Europa Pools Leisure Centre: Opinions
Positive experience: Pros; Toilets on both levels Snack and drink vending machines Seats and tables Gym dont seem busy as far as I know my self at the time I go there at the moment. Cons; (If the leasure center gets all these things fixed, then I will give them 4 stars) So I have seen 5 issues at the europa leasure center. (1) this 447 locker lock is faulty Because i was putting the 20p in the lock then push it in the hole, then closed the door then turned the key, many times but i could not get the key out, after trying it a few times, I then tried another locker, the other locker lock worked on the first attempt. I had a look inside that other locker, to see how the lock works, that i worked out how the lock, so this is how the locker lock works; (100% working locker lock) 1.put a 20p coin in the top of the lock hole 2.push the 20p coin in lock hole 3.close the door 4.then turn the key fully without letting go of the key (then once the door is closed) 5.then you let go of the key. (then the coin then drops into the bottom hole.) 6. Then take the key out of the locker lock. But with the faulty locker it dont work all the time, i will explain below why it dont work all the time; (Not - 100% working locker lock.) 1.put a 20p coin in the top of the lock hole 2.push the 20p coin in lock hole 3.close the door 4. Dont always work on this locker lock I will explain why it dont work all the time; It dont let you turn the key fully without letting go of the key, because before you you turn the key to the maximum turn it can reach, the 20p drops, so step 5. and 6. don't happen. [Don't happen; (then once the door is closed) 5.then you let go of the key. (then the coin then drops into the bottom hole.) 6. Then take the key out of the locker lock.] [The photo i provided is a photo obviously showing when the locker lock did work, because obviously you can see the key is not in that locker lock, that is why i said (not - 100% works) as obviously it works then other times it dont work] (2) The gym manual weighing machine don't work - (3)Digital weighing machine might have a fault, because it kept saying (stand up right), when I was standing up right. I felt I was standing up right for over 5 minutes. Anyway then I bent over a bit to look at the machine, to see why it dont seem to be working, then it started printing the receipt. but then obviously it shown the wrong hight measurement, now to me it could be any of these; (A)I did something wrong. or (B)it takes a few minutes to wait for the person to stand up right, but because of that, then keeps saying (stand up right) (C) it has a fault. (4) The first (cross trainer) gym machine left middle handle with the (-) (effort/level) button on it, dont work. but the right middle handle with the (+) (effort/level) button on it, does does work. even though the screen section button to change the (-) (effort/level) does work. But it is inconvenience to use the screen section buttons to adjust the (effort/level), when you are exercising, because the handles keep getting in the way. also because you can't use any buttons if the pedals or and handles are not moving, because these cross trainers shut down when the pedals or and handles are not moving, because obviously these cross trainers turn on by the movement of the person using it. [Update - now I also I found out that: The 3rd (cross trainer) gym machine right middle handle with the (+) (effort/level) button on it, dont work. but the left middle handle with the (-) (effort/level) button on it, does work Also The (back) (cross trainer) gym machine left middle handle with the (-) (effort/level) button on it, dont work. but the right middle handle with the (+) (effort/level) button on it, does does work.] (5) The (book and register) machine don't work, so a member of staff have to book and or register customer in, great if you like to interact with people, not great for people like me and others who dont always want it interact with people. (6) (look at the screenshot of the issues, as I have no more characters)
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for the gym, swim even a steam room.
Negative experience: Never the right time to go for a swim and staff for kids lessons frequently off sick and cancelled on the last minute
Positive experience: This place got lots of potential but council ruined it... Still goood for swim and gym
Negative experience: Used to be good. Now it's become yet another gym, except it has no soul, terrible food and rude staff. The fun pool really made the place. I'm beyond disgusted with the council for their decision to close it. When the inevitable happens and the place closes, it won't be a loss anymore. Which I suppose is what the council always wanted.
Fantastic experience: A nice place to add some muscles yh
Positive experience: Great gym, everything I need, opens nice and early, friendly crowd, helpful staff and good value for money
Fantastic experience: This place has a very good gym , swimming pool , and steam room
Fantastic experience: The favourite place of my kids
Positive experience: Very nice gym, pool not as suitable for kids due to depth
Fantastic experience: Went today Fri 23rd August, the blonde lady with glasses working there taking booking etc couldn't have been more helpful. Very happy
Fantastic experience: Well worth the monthly membership. Good choice of classes, steam room and gym. Haven’t used the pool. clean in changing rooms and other areas.
