K-Star Thai Boxing Academy

Fantastic experience: Attended a taster session today at 7. Can’t remember his name, but the instructor was very helpful-he came over a few times to help with correct form and was very enthusiastic and professional.

Fantastic experience: I have been so far coming to this academy for 6 months. I can say from my own experience, the training is impeccable; you will learn not only from the great coaches but from your welcoming peers too. Axe, Ryan, Gene and Steven are all in their own ways great coaches and will help you become better than you are. Here, they not only offer a FREE trial Lesson for any new timers but also for the small fee of £59/monthly they offer ,alongside their academy Shorts and T-shirt, lessons EVERY day and grant access to the facility for self-training between the times of 8am up to 10pm (which is 14hrs) on the weekday and on weekends from 10am up to 2pm (which 4hrs). You are also in this sum of £59/monthly granted access to Apollo Gym whilst separate to this facility is good to note. Whilst most of the classes are in the evening; they do offer mid-day classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will find that the mornings are usually empty which is perfect to get in your own personal training for those that are free as all of the facility can be used. The Lessons usually take anywhere between 45min - 1hour and are conducted in pairs and led through coach guidance. You will find that the people that train alongside you in the gym, whether they are a beginner or an intermediate or any level, are helpful and friendly so long as you are respectful and kind to them. The coaches, as mentioned prior, are very welcoming and understanding to each member, wanting only to push you to doing better and becoming better. They are very approachable and helpful when you are not understanding something in the lesson and will aid you in any misconceptions you have. You will find that they have a reception where they offer not only drinks such as; water, energy drinks, protein drinks but also protein bars and equipment such as mouth pieces/shin guards etc... for a great price in comparison to store prices that can be paid both by cash or card with no minimum payment fee. Through my time as a beginner, I was taught the foundations that were then built upon in further lessons / self-training which have then helped me progress to becoming better than I was when I first started, in all aspects. Progressing then into Yellow (intermediate) had allowed me to spar with others and exponentially improved my progress and relations with people that attend. I can say overall this academy has by far been the best money I have spent as it has completely transformed my life in only 6 months, I could not recommend this place more to others who are looking into starting a martial art or even simply finding a hobby to stay in shape. My advice to people sceptical about this place because of some negative opinions would be: TRY IT, you get a free lesson anyway and until you see it you might not believe it, who knows you might just end up liking it.

Fantastic experience: I've been training here for just under 7 weeks, the beginners class welcomes all people and you feel included and involved in every session, I've only ever had positive and constructive conversations with Ryan and Axe, both are amazing teachers and take their time to make sure each individual understands each drill and is comfortable, the patience they both have is amazing, they push you to get better and better with each session.. Fantastic experience: Great gym and great vibes. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming so it makes joining an easy process. The coaches are also wicked, especially with the beginner classes. Big shout out to Axe, he’s very patient when teaching and he’ll watch and correct your form when you’re learning as well as hyping you up in the sessions. Definitely join this gym, would highly recommend!!

Positive experience: Great place but 1 trainer needs to know how to speak to adults correctly not like they are 4 year olds, people may be struggling, talk to people with less attitude & not in a patronizing manner!

Fantastic experience: I've been at K-Star about 6 months now. Steve is a brilliant, friendly coach. Aidan and Axe are also great, especially with the beginners. Overall, there is a great atmosphere, everyone is very helpful and I can see myself staying here for years to come.

Fantastic experience: Great instructors. I'm pretty old & decrepit, and while I got a great workout I wasn't pushed so far I thought I was in any danger medically. I feel like this is somewhere I can get fit and learn muay thai safely. Great experience.

Negative experience: Will take your money regardless of whether or not your children have their first lesson or even go to begin with. Owner seems more fixated on getting numbers and lining his pocket rather than delivering customer service and taking into account people’s personal circumstances, covid restrictions, etc. Based on that alone I would avoid this establishment and shop around rather than paying for just the brand. There are genuine classes and instructors and not crooks!

Positive experience: Very congested place. No social distancing. Did not appeal to me. 1st impression was not good. Lessons and training might be very good though.

Fantastic experience: I trained here from a good while back. Went back a few times for spells but then moved down south so training down here. Looks like its had a massive revamp by looking at pics. Ive been to alot of gyms. Kstar tops the lot. Great instructors. Great members. All the main instructors when i was there have gone on to own their own successful gyms now with some of their fighters pushing for stardom. And all that originated from kstar. Kstar along with a few other gyms in the uk are responsible for pushing the sport where it is today. If i ever move back to bham i will go straight back. Trust me there are some gyms in uk full of egos, alphas and people who want to hurt you in sparring. From my experience kstar do everything possible to eliminate that!

Fantastic experience: My son Ryan Moore trains at perry Barr kstar and is a very successful junior winning many titles over 8 years. My whole family have trained here, it’s a friendly atmosphere, great to train with steve logan. All the staff are like our family glad that we joined and still are a big part of the gym today.

Fantastic experience: I joined at the gym a couple months ago and I feel like I've made alot of progess. The instructors have alot of knowledge and put alot of time and effort to all members of the gym. I truly recommend this gym to anyone who is looking to learn self defence or even go further and become a world champion. This gym has had many world champions as young as the age of 13 and there are many more to come. I would never quit this gym for another one. I came here knowing 1 person and I have made multiple friends from many different backgrounds. Once again, I really recommend this gym to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Helpful and friendly atmosphere. My first class I was very nervous however the instructors put me at ease straight away and gave me a partner to train with. Equipment is incredible and the gym is clean. I will be a member for life. Thanks Steve for the confidence and skills you have given me.

Negative experience: This gym is sucks, they charge members however they like. Some Thai memberships £49 including apollo gym and some excluded, not acceptable at all ---- treating people differently.

Negative experience: Hi I want share my experience in K star perry Barr . Been there for 2 month, members are quite friendly , tom very nice guy and MMA trainer even better. But there is an idiot black guy people call him T who’s been there for 20 years. He trains in MMA floor , his behaviour towards beginners absolutely disgusting he is rude ,nasty , disturbing, disrespectful the way talk, he tell people what to do which is nothing to do with him , he is no one there and he thinks he is the boss of everyone. surprisingly Steve the owner supporting him no matter what happens just because T is long time member . Or maybe Steve is just a coward scared . Steve doesn’t care about how members treating each other he always supports members who been there for long time, Steve is very money oriented all care about is money and he is unfair person which is shame really. Remember if you are new there and have arguments with someone it will be always you fault no matter what. I still have a month membership left but I won’t be going back there ever to avoid trouble and see ugly T also to avoid Steve’s unfairness.. If you looking for peaceful and quiet place for training without any trouble then avoid this place.
