Liverpool Fitness & Wellbeing Gym can be found at 1 Riverside Drive, Liverpool, L3 4EN. Located right on the riverside, our Liverpool gym can be found just a 10-minute walk from Brunswick Station. If you drive or commute along the A561 then this gym is very convenient for you.

Opening times: Weekdays: 06:30–22:00; Weekends: 08:00–20:00; Off-peak hours: Mon–Fri: 06:30–17:00, Weekends: Anytime; Bank Holiday hours: 08:00–20:00

The sauna and steam room will close 1 hour before the club closes and all other facilities will begin to close 30 minutes prior to closing time.

Positive experience: I have been a member of this Gym for a while, it seems they recently changed to new management, But there are some things that need to be fixed such as following: 1- Steam Room needs to be fixed and standardised in order to transmit the virus and the contagious state of viral infections, which currently lacks the national health standard. 2-The hot water jacuzzi, which has been closed for a long time to store energy consumption, needs to be rebuilt and created again. Note: The British government grants free loans of up to 10,000 pounds to institutions and companies that use energy. They may use solar panels energy instead. 3- Some treadmills and cardio machines have not been repaired or replaced for several months or years, which need to be changed.

Positive experience: I've been a member for 9 months and this is my honest review. There's a lot I like about Nuffield: - the gym floor is small and relatively well equipped, getting from one piece of equipment to another is easy; - the environment feels very inclusive. I regularly see seniors, people with limited mobility, a variety of body types and skill levels, lots of women; everyone seems friendly, considerate of private space. - natural light in the functional training area is such a great feature; - music is not too loud; - the staff I've engaged with were friendly and approachable. The summer/weekend staff need a bit more training though; - female changing rooms are very clean; - great class selection, the studio is nice to work out in; - sauna and pool are obviously a huge bonus; - even at peak times you don't have to wait around too long; The negatives: - the equipment is dated. The looks is not a big issue for me, but some stationary equipment needs recalibration. - mini gym is tragically underused and neglected. Gym goers that do use it, often take weights, foam blocks and rollers from the functional training zone and don't bring it back. - management is not responsive to feedback - I raised a couple of issues about equipment and made suggestions, none of it has been actioned. - the sauna and steam room area is such a bro-town. I overheard sexist and racist remarks a number of times. As a female I don't have the balls to call this out, sadly, other men don't feel comfortable doing so either. It's a real shame, because the gym floor feels very safe and inclusive. - functional training area would benefit from a few more rollers, resistance bands, light weights (1-2kg), a set of steel plyo boxes (plastic mini step and padded boxes are not ideal for stability work). - jacuzzi runs in cycles and the water is too cold

Negative experience: Average facilities which appear to be getting downgraded, rather than upgraded as time goes on. Started with 3 Jacuzzis, now down to 1 cold one. Equipment is falling apart, appear to get hand me downs from other Nuffields when they get the new equipment. At time of writing this review both the Bicep Curl Machine & Chest Press Machine are broken and have been for weeks with no signs of them being fixed. Have tried to raise issues internally, starting in July 2023. Initially cleanliness did appear to make a big improvement, but these standards have dropped again. Thick layers of dust on top of the equipment and you’re often joined by worms in the showers and ants in the toilets. Have given up raising these internally now as just seem to get given platitudes and nothing changes. Raised issue regarding the lockers not having numbers or pins on the keys for when using the pool. Initially given a generic “I’ll look into this” reply on 01.02.2024, with nothing being looked into. Raised issue again on 06.03.2024 and was given what seemed like a genuine reply on 03.04.2024 that the locker situation was being resolved with time being set aside each Monday for these to be fixed. Again, unsurprisingly, we’re now in July and not 1 locker key has a safety pins & I’d estimate 40-50% of them don’t even have numbers on the keys, so finding your locked turns into a fun little game when you’re trying to get dressed. Drinking water is always luke warm. Often people are seen getting drinking water from the cold shower outside the steam room because of this. These concerns are constant source of discussion with members, due to the high price they pay. Can guarantee if a gym was to open in the area with a sauna and steam room Nuffield Liverpool would lose 50% of their members in the first 2-3 months. The saving grace of Nuffield Liverpool is the staff working there. They are always smiling, welcoming and happy to help where they can, most especially Gill on reception. If it wasn’t for the staff the review score would be lower. You can see how hard the staff all work, but their hands are quite obviously tied by poor upper management practice and ignoring of concerns. I’ve noticed the “Meet the Manager” events are always held between 09.00-17.00 in the week, when the gym is significantly quieter and less people are able to attend to raise concerns. Not what I’ve seen at other Nuffields around the country and certainly not what you’d expect by an organisation that describes themselves as being “State-of-the-art.”

