Positive experience: Came for a post "house move" rest. We have been to many spas across the country, and sadly, this spa wasn't great. We stayed for a 1 night spa with dinner, breakfast and lunch, plus one treatment. Firstly, on arriving, the heating was broken, and since we were visiting December, this wasn't good. We had to wear our coats in the restaurant whilst having lunch, and there was a leak in the ceiling. We would have appreciated a heads up from the management regarding this.... The lunch was meant to be "Tapas with warm ciabatta bread." The tapas was good, but the bread was cold. Drinks were not included. We then headed to the spa. The receptionists were not helpful or friendly and made us feel quite unwelcome. The steam room was broken. The hydrotherapy pool was lovely. The massages were wonderful. But the spa was quite cramped and didn't feel luxurious. Again, the rooms were cold. And you had to go back upstairs to get changed or go to the treatment and drinks area... which was freezing in your just your swimwear and robes! Our bedroom was on the 1st floor overlooking a courtyard. The room was quite small. No mirror in the bedroom, which was a pain when trying to blow dry your hair... The room was cold when we arrived. There was an electric heater that wasn't switched on and took hours to warm the room. The bathroom was small, too. There was an ironing board, kettle with drinks, safe and hairdryer all stored in the wardrobe. The bed was comfortable, but very thin pillows whcih weren't. Evening meal was in the "Waterside" the £35 individual meal allocation just covered a steak..(no side orders) Also, there were quite a few things unavailable on the menu - chips being one of the many unavailable On the plus side, the staff that worked in the waterside, though, made up for the spa staff. The food was filling and tasty. The bar had an excellent choice of whisky and Gin. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was a buffet - full English and some cereals and pastries. Continental selection was limited, but if you are into your English breakfast, you will be fine. Overall, we wouldn't choose to come here again. The location is in a beautiful area, but the spa and hotel need some TLC, and the staff need some training on customer service. Unfortunately, we didn't feel it was worth the money we paid compared to other places in the same price range. And wasn't a luxury spa as advertised.

Negative experience: Booked a spa experience for the 25th Dec. with a few days in advance. It was booked on their website. Money was taken. None checked the bookings. The hotel spa was closed. No refund on the day. No accountability. Poor service. Someone should check the orders before leaving and contact customers if not possible to do it.

Fantastic experience: Really good leisure club and spa. Excellent staff, no point having a good club without good staff, mostly young yet still proffesional and better than other comparable 4* clubs I have experienced. Massage from Suzanna sent me into another dimension.

Positive experience: We booked a spa day for my partners birthday. We weren't advised of what wasn't working/available in advance which was disappointing. The heating in the restaurant, experience showers and sauna were all out of order. My partners massage with Sam was amazing. Mine wasn't great at all. But the positives, tapas was nice and working facilities were lovely. Would I pay £90 again and was it value for money? No.

Negative experience: I booked direct which came with a bottle of Fizz, this was a bottle of 4.2% Perry ( pear cider) which was warm and left us feeling very undersold. The breakfast was cold and the toast dry and cold. Half the spot lights in the room didn't work. The spa was great but this is an extra charge so be aware when booking

Fantastic experience: Had a good time as we were heading to Conwy and Bangor Pier, we took a break at the Resort. Had a good experienced in the hotel and their facilities. I love the scenery, landscape and Panoramic views. One of the best in Wales. Staffs very polite and friendly. They delivered a great service. My favourite spot was the Christmas spirit at the Restaurant decoration. I feel the festive and Xas vibes. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and well maintain. Have some romantic spots too. Fantastic experience: We had a lovely weekend with all of the family. The room was very clean, comfortable and bright but bathroom could do with updating. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. The food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and plentiful and the service was fantastic; they couldn't do enough for us, were friendly, professional and were very accommodating to our party of 9. We went for a swim and that was lovely, a good sized pool with fabulous lighting and a jacuzzi and sauna too. Again, lovely, helpful staff and very clean facilities. Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved it. The food was amazing. I had crispy pork belly. And the gravy was outstanding. The room twinbed was ok. The spa with our massage was 10 points. Sam was her name. She was amazing.

Positive experience: Booked with a group of friends as a one off and wasn't overall impressed. A lot of the facilities were closed or not working. There was no signs or notices online and the operator on the phone who we booked with didn't inform us either. When the Spa was booked we were told we would be receiving a buffet brunch but when we arrived to eat we were informed that the buffet had stopped over a year ago. And we were given a set menu with 4 options, the food was bog standard, nothing impressive for the price tag we paid. For the price we paid we could've gone someone where cheaper and higher quality.

