Citadel Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great. Gym
Negative experience: Fed up of members of the gym asking me to show them how to use the equipment. I do not work there! But when I look for someone who does they are nowhere to be seen. Or when I bring it to their attention I get a funny look from the staff. Hire more gym instructors so us paying members do not get bothered.
Fantastic experience: Clean
Positive experience: Because when my kids go in there self the lifeguards are always so rude all because they didn’t know how to tell the Time but other than that the pool is pretty good and clean☺️
Fantastic experience: This place is amazing all the staf is lovely and the prices are reasonable
Fantastic experience: Ok
Positive experience: Needs work, but good facilities
Negative experience: Unfortunately people shave inside the sauna and the lazy staff or administration don’t take it serious and they are not strict against such dicusgusting behaviour. It makes it just a dirty place for others.
Positive experience: I'm not a fan of it that much
Negative experience: Very unimpressed, no cafe and coffee machine wasn’t working only vending machines what swallowed £2 without giving drink and then the receptionist couldn’t even give £2 back or open the machine as no keys all she suggested was to phone number on the machine
Fantastic experience: Very nice
Fantastic experience: Just went to donate blood.Appeared very clean and leisure staff very friendly as I waited in line to donate.
Fantastic experience: Great place, we love it, pool good and not cold
Negative experience: Visited the sauna this week after having not been in for some time I used to visit on a dailly basis,I thought I would go and relax,i found it to be the opposite experience the place is disgusting now. Everything dirty and rusty and falling to bits to the point where i was even getting hit with bits of the jaccuzi filter floating in it. I actually felt like i might catch something using the place. And It clearly says no shaving in the spa area but i'm sure a blind eye is turned to the "regular" but I dont really want to be sitting having a sauna and there's a guy sitting shaving. Its only saving grace was it was only £4 to get in. Dirty, filthy and not fit for purpose oh and 1 more thing using pee filters meant for urinals in the steam room and sauna!!!!
Negative experience: The kids pool seems to be for grown up men hanging about themselves now and not just for small children
Negative experience: Cant call the place without a 10 minute hold, even though you are apparently “number 1 in the que”
Fantastic experience: Love it
Fantastic experience: Good facilities, friendly staff and very reasonable prices.
Negative experience: One sauna is barely warm and the slightly better sauna is now closed, along with the steam room. This is really disappointing and I will be cancelling my membership if it does not re open shortly
Negative experience: One sauna is freezing and has needed looked at for a very long time. The other “good” sauna lined with black mould is now out of order with the steam room. Cancelled my membership due to this. Shame on SAC.
Negative experience: Steam room has been broken for over 5 weeks, the 1 good sauna is now broken. The other sauna which has been broken for years is useless. You would be better sitting in your living room with the heating on. I made the mistake of calling SAC to find out when the facilities will be fixed to get attitude and A vague answer of “soon”. Older gents openly shaving in the public areas knowingly breaking the rules just tips it all off. The place is a riot. Cancelled my membership. I don’t think this place could be managed worse.
Fantastic experience: Excellent parking, easy disabled access
Negative experience: really disappointed with citadels facility’s, been going for a few months now every time i turn up something within the leisure centre is broke for example the steam room has been out of order for over 5 weeks now, sauna broke 15 mins in today and cold plunge was poor, overall wish i could give 0 stars but that is not an option.
Negative experience: Information incorrect on website. Staff unhelpful.
Positive experience: It's good for what it is , the kids love it the water is always warm
Fantastic experience: Great place. Full of maddies
Negative experience: Took my son to the gym for the first time and the bench collapsed which the 75kg bar fell on my sons neck which nearly killed him also when i was leaving a group of youths tried to highjack my car.
Positive experience: Everything is okey but too busy. Also when its busy pool gets dirty easily. Need to check all the time the pool.
Negative experience: The saunas are full of mould, the steam room has some cracked tiles and the state of the showered are just terrible, never worth £20 a month, wouldn’t even go back if it was free, no had a makeover in 15 years, and the jacuzzi is the coldest one I’ve ever been in
Positive experience: Superb for all ages
Fantastic experience: I go to the wheel chair football every Tuesday night and am made very welcome, the facilities are very good.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming pool and gym and once a month the antiques ferry on
Positive experience: Went to an antique fair
Fantastic experience: Attended for my Winter vaccines so didn't use the sports facilities but can clearly see it is a great leisure facility.
Positive experience: Good parking. Used the health suite. Only complaint is changing room very small and no cubicles. Staff nice and friendly rest facilities there are great when visiting lockers require 50p returnable deposit. Also really liked that you could just pay for health suite as I am not able to really make use of the pool due to disability at present. On disability front they have loads of disabled parking bays.
