Our Chigwell Fitness & Wellbeing centre is located next to the Woolston Manor Golf Course and Topgolf Chigwell. This fantastic sporting complex can be found 8-minutes’ drive from Loughton or 5-minutes’ drive from Chigwell itself.

Opening times: Weekdays: 06:00–22:00; Weekends: 08:00–21:00; Off peak hours: Weekdays: 09:30-15:30, Weekends: 15:30-21:00; Bank Holiday hours: 08:00–20:00

Negative experience: I've finally cancelled my membership of this hovel. It's dirty. The lockers are always broken. The changing rooms are cold. The showers are tepid. Gym staff are anonymous. Lifeguards sit poolside on their phones. It's a disgrace. Join literally any other sports club.

Negative experience: I just went there for the free 3 day trial that I booked a week earlier and was refused entry by deputy manager, even though I had a code sent via SMS for the entry. They kept claiming that the gym is excluded from the offer even though the name was clearly displayed on the message. Even if this was a technical issue any normal organisation would accept their mistake and stick with what they promised, but not here. Even more bizarre is that after I told them that I have no transport to leave for the next hour as my husband just dropped me off, the other lady even suggested to use their phone to call him even though I obviously showed the code on MY MOBILE PHONE! I wanted to check the gym before signing up, but honestly such a disappointment..

Positive experience: During the last 7 years the condition of the facility has degraded. I understand the pandemic had an impact but lowering the price to attract more clients made it messier. During the peak times weights are everywhere, you should either set stringent policies or ask the staff to be more proactive, otherwise you will lose well behaved customers.

Negative experience: After £208 annual price increase and the jacuzzi closure, I left after 11 years. The steam room, main pool, and hot water were unavailable for ten months in 2023 due to heating system collapse, boiler problems and hazy lighting. No showers, aqua classes, or swimming took place. Four pool lanes led to collisions on 14th November 2024. Lifeguards are rarely present main poolside. Since July 2024, the faulty sound system meant no music in aqua sessions and within ladies changing rooms -which have small, dark cubicles. Outdoor pool furniture was covered in bird poo and had broken umbrellas. The fitness class instructors are excellent, but many one-hour sessions are only 45 minutes –after Nuffield took over.

Negative experience: The customer service here is diabolical. The reception staff are inconvenient, are lazy and do the bare minimum. I wanted to cancel my membership, I went to reception to do this to be told I needed to email the management team. They didn't give me the email address to do this, so I went on-line to obtain the email address, where it stated I can do this in the gym at reception, Once I managed to cancel my membership and have confirmation of my last payment with what felt like a disingenuous apology for the inconvenience. I received an email informing me of an increase in the monthly payments. Prompting me to check my statement, to see thay hadn't cancelled my membership despite confirmation and debited my account again. I don't know if they're selective with who gets good customer service or not, but the reception team needs further customer service training or need replacing.

Negative experience: Terrible Experience at Nuffield Health Chigwell - Avoid at All Costs! If you're considering joining Nuffield Health Chigwell, think again. This gym has been nothing but a frustrating and costly experience. Here's why: 1) Constant Pool Closures and Temperature Issues: One of the primary reasons I joined was for the pool. Unfortunately, it’s often closed, and when it is open, the water is either too cold or barely usable. For a gym that charges premium prices, you’d think they could manage basic facilities! 2) Scam-Like Contract Practices: Attempting to cancel my membership has been a nightmare. They’re quick to quote abusive clauses designed to trap members, always charging an extra month even after you’ve clearly stopped using their services. If you contest this, they won’t hesitate to send in debt collectors – a ridiculous and unprofessional approach for a gym that markets itself as “health-focused.” 3) Terrible Customer Service: The staff seems well-trained in deflecting complaints and referring you to fine print rather than actually helping. They clearly care more about getting money than about member satisfaction or service quality. In summary, Nuffield Health Chigwell is overpriced, poorly managed, and utterly unprofessional. Save yourself the hassle and join a gym that values its members and delivers on its promises.