Positive experience: I visited the spa last weekend and encountered several issues that have caused me to reconsider my patronage. The hygiene standards were not up to par, as there was an instance of fecal matter in the shower and the lockers were not properly cleaned. Additionally, there was no regular cleaning crew present, which contributed to the overall uncleanliness of the facility. The reception staff was unhelpful and did not take appropriate action to address the unsanitary conditions, including failing to close down the showers after the incident. While certain aspects of the spa were satisfactory, such as the hydro pool, pool, Jacuzzi, and restaurant, the lack of cleanliness and absence of regular cleaning staff have significantly diminished my desire to return.

Positive experience: Had a great weekend spa for my gf's birthday. It is a little tired and need upgrading in places but still really enjoyed our stay and food.
Negative experience: The rooms are lovley and the Spa is above average but the restaurant is the biggest problem. Always roudy noisy and carnt hear yourself speak. Full of functions and the bar is surrounded by big groups that are very loud. Wouldn't eat hear again but would recommend the spa.
Positive experience: Stayed for one night to enjoy a spa day for daughters birthday. Lunch was included in the spa package, sadly lunch was not good. Tapas style, able to choose three dishes, meat was raw and unfortunately I had cling film inside one of my dishes....they gave us complementary cokes as a way to say sorry. This made both my daughter and I feel sick so unable to continue with lunch. The spa itself was quite nice and the staff friendly, could do with a few more things to do in the spa area and parts of the building could do with a refresh. Stayed in the hotel for one night the room and bed was clean and comfortable, however again could do with a freshen up looked a little arsed and staff at reception not very friendly. Hotel restaurant Waterside was really lovely. Nice atmosphere and tasty food, Server Tom works really hard. We also had breakfast there and again it was great. Over all we had a lovely time, sad about lunch at the spa which did spoil it initially, but food at hotel made up for it. Would go back but needs a little bit of renovation first before I would return.

Fantastic experience: The spa is the best one that I've been to, with excellent facilities, and a huge variety of things in the spa to enjoy, and all comfortably laid out, with various activities included, such as various saunas, steam rooms, relaxation rooms, hydrotherapy pools, jacuzzi, normal pool, and all spaced out, not crammed in... And the restaurants are all tastefully done out, serving delicious food!

Negative experience: I booked a month before and had confirmation, booking reference etc but arrived at 8:00 p.m. to say there was no room for me and they moved me to moreton park hotel on a business industrial site. No breakfast on site, no bar, no leisure centre Clean but very basic room like a Travelodge. No compensation or communication from lion quays.
Positive experience: Not quite the luxury advertised. Basic room, bathroom a bit grubby. Toilet roll holder broken, bath sealant black in areas. Standard hotel buffet breakfast, some of it not overly warm. Kitchen seemed to be struggling to keep up as several items low or empty. On the plus side the toaster did actually toast..a rarity in any hotel! Communication also not great. The only phone number I could find must be a central office , only manned from 8 till 8. Doesn't work when you're out for work from 7.30 to 8.30. Tried messaging using chat bot and finally got a reply 2 days after our stay.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from the Resort , we travelled as part of a Coach Party with Jason Edwards Coaches .We had a wonderful time, everything was seamless and superb , from check in to check out .Our lovely room (210) had a balcony overlooking the Llangollen Canal, the food was varied and plentiful, the dining room in the Conservatory was beautifully appointed.The Waterside Bar was welcoming and cosy , and the pool and spa quite stunning.All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, a special mention to Chloe and Adam who were most attentive .We will definitely return and recommend. Negative experience: This place is in a lovely location. BUT .the prices are over the top they ask for boaters to visit but what I have seen you couldn't moor a stick . because they are silted up to a piont we're you couldn't more a dinghy.the beer prices are a rip off ..never again deserves better .Rubbish

Negative experience: We stayed few weeks ago for a romantic package everything was great until we got home and realised my partner had left 2 expensive items of clothing in the wardrobe so I rang straight away to explain and wanted them to be sent to us by postage due to travel we were told thay they would contact me back as was down to house keeping. No one contacted so rang back agen told me they would have check agen with house keeping took details agen I requested that I needed be contacted back as we no the items were there I gave full description this went in for 4 days of me having to contact them as no on would Me back. No one bothered to call us back not any update when I called I was told if they had it that it would be sent to my address.. nothing at all! This part of the service was not good at all an also the value of clothing a big loss as we no we left them as we rang straight away an the help was 0 rating!

