Daresbury Park Hotel and Spa: Opinions

2.4/5 (200 Opinions)

Negative experience: Went to an amazing wedding here years ago but is now being used as immigrant accommodation .

P McG 1 year ago

Negative experience: Don't go it's a refugee center, it's closed but Google doesn't seem to know.

Simon Davies 3 years ago

Negative experience: Arranged a quick meet up / coffee with a colleague. Checked Google listing beforehand, which gave the impression the hotel was open as normal. Arrived to an empty, barricaded car park, security guard posted to a locked front door. Bloke on reception said the place is closed. It only takes a minute to update a Google listing.

Ryan Petch 4 years ago

Negative experience: Had a room booked for 8 months and the hotel have cancelled our booking last minute to accomodate for a group booking. Awful service and pure greed. I hope the hotel takes pride in running their business with no integrity.

Matt Grew 4 years ago

Negative experience: Very run down and tired. Rooms are out of the 90s and haven't been brought up to date and those that they've attempted too are more like dorm rooms in a hostel. Very dissapointing, would rather stay at the Holiday Inn Runcorn and drive an extra 8 minutes

Jules G 5 years ago

Negative experience: A thoroughly distasteful company. I did not enjoy my visit to this hotel. Its ethnic tones were extremely off-putting. I would not accept a stay at this hotel for free.,

Barbara Reedman 5 years ago

Positive experience: Staff friendly but rooms are looking jaded, needs a bit of TLC. Overall not a bad place to stay, breakfast is well worth having, plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Great for getting back on the motorway, a short drive to great shopping areas and local pubs

Negative experience: Reviews of this chain of hotels are all over the internet and Daresbury Park is no exception. Bedding was clean. The fact that I am thankful for that tells it all. There's not a great choice for Hotels in this area but I couldn't recommend this Hotel.

Lucie Draper 5 years ago

Negative experience: Horrendous, couldn't stay there for more than 10mins! The changing rooms were really dirty, the jacuzzi had floating bits in it and was just overall awful. They messed up the dates for the treatments which just made everything even worse as we would have had to go back to this dirty place again. Wouldn't recommend. Cheap through Groupon but isn't worth it at all!

Emily Rawlins 5 years ago

Negative experience: Although the bed was comfortable there was no WiFi in the room, dated decor and upkeep of the hotel was tired. The restaurant had a poor range of food. I stayed for one night on business and am unlikely to choose to do so again.

Jodie Brasher 5 years ago

Positive experience: The food here is amazing! Lovely house red wine and i highly recommend the brie for starter. Rooms are very outdated unfortunately but clean and comfy. Staff are okay but not very chatty.

John Treanor 5 years ago

Positive experience: It only gets 3 stars cos its cheap. Once a flag ship, this place is now tired. But good value, search or contact directly, if you're staying any amount worth talking about, you can strike a deal including breakfast. I've stayed here loads, I've never been in a room without peeling wallpaper, a bit of mould or worse, but it is cheap.

Kevs T 5 years ago

Positive experience: The rooms are dated. It was a cold night and although the heating was on the radiators are blocked in by panels and are pretty useless. Also the window was difficult to close as the handle was bent. It's a large hotel and some more signs are needed to get around for the people who are there for the first time. Buffet breakfast was good and bar itself had been modernised. Only 20 minutes free wifi but I had plenty of 4g spare.

G Mac 5 years ago

Positive experience: Nice staff. Rooms are very much in need of an update, some tlc and a good clean. Gym and pool facilities are good but again issues around housekeeping. Some of the gym equipment is a little tired

Positive experience: This place is in a good location with comfortable bed. Room are very spacious and cleanliness is of high standard. The foods is delicious you will love it. Though I felt bad when we missed breakfast with 5 seconds. I was expecting to get at least something even though is not full breakfast but the staff were not bothered. The breakfast restaurant is far from the rooms not convenient at all. Another thing I did not like is where to plug the kettle...they need a good electrician to rectify the socket as it is not a straight forward way to plug the kettle...if you are not intelligent enough you may not be able to use the kettle....again we were told that in case we need anything we should call the reception mind you there was no phone in the room regardless of been told to ring the reception. Overall I will give 4 stars

Fantastic experience: Lovely Hotel me and my late wife stayed here in 2013 and she lost her lighter.. Went back with my Grandparents over six years later and I found her lighter it was trapped under a chair in the reception area inside chair so lucky no fire was caused... Very friendly staff nice bar great food good gym and little Swimming pool...

Positive experience: I bought a Groupon voucher which got you access to the hotel spa and afternoon tea. I read a lot of reviews which weren't very good for the spa but good for the afternoon tea. We arrived for the meal and was pleasantly surprised, it was lovely and the staff were friendly but thought it would be in the restaurant It was just in a little seating cafe area with cleaners walking right past you with bundles of used bedding which wasn't pleasant whilst eating. Overall the food was lovely but the hotel needs a major modernisation.

Fantastic experience: It was my daughter's 13th birthday x all the staff ( Emma restaurant, George reception and dan ) all went above & beyond to make it a stay for her to remember!!!! X

Positive experience: Been here twice and liked it better the second time Enjoyed the food and the beds are comfortable. Has a gym and a pool if you like to use them. Just situated off a motorway. Access by car or tour bus.

