Schools of Kung Fu - Sutton

Fantastic experience: I've been intending this school for a number of years now. Initially watching my son as he attended classes after school, but after my partner joined, I thought there was really no good reason why I shouldn't also become a member. I have dabbled in the past in a number of different martial arts, including taekwondo, kickboxing and a few karate lessons, however, I never found the clubs very welcoming, and they were always pretty male dominated. Since becoming a student at the Sutton school under the instruction of Sifu Keith and his brilliant team of instructors, I can honestly say that this is one of the only martial arts schools where I have felt compleatly welcomed and comfortable. As a forty something year old woman with hyper mobility and questionable coordination, I have often found it really difficult to be able to maintain any form of physical exercise without getting an injury or feeling defeated, however, when training at this school, I've been able to train for a number of years without getting any injuries, which for me is a miracle and my coordination and reflexes have greatly improved. The curriculum is extremely in depth, and multi layered (internal and external) which for me is brilliant because there will always be something new to learn. I have always found the instructors and our Sifu very approachable, and extremely positive in their approach to all of their students learning. I continue to train twice a week on their leadership programme and am currently working towards achieving my black belt. Another totally unexpected benefit of becoming a student at the school is the number of people I have met within the student base that have now become friends. If you are considering taking up a martial art, want to meet friendly students and learn in a welcoming environment, I can highly recommend this school. They also offer a 30 day free trial so there is literally nothing to loose!

They grade them fairly and accurately, they really take the time to invest in their training. They offer private lessons which are valuable. Fantastic experience: This school has the best instructors, always seeking to help all students to the best of their ability. The atmosphere created by Sifu Kieth Monk is absolutely brilliant. He's always happy to assist you towards being your greater self and makes me enjoy, without fail, every class I go to. My most cherished memories come from this place and the people I'm so fortunate to know. Everybody has a mindset to help one another and and are all determined to strive towards their own goals as this not only improves self defence, but also confidence and physical and mental well-being. I say this from my own personal experience and experiences of others which I have had the fortune to hear from. This is the greatest opportunity for those wanting to learn self defence, building their well-being or even just to have fun and to meet new people. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Really amazing place to hone your focus and to relieve the stresses of day to day life. Signed up last week and have attended 6 sessions so far, leaving the venue feeling better about myself than when I entered. Sifu's and staff have amazing patience when it comes to helping with techniques and stances. Glad I signed up. Would and have recommended the school to friends :)

Fantastic experience: My wife joined my two eldest children to the School of Kung Fu, then Kung fun schools, over 3 years now, as we wanted to give them confidence, discipline, respect and learn self-defence. We have joined the entire family (myself and my 3rd child) as they had a family bundle which also gave us an opportunity to join and learn new skills. My sons were very nervous as 4-year-olds are with anything new. The instructors took them under their wings, they were helpful and patient with them. They are now black belts and still enjoying their time at the school learning to use weapons and everyday self-defence skills to keep them safe. My daughter and I are doing the adult sessions and have come through their beginner pathway. They have different warms ups at the start of the sessions and have learnt to use different weapons and how to defend ourselves against them. They also have a great reward scheme for the kids, like, well done card (things done at home) and badges for schoolwork, which the boys take to school on their show and tell days. The boys love the end of year Christmas parties as they are full of fun, games, and disco. They organised a recent trip to China with other School of Kung Fu students, organisers, and Instructors, which the family enjoyed. All our itinerary, stay was planned and organised, which took to us to see some of the beautiful sight China has to offer, The Great Wall, Beijing Zoo, Tiananmen Square, Summer place to name a few. Fantastic experience: My 2 children aged 5 and 9 both attend classes here for the past 4 months and they absolutely love it. I feel the staff are both professional and very friendly, they are equally patient and fun, my 2 children always look forward to coming to Kung Fu each week. I would highly recommend this school to anyone.

