Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Nuffield Health Croydon Fitness & Wellbeing Gym: Opinions
Negative experience: I have been a member of this club for just under a year and It is one of the worst gyms I have used. My membership is nearly £60 per month and I feel like I've been conned. I have raised issues with the general manager and customer services and have been ignored and avoided by the general manager. Just on the customer service alone I would avoid this gym, however there are plenty of other reasons to! A key thing to know is that if you have any need to use the lift due to disability or mobility issue, the one here doesnt work and has been pretty much out of order for the whole time I have been a member. The equipment is out of date, nothing matches and thre gym is overall dirty. As a regular gym goer, there are quite a few things that are so basic that this gym fails at: Clips are ziptied to cable machines - this would be fine but no clips are matching in size and some are broken but ziptied so cant be swapped. This is both ridiculous and dangerous The attachements are cheap and basically bought from amazon. I had a handle snap while using it and could have really hurt myself. I complained and was basically ignored both by staff on shift and by management. Machines are often out of service for months - there are notes posted around the gym apologising for this, but nothing is ever done to rectify the situation. Treadmills often switch off when you are using them as having them all on 'trips the fuseboard' as described by a member of staff I have seen the fire service at the gym 5-6 times during my membership, and that just during the hour I go a day. According to the staff, the 'plant room often gets full of smoke' THATS MAD. There is one of each set of dumbells, one ez curl for the whole gym. There is only one abductor/adductor machine and one smith machine in the gym. There is often queues for both even in dead hours. The aircon often fails and the whole gym get ridiculously hot. I cant speak about the pool or sauna as I dont use them, but if the cleanliness is similar to the rest of the gym, you'd be best to avoid both! Honestly, dont join this gym. Its awful and ridiculously expensive
Negative experience: Gym facilities and sauna are brilliant however i joined to go to classes and they're always full. I have called and complained also emailed so I guess I will just leave .
Fantastic experience: The new stream room is a joy to behold! And a special mention for Joanna who was very kind and helpful on reception.
Negative experience: They never answer their phones Tried calling for days to speak with them Customer service experience is poor They need to address this as I have heard the same from others
Negative experience: For 70 odd pounds a month half the stuff doesn’t even work in the gym, facilities are equal to a leisure centre
Negative experience: When I joined they hadn't told me the jacuzzis had closed permanently which was just false advertising. I constantly get texts about the sauna or steam room facilities being closed. The drains in the shower rooms smell something horrid. Half the gym equipment needs servicing and the other half is just completely broken with no repairs on the horizon (the pull down bar weights are now going on 4 months without repair). They NEVER answer their phones, no matter what time of day you call. Now I'm locked into a year long contract which I can't even speak to anyone about ending or getting out of.
Negative experience: Decent sized gym with good classes in a good location, but the equipment is awful. Half of it is broken at any given time, and they take forever to get fixed. The stairmasters have been bust for over a year now, not good enough for how expensive it is.
Negative experience: It's crazy to me that Nuffield Health are pushing so much money into some clubs (Crawley Worth club) but completely ignoring this one. There are always multiple cardio machines not working, machines are dirty and they turned off the jacuzzi but increased membership prices! If you can try another Nuffield, this one is letting them down massively. Last time I was there I also witnessed a member of staff (off duty) in the gym arguing with a member! Very unprofessional.
Negative experience: Terrible for the price you pay. Half the equipment don’t work there is 2 step machines one has been broken for over a year and now the other one isn’t working. The sauna is always out of service it’s way overpriced
Negative experience: What is going on at this gym...it's a lovely big space in a good location but the maintenance of the equipment is a joke. I usually use the one in central Croydon but I was there last night and only 4 out of 8 cross trainers were in service, and only 1 exercise bike. They have 2 stepper machines, one of which has been broken for over a year and now the other one seems to have packed up too...fix/replace broken machines!
