The small and main pools will be closing from Monday 25th November through to Sunday 12th January due to essential maintenance work. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused. Both pools will close on Sunday 24th November following the final timetabled sessions and scheduled to reopen Monday 13th January. Please note all dates are subject to the contractors’ completing works on time.
During the closure, both pools tanks will be checked for repairs, poolside fully retiled and the changing rooms refurbished. Alongside the maintenance works on the pool tanks, we are also installing a new energy efficient LED lighting system. This work will allow Leeds City Council to achieve its long-term plans for Morley Leisure Centre and reduce its carbon footprint. The works will provide a cleaner Leisure Centre for future generations through sustainable clean energy.
Whilst we appreciate the pool closures may cause disruption, they are necessary to continue the operation of the pools. During the closure members will be able to access any of the other Active Leeds Leisure Centres, including Armley, John Charles or Rothwell which are within a reasonable distance of Morley.
In preparation for the closure our online joining for swim lessons has been temporarily paused and will resume in the New Year ready for when we reopen.
Keep up to date on our progress by following us on our social media channels, Facebook or Instagram or visit active.leeds.gov.uk or download Active Leeds App.
Remember you no longer have to book in advance for your swim session. You can just turn up for your desired session, but we would advise to arrive 15 minutes before your session as they will be filled on a first come first served basis.
Please note both pools at Morley Leisure Centre will be closed Monday 25th November - Sunday 12th January due to essential maintenance work. Please follow us on social media for progress and further updates.
* Juniors need to be accompanied by a responsible participating adult (18yrs+) outside the junior gym times. Ratio for u16 junior to adult is 2:1 (private education groups have a specific risk assessment which alter the ratios). School holiday: centre specific sessions will be put on and advertised in advance, check our Facebook page.

Morley Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Just rejoined for another year using the Black Friday offer-Fantastic Value! I love the gym at Morley The staff are always friendly and helpful especially Charlotte who always makes time to ask about my day and training sessions The gym and changing areas are always clean and today too Highly recommend!!
Negative experience: Went to the gym today told by the lady my clothes were wrong. Which is fine but to be told and shamed in front of other gym members is not acceptable. Spoke with the manager and he said the lady had a different story of events. Well thank you for believing your customers Needles to say that’s the last of my money these will receive
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for a nerf party
Negative experience: Wanted to go to the gym normally, a lady tells me that my clothes are wrong for the gym? Then when i ask to see a rule about it she interrupts me?
Fantastic experience: Great centre with good facilities, helpful staff and a great gym.
Fantastic experience: Great facility for various games, gym, well maintained swimming pool, friendly staff, canteen, good number of parking places (limited time parking is free of cost), disabled parking, good support to the games for disabled, clean bathrooms with a facility to shower, dress change etc,,,
Fantastic experience: Always my go to excellent centre i love the gym and the classes
Fantastic experience: From EBO BARBER 117 queen street is good gym and friendly staff
Positive experience: It gives wrong information sometimes
Fantastic experience: Comfortable atmosphere and lovely community
Fantastic experience: Gym was updated a year ago. It has all the necessary equipments for everyone's needs, but it is constantly very busy.
Negative experience: Having my sister ring me crying as she has been told she needs to get out of a swimming pool because she was too slow, A pregnant woman, Who used the slow lane to swim?? Left her feeling embarrassed and ashamed & crying. This is discrimination on every level. She has also sent an email. This seriously needs to be addressed I am absolutely shocked at how she has been treated today. How is this even aloud to happen, It’s a swimming pool. She should be able to do whatever she wants not keep up to the speed you want them to go. Honestly I have never heard anything like it. I will continually write and shame this place till someone gives her an answer for why she was discriminated for being pregnant in a swimming pool. Her partner has also been in a motorbike accidents recently and cannot swim or use his legs as he previously could, left never wanting to go swimming again. I have tried to call but you are closed. Expect a phone call when you open.
Negative experience: Sent massive complaint. Got kicked out the pool today after 15 mins as I was pregnant and taking my time with my partner. Told we have to continuously swim even though we were in a slow lane. The staff were absolutely shocking!!!! Only go here if you want you are clearly a athletic swimmer
Fantastic experience: Just an appreciation review for James, the gym instructor. I started the gym a couple of months ago and was just free styling when I went. James gave me an 8 week work out plan on 12th May, I have been doing that now, 4 to 5 times a week and I have lost 8lb up until today - 29th May. I'm so grateful to James giving me a plan that I am so quickly seeing the results from. Great guy, very professional. Thank you.
