The Quays Swimming & Diving Complex: Opinions

2.3/5 (199 Opinions)
Lyubomir Lyubenov 10 months ago

Positive experience: The gym is small and it's lacking equipment

Petya Todorova 10 months ago

Negative experience: Difficult finding pool timetable in advance. I found staff unhelpful and the changing rooms not clean, a lot of things broken. I hope the pool is kept cleaner than the state of the changing rooms. I'm unsure why this was such an unpleasant experience given it's a public swimming pool aimed at encouraging people to be more active. Paid £9 for this too (0.50 booking fee... which wasn't even for the correct swim). I wonder if there is a way for the facilities to be improved and yet the cost to not increase.

Negative experience: There was a worker called siseeliya and she was very rude and she didn’t let me and my friends go through because of our ethnic background she should be ashamed of herself

Fantastic experience: Visited here for a swim last week , first time id been for awhile, the pool wasn't too busy, everything nice and clean and the man on reception at the time (lee) was really pleasant and helpful, good staff make all the difference to a visit...he is an asset to the company! Really enjoyed my swim aswell...will be back soon thanks!

Positive experience: The Quays Leisure Complex is a great space with gym, swim, sauna, steam room and workout classes. Cleanliness has improved a lot and the building is much improved compared to how it was (thanks Jan). Staff are friendly and helpful. There is an excellent cafe to get that all important cappuccino n’ cake.

Negative experience: I bought a year membership as it was cheaper and wanted to swim and gym but I highly regret it, unfortunately I'm stuck until August now. The gym is run down and the free weights area is very poor and messy. But the main let down is the pool. The swimming pool itself is fine but the changing rooms are disgusting. I went there on Thursday and 2 out of 4 of the cubicle showers were broken and put of the 2 remaining I chose the one where the lock was broken and the shower wouldn't turn off. There are open showers too but some of those are also broken. The walls are covered in grime and the toilets smells of urine. The hot tub wasn't open for use either. When I went to the cafe after my gym session on Wednesday I got a red bull as I felt shaky and the woman tutted at me, I felt quite judged for my options, despite them being the ones selling them. Then to top it off, two pigeons wondered into the cafe seating area and no one tried to get them out, just let them continue to make their way around the cafe. Very unhygienic. I wish there was a way to get a refund for my remaining months.

Negative experience: The entire place needs a revamp or closing down. I felt like I went back to 1995. It's tired, run down and the staff are awful. Booked a swim for me and my fiancé, changing rooms were filthy, no locks on the doors for changing, floors were dirty. Entire place is tired, everything is worn, not looked after, not maintained. Was kicked out of the lagoon pool and forced to stand in the freezing cold for 15 mins. Wasn't allowed in jacuzzi, slides were closed, diving boards off limits, forced to swim in a cold pool with a distinct lack of chlorine, the pool was filthy, I could see lots of debris and dirt at the bottom, how hard is it to clean this? Honestly lasted 30 mins and walked out as I was so furious.

CRZYJCKDT 10 months ago

Negative experience: I was highly disappointed with my visit. I thought this swimming pool would be a fun place to visit with my friends however I was met with pure disappointment. Definitely not worth £9. The sauna was full, jacuzzi cold, lockers had no doors, the water was dirty and so was the changing room, I would definitely not suggest going here.

Negative experience: Its terrible nowbere to chill as friends we thought it would be good as its the town swimming centre but no.

Μυριαμ Μακράκη 10 months ago

Negative experience: Horrible service, from a abruptely rude receptionist on Tuesday 28/01 (~5:30pm) who made a big deal out of no booking baby swimming. We didn't know that was required as ex members but either way there was no need to speak to me and my husband in front of our toddler in that way "that is his pool and that we trying to sneak in!".

Positive experience: Great sporting location with good parking, highly recommend.

K E 10 months ago

Negative experience: Absolute joke of a management team, gym closed for theee full days to fix air conditioning not one email to let any members know of any work, I drive in from Eastleigh and haven’t been warned in advance if any of these works it’s absolutely disgusting stay well away from this place and do not bring your children here at all there’s all sorts of health and safety breaches and due to it being gov funded they get away with everything.

Nastia Ryan 11 months ago

Negative experience: Avoid this place at all costs. Rude and unprofessional staff, especially Cecilia, who treats customers like an inconvenience. They charge extra for parking even if you’ve paid for a session – a complete rip-off. The steam room and sauna are always broken, and the overall state of the facilities is terrible. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Luki Lucziano 11 months ago

Negative experience: The quality of facilities is shocking. Changing room for men in swimming pool is terrible. 2 for 7 showers work only and this is ridiculous. The condition of lockers are poor. The jacuzzi is always closed so you can't rest after swimming session.

Charlie 11 months ago

Negative experience: Reception is typical of premises these days that regard their customers as inconveniences. Over ten minutes to process a queue of three! No I'm sorry it's taken so long. Complete ignorance. Poolside staff really friendly and helpful, but what an awful place to work. The condition of the premises is dirty, vandalised, broken showers and an unpleasant experience. Overall, dilapidated. Lockers require customers to take a padlock for each locker required. The most stupid system ever. Absolutely the worst third world swimming place that I have ever been to from many across the UK on my travels. AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE. No reason to go back again whatsoever. Edit: Places Leisure at Eastleigh is a million percent better, better run, clean, cheaper, so much nicer experience. And there is sauna and steamroom.