Fantastic experience: Great accessibility. Friendly and helpful staff. Signed up for the gym and given an induction with Marvin. Couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and encouraging. Will 100% be signing up and starting my gym journey here. Pool is always nice when I used to visit, now and then. Good for lengths no matter what level you're at. Loads of classes spread out too. All in all, a huge benefit to the local area and a beacon of wellness which doesn't judge and offers itself at an affordable price for all.
Negative experience: I'm trying to find a place to take my 10 month old swimming. This would have been perfect, being right beside our home. I think it's very disheartening to swap a children and family space for exercise machines. Where can we go now?
Negative experience: When this place opening many years ago it was fantastic 1st ever pool With waves and slides. Unfortunately due to cost it’s has slowly but surely deteriorated. The changing rooms are dirty. Nothing seems to get fixed. The pool doesn’t have any water in now but has gym equipment in it. So sad
Negative experience: Why give the kids and families somewhere to go when you can just make the whole thing a gym? Something the Wirral is lacking is a gym and it’s good we finally have one here. Sod the kids, eh?
Fantastic experience: Clean, sociable environment. With a monthly pass it is very cheap. Love place
Positive experience: Good gym good swimming pool can sometimes be busy in the pool
Negative experience: Terrible customer service and staff were all sharp and rude..i belive from the reception staff to the pool staff they all need to be sent on courses on how to speak to and treat customers..waste of money find another pool
Negative experience: Pool area is very small and the water is not clean also most of the lockers are not maintained.
Positive experience: The staff are friendly & helpful. The pool could do with being a degree or two warmer.
Positive experience: Needs to be maintained more, broken lockers doors on changing rooms, old gym equipment
Fantastic experience: Had an aqua aerobics class here, great fun but still a work out nevertheless, Lynn really puts you though your paces however you can work to your own ability. Plenty of lockers and cubicles, it was our first visit here only because our similar class at Leasowe leisure centre was cancelled but it won't be the last.
Fantastic experience: Nice place to go for fuming and swimming. I love family time over there.
Fantastic experience: Nice chilled gym
Positive experience: Nice centre with a good few facilities, our kids use it for school swimming - much preferred it when it had the slides and waves.
Positive experience: Great friendly staff, good gym. Not used any of the other facilities
Positive experience: I'm glad to get back into the aqua class and gym
Negative experience: An absolute travesty that the children and family pool have been replaced with a gym. People used to travel from all over west Cheshire and Merseyside to come here. So many weekends of my childhood and teen years spent here. It was my favourite place in the world growing up besides going on holiday. I am gutted that I won't be able to bring my own children there. I love swimming and now live in Birkenhead but cannot bring myself to step foot in the place, it would be too upsetting. I will be travelling to the oval in Bebington. It was getting kids and teens out of their rooms and playing and exercising and spending time as a family. Will have to travel to Stoke on Trent for anything similar, but it will be worth the trip.
Fantastic experience: People are lured into a great big pit full of water. They paddle about from one end to the other looking for a way out. Occasionally, someone gets lucky and manages to find the escape ladder. Absolutely crazy! Highly recommend.
Positive experience: It's cold❄, the floor is uneven and the lockers don't work but there's fun house mirrors in the gym
Fantastic experience: Nice pool nice staff gym good to
Fantastic experience: Good price. Good ratio of machines per person available in the evenings. No PT available. Friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing workers and facilities. Someone of the staff, I have known since I was a baby, some of them are only new but the thing that ties them together, is their warmth and compassion. I’m disabled and weary about going places, sometimes people stare and judge me but I know, whenever I’m at Europa, I’m safe, I’m sound, I’m looked after and encouraged to come back and work on my health. Some of the kindest people I’ve ever met! A big thank you to the staff for making fitness and kindness so readily available ❤️
Fantastic experience: Not a fun pool anymore it's a training pool an gym no good for the kids everywhere shutting down guttered as my daughter loved it but staff are great an if member its free parking
Negative experience: Planned to take the family to the iconic family pool, to find out it's ANOTHER GYM. Gutted
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and a great gym!
