Negative experience: I decided to spend a weekend in this hotel for my wedding anniversary. I had booked a double executive room. And I got room no. 44 Accommodation: Our room had a view of the roof full of air ducts from the kitchen and swimming pool, from which there was constant noise and smell. I have stayed in many hotels, but I have never had such small beds, the hand shower in the bathroom did not work, there was mold in the corners of the shower. Leisure center: The water in the pool had not been changed for at least a year, the color was cloudy, the floor around the pool was dirty and damaged, the hot tub was out of order, empty and the service worker told me that it had been broken for a long time. The showers, saunas and changing rooms were fine. Food: We had a delicious dinner, served on hot plates, the service was pleasant and prompt, but the cutlery was dirty with fingerprints. After a complaint, the service immediately replaced it. This happened both evenings. We ordered a hot breakfast, but it was brought to us already cold and dry. It was definitely pre-prepared at least 1 hour before serving. This happened both mornings. This hotel has invested in modernization, but in small details it is run-down and neglected. I will definitely not return here and I will not recommend it to my friends.

Positive experience: Extremely slow service in the restaurant waited 30mins for our finished plates to be cleared !

Fantastic experience: Stayed here for a couple of nights. Spacious room with super king size bed. spotlessly clean. Food was superb. Good selection of meals on the menu. Breakfast couldn’t be faulted. Continental buffet and full Scottish breakfast. Staff are very professional, friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Work so well together as a team and evident they are all passionate about their roles in hospitality. Customer service was second to none. Will certainly be back.

Negative experience: Our friends were not given the room that they had booked. The room they were given was much smaller and in need of some attention.

Fantastic experience: Had an overnight stay with some friends. We all felt the experience was excellent. Customer service was excellent. The food was excellent. The hotel was very clean and in a quiet part of Ayr overlooking the sea. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel in a central position looking over the sea. Staff couldn't be more accommodating, with room choice, advice and general helpfulness. Special shout out to the receptionist who was fantastic!! Food was great too and really couldn't fault a thing.

Fantastic experience: Had an overnight stay in a very large immaculately clean double bedroom with a huge bay window framing a lovely sea view The en suite was also spotless with a state of the art shower Overall...a well equipped room with everything you needed......the only downside ....bed mattress a bit too hard and would have liked bigger fluffier pillows ( but that's our own personal preference) The staff from ...reception..dining.....and breakfast were amazingly friendly, helpful....and super attentive without being intrusive.......a big thank you to you all.......Will definitely return and highly recommend.......well done to the chef.......food was first class......the choices and presentation were first class

Negative experience: Highly disappointed in our stay. We booked an executive suite , not sure what level we got but it wasn’t what was advertised, pictured, and paid for. We checked in and room wasn’t ready so went about our day activities to come back and given a room that was tiny. It had a tiny bath and bed. Worse part was the bed was so bad we couldn’t sleep. Miserable experience. I did try talk to management about the switch and rip off but they refused to talk to our local friends and wouldn’t respond to emails. Be careful as these people are dishonest. Selling you one thing and delivering much much less while taking your money.

Positive experience: Really enjoyed my stay here. I was in a room on the top floor though. The floor boards creaked and I was conscious of the noise when walking about, but other than that... really good. Great location for the beach and sight seeing.

Negative experience: Room was freezing at night. Heating was off. Shower was like warm. Bed comfortable. Room spotless. Breakfast was fine. Restaurant had amazing views, very bright with morning sunshine. Really need to sort the shower in room. But overall really nice hotel.

Fantastic experience: Had some afternoon drinks and an evening meal - it was very good and the staff were delightful.

Negative experience: Breakfast was advertised from 7am, and I rang to confirm this as we needed to leave early to get the ferry. It was confirmed on the phone and there was a sign at the reception desk with the breakfast times. However on arrival we were told breakfast would not be served until 8am and no refund would be forth coming. We had pre paid for bed and breakfast. The receptionist said he would speak to the manager about it, and come back to is. We have emailed the hotel directly and have heard nothing back. Very disappointed by this.