Negative experience: -Hot tub is fully functioning, but they've filled it in with stones to save money. -Irregular cleaning pattern for the sauna/ steam room very regularly get kicked out or arrive to find it closed. -Classes are very busy, must be booked a full week in advance. -Staff highly inattentive to customer requests/ complaints. -I've left and I won't be looking back, spend your money elsewhere.

Positive experience: I go there purely to swim, and I book through ClassPass. It takes 4 credits for a 2 hour gym and swim session which I believe is good value! I like the pool, it’s a good size and the lanes are a decent width. It’s never massively busy either, which is a bonus - I think most people probably use the gym here and then have a quick sauna after rather than actually swimming. The sauna is good too. Always nice and clean when I go as well! And I like the coconut body wash in the showers.

Negative experience: Seems they are keeping the cost of the fuel bills down by keeping the facilities on a bare minimum setting this will not keep customers happy I was unimpressed by the steam room that was not very steamy at all and also the jacuzzi was too cold and drinking water was warm so everything the opposite of what it should be the only reason this happens is because the gym is scrimping on bills so unfortunately I’m out

Negative experience: Steam room not hot enough no steam in their had to stay standing up on the seats to get a bit of steam as it rises and stay in for twice as long as average steam room in my previous gyms and the jacuzzi was cold the drinking water was warm puddles of water in the steam room on the floor with a squeegee left in their supposedly for customers to get rid of the 2 inch pool of water of the steam room floor not a nice place very airy feeling to it and very outdated

Fantastic experience: Clean, Well organised and good vibe centre. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's had everything you need equipment wise and a nice small cafeteria serving healthy food and snacks. Would recommend to anyone.

Negative experience: Leaving due to old equipment, closing the pool constantly jacuzzi’s turned off, place not really looked after and yet prices rising It’s a real shame!. Been to a few Nuffield branches across the UK and this one is probably one of the worst I’ve seen.

Fantastic experience: I go to a Coffee & Chat group run by Incurable Wonderful on a Friday!!! There’s a Costa Coffee on site - it’s a card only payment!!! They have accessible parking & an accessible toilet/shower/changing area!!! We are able to access the pool/steam room/jacuzzi it is set out in lane swimming - slow, normal & fast!!! Positive experience: I've been here since it opened under Greens . Great place then . Now the car park is run down . The same plumbing since 2000. The jacuzzis are now disabled apparently due to running costs . The pool is often being repaired and intermittently closed . The pool area is cold as is the pool water . Too cold in my opinion for children . The cafe closes at 2 but despite these cost savings the fees increase. The building is great it just needs a different owner now , it needs investment. How on earth can a gymn close it's jacuzzis. It's a total joke . . So to be fair . The car park had been renovated The cafe is open longer now . Place looks cleaner . The pool has been closed for a week due to a serious leak . They've repaired it quickly so they've done well . So they've listened.

Negative experience: Was excited to join after previously attending as a guest prior to Covid. I should've really had a fresher look round. Equipment is dated and tired, heated jacuzzis switched off due to costs and the place just feels old and tired. Unless there's a drastic change I will be leaving once my contract is up. Seems a real shame as it was a great gym once upon a time. Staff are always great and friendly though.

Positive experience: Rundown (in need of a complete refit). One of the most expensive gyms in the city yet it feels like a budget gym. PureGym down the road has newer and better equipment. I joined years ago and honestly it’s sad to see how much this place has fallen from grace.

Positive experience: Fell away from being the very best Health Gym and Swim club I'm the city over last 6 months. Members continue to pay memberment fees for a drastically reduced service. It is too easy to blame increased electric costs for the heating of Jacuzzis, showers swimming pool steam room and Sauna . Much of the equipment and other facilities have been in existence since the club first opened over 20 years ago, as charity that is well funded it's performance in Liverpool is well below what we pay for.

Negative experience: I've been going now since 2018 and at 1st it was great then after a few months I felt it was allowing men to shave in the steam room regularly. Bringing this issue up with the staff wasn't the problem but nothing was done about it. Unfortunately due to work commitments I couldn't change my time's. Then covid hit .... Since the gym has been fully operational the problem has got worse. I felt intimidated by these men who all shave themselves.....!!! It's absolutely disgusting and nothing was done about it. They don't have the steam or sauna hot enough and then to top it off only 1 jacuzzi now in operation to save money.. .!! But the fees hadn't been reduced. The standard of hygiene has deteriorated rapidly. Staff are friendly enough but to busy standing around reception and dealing with the issues of being a good gym.

Negative experience: Used to be a good gym but it's run down now. The sauna is never hot enough an the steam is always off, and 2 Jacuzzis are closed for the winter to save the owners money, also the showers an toilets never get cleaned an always smell bad.

