The Hollies Hotel

Positive experience: I had a really pleasant stay here for work. Situated just off the A303, there are nice spacious rooms in a quiet location. Good food and very helpful staff..thankyou.

Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our stay here for two nights. The staff are fantastically friendly, rooms are very clean, spacious, with a nice little terrace table and chairs accessed throufg full width patio doors, making the room light and airy. Comfy sofa. Food in the restaurant is a good standard, with generous portions. Breakfast is very good. My mum who uses a wheeler was able to access her ground floor room easily straight up a ramp from the car park, although this is gravel to get across to the restaurant, which is a little tricky. She didn't have a disabled room as such, and some elements were a little hard for her - plug heights, no walk in shower - but the room was not offered as disabled access, and she enjoyed her stay. I have stayed in a lot of smart hotels over the years, and would absolutely come here again, and recommend to others.

Negative experience: Hugely overpriced. I was expecting a lot more for £310 per night at the 2 bedroom apartment. The bedrooms are extremely tired and more akin to what I've stayed in during a £50 per night stag weekend hotel in Blackpool. Carpets are old, dormer blinds don't work (kids were awake from 0500 due to daylight streaming in), TVs are fixed flat to the wall (perpendicularto the bed), meaning you can't watch them from bed!! And the chest of drawers is in the wardrobe meaning not only can you not get to it but also that there is insufficient space for clothes to hang freely. The downstairs apartment area was modern and good. Breakfast is good. Dinner is average to good. Billing is disappointing : I ended up with other guests food and 3 rounds of drinks on my bill, when we didn't put any drinks on our room, but I ended up paying to ease the stress of chasing down other wedding guests. Bar staff need to be a lot sharper on checking rooms for drinks!! All in all: disappointing and not recommended for an enjoyable weekend away, and certainly not at the prices advertised

Positive experience: We stayed at the hollies .. we found the staff were amazing .. the food in the restaurant was really good .. we had arranged to stay in a junior suite which we could not stay in due to the bath .. it had been re-enamelled which is now falling off and the bath was very very dirty .. we were offered another 5 different rooms all with revolting baths enamel all peeling off .. all very outdated styling ( 1980’s) Finally we settled on a cheaper more modern room which was nice … The lady from reception did everything and more to find us a room without a disgusting bathroom which she did bless her

Positive experience: We went to the Hollies for an evening meal. The atmosphere was good and the food was very tasty. The initial welcome was warm and inviting. The initial drinks service was good. However, the service during the meal did not live up to expectations. It was a quiet Saturday evening, yet some of us were left waiting for a significant time for our courses to arrive. As the rest of us were waiting so we could start together, our food cooled down. This happened at each course. We noticed other tables being served in between our food being served. The food was lovely; however, we were disappointed with the food service.

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel - stayed for a work visit, just one night but notably friendly staff compared to other hotels I have stayed at. Just had an electric car charge point installed which is a fantastic utility for those staying with electric cars.

Fantastic experience: I can only comment on the restaurant as we didn't stay in the hotel as we are local, however, the food is outstanding and the staff are incredibly friendly! An absolute gem that deserves to be busier than it was tonight. Thanks all for a fantastic meal.

Fantastic experience: I have to work in Somerset and Dorset occasionally and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else, I love this hotel! The rooms are great, with some having a separate living space to where the bed is which is great for a week away from home. The mini fridge is packed full of different drinks and some chocolate. The beds are massive and very comfy. My only two complaints about the rooms are that the showers and televisions are quite old now and could do with replacing in my opinion. The hotel restaurant and bar are exquisite, the service is excellent and the menu is huge.

Fantastic experience: Clean and well looked after. Everything you could need including iron, ironing board and vacuum. Food fresh and very well cooked. Took note and followed cooking instructions such as toasting time. Staff beautifully mannered and well turned out and listened to what you said. Gave great ideas of things to do. Great position geographically to sea and hills and everything in between.

Positive experience: Stayed for 1 night with work. Easy to find and ample parking (including electric car chargers). The room was spacious and comfy, with a large bathroom. Having air con would’ve improved my stay but there was a fan and so it did the job. Good choice of breakfast. Would stay again.

Fantastic experience: The hotel has a nice venue with parking. Check in was very quick and easy. We had the luxury suite & 2 bed apartment. Both were very spacious and clean. It looks like they have been renovated over time with modern decor but there are still some pieces which are outdated. The gardens are well kept and if you are in a suite or apartment you get access to the patio area which is really nice. Breakfast food is very nice & staff were prompt with taking orders and delivering food. Very friendly and made us feel welcome. I would use this hotel again, no issues at all.

Fantastic experience: First time staying here. Stayed two nights, very good service, friendly staff and good food at reasonable prices. Ample space in the car park.

Positive experience: The place is beautiful, with a lake and a windmil. It is not very big, which makes you feel that your requests count. The personnel is very nice and try to accommodate your requests. I only had a minor issue with the breakfast, mainly because we were the only guest that night (I think) and the chef was not there in the morning; everything else was at the best they could offer.