Fantastic experience: I arranged a celebration of life at the Fairfield House Hotel for my Gran, and want to recognise the staff for delivering a really lovely afternoon for the family. Communication was excellent (thank you Nicola and Jennifer), no request was too much trouble, even though I had to update numbers and dietary requirements several times. They even let us use a speaker and large screen free of charge, so we could play my gran's favourite music, and have a carousel of photos playing on the TV. I thought the 'afternoon tea' package was great value, with sandwiches, cakes, scones, etc and special shout out for the delicious sausage rolls and very nice coffee. All dietary requirements were catered for correctly. Staff were on hand to help me set up the speaker and TV screen without difficulty. After the wider family left, later in the afternoon, we sat on the outdoor terrace and toasted my gran in the sunshine, looking out to the sea and telling stories. Despite it being a sad occasion, it really was a lovely afternoon. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fairfield House Hotel for similar events/occasions.

Positive experience: This hotel is in a beautiful location. The exterior looks well kept and has a certain presence. The main checkin area is a traditional dark oak affair, not everyone is going to like it but we thought it suited the building. We stay in the Burns room. Its a great size with an en-suite atop a small stair case 5 steps. The whole hotel is nicely decorated but staring to look tired is some areas. Our en-suite was lovely but it was disappointing to see black mold/mildew and the top of one wall above picture rail height looked like it had been forgotten. We had a 2 night stay and the room was as well made the second day as it was the first. Checking in was a breeze. Very friend and helpful. We appreciate the bar staff who were friendly and helpful and the overnight staff member was excellent happy to serve us when asked until we went to bad at 130am. Breakfast was OK disappointing the the full Scottish breakfast did not have lawn sausage. The second evening in the bar was also little disappointing a different night staff member not so polite or helpful, when we asked for a last night cap at 11.45 a stern no the bar is closed was the reply. A shame really as everyone else had been so polite and helpful. So a lovely hotel needs an update and one member of staff who need maybe a little more training or a new career.

Fantastic experience: The room (deluxe double) was a bit grey and dowdy - needs some decoration for sure. But the service and food were both excellent! The Shetland horses were in the field out our bedroom window!

Positive experience: Nice Hotel close to the Ayr Beach. Very Child friendly. The bar room has many free extras like shampoo or shower gel, but also hot chocolate, tea, coffee and even free cookies which get refilled daily. The pool seems a bit outdated but is very well maintained and totally sufficient. Our room was recently refurbished with a modern spacious bathroom but still with a classic look throughout the room. Dinner in the restaurant was solid, but we decided to eat outside on 2 of 4 nights. The reason for 4 stars is mainly the breakfast. We had it once. Although there were plenty of options like cornflakes or toast, we found the price of 15 GBP a bit too pricey considering that the full Scottish breakfast which they offered was kind of boring and most of the things were really dry and/or unseasoned. Overally we would recommend the hotel for its location, the good service and the cleanliness and would come again.

Fantastic experience: Had mine and my wife’s wedding here last week and couldn’t fault them Rooms are great, food is amazing and Lynsey Watts and Michael the wedding CO done everything and more for us on the day and beyond. Small mixup with the bill when checking which is being resolved but that would not stop us going back. We will deffo be and lots of our family will too and they all had an amazing time

Positive experience: We had a good stay at this hotel. Excellent value for money. Think we had an upgrade to a king size bed. Shower power was great with easy to use taps. We were only staying one night so we only cared about the bed and the shower and the Fairfield delivered. It also has a great location for the town and the train station. The carpet was a bit frayed but not in a dangerous way, for those that think decorations are important in a hotel stay.

Fantastic experience: On arrival, we discovered that the accessible room we had been allocated required access by lift, which was unsuitable for my mum. Staff were first class and swiftly switched things around to accommodate us in a ground floor room. All staff we encountered were friendly and professional and checked to see that everything was okay for us. Lovely food, perfect location and we had a lovely, relaxed stay. Would highly recommend!

