Active Leicester - Aylestone Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Terrible place changing rooms are filthy showers don’t work properly staff are so rude not recommended you will waste 30.00
Fantastic experience: Romain is such a great teacher. He understands every child's swimming needs. My daughter only wants to take swimming lessons with him even if she moves up levels. He is very patient and calm with all children.
Positive experience: Very good centre, refurbished, good environment, friendly staff. Two pools, one for the kids and one Olympic size. Only gripe is the showers, should be more showers in the men's.
Positive experience: Been going here since I was.kod, daughter now has swimming lessons. Staff are great, some parts could do with an update and some have had a fulll refresh. Just your standard pool and leisure center.
Positive experience: Aylestone Leisure Centre is decent but could use some improvements. The facilities are just okay, with the badminton courts being a bit below average in quality. For non-members, the charge is £3.80 per session, which is fair but doesn’t quite match the experience. Fine for a casual game but could be better maintained.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to play badminton. Very friendly staff.
Negative experience: Insanely long answer times on the phone . You’d think picking up a phone would be easy but no . It’s quicker to call and get information/book a table at a Michelin star restaurant before Aylestone leisure centre pick up . I’ve waited more than 45 minutes countless of times and most times it’s around 15-20minutes on the phone . Terrible service to customers who pay twice a week for their football pitches . It should never be that hard to answer a phone I’ve given 2 stars as at least the pitches are decent but the difficulty in reaching them is an absolute headache
Fantastic experience: So far brilliant
Fantastic experience: Great swim!!
Negative experience: Absolutely rotten! . I can not believe that these swimming changing rooms are aloud to be open to the public! The smell of urine is overwhelming! Makes me shudder at the thought of them. The lockers are a good 60% missing keys, no toilet roll, showers are always out of order.lots (and I mean lots) of tiles on the floors and walls broken or completely off. There was a crib in the family room that had so much worn pastry in the floor ,a half eaten resemblance of a sausage roll. This is just before the children swimming lessons are about to start! What a stupid idea to renovate the reception instead of the vile, disgusting changing rooms that even if or might be possibly renovated themselves in the future just should most definitely not be open for health, hygiene and safety of the public !
Negative experience: We use this place for baby/preschool swimming classes. 2 out of 3 instructors we had were very young people who couldn't care less and would just throw toys in the pool and sit down to check their phones. My daughter finally turned 3 and I was glad we moved a level up. On the first day of preschool classes, the instructor was warm and my daughter had a great time. Second class today and the instructor barely looked at her and expected such a young child to just get on with it, without making any effort to gain her trust or make her feel safe. DD spent 20 min crying at the side of the pool not wanting to leave my hand. She is the youngest in the group and all the others have been there a while. Facilities are not great either, the changing rooms are very old and smelly of urine every time
Fantastic experience: I was very delighted of how clean the facility was and the staff and service is top quality .I really enjoy my experience.
Positive experience: What you would expect but the staff seem to be annoyed by your presence. Did swimming and used the library which is very small and not staffed.
Fantastic experience: Well equipped leisure center, properly maintained swimming pools and very courteous and helpful members of staff
Positive experience: Pool was very clean.
Positive experience: The swimming pool water is far too cold. I expect it’s their way of saving money. Extremely uncomfortable swim for my twelve year old niece. We only managed a half hour in the pool. Very disappointed after spending my £10 for a swim. Dreadful experience for us both, and speaking to other people they felt the same.
Fantastic experience: So glad I've started swimming again
Negative experience: I have been on hold for nearly two hours. I just wanted to ask a question. Also, they do not need to play the same message every fifteen seconds unless they’re actively trying to torture you. That’s nearly 480 times of hearing the horrible thing.
Positive experience: Very good place
Fantastic experience: Nice welcoming and helpful from the front desk. Great Management team
Fantastic experience: I have done training in the leisure centre for 4 months continuous,it's a nice place to be ....I wish it could have a bigger Swimming pool
Negative experience: Childrens (2 yo) swimming classes are dreadful at this facility. The ‘teachers’ literally just throw toys in the water and then chill outside the pool. If you hope that your child actually learns to swim, be aware that you ll have to do the traching yourself as they do nothing, not even leading fun activities
Fantastic experience: Great roller skating session. Teaches kids how to rollerskate. Inexpensive.