Negative experience: Worst management I've seen in my life.... Been waiting 3 months for my refund for my sons swimming lessons I cancelled after he was diagnosed with asthma.

Cláudia Nunes 1 year ago

Negative experience: The management focus is selling annual memberships for services that cannot provide. Be careful with swimming lessons for children you will pay but the service is not guaranteed. The only thing is certain is your payment and they will ensure this is done by calling you with promotions for a full year membership. The classes for children are cancelled all the time and they are unable to replace them. The costumer must accept that they are short staffed and this is something usual almost on a weekly basis. After complaining about this situation I had no reply and to be able to speak with the manager took me almost a month. The Manager does not reply to emails and avoids the costumer and dealing with complaints. I would not describe worst service and poor costumer service. Kind regards

Positive experience: I don't know why the Quays gets such a bad press so I thought I'd comment I joined up 3 months ago for a very reasonable £150 per year for all facilities Ok so the changing rooms/ showers are a bit dated but waters always hot and area clean!! The big pool is a little cool but for my Lane swimming is great once you're in and swimming it warms up!! The Staff are friendly and always helpful too Steve

Negative experience: Woman's changing room only 2 showers is working and even there water pressure _ horrible; Hair dryer - safety first

Fantastic experience: Lifeguard was very nice and he dapped me up. ‍✅

Negative experience: Me and my pregnant girlfriend went today as I’d been 9 years ago and knew it was a good pool, when we arrived the receptionists were arguing and unorganised, when I finally got to the front she told me I need to buy tickets online. We went in and the floor had a layer of grime on, the toilets even worse the toilet was wet and dripping. The hot tub wasn’t working and lifeguards took blind eyes to kids jumping in next to people. The windows misty and dirty, tiles around the pool missing bits. I never write reviews but I feel like this needed one.

Name Last 1 year ago

Negative experience: I used to enjoy this place but the last couple of months all I seem to do is get harassed by 1 member of staff but today it was 2 not really sure why I’m the target. At the end of lesson a child was drowning and his mum had to shout “please someone help him” soon as the kids where out of the pool you would of through talking to the mum would of been a main priority but nope the 2 members off staff are harassing me all we was trying to do was get changed and leave. Changing rooms are dirty and also around the pool side was not clean, also smelt like urine in the changing rooms

Ian Harris 1 year ago

Positive experience: Nice morning out with the kids. Pool warm , slides great fun

Qi Chen 1 year ago

Negative experience: Got two kids swimming lessons here, everytime using qr code to get in. The indian lady in the reception stopped us. Giving me the looks like we are sneaking into without paying. Very rude and unprofessional attitude. If your pool still needs to check in personally, why you having the qr scanner? And the showers in ladies room always broken. Update issues: my 4 years old girl got drawn into the pool, and the coach supposed to give her a noodle but she didn't. My girl got very scared to continue the lesson at this swimming pool! Withdrawn the membership, and the manager promised they would refund me the payment, but I have been waiting for months, still haven't got them, emailed them, but without any reply! Please check what the other customers' review, don't go this place, everyone deserves better place, but not this one.

Daniel Clark 1 year ago

Negative experience: The app doesn’t work properly while there and when you get there after paying 100£ membership you can’t even get in half the time it’s going down hill wasted petrol wasted time and money and when I went to complain they give you a blank stair useless

Ali Hirji 1 year ago

Negative experience: This swimming pool reminded me of those I visited when young in North London - which is not a good thing. The changing areas were very dirty and in desperate need of modernisation. The pool water was warm and is targeted for kids. If the changing rooms were cleaner, it would have rated higher.

Hiran Chaudhuri 1 year ago

Negative experience: Happy about the helping hands at the reception. We're in the city for a few days only. The website says you need your own padlock which I am not going to buy for one time use. Thus we considered taking all our belongings inside. To reduce risk we brought only the essential things, which means no phone and no payment cards. But we had not booked online and wanted to pay by cash. The receptionist told us she cannot help us getting in. We went back home and studied more on the website, then stumbled across these comments. All in all the non helping receptionist protected us from more negative experience.

Russell Draper 1 year ago

Positive experience: Swimming was great with a toddler, but if you don't have a padlock for the lockers expect all your belongings to be stolen. You can buy a padlock at the desk for £5.00 or you can take all your belongings with you into the swimming pool area where there is a place to put you belongings. It's not secure but at least you can keep an eye on your belongings.

Fantastic experience: I took the three grandkids to a diving taster session, they had a great experience and really enjoyed it. Particular thanks to Nick who instructed them and made it fun. Thanks, highly recommend.

Kaiser Siney 1 year ago

Negative experience: I understand this isn’t the staffs fault but they’re just trained to force QR codes in your face and use their broken website and app. It’s frustrating and humiliating standing there trying to get everything to work, and after all of this being asked to buy a membership after a negative experience. I completely sympathise for the staff here but the uppers really need to change their systems and training. Luckily the staff there eventually staff would always help solve our issues but once they gave my partner and I a “free” sauna pass which one is too small and always full and is included with your membership anyway and an armband has never been needed in the whole time we were going there. It just felt like tactless defusing. I really wish active nation would improve their systems or training or maybe pay their staff more as I doubt I’ll be returning regardless of a fairly cheap yearly membership with staff that seem stressed, untrained and confused.