Fantastic experience: The Girlfriend and I decided for to have a short break after a hectic December for me, I chose for us to stay here at Daresbury Park as I have stayed here before through work, it was amazing then and nothing has changed, no in fact it's even better now! Our room, clean modern and very spacious. The food, oh my days the food is phenomenal they even catered for my GF who is GF ( celiac)!!! The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble! The only down sound to this place is no sauna! Oh and the bed is two single pushed together no issue to me really but I had to put it as the missus is nagging lol Would I stay here again? WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT!!!! Thanks daresbury park xxx

Positive experience: Outside and reception lovely, but inside could do with a bit of updating as Definitely not a 4/5 star. Also seems a long walk to the bar and Restaurant.

Positive experience: We stayed in double room 4/1/2020 Been several times to daresbury park hotel. Don’t be put off with reviews. Rooms and hotel may be a little dated but every time we’ve been the staff are always helpful. Rooms clean. Everything you need. Tea/coffee facilities in room. Nice big bed. Tv etc. Didn’t get chance this time to use leisure facilities but it’s just what you need, pool, steam room, jacuzzi. Food was good and drinks in bar are reasonably priced for a hotel. Disco with DJ . Great value for money. £59 for 2 people with breakfast and leisure facilities on a Saturday. Will be back again. Cheers

Amina Uddin 5 years ago

Positive experience: Nice hotel with good facilities. Was very quiet when we went and had the whole gym to ourselves. Rooms are decent sized, clean and staff are nice

Andy Jackson 5 years ago

Negative experience: Since it was taken over from De avere it appears to have no money invested into it. Very tired and in dire need of a refurbishment. There is nothing luxurious about the spa area. It wouldn't take much to make it respectable again.

Julia O 5 years ago

Positive experience: Great Christmas Break organised by coach holidays Just-go Rep really professional and helpful , she organised transport to a beautiful country church, for Midnight mass. Food delicious and plenty of it with lots of choice. All the staff are really helpful friendly and hard working. Great value for money. Any negative reviews are people expecting to much for what they had paid for.

Michael Price 5 years ago

Negative experience: Met up for a coffee with my cousin in November. 2 weeks later we both get parking eye fines for £100.. thanks lord dewsbury most expensive coffee ever..

Karen Pickering 5 years ago

Positive experience: The afternoon tea was lovely but the decor needs a lot of TLC the chairs had no cushioning on them and some were becoming threadbare, there was rips in the wallpaper here and there and some parts of the flooring were trip hazards we tripped a few times which is not good. The location of the cafe was right next to reception and everytime somebody entered there was a huge draught

Kev H MW1FJK 5 years ago

Negative experience: Macerator in every bathroom that keep you awake all night. Typical Brittania hotel, dated and needs money spending on it to bring it to 20th century standards let alone 21st.

michael harrison 5 years ago

Negative experience: In desperate need of refurbishment. Moved rooms 3 times and still ended up in a suite with no heating, toilet that wouldn't flush, no housekeeping on 2nd day. The place is a disaster!! Had we not been on a package to see Michael Buble we would have checked out on the day of arrival.

Susan Webster 5 years ago

Negative experience: Supposed Executive room minor faults......but too many of them including horrible drains smell in bathroom. The place is quite tired in decoration. Broken things not repaired/ replaced. Only a very limited carvery of offer, no menu. Choice of just 2 meats, everything just luke warm and we were first in! No hot water in hotel rooms over night a note under each door would have been helpful not just a notice on recption which we only discovered when we went to complain. Manager only spoke when I said good morning, after making eye contact. Breakfast plentiful, but all luke warm again. Pool and spa and changing rooms nice, but tired and dated.

Mo Davies 5 years ago

Positive experience: Had a lovely visit to Daresbury Park for afternoon tea, including spa access, with my wife. Arrived in good time for our booking time and enjoy a nice relax in the spa facilities. The pool area feels a little bit leisure centre like than a solely spa experience, but the pool was good. The sauna and steam rooms were well equipped and maintained. Changing areas were all nice and clean with lockers available. The food was good, although the vegetarian selection for the afternoon tea was a little bland in terms of the sandwiches offered, it wouldn't hurt to branch out into some richer flavours than just egg mayo and cheese (falafel maybe?). The only downside to our experience really was the receipt of a parking ticket a few days later. It wasn't clear when entering into the spa area that parking needed to be validated and no-one on reception checked that despite us having to nip back to the car to get a forgotten towel. Despite this the staff at the hotel were happy to contact the parking company and rescind the ticket. Admittedly there were apparently signs to this effect but we didn't notice them on the route from car to door. That said its often how things are fixed that leaves and impression not what has gone wrong, and in that regard I cannot fault the staff.

Negative experience: The infrastructure of this hotel is even lower than 2 star, although the location is in the centre of a park, which is totally a waste. Premier Inn or Ibis are even better than this rubbish. I tried a lot of hotels and this is the worst one I've ever been to, never and ever again.

Tassolhof1234 6 years ago

Negative experience: If your in a hurry, this is not the place to go. 12 tables open, and 45 minutes for tomato soup and warm bread. Average waiting time for a 3 course meal over 3 days is 2 hours. Basic food, all microwaved. Save your time and eat elsewhere.

