Energize Health & Fitness: Opinions
Negative experience: Unclean, worn out. Nothing works. Staff sitting on their phones with no clue. Not worth it. Its a public health concern and an accident waiting to happen.
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed sauna here
Fantastic experience: What a lovely swimming pool with friendly staff .
Fantastic experience: Great massage and facial as usual
Negative experience: Place is pretty shabby, it needs a good renovation. The one thing that annoys me the most is the lady that runs one of the spin classes. She blasts club music at a million dB and has to shout over her own music for the 3 or 4 people who attend. Because it's such a small place, the whole gym and even outside can hear it. I wear noise cancelling headphones and ear buds and I can still hear it.
Fantastic experience: friendly staff with a good range of equipment, relaxed atmosphere and lovely pool. free parking is a bonus.
Fantastic experience: After putting off joining the gym for so long, I decided to join Energize as it was local to me. The staff are all friendly and helpful, as well as all the members. The manager Michelle is amazing, she has a tough job but always there to help. There are some work that needs carried out \ up grades, but non of this is her or the staffs fault. Highly recommend
Positive experience: I've been a member of this gym for about three years and it’s a decent enough gym but showing its age and needs a good renovation. The staff team is great, with friendly, chatty people who were always happy to help. The turnover is a little high and they’ve had some questionable staff members, but the current team is great. Michelle, the club manager (not owner), is a fantastic lady and great chat, tips, advice on fitness and I feel quite bad for her a lot of the time because of the condition the gym is now in. She works so hard to make the best of a bad situation, as follows... In the three years I've been there, the gym has had zero new weight equipment, and one piece of equipment padding replaced. All the barbells are just dirty and rusting, and you get covered in rust from handling them. The dumbbells have several numbers missing so you're kind of guessing what weight you're lifting from its placement on the rack (which isn't always numerical). There are also several dumbbells that are just brown with rust (literally all over), lying all over the floor, all the time. They also bizarrely jump from 48kg to 60kg with nothing in the middle. The team started to clean off rust a bit, but it seems to have stopped now. There's one bench press, which is almost in clashing distance with the power rack (of which there's also only one). I reported a broken cable/pin system, and it was still broken nine months later. The pool is nice, about a meter and a bit deep, but it's constantly full of children. I used it once or twice but gave up because of the screaming kids. The building itself needs work, but there’s been small improvements which show it’s going in the right direction, the hole in the roof has been sectioned off (but not fixed) so it’s much less of an issue, and if you don’t know it’s there you wouldn’t see a difference. Some nice painting work has been done to make the place a bit fresher, and I hope this continues – doesn’t negate the need for new and maintained equipment but it’s good to see some changes. In the summer, the place is like a sauna, there's a great reluctance to turn on the AC or cover the sun beating through the huge glass windows, and if you look at the annual accounts you can appreciate why, with an astronomical heating and lighting bill. But it’s a gym team, turn on the AC. The thing I love most about this gym is the great sense of community with members and staff, but a lot of the members that made this happen have moved on, staff too. It's such a shame as I do think this gym has great potential, and I thought with new directors in place there'd be great things to come but it's been over three years and the changes are very minimal. Hopefully it gets a new lease of life soon.
Negative experience: This place is a complete misery to come to, we only come because it suits us for swimming lessons. I don't think I've ever been in an operative building in such disrepair, the list is endless, currently sitting on the balcony under a big damp hole in the ceiling. Please for the sake of us all, sort it out.
Negative experience: A half star would be generous. Place is damp and riddled with mould, which the staff ended up getting ill from. Due to the dampness in the building all of the gym equipment is rusting and will leave brown stains on your hands and clothing after training. Due to damp air quality and condensation even the toilet rolls in the building are soggy. The place is a joke. All good reviews on this place are from the previous owner, who also wasn’t great but much better than the current one!! Photos below….
Negative experience: Terrible gym, the place is basically derelict with damp and mould all over the building and severe plumbing issues. In addition, the reception roof has been caved in for almost a year now due to leaks in the roof and condensation issues. The ventilation system is broken with no sign of being fixed which leaves the building with this damp humid feeling throughout. All of the equipment is worn out and/or broken with no sign of any upgrades coming either. If you want to train in anything but a rusty swamp then do not join here. This gym is the laughing stock of Edinburgh, if you pop in and check it out you will see why. Photos below highlighting black mould spores all over the building.
Fantastic experience: Energize is an excellent gym and the staff are very good and they are a friendly bunch too.
Fantastic experience: Fajne miejsce tak po 6 kiedy jest juz bardziej pusto od dzieci
Positive experience: Nice affordable fitness centre. In your membership you have access to indoor and outdoor gym, swimming pool, sauna and classes.
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs, swimming is closed half the time, instructors are rude and don't get me started on their customer service, half a star would be generous
Positive experience: Good gym. Been here for 8 months. Good people. Not much of the young team. Lol
Negative experience: The gym is ok, staff were friendly, but if you join as an adult mainly for the pool, do not as we have tried almost every evening and are always children classes
Fantastic experience: Love this place , amazing staff , great atmosphere great service whole day , love the pool , nice warm and tidy
Positive experience: Very welcome felling with very friendly Staff
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. Extremely professional and approachable
Fantastic experience: Nice people, good environment I love classes
Positive experience: The staff are friendly, it’s easy to book and get a place in a class (unlike other nearby gyms). The gym is kept clean and there’s a relaxed atmosphere. However maintenance issues seem to be low priority. Only a few showers work correctly ie water is very cold and few doors close properly. The small sauna is basically used as an area for drying swimming costumes and towels which I find unhygienic. With all that being said I still use it regularly and wouldn’t dissuade others from joining.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant.
Negative experience: Facilties are getting poor, no wet clothes bags any more and now they got rid of shoe socks.