Fantastic experience: Decent gym. Clean with plenty of equipment and spa facilities are great. My only issue with this gym is that mobile coverage seems poor and WIFI is either extremely slow or just doesn't work at all during busy periods.

Negative experience: After signing up online on the Nuffield website, to a free 3-day gym pass specifically for the Chigwell branch, on 28/09/24 I decided to visit for the first time. When I arrived and showed my free 3-day gym pass code, I was told by a worker that the free passes were given out by mistake and that they are not accepted at the Chigwell branch. I was extremely disappointed due to travelling all the way and not being made aware in advance that the 3-day pass would not be valid. I was then told instead I could buy a 1-day pass which would cost £15. I did not believe this was fair as it was an error on Nuffield gym’s behalf, and again I was not made aware at all. I then spoke to the Chigwell branch manager called Shaz who was inconsiderate and not understanding of the fact I had travelled to claim my free 3-day pass. The best he offered was to charge me for a 1-day pass at a children’s price which I believe was still unreasonable. I then had no choice but to pay for a 1-day pass as I had already made the journey to the gym. I used the swimming pool facilities at the gym which were fine but was disappointed by the fact that the sauna was being cleaned and therefore, out of use. As it was a Saturday afternoon I believe this was poor service especially considering I had now paid for the 1-day pass and so expected all facilities to be available. Overall, I was disappointed and underwhelmed by my first experience at Nuffield gym Chigwell. Having to pay for a 1-day pass after being advertised a free 3-day pass has made me feel scammed and deceived into making a visit.

Negative experience: Unacceptable behaviour from the reception team, I actually fill sick to be member of this Gym! I am probably wasting my time writing this review as even top management don’t really care and do notting to improve customer experience. Came with my two little children and her friend to use the kids pool, we are member of the gym paid for the extra child and did not let the parent guardian to supervise the kids even we said guardian will not use the gym ! After 15 min explanation Forced him to pay 15£ just to come in and watch his child to swim. which was fine, due to system error no code received in email, staff did not give a sh’’t - no code no entry, made a massive deal and ask my friend and child to leave the gym. Left me stood there like an idiot and three kids crying ( all my kids wanted and swim in the kids pool.) Honestly I heard this was the case with many members now I understand what they mean - Managment of this location don’t really care ! I will take this to head office - no wonder place has a 3.5 start rating ! I am putting this I hope your Managment team will see and take action to improve customer experience. There many independent gyms out there with much better service and appreciated you being their members.

Negative experience: Worst customer service . Some staff has got very disgusting attitude which is not suitable for customer service. Cannot imagine how the company does not care about their face . Guests who are paying a lot of money for your disgusting behavior. Shame on you. What I have witnessed today was a horrible scene. Including the unprofessional manager who can not do his job properly. Arguing with customer shows how unprofessional he is. Highly recommend not to go there.

Negative experience: I am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service at this gym, especially considering the high price of membership (£97) . The staff are unprofessional and unresponsive, with little to no effort made to address members concerns or provide assistance. For the amount of money I am paying to be a member of this gym, I expect a much higher level of service and support. I would not recommend this gym to anyone looking for a positive and enjoyable fitness experience.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with the customer service at this gym, particularly from the management team. They are unprofessional, unresponsive, and rude. I have had multiple issues with my membership and every time I try to address them with the management, I am met with hostility and a complete lack of empathy. There is a serious lack of communication between the management team and the members. The staff are also inconsistent and unreliable, with many of them appearing disinterested and unenthusiastic about helping the members. Overall, the customer service at this gym is abysmal and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a positive and supportive gym experience.