Deborah Whitlock 6 years ago

Positive experience: In definite need of redecorating. Very poor rooms. Dusty, mouldy, windows won't close, leak, only plus is bedding was clean. Food only mediocre. Wouldn't book to go back. Only stayed due to a national holiday tour.

reg westwood 6 years ago

Negative experience: Where do I start ,this hotel is in a perfect place for a relaxing stay ,but that's the good side in reality what you get is rooms that have taps that will not turn off ,at even the plumber could turn it off. We were moved to another room . We then discovered when dark we had on two small lights that worked ,and the armchair had a broken leg . All these items were reported to reception ,none were repaired . Let me add ,we did not chose this hotel but part of a package .

Sheel Gupta 6 years ago

Negative experience: We paid for Luxury Executive room and was so disappointed at the appalling state of the bathrooms, rooms, service, cleanliness. It is dump, a rip off. Please avoid it any cost. The pictures on the internet and website are nowhere near the real thing.

Cliff Beasley 6 years ago

Negative experience: Room 113, walls have mould growing up above your head, bathroom has mould and taps leak everywhere. I found false nail under bed, make up removal pad-used in bathroom, cobwebs everywhere and presumably the last guest was female her phone charger, also found another charger presumably from the guest before that, the place is disgusting, unclean and completely out dated, how they had the nerve to charge £124 is beyond me for one night it should be more like £24 I think Trading Standards need to look at there advertising compared to the actual dire room that you get. On the plus side the staff are very good and its ideal for Creamfields, the blonde girl on reception is very good considering what she has to put up with at this place

Amelia Stott 6 years ago

Negative experience: This is not a 4* hotel or even close. Very dated interiors, spider webs in rooms, damp carpet outside bathroom with growing water stain. Room wasn't made up, we were left a bag of amenities outside the door to DIY housekeeping. Reception Direct Dial is wrong on the phone. Had to go to Reception multiple times to get our room sorted late at night when we just wanted to shower and go to bed. I am literally still waiting as I write this review.

Hugo Dawson (Webhandler) 6 years ago

Negative experience: Rough and ready, the room directions were not sufficient and took 2 trips to find a room with no cups, so 3 trips to reception to get settled. TV doesn't work, lamps electric 'hums'. Parking is odd and unfriendly - you must immediately log car details or else! (potential £100 fine) and hard to work out where you can and cannot park. Also, the un-nerving bathroom sign which I have never seen anywhere before. Baths cause fires?

Roy Chiang 6 years ago

Negative experience: HORRIBLE hotel!! It was a horrible experience to stay in this hotel, the customer service is the WORST I have ever seen in my life. I forgot to bring my belongings after checking out, and I called the reception so many times, but no one helped me to find out. Therefore I had to go there directly 3 times to ask the staffs, however every time every staff told me to go back and wait for further contact. Eventually I received no phone calls from any of the staff who promised me, they never tried to help you, they don't care how important when you lost your belongings. The staffs'attitude is awful, I wonder how is this hotel still operating with such horrible service. Not to mention the room was also dirty and smelled extremely bad. Hope more people can see this comment, and remember to bring all the belongings with you when you checkout otherwise you will never see them again!! HORRIBLE!!!

Negative experience: Don't turn up anytime after 10pm as they will turn you away I booked with booking. Com and they were still selling rooms even though they were fully booked first come first serve

Angela Hobson 6 years ago

Negative experience: The room we stayed in had wallpaper coming off, holes in walls, nets about 2 inches too short, windows & sills filthy, curtains & helmets hung in dust and dirt so much so that when you closed them you got a cloud of dust on your head! My friends room wasn't even cleaned when she booked in still had dirty sheets, towels and full bins from the previous occupiers. As for the food, my goodness beef so rare blood still running out of it, chicken so pale I was scared it was going to fly off the plate, fishcakes were stone cold, pasta bake was tasteless and lukewarm and the Goats cheese and onion filo pastry tart well the pastry was so tough you couldn't even cut through it, it was like cardboard! Desert we had chocolate gateau, so obviously shop bought, you could tell by the taste and when I got to the middle of my slice it was still frozen!! All this through Just Go Holidays and they think this hotel is more than acceptable as they don't have any customer's apart from ME that complain apparently. I beg to differ, if ANYONE on here has gone with JUST GO HOLIDAYS and has a problem with this hotel I beg you please launch an official complaint also with the holiday company like I have don't just leave a bad review on here because it doesn't count as far as Just Go are concerned!!

Negative experience: Be careful using this place. They use Parking Eye to police their car park. I was a gym member here for several months, which meant having to input your registration at the front desk. Between changing vehicles I accidentally typed in my old registration number. I recieved a £60 fine for this, I appealed it twice with Parking Eye, the second time I even cited that my wife made the same mistake a week earlier and had her fine overturned. Parking Eye decided they had broken no laws and that I should pay. I also wrote to Britannia Hotels about this. They never replied. Very poor customer service.