Fantastic experience: Clean and spacious, with brilliant & friendly support staff from the lifeguards to the reception
Positive experience: The Bounce & Play sessions over the summer holidays have been great for the wee ones. I do feel for the staff in between sessions though, at times having to run around cleaning up the hula hoops and tangy toms strewn across the floor from the kids who can't seem to go an hour without fumbling around a playcentre floor struggling to shove corn snacks in their mouths. Toilets were lovely and clean and staff are delightful.
Positive experience: Definitely not disabled friendly
Fantastic experience: Nice sized pool and not too busy. Staff were great.
Fantastic experience: very friendly group and needed exercises
Negative experience: Please update your website info as it states Flexi-Pool is set at 1.2m for general swim times. This was not the case today and was 0.9m. Too shallow for my 10 year old to enjoy a swim but confined to a very small corner of big pool instead. The reason we came today was for more space in the flexi pool as he has ASN and last time we visited, the small corner (rest of pool is blocked off for lane swimming) was too busy with other kids/adults and we left early. Or please consider sessions specifically for ASN I cannot see any on your website. Thank you
Positive experience: Wrong drinks in the machines but other than that okay
Fantastic experience: Great place had a lovely time at the comic con.
Positive experience: Kids swimming lessons on a Sunday morning.
Positive experience: We go to an antique fair once a month. End every month.Really enjoy it. It's different every month. Worth a visit
Positive experience: Clean and staff where great. Though i do miss the cafe
Fantastic experience: Gym, sauna, steam room, activity halls, and a pool. Sunday inflatable fun run good for the kids.
Fantastic experience: Lots to offer. Clean and friendly.
Negative experience: First time visiting citadel and will be the last. Dirty run down from the outside and worse inside. The sauna area is the worst, floors filthy, odd smell and shower areas bad. You have to walk up back stairs to get to pool, freezing area and again dirty floors. Ceiling tiles broken and missing.we paid £18 for 2 adults swim and sauna. Expensive and not worth it. Only good thing was staff, they were friendly and helpful. Prestwick has a nice pool and newly refurbished changing rooms and new gym, worth the effort to go there.
Positive experience: Been visiting the Citadel Leisure Centre now for about a month, purely for Swimming so I can't comment on any of the other facilities. Its not the worst centre I've been to and could possibly do with some money spending on it. The pool is of a decent size and the water is clean, if you've got goggles on I wouldn't advise looking at the bottom of the pool as there's debris and stains for far enough. But I suppose which pool doesn't of this age. The staff are very polite and helpful, haven't tried drowning yet so don't know f the Lifeguards are up to the task...but I'm sure they are.
Fantastic experience: Staff very nice and helpfully. Class teacher very understanding of different needs. Full class makes everybody feel relaxed and smile, banter great.
Positive experience: We were really only at the Citadel to try out the swimming pool. As a disabled person, swimming is the only way I can excercise now. First off, the entry charge seemed quite expensive in comparison to other Ayrshire swimming venues (more than double!). Not all the lockers were in working order. Most of the keys had burst wristraps. Plus it wasnt very clear that it wasn't a £1 coin, but indeed a 50p coin, that was needed for the lockers. I can usually enter a pool via steps, but the Citadel only had wall ladders, so I then had to request that one of the pool guards help me, by operating the special 'mobility' chair to put me into the water. For a disabled person, this can actually be quite embarrassing. Thankfully it wasn't too busy on this occasion. The water itself was extremely 'cool', and quite unpleasant as time went on. We couldn't wait to get out & under the hot showers. Although this experience wasn't brilliant, it in no way reflects the helpfulness & friendliness of the staff. Before we had even travelled 12 miles to the Citadel, we phoned the website tele no to ask about disabled access. It was obv not a direct line, but a 'central' info line. The person on the end of that line couldn't give me the accessibility info that I needed. They didn't know the Citadel building personally so really couldn't help me. Safe to say, it doesn't look like we'll be back on a regular basis for our swimming at Ayr
Positive experience: Great swimming pool and staff are always happy to help.
Positive experience: Great for families
Fantastic experience: Throughly enjoyed it .bit busy in. Morning but still plenty of equipment
Negative experience: Swimming pool and changing rooms are absolutely disgusting, staff are rude! AVOID!!!
Positive experience: Nice centre but no information leaflets on swiming times or classes without going online and no discounts to encourage over 55s or staff members to join or off peak time discounts.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous range of activities. Comfortable activities rooms for classes. Good instructors. Considerable scope to switch to use of more renewable energy in heating and lighting the centre.
Fantastic experience: Great place, a real good place for Ayr. It should always be there.
Positive experience: Antique fair on Sat 28th Jan Next one Feb 25th. Great stalls. Very interesting
Fantastic experience: The antique fair is great. Lots of interesting and varied merchandise. Looks like a happening place.
Positive experience: I attended a "vaccine clinic " , it was very proficient.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place and good for kids
Fantastic experience: Great local resource with a magnificent games hall. A bit tired all round but could easily be improved
Positive experience: Excellent facilities, especially the gym, pool & health suite. Looking forward to the Upgrade in facilities. Keep away the delusional politicians and greedy developers that want to knock it down. Ayr, a toon full of bonny lassies and honest men!