Negative experience: Well I haven't been, but judging on how incompetent and abrupt the person is who I emailed for information is, I'm not sure I want to. Just because you are council led, does not mean you have to be rude. Private is the only way I think.
Positive experience: Nice place for hangout, swimming pool, badminton court, gym all facilities are available . Beautiful place to hang out.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre and great staff. Coffee always good and good selection of food.
Fantastic experience: Morley Leisure Centre offers a well-rounded fitness experience with state-of-the-art facilities. The modern gym equipment caters to various fitness levels, and the diverse range of classes, from yoga to high-intensity workouts, ensures there's something for everyone. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist. The swimming pool is well-maintained, providing a refreshing escape. The center's cleanliness and organization contribute to a positive atmosphere. Morley Leisure Centre stands out as a community hub for health and wellness.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic for baby/toddler classes my little one loves their swimming lesson (pool reasonably warm) and the swim teacher Megan fantastic. Gymnastics is also great. Staff always friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: Good installation for me only have 1problem when kids going afternoon they block machines they sit down playing with there phones but excellent after 5.30pm and weekends
Fantastic experience: Great place , friendly staff, gym equipment is in great condition with wide variety of free weight and mechanised units, the pool area is clean
Fantastic experience: super-equipped sports center
Positive experience: The place is great...usually. It was until we were evacuated during a swimming session and made to leave the pool and head outside into the cold. I had my 2 children with me and of course we were pretty much naked. Now they did provide emergency tin foil blankets which meant we didn't freeze but we were out side for 45 minutes. My problem is that we didn't receive a refund or a free session. We were simply kicked out and nothing more was said. This is unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: good faulty
Fantastic experience: A Fresh new gym and a new policy to kick the kids out after we adults finish work. Kick 'em out, the little brats
Negative experience: Arrived with our child to dismissively be told small pool was closed. We said there was nothing on the website and got the reply that they weren't allowed to?.... Was going to go for food in the cafe, but again abruptly told the cafe closes at 12. We've never known this before and eaten in the afternoon many times. Needs training in customer service. We wouldn't bother going again now.
Negative experience: My 15 yr old son has a youth membership here and has been going to the gym 3x a week at 7pm for over a year. We found out via social media that they have just implemented a new policy where youth members can only attend 3.30-5.30, so basically straight after school only. The council/leisure centre hasn't even had the decency to contact youth members to inform them of the change.
Positive experience: A beautiful leisure center
Positive experience: Really good when the small pool is open. Twice when i have phoned to check and been told that the small pool is open. only to arrive and the small pool was closed. Not sure if they have enough staff
Negative experience: This would have been 4 stars. My 14yo son has Junior Gym Membership, just been informed that they're limiting hours the under 16's can attend due to staff limitations (and possibly kids being morons on the equipment). 3pm to 530pm on weekdays are the new hours from 1st September '23 with varying hours on weekends - apparently need to check website for these hours. Kids finish school at 3pm or just after. Some have after school clubs, some walk home, get fed and go to the gym. The kids have no chance attaining these hours. No thought process has been involved in this new crazy rule for Junior Gym. If some kids are being stupid in the gyms, contact their emergency contacts and ban them. A lot of kids are serious about their physical and of course mental health and Leeds Active are making is extremely hard for these kids to exercise at their own leisure.