Positive experience: The room was excellent and had nice partial sea views, The staff were very friendly, The evening meal was excellent, the full Scottish breakfast was terrible, different cooks perhaps, the bacon and link sausage was undercooked, the potato scone was rock hard and overcooked, I was asked what egg I wanted? I asked for a runny yoke egg, it was hard like rubber, my wife's vegetarian Scottish breakfast was similar, rock hard potato scone and her poached egg was like rubber. Such a shame, would I go back? yes if they hired a chef who can cook a decent breakfast.

Fantastic experience: We loved this hotel. The staff were really helpful and friendly, probably best staff we've met. Booking in was easy. We had theTurnberry Suite and it was huge. Big comfy bed and squashy pillows. Bathroom was also big. Double size shower and enormous bath. Plenty of hot water. Iron, kettle with tea, coffee etc. Room clean. Food was really good, I have dietary problems and it was sorted easily. Food cooked to order. Breakfast had great choices of cooked meals and a continental breakfast bar. The spa is good, small steam room and sauna. Jacuzzi not working, but we knew that. Pool was lovely and warm.People have said hotel is dated, but it is lovely and clean throughout and we prefer it much more than bulk standard boring square boxy rooms. Hotel 2 minutes walk to long sandy beach and arcades and cafes. Town centre 5 minutes.

Fantastic experience: Simply an excellent lunch for three people in a modernised ground floor restaurant, with a perfect view across the lawn and out over the sea to Arran? We were so impressed that we enquired about booking rooms for next March (2026). Because the bedrooms are due to undergo refurbishment from Jan2026, they are not currently taking advance bookings. Fair enough! We visited on Monday 17MAR2025. We WILL be back.

Positive experience: Second visit to this hotel. We got a fantastic price for our two nights stay (January). Lovely large rooms, some with sea view. Spotlessly clean and all staff were exceptionally friendly and and absolutely nothing was a bother to all of them. The food was tasty and well presented. We will be back, for sure. It has a seafront position and the town centre is only 5 -10 minutes walk Plenty of parking spaces. It's a peaceful environment and guests can have use of the gym and leisure facilities. The only small point I would make, is I think the reception area is a little drab and dull, with dark carpet, dark wood and dark brown sofas. It certainly won't stop me from going back

Fantastic experience: Went for a two day break with my mum . Lovely big room, friendly and efficient staff. Great choice for dinner and breakfast and food was delicious. Great location as you can walk to the shops in about 15 minutes, faster if you're used to walking. Only a few minutes walk from Ayr beach. The pool and health suite is small and doesn't match the modern decor of the hotel but it is adequate when you're only staying a couple of nights. I'd definitely go back.

Positive experience: Rooms outdated, we been given a room outside main body of hotel, almost like a side cottage with 2 rooms. Carpets old, doors bit wonky to the point my 5 year old struggling to open outside door. The room had a shower and tub with jets (not working). Im 6 ft3 at night going to the toilet. I have hit my head to the door header as it's too low. Obviously, in the daytime, i unconsciously lean in, but at night, I did not see that. 2nd day brekfast had hair inside poached egg. So, one out of two breakfasts wasn't ideal. Restaurant staff friendly, however reception both lady did not seem very welcoming.

Peter Clark 1 year ago

Positive experience: Overall a good stay, however I was disappointed with the fact that the window did not open, which I reported to reception, to be told a handyman would come and take a look - which never happened. I was also disappointed with the restaurant, when you pay £35 for a steak, you expect a decent meal, instead what came out was a very small overcooked piece of meat, The sauteed greens were in fact just two pieces of broccoli, and the fries were cold and flaccid. I complained to the service staff, to be told 'ay, sorry about that' but no more was done. I know better than to send food back to a kitchen, so I left it at that, but you should really work on your food quality and quantity. However the hotel itself was nice, The room was good, and the location was ideal for my needs.