Negative experience: For the price wouldn’t recommend, the machines are old and half the time they’re out of service. Some of the staff are weird/rude, some are great it’s hit and miss with them. The gym is also very small in general so can’t imagine how busy it gets at peak times. For £72 it definitely seems like a stretch for what you receive. The sauna and steam room are also the size of a shoe box and the jacuzzi permanently closed. I’d genuinely pay £100 more per month to go to David Lloyd but I’m now roped into a 12 month contract. So once that’s done I’m goneeee
Negative experience: This gym has got gradually worse, dirty, old equipment, time for a change.
Negative experience: Update: after cancelling and receiving confirmation of my cancellation (I was on a monthly rolling contract only) Nuffield have now taken upon themselves to continue to demand payment of the monthly fee and have even appointed a debt collection agency over £45! Absolutely insane considering I had been thinking about requesting a refund myself for fees paid due to the lack of suitable services and equipment and false advertising. Appalling way to treat customers. Do not join this gym. I’ve ended up cancelling my membership due to: Closed jacuzzis despite not being informed of their permanent closure anywhere online before purchasing a membership Unhygienic female showers with mould and a smell of urine Broken clothes dryer on numerous occasions Faulty lockers Urine smell around the swimming pool Broken swimming pool heating Poorly maintained swimming pool with broken and missing tiles Broken gym machines without information of when they will be fixed Old and outdated gym machines particularly the cross trainers which are almost unusable due to the stiffness and clunkiness of the pedals Poor air conditioning in the gym resulting in it being too hot with an unpleasant smell General overcrowding at peak times Lack of parking spaces at peak times No available spaces at any time for aqua fit classes
Negative experience: This is a really poor Nuffield Health Gym. The duty manager has no empathy and does not care about customers. Due to needing to save money, as reference by their website and T and Cs emailed the club to cancel my rolling contract, which required one months notice. Over a month later I realised they were still taking payments and told that an email stating my notice is no longer enough and I need to fill out a form. I filled this out but asked if no further payments could be taken as I’ve already been charged for June and July since given my notice. The duty manager Philip Wiesel, was rude didn’t show any acknowledgement or appreciation of my situation, showed no empathy and just reiterates the I would be charged again for a service I’m not using in August. Really disappointed as I was still going to consider returning on the future. But with this service coupled with the fact the gym always has broken equipment, no catering for hybrid training, the pool is often very dirty, jacuzzi is no longer working and the showers and changing rooms are very dirty too, I can confirm I will never take out a gym membership with this awful company ever again. DO NOT sign up here, unless you want a really bad gym experience.
Negative experience: Ancient equipment
Fantastic experience: Always kind, and efficient staff willing to help and a good price for the gym.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of equipment and facilities. Usually not too busy during the day which is nice.
Fantastic experience: I don't think I've had better customer service ever. I can confirm that it was the best customer service from gym/health provision. They went out of their way to look after me and gave me pass for my short stay in Croydon. Genuine smiles, I felt the love. As for Alex and David. I wish there were more people like this.
Negative experience: Considering the cost, the overall aesthetics do not align. Old, dirty and equipment not working. For the monthly cost, I would expect so much more. Could do with an upgrade, definitely not worth the price.
Negative experience: Lack of professionalism from the lifeguard, not wearing the right shoes, and listening to music when on duty.
Negative experience: Great staff but long overdue a refit and ancient equipment, even a lick of paint will help such a shame it's a good size gym.
Negative experience: so frustrated. has been impossible to get booked in to the classes for months now. so many times the pilates booking opens under 24 hours before the class - meant to be 8 days. all the spaces are gone in 5 minutes when the list does open. get on the waiting list and occasionally a space becomes free minutes before the class and this counts as a no show - yet if I go to the gym in case a space becomes free they don’t allow access. i have spoken to reception numerous times who say nothing they can do and left messages on website with no response. pool access very limited as have so many classes and struggling to understand what I am getting for my membership fee. very unhappy
Negative experience: Jacuzzi stopped over 2yrs
Negative experience: One of member which name is Phillip Wiesel which don't know how to talk with customer I suggested to nuffield you should have member staff which respect to customer not Show aggression against customer He do very miss behaviour with me we come to nuffield because we think that the member staff are better then another gym in Croydon but if the member staff do miss behaviour like (Phillip Wiesel) I scerch soon another gym for my self
Negative experience: Fix your equipment. Most things are out of service and broken for months now !! Most handles on machines are ripped and broken. Also update equipment the machines are very outdated. Open up the jacuzzis you taking good money from us every month. I understand all of your Personal trainers train at KINGS gym but bring some of that kings gym inspiration to our club. Then cutting costs masked as environmental stuff by taking away tissue for us to wipe our sweat with.