Negative experience: What has happened? Is this a gym or a place we can actually swim!? It’s changed so much and unfortunately not the better. Really sad.
Negative experience: Travelled a long way to use wave pool and slides as advertised, arrived to find been turned into a gym. Tiny pool which is mostly closed off, very disappounting
Negative experience: Absolute disgrace they closed the fun pool to make way for yet another gym. Europa Pools used to be one of the best swimming pools around and now it’s just reduced to a lane pool that ain’t good for families
Positive experience: The Adult swim is £5.60 but still good value .Pleasant atmosphere .enjoyed my swim.
Fantastic experience: Clean changing rooms and facilities. Lifeguards were friendly.
Negative experience: This is just an abomination absolute awful now. No cafe , no kids pool. Lane swim time table is just a joke aswel. No acces for disabled people for pool & when I asked it was "too much of an effort opening & closing the gate to get in" so I had to climb in and out after recovering from a spine operation. There is absolutely no safe place to go now for disabled people to exercise. I have to tavel to the Oval to do my physio in the pool. Such a massive let down this place now.
Negative experience: Kids pool should not have been removed. Worthless
Negative experience: One stop shop sh_t house people and service not helpful total crap
Positive experience: A nice gym and swimming pool. Not as many equipment as other gyms , but it is just £15 for students .
Negative experience: Very dirty I can’t believe how dirty it’s filthy place just check the steam room ♀️
Fantastic experience: My go to gym, normally plenty of room but can get busy early tea time. Never any attitudes in there or insta wannabees. Affordable membership and plenty of classes to choose from. Worth a go....
Positive experience: Expensive for just 1 hour. Safety is a bit too tight - can't practise with kids in deep end.
Fantastic experience: I go twice a week. Lovely place, friendly staff .
Negative experience: this stinky gaf should be no more, to think that you would remove the pools from here is vile and down right horrible it was something that everyone looked forward to, i will never be returning to this place anymore i wish they never removed the fun pool as it was Fun im deeply disgusted with the decisions being made here idk who runs it but they are a sausage and should no longer be allowed to make decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Positive experience: Took my grandson, good facilities, nice reception staff, free parking, however-wasn't allowed to use the deep end, due to an overzealous lifeguard saying my grandson couldn't swim and would drag me under! (We cold-water swim spring summer and autumn!) we were stuck in the 0.9m shallow area, which felt punitive, (I'm 182cm ) a guy was called a liar by another guard, when he protested that he had not long got in, in front of his young daughters when told to get out. The Manager was reasonable, sadly it was far from a fun experience, we have no plans to return.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and good swim
Fantastic experience: Lovely here used to live in birko then moved to crobsy but couldn't let go of this place so I get the train down 3 nights a week and it's lovely staff are kind and helpful and the facilities are new and modern highly recommended ☺ ♂️♀️♂️♀️⚽️⛳⚾️⛸
Fantastic experience: I swim there because I have a membership there's a 2 meter pool for people that can not swim and a big pool for people that can swim its a long pool so you can practice your swimming
Negative experience: contacted them directly and was told swimming was on at 1345. arrived with 2 toddlers and receptionist shrugged his shoulders and said no it’s closed!!! genius’s!!!
Fantastic experience: Haven't been here for many years took my daughter swimming a couple of times over the school holidays and was pleasantly surprised. My local leisure center was closed down because our amazing council decided they needed to make financial cuts. Well run, clean and friendly staff at a good price. The pool is a good size and it wasn't busy. Only negatives I have are there aren't many public/family swim sessions and now the new term has started there are even less. 3:45 - 4:45 three days a week and three hours on a saturday isn't great when most kids don't finish school until 3:20 and I'm sure I'm not the only parent that works saturdays. Also why did they need to close the other pool and make another gym? There are plenty of options when it comes to a gym on the wirral. I can recommend a great one in Upton called Gravity. On the whole though very happy with my experience, would definately recommend this leisure center.
Negative experience: the service leaves a lot to be desired. I had a very bad experience buying an Americano coffee. The coffee was not hot and was served like clear water. I showed this to the person who served me and I was told that the problem was with the machine. No other solution was offered.