Positive experience: Was staying at the Lion Quays to attend a hairdressing conference with colleagues, sharing a room with 2 other ladies we felt a bit exposed as the bathroom door has a full glass panel in with a small frosted part in the middle and there was no shower screen for modesty! otherwise a nice stay with comfortable beds and good breakfast, can see it would be a lovely venue for a wedding

Positive experience: Took my wife out for a half day treatment as we had been here a few times before a few years ago and it was fantastic vaule for money, unfortunately it was all the same only the maintenance was lacking, the showers went working in the spa area, it was all very tatty, then the lunch we had was very underwhelming and where we were placed to eat the walls were dirty, we had to pay for drinks as they weren't included in the price. We left feeling meh which was never the case in our past visits. Such a shame to see it going down hill like this as it wouldn't need alot to make it brilliant again.

Negative experience: I booked a package at this hotel in August. The room I received did not match the description of the higher priced room I booked and was filthy. I paid extra for the thermal spa which had multiple elements out of order leaving nothing worthwhile to add from the cheaper package. There were a few other issues, all of which were shared with reception. I was promised an email from a manager to discuss compensation and a month later I am still being ignored. Mistakes happen, but their refusal to rectify them is infuriating.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member of the gym and spa since November last year. The sauna is out of order, the Jacuzzi a showers and lockers have only just been fixed (not working since I arrived). I recently returned back from 3 months away due to mental health reasons. I called up 3 times and sent 2 emails (one direct to the club manager Marc) to request my payments be frozen whilst I was away. As I was ignored these multiple times and I was physically out of the country for three months. I removed money from the bank account for the final payment whilst I was away (I paid for two absent months already). I was just approached by the club manager Marc, who rudely demanded I pay for the missing month and I provide proof that I was mentally sick. I previously raised up concerns with Katie the other manager about being ignored and she kindly offered to give one month at the end of my contract for free. This month could have easily been transferred to my month away. Marc was rude and obnoxious, he showed no kindness or consideration about my situation and spoke in an aggressive manner. He also dismissed my mental health by saying “everyone’s got mental health conditions mate”. He refused to apologies for ignoring all the emails and calls. We are also neighbours to Lion Quays hotel, he said that doesn’t make the slightest difference. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED as we are neighbours to this place. Please train your staff in better ways of communication.

Negative experience: This is definitely not a 4 Star Spa ! The Spa is shabby with chipped tiles in the pool spa, and surrounded area's. The ladies changing rooms are dirty, The staff on the reception are not welcoming . The staff on the Hotel reception have bad social communication skills, The food is definitely not 4 Star, I definitely didn't get a relaxing Dining experience the staff service was horrible basically the restaurant staff looked very unhappy and stressed.

Positive experience: Nice stay. Decent spa facilities, lovely food in restaurant. Breakfast had plenty of choice and all good quality! Room was good but bathroom very small with no extractor. Quite warm in the room and could only open the doors to let air in (no window). Still a nice stay though.

Positive experience: Looked a lot better in the pictures. Room seemed dated and paintwork was full of scuffs, didn’t feel very luxury. Food was mediocre and service wasn’t the best. Redeeming quality is the pool/jacuzzi area being very nice.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I came here for a 3-night relaxing spa break and we had a wonderful time! We felt so relaxed by the end of it, and it was in a great location for Chirk and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct that we visited during our stay. The spa facilities were excellent, we spent hours in the spa on the two full days we had. We booked some treatments too, the mud rasol, the salt bath, and I had a massage too, which were all wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful too. In the evenings and mornings we had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, and thought the food was excellent and the service from the staff was very good. One day we ordered lunch to our room, where the service there was also fantastic and really contributed to a relaxing day. I think the only negative was that the room was *slightly* too small (only just enough space to open the bathroom door) - but the room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely balcony view of the canal. It was also nice having the TV in the room so I could watch the semi-final of the Euros on our first night ("come on England!!") We also had to ring up reception once we got home as we realised we'd left something behind. They had found the item returned to lost property and the gentleman on reception sorted out posting it to us very efficiently - this was greatly appreciated. Overall we had a wonderful stay and made lots of happy memories, we hope to come back some day!

Fantastic experience: Stayed here twice now and honestly it's one of the best hotel experiences I've had. The staff can't do enough for you and are absolute saints for putting up with the mostly older and frankly rude clientele. Service is always outstanding in the hotel, the restaurant, and the spa. Well situated to explore the surrounding area but ideally you should drive. The pool is the best pool I've ever seen. It's busy during the summer but when we went in January it was super quiet. We will absolutely be back!! Thank you as always to the Lion Quays staff for a wonderful experience.