Positive experience: I've been going to this gym for just over a year now. Regardless of which exercise I want to do, there is always a machine that i can use, I particularly like the spacious feeling in the rooms I use, e.g the main gym and the swimming pool. While there are a couple of grumpy (looking) staff members (I'm sure they would be nice if I intereracted with them), the majority of the team are excellent at making me feel welcome. Considering the activities and habits of some of the more 'disagreeable' gym users, I think the standard of hygiene at the gym, while on some days found to be wanting, is on average very good. I always look forward to going to the gym and the 'see you again soon' feeling I get as I leave. It is my responsibility, as much as that of the gym team, to have a great experience and I do my bit just as, I believe, most of the staff do - given the tough times we live in.
Negative experience: By far the worst Nuffield Health there is, and here’s why: Air con doesn’t work majority of the time All of the Equipment is old and rusty The weight machines are either broken, missing parts or accessories Water fountains barely work and when they do there’s water pressure problems There is only 2 squat racks There is not enough benches or free weight equipment (I turn up around 8/9pm to avoid peak hours and still sometimes struggle to get anything) If it wasn’t for my corporate discount and use of London City gyms I’d cancel my subscription immediately, hopefully they can give it some investment which it so desperately needs.
Fantastic experience: Love this gym. Great pool. Great classes.
Thanks for the lovely review and rating Kate. We are very pleased to read you are enjoying your club visits. Best regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Can't wait for my contract to finish. Nobody cares about the state of the gym or the members. Things are broken (the air conditioning now, the swimming pool in February, the machines in the weights area and water fountains a couple of months ago) and they still have the cheek to raise the price mid contract. The only answer you get from management is to go to Norbury or Merton instead. Ok then...
Hi Reena, thank you for this feedback and sorry for the impact these outages had on your club visits. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: I am currently a member. The gym is in a poor state of repair. Almost all the cardio machines are due replacement. The steppers and stair masters are particularly bad. The bearings are clearly worn the action is not smooth and half the equipment makes grinding or whining noises. The main Gym has non functioning air conditioning so it is sweltering. The men's changing room is like a borstal from the 1970s. The budget gyms have a much higher standard and quicker replacement of equipment. Nuffield need to sort out this gym! guganclrefurbishment.nodelayingrefuutherefurbishment
Hi Alexis, thanks for this feedback and apologies for any issues experienced during your workouts. We will continue to work closely with our service agent, to improve equipment repair times and member experience. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I joined this Gym over 6 weeks ago, and I am very impressed, the staff make you feel welcome and are always available to help. There is more then enough machines to use which is ideal.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely review. We are very pleased to read you are enjoying your club membership. Best wishes, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: I was willing to pay a premium price for a gym membership because I wanted a premium experience. Unfortunately, you won't get this from Nuffield. Something is ALWAYS broken. And to make matters worse, it will stay broken for months on end! At the end of my current membership, I will be looking elsewhere. This isn't worth the premium price tag.
Hi Faiz, thank you for this feedback and apologies for any issues experienced during your club visits. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Good gym but needs refit. Really good pool but pricey.