Negative experience: Used to be 5 stars but not any more! I am not from the wirral but have been coming over from Liverpool for over 20 years to use this pool. My son also loved ìt but was devastated when we came last week and the fun pool had gone to make way for yet ANOTHER gym which is just not needed. There are gyms everywhere! Why take things away from children to replace them with something that isn't needed? I don't believe that the pool was not being used as stated in other reviews. Everytime I came it was always busy!
Negative experience: "Pools" should be removed from the name. Absolutely nothing exciting about the one single rectangular pool...
Negative experience: Closing the leisure pool was a massive oversight taken the place from a solid 4* to barely achieving 1*
Fantastic experience: Went here today with my 4 Yr old daughter to do swimming lessons the instructor was amazing with her thank you
Fantastic experience: gym is very big and its amazing. The communtiy is amazing and the facilities are all working and are very clean.
Positive experience: Communist swimming ono oh one. Set time : check Set date : check Lane barriers in place : check No diving: check No splashing : check No smiling : check Definitely No laughter: check Is it worth going for a swim in comasar Boris's loonies running the asylum fallen little dritain.. The new not normal stinks But Yes go get wet / I did n had the whole pool to myself for five min at the end at least..
Positive experience: Not great as very hot new gym as was old pool area converted. Only pool now is a lot of club training and competitions so not enough public swim times available.
Negative experience: Second time I’ve tried to come swimming at Europa pools! Only to be turned away! How can a pool not allow people to swim on a Sunday, lessons only. Maybe you should put this on this information on your Google page.. no swimming on a Sunday, would of been helpful.
Fantastic experience: Went for swimming lessons for toddlers. The staff were really amazing and the facilities are great. They have also got a great gym
Fantastic experience: Very good. No problems.
Negative experience: The Place Is Really Nice But they got rid of the wave attraction which i am deeply sad that it has gone. I would like to bring it back
Fantastic experience: Just joined swimming for a month. Im absolutely loving it. You can go different days of the week for a lane swim ♀️ Ivre just lost my dad and its helping my mental health. Also the staff are lovely! X❤
Negative experience: No leisure pool = 1 star. I'd give minus 1 if I could
Fantastic experience: Whilst appreciating that the loss of the fun pool has made a difference to many, my gym membership is much improved by the new gym. Lots of new faces and new equipment. I was going to join the new gym opening in Birkenhead but I am more than happy to stick with Europa now. Staff look pleased to see everyone after what was a tough time in the last two years.
Negative experience: The closure of the fun pool at youth's expense is a disgrace. I'm not from the Wirral, but travelled 14 miles across the Mersey to bring the kids here every week before the pandemic, and sometimes during the week for Aqua Tots if we were off work. The kids are devastated they can't go, and there's nowhere else like it. They loved the "bubbly pool" as they described it, and the wave pool, plus the fact they could walk in at their own pace to a comfortable depth. Blatant bias and ignorant decision made by the council to close it, opting for financial benefit in the short term rather than health and welfare in the long. There was no requirement for another gym on the Wirral, or even the whole North West. It's just been done for quick financial return. Any paper work issued is clear narrow-minded statements with the only intent of keeping the pool closed. It is a little run-down, but with the right management, advertising, and minor makeover the fun pool alone would've been an attraction many families will have travelled for. Nobody I speak to even knew it existed. Safe to say, there's nothing there that's worth visiting now!
Negative experience: Only reason we ever went here was for the Family pool with the waves etc. Kids loved it. Now panelled over to make space for yet another Gym. Wirral has hundreds of Gyms, why sacrifice the best family pool in the area for yet another gym? Good old council. Won't be going again.
Fantastic experience: I used to attend the disability swim many years ago at this leisure centre. It was perfect for somebody with severe visual impairment and I used to have my niece and nephew with me. The session was between 12 pm and one. Alas now it’s at about 3:45 pm. The staff were absolutely lovely. I recently trained with my new Guide DogMason and the staff looked after him wonderfully while I was in the pool. The staff are so lovely and respectful and very helpful.. I travel from Sefton Merseyside because alas, they’re not as progressive as the wirrel, they don’t have separate disability swimming sessions.