Fantastic experience: I have been having personal training sessions with Josh for 3 months now and he has been amazing! My strength has improved dramatically for longevity. He has shown me how to use so much more of the gym equipment which I’ve never felt confident to use before and I already feel so much more healthier and stronger. Fantastic experience: The legs bums and tums class with Josh Wyatt on Wednesday and Thursday mornings are the best. Intense, fun and you feel great after. Negative experience: I have been a member for a few years now and I’m in the process of moving to a different gym. I give 2 stars because of the indoor and outdoor pool, and some of the classes are absolutely brilliant. Shout out to Kelly and Jack. But the rest is just neglected. The sauna is tiny and there is basically no level of refurbishment despite the high price tag. The gym floor is okay but I’ve definitely been to better equipped gyms. The last straw for me is that the showers stop working every time I visit (4/5 times a week). This is due to an overload of pressure on the water system…or so I have been told. But just imagine every time you have a shower that you have shampoo in your hair and suddenly the water turns off for at least 10 minutes. Save yourself the stress and go to another gym!

Negative experience: Bikes 1 2nd row bike 3rd from right. FTP does not adjust and bike doesn’t sinc to leader board Bike 44 doesn’t work keeps moving back to resume. Far left 4th row and bike next to it doesn’t work . There are others. Beware of going to these classes unless you get someone to save your bike in the front row . Pretty rubbish treatment of its members. Tried a 4th bike last bike on right 2nd row. Keeps going back to either summary or set up. Pathetic bike class. Doesn’t happen at David Lloyd. Who wants hassle at 8:15 in the morning. Do this morning I found that all the out of order or damaged bikes had been put back in the pool of bikes to make it look like there was a lot of bikes. The out of order. Ikes had them p or a r. Y out of order. On rhem and the bikes with problems had circles or stars on them. Howe ver bike 39 which did go and unfortunately I took had problems as was not set up properly making it a hard ride. Had to then search after 5 minutes of ride for a bike that responded properly. Around 15 bikes do not work in this class or damaged somehow. I think putting the out of order bikes back in is an admission they won’t be fixed. I am sure it will be a pathetic answer of apology . Avoid this class at all costs . You will be disappointed . The bikes that are out of order not damaged have been like this for months and months. No new investment. Very poor.

Fantastic experience: I came in for a taster session with little to no hope that I would get any benefit as I am not in the best shape it mind set but Andrej made my day. With his inspiring and positive energy he made me feel good and I love our induction session. The gym is clean, I loved that there is light coming through. I had a pick of the outdoor swimming pool, which is fantastic. I highly recommend Andrej as a personal trainer.

Negative experience: I was a member of this gym for more than 10 years, but had to leave due to it getting increasingly run down over time, and the management doing absolutely nothing about it. Equipment was always broken, and they’d take months to fix it; the gym, pool and shower areas were absolutely filthy. I made multiple complaints about the cleanliness and it never improved. They simply don’t care about people’s feedback or customer satisfaction. The final straw was when they closed the hot tub, yet kept membership prices the same, and suddenly stopped bothering to warm the main pool, rendering the whole spa completely useless. Also some very aggressive members who would start arguments; you can regularly find fights kicking off on the gym floor. Nuffield Chigwell is GHETTO. This is my local gym, but I now drive 30-40 mins to a super-high end gym in Hertfordshire, and the difference in quality and cleanliness is insane. My new gym is a dream, and this place is Hell on earth. I can’t believe anyone still goes here.

Fantastic experience: Great outdoor pool, children love it. There is a nursery on site with 2 hours per day included in the membership. We have been members for 2 years already, with health insurance there is a big discount. Lots of improvements with new management now.

Negative experience: Nuffield do better! You class Chigwell as a top tier gym yet what I experience is far from the best. The floors are dirty, the mats have never been cleaned underneath, there’s dust, there’s dirt, there’s cobwebs. Overall the entire place looks tired and old, whilst the price continues to rise. On top of that, benefits such as the jacuzzi have been taken away. I’m seriously considering joining David Lloyd at this rate, even though it’s more expensive, the reviews are far better. Something has to change.