Negative experience: Not good at all . Viewing gallery like a sauna very dirty . Poor choice in vending machines. Be as well knocking it down and starting over .
Negative experience: Absolutely shocking firstly went to purchase a swim vest none on sale then went to get some refreshments no cafe went to vending machine on 2nd floor all empty down more steps found them went to 2nd floor sat on seat at the big window could not see over the barrier then went to viewing gallery no ventilation place is dirty come on SAC you can do better than this I was against a new pool being built but after today sadly disappointed only good thing is the swimming pools no wonder its empty .time to get into the 21st century.
Positive experience: Reasonably priced, great facilities all round, lovely staff from front desk thru to instrutors. Complete refurbishment required throughout to bring it up to date.
Positive experience: Not very impressed most stalls the same need to get a variety.
Negative experience: Absolute dump.... either needing knocked down or revamped. If you're looking to shed some weight, just sit in the viewing gallery.....no ventilation whatsoever with enough heat to cook a chicken! The fumes of chlorine from the pool also burns the life out of your eyes. Not a good leisure centre at all
Fantastic experience: Easy parking and access
Fantastic experience: Antique fair is on today until 4.00 pm
Negative experience: The cafe was replaced with another gym. Like many things in Ayr it's outdated, the space isn't utilised as it should be. The spectator area not spectator friendly and a pretty terrifying experience with a toddler
Fantastic experience: went for a boxing tournament, was great fun
Fantastic experience: Never been to the citadel was there for the kick boxing nice leisure centre with a decent swimming pool and plenty parking nearby as well as at the centre
Positive experience: Got my Spring booster very efficient..
Fantastic experience: The staff are always friendly and so helpful. The only thing lacking is the crèche facilities that they use to offer and the flumes. But apart from that there is nothing wrong with it. The fact that the plans for it to be moved and where its moving to, well the plans for that are shocking shame on south Ayrshire council once again for not listening to their residents. We need family facilities not facilities for single people or people without children. They have designed the new one without children in mind but to be fair what else can be expected from south Ayrshire council
Fantastic experience: Fantastic,to be knocked down? Why?
Negative experience: Brilliant we need to keep the citadel open at all costs brilliant place and brilliant staff
Positive experience: A bit tired, but they should do it up
Fantastic experience: My friend and I use the gym 2/3 times a week.Great equipment. Modern cardio machines etc. Love it
Positive experience: Went to covid vaccine centre for over 75 booster in the games hall. Long queue. Around 4pm Fri. Did not use facilities in the Leisure Centre.
Fantastic experience: Got covid vaccine well organised.
Positive experience: We only went for a antique market but seemed well fitted out on our visit
Positive experience: Booster heaven, in and out jagged quicker than a junkie, no appointment.
Positive experience: Never knew it was so good.
Fantastic experience: It's nice place, and able to see Bethlehem if the weather is good.
Fantastic experience: Staff friendly, changing rooms clean. My son loves his swimming lessons here :)
Fantastic experience: Well organised layout for COVID safety where possible.
Positive experience: Very enjoyable and beneficial class for seniors.
Positive experience: I attend a seniors keep fit and it is very good. Helps with balance co-ordination we have an 2 instructors 1 takes the class and the other watches intently checking that no one is any danger of harming themselves. They have also just introduced a monthly subscription of £20 per month which gets you into numerous exercise classes gym swimming etc.
Negative experience: Not much to see really, but a good place to take photos of the kids climbing and sitting on the cannon.
Fantastic experience: Great centre with a top gym. The staff are very friendly and supportive
Positive experience: Is a great place where to go to enrolled yourself in sports. They have wonderful swimming pool for everyone for adults and children. As well as a range of activities for children.
Negative experience: Good staff but not enough of them in pandemic.Staff ofton have very good social skills and are helpful.RE pandemic the need to cleaning gym equipment needs to be displayed prominently in all rooms used this is of paramount importance for service users cleaning down the gym equipment. More cleaning equipment and cleaning stations are needed and having wipes available may well encourage service users to clean equipment after use. Failure to properly publicise need to clean llequipment after use disappointing
Fantastic experience: Amazing first time back to the gym in years .Staff very pleasant and helpful and all the areas spotless
Positive experience: Unfortunately when I arrived for Jab, the line of people waiting outside was 150 yards long we were informed the wait was due to computer fault!! meaning we had to wait for 50mins for vaccination, lucky the weather was ok,the process was very well organized, well done the N.H.S.
Fantastic experience: Was in getting my 2nd covid vaccine, it was mobbed but very well run. Was only 10mins over my allotted time. Great !!!
Fantastic experience: Only open for vaccinations but everyone was friendly and the leisure centre was immaculate
Fantastic experience: Covid jab. Very well organised and friendly. Made me feel at ease.