Negative experience: **Review for Swimming Lessons** ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I recently had an experience at Swimming pool, while waiting for my daughter to finish her swimming lesson. After her lesson, she went to take a shower, and I found a spot to sit and wait for her. As someone with a disability, sitting is important for me, especially in such environments. However, I was approached by a staff member who informed me that I was not allowed to sit there. I explained that my daughter was in the shower and that I needed to wait for her to help her get dressed. I also mentioned that I had seen other parents sitting in the same area without any issues and noted that there were no signs indicating that sitting was prohibited. While I understand the need for rules, it would be helpful if such policies were clearly communicated through signage so that all patrons are aware. Many parents may not realize that sitting is not allowed, and a polite reminder would go a long way in fostering a welcoming atmosphere. From reading other reviews, it seems that several patrons have encountered similar issues with staff interactions. I hope this feedback can contribute to improving communication and ensuring a more positive experience for families in the future. Thank you for your attention. --- Feel free to adjust any part of it to better reflect your thoughts!

Negative experience: Awful experience. Booking was a nightmare, staff were incredibly rude and unprofessional. Constant delays, false claims of a full pool, and a manager with a shocking attitude. No apology or proper refund given. Avoid this place at all costs. It’s a disgrace to Southampton.

Kevin Feng 1 year ago

Negative experience: This place is absolute rubbish. Its hard to find something to begin on. Firstly, booking. We went inside the centre and asked to book there. They said no in one of the rudest ways ever. I've never seen customer service like this anywhere. After all that It got worse our arrival time was originally 2.35, it kept on being delayed. We were then told we could go in at 2.50 but when we went to enter we then told AGAIN that it was delayed again. We were told the pool was full on many occasions however in no world was that pool full. The staff were rude, ignorant, aggressive and did not speak to any customers in a friendly tone. For example, the so called "manager" told us that it was delayed and as we walked away the first thing he said in a rude tone "would you like a refund". I've never seen staff with that level of audacity to speak to customer in that tone. Prior to that we spoke to the staff in a friendly and welcoming tone. This type of customer service is utterly unacceptable in this society. On top of that we weren't allowed to get a receipt or evidence that we have been refunded. This does not apply to everyone there as one of the colleagues there was slightly more welcoming and wasn't as cold heart and self centred as the others. In future I am never returning to this pool ever again. I would not recommend anyone to this pool again as they have go lt disrespectful and a disgrace of managers and staff and pull down the reputation of Southampton leaving a bad impression for tourists and children

Dozie 1 year ago

Negative experience: My daughter (8) goes to swimming lessons here once a week and an awful amount of these prepaid lessons get cancelled. Her swimming teacher changes frequently and we are not notified about this. The facilities are old, rusted, run-down and unclean. As another person has said, so many showers and even ceiling lights are broken with no apology from The Quays or word about when they will fixed. This is not what you expect when you pay money for a service. It's very disappointing and I wouldn't recommend visiting the complex or signing up for a membership to only waste your money.

Clare Hibbert 1 year ago

Negative experience: Called up to check if pools would be open before going to sauna and leisure pool. Got told you now need to book. It's now 8.40 for 1hr 15mins in the leisure pool. The reception said they will add 2.00 on when I arrive for the sauna. So I register, awful registration page had to scroll back 45 years to add date of birth no way to add manually. I also booked a pool slot. Wow a 50p booking charge. So now the time is limited and the cost of sauna and swim has gone up to 10.90 all in. I thought active nation were supposed to encourage people to get active and healthy but it seems like now you pay more and get less time. Not an incentive to bother. The booking is also not refundable so if you turn up late or miss it tough luck. Not how a pool should run, you should be able to turn up and swim. Awful service.

Gemma Waughman 1 year ago

Negative experience: Awful experience! I only went to go swimming, shower facilities are disgusting, the pool is even worse. I ended up with multiple illnesses which lead to me having pneumonia! It is always extremely busy! Last time I went I was dived on by boys messing around. Lifeguard could not careless and was sat on his phone! Absolutely disgusted that the membership is £35 definitely not worth it!

Positive experience: Visit once or twice a week for the gym 3 hours free parking as a member but it needs a deep clean

Paul Warren 1 year ago

Positive experience: Used the gym Friday lunchtime after recently joining for a year for £100 which was really good value. Gym seems ok, wasn't too busy and quite a few machines to use. Not really been to a gym before so not a lot to compare to, but was alright.

Negative experience: THIS PLACE IS A JOKE DO NOT JOIN So i joined in september 2023 for a year long memnership primarily for using sauna and steam room In november the steam room was closed (apparently they had to order a part which was expected in about a week) 3 months later and the part still hadnt arrived Then they found mold growing in the mens changing rooms (they were dirty and at the time were disgusting plus out of 8 showers only 2 workedso the mens chanhing room closed for around 2 months (you had to use the family area to grt changed) I kept receiving persistent phone calls daily asking me to renew my membership Which came across as money grabbing to me (or panic that they couldnt afford to pay for the broken equipment so were chasing down extra money) I joined jd gyms recently its brand new and everything works plus its clean I got a cold recently so went to ho the steam room today to help guess what The steam room has been broken the last 10 days and theres no sign of it getting fixed anytime soon as i said originally this place is a complete joke do not be fooled into parring with any money theres better options out there locally Id give it 0 stars if i could

Sahrash Jabeen 1 year ago

Negative experience: My 2 year old started his swimming lessons at the end of February and he didn’t receive a single lesson from the teacher as she always busy with the kids whose parents were not in the pool. So I asked her if she could teach my son and I can stay outside, she literally said no because you have to stay inside with your toddler. Anyways after 3 months I have decided to cancel the membership as we’re wasting our time and money and then she said I’m so sorry for not paying attention to your child as I have so many kids in the class so I can’t handle that many. They are not willing to teach your kids just making money. And if you want to book your kids for leisure pool, you have to wait on the reception for ages and in the meantime kids can miss their lessons. Always different staff with no experience. Not recommending