Thanks for the feedback and rating Christopher. Whilst there are no immediate plans for an equipment refresh, we will continue to work closely with our servicer, to improve repair times. We are sorry for any issues the current equipment has had on your planned workouts. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: A few things: 1. They increased my monthly fee mid-contract (they're allowed to, but such terrible behaviour) 2. They breached the terms of the contract by increasing my monthly fee and not giving me one month's notice. 3. A general lack of care for the place: broken equipment, water fountains not working properly (which the manager said when I signing up would be fixed shortly ). Although the cleaners do a fantastic job of keeping the changing rooms clean. 4. Sauna is more often 60-70 degrees than it is 80 degrees 5. Some of the staff are lovely and friendly, others are not friendly at all. In fact I never once got a "Hi" or "Good bye" from the manager. 6. Closing the jacuzzis, permanently. I'd suggest avoiding unless this is very easy for you to get to, or at least avoid being in a 12-month contract
Hi Alex, thanks for this feedback and apologies for any element of your club visits that were not to standard. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: This is a full honest review of Nuffield Croydon. This is my home gym and have been going here for about 6 months. As far as gyms go, this is a pretty standard gym with the added benefit of a pool. The issue lies with the quality of equipment, space, decor and cleanliness. The staff are friendly and like to chat with customers. One critic would be that they need to tell people who slam weights down to stop. It’ll stop equipment from getting damaged and creating a off putting environment. If you need to slam a weight down, you probably shouldn’t be lifting it. Starting with the car park. It’s good that this is an added benefit to the gym, if you can get a space. There’s no dedicated spaces for gym users so the soft play and trampoline park get really busy so families park in front of the gym, which means if you drive there at certain days/times, you won’t get parked. Spaces in the gym. There’s a big space downstairs which used to be used for PTs, cafe and I’d assume overflow. I’ve never seen it open or at use for the past few months, it’s a wasted space which could improve the available space. There’s studios upstairs which is great for classes and stretching areas when not being used. The weight room is in serious need of an update. Mirrors are cracked, weights are degrading and it’s pretty small. It can get very crowded very quickly. Becomes very off putting when you can’t get on any of the outdated equipment and have to squeeze past people due to the equipment being so close to one another. The cardio space is better but still has a lot of flaws. There’s lots of cardio equipment, however, most the time they’re often broken or “under maintained”. They never have dates to when they’ll be fixed. Again, the equipment is dated and needs replacing with better, working gear. The TVs on the treadmills are often broken or have no connection. The pool. The pool is a good size, it is an added benefit of this gym. But. There’s often classes certain parts of the days which means the lanes are unusable. There’s also sessions for families to bring kids in which makes the experience less enjoyable. The hot tubs aren’t usually on or one is open and the other closed (this might be to save money but when you’re paying alot per month, it should be on for members). The pool area also has a steam room and sauna, which are always busy! But fine if you don’t mind that. Now the changing rooms and corridor to the pool aren’t often clean. It needs more attention, especially with after what everyone has been through the past few years. The decor is dated, walls are chipped, cracked or stained. Sometimes building work looks like it’s been started but never finished. Overall, I wouldn’t go here. For a simple membership is about £60-£70 per month and for the quality of the gym/pool and overall atmosphere, better off going to a PureGym. I’d give this a 1 and a half stars tbh. I’ll be reviewing my membership and searching for a new gym.
Hi Jason, thanks for this feedback and apologies for any element of your club membership that was not satisfactory. We’ll take these comments onboard, as part of our continued improvement measures. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: This isn’t my home gym but I love this branch the best. I don’t use the spa so can’t comment on that but the staff are by far the loveliest! Marvin and Hannah’s Dancefit sessions make a huge difference to me and Fantas classes too. Fredrick on reception is so lovely as well. Thanks for making me feel welcome it means a lot.
Hi Louise, thank you for this fantastic feedback. We are really pleased to read of these excellent interactions with our team. ❤ With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: They have permanently switched off the Jacuzzis but still charge you same amount! Just as beginning of COVID they stopped free towels and your still paying same membership fee!!!
Hi, thanks for this feedback and apologies for the impact this would have had on your club visits. Unfortunately, any savings made from these actions have gone to assist with our operational costs, so we are not in the position to offer reduced tariffs at this time. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Great gym but need serious renovating, the shower rooms and drains smell of mould and savage.. the celling tiles are in mould and the sauna room wood is just about breaking apart. Just to add that jackuzzi is not working since last year when i firstly joined.