Positive experience: My grandson only used swimming which he said was OK and reasonably priced
Fantastic experience: We went swimming with our two granddaughters one has autism /complex needs. The staff were Brilliant, very helpful from the receptionist to the lifeguards. A special thank you to the supervisor Jackie who went above & beyond to help. We will definitely be back! Thank you
Positive experience: On hold for an excess of an hour. I understand you may have high call volumes at certain times of the day but if you anticipate this then I suggest putting more staff on the morning shifts as an Hour on hold is quite ridiculous.
Hi there, unfortunately due to a recent cyber incident we are unable to respond to any emails or phone calls until we are back to normal operations. For any assistance, our teams at site will be happy to help.
Positive experience: Badminton court is made up of cement. Condition of court needs improvement. Although is multipurpose but probably it should be made up of wood. Membership is provided with 40 quids around. Gym is also descent. Overall it's the only mostly available badminton court centre as other centers are occupied near to city center.
Positive experience: Looks a great day out for those who enjoy this sort of thing.
Fantastic experience: Great place great equipment in the gym and you can also swim here
Positive experience: I've lived in Leicester for a few years, and I have not been to this place before. The record fare was very good, and the selections were very impressive. The toilets were disappointing .
Negative experience: swimming pool facility is horrendous and does not have shower cubicle. Swimming pool and shower both in gym and the swimming pool smell like urine.
Negative experience: Very grim swimming baths. Not changed since I was a kid.
Positive experience: Record fair ok
Positive experience: Pool out of action
Positive experience: The gym is ok, although no staff around in the gym at all when I visited for the first time. I had some questions to ask which is a shame. I was there for an hour and didn't see anyone. Luckily I figured the equipment out but would be nice to have someone to help with a couple of questions.
Fantastic experience: SPOKE TO mary today she was really helpful and she called me back to give me the update regarding the gym membership for my kids she was so sweet and explained it really well and took her time with everything.
Fantastic experience: Mary was really great today, she helped me with my children's admission for gym membership and gave me a lot of information about it. She really helped me with everything I needed to know. Thank you Mary.
Fantastic experience: Great Leisure centre with fun classes and a lot of new facilities.
Negative experience: Dirty dressing rooms, pool water in kids pool freezing Needs money spending on it.
Positive experience: Gym, swim and classes. Lockers are a nightmare, hardly any keys and those that have keys either don't lock, swallow your coin or in the case of the swimming lockers, don't have a band to secure your whilst swimming. Staff are friendly and helpful but the place just feels tired and dated. Restricted opening times on a weekend and on a weeknight, I think they shut at 10pm. A monthly gym membership here feels expensive when you consider the quality of what you get.
Fantastic experience: I went for fit for surgery nutritional n exercise
Negative experience: Gym was not too busy today however the pool was. There are so many lockers either without keys or out of order but the ones you could use didn't have wrist straps which also included my daughters key from the ladies changing rooms. Money has been invested in new entrance area but no where else
Negative experience: The pool is broken. They need to do it all up. Been like it for years and it’s only gotten worse. Plus non of the lockers work or are missing a band so all you get is a little key easy to lose. Also stinks in the changing rooms. It need an upgrade. Yes the entrance looks great it’s new. But it’s the pool that needed doing. Been to another active Leicester it gave more time to swim and had better facilities . Unlike this one.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre. Swimming lessons are great for kids at ayelstone and the swim instructors are brilliant.
Positive experience: It was comic con 2023 held there in the hall that's where I went. It was good experience. Place was very busy and lots of people came plenty of stalls with pokemam card, comics and other collectables. There was not a large number of cosplay but still can see some. A few things they can improve would be To start need a bigger place this hall was way to small for this event you can barely walk without bumping into people so you couldn't really enjoy visiting the stalls. No enough parking either they need someone in carpark guiding people or at least a sign to say parking is full or they could mention on Facebook alternative parking etc. Not many food stalls there was only 2 option one slash and other with some food both had long queue so next year would help with few more food stalls. A few more activities for fids arcade was nice but that was it paying £27 for family of 4 was a bit expensive for the time we spent was barely 1 hour and half.