Negative experience: Booked, double room for one night in room 310. Check in pleasant enough. Charged my card additional for extra charges as I wanted room service. Going to room the hotel seems tired, bo exhausted, with ceiling stains; paper hanging off the wall and a door frame that moves when door closed. Room is fairly spacious but dusty, 2x ironing equipment. The room doesn't have air conditioning like the hallway but a desk fan circulating warm musty air. There are no spare sockets: so choose no TV or fan. The bathroom floor comes with a stain that initially looked like a large amount of dried up blood, see image. Bathroom doesn't have a mat to step out onto and for a double room only 1 large and a face towel was in the bathroom. Ordered room service, and was told there's a £3 charge for room service and although my credit card was charged I'll have to pay for any drinks separately. In the dining area, staff are pleasant but the food was disappointing: I can only apologise to the chicken that died only to be served so poorly in a caesar salad! The only nice thing is the garden when you have to go down 3 floors to reception, through a walkway to go back up 2 floors for food. However that is spoilt by Renaissance period naked women statues. For the next 12 weeks I'll be spending at least 1 night in the area, but I can say with a level of confidence, before staying the night, that I'll not be staying here again. I'll try another similarly priced local hotel or do the 3 hour plus round trip home.

Mark Ohare 6 years ago

Positive experience: Had a groupon afternoon tea and spa day which was very nice staff helpful however going from spa for tea was disappointed with the decor had to walk down a corridor with rooms which had damp stains and mold, on the suspended ceiling tiles, which stood out like a sore thumb couldn't believe the hotel would leave it like that but the dried stains told the story

shahnawaz hussain 6 years ago

Negative experience: Worst hotel! I stay in a hotel at least once a week due to work. On arrival I quickly learned the electric in the bathroom don't work such as the lights. Tried calling reception and phone don't work. Forced to walk back to reception to complain. Advised will be offered a upgraded room for the inconvenience, instead received a room which was the same as my original room. Fine, accepted. In this room heat don't work. Informed reception and I'm told they are on a timer and will come on in 15mins. I leave for tea return 1hr later still no heating. Reporting g again, advised will be looked at. 30mins later no heating and room is very cold. Visited reception and reported issue 4 times and at 11pm finally a manager came to check. Manager confirmed heating is fault apologised and left the room. External heater not offered or was a another room offered. Slept in a room which was cold. When I complained to head office I was told I'll receive response within 14 days. It took 5 emails, 9 calls to head office, hotel and 32 days for a reply. And after all that I was offered a free upgrade for my next stay. What makes you think I'll ever come back???

Lesley Greasley 6 years ago

Negative experience: The room was dirty, hadn’t been cleaned in weeks as there was a thick layer of dust. The windows hadn't been cleaned in years. Smelled awful. We had a twin room but only one cup to make a drink. The phone for room service didn’t work. The dirty fan which was provided had a build up of dirt inside and didn’t blow any air out. Mould build up on the bathroom tiles . We paid £90 for this room for one night - no breakfast. Outrageous. Hotel inspectors definitely need to visit this place.

Vivek Bhagi 6 years ago

Negative experience: We were 4 members of a family, booked a suite. Main bedroom was good but sofa cum bed wasnt big enough to accommodate me and my son. It was so worn that we could feel springs. The reception arranged a duvet to put on it but it was useless. I wish i had put those duvet on floor, came home with sore Back. It had a room service menu but no phone in the room. 1 hand soap, 1 hand towel, 1 bath towel for Four occupants!! Gel dispenser in the bathroom was broken, and no phone in the room so we could request these basic amenities. No air con. Went down to request for a desktop fan. However, Staff were good, friendly and helpful.

Debra Roberts 6 years ago

Positive experience: This didn't get the best reviews but there was limited choice due to 2 big events in Liverpool. We weren't expecting too much but were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and bright with adequate space ( I've been in smaller!) We had a bath as well which I personally like and tea and coffee making facilities in the room too. The bed was a little hard but I slept really well, I can imagine it could be a little noisy as the corridors are narrow and the doors opposite one another, there was a little noise but nothing too extensive. Great location just off the motorway and for the price unbeatable

Mark Hillen 6 years ago

Negative experience: Its clear that 20 years ago, this was a tiptop hotel. The entrance and the grounds are lovely. The rooms are big. But everything is old and worn. It's clear less than the minimum investment has been made to keep the hotel from going backwards. Brittania hotelnl group strikes again. The mattresses certainly are old - they were really uncomfortable. They looked old under the sheets. Our room had a smashed power socket. Apparently there's an unmarked master power switch in the room too? No air conditioning; windows that open 3 inches and a small plastic fan didn't quite suffice in this recent hot spell. I didn't explore the spa. You can forgive some of this as the price is low and it's easy to get to by car from the M56. But. I stay in NW hotels about 20 times a year and I've been trying them all out. I doubt I'll book here again.

Sharon Adamson 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Stayed here on a national coach holiday. Service excellent, staff really freindly and helpful. Room nice and clean, shower very good. The food was really tasty and plenty of choice, would definitely return and recommend this hotel.