Negative experience: Disappointing service. Not enough staff. The 3 people that were on duty worked really hard. There were alot of problems. 3 guests had to wait for 40 minutes for their afternoon tea when everyone else had got theirs. We asked several times. Had 3 one person teapots to cover 8 people. We were a party of 50 for afternoon tea. In the past have had really good service. The food was good and well presented. They needed more staff on duty.
Fantastic experience: Beautifully laid out complex, staff great and the food is amazing. Great that it's next to the canal, a great place to sit back and relax
Negative experience: My review only speaks to the food really as was only there for a Greek themed meal in one of the function rooms. Although the place is lovely the food was shocking. £22 a head for a few kabab sticks and some lettuce leafs ♂️ plus a further £5 a head for the room hire. A bowl of weird stuff named rice pudding really doesn’t count
Positive experience: No longer do the buffet and just some pretentious 3 dish menu which are all the same apart from 1 being veg, 1 fish and 1 meat. It’s not great for the price and doesn’t feel as chilled as it used to Also we did the massage seats and they just hurt and felt like I was being attacked by a hammer. Definitely not relaxed.
Fantastic experience: We stayed this weekend for my wife's 50th, The Hotel was lovely and the Spa was amazing we booked a package so the Termal Spa was included.The Highlight of our stay was the Food the menu was great and the staff were attentive. Would recommend friends to stay. But the only issue only picked up when home was the advertised Champagne & Muffins which was in the room on arrival It was only Perry at 5.5% vol so not £70 a bottle Please amend the website.
Negative experience: Heads up if you’re staying in the hotel as you get free entry to the spa. I rang to book the spa and I said that I was staying in the hotel and would like to use the spa, and was told the cheapest option was £85 each which I booked! But when we arrived at the hotel we were told we get free use of the spa with our stay and although that doesn’t include the thermal spa nobody was there to monitor the door into the thermal so could easily have gone in without paying. In that package it was 8:30-11:30, brunch at 11 (which was awful) so you only got 2 hours and half after all. The hotel was very average, the food in the evening at the waterside restaurant was lovely though!

Fantastic experience: Excellent food in the pub and free mooring at the docks. For registering our boat at the front desk they gave us a free drink. They do need to re-dredge the dock areas as they are filled with silt and it would be very difficult to get a long boat in. I also would only pull a boat in forward so your propeller stays clear to reverse you out of the silt.

Fantastic experience: Have done a spa overnighter here, and it was definitely worth it. Service, staff, and the spa are great. Reasonably priced. Best massage had in a while. The pool is amazing. Had a room right by the lock, so saw the boats going past. Lunch, evening meal, and breakfast were delicious. Great get away. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel and spa for everyone. We use the moorings regularly and also have exceptional service from the whole team. Courtney within the Hotel Reception is of notable excellence in her service skills and helpfulness (Always has a smile). I highly recommend this location for all Narrowboaters, and you must try the Breakfast buffet in the morning. We love staying here so much we've even booked a Balcony Canalside room for a family member to stay over.

Negative experience: Although we had no issue with the general aspects of the hotel (e.g the room, staff and location), we did have some issues. Firstly, the dinner service at the hotel restaurant was not the best considering the price point. The food was mostly bland and we felt ignored by most of the staff when trying to order food and drinks. Although they apologised for the lack of service and really were trying their best, especially considering they were catering to a large wedding as well, we still felt disappointed. Secondly, and most importantly, sleeping in the room was difficult. I am on autism spectrum and find it difficult to sleep in hotels most of the time, therefore I always make sure I have my earbuds, sleeping mask and comforting blanket with me to ensure I am able to have a good nights sleep. However, these sleeping accessories did not help with the noise of other guests (possibly from the wedding) slamming doors, talking loudly and shouting until early hours of the morning. At one point I had gotten woken up so many times by this that I went outside to calm down, and was unfortunately hit with a high smell of marijuana coming from the corridor as I left my room. As I am detailing this, it is 2:08am and we have being woken up for 5th time this evening. The most disappointing part of this ordeal was that the staff was not proactive in addressing these disturbances quickly and efficiently. Despite this hotel being very lovely and welcoming, we will unfortunately will not be staying here again as we felt that all hotel guests should be a priority and positive aspects of our stay, such as the spa and our room, have been outweighed by the negatives. We are very disappointed.
Positive experience: Stunning building in a great location. Only things that let it down is the cleanliness and the service. Our room has dead flies and spiders, plus worn-out carpets that just made it look very tired/cheap. We asked for the restaurant food to go as we didn’t have much of an appetite and he just had a box placed on our table. If you’re paying £20+ for a main, I wouldn’t have expected us to have to use our hands to fill a box in a busy restaurant with leftovers.