Positive experience: For management of both Aylestone Leicester Centre and Comic Con Management. Just for Comic Con 2023 event held at this centre (not for the usual sports activities). Way waaaay too over crowded. I very much doubt it can be legal to have this many people crammed into such as small space as well as for fire regulations I can easily see people and little kids being trampled to death if the alarm were to go off. Ruined me and my 10 year Old's day out. Had to leave early due to severe safety regulations being broken. Keep to much larger venues in future.
Negative experience: Pool was clean but changing rooms were disgusting. Only have open showers no private showers(no cubicles). Changing cubical had curtains instead of doors that had holes in and were see through.
Positive experience: Changing rooms very smelly and the lights in ladies not working
Positive experience: It's an okay place!
Fantastic experience: Great service! Wonderful and helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: It’s good. Is there a sauna
Positive experience: You get what you pay for but the changing rooms tend to whiff a bit.
Fantastic experience: Great for young kids to learn how to play football
Fantastic experience: We were asked by our Daughter in Law to take our Grandaughter swimming. The building was easy to find with clear parking. The welcome was warm and clear instructions given. We were able to watch her swimming class from the balconey comfortably seated. There appeared to be many events held in is busy establishment. A good facility for all to use.
Positive experience: Decent sized leisure centre, with swimming, gym, court hire, and classes available.
Fantastic experience: Came here for comic con Some cool stuff to see and lots of retro toys and games. They had a replica Batman car. Even kit outside too!! Great to rem some childhood memory’s Few characters dressed up so nice to see ppl make a good effort Would come here again.
Fantastic experience: I play Badminton here, which is a very good experience, have never had to wait for a court, always available on the booking system, it also has a great swimming pool.
Fantastic experience: There doing work on the building there, but its not to bad
Fantastic experience: I'm here everyday. The pool is super warm and the receptionists are always very friendly.
Positive experience: Have fond memories of this place when I was a child. Had swimming lessons here and loved going. This was way back in the nineties. I haven't been swimming for about 15 years, but I went back last week for the first time and while I did enjoy my time and had a lovely swim, it felt like I had just stepped into a time machine. The place really needs a revamp. Lockers need upgrading. I was lucky to find one with a key wristband! Price isn't too bad. Would definitely try and go swimming more often but mainly the centre needs a revamp and the car park, needs sorting out as well (very overgrown) Very good to see a library there also (remember it being a soft play area before). Staff I spoke to were friendly.
Negative experience: Attended for my evening adult only swim to find out that this is no longer the case and every evening is now general swim. Disgusting that none of us members have been notified about this.
Positive experience: Nice pool, friendly staff, easy parking, Problems with lockers and keys, no wrist bands for locker keys, lockers dont lock. Broken locks to changing cubicles , curtains hanging off curtain poles. Showers nice and warm.
Positive experience: I use this pool regularly for a swim. The web site detailing swim schedule is totally unreliable. Several times I have turned up for a lane swim and its not available. Why not add dates to when schedule advertised is applicable!
Positive experience: I only use the gym, plenty of equipment too use and there is a swimming pool, games hall.
Positive experience: football coaching had some wonderful coaches
Negative experience: Place is tired, dirty. Desperately needs a re vamp.
Fantastic experience: Always good for movement, especially their gym and badminton
Fantastic experience: It has changed since i last visited over 10 years ago still nice friendly staff with great manners
Fantastic experience: Excellent Nice staff, clean pool, One of the best libraries
Negative experience: Awful experience! The facilities were filthy, snacks all over the changing room floor, broken lockers, dirty floors. The staff were miserable and rude, refused to provide a pool noodle to my daughter, it was only her second time swimming. When we went to beaumont leys run by the same council and funded by the same council tax, they were extremely polite and helpful and provided a pool noodle, because ensuring my daughter had a positive and safe experience was more important to them, shame the same can not be said for the Aylestone staff. The first life guard told us my daughter can just stand in the pool, and wasn't even polite about their policy not to give pool noodles to children. The second life guard was equally as miserable and stormed off after telling us she spoke to the manager and it's policy. I was left holding my baby in one arm and dragging my older daughter up and down the pool attempting to help her swim. My arm and shoulder now hurt and my daughter struggled the entire time. The staff have utterly killed her enthusiasm to learn swimming. To top off a really negative experience, the pool was so cold my baby started shaking. Terrible management!