Negative experience: I have been a member for 15+ years. There have been various issues over the years as you would expect which were sorted out over time. However, we have a swimming pool that has been run as a 3 lane pool from day one and now a new manager has insisted it’s to run as 4 lanes . This means that the lanes are too narrow for swimming past each other and there have been numerous collisions, kickings and scratchings . Complaining is a waste of time as the manager says he views the cameras and no incidents have occurred, cameras can’t see underwater. On emailing the manager I’m told he works under the swim England pool guidelines which is utter nonsense as a community 4 lane pool width needs or should be 8.5 metres, our pool is 8 metres. I’m not going to keep banging on with this review, I asked the manager why after 15+ years are you trying to fix something that’s not broken. The reply was it’s 4 lanes now , if you don’t like it basically it’s tuff. Accident waiting to happen imo. Oh last point, 3 regular swimmers have terminated their membership, with others to follow.

Negative experience: Have had to cancel my membership after being a member since it first opened as Holmes Place, then Virgin Active and now Nuffield Health & Wellbeing. I was a regular swimmer for all that time with no issues but now “the management” have chosen to change the pool into 4 lanes from 3. The lanes are now only 2m wide and this, I consider, to be highly dangerous and very unsettling whilst you are swimming. I swim with great swimmers how are powerful, fast and doing tumble turns. I admire them and we have always managed to fit around each other. I cannot see how this is possible in a space of 2m. Several of us have voiced our concerns to no avail, and in some cases downright unpleasantness. I am sad to leave as I have met some lovely fellow swimmers and even some staff but I cannot continue to enjoy my daily exercise whilst being stressed in the pool. So much for a “wellbeing” facility.

Negative experience: PT’s don’t pick up weights, inconsistent rules of bringing people in the gym , only get 1-2 guest passes Lifte time , after got to pay 15£ , they say they close at 10:00 but shut suana steam and pool everything 45 mins before, wouldn’t recommend for price

Negative experience: I have been going to this gym for 12 months and here is a honest review, Entrance: To get to this gym I hope you drive a 4x4 because the road has more holes than swiss cheese. Every time they fix the pot holes They return bigger and meaner a bit like my ex. The Gym: Where do I even begin? Lets start with the equipment , it’s so outdated and bad!! Continually breaks down and takes FOREVER to fix. One example it took them nearly 4 months To fix/replace the Stairmaster. Not only that they only have 1 set of dumbbells which means everyone is pretty much waiting and sometimes this could be a long wait. If you can’t find the weight your looking for good luck! Make sure to walk the whole gym floor. If you are lucky enough to find it and walk back to your bench unfortunately that too would be gone. All the equipment here is filthy especially the cardio equipment. Oh, while I remember the cable machines break nearly every week without fail so if you are working out maybe map out you work out first. Check to see the machines aren’t broken. More about the gym floor.. There is zero staff on the floor so you will never get any help or have anyone clearing up equipment or just being present. Staff here are non-existent most hide in the offices. I’ve been here for 12 months and yet to know any of the names of any staff that’s how non-existent they are. Parts of the gym floor is peeling off which is covered with brown tape and masked over. Its been like this for months. Gym speakers are broken so if you did want to listen to music you can only hear in certain sections of the gym floor. TV’s, They have TV’s but are not connected to the equipment. So not sure why they have them. They have some cardio equipment no one knows how to use as there is never staff around to show them. Lets move onto shower, spa When I joined the had the works, jacuzzi, steam, sauna. Not only did they take away the jacuzzi they increased the prices of your monthly fee for it. I have only used the showers here once and that was enough. I saw how dirty it was and never looked again. Cancelling your membership, If you want to cancel your membership you have to give them a 1 month notice so bear that in mind. Best to give them the notice on the 25th of every month as it take 5 days to process and your not shafted to waiting around. Overall, this gym is bad! Really bad! Its overcrowded, lacks any sort of excitement. Boring, filthy and not worth the money. If I wasn’t locked in I would have left ages ago.