Karin 1 year ago

Negative experience: I used to come here multible times a week 10 years ago, now....I'm sadened by the state of the place! Staff are rude and unhelpful. I went up to the front desk, the two members of staff looked at me, rolled their eyes and kept talking. After a few minutes I said "Excuse me, could I get one adult ticket and one two year old for the pool please." The guy sighed and told me I had to book online, I asked if there was anyway I could buy a ticket there and was told the next slot was full but they had tickets for one in 45minutes. I got the tickets, and we sat down and had some snacks in the cafe. Cafe is small, but cozy and clean, staff there were very friendly and kind. Once it was time to get to the pull, there was no place ro park the pushchair, the lockers all required padlocks and so we had to leave all our belongings unlocked. The pool was okay. It was old, with signs of rust and grime. There was no waterfeatures, like in the pictures. Put the two year old had some fun for 30 minutes, but over £8 for an adult and over £4 for a two year old seems a bit pricey for what it is. This is our nearest pool, so might have to go again, but honestly will rather go less often and make a more expensive trip to Romsey or Winchester. Such a shame, I used to love this place and I'm so disapointed. Also to add: Whilst they suggest to book online, I have not been able to figure out how and they are not responding to my emails asking for instructions on how to book online.

Joanna Worthington 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: We arrived frustrated and fed up having been turned away from taking our Grandson for a swim at Romsey Rapids as they “do not have any public sessions during term time”. We then struggled to book a session online at the Quays. Thanks to the wonderful Sammi and Katie and the friendly lady who took time off from painting a room to show us round, we had a wonderful experience at the Quays pool and afterwards in the café. I can wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful facility and the friendly team including the lifeguards who were all a credit to the organisation. We’ll be back many times I’m sure.

Negative experience: Broken equipment,, Dirty changing rooms, unmanaged pool lanes. Terrible, don't waste your money.

Michael Cook 1 year ago

Negative experience: Awful experience this morning with multiple failings in customer service. I was hoping to go for a swim as a family but was told I couldn't pay at reception and needed to book online. I don't see why I need to go through the website? Clearly trying to grab my personal details. While in the queue, we had to wait 10 minutes or so for the receptionist to sign up a new member. Strangely enough, happy to take their payment at reception. The next customer in the queue was a heavily pregnant member who wasn't able to get through because the lifeguards weren't aware the pool opened at 9am (stated on the website). An argument between the receptionist and the poolside staff proceeded. While in the queue, there were also multiple members of staff walking past reception clearing muttering comments like "we're so under staffed". We chose not put our details in to the website and left. The quays used to be a great place to go for a family swim but unfortunately I got the feeling they are only focused on selling you a membership or getting personal details.

Frank Morrison 1 year ago

Negative experience: Awful venue, expensive for what it is, the changing facilities are grubby, hardly any of the showers work. It’s impossible to get through to them via phone! Even just paying to get in there are huge ques and awful systems which require all your details to register. This venue has got worse and worse as time has gone on. Often they don’t have enough lifeguards on weekends so the flumes are closed. Last time I complained via email received to response. Suggest you swim elsewhere, Holly Hill leisure center isn’t too far away and it a much nicer venue with better parking!

Carla Welch 1 year ago

Negative experience: Lady on reception wouldn't let me in because I had 2 kids. She said 1 adult to 1 kid under 3. NO SIGNS ANYWHERE TO SAY. Quickly checked online that says different, I question her about it and got a rude response of well the website is wrong and thats it. I asked for a manager because this was ridiculous and had just spent money on parking and was then told it was 1 adult to 1 kid under 4 but I can come in just today because the website was wrong. The website, the manager and the receptionist all said different. Clearly no1 has a clue.

Positive experience: Friendly staff, not too pricey and when not busy dont use wristband system. Got slides but wasnt open, but could do with a little slide or someyhing for the smaller ones.

Negative experience: Broken equipment, no sign of it ever getting fixed. Kids allowed to run around gym making a mess unchecked by gym staff. Don't waste your money here.

Jamie T 1 year ago

Negative experience: Regularly disappointing experience. Where do I begin….? Most of the showers are broken, the turnstiles at reception are broken (the guy was just telling people push through the disable gate), we weren’t aware the slides were shut until we were changed and poolside and for the last two Sundays in a row there has been no toilets roll. A lady was stood outside the toilet trying to get assistance from other families as her daughter had been to the toilet and the family changing, male AND female were all empty, someone went to reception and was told there wasn’t any in the building…. How are they allowed to open without fully functioning toilets?

Georgia Peeler 1 year ago

Negative experience: Don't use the swimming pool here, it's always full and they only open 3-4 lanes in the evenings. Weekdays the lanes are so full you can't physically touch the sides of the pool. Sundays are better but they close so early. Morning swims are saved for swimming clubs so anyone who works 9-5 can't get a morning swim ever. Spinning classes are cancelled last minute very often. Would not recommend.

Riaan Uys 1 year ago

Positive experience: Dressing rooms are spacious. There are enough lockers and they have enough room to fit all your items unlike the Bittern branch. Unfortunately, the floors here are always dirty. The slide, which we come for, is almost never running when we are here... And the teenage lifeguard has a look of hatred on their faces and seems to enjoy telling off little kids with their whistles...