Positive experience: I’ve tried to go to this place. It isn’t dog friendly so can’t comment on the hotel or bar or food. Observation: I’ve tried to visit and for the first few times I walked in to the bar area to ask if dog friendly and there was not one person around, no staff anywhere. Only on the fifth time (yep, fifth) did I find a member of staff.

Fantastic experience: What a beautiful hotel. From the very first minute we were made to feel so welcome by the wonderful staff. The garden room was lovely and the restaurant bar really olde world. I would recommend this hotel most highly. We will be going back.

Fantastic experience: We had an evening meal here, a large group. We were all impressed with the quality of the food and service. The staff were friendly and helpful as well as good humoured. Toilets were clean and well kept, plenty of parking and well laid out. A few steps here and there so not brilliant for wheelchair users but the staff help will make up for the awkwardness. We will go again.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant, my parents came down to visit us and found the Hollies had some short notice availability. They stayed in one of the suites, and they were really happy with it, when they arrived here after checking in they brimmed with positivity about the place. We popped by the next day and sure enough the suite they had was wonderful, really clean and smartly decorated without being clinical or unwelcoming, for perhaps the first time in decades they had good night's sleep, normally my dad struggles to sleep for more than a few hours and usually complains of a bad back each morning but none of that this weekend so I can only assume the beds were remarkably comfortable and supportive, I think he'd do well to call up and find out what they're using so he can have one at home, in fact I think I will actually suggest he does just that. The staff are nothing short of amazing, they really give you the sense that you are the centre of the universe. We called in for dinner as a family and the setting was lovely, again, waited on with professionalism, courteousness and a friendly bit of chat. When our meals arrived they were utterly delicious and received top marks from everyone, including my young daughter who took on an adults portion of Cumberland sausage ring, mash, gravy and a giant Yorkshire pudding, she did her very very best to finish it as she thought it was superb, but at the risk of exploding she had to give in with only a few bits of sausage surviving. Usually we don't fuss about a pudding but we all found something that took our fancy so we decided to have it, at this point in the reviews you should be unsurprised to hear it, but it was again, spot on, my father had the apple pie, which delayed the rest of us a little, why? Because it is freshly made, and was being cooked right then! We all did a bit of sharing, the apple pie was delicious, and I don't actually like apple pie, so it gets my thumbs up, my little lad had the sticky toffee pudding, which defeated him before he could finish it, my mum had the 3 scoops of ice cream, which she didn't share, so I can only assume it was too good to share, my wife had the lemon meringue cheesecake, which I got the most pitiful sharing of, the 5 atoms I was allowed tasted good though, and me and my daughter had the salted caramel chocolate brownie. I'm rarely toppled by a dessert, I usually claim I have two stomachs, one for food and one for cake and ice cream, both were full and I felt with the richness and density of the brownie (which tasted amazing) my stomach may have taken on the gravitational pull of a small planet, it was at this point my daughter called it quits, needing a few minutes breathe of the cool evening air outside after tackling half of her brownie. I'm looking forward to enjoying another meal here in the future, I'll tackle a different dessert next time, in all honesty, the brownies have left me scared, they're delicious but I don't feel confident enough anymore to deal with one by myself, I suggest sharing one. Whoever makes them may be a culinary evil genius. Thanks to Jenny and Claire who served us and to the chefs working in the kitchen on our fantastic meal 10/10.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here in a half suit room. Very clean and with lots of room. The view was lovely looking out across the fields. Evening meal was gorgeous fillet steak I would definitely recommend. Staff very polite and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic experience: The cottage 3 was clean and comfortable; equipment and facilities are top of the line; daily cleaners were prompt and polite; restaurant and gym superb, Tom/Richard(owners) and staff esp Jenny were all great people, always find ways to help us during our 4 months of stay. Definitely a great place to stay at near Yeovil.

Negative experience: We stayed in a family suit with a 2 year old the knife and fork draw was very low and they didn't have child locks on them there were all of the sharp knifes in there my daughter grabbed one out they hadn't even been took out! The glass over the coffee table which moved very easily and nearly slid off when my older daughter put her hand on it they also left a feedback form in there from the guests before us so obviously wasn't cleaned very well we complained and all the manager said was he hadn't heard of child locks on drawers before!! Terrible management

Fantastic experience: The Hollies provides a very welcoming atmosphere, The quality amd finish of the Cottages is outstanding and the rooms inside the hotel complex are very nice too. The staff here are genuinely nice, friendly, profesional and their personal touches like knowing your name make your stay all the more enjoyable. The Hollies is surrounded by beautiful countryside with beautiful walks 1 min away . Where else can you find fine dining, amazing staff and a short stroll into an old in use orchard to watch the sun set. Beautiful place will stay here again

Restaurant and service runs efficiently and all care is taken during times of social distancing. Comfortable rooms. And the Hollies is set in a very picturesque area. Genuine relaxed and atmosphere makes you want to go back again and again. Can enjoy for a weekend, a journey stop or longer.

Positive experience: The first thing to say is that the service was Superb, genuinely superb. Attentive, thoughtful, the best. The rooms were large and we had a super suite. Breakfast (full English) was tasty and filling. One quibble: we didn't really have enough towels for two people. We could've asked and I'm sure that they would've brought them, but we didn't have time.