Positive experience: Great, local place for lots of fitness activities for everyone. From swimming lessons, tot the gym to water polo
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool
Positive experience: Went for a baton comp
Negative experience: For 6 months, my husband and I have brought our 4 children swimming on a Friday evening. Recently (the last 4-6 weeks), the small pool has been closed for 3 weeks in a row, which is a nightmare for us. We have one very confident and able swimmer, one semi-swimmer (who can actually swim well but due to his autism, fears being alone and stays with my husband in the water), a very novice 5 year old (who can’t swim unaided) and a 2 year old who actually swims incredibly well and by himself, with a floating vest. It’s so important, for the safety of the kids, that the youngest 2 use the small pool. Last time the pool was closed, I asked the lady on reception how I could check in future. She said to check Facebook, as it would be on there; this evening when I checked social media before leaving, there was no recent update so I phoned them. I called at 18:08 and the swim session starts at 18:15. I was told the small pool was open, so we set off with a very excited 5 year old who was going to get to fully enjoy her swimming again. You can imagine our frustration when we arrived, and were told by the receptionist that the small pool wasn’t open!!! It’s simply become unreliable and useless to us, so we’ll now be seeking an alternative swimming pool to use, which is a shame as we have loved going here for the last 6 months but tonight was ridiculous. To make matters worse, whilst trying to “swim” with them all in a pool too deep and too busy for 2 of them, our youngest 2 were enjoying some time jumping in, whilst my husband went to swim with our eldest for a little while (who was bored at the deep end on her own). As my husband and eldest returned to us, swimming from the deep end to the shallow end, my youngest was stood on the side of the pool waiting to jump in and noticed his Dad swimming closer. He ran along the edge of the pool excitedly and the two of us called for him to stop (which he did), and swam to him. He stopped at the line where non-swimmers must stop in the pool and jumped in to my husband. One of the lifeguards frantically shouted “no, no, no!!!” at us and spent the rest of the session looking at us angrily and worried. Had the small pool been open, this would never have even happened but to make such a fuss and leave us feeling so uncomfortable when he had ran a couple of meters, stopped when told and jumped safely in to his Dad, was also ridiculous. A real shame, we used to love it here.
Positive experience: Nice gym, friendly reception and gym staff. Unfortunately the swimming pool has got "cliques" with the regular customers and certain staff who unofficially reserve swimming lanes on the morning width swim for the regulars.
Negative experience: Nice gym but expensive for what it is. £26 a month only to struggle to get a work out in thanks to 10 year olds playing on the equipment like it's a playground....First gym I've ever seen anything like this. Not safe for young children to be using equipment and a nuisance to adult members....Not too bad if you actually manage to catch a time when it's not completely full.
Positive experience: Overall, it's a really good place to relax and spend some time with family and friends. Activities range from table tennis to swimming. They also have different activity catalogues for different seasons of the year. The only issue I have is the way they handle some of the bookings. I have seen many brawls occurring between customers and employees who think that the court bookings have been altered in some way or another. Aside from that, it's a 5/5
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Only used the swimming pool with my daughter. But we’ll staffed and clean.
Negative experience: Totally disappointed with seating arrangements for 1st competition of the year majorettes. Sold so many tickets not even standing room, disgusting and dangerous!!!!
Positive experience: Nice clean gym, however overly busy and it can be overwhelming for those who lack low gym confidence. They also have a variety of classes but you have to ensure you book a week and 2 days before at midnight to guarantee a place as they get fully booked by 3am!! This is no joke as, I spend my Saturday night waiting up to book on to legs bums and tums for a week on Tuesday! Also avoid going to the gym between 3-5 as they let the school kids in, and again can be nerve wracking feeling you're getting laughed at. Any time after 5 is also busy! I tend to go around 12/1 on my lunch break where its kind if quiet. The monthly membership is £25.99 and I don't think it has many benefits whereas JD gyms have plenty of gym equipment and classes. I've been a gym member for 5 years and always found it busy, but prefer the clintel as I feel I don't have to put a full face of make up on to work out, where if I went to JD gyms I think I would, as I feel its more about looks. Think leeds city council need to pause gym memberships and stop being so greedy, as I feel they taking money off people and customers aren't getting the full experience. It would also be nice if they initiated more classes. On a plus side the staff are nice and helpful
Fantastic experience: Still the best Sports Centre in Leeds. Just needs a sauna and a squash court
Positive experience: Gym is a bit too small, sometimes a bit too busy, but reasonably good
Fantastic experience: A really all inclusive place. Great, helpful and friendly staff and lovely clean amenities.
Fantastic experience: Very nice clean and I enjoyed the activities ♥️
Fantastic experience: Great place to visit. Lots of classes and choices, a cafe with hot and cold food, clean, ample parking, friendly staff. Thanks Leeds City Council
Positive experience: 休閒運動的好地方
Positive experience: Lovely little gym. Could do with some more space and an overall update but it has the bare minimum. I would say though that perhaps the policy needs looking at as I’ve seen kids in there, lifting weights that are immensely too heavy for them with extremely poor form that could not have been older than 13 years- which is terribly unhealthy. Tat bit too expensive for what it is gym wise but you do get lots of additional elements outside just the gym for it.