Negative experience: We wanted to stop here during our canal boating holiday. They even have a sign up along the canal to advertise free mooring for canal boaters. Unfortunately there very nice boat basin basically has no water in it. It was just too shallow to moor and so we gave up and moored further along and went to the Henlle Hall instead (which was great). If Lion's Quay really wants to attract boaters they need tk dredge their boat basin.

Fantastic experience: The Lions Quay was a beautiful, lush, quiet hideaway where we were able to get rejuvenated and pampered in style and peace. The service was impeccable, and all the staff made us feel so welcome and relaxed. They worked with us to make the Hen Do a massive success. I highly reccomend Lions Quay Resort and Spa if you need a break from reality!

Positive experience: We really wanted to like this place, we booked dinner for our holiday & parked our narrow boat on the very handy moorings outside. The starters were ok, but the tofu katsu mains tasted like the sauce came out of a jar & the tofu was undercooked. The ‘tenderstem’ broccoli was overcooked yellowing florets, all in all very sad. One waitress was friendly while we ordered, the other staff were very inattentive & couldn’t care less! Wouldn’t recommend the food at all. Very overpriced .

Fantastic experience: The place is just wonderful. The spa itself is just idyllic. We had a room overlooking the canal which enticed us to go for a good walk along it, the food was perfect, and the service also. Simply a must.

Fantastic experience: Had an indulgent spa day over the weekend and was so happy with the service and professionalism I received. The facilities have been upgraded since I last visited and it was the perfect day to relax and unwind. 10/10 spa
Positive experience: Brilliant location to be able to walk alongside the Chirk canal and see the viaduct. The staff were lovely, food was nice but the hotel is looking tired, the rooms need a repaint and refresh, as the same for the hotel, carpets look worn furniture is old, wifi is rubbish.
Negative experience: Stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Arranged for early check-in for 12 noon the day before and paid £25 for this. On arrival, we were told that the room was not ready and that their early check-in doesn't start till 1pm. We were not told this when we booked early check in. After some 30 minutes, we were told that the room was ready but they can't give the keys because they were having problems with their IT system. This was room 108. Went into the room and saw dust on the sockets, table, arm chairs and on the base of the swivel chair. There was mould in the shower and on the wall by the patio door. The bathroom door was damaged and rotting. The view from the patio door was blocked by overgrown hedge. Complained and we were moved to another room, 118. Slightly better room however, dust on the eaychairs, on the base of the swivel chair, patio doors damaged and rotting and mould on the wall by the patio door and the safe didn't work. They connected a gadget to it to see what was wrong but couldn't find anything wrong with it. Offered their office portable safe, were not allowed to change the code and it was portable so could be moved around/ taken. Declined their offer. It wasn't even repaired on the second day. The bedside cabinet had scratches on the side and the cupboard doors damaged. The electric heater made loud noise everytime it reached certain temperature. Very scary in the middle of the night and causing sleep disturbance. On the plus side, good location and hotel grounds. Nice view from the room of the canal and the countryside. Breakfast was good. Can't fault it. When checking out, was asked if we enjoyed our stay and we said no, they didn't even bother to ask why! I don't thing the hotel manager has even looked at the state of the rooms. Would he stay in dusty mouldy rooms with damaged and rotting furniture? Why put guests who are paying, in such rooms?

Fantastic experience: Just there for a work training session, the staff were polite and helpful and the room was bright and airy and pretty warm aswell, teas and coffees were provided and note pads and pencils aswell as water on the table. The venue was clean and easy enough to navigate with plenty of parking. I would recommend this venue as it was very nice.