Negative experience: NO AUDACITY TO CONTACT THE CUSTOMER. I am doing my best to avoid people joining them!!! And will continue till I dont get my refund back. War against these money sharks During the first lockdown, your institute were unable to conduct classes. When they reopened, your staff said that no compensation classes will be provided. On requesting refund for the unused amount, they refused and the staff said that such amount goes toward benefiting the company operation. We are not exchequer to distribute the money. Please refund my hard earned money. Thanks

Fantastic experience: We started my daughter in classes at the School in order to build some confidence and self esteem. At first she was hesitant to go but the energy of the instructors and the encouragement really helped her enjoy it to the point that she wanted to book a private lesson in half term. The junior beginners classes are only 30 mins and yes class sizes are big, but they are also fun and it is not too heavy when someone is starting their journey. If you take to it then later grades involve longer lessons. At the same time as teaching Kung Fu the instructors also aim to give encouragement for outside achievements as well and encourage students to do well in all aspects of their life. As an adult student who joined after a long break from martial arts, I was impressed by the teaching. The are various types of martial art, Kung Fu and indeed Wing Chun Kung Fu. Part of the teaching includes focusing on your internal energy, something which I hadn't learnt before but proved to be very effective. We are moving areas so unable to continue, but I will be hard pushed to find this teaching elsewhere. The only thing I was not so keen on was the cost of grading. For and adult it was nearly the cost of a months tuition for an assessment in a lesson you were already paying for. I would have paid it if I was continuing but it did seem a lot.

Fantastic experience: My children joined in April 2018 and then myself and my husband joined in March this year. My kids absolutely love the place, learning new skills and the fab instructors. My youngest had his birthday party there in December and the kids didnt stop talking about it for weeks. I also managed to get the day completely wrong and they bent over backwards to sort the whole thing out! I look forward to my adult classes and the environment is both fun and informative, a great balance. Sifu Keith, Reena and their team are all excellent instructors. I would highly recommend anyone give it a go.

Fantastic experience: I've been attending classes for nearly 2 years now; my fitness, flexibility, and balance have all improved by orders of magnitude. Classes are both fun and rewarding, the staff are amazing, and it soon feels like you're part of a Kung Fu family. I'd highly recommend it for anyone, irrespective of age or fitness level.

Fantastic experience: My family and I have been learning under Sifu Keith for nearly 7 years and it has been a big part of my life. It has improved my confidence, self worth and self control vastly and has had a massive part in shaping who I have become today. It really is a big family and is one of the most welcoming enviroments I have ever been a part of. Becoming an instructor is possibly the best decision I have ever made!

Fantastic experience: Bobby is a child with special needs he has ADHD. He stated Kung fu some 3 years ago. He is now a black belt plus 2 Kung fu has helped in many ways, self confidence, confidence and team work. The instructors are very helpful and patient with him and have guided and helped him through many things, especially after his mother passed away. I would recommend this for any child in there development.

Positive experience: I joined my daughter up to the kung fu school as i hoped it would be a way of giving her more confidence. She enjoyed it for a while but doesn't really want to go anymore. The problem is the classes are far to big and there are a lot of children who are very disruptive. Im yet to see a child challenged for acting up even though kung fu is very much about discipline and respect. The classes tend to have between 20 and 30 children with 4 teachers. All children learn the same tecnic regardless of their grade, the lesson is 30 minutes in which the children complete the student creed and 1 technic. The teachers are great, its just let down by a few things. If they could reduce the size of the classes and have lessons for individual grades as opposed to mixed grades it would be so much better. Challenge the distruptive kids (the simple back off call seems to be a competition for who can pro-long it the longest). I know they are just kids but its about learning respect and discipline and by allowing them to act up they learn very little. If you wanna take your children do take advantage of the free trial but dont be suckered in by the free uniform if you sign up straight away. If you decide to cancel you have to give a full months notice end to end so you cant cancel half way through the month regardless of when you start. There is also a £20 fee for grading although im not sure this is officially recognised grading and is simply a new belt. I may be wrong however. All in all after a good few month it wasn't for my daughter. Perhaps others have had better experiences but for us it was just another club.