Positive experience: Gym could do with more weights and benches.
Fantastic experience: I love going to the Morley Leisure Centre! The staff are always friendly and the facilities are really clean. It's a great place to work out and go swimming. I highly recommend it!
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff. Good clean facilities.
Fantastic experience: Modern, bright, has everything you need without any hassle and the prices are reasonable. Spot on.
Positive experience: The opening hours for the centre on googlemaps are correct. But note if you are going to the gym it closes 30 mins earlier I.e. Mon - Fri 07:00 - 21:30 Sat 08:00 - 18:00 Sun 08:00 - 21:00. Only used gym and swimming which are both as you'd want, area clean, equipment decent, swimming lanes fine.
Positive experience: Great place for the kids to learn swimming, from ages 1-12 y/o, friendly staff is clean and a modern building with cafe and seating facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and you can swim there too.
Fantastic experience: A very good pool and facilities. Hopefully I will get back to swimming three times a week.
Fantastic experience: Baby/ toddler pool was excellent, lots of pool toys for them to play with, also, went to the cafe afterwards and the standard of the food was excellent, very good prices, would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: I go for the circuit training which I find really enjoyable staff are amazing so friendly and helpful. Well worth a try.
Negative experience: Great Leisure centre that is always busy. I was there last night and just one to be aware of, watch out for the drunk cleaner always loitering around the locker areas. She can be very rude.
Positive experience: Nice leisure center, bit of a shame there is no floats , balls etc for the kids , I use the small pool as I have a young daughter but nothing for them to play with , also only short sessions 45 mins or an hour , went yesterday and had to be evacuated after half an hour due to another child been sick , but of a shame when u pay for an hour and only get half an hour !
Fantastic experience: Very good staff team, well run centre.Good selection of activities.
Positive experience: The facilities look modern and nice. I used the small pool with my toddler. It was too cold for her, after 20 minutes she had had enough and was shivering with blue lips - I kept having to take her for hot showers, as were other parents with their small children/ babies. Most of the very little kids were out well before the session ended. I noticed my skin was flaking when I got home and the skin on my face was sore - I'd only been in the water a short while. Not had this from other swimming pools so can only assume there is a very high concentration of chlorine used. I won't use this pool again for these particular reasons which is a shame as it looks really modern with good facilities.
Fantastic experience: All the sports you want! Most popular is the swimming
Fantastic experience: Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of gym equipment. Really enjoy going to Morley Leisure Centre.
Fantastic experience: Very good leisure centre, sometimes can be too busy. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Very nice and very clean I like it I love to play there
Fantastic experience: Its ok not bad at all needs boxing bag tho
Positive experience: Good gym, missing a sauna
Fantastic experience: This is a very modern and solidly built leisure centre with all the amenities.
Fantastic experience: A great facility! I go just for the gym but they seem to have a good selection of classes and a popular swimming pool. The gym has a wide variety of equipment available with very friendly and helpful instructors to advise. Plenty of cleaning stations too which most people use. I enjoy my time here; its a place that makes you feel at ease the moment you walk through the door.
Negative experience: We booked every week 2 hours for badminton. Everything was good all time but now I think they change the rules. If u booked for badminton now you can play football or basketball on same court.floor staff very rude . If u asking for help they took hours to come . From next week we’ll book two badminton court . In 1 court we’ll play badminton and other 1 play basketball or football
Fantastic experience: Clean. Efficient staff. Well signed. A pleasurable visit.
Fantastic experience: Great range of activities available, I addition to the gym area. Great staff, friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: It was OK it just needs a spar , so it's back to Dewsbury baths for me I'm afraid, I love a spar after a swim
Fantastic experience: Really lovely helpful reception staff. My son has swimming lessons and all the instructors are fabulous with him. Cannot sing their praises enough.
Fantastic experience: Visited this afternoon at 4pm, nice and quiet, ideal time to go
Fantastic experience: The staff are always fantastic. They always go above and beyond. Throughout lockdown, I think they did so much to ensure customers were kept safe and felt comfortable in the leisure centre. Now life is returning to normal, they continue to go the extra mile. They always happy to help with anything and always so friendly.