Negative experience: Stay away from this gym as a member Whos been here for a while you can clearly see all members are slowly becoming sick and tired of the staff (Kevin and Luke) as they verbally abuse customers and have terrible communication skills. They don’t know how to communicate with a member of the public as they go on like there the own the gym and can speak to customers in a very disrespectful manner it’s actually shocking Despite being charged your membership fee you will have to always wait at the reception for Kevin or luke to come out and make a cheeky/rude comment and if you decide to comment back on it you will be punished with a band cause they run the place apparently . In the space of my workout this morning I heard 3 lots of commotion from 3 lots of annoyed members Let’s not forget they try trick you into paying them extra money by telling you they didn’t take the payment and you need to make it there but if you check your bank statements you will see it’s not the case !!! Good luck if you join this gym !

Negative experience: Avoid this club if you want to use the pool. Have had issues with the pools for months, can't seem to get the temperature of the kids pool sorted. The lifeguard on duty agreed it's an ongoing issue but management refused to acknowledge and are plainly rude and unhelpful.

Negative experience: I joined this gym when they had a jacuzzi and great service and very friendly staff. Now this gym has had a change of management. As such they have shut down the jacuzzi and in general there is always some broken equipment or broken services. The general staff are still very friendly, but the managers are incredibly rude. I would not rechommend this gym as you are paying a premium price for a gym which changes its prices so that it rises every 3 months and has the feeling of a commercial gym. If you are going to spend this much, go to David Lloyd’s or another spa type gym, or even save the money and go to a commercial gym.

Negative experience: I have been going to this gym for 6 years now. Equipment has never been updated. Stair master and cross trainer has been out of use since at least October 2023, the showers are awful. They have took the jacuzzi away. Hip thrust pads are so thin and shabby they won’t help. This club is definitely not a top tier club and they keep increasing there prices even tho it’s always rammed and never been refurbed.

Negative experience: Membership prices keep increasing every year despite same equipment not being fixed for months / years, such as spin bikes, female lockers, step machine, cardio machines, costume dryer etc. Jacuzzi has also been removed and replaced with an empty space, instead of extra loungers or anything. Just seems like management doesn’t seem to care about making improvements whatsoever to this gym. The only reason I have remained here is because of the great class instructors and summer pool, which you don’t get elsewhere.

Negative experience: First joined and was great. However lots of problems and if there was a cheaper alternative or even a bit more expensive I would join and am now looking for an alternative. 1.Gym equipment. Old and antiquaintef. Often broken or does not work. Wide range of equipment though. However some parts are missing either lost or maybe stolen. I often see people with bags in the gym. Perhaps they should ban this. 2. Effect of energy crisis. They closed the jacuzzi here and at others to save cost. Didn’t replace it with anything not even an ice pool. Now massive ipen space by the sauna. (They put their prices of membership up as well despite reducing the facilities.) In this space are just floor tiles. It can’t be used as a sun lounge as their is a roof above it!!! Also they didn’t even put up any more hooks to hang towels!!! A club that doesn’t take the opinions of their members into account. I am sure if they had put up the prices even more to pay for jacuzzis the members would have understood and accepted this. I note that other competitors didn’t do this but put up prices ( eg David Lloyd, The Club company). 3. Persistent rumours that the swimming pool temperature and the sauna have had the temperature turned down. 4. The spinning bikes. Circa 20-22 per cent don’t work. Either the bike screen doesn’t work or the gears don’t calibrate at all or the bike doesn’t connect to the screen. So if you don’t turn up early you get a rubbish ride. There are persistent rumours that the bikes will all be replaced. Apparently this rumour now going on for two years. They have labelled up bikes with stars and circles that are faulty. However other bikes still don’t connect to the screen. In order to secure a good bike you need to get to classes at the weekends 30 minutes early!!! ( a bit tricky when the club opens at 8am on Saturday and the first class is 8:15am). Why don’t they just take every faulty bike out and have smaller classes? Good instructors though. 5. Hygiene. Dirty showers. Sometimes water cold. Shame on this club. Gone to the dogs!!! Maybe be they will get proper management in to alleviate the problems at Chigwell.