David Valentine 6 years ago

Positive experience: This hotel is ok but not more than 3 stars. Rooms are dated an in much need of upgrading.the shower thermostat didnot work an scolded my skin .no shower gel or soap .only two towels a small an a medium .tea n coffe in room are more akin to a cheap b&b .sadly all brittania adelphi hotels are the same

Ned I Ellerton 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: I was having car trouble on the M56 so pulled off the motorway and the first safe place i came across was these guys' car park so pulled in to see if I could sort out the problem. I did, and left to continue my journey. But I didnt realise that the car park is under the regime of the all seeing parking eye.... got a £100 fine so far. So I've given it 5 fabulous stars in the hope that they have mercy on my wicked soul and let me off... I was only broken down.... pleeeeeaase....... time is running out.. they may whip meee... :Amendment - it's 12 months since the parking eye tried to fine me for being broken down.. they still haven't got a little mucky penny out of me and never will they. They will threaten with legal action and remind you of the court case they won 4 years ago.. do not fear... it's all just a con. Daresbury park hotel and spa is fabulous though.. ️

Stephanie Swan 6 years ago

Negative experience: I've stayed at this hotel many times and it does have many faults but it is cheap and I guess was prepared to put up with the faults because of the price. However, when I stayed last Saturday night I had the worst night that I can recall in any hotel, in any country. Yes the wallpaper and paint are peeling off, furniture is broken, phones in the rooms rarely work, trays and items of food and drink are left outside rooms on the floor for hours on end, towels are tiny and only one was left in the room on this visit, the TVs in the room have shrunk to about 15 inches oh and ours had the message 'Welcome to Premier Inn' when we managed to actually turn it on after plugging it in and finding the aerial. Premier Inn should demand they remove this as it is damaging their good name but I am used to an awful lot of negative however, I am not used to the bar area being so full with very drunk and out of control people that it became actually uncomfortable to remain there and then when returning to the room, feeling like I'd entered a war zone. Gangs of children were running up and down the corridor almost all night, they let the fire extinguisher off and though staff came little changed and when the adults returned from the bar drunk, they then joined in with terrorising the whole floor, knocking on our door many times and even trying to get in, I believe mistaking it for their room or one of their friends. One even phoned us in our room and I can only assume they got the number from the staff who for once actually answered the phone, only to give a number of another room when they could have just checked who was in that room. It was horrific but I have learned my lesson, it looks like you do get what you pay for and I will never, ever return to the Daresbury no matter how cheap it is.

Aaron Baxter 6 years ago

Negative experience: Cant bring own food in even if you pay £60 plus for a room and the room was definitely not as it described when booking. Friendly staff though

Gareth Howard 6 years ago

Negative experience: Poor service, no telephone number, no email reply and crazy parking eye company wanting to fine you for staying at the Hotel. Sent them receipt of room and evening meal and still want a fine, emailed Desebury Hotel as the telephone number doesnt work and no reply, Steer clear cheap, tatty and evening meal very poor.

jody baldwin 6 years ago

Negative experience: The room was boiling with no way to cool it down as the window only opened about an inch, we were later told this was a problem throughout level 3. There were stains all over the walls & carpets, the bath filled up when you showered and the bathroom ceiling was covered in mould. The side of the bath wasn't even attached, no soap in the dispenser. Only 1 set of towels for 2 people. The curtain rails didn't meet in the middle so you couldn't close the curtains. We paid £180 to get about 6 houes sleep total the 2 nights we stayed there. Both elevators were out of order. The whole place was depressing & in dire need of a refurb, looks like it's been given up on.

JOHN BOWATER 6 years ago

Negative experience: Stopped here the weekend as part of a super break package with Chester Zoo.....Nice reception etc but I am completely lost as to how a hotel of this size can leave carpet of that state on the lift floors and that no one has got it changed This is he first impression you get before you go up to your room,it stank and was filthy to say the least in both lifts, this would literally take 10 minutes to take out and glue a new piece in place,it has clearly been like this for some time due to the state of it,this must be breaking health and safety laws. Room was pleasant, comfortable and well equipped no complaints with that Breakfast is buffet with small sandwich sized plates I have never grasped using small plates as you can go up as many times as you like anyway, just give the customer a normal sized plate ! Then when I went up for breakfast I realised why a big plate was not required, the fried eggs were rock hard and actually had graying yolks and were inedible, sausage the same rock hard and flavorless and the bacon was just like chewing salt not good at all,as I am a fair reviewer if you do not like cooked breakfast then the continental options were plentiful and tasty as was the herbal tea selection The room was savior and stopped a 1 star review, come on guys spend 20 minutes and chnage those filthy lift carpets and learn someone to fry an egg, your location is great for the surrounding areas but due to the above I would 100% not stop again.

Fantastic experience: Very good spa facilities including a heated pool, a jaccusi and a steam room. There is also a well equipped gym. I had a back massage during my visit which was very relaxing and enjoyable.

Helen McGuire 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Good food, comfortable rooms, well priced bar. Great having spa facilities on site. Best thing about here is the staff! Helpful, polite and go out of their way to help with anything.

Mark Davison 6 years ago

Positive experience: Clean, comfortable and good food but could do with a bit of a refurb to modernise it. Staff were helpful and friendly but there seemed to be a bit of confusion at the bar where we were charged a different price for the same drinks we had the day before. A good base if your travelling into Liverpool or Chester but their isn't really anything to do nearby on an evening.