Madeleine Palmer 1 year ago

Negative experience: Visited the fun pool at the weekend. Couldn't book online as didn't want to become a member just for a visit (I don't live locally). Turned up to swim during the opening times, the reception took too many details but couldn't explain why they needed them (will be keeping an eye on my marketing). If it was for emergency then they would have taken emergency details surely not just all mine. The cost was high for a family of 4 (two 5and nunder and not tall enough to ride the flumes (of which online doesn't state a height requirement). The changing rooms were really grimy, mouldy, rusty and tired. The lockers need a padlock but doesn't state that anywhere online and the reception doesn't have any to provide to keep your things safe (nor do they tell you. You have to discover that for yourself) the pool itself has tile paint peeling off, looking tired, dirty and grimy. Online it stated that the flumes were on all day, they were not. Only 2showers out of the 4 showers were working. One of the disgusting toilets wasn't even attached to the floor. Honestly, there are a couple of other pools with a flume in Southampton, I'd recommend those over returning to here again. Although active nation have taken over lots of Southampton centres which is a shame as I imagine it's highly paid management with no money looking like it's actually going back into the facilities or lifeguards that the customer is paying for... Update.. 24hrs after our swim and skin is still irritated and we showered off after our swim.. Grimmm.

Nathan D 1 year ago

Negative experience: Been a while since I've visited and it's gone so far down hill. It's getting a bit grubby everywhere and looks like it must be due a major refurb. Lockers are now 'bring your own padlock' which is not evident from the website. Called the end of the session 10 minutes early. Showers were mostly not working. Pool was a bit on the chilly side in the kids pool. Getting a bit on the pricey side too. For £25 for 2 adults, 2 young kids to swim for 90 minutes I'd have hoped for better. Thankfully the kids didn't really notice the down sides and had a good time, but probably won't be going back in a hurry.

Martin CAMPBELL 1 year ago

Negative experience: You need a padlock. They had sold out and the nearest place was a £1 land that had no padlocks. Dirty locker room Dirty toilets Staff unapologetic Suggested leaving bags ‘on the side’ of the pool. Yeah car keys phones and watch left under supervision of nobody in a scummy place, no thanks.

Edita Zielonka 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Great place to go with kids, they love the pool there, changing room needs to be cleaned more often and just 1 shower working in family changing room, however overall very clean place and reasonable prices, thanks

Negative experience: This is a pretty grim place to go to. I paid £10 for a day pass as I wanted to use the pool and sauna. I only found out later the sauna was out of order and steam room is the size of half of my bathroom so I wasn't able to use it. Shockingly dirty and outdated changing room.

Rico P 1 year ago

Negative experience: Embarrassing. Steam room out of action since October 2023 and won't be fixed until March 2024, because they're still waiting for a part, theyve found the part but it won't be posted for another 6 weeks, yeah right. Men's changing rooms closed for 2 months for works only to find it's in worse condition that before causing safeguarding ng concerns as suspect men loitering around the family changing facility undressed. The cafe charges for 30ml of hot water so I can make a bottle for my baby. Shambolic, zero accountability from staff and management. Absolute joke. Active Nation sort it out

adonisuk 2 years ago

Negative experience: Phoned in advance to check price and facilities. Was told £8. Car park provided no contactless, so coins or app. So ended up losing money as offered no change. Went to reception to be informed the steam room didnt work. No reduction in price as 1/3 of facilities werent available. Paid £10..Very small awkward 3 tier sauna, then into a cold hot tub, asked the lifeguard if there was a thermostat as the water was cold, there wasnt. Private showers, one was broken, one wouldnt lock. Spotted at least 3 other broken potentially hazardous showers. Asked to speak with a manager, a very young duty manager appeared, i explained all my issues amd literally his first words were, "i can't issue a refund as you've used the facilities. I hadnt mentioned a refund. Never asked for my details so he could update me after he had looked into it. He never apologised, then when i asked why he hadnt, he said "Im sorry we dont meet your high standards" what the fudge?? You provided me with one of three services i paid for and blame my standards when i complained. AVOID THIS PLACE

Negative experience: We go here multiple times a week and frankly I wish we didn't have to, it's really disappointing. This used to be a fantastic facility but now it's tired, run down and the staff have no interest to the point that they're rude. The tiered seating poolside has broken seats that you fall through, there's never any soap in the toilets and when you tell the staff they either look at you like you've just asked for a kidney, say they'll do it and don't, or on one occasion one member was honest and told me they didn't have any and had been waiting for a delivery. That explained why there hadn't been any for days.......revolting especially when they serve food there. Things are badly organised between the clubs and the centre itself, and messages don't get communicated to the paying members, leading to people arriving for classes with no instructor. All in all, if you can go somewhere else, do.

Negative experience: Absolutely useless and don't respond to event bookings queries. I've submitted a request online, so has my wife, plus I've left two voicemails. Not one single response. I don't know how you're still in business.

Negative experience: Shocking fertility.. very dirty and broken lockers. Never answers phone.. Been trying to cancel membership for days now cant get through and no call backs. I'm sure they will call when they don't get my payment for membership..