Hi Malgorzata, thanks for this feedback and apologies for any element of your club membership that was unsatisfactory. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Closed due to structural incident…. Google hasn’t been updated to say it’s closed the website hasn’t been updated. Just a piece of paper on the door. What a waste of my time
Hi Jack, apologies for the wasted visit. All members should receive club updates via SMS message when the club is closed. If our club is your home club, please check with the team to make sure you are opted into updates. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I am a member since 2017 and I am very satisfied with my membership. The pool and the gym is very nice. You get up to 4 hours of parking. I love the view as well
Thanks for the lovely review and rating Maryam, it is very much appreciated! ❤ Best wishes, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Positive experience: Equipment could be improved but staff are lovely
Thanks for the review and rating Suresh and apologies for the impact any equipment outages have had on your workout. We will continue to work closely with our servicer, to improve availability for members. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: I love it here. Classes are on point (@ Monifa, spinning), HIIT, aquarobics, all of them! The instructors are all very professional and friendly, classes are run on time and if there are cancellations, you're told about it Shower has hot running water, spa area is clean, swimming pool and poolside is clean and warm. I was a member at Sports Direct and it was S***! I wish I had joined Nuffield years ago! I'll take pics next time. Only thing I would say is Nuffield should introduce a membership where if you introduce a friend/family they get a discount.
Thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely review Chez, we are very pleased to read of the excellent group exercise sessions you have been completing with the team. Best wishes, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Very tidy gym, test staff.
Thanks for the positive rating and review Mark. Best wishes, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Fantastic experience: Great place to go!
Negative experience: Poor, occasionally come here as near my partners house, needs refurb asap, most fountains don't work, most gym equipment like benches missing screws etc, massive health and safety issue. No water machines working? Since coming like a month ago or so there's now an additional like 8 machines that don't work? This place takes your money which is way more then a leisure centre but doesn't wanna fix anything?
Hiya Teddy, thank you for this feedback and apologies for any elements of your club visits that were not to standard. With regards, the Nuffield Health Croydon (Purley Way) Fitness and Wellbeing Team
Negative experience: Staff are lovely! I have a lot of time for them! The facilities however are so poor. This place really need a major renovation. Mens showers always smell bad. Facilities like Steam room and hots tubs are constantly out of use sometimes for more than a month!I joined 8 months ago but I'm now seriously considering paying the extra to go to David Lloyd. Please take this review on board and give this place a major upgrade,
Negative experience: Mixed feeling from the first moment. Guy who picked up the phone was vague and I could feel he doesn’t care. We just wanted to see it for the first time as it has facilities that we require. Paid £15 for two just to try the pool. Very poor up-keeping, dated, yellow stains on tiles, missing tiles- I hurt my skin in the jacuzzi as I rubbed it off on the missing tiles. Kilograms of lime scale, general dirt in the pool lots of dirty sand. Very uncomfortable. Swam three lengths and we were enough of this place. Would not sign membership ever for this club.
Negative experience: Friendly staff but really poor at fixing equipment and other main facilities. Steam room out of action since 29th December. When I asked about it after two weeks a member of management said two weeks was good for Nuffield. Obviously have low standards if they feel that is acceptable. We are now 23rd January and still not rectified
Negative experience: Matthew Sennett has brought down the gym customer service and quality of the gym, very much like his sorry self. This used to be a good gym but not anymore. I’m looking at another gym now after being there for years.
Positive experience: only just signed up have been twice so far and I'm happy with it yes it's abit pricey however it has all the facilities I require the steam room is great and powerful really good sauna great jacuzzi place seems to be well maintained and the gym is fine overall I think it's really good and worth the money considering I can visit as many times as I like only reason I have rated 4 stars and not 5 is the decoration seems a little dated
Negative experience: Poor gym ... Over priced membership fee If u compare with nearest gyms. I started to pay extra through my gympass app for this gym but after ,2nd visit I have decided to cancel this gym from my gympass. Full of old gym equipments, looks like rustic gym . Poor receptionist too.
Negative experience: Disappointing. Great staff, awful facilities. Sauna and spa poor up-keeping. Showers are broken, tiles are missing on floors. Members disregard cleanliness, leaves wet wipes everywhere changing rooms. Use a bin! The equipment needs updating too. Currently poor facilities not reflecting standards of Nuffield club.