Negative experience: Good for spin classes, however as a new year treat rather than fix the 50% of bikes that are broken they have chosen to reduce the class size from 40 to 35. Told in March 2023 that bikes were in the process of being fixed but nothing yet.

Negative experience: I've been a member for about 5 years now, very disappointed about how this gym facilities went down hill for last couple years. I am very concerned about the unhygienic state of showers and spa facilities. They had to close sauna and steam tonight 30 mins before with no notice and no justification. I am paying for full member ship for my self and my family but not getting what we pay for. Jacuzzi closed and gym fees went up straight after. It’s time to look for a better gym.

Fantastic experience: My partner and I came to the centre for a tour which was taken by Harry, senior sales executive. Harry was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome to the centre. He was very knowledgeable and answered every question we had. He made it really quick and easy to start a membership and replies very quickly to emails! Negative experience: Constant problems with the facilities, either the pools heating's not working or there's no hot water. Jacuzzi permanently closed. Changing rooms are freezing cold. The main pool has just been closed again for two weeks.... Is this a joke? Gym has always got faulty machines. I used to love it here but within the past year its gone rapidly downhill.

Negative experience: You definitely do not get what you pay for here. Machines are always out of action in the gym and there is no sense of urgency to repair them. They've only have one stairmaster working for months and you can never get on it. Spin classes are often completely booked however when you get there it's hard to actually find a bike that works. Swimming pool had been closed several times this year and is now closed again for a few weeks. The complimentary towels smell. There is one small sauna which is falling apart and really smells. Overall cleaning standards are poor. No Jacuzzi anymore either, they had that taken out because of running costs despite memberships still being high. Really poorly run and clearly not interested in responding to customer feedback. PT turnaround is high.. they do not retain staff due to poor management!

Negative experience: Way past its best and seemingly no interest from management to make improvements. Probably going to sell it to developers ‍♀️ As part of a Joint Pain Programme, I was given 6 months free membership. I couldn't believe my luck and was SO grateful but sadly I soon realised the place is most definitely below par - I actually didn't want to shower there. The fact that the lockers don't lock (in Female changing rooms), and the vile smell in the showers/maggots coming up from the drain (which is apparently an ongong problem with 'drain worms') I can honestly say I don't want to use this place even for free. Maybe there's some plan to drive people away so they can justify developing the site into housing

Negative experience: Since the transition, Nuffield health gym quality has drastically declined. High membership fees no longer match the services, with the jacuzzi closed and the sauna out of order for weeks. Machines always broken, I feel compelled to stay, not out of preference but necessity.

Negative experience: Disappointing and very over priced for the offering. Clearly a top tier site as is constantly understaffed everywhere from the coffee shop, front desk and gym. The changing facilities / toilets and showers are very dirty & stink, showers damaged and hot water constantly an issue (also pool heating with outdoor pool [when open] often being warmer), damaged and defective equpment in Gym, almost 2 weeks no sauna (2/10/23) and several months ago they closed off the Jacuzzis. Well past its day and theres is not really much to go for.

Negative experience: Used to be a very decent gym just after taking over from Virgin active. Now they charge premium membership fees for a club which has closed the jacuzzi. Sauna has not been working for the best part of three weeks. Overall the gym is falling apart. Just had enough. Having to stay here out of force not choice.

Negative experience: I went to this gym last weekend on a 7day free trial and I was done with it after about 10mins. Not even worth the 1 star. That was possibly the worst gym experiece I have had so far. You guys should really consider shutting that place down as I am pretty sure you're breaching multiple health and safety laws. The whole gym was incredibly dirty and smelly, especially the changing rooms and spa area. Equipment in the main gym area were all ancient, and it was obvious they aren't big on maintenance and cleanliness either. Even budget gym chains have way better equipment and cleaning standards. Also the spa area had only the filthy steam room operational, which wasn't even working properly, you may aswell put an out of order sign on it like you did with the sauna and jacuzzi. The "complimentary towel" service was the biggest joke as they're litreally tea towels that scrub your skin off if you use them. I can't beleive you guys actually have the audacity to charge a premium membership with possibly the worst facilities in all of London.