Fantastic experience: The lockers have changed from when i was hear last you need to bring a gym padlock and i miss the people dryer but it was exactly how i rembered it and the prefect place for little ones first swimm espeshly with the verry shallow end at the start of the pool all the staff that we saw where smiley and lovely even with the extra stress of half term

Negative experience: Terrible experience. Payed an extortionate amount for a 1hr slot. Wanted to take our 4yr old for some 'fun' swimming. Only to find out no flumes or slides working, No jacuzzi and was not even discounted because of this. We were also not informed of any of this before booking, otherwise we wouldn't of booked. The pool was overcrowded, full of many inconsiderate kids wrestling knocking into the younger, less confident ones. But were not being told by lifeguards. I'm sure this place is now just good towards the diving teams and competition swimming. Pool quite warm and showers ok. But terrible for fun swimming don't bother.

Jon Wickens 2 years ago

Positive experience: I visited to swim in the main pool. First shock was the price, £8! Next shock was the state if the changing rooms. Awful smell, doors broken, litter. You need your own padlock for the lockers. The pool itself is nice but the lifeguards do enforce the lanes. Very slow swimmers in all lanes. Shock number 3, only two working showers in the male changing rooms. This place has lots of potential, it's a real shame it's being left to rot.

Positive experience: The Quays has always been an activity go-to with the kids but I will have to say they have seriously deteriorated in quality and service over recent years. I have used the swimming classes for both my children and the service has dropped where there is no communication when classes are cancelled and the regular shortage in lifeguards does not help with consistency. Numerous parents from the classes have left to use other venues based on the recent performance. The waiting time to enter was more than 15minues despite the que being less than 3 groups (parent/child) The leisure pool became full during the first morning slot and seemed more crowded than the maximum allowance should be. There was no regulation of the behaviour of pre-teens and teen as the inexperienced lifeguards with no whistle or equipment did not intervene and it was left to the parents of small children to manage and control the unruly older users. The venue has potential if staffed and managed correctly. The facility is reasonable but could use an update as the hair dryers that have been broken for more than a year is only recently been replaced with a domestic standard dryer.

Negative experience: Joined the gym in 2020 and during spin class, the Aircon did not work, I left the gym and rejoined again in 2021. Once again, the Aircon was not working. Rejoined the gym this year recently, and was told there is a problem with the Aircon contractor this was the hottest day of the year during a spin class with one small fan. It is totally horrendous how often the Aircon is broken, they have more people coming here than any other gym in Southampton, so do not have work in Aircon is not acceptable, and it should be repaired in no more than 48 hours. Providing one small fan to a spin class, full of 25, people is not acceptable, especially when the instructor keeps the fan pointed on herself. I have now left the gym, as for someone with high blood pressure. It’s dangerous for me to work out in a hot room. My friend still goes and says the Aircon most of the time is broken or next to non-existent. It’s a real shame, as I am aware of several people from the spin class who have now left the gym as it’s just too uncomfortable to work out in that heat. Management should sort it out without coming up with endless excuses

Fantastic experience: This was a fantastic venue for swimming, where the staff sent me and my friend through the gates from our pre-booking! The pool has two booming slides, two hot tubs, a section where a blurred window shines the sun in to sit back and even pop-ups like waterfalls or fountains falling on everyone. Lockers are easy to use, changing rooms plentiful and the area is suitably sized.

pepper Dale 2 years ago

Negative experience: Water temperature lovely and warm in the lagoon. Flumes not on but they don’t tell you that. The changing room stinks of urine. Unfortunately will not be returning again!!!

Daniel Lipscombe 2 years ago

Positive experience: The pool are good, but the changing rooms need a refresh. There is often pools of water sat around the drains, so they obviously need looking at. There is lots of grime around the the floor fixings of the cubicles in the changing area, just not a nice room to get changed in. The light in the cubicles is also terrible. Also the lockers need you to bring a padlock which is a bit weird.

Abi 2 years ago

Negative experience: Really poor service, rude unhelpful staff. Changing rooms not clean, smelly and that you need to go back home to wash. Not worth the money or the service you expect and not only that you have to pay too park. Receipt on the parking ticket is noted your get a discounted price but actually when you show this at reception it's no longer invalid, and they haven't bothered to change it. Something needs to happen.

Kerrie Sandells 2 years ago

Negative experience: Very disappointed they do not take cash when challenged about this apparently since COVID they hadn't felt the need to change things back as sothat everybody gets a fair chance to use the pool, had to leave clothes and belongings at side of pool as apparently no padlocks as available it's pay for padlock or risk your stuff absolutely appalling won't be going back anytime soon!

Brian Lynn 2 years ago

Negative experience: Tried on three days, bought a ticket after providing DNA how many lanes open? Sorry all closed swimming lessons . Next day how many lanes open , come back at 1400hrs that was two hours later , oh we have no lifeguards so main pool closed. Third day overcharged and bought a lock and after waiting thirty minutes at reception told lanes only open for fifteen minutes. So credit my card with the ticket price I paid, three reception staff didn’t know how, so told come back another day to use the credit. So frustrated just wrote off the fee.The reception staff are useless they have no clue. Don’t even bother going there if you want to swim laps . Has to be the worst run pool I have ever visited in the world.