Fantastic experience: Good gym staff are really helpful on hand to help you with exercise
Negative experience: Absolutely gutted the wave pool has gone. Broken both of my children's hearts, ridiculous. Absolutely no reason to empty the pool.
Fantastic experience: it's wonderful and beautiful The problem is that the pool is crowded
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility can't believe the council want to close it to build houses
Positive experience: Always a great time with the kids, they love it here. Only two slides but they are both fun and child friendly.
Negative experience: Should be open by now for kids. People can go clubbing, festivals bars and restaurants etc for a month now. this is a disgraceful excuse of a council more interested in putting their feet up than serving the people that pay their wages
Fantastic experience: Waiting patiently for this play pool to open. My kids love the slides and waves.
Positive experience: Booked online and the actual pool suitable for kids with the waves etc was shut for refurbishment until next summer. Instead we had a lane swim which wasn't ideal as I had a baby and would have liked to be able to sit down in the water with him.
Fantastic experience: Visited Blue Badge department for advice. Extremely helpful. Excellent.
Negative experience: Trying to book a time on there site is hard work just wanna take my Granddaughter for a swim
Negative experience: Great if you can get a booking. I have a pay monthly membership and struggle to get times to suit me. I am also trying to do the SWIM22 Challenge for Diabetes UK. I have to do 119 lengths per week just to stay on target. Europa is the best out of all the pools because you are still able to use the showers. I can't book a family swim for my Son and I because there is no option for just two of us unless I am prepared to pay over £15 so my Son hasn't been able to go swimming at all. My complaint is about the booking system not the venue.
Negative experience: We didn't go to swim, we went to renew my husbands parking pass ! He is 82 years old and has had COPD for the last 10 years !! It was like being interviewed by the SS !! It took nearly an hour of non stop questions. Normally it takes 10-15 mins.
Positive experience: Water super, but booking system very bad
Fantastic experience: First time I've visited this pool and first time swimming since pandemic started. Very well set out and felt safe. Will definitely be back
Fantastic experience: Great swim, very safe credit to the staff
Negative experience: My daughter has been having swimming lessons here since last year, obviously they were halted while they where closed for covid, we've just been informed that we apparently cancelled her lessons in June, no we didn't, and if we wanted her to carry on she would have to go on a waiting list and pay an extra fee to do so. This is made all the more confusing when we got a message a month ago to say her lessons would be starting up again in December, so how did we cancel them in June. It seems to me this is a flat out lie just to get more money out of us, we now have a distraught little girl who can't understand why she can't go back. Please avoid going here for your children's swimming lessons, you will be lied to and attempted to be ripped off.
Fantastic experience: Not very big but the wave pool is great, I wish they had a wave pool like this in Liverpool
Positive experience: Today I when there for a coronavirus test! Will get the results the next 48 hours
Positive experience: Local gym and swim , great venue lovely team running the place.
Positive experience: Great fun for adults and kids alike great pool, waves, bubble pool, double water slides.
Fantastic experience: Kids enjoyed it changing rooms a bit old fashioned but who cares no one seen me in the nak so all good
Positive experience: Always enjoy it here, very friendly. Parking a nightmare.
Fantastic experience: It is great fun. Good place for a nice weekend relaxation swim.
Positive experience: This pool is okay its been the same since my childhood, Not much for the babies only a small little pool, The food has gone down hill alot got my baby some beans and smiley faces, They where half frozen still, Another downside is the management for the queuing process, The person in charge with the line stands at the very front so if your middle of the line or at the back you are clueless if your getting in or not, Only during school holidays this is the case, *A little suggestion a lot of people in the queue said it was a very good idea when i said it. Have an LED counter placed at the entrance stating how many places are left to be allowed in, Can easily be controlled by the cashier once they let somebody in. Also you can monitor the queue throughout the school holidays and work out the average time it takes to serve a customer, This would then give you an estimate of the queuing time, You can then place a sign with an estimate waiting time from this point. Having something like this will save a lot of people moaning when they are refused entry until the next session. I know it is health and safety letting too many people in and i can understanding being refused entry. But some indication for the queue will help a lot Thanks Adam
Fantastic experience: Great place, well run, I wish the council would spend some money on the place and get the slides improved/modernised, they're a bit poo