Negative experience: Had a negative experience using their swimming lessons. Made no progress and the teaching methods didn't build confidence - quite the opposite. Was told not to go back to our appointed class but wasn't told an alternative. Poor communication and was told I couldn't be refunded for my 5 unused lessons despite the circumstances.

Fantastic experience: Great gym is good location. Loved the vibe in the gym, plenty of cardio machines and weights. Free parking and plentiful, even though Topgolf can make the place seem busy. Friendly staff too. Would definitely recommend .

Negative experience: I am leaving 1 star because there is no option for zero or minus. For such a big corporation their accounts are diabolical. They Keep sending me to debt collectors for small amounts, for example, £4. I believe this is to do with my one year olds account. Unfortunately, Nuffield are unable to connect mine and my daughters account, so that one direct debit for one total amount is taken at one time. Nuffield are incompetent and do not communicate any issues or outstanding balances, and failed to recognise it’s a fault of their admin/ system. Until you bring to the operating managers attention. Even after meetings and flagging this issue it’s re-occurring problem. Approaching staff, such as receptionist does not work. They simply say “pay your bills and debt collectors. Do not contact you.” Failing to appreciate I do pay my bills and I’m willing to pay my bills except Nuffield have to bill me initially. But I don’t appreciate the first information that I owe money is through debt collector. What sort of accounts and system they have in place is beyond me I do not know any corporation that does not communicate and the first point of call is debt collectors , no wonder why they cannot turn the Aircon on because they can simply not afford to. They are paying through the nose for a third-party company’s to collect money, with out simply doing i themselves with a click of a button.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible facilities especially considering how expensive the membership is. The leg press, an incredibly heavy machine, has screws missing so it wobbles with use. The steam room smells like sewage and the gym constantly has machines out of order. It needs an entire overhaul. And if you dare cancel your membership, they have the most arduous process known to man. Avoid at all costs.

Fantastic experience: Had a class booked with Jack. I was the only person booked on the class. Jack was great and tailored the class to what I was looking for. Made me feel comfortable and pushed me to get the most out of the workout. Can certainly feel it in my legs now. Great session, thanks Jack.

Positive experience: Pros: free unlimited parking, big space, ample machines, towel service (which I did not use). Lockers are digital. It has everything the other gyms has. Cons: indoor pool not heated, it's hard to get into the pool with the steps on the side. Pool floor is made of stainless steel and not tile so its hard to grip the floor. No ladies only area in the gym section. The water pressure in the showers is not strong enough and its not hot enough. Bit of a deal breaker. I had to jump to another cubicle and the pressure and temperature was still bad. Gym wipes and boxed Tissues are not replenished I have to pay £7.50 for tier 1 as my membership is tier 2. Not worth the extra money in my opinion. As the luxury extras are non existent, except for the towel service. I bought my own towel. It looks grand but when it comes to the important things it does not match up.

Negative experience: I have been a member of a few gyms in my time. Moved around a lot and always maintained my fitness. This is the worst gym I have ever been a member of in my life. Broken equipment Dirty Rude staff Over crowded Do yourself a favour - do not join.

Negative experience: The gym air condition didn’t work when I came to use this gym 3 times last month The outdoor swimming pool was disgusting and dirty. The sauna and steam room are so small and barely fit 5-6 people The swimming pool was dead cold This is supposedly be a tier 1 club, I would prefer to go back to Romford or Ilford after seeing this club

Negative experience: Customer service is absolutely disgusting. I have been an employee at nuffield for 8 years. On sunday I decided to go to chigwell for a swim in the outdoor pool. I was with my friend who is a member at st albans. As we arrived the rude receptionist, just srugged us away, no where online does it say that the outdoor pool is for Chigwell members only, i asked to speak to the manager as i had just driven an hour to the club. The opps manager came down (after leaving me waiting for 20mins) who then told me “i dont care how long you have come your not coming in” she was so rude and honestly needs a lesson in customer service! Absolutely awful experience and i hope she is disciplined as everyone i spoke to onsite needed a good lesson in customer service! Absolutely disgusting