Negative experience: Disappointing. Gave 2 stars and this was really only down to the chefs food (pork belly and lamb) and value of the night away what we paid. We booked a standard double from pictures on the website however reality wasnt great but it was cleanish, we paid £120 for the room and a £70 allowance for evening meal. It was the evening meal that let it down huge open plan dining and we were shoved in the corner by waiter who lacked hospitality possibly the worst table untill we asked to move tables as the restaurant was empty at this point only to be pushed at a table right at the back at this point I think it was personal. If only he knew why we needed this evening out! We were treated like no one should be in hospitality. There are 3 menus to what we saw 1 which was three course that is given to hotel guests you can choose to have a three course but with many mains supplemented and share plates and sides extra it ment the evening meal was already £70 for what we had already paid. We asked if there was another menu as we wasnt keen on having a 3 course but wanted sides ect and was told there wasnt another menu however we stated we had already paid a £70 food allowance and it wasnt stated we had to have 3 courses and believed it was just £70 off your bill. This idea is good if you are brought it as a gift but this is what we had already paid so didnt make sense to pay supplements and paid extras. There was two other menus which was lower priced and one higher priced the waitress said it was an old menu but I felt we were given the higher priced because of the £70 allowance we had already paid. All in all sadly the restaurant was not a pleasant experience. over charged and a 10% gratuity added. Access to the pool facilities is free although you do have to leave the hotel to walk outside to the spa facilities (all weathers) and you are given a towel sadly no robes as these were for spa guests only. Fine if you want to go for quick swim but not if you want to chill by the pool, or go back to your room, we did 1 hour and that was enough and was put off going again in the morning so left at check out as only 1 cubicle out of approx 5 showers had body wash/shampoo in ladies, 1 pair of broken hair straighteners so didnt want the stress of getting dry and walking back outside with wet hair. Spa access was £60 9 till 12 or £85 4 till 7 nothing inbetween unless you pay spa day £135 but with check out at 11am wasnt much point in going over again. Our last visit here you paid a upgrade to include it all with a lunch but this was no more considering the spa was empty at 530pm was a shame we couldn't use it. Sadly we have decided we wouldn't go back to lion quays in the future and we wouldn't reccomend it.
Fantastic experience: Had a fantastic weekend stay at the lion quays - phenomenal service at the spa - With the most amazing service from Laura, Charlie and Jude. The most amazing day with a signature package at the spa- with service and food second to none . if you want a totally first rate chilled pamper day this is the place to go . Hotel is easy to find ,rooms a decent size . Waterside bar is nice --BUT DO NO BUY THE DINNER PACKAGES offered on the website - this covers no drinks, soft or alcoholic and a number of the menu items also have a supplement. its cheaper to simply pay at the restaurant .
Positive experience: We had a great stay at a reasonable price, and we didn't mind the occasional flaw. The hotel staff were accommodating and upgraded our room to fit our child's blow-up bed for free. The room was comfortable and spacious, and we enjoyed the breakfast. The swimming pool was also excellent. We highly recommend this hotel as a fantastic base for exploring the many activities in the surrounding area, and we look forward to staying here again.
Fantastic experience: The team here really go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. Colin handled our booking and ensured everything ran smoothly and to our needs. I love this place so much! Charlotte in Nico's is a true asset to LQ with her friendly, welcoming manner, no wonder she has been there 17.5yrs. The food in the restaurant was lovely - I especially loved the amount of different fruits available at the breakfast buffet. Now comes my greatest love - the gym and spa!! The gym is so amazing we used it every day, such a great variety of machines and weights and you also get access to the numerous classes on offer which my husband attended some and thought they were outstanding. The pool is such a fabulous size, great for getting those lengths in. Nadine, Laura and Charlie looked after us so well in the spa, nothing was too much trouble. We already had pre-booked some treatments but then were so impressed we wanted to book more treatments and that was sorted so efficiently. The Elemis facial I had with Claire was so relaxing and my skin felt amazing after and the deep tissue massage with Beth was perfect. The Welnamis bed was so relaxing that I fell asleep on it. The Weyron Cocoon Massage Chairs are a shocking experience lol - literally like having a deep tissue massage from 5 people at the same time ha ha - loved it!! The Salt Flotation Therapy Tank is such a great experience especially if you suffer from aches and pains - it worked better for the nerve pain in my feet than morphine does!! It was so relaxing floating in the pitch dark inside the tank that I fell asleep floating. The hanging heated beds are so unusual but are so relaxing I fell asleep on them too lol!! The Finnish Sauna is just a perfect high heat and spacious. The thermal spa is so beautifully warm and if you get right under the powerful jet it feels like an amazing back massage!! The hibernation lounge is so relaxing I saw others sleeping in there - the only place I didn't sleep in the spa!! I love LQ and literally had the most amazing 3 days and 2 nights and came away more relaxed and with the least pain than I've felt in months. Thank you so so much to all the amazing team that helped make our stay so perfect and to Matt, the Resort Manager for taking the time to check how our stay had been❤️ We will definitely be returning very soon!!