Anna Walczak-Ugwu 2 years ago

Positive experience: It's ok for families with kids. There is a jacuzzi, splashing fountains and cool 2 slides but not always open. 2 saunas. Big main pool with lanes where my daughter has swimming lessons. Lover levels are learning in diving, second smaller pool where water is 80cm deep only. Instructors are changing quite often, which is not so good. Sometimes water is to cold, in winter to cold in changing rooms and way to hot in summer. Cleanliness is so so. Sometimes there is no hairdryers for several weeks. Great location

Negative experience: Awful, will not return... 1) Staff were angry, condescending and just nasty.. completely uncalled for never had a staff member of any business address me so poorly, could name and shame but in general every staff member I spoke to clearly did not want to be there or help me with enquiries. 2) Rather dirty, changing rooms so bad to the degree that you didn't want to walk bare footed on the floor, toilets were disgusting, probably going to get verrucas now. yikes. 3) overcrowded family pool area, session wasn't fully booked, but you couldn't move without bumping into someone. 4) overpriced, you can't sit inside without having to pay from the cafe, (no seats elsewhere though) which is overpriced and not worth it.. let alone the fact the swimming slot was a rush for time and cost over £20 for two adults and a child 5) technical issues with the website making it hard to book online, and as I stated no staff member wanted to help me with this and patronised me as if it was my fault and that I was silly that I couldn't sort out it out, when there was no fault on my part and it was the webpage freezing. Took many attempts to book and thus we missed the booking slot we wanted and had to wait around for the next available. Oh and the flume was shut. Again.. Its always shut! Will be quite happy for this pool to shut down actually.. which is sad to say.. I've been here several times over the last 20+ years and get disappointed time and time again. The last time was my worse experience but I struggle to remember a positive visit.

Slavomir Durej 2 years ago

Positive experience: I had a problem with the app's barcode not opening the barrier. It took over 2 months to finally fix this! Quays hosted a swimming competition on the day of my daughter's swimming lessons. I was NOT notified of this and only found out after I made the journey there in the early Sunday morning. Another problem is with hairdryers. The perfectly good and working hairdryers were removed - as they weren't "safe"? - although every other gym uses them without any issues , I am talking about the ones you can regulate the temperature and the air flow. They have been replaced with the ones consisting of the head attached to the flexible tube similar to ones you can find on vacuum cleaners. They are slow, inefficient and they get quite hot!. What's worse, they have now already broken 3 times! Last time they even started smoking! (So much for the "safe" replacement! ) As a result, 70% of the time there are no functioning hair dryers, which is quite bad when it's cold outside and your child has long hair. We will be going to a different swimming pool after our daughter finished the stage she's at right now.

Adrian Lewandowski 2 years ago

Negative experience: Extremaly poor customer service, greetings " whats up" did not promise anything good, but we let it a go, triple charge membership and 2 months waiting time for refund was a bit anoying, but we still belived that a mistakes happen, finally cancelled lesson and promises of another refund did not happen so far, again after 8 weeks still waiting, todays follow up end up with Reception Team lies and pretended to be a manager, arguees and rise voice when we discovered that we speak just with Team Member was shocking experience. Never again.

Luke Williams 2 years ago

Negative experience: Went to the Quays today with my son. I've been a few times before but today was the absolute worst. Upon arrival you can't simply ask for tickets without having to go through an extensive online booking process. Staff seemed irritable, unhelpful and fed up, not overly surprising given the Saharan heat they have to work in. The locker rooms are dated, grubby and could really do with a spruce up. The pool itself is just so bland, no jets working, no slides in operation due to 'lifeguard' shortages and yet they pack the pool to a point where you can barely move or swim. Couple that with rowdy groups of idiots and it made for a wholly unpleasant experience. Safe to say I won't be returning and only went today whilst other family members went to a birthday party. Avoid at all costs.

Franco Bosi 2 years ago

Negative experience: Used to come here to swim one or twice a month; booked a time slot online every time and paid a single entry; the system worked. About a year ago they changed it, now you can book only if you pay the entire monthly subscription, reported this a couple of times but was ignored. It would be nice if Southampton had a swimming pool to service the community...

Ben Godfrey 2 years ago

Positive experience: A nice swimming pool for the children with a slide that the kids say is a lot of fun. Staff are friendly and I find the lifeguards attentive. The changing rooms have always been clean when I’ve visited and the showers hot. Bring a padlock for the locker! If you forget I think it costs around £5 to get one from reception. Great to bring little ones during the day when it’s quiet.

Andrew Carey 2 years ago

Negative experience: I have had to cancel my membership here and reinstate my membership at "the gym" which is just down the road and cheaper. Gym equipment is "fine", but nothing compared to nearby The Gym (which is cheaper). Particularly irritating is the fact that several machines are out of order on a weekly basis. Cannot remember going to the gym at any point and finding all the equipment in working order. Pool also fine - but only available extremely limited hours in the week because swimming lessons/club take priority. If you work full time, you can either go to the gym post 7pm or from 7am- whenever you need to leave for work (for most people this is around 7:30). Swimming club has the pool from 6, and although advertised public swimming runs until 4, you will be removed from the pool around 3. So even if you work from home hours are limited. In half term or weekend forget about it. Pool opening hours aren't advertised accurately, so I've arrived many times to he told the pool is closed. There are no signs to tell you this either, so you don't know the pool is closed until you're there in your swimsuit. Unless you live close, don't bother.

Negative experience: We booked swimming for 1pm got to there for 12.45pm and spent 40 minutes trying to park, and still couldn’t. So we left, parking also charges. We went to Romsey rapids instead, plenty of free parking! Wouldn’t recommend simply on the fact they didn’t build the car park with people in mind spaces are tiny too! Can’t comment on the inside. Only way in are stairs though, would’ve been no good for us with the pushchair anyway.