Negative experience: Stayed on Friday night reception staff nice moved us to a quiet room, so now it gets worse went to the bar no seats free took an absolute eternity to get served then went for the carvery, well must say I have had thicker cup a soup than the soup on offer, pepole wanted to order food off the bar menu but couldn't eat it in the restaurant even thought the bar was rammed packed. So once I ate my bowl of warm water off to the carvery i went only to wait 10 minutes for the chef to make an appearance to serve me beef full of fat very poor selection of veg. Pudding just bought in no sign of anything hand made Breakfast again waited 5-10 minutes to be seated by what can only be described as the grumpiest waiter I have met, then no milk no bacon no plates the morning just kept getting worse to the point we didnt even chance the spa facilities, very disappointed have stayed before but don't think we will visit again

Chris Roberts 6 years ago

Negative experience: Dreadful. £70 for a 40 year old room and 20 minutes of WiFi. After paying £7 for use of the WiFi it went off after 30 minutes. The router went down completely. So instead of watching my wonderful box sets I watched the net curtain move against a magnolia surround. Will not be staying in a Britannia hotel again

Tony Cozzolino 6 years ago

Positive experience: It is a shame that this hotel could do with a bit of money invested into bringing it up to date. It is a large hotel and it feels like it hasn’t changed since the 70’s One of the 2 lifts were out of order and the swimming pool was out of action when we were there. A 40p bar of chocolate will cost you £1 and the cash machine charges you £1.75 The positives:- Gym is good and well equipped Food is good

Emilie Young 6 years ago

Negative experience: On arrival the hotel looked dirty, the staff seemed very rude. When in the room the hair dryer set fire and blew up, the bathroom light was out. There was no apology for this. Would not recommend

solomon suulola 6 years ago

Negative experience: Very dated, had to return to reception 3 times on check in as my card wouldn't work, staff unsympathetic, no apology..simply said here is another room try this . Walk from the room to reception was about 5 minutes including flight of stairs. Did 3 times with suitcase. Breakfast mediocre

Victoria Wilding 6 years ago

Positive experience: Went for a spa day - all the staff and treatments were great. The staff in the health club are really helpful, approachable and knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Our treatments were both exactly what you would expect. However, the premises are looking a little tired and would probably benefit from a refurb. The changing rooms had one working hair dryer. The shower door did not close and the shower was not firmly attached to the wall. Our afternoon tea was served down in the bar - where staff are evidently more difficult to locate. It was disappointing to hear the bar manager claim she had been out only 2 minutes before the spa staff I went back for came to find her, as my friend had been sat in front of the bar whilst I went searching for staff. The afternoon tea itself was average - some of the cakes were still frozen, but it was edible in general. The best thing about this place is definitely the attitude of the spa staff. It would be lovely to see the place in a better state of repair.

Negative experience: We stayed in a room with no windows and no air vent! No windows! So there was no fresh air and no natural light. The room became so hot at night it was unbearable and we had no way to cool the room. We had to sleep on top of the blankets with minimal clothing. The photos shown on the website are NOT what the room looked like. It was dated, the bed was a rollaway, and the bathroom was small and the toilet appeared to have a yellow liquid, possibly urine or cleaner when we arrived. 20 minutes of free WiFi otherwise you pay. The phone in the room to call reception did not work. Also, no hairdryer in room. The breakfast was average.

Positive experience: Had we not used a Groupon voucher this would be a lower rating. The whole hotel could do a good deep clean and atleast a lick of paint as it is a bit run down. The hotel has a nice reception area but as you move further in to the hotel it gets bleaker. The food in the restaurant is basic at best. On the whole you get want to pay for and we didn't pay that much for the visit. Had we paid full price we wouldn't have stayed or eat there.

Negative experience: Clean room but dated, bed rather uncomfortable due to springs. Do not have the mixed grill most of it was unedible, it took an age to come. Finally the place smells like smoke

Positive experience: Impressive reception and efficient friendly staff. Room was comfortable but decor is dated. Comfy bed.

Negative experience: Make sure you pay the parking, even if you are just calling in for a query. I now have to fight Parkingeye in court as i was kept extra long at the reception and over stayed by 4 minutes. This is after entering the car park and being distracted by the cattle grid which is located by the parking sign, very easily missed and expensive if you do

Positive experience: Stayed here 8/9th Feb, no problems what so ever, for the price of the stay we was pleased room was clean and spacious, food was enjoyable and was HOT , staff are friendly from reception and coffee shop too bar and restaurant, couldn't fault them, would and will be staying here again

Negative experience: Booked for 1 night based on the website and photos. I would say the expectation versus the reality were very different. The staff were friendly enough, but the hotel is run down and in serious need of modernisation. The rooms are cheap, so expectations were not high to start with. Things like bathroom fixtures were tired, cracks, dirty grouting and the labelling of where to find the rooms was a bit of an adventure! I didn't fancy trying out the leisure facilities or food based on the room. Parking is free but you must sign in at reception or you might get charged.

Fantastic experience: I like Darebury to meet up for a business meeting / coffee. Good car parking and the latte is very good to be fair. Have not stayed or tried the rest of the venue but looks OK.

Fantastic experience: Excellent prices, excellent venue, went there for a soul music function, everything was under one roof, stayed there for the night. Really enjoyed myself. Breakfast was fantastic as well, even had traditional Caribbean food on the menu. Very thoughtful. Would definitely go again

Fantastic experience: Great value. Really great staff. 2nd time staying here and this time even better. I booked Weds 23rd Jan2019 by accident and really wanted Thursday 24th. Without hesitation the lady went to speak to her manager to see if there was anything they could do. They cancelled the previous nights cooking which was my fault and offset it against tonight's room. There was a £3 difference so they put that on my drinks / meal tab also. Could not fault the service or the team. Will be stopping here again.