Negative experience: The place is not what it once was, the gym is looking really rundown and unclean! It needs a full refurb, this gym will be left in the dust if their users try other gyms like JD gym, Which is much cleaner! For the price you pay for membership you would expect a bit of quality but at present I can get a better gym for half the price, several in-fact. Pool area unclean and shoddy, sauna is usually in bits, changing rooms are not very clean and wales look like they have been plastered in icing rather than plaster! This was such a good gym under greens gym!

Positive experience: Mały ale fajny basen z trzema torami, dwie sauny (parowa i sucha), jacuzzi. Podczas moich wizyt zawsze widzę, jak ktoś tam sprząta, lub sprawdza jakość wody. Duży plus. Fantastic experience: I've been going to Nuffield Health for over a year. They have a great range of equipment and the atmosphere there is very friendly and welcoming. I had PT sessions with Ciaran for 10 months and I would highly recommend him to anyone. I used to lack confidence and motivation in the gym, but Cairan was very friendly and helpful, and he's provided me with a strong framework to help me keep focused and achieve my goals.

Negative experience: Not my home gym but used when visiting family. Comparatively to the Nuffields I have used previously this place is poor. Dirty, outdated and requiring a total refurbishment. Staff were lovely but this place need major investment to get it back up to standard.

Positive experience: Good range of facilities, maybe due an update on some things The sauna could be cleaned more often as this seems to be busy so the floor ends up with pools of dirty water I don't use the steam room but others say it isn't hot enough and often has repairs needed The gym has good equipment and lots of weights but there aren't enough stretch mats so you have to do floor work and abs without a mat, I think this is something that should have been spotted by staff

Positive experience: Outside of peak time the weights section is never too busy so you can get a full work out in. Within the weights section it has 2x squat racks, 1x flat bench, 1x incline bench, 1x Smith Machine, 5x adjustable benches, 2 sets of dumbell racks and then all the weight machines you need and cable machines. So overall it has everything you need to workout but I wish it had a dedicated deadlift platform

Negative experience: I first joined in 2016, and the gym was great then, but now, to put it simply, the gym is just an absolute show. They have now closed 2 of the 3 jacuzzi's and the one left isn't even hot! The gym equipment, i dont even know where to start. They get "new equipment" which is basically well used 2nd hand machines that break all the time, probably why the other gyms are getting rid of them. If prices didn't constantly go up i could understand why they closed the jacuzzi's but the fact they closed them and still justified a price increase on the membership is a joke. Would not recommend this gym to anyone. As an existing gym member, my fee is only £50.88 but if you join now its £68.00 (they are due a price increase again at the beginning of March so god knows how much you will pay now)

Positive experience: after being member for nearly four years I observed few consistent problems which never sorted 1.gym is always cold and it has a terrible impact on my health 2. water from water fountains is freezing cold and you can't find any room temp water 3. treadmills are terrible old (old ones replaced by old ones) they are noisy and wiggly. pool is not clean enough. don't be shocked if you come across with the people who soak their flip flops in to the pool (the responsible person doesn't care about it even if you let them know) .

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic facility. I've been a member for almost a year, but have really only taken advantage of everything the gym has to offer since quarantine ended. I've been a member of several gyms over the years, but Nuffield has really made me enjoy going. The class selection is plentiful, the staff do a wonderful job, the personal trainers are on point, the selection of equipment is ideal... I could wax poetic. As well, the safety precautions that Nuffield put into place post-quarantine have made for a safe environment. If you're looking to join a gym, this is the place to be.

Negative experience: Since under new management this gym has continued on a downward spiral. The new manager Debbie the doormat is useless; she asked me what needs improving as if she cared and when I replied she was defensive and shut me down, very rude. She also barred my mate from there for nothing because he complained about the hygiene etc. of the gym With a new manager this gym could be great

Negative experience: Due to the change around they have done, there is now very little space for you to stretch, due to the classes they run taking up those spaces. The part next to the cardio equipment being the main part. Cardio equipment, including treadmills need updating. If you use one of the ones with the touchscreen displays; you’re lucky if this is picked up by the machine when you try to change speed etc. So it’s pretty dangerous if you’re running at a high speed and want to slow down. Joined as an initial member around 5 years ago, and equipment has never been updated in that time

Fantastic experience: The gym is great and the facilities are excellent, however, a lot of the users really need reminding to clean up after themselves. Every time I’ve gone lately some inconsiderate has left USED chewing gum on the cross trainers/treadmills/bikes. I feel sorry for the cleaners having to pick it off. Countless people will use the machines and not wipe them down afterwards too, they seem to think because they’re not drenched in sweat they don’t need to clean it when they’ve had their bum and sweaty hands on it for 30 mins. It’s getting worse and machines can feel very grubby. I see people cleaning them before they use them and they shouldn’t have to. There needs to be a ban enforced on chewing gum (you don’t need it at the gym anyway) and some reminders to wipe down machines. Also make sure blue roll and spray is available at all times, sometimes it’s not and just gives the lazy ones an excuse not to wipe down what they’ve used.