Positive experience: Claudia is the best swim teacher, shame they charge £10 for a failed direct debit when your bank charges you aswel that's 2 weeks swimming lessons paid for by the leisure centres charge!! Without the banks!!
Fantastic experience: Great place for Karate! My daughter love it and in just 5 lessons i can see a lot if improvements
Positive experience: Good facilities. Would prefer shower cubicles. Good for Lane swimming in the evenings.
Fantastic experience: There earlier today grandaughters swimming lesson
Positive experience: I bring my daughter here for swimming lessons. She is progressing well and the lessons are good value compared to many other places. Only thing is it could be a bit cleaner
Positive experience: I joined ALC in January & mainly do the Fitness classes, 3, 4 or 5 times a week. The whole building is in desparate need of updating (apart from the stone plaque that states when the original Swimming Baths opened, over 100 years ago. Depending on the time of day & who is on Reception; the Staff can be extremely rude, dismissive & incompetent. I've seen them do it AND it has been directed at me, when I initially joined. Not overly expensive, so I get what I pay for BUt the Staff need retraining & the website could do with being updated.
Fantastic experience: Gym is good, swimming pool dated but generally clean and well maintained, the library is lovely with helpful staff.
Positive experience: Good facilities, good choice of lane swims available ... Very friendly .
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend for swimming. My autistic son has improved in leaps and bounds! Very patient and understanding of his needs. His swim instructor's name is Hamda, she's a real gem. Claire Woolaston the swimming coordinator is ever so helpful.
Negative experience: Good range of facilities but requires a bit of rejuvenation. Badminton courts hadn't been cleaned in a long time so very dusty. Courts were small with little room to move around/play in.
Positive experience: Great place to exercise and swim new gym equipment..badminton courts and group classes.. Added bonus is it has a library
Positive experience: Went for a record fair. Pretty run down looking dated leisure centre with arrogant ****s in the car park
Fantastic experience: this place is amazing ! I went here for swimming lessons . The staff are kind . Would definitely recommend this place for any swimming lessons for children or adults .
Fantastic experience: Nice up to date gym equipment, warm temperature pool maintained and excellent value for loney with a monthly membership.
Positive experience: refurbished gym is brilliant
Fantastic experience: Belly. Dance classes here! Every Thursday! www.yallar.co.uk
Fantastic experience: Was great, staff nice and pleasant
Positive experience: Needs tree's trimming back, but easy to park, could do with coach parking
Positive experience: Very mixed really. Good overall but machines empty and can't buy food or drink on the premises
Fantastic experience: Very clean and the apparatus very good and modern!
Negative experience: Swimming facilities aren't good. Changing rooms need an overhaul. Lesson frequency and quality can be sporadic depending on the instructor. Really needs to be looked at from senior management within the council.
Positive experience: The leisure centre is clean and has plenty of onsite parking including disabled parking. The centre offers swimming for adults and children including swimming lessons. There is also a well-equipped gym with free weights, cardio machines and cable machines. There is also a bodyweight section. There are sports halls with badminton and tennis courts. All facilities have changing rooms for both genders. The staff are very friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person. There is more information on the website which can be a bit tricky to navigate but this does not reflect on the centre.
Negative experience: Never been so discusted is it are government making everyone pay by card or just leisure centres making there own rules since when's a child got a bank card to pay not letting them in if they only have cash it's a joke u moan about children getting fat well that's why I'd like to know if this is are government as they reckon you have to stay fit and healthy well Boris the kids can't not allowed I suggest anyone paying with cash goes Wigston swimming as this leisure centre isn't as sad to children
Fantastic experience: The gyms revamp is the best
Positive experience: The place needs an overhaul. I don't think the community room has changed in many years.
Positive experience: The staff and facilities are very good
Positive experience: To much urine in the swimming pool water, place desperately need upgrading. The amount of money they charges should be used in upgrading
Positive experience: Friendly. They make an effort. BUT. NO MORE YOGA ! WHY?! It was SO popular. As in, always fully booked
Fantastic experience: Really brilliant for lane swimming & gym for £10.00 monthly for over 60s!
Fantastic experience: Perfect gym. Excellent staff. Congratulations! Finally there are new lockers in the changing room at the swimming pool.