Jakub Siewniak 2 years ago

Negative experience: Queued up for about 20 minutes to find out that its a booking only. Lady at the reception said that i can quickly book it on their website and come back. Registered, tried to log in but unfortunately the website did not let me log in. Queued up again for 15 minutes so they can manually create a booking for me since i now had an account created. When i explained my situation, staff member said that they are fully booked for today anyways. Thank you for wasting my time, couldn't you just tell me that it is fully booked at the start?

Nat K 2 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible customer service at reception. Very unhelpful. With the membership you are given a parking permit. A staff member wrote this out incorrectly, but now it's my responsibility to pay the parking fine. With that he says "life isn't fair". Absolutely disgusting.

Negative experience: I was at the pool today and they charged me more then is shown on the webside taking only card what is rediculus at the public pool all the place is dirty and the tiles at the pool are rusty. The employees are rude and not polite ( everything is more important then the customers ) all place is overpriced and under equipped for modern times

Sylwester Stępień 2 years ago

Negative experience: Nothing new from last 15 years. Kids pool is boring during the week becouse nothing is working there.. 5 pound for the locker... Water stuck on the floor in one cabbin in the changing room..disgusting Have to pay for carpark .

John Groves 2 years ago

Negative experience: Family fun swim. First time coming here. Cleanliness around the pool was lacking big time. For 21 pounds for a family of 4 not worth it. Slides not open till 12 and for a city the size of southampton the pool is so small and outdated.

Dawid Lis 2 years ago

Negative experience: Zero star review Wanted to go swimming with my daughter at the weekend. I tried couple of times and I was never able to book a slot and I can’t even book in advance. Their website is horrendous, staff at reception seem to have better things to do and send you to their awful website. There is no place in Southampton to just go for a swim with the little ones when you want to.

Laura sayburn 2 years ago

Negative experience: Dated, dirty, slides not in operation and over priced considering you can only access the very small kids pool. Half of the showers were out of order and the 2 that were in operation had no lighting and doors with broken locks.

Jackie Negus 2 years ago

Positive experience: Plenty to do here, gym, classes and swimming pool. Nice leisure pool for younger children. Very good value, however I do feel, the changing areas are a little tired. Lockers don't feel overly safe .

Anita Kis 2 years ago

Negative experience: I've used this swimming pool for years now and I see the level of service dropping. At my first pregnancy they provided active nation free swimming card, now the cashier lady said it is not available. Today I went to splash with my kids, and the lady at the till didn't let us in because they are under 5. My daughter will be 5 on Sunday AND my husband was allowed to go in with the same 2 kids 3 months ago. I'm upset and disappointed, as I had to turn back with my children from their surprise activity and I've already paid for the parking. Ruined our day, thank you.

Al Pearson 2 years ago

Negative experience: I really hope this place improves and listens to some feedback. I just got a membership this week but think I will cancel it because 1) the pool swimming isn't until 7.15pm in the evening. (I finish work at 4pm but the whole time until 7.15 is not available.) furthermore its really booked up and there is only a small portion of the pool for swimming lanes. This needs changing. Even if its not every night. 2 nigtt a week with more swimming would make so much sense. 2) there are not many classes that I can attend because they are either during the workday or fully booked. I tried to book onto yoga, in advance, but it's fully booked. Been trying to get in all day but no luck :( 3) the facilities need an update. The studio smells of mould and has a constant beeping sound. The toilets/changing room are grotty with broken locks.. It feels ikky getting changed there. 4) the queue to get in. If you want to swim, you have to book in advance, then queue when you're there to get a wristband. The queue is always long, maybe ten minutes, and yet the swimming slot is quite short. 5) the cafe is shut in the evening, but a lot of people will be going to the lane swimming /gym in the evening. Hopefully the swimming times can change, the classes can be more geared towards the evening so people who work /study can go. And the mould/damp issue sorted out. Venue is in such a great location fingers crossed can make some changes. (Tbh i think this place could benefit from some money being thrown at it in terms of a revamp of changing areas. Updating the website so the necessary information is on there.) If you're going remember to take a padlock or you have to buy one there. Thanks

T 2 years ago

Negative experience: Staff are nice but changing rooms smell like urine and are not clean enough. Not enough lanes open for lane swimming and priority given to swimming clubs. Showers are cold. Just generally run down and a bit dated. App is awful too.

Steph T 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Well equipped gym. I visited the gym whilst staying in Southampton on a pay as you go basis (Thursday afternoon for £7.85). Pricing for pay as you go was not shown online so had to email. Parking is not free on the complex car park. Staff were friendly and had to let me on to the gym floor as a members card is required. Gym had everything I needed to complete my regular strength and conditioning session but would have been good to have some resistance bands on the gym floor. Padlock is required for the lockers. Changing room was serviceable but a bit grim. I’d come and use the gym again

Michas Pan 2 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible place , mess everywhere, jacuzzi doesn't work , prices from space . Never open for the public always lesson or something like that maybe 2 hours per day when people allowed to use swimming pool. Only booking online ,not accept cash , the worst swimming pool I ever see. Do not waste your time

Richard Webber 3 years ago

Negative experience: Can't say I'm very impressed. First time visit but despite there being a reception you need to buy tickets online. You need a padlock for the lockers, which I didn't see mentioned on the website. That meant an unexpected fee of £5 to buy one from reception. The entry time was 11 and finish at 12:15 for the leisure pool, but the slides don't open until 12, giving the children just 15 minutes on them. You can't move between the leisure pool and main pool (you could when this place first opened) which is really frustrating. We won't return.