Fantastic experience: Top quality hotel, overlooking the beach & esplanade. Large clean bedroom, with a lift to upper floors. Dining conservatory serving delicious meals & a nice bar area.

Kent Brodie 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very disappointed in our stay. We reserved an expensive deluxe sea view room. Instead of a lovely view of the sea, we basically had to keep our curtains closed the entire time due to hotel construction workers on the roof literally outside the front of our window. On the morning of our second day and time to check out, we were greeted by a shower that only delivered scalding hot water making taking a shower impossible. So these two days of a longer trip were pretty much ruined. When we checked out the desk agent did not even bother to ask how our stay was. Between the broken shower and ZERO notice about the construction, I doubt I will ever return here.

Brian Anderson 1 year ago

Negative experience: Leisure facilities. Fairwell to my friends in the changing room. I will miss your wit and wisdom. I will miss less the pool which is busy with 5 swimmers and the jacuzzi which has been off for years. I will not miss the little gym with its twichers rugrats and wfb. I've trained all over Scotland London and the EU and the Fairfieldexperience is the worst.

Positive experience: Lovely staff, Nicola at the front desk is so knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The breakfast is very good, served hot and again the staff are warm, friendly, efficient The rooms are large and have huge windows with a great view. The food is yum, we ate many meals at the on-site restaurant. It's one of the few hotels in the area with a pool and sauna, which our family loved. Lots to do nearby. Free parking. The bed situation for four was not great a double, and a pullout for one meant we put pillows on the floor to create a 4th sleeping space for our child. The hotel is being upgraded, which is nice, but it means some scaffolding and water heater outages. We really enjoyed this hotel and the love breakfast, highly reco. We will return.

Fantastic experience: My friend and I stayed here overnight. Room was very clean, lovely big bathroom, beds were comfy, I only took a star off the room score as the view out window was not great, looked onto a flat roof. When we arrived we went to the pool( I cannot swim but enjoy being in the water) Liam the staff member was really nice gave us towels & also gave me a float as he saw me " practising" really good of him. Staff were all lovely, Breakfast was amazing, the choice was best I think I've ever seen in a UK hotel cold & hot selection, loved the ramikins of fresh fruit, the hams, pastries, cheeses, wee pots of jam it really was lovely, & the lady who took our order was very nice( maybe the restaurant manager??, blonde hair, black dress) We also spoke with the housekeeper who was cleaning the rooms the day we left, lovely girl & hope she got the tip we left for her. A great stay & we will be back.

Negative experience: Booked superior and family rooms tried contacting them over the phone as we had a family wedding nearby and we’re booking over 10 rooms in total. Staff were not interested kept telling us to book online. Our 2 rooms were in different parts of the hotel my room had a bathroom sized window and looked onto trees so no daylight and we were having make up artist etc coming to help us get ready. There was no hot water in the sink taps. Don’t think I will recommend or go back

Positive experience: I booked a last minute overnight for my hubby, daughter, and me. £125 B&B for an "executive family room" is an OK price. Check-in was quick and easy. The girl behind the desk was lovely. The room, however, has seen better days. Know I understand that with it being a family room, you are bound to get some scuffs and scrapes, but at least try and hide them. The decor is dated. The room, however, is massive. the beds were comfy. TV we personally think should be on the wall in this day and age. We didn't ask to move rooms because the room was actually clean. Staff are very friendly. Views from the bar are top notch (especially in the sun). Bar prices are typical prices - 2 pints £12 odds. Great selection on the contential buffet & hot buffet, too. Breakfast was lovely. My husband would like to return to try the dinner, so I guess we will be back.

Positive experience: The rooms gelt a wee bit dated, however they were comfortable enough. The bar area and the restaurant were lovely and the staff were friendly enough. No issues her.

Amy Rock 1 year ago

Negative experience: Overall a disappointing stay. The room was small, dark and dated. There was no mirror in the room (room 4), which was not ideal when attending a wedding. The bed was very uncomfortable and left us feeling achy following our stay. The breakfast was very poor and regretted not going elsewhere for breakfast. The bathrooms are newly done and look lovely however the shower turns itself off to regulate the temperature mid-shower.