Fantastic experience: Really amazing place, I used to go there twice a week before COVID 19. Clean, helpful staff and all-round positive place. It includes café, gym, pool and activities for children as well. If you haven't been, then you should go. With disabled access as well. I love going there and can't wait to go back. It has great facilities for adults and children and kids can have parties there as well!
Fantastic experience: Loved going for a family swim. Greeted at entry and told where to go. Will go again.
Positive experience: From what I saw it looks to be a well equipped, clean sports centre. Can’t comment much more as took a child to a swimming lesson
Positive experience: It's a nice building, clean and functional with decent staff. Good courts and equipment and a good experience while there. The website however is not great... it works but I wouldn't consider it well designed. Overall pretty good
Negative experience: Rude members of staff
Fantastic experience: Great service. Very friendly staff, had a great swim after a very long time. Loved it.
Fantastic experience: The centre had covid restrictions in place and it was really well done, it was also really clean and tidy, I felt very safe.
Negative experience: Too many restrictions for me st the moment. Sorry to say I am now going to a private gym
Fantastic experience: Enjoyable experience and the centre was very clean and well maintained.
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Very helpful
Positive experience: First lesson back after lockdown. Very clean and less people which made the experience less stressful than the usual crowded scene that surrounds the changing rooms. Which becomes a mud bath and hot and stuffy normally. Regardless of covid the changing rooms should always be of a high standard of hygiene...which sadly it wasn't always the case before...
Positive experience: Pool is open!! Very difficult to book in though, online bookings taken upto 9 days in advance and peak times, evenings & weekends fill up very quickly. All very safe once in though and guidelines followed
Fantastic experience: Well organised during this Covid19 partial opening period. Very clean. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: I am a member here since last may had no problems with the gym and other classes but the lockers need sorting as some dont work and yeh the smell in gym bug can't expect anything else when working up a sweat got yo be done ain't it maybe some spray machines or summat could be fitted to walls with nice smelling airfresner any body any ideas lol
Negative experience: Not enough Pilates or spin classes the computers on the spin bikes either don’t work or work intermittently not helpful when you are trying to build your fitness level. Staff good and classes well instructed.
Negative experience: We were members at the gym for over a year and have recently cancelled our contract. The gym overall is decent and kept clean and tidy and I'd say it's decent value for £25pppm. The equipment in the gym is good quality and they have a good range of machines, weights and cardio equipment. They have a water fountain and there is always staff around to help if you need it. We chose to leave and join JD Gym in Morley for several reasons: - JD is cheaper at just £19.99 pppm - The equipment at JD is all brand new and so less likely to break and take weeks to be fixed - The gym at the leisure centre can often end up feeling a bit like a youth club when you have several under 16's playing about on machines, not exactly what you want, especially when it's busy - WHY ON EARTH do they insist on having both of those annoyingly unreliable sign-in machines downstairs? For people going to the gym there should be one upstairs outside the gym. - There is a sauna at the JD Gym - There is a bigger car park at the JD Gym - Opening hours, opening the gym at the leisure centre at 7am means a lot of people can't get a work-out in before going to work for 9am. JD opens at 6am which means I can get there, work out, shower, change and drive to work by 9am. The leisure centre served a purpose because there wasn't anything else better close by until recently.
Fantastic experience: Excellent exercise facilities
Negative experience: Absolutely extautionate prices and then they extort you further when you try cancelling, even when you specifically go on the even more expensive contract-less option. As for the place itself, The gym is always a mess with weights never in order and left all over the place. Ok selection of equipment but could be better. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: This has a variety of activities available and you can join on a monthly basis. The swimming pools cater for adults and children alike. The small pool is ideal for children learning to swim or enjoy splashing around. The gym is well-equipped and has plenty of choice for training. The instructors are very experienced.
Negative experience: Reception staff great but the manager needs training in customer service. I will not be returning. Change your manager or you will loose a lot more customers.
Positive experience: Nobody ever answers the phone, ive been trying 2 days now
Positive experience: This is a very clean centre. The staff are very good too. Plenty of classes to choose from.
Negative experience: Dont even answer a phone call when you try to contact them. Best way to contact them is go to the reception and talk to them