Negative experience: Only 1 star because i have too....Do not be fooled by the cheap groupon deal like we were....the rooms are ok but dated...the spa & changing rooms are dirty, outdated & dam right disgusting.Pool & jacuzzi is cloudy...steam room was like someone had tread mud through it...changing rooms havnt been cleaned in months! Food is basic like made by a teanager....would never stay here again! Although the staff are friendly...they have no choice! Dont know what shocking houses these people that put 10 out of 10 live in tbh.

Positive experience: Cheap and dated, nice staff. Suitable if on a tight budget. On that price you can not expect much more. Good location and pool.

Negative experience: This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in the bar/lounge was like cheap labour club with people smoking cannabis outside!! The area was dirty and just not at all inviting it was honestly the worst night of my life!! Getting on the the room it was horrific the room was small, damp and dirty not to mention the bed what was hard and so uncomfortable please don't stay here trust me it's a horrible place the staff are really snotty and the BAR it's a joke you'd be better having a drink in a pub in the ghetto!! SHOCKING IM PUSHING FOR MY MINEY BACK

Positive experience: Room was good, facalities were excellent except INTERNET, it was limited only 2 x 20 min, in lobby it's available unlimited.

Negative experience: Incompetent and irresponsible staff. I've been charged without my knowledge additional night. Apparently guests must othorise access to their bank accounts to be charged by the hotel on its own discretion. There was only "sorry" for what ammounts to theft, misleading of customers and the great inconvinience of blocking compromised credit card just before cristmass. I can't recommend place where poorly paid staff is given full access to the guests bank accounts.

Fantastic experience: I would like to say how rubbish it is but that would be a lie only cos I only stayed for one night and I could of just lived there the spa was amazing very clean the meals was hot nice well I can tell you everything but try it you will love it and the staff are kind caring from kitchen bar and reception will be staying again when in the area

Negative experience: Came on a turkey and tinsel 5 day break. First the positives:- Room was spacious and clean. Staff are lovely Negatives:- Food mediocre - if you like rubber eggs and frazzled greasy bacon and luke warm breakfast you'll be ok. Only 1 main course vegetarian option and the same option each night. We did ask for something else (it was for my friend) and she was offered an alternative. Bearing in mind this was a turkey and tinsel break - decorations were extremely minimal and no atmosphere whatsoever of being a celebration holiday. On 'Christmas' day we asked if there was any entertainment - we were told there was. They lied. We waited in the entertainment room for over half an hour and ... Nothing. Checked again with reception and other staff - we were told again that there was ... again nothing. In the end we gave up and went back to our rooms. No effort whatsoever has been made to make this an enjoyable experience for guests. In addition on one evening the chef (?) carried a container of hot soup through the restaurant and spilt the lot- missing me by a few inches- he burnt his arm - thank heavens it missed me! But what a ridiculous thing to do - having the serving table on the opposite side of the restaurant to the kitchen. What if a child had been in the way. I voiced my concern the following morning but the soup was in the same place the following night. Would I recommend this place - no chance.

Negative experience: Seems to me like the place is running down. Dirty and very poor air quality in the rooms and corridors. Over priced food and drink.

Liam Reardon 7 years ago

Negative experience: The first room was full of damp. The second room they put us in they had bleached the ceiling to try and clear the damp which dripped on our clothes ruining them. We were given the general managers email by the house keeping manager ( she was lovely and very apologetic) who has for months now just ignored us. Trust me I don't complain really and small things don't bother me either but I'd pick a night in artic winter in my girlfriend Renault Clio then this hotel. Sorry just the way it is.

Negative experience: Not a nice place, I’m affraid. Would not stay here again! Visiting for a conference- good size meeting room, however... - food/ dinner breakfast.... not nice... over cooked, or undercooked. Tasteless. A “bad pub” quality in other words. - good service, though! Staff very nice hence 2stars. - rooms- asked for a room swap. 1st room, broken window, broken curtains etc. No phone to call the reception- plus a mile to walk to the reception! 2- room: very tired! Bed and materace horrible and old. Scared to even look at the materace... stained, tired, back hurts from sleeping on it. Flat pillows- no spares in the cupboards. - bathroom: it’s not the cleanest. Dust and some hair everywhere... You can have an old place/ but you can still try to look after and clean the rooms! The devil lies in the details!

Fantastic experience: After staying at a Britannia Hotel before and being disappointed I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was very clean, warm and comfortable. The evening meal was very enjoyable. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We spent some time in the enclosed garden, shielded from the elements. Breakfast was also enjoyable, staff being very helpful and friendly despite obviously being very busy. We only had an overnight stay, but we were made very welcome.