Positive experience: Google maps failed me finding this hotel, even a mile away it said l had arrived, it's located near 2 petrol stations on the A5 not easy to do a right turn going towards Wales so go around the roundabout, the dodgy turn is coming out and turning right, against the busy traffic, the locals know a better secret way. I suspect one of the best hotels in the area for what l call normal people not the rich and famous, so you get what you pay for. Easy parking although the hotel car park is tucked away but is free and big. The mobile phone signal is very weak in the area and l had to rely on a very weak Wi-Fi to get my Google maps to get me to where l needed to be, if you go to your car to set up you are in a Dead Zone, so do it in the hotel first if you have any hope of getting anywhere. The staff are friendly but not very well informed, never knew about a Curry restaurant, that had closed the week before above the Spa, l wouldn't take anything they say as Gospel and do your own research before you arrive. The room was adequate although room 125 needed a bit of TLC as l was not sure in the bathroom if the paint job on the walls was meant to look like it had got wet and sort of washed with a dirty sponge look. The TV was nice and big but just a digital TV the bed was comfortable and the room was cleaned every day with out being asked. The breakfast was Buffet style including fried eggs, although l was there at 8am and could have been sitting there since 6.30 the orange juice had gone, the staff seem to be a bit casual about topping up as l asked about the coffee machine flashing, it's OK it's the chocolate has run out and nobody has chocolate for breakfast do they? Loads of choice for breakfast, l had muslie in the self service bowls provided, l wanted to try a different one in a sealed packet couldn't open it, so just had the standard option which was nice. When l returned to the Buffet the orange juice was topped up. I did dine in the evening once, reminders of Weather Spoons, definitely no chef involved in the creation, frozen and microwave, you can't fool me. Very standard pub grab. I suspect the WiFi must have been better in the restaurant as plenty of people with laptops and head phones on, l thought this was rude and perhaps they should be a buisness area. I advise to book as it really puts the staff out just turning up with 20 people, they can't cope unless they have notice. Around 11pm it became very noisy not the hotels fault and I was tempted to go out in the corridor and add to it! To tell the guests to be quite, trying to sleep. I understand the gym and spa is very well supported by the locals and they do not use the hotel unless it's the odd fling! I have to stay somewhere and this hotel did the job!

Fantastic experience: Always good to find a well kept cask ale on at the Waterside Bar . Excellent location to explore the Llangollen Canal from - the Chirk Aqueduct is only 1.6 miles away down the towpath. You can either access the towpath from the car park turning initially right until you can double back by crossing the first bridge you come to or by scrambling down the banking where the A5 crosses it.

Positive experience: Lovely overnight stay! Rooms were spacious and clean. We had a room overlooking the canal worth the extra. The Riverside restaurant was lovely. The service was fast, and food was lovely, no complaints ! We enjoyed the spa. It was lovely too, lovely big pool jucciuzi and steam and sauna room was all enjoyable. My only concern was that the lockers in the ladies' changing rooms were hit and miss whether they locked. Had to move my clothes 3 times before I found one that locked but other than that, I enjoyed the facilities !.

Negative experience: The rooms had this old feeling but not in a good way – more like a musty pub vibe. And don't get me started on the blatant differences between the online photos and reality. Plus, those walls were so thin, I could practically hear my neighbours breathing resulting in the worst sleep. The beds were 2 single mattress as one which would’ve been okay if they were two completely different hardness. Kudos to the receptionist for being helpful, but honestly, that was the only highlight in an otherwise disappointing stay. Neither I nor my family would recommend it. Now, onto the spa – it was decent, but the steam room and main pool were out of service, and finding stray hairs in the water was a major turn-off. As for the dining experience, the food was horrible (greasy and plain) at best – nothing to write home about. Reminiscent of Wetherspoons microwaveable food. The range was limited for those with allergies or specific dietary need. We've been trying to get a refund for ages, but the communication has been lackluster. They suggested we give it another shot, but after this experience, I'm not sure I'm willing to take the risk. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for a relaxing getaway.