Negative experience: I am not usually someone who would write a review however the complaint I have sent to the hotel has been ignored and therefore I feel the need to post. I was bought a gift from my parents which was a voucher. (We have used many vouchers before elsewhere and not come accross this) the room would have been ok if the carpet had been relayed prior to our entry. Everywhere else was fine but this just put me off the use of swimming facilities/ restaurant and we left the nect day after an overnight at 8am. I had already had a drink and could not drive. I should have asked to be moved at the time however this had been a gift and did no want to make a fuss. I think the lack of apology from reception when complaint was made and also since the complaint being sent to “management” is ridiculous. The carpet in room 47 should definitely be replaced and nobody should be placed in this room until it has been done. The food at dinner was also not great. No seasoning, tasteless. I would not recommend.

Alex R 2 years ago

Positive experience: Nice rooms, and nice location. It's situated a stone throw from the beach. The meat breakfast was good according to my meat eating partner, but no vegan cooked breakfast on the menu, just vegetarian. They might have helped with that if I asked, but I didn't. Most hotels don't offer vegan breakfast options (other than the help yourself stuff which has cross contamination issues) so I usually prep ahead of time and bring something anyway, so it didn't affect me. But just something to keep in mind if that's something that you're looking for specifically.

Positive experience: Had a one night, sauna, dinner and breakfast deal. Room was quite large with a sofa bed (not shoved against a wall a change). Pool and sauna were very good. Heating hadn't been turned on in our room sadly, but was warm by the time we got back from the pool. Restaurant service good, but suspect they were under staff. Full Scotish was a little underwhelming, go for the eggs royal instead. Plenty of continental 'grub' to add to the Scottish. Visit worth repeating.

Positive experience: Was a single day visit. Furniture ant decor somewhat dated, as is the hotel in general. Staff were helpful and courteous, and there were plenty of them around. Car parking is a bit restricted if there are a few cars.

Positive experience: Lovely setting. Staff friendly and helpful. Food delicious. 4* hotel but a couple of things let it down. Stayed in a suite. It was tired and in need of some tlc. The jacuzzi wasn't working when we stayed, apparently had been broken "for a few weeks"

Negative experience: Went in for coffee and cake. We asked what the cakes were.. Barman mentioned cheesecake.. So we ordered that... Didnt realise it was a dessert.. We were charged over the odds for an extremely small cheesecake and the tiniest blob of cream. This hotel will try and squeeze as much as possible out of people.

Fantastic experience: Christmas party night - a wee bit difficult to get confirmation of start time. Food service at Christmas party night typical of that type of night but food wasn't. It was really good. As was breakfast the next day. The service at breakfast was excellent. Any staff that we encountered on our break were lovely and were helpful. We had a suite - room 48. It was spacious, bed was great and we had two tellies. What's not to like! Could maybe do with a wee bit cosmetic attention but nothing that would spoil anyone's break. Didn't use any spa facilities while here so can't comment on that.

Fantastic experience: The lovliest weekend at the fairfield. Room soory suite was beautiful as was the luxurious en suite. Food was great..fabulous breakfast options as well as evening meals. Short walk to the beach+town centre. No 1 thing that made our stay was the staff front receptionist was outstanding, had a wee hiccup with a balloon+banner but it made our weekend+we would like to thank them all very much.

Fantastic experience: Just had a brilliant family overnight. The children loved the proximity to the beach and the playpark. The swimming pool was lovely and warm. The sauna and steam room were great too. Breakfast was one of the best we have had. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room we had was fabulous. A walk in shower and a huge bath. The beds were comfortable and the room was extremely quiet. We highly recommend coming here and will be back soon!