Negative experience: Locker room thief's in there!! Will break into our locker even with padlocks
Negative experience: Needs renovation. Let's the Nuffield brand down massively
Fantastic experience: I love going to this gym. Polite staff xx
Negative experience: Male locker room thefts - the gym itself is alright, which I have been using for a few years. However, someone broke into my locker on Thursday evening and took my wallet, money and my jeans(!!)., my padlock was completely gone. the same thing happened to another gym member. I reported it to the reception, they took all my details but it seemed they cared more about finishing work and going home than being concerned about thefts happened to their customers. It’s been a few days, and there was no follow up from them since. Guess it happens pretty often and they couldn’t care less. Terrible terrible!
Negative experience: I am appalled by the customer service at this gym. Never come across a gym like this. I have been contacting the gym with emails and phone calls since December and no one has contacted me back! They have given me emails to explain the issue to and still yet no response for many months! I am disgusted!
Fantastic experience: A bit pricey, but worth every penny! Lovely helpful staff and that includes those on reception.
Negative experience: Tried to join, took my number, never called back. Phoned 3 times and no answer. Pathetic, good luck being a member here!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, good gym equipment,
Thank you for your brilliant 4* rating. Kind regards, Nuffield Health Croydon Central Fitness & Wellbeing Gym
Negative experience: I went in on a day pass and only used the spa area. Staff at front desk was friendly. Spa area is excellent, really enjoyed the sauna, steam room and pool. However members walking in with just towel on, with their boxers, and one came in with cotton t-shirt (not for pool use) and boxers + a news paper into the sauna (There is a sign outside sauna which says don't bring combustible materials into this area and a example is given of a news paper). Didn't see staff telling anyone this is not allowed and upon checking rules and regs on nuffield website the only rule for gym and pool area is - Appropriate footwear for the gym and poolside must be worn at all times. So I guess anything goes as long as foot wear is correct, so don't be surprised one day if you walk into the sauna and see someone sitting there, in their suit reading a news paper and on flames.
Fantastic experience: The way they have located the treadmills, one behind the other, can be seen as both a good and bad idea. I was on the treadmill the other day and a young women was on the one in front of me. I could clearly see camel toe on her. It was a real good view and helped me clock a good time albeit with a stiffy. Nice.
Negative experience: The gym is dated and very oddly laid out. Even when they got "new" equipment it was still very dated. From what I've seen of Nuffield Health I don't know why anyone would pick them over PureGym or TheGym. The app is also really dated in comparison to the other gyms. It's top price for bottom quality.
Positive experience: Friendly staff Clean Equipment recently upgraded Parking available Can be crowded sometimes
Positive experience: Its looking a bit tired . Could do with updating as the members are spending quite a lot of money
Positive experience: Great gym been using for over 4 years. Does sometimes lack in speed of fixing stuff. And recently one new front desk worker was a little rude and was not expecting it but rest of them are lovely and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: This gym is the best in Croydon. After a good workout, sauna, steam room and shower you can burn your spliff in the car park. It has ample space and the smell does not seem to bother anyone. Great news!!
Positive experience: Been a member for about 4 years, parking is an issue currently as the retail park has had major building work, however whenever there have been problems in the past with general issues they do get resolved eventually such as cleaning which is now at a reasonable standard but only just in the showers which tend to be grimy. Classes are very popular and some have to be booked 7days in advance - but that's because it's a good place. Off peak times are not busy and there are reduced fees for off peak only members. Take your own shower gel, the one provided by Nuffield for the past couple of years is nasty, smells bad and will give you flaky scalp - inconvenient however better than smelling like a damp towel and looking like you have dandruff! There are 3 spars however they have not been working or have been made to run infrequently it seems in the last few months, would be good to see this back to the way it was soon.
Positive experience: Ok gym. Spacious but good do with an upgrade. They need a second squat rack for sure. Staff are polite but don’t always seem that friendly or approachable.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic costumer service . Classes with Laura amaizing. Very unusual fun , mix of dancing and baley . Thank you for hard work and big smile .