Fantastic experience: I visited on a free day pass and this is hands down the best gym I've been to. Friendly staff, nice building, working equipment, cold water fountains. It's also clean and well-presented. The range of resistance machines is better than most gyms and there's a LOT of equipment. I like that there's natural light in the building; as some places are just spot-lighting and no windows at all; this place only has that in the res/cardio rooms - whilst the foyer and pool have huge windows that get the sunset and plenty of sun (and you can workout there too). Pool was fantastic although a little busy at peak. Can't beat a jacuzzi post-workout. There's only one thing that I would've loved to see there; a free-strider. But the cardio equipment is pretty comprehensive otherwise and they're decent models too. If I could afford a membership I'd sign up in a heartbeat. But it's understandably costlier than competitors and I'm rather poor right now :/.

Negative experience: most of the lockers have been broken into and I have heard multiple stories of the stuff doing nothing about it..

Positive experience: Excellent gym. Great facilities and warm friendly staff. The monthly membership fee is fantastic value. Great place to train to keep fit and make new friends.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend this gym enough! I go every day Mon-Fri and do at least 2 classes, followed by a steam/sauna and swim. The staff are always really friendly, the gym and studio are always well kept and tidy, and when it's busy there is still enough room to workout so as not to feel claustrophobic. The pool and spa areas are always kept to a high standard (which I'm always keeping an eye on because I can't bear that sock fluff you sometimes see!). Overall, it's one of the best gyms I've been a member of (I've been a member of David Lloyd & The Racquets Club, The Village and Total Fitness). Highly recommended.

Negative experience: The standards of this site are terrible. Relaxation facilities like sauna and steam are always broken and the swimming pool is of really poor hygiene. Cleanliness standards have fallen massively since the last operations manager left. I tried speaking to the gym deputy manager who was quite frankly disinterested and very rude. Don't pay over £30 a month for this. Just not worth it.

Fantastic experience: Great environment and good facilities. Slightly more expensive than other gyms but definitely a better environment, with a decent pool and good steam and sauna rooms. Get a free health MOT if you join - it's interesting information that can help you plan your training regime.

Negative experience: TERRIBLE GYM!! Had a £1000 bag stolen of me from my locker a few nights ago, but when I told the staff they seemed to not care and just put a not working sign on the locker door. There is many other lockers that have been targeted in the gym and have been broken in to, even on the entrance the staff have put a sign recommending you to keeping your stuff at home or in your car. (IF YOU WANT TO GET YOU STUFF STOLEN COME TO THIS GYM)

Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff who are always happy to help whatever the situation. The gym is on the upper floor and has a huge amount of equipment, plus a mini gym containing weights machines, and a free weights room. The swimming pool is a fantastic facility, and features three spa pools (a cool one, medium and hot), spa and sauna. Would recommend.

Fantastic experience: Been a member for over 6 months now, this is a small but great gym in a location that is very convenient for people who work in the city centre. Not as snazzy as David Lloyd but then the price reflects that. The equipment is in good working order and the pool is usually pretty quiet. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and the PTs are really excellent (especially Aaron who really knows his stuff).

Positive experience: So much in favour of this gym - nice facilities, good cafe, friendly staff and users (mostly), range of classes, convenient parking. But sadly the bully misogynists who shave in the steam room etc are not confronted.

Positive experience: Loving the new spinning classes and watt bikes. Such a friendly gym too! Weights need a big improvement but Hopefully some more equipment will be sorted soon

Negative experience: What a pity - a clean, appealing and friendly environment overall has its reputation tarnished by low level of professionalism from swim staff. High turnover of swimming teachers for kids swimming lessons with new teachers frequently. No consistency for kids! Swim instructors also frequently unavailable for one to one private sessions despite high total payment for each lesson which is done in advance. The level of communication skills amongst swimming instructors at Nuffiled Gym, and, the need for a better system to ensure effective, fair and decent customer service in the interests of its clients and professional courtesy should be addressed by management!!

Fantastic experience: I usually go in the evenings and there is always loads of free machines. The ladies only gym is great for using the weight machines without feeling like a lightweight. The classes are great and so is the pool facilities. Overall the gym is really clean and has a lovely, relaxed feel and is great value for money.

Positive experience: Ignore the bad reviews below, yes it's a bit pricier compared to some of the Liverpool City Centre gyms but you get what you pay for. Easy parking, good clean equipment and changing rooms and the staff are helpful and friendly...

Fantastic experience: Ignore the outdated bad reviews of this place. It's clean, efficient and there's plenty of exercise equipment. It's not the cheapest but has the facilities to warrant the price.