Negative experience: Terrible, photos look nice, but it is far from nice, lift out of order, all of 2 drinks vending machines out of order, pool table out of order, cannot pay by card for food, cash only, the food is poor but expensive, nearest shop 3 miles away, very isolated location, spa pool cold, swimming pool cold, the only toilet in pool out of order i had to use toilet in my room, all the people staying here including mysef are away on work, the photos are old and dishonest, i asked for a coke instead of wine which came with overpriced meal which took an hour to cook, the meal was awful not worth £20,00 ! Then i got a pbone call to my room at war5 demanding i pay for my coke, i explained i had it instead of wine, but the staff member explained its not thejir fault i not like wine and i must pay for my coke, and my friend pay for his draft beer, i am fuming as i feel like i have been robbed even tho my boss payed for the room. This is by far the worst hotel i have stayed in in my life. Apart from the woman that phoned my room at 2345 the staff are friendly, they are very young and i feel sorry for them. Avoid at all costs, if your boss books you this room call him a cheap skate. I have stayed in better hostels.

Negative experience: Stayed here on an overnight stop. The entrance is grand and imposing and the grounds were clearly very well maintained. The room we were given had a clean bathroom and there was also hairdryer, ironing board and iron supplied as well as the usual tea and coffee bits. That's the good points, but sadly the bad points somewhat outweigh these. There are clearly parking issues as you have to pass numerous overbearing signs and A boards reminding you to log your car reg in at reception. Inside, the one working lift doesn't look as if it has ever been cleaned since the last farmer took his flock of sheep up in it (no offence intended to sheep farmers). The corridors go on to present you with a delightful selection of peeling and faded wallpapers as you pass all the scuffed and ageing doorways of the inmates along the long and complex route to your room. Once inside the room, should you manage to find the light switch, you will be presented with the "contemporary rooms" decor. Disappointingly ours was contemporary with the 1980's with dark wood furniture and doors and complete with holes in the wall where long forgotten pieces of equipment and appliances had once been affixed. Surfaces of the dressing and side tables show the patina of the many cups of tea and coffee enjoyed by past guests. Unfortunately my mobile phone slipped off the the side table at one point in the evening and made contact with the "contemporary" carpeting. Sadly the carpet failed to cushion the poor phone's fall and broke it completely. The TV is the smallest I have come across for many years but the unit in which it was mounted was quite something! For the benefit of younger listeners, back in the 1970's there used to be television sets that were marginally smaller than a small car, and in those days you used to be able buy a special wooden cabinet which would hold said TV together with your equally as huge BetaMax VCR (google it) underneath on a special shelf. This unit is one of those, and considering how old it must be, was in pretty darned good condition, albeit taking up a good quarter of the room. Tired, unloved and unmaintained are generally three words my wife uses to describe me but she found a new use for them when we turned up here. So, to bed, or was it the floor? not a great deal of difference did I perceive. No, to be fair the bed was a little softer. Had to get out again, of course, to switch off the lights at the other end of the room as the switch by the bed didn’t work. Couldn’t even use the torch on my chuffing phone to find my way back. Looking forward to returning to review the Spa facilities.

Positive experience: Nice place to stay. Evening meal first night excellent. Second night poor not enough food ready for the second sitting. Some of the staff attitude very poor

Jeanette Pearson 7 years ago

Negative experience: Not the best hotel around. Cheap but not cheerful. Shame as it's not a patch on how it used to be when it was the Lord daresbury hotel. Was beautiful. We spent out wedding night there. Was given the smallest room in the planet. We recommended it to a lot of our friends and family. Talk about embarrassed. Breakfast was awful. Cold and disappointing. Suppose you get what you pay for.

Positive experience: The room was very functional, beds comfortable, bathroom was clean - no luxury but very pleasant, the only but was the internet connection - access in the room is paid after 20 minutes - on this day and age internet in the room should be like running water and electricity

Negative experience: Diabolical room, mould everywhere in bathroom, mattress made me roll out of bed. Wouldn't let my dog sleep there! Never again, saving grace company business so no costs to me

Positive experience: It's a massive place and a bit isolated. Staff are great. Rooms are average. Masses of parking. Good for organised coach trips.

Charles Lindsay 7 years ago

Negative experience: This place needs a major refurbishment. Dirty and ripped carpets don't think it's been painted since it was built. Evening meal a joke powdered soup, frozen battered fish (Farmfoods) Breakfast the only good thing. Bar service slow apart from Bex I think her name was seemed to be doing most of the work while others wandered about aimlessly. Certainly not a 4 star hotel

Kieran Burns 7 years ago

Negative experience: Tired is the best word to use for this hotel. Missing door number, non-working lights in the bathroom. Poorly cooked food make it a place I would not recommend but I will say that the staff are very good.

James Brewster 7 years ago

Negative experience: Dreadful. The room we had been given was disgraceful. We had not asked for a smoking room but were given one (contrary to hotel regulation). It was very dusty and dirty. It had an old television without a remote control in the room. Some lights and the telephone were not working. Worst of all when we left the room we found that the door once shut could be opened from the outside without the room key. We had to be moved but the alternative room was not a lot better. Each time we tried to enter the room the room keycard did not work which meant a trip to reception to resolve. I am sorry for the poor staff who have to work there and field the stream of complaints from guests. The place is a dump needing a massive refurbishment.

Fantastic experience: We had a very enjoyable stay, a couple of small issues on arrival but they were dealt with straight away. Staff were very helpful, polite and efficient, both the breakfasts and evening meals were lovely and choice was good. The room was clean and comfortable.