Fantastic experience: Been a member for some time. Great friendly staff Great members. But. Its time for a upgrade. Needs new and more variant of machines. This branch has become dirty over time place needs brightening up. 08/08/19 UPDATE THANK YOU NUFFIELD GREAT IMPROVEMENT AT PURLEY BRANCH WELL DONE.
Fantastic experience: Love this Gym they have everything you need to make your body perfect love their steam room and sauna with jacuzzi pool after work out session.
Positive experience: Decent enough facilities, including pool and spa, as you’d expect from Nuffield. The gym itself suffers from being split into two parts: a ‘main’ gym, which has no dumbbells to speak of, and a ‘strength’ gym. Unfortunately the ‘strength’ gym shows all the signs of an unreformed macho club, guys too cool to put weights back in the rack, and all competing for the same dumbbells because there’s only the one pair of 10/12/14 etc. I suspect no coincidence that women and less hench blokes stick to the ‘main’ gym. Shame, because it’s not like it would be hard for management to set a positive tone in the place.
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym (main & strength area), would prefer higher than 10kg dumbbells in main gym though (please). Pool is lovely and clean, with good sauna and steam room. Go at quiet times if you want to do lengths as not the widest pool as only two lanes. Friendly staff throughout the facility.
Fantastic experience: Friendly and helpful staff, great classes to meet any level of fitness. Fun, motivational and if you want results you will get them.
Negative experience: Unfriendly staff and manager
Fantastic experience: Good gym friendly staff.. big complex with plenty of equipment.. can get busy at peak times..
Positive experience: It will do for me.......member since May 17, visiting 4 times a week
Positive experience: Well equipped.
Positive experience: So far so good staff are helpful on front desk I will be writing more after my training session later today about what the gym is real like

Positive experience: Decent gym. Pretty spacious and with a fairly good selection of equipment. The staff is usually very helpful and approachable. Also their Health MOT is an excellent addition. Plenty of parking. Scoring 4 stars, as I wish they had a bit more equipment in the free weights section.

Negative experience: Another generic Nuffield leisure facility but I did not like the crowd here, very tacky and loud music being played upstairs in the classes, I thought I was in a club! The sauna lights were not working and the steam was not very steamy, with a gap underneath the door which made no sense at all! Steam was a bit unhygienic. I would say that the best Nuffield Health are the centres that have been bought from Virgin Active. Other than that, the staff are quite friendly at reception.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, friendly and qualified staff, huge variety of classes, excellent equipment and 3 gyms to work out in, plus two studios and a good swimming pool

Negative experience: too expensive and no concessions. when trying to discuss this with the sales people they all have got no say so in the pricing and do not seem to follow nuffield health ethics because this gym does not care if you need it to recover. sad, sad, sad as nuffield is all about money, nothing else.

We use reviews as an isight to our customer experiences wth a view to improve our services. If you want to escalate your problems further, please email [email protected]. Positive experience: Been going for at least 5 years. Has a good pool and gym so great combination plus free ample parking. Well located on Purley Way.
Negative experience: I felt this gym was a little unwelcoming compared to the other Nuffield gyms. This particular gym I felt let the brand down a little. Many things were broken and the staff were not built for hospitality.
Negative experience: Not overly impressed lately that the gym is like an oven. The air conditioning has become gradually worse in the two years since i've been going. The average temperature in the strength gym is 23 degrees which is far too hot! Have found myself prone to dizzy spells and vomiting which isn't helped by the high temperatures in the gym. Nuffield sort it out or i'm going somewhere else.
Hi Nicki, Thank you for your review. I would like to apologise on behalf of the club for the recent issues with regards to the air con. I can confirm that unfortunately additional parts were needed and as such there has been a delay in getting this rectified. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to mail me on [email protected] or alternatively you are always welcome to speak to the General or Duty manager who can give you specific updates on the maintenance on site. I am sorry for the inconvenience and discomfort this has caused in the meantime. With kind regards, Ben Nuffield Health consumer care
Fantastic experience: great gym and amazing staff, gains city!!

Negative experience: Staff only interested in helping if they are being paid to do assessments. Otherwise they are not interested in helping if you are in the gym.