Fantastic experience: We stayed for three nights in this beautiful hotel. All of the staff were lovely. The facilities (pool, hot tub, and sauna) were great. The restaurant had some of the best food I have had in a long while. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Positive experience: Some of the spaces and rooms are a bit tired looking but the owners are renovating. Our bedroom was bright, clean and comfortable. The bar has everything you would expect with friendly staff. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and good food.

Positive experience: Both my friend & I have mobility issues, which we clearly informed the hotel of beforehand, more than once. We both have spinal issues and my friend has also just recovered from successful hip surgery. The room we were told was best for us (No 55) must've been the furthest away from the reception, pool & restaurant! Thankfully there was a lift, but there were also lots of heavy fire doors in between. Not easy when one needs crutches to walk, and the other uses a stick. Our bathroom had a walk-in shower which in itself was fine, but NO grab rails in the shower or bathroom to hold on to. The toiletries provided were lovely. Another major issue was that the 2 beds appeared to be on wheels. My friend stumbled getting up, the bed moved away, causing her to fall onto the floor. Due to our mobility issues, it was quite awkward getting her back up again, plus she'd hurt her knee & back too. Our room was quite warm, and we were extremely grateful for the fan provided and the right hand window that opened. The left hand window had been nailed shut, with the nails very clearly showing. We were also concerned with health & safety in the case of a fire. For two disabled people, this room was extremely unsuitable. The actual decor was OK in itself, although we felt a bit like we'd been stuck in the attic. The room felt oppressive as there wasn't much daylight got in, due to the sloped ceilings. Both our beds dipped in the middle, giving us an uncomfortable 2 nts sleep. The lamps, and walls behind them, were quite dusty. The bathroom only had one small glass shelf. They could've done with another shelf as there was literally nowhere to keep our toiletry bags, meaning you had to put the toilet seat down and use that instead. Taking them in & out each time with you. Being an older building, there seemed to be a lot of doors banging, and floors constantly creaking. The floors creaked loudly even from the room next door! We were B+B. Our orders were quite mixed up on the first morning plus no-one explained about the cereal/toast/cold drinks area. We were only asked if we'd like tea or coffee and that was it. It wasn't immediately noticeable due to room dividers. It would make sense to seat 'less able' clientele closer to that area, since it can be quite tedius when you only have one free hand to carry things! Second morning we were served by a very cheerful & friendly lady this time, although still weren't told about the cereal/toast area. We'd worked that out for ourselves from the previous day. (top marks to the chef for my extra mushrooms!) The disabled parking wasn't great. Only ONE space, and numerous blue badge holders, making it a hit or miss whenever you returned. Being a RAD customer, and living locally, this stay was a treat for my friends birthday. She'd travelled down from Glasgow. Having stayed in quite a few of the RAD hotels, I felt this one let us down. It's listed as a 4* hotel. I felt it was more 2* B+B. Considering I've had stays in other RAD hotels, and also Seamill Hydro (definetely a 4* hotel) and far superior, for less than I paid for this stay, we felt quite let down, and disappointed. It put a damper on what should've been a celebration. There needs to be some 'proper' accessible rooms for less able customers. I'm not sure how a wheelchair user would cope in this hotel, which is quite sad, as the location is really good. The staff (esp Nicola on reception) are indeed an asset & a credit to the RAD Group. I do think an overview on accessibility needs to be done to encourage older/less able (I'm 58) clientele to return. Otherwise we'd just stay in Travelodges, which are perfectly accessible and much cheaper too.

Fantastic experience: This place was gorgeous and I suggest upgrading to one of the nicer rooms, while buildings get old and harder to maintain my only complaint was the mold in some areas of the hotel and one of the rooms my inlaws had. However! It's fun to walk the maze of halls and to hang out at the bar, we got there super late and one guy was running the desk and bar and whatever else needed tending to, it was clear he was busting his behind and had a great attitude while doing it which made our night.

Positive experience: Lovely location, gorgeous rooms! The only thing I'd say is the radiator is constantly on in the bathroom, so it gets very warm in there and that the walls are very thin between the rooms so you can hear other guests coversations very clear.