Negative experience: Drove 1 hour just to be told me and my friend can’t get into the outdoor swimming pool. I’m a member at St Albans which is the highest tier Nuffield gym (online it says I can use Chigwell as part of my multi club access), as well as my friend being a Nuffield Employee! (So long for looking out for fellow employees)… Nowhere online does it say the outdoor swimming pool is for Chigwell members only and I can’t use the pool. Wasted fuel and time. Argumentative staff and worst ops manager I’ve ever encountered. Couldn’t even make an exception, nor did they apologise to a paying member that spends thousands on Nuffield membership, they prefer to argue. If the staff focused on customer service rather than trying to be the barrier police to people who actually pay for premium membership, members might actually want to return. Seems to be a Chigwell only issue, confirmed by the terrible reviews, as the staff at my local clubs are spot on.

Negative experience: Iv been a memeber for a little over a week , machines are dirty , the machines need updating … whole gym feels very tired and worn out. Generally impression happy to take your money but no investment put back in. Staff need to monitor free weights area and inforce a rule of putting your weights back! Hot tub out of use , also pool is out of use . Would give the Gym zero stars if i could

Negative experience: When joining this complex everyone and everything seems very nice, easy and pleasant. BUT when you decide to cancel, it is a very tedious and difficult process (well it seems they turn it into one). You must send them an email, and they do not reply. When you speak to the staff at the front desk they will just tell you to send them an email. It should be a straight forward process but have been going back and forth and still not cancelled and paying over £80 per month. Really dissapointed. It really seems like a company that just want your money. Never experienced this from other gyms. Was with Virgin previously and they were great but moved homes.

Negative experience: I have been a member of this gym for years and I have only seen it deteriorate. The entire place is overcrowded. You can’t even think of getting into the gym on a weekday evening and actually having an effective workout. I use many different nuffields often and this one stands out to be the worst. At peak times no one puts the weights back, it’s messy and everything is everywhere! Most of the lockers are broken and the whole place is poorly maintained. I much prefer the Romford one, it’s just a shame to see such a good place go down hill. The only good thing about this place is the incredible fitness instructors that run the classes! They are second to none and the only reason why I continue to use this club.

Negative experience: Nothing has changed here, staff still unhelpful, told to go online. What is the point in having staff on reception. I hope you are not picking up bad habits from the ilford gym, unhelpful staff and broken machines

Fantastic experience: I have to say I am very big on customer service and there are 2 ladies especially on reception who are the reason I will continue to be a member of this Gym. One lady called Louise and another lady called Remi. These 2 ladies made me feel so welcome when I first joined early April. They were personable and professional always referring to me, my son(16) and daughter(5) by our names, welcoming us back, asking how we were and genuinely going above and beyond every visit. These two ladies really deserve to be acknowledged because there are many gyms but not many Louise's and Remi's whom make Nuffield Chigwell the right choice. Thank you Ladies.

Positive experience: The staff are nice, but the gym equipment is poorly maintained, with pins missing etc. Spa has been permanently closed, but not reflected in the price. Although as an emergency worker the discount is applied, I feel that there is lots that could be improved without the price being increased. After all the place is always busy, therefore revenue is at a high.

Negative experience: Dated and limited equipment. Can get overcrowded. You pay for your membership but there’s frequent shortages of towels. Certain facilities were not accessible/are possibly still not after what seemed like months such as the hot tub.

Negative experience: All was going well until an email landed that the childrens swim classes will change from a 40 week period to a 50 week period from 17 April. What this means is that the swim classes will take place over school holidays. This is obviously a money-grabbing scheme that they’ve decided to implement as they know fully well that many kids won’t turn up during the holidays. Surely, this should mean that children are likely to move up from one class to another sooner, right? No…clearly not with the way they’re implementing this. Diabolical in these days and times, truly shameful.