Fantastic experience: We stayed 2 night for our 40th wedding anniversary our room was great with great views of the canal we used the spa it was really busy on the sat but the Sunday was very relaxing lovely pool area .We had breakfast and evening meal food was great only issue was quite a lot of things on the menu not available.Breakfast was lovely all staff very helpful and friendly

Negative experience: I went here with some friends for a hen weekend. I was Meant to have a package with a lunch and 50 min treatment. The 3 lunch options were all cold board options with nothing appealing on there the only other option was a cheese sandwich. For the treatment the lady was 15 mins late. Missed off the moisturiser after the scrub treatment. Spent most of the time trying to get my mascara off on the facial, when I told her that she didn’t need to do that she carried on then put a mask on and left me just lying there then wiped it off and told me the treatments over I’m so disappointed in this experience not what you expect going to a spa

Negative experience: We visited this hotel/spa for a birthday treat, to say we are disappointed is an understatement. First impressions were it appeared nice from the outside but dated inside, checking in at reception the staff member was nice & friendly so that was good, he said our room was ready (307) he mentioned it was one of the better ones. Up the stairs we went, upon getting into room 307 I was disgusted. It was filthy, stained dirty carpets, stained/damaged walls, chipped paint, the whole room smelt like damp. See pictures! You’d have a cleaner room at a premier inn! I’m not sure how this is an £153 per night room! I think the pictures speak for themselves. We went straight back downstairs to complain to reception, who were apologetic and quickly moved us a different room - this was one of the refurbished rooms on the bottom floor (127) to be honest it wasn’t that much better, a lot more modern but the walls were marked and it still looked grubby (see pictures). Tried to not let that put a massive downer on our weekend together, we accepted the different room. We went down to the waterside restaurant for our evening meal, not a great start told there’s a limited menu - no seafood at all, and ruined even further by a boxing event being held, meaning the restaurant was now doubled as a shared bar which was full of rowdy drunk men that were super loud so after 10/15 minutes we chose to leave the restaurant before we’d even had chance to order and had our food delivered to our room as we couldn’t even have a conversation. Main meal was ok, expensive though for 2 burgers and a pint it was close to £50, but it came quickly to our room and was nice and hot. Staff in restaurant were nice too. To be honest our whole experience has been absolutely awful. So much for a relaxing weekend away, this has been anything but! If you’re reading this, do yourself a favour, do not waste your money here, you will be sorely dissatisfied!! Will never return.

Negative experience: We Visited The Lion Quays on the 22nd of Febuary 2024 , We had a Discovery Voucher worth £250 to Spend and to be honest was very disapointed with the Experience , Room was dirty 2 Sibgle Beds pushed together , Spar , Many of the functions not working Steam Roon Ect , So our Spar experence was just a pool , Hotel from the outside looks impressive , But inside very dated and in poor condition . Sorry wouldnt be visiting again until improvements are made .

Negative experience: Really disappointed with today’s spa visit. My husband and I have been visiting the spa 6 7 times a year for the past few years and today we have made the decision that we will not be returning. We had treatments booked at 1pm we were told to wait in the reception area for the treatments, which we did, however it was 25 minutes before we were taken to the room, which is disappointing as we would have much rather of spent within the spa. A highlight of the lion quays spa was the delicious buffet lunch , we found out today that this has now been replaced with a Mediterranean style food board. With a bowl of potatoes, the food was very poor and unless you like a lot of olives and hummus I recommend eating before you arrive. Used to be a fabulous place but sadly now this is a low standard spa

Positive experience: Great stay on a Spa Break, had some issues regarding SPA facilities, but spoke to the management team who resolved them to our satisfaction. Rooms and beds are comfortable, with a nice addition of a coffee pod machine in the room. Food in the restaurant was excellent although the service was slow....staff shortage? Breakfast was really good with a great selection daily

Negative experience: The rooms were so old fashioned and smelt like a pub. The pictures on google look nothing like the actual hotel not to mention how thin the walls were, you could hear everything through them. Thank god that the receptionist was as helpful as what he was otherwise there would be no redeeming quality for this poor quality hotel. Me nor my sisters would recommend this to anyone. If you want a good night sleep in a comfortable bed and a quiet room, do NOT stay here.

Fantastic experience: Firstly, I only went to the spa, but this spa is a 5 star all day, unfortunately today the jacuzzi was being upgraded, the lovell was not working and the shower in the salt pod was broke. However, I arrived on a rainy day and was greeted by a very happy front counter who directed me to the spa upstairs (there is a lift if you need it) the spa staff were really nice and explained what my spa day would consist of and gave me robe, towel and flip flops. I had a coffee downstairs in the cafe but it was an extra you have to pay for. I had a 50-minute massage, which was really good, really nice person. Then the spa, they have heated beds to lay on, a spa pool and a swimming pool. The flotation pod was good, but I was told the door doesn't close, I never asked why. Really great experience.

Fantastic experience: Staying locally so decided to try the spa. The location is great and the facilities are fantastic, all looks very modern and up to date. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. I have a facial with Jess who was very professional and friendly and did an amazing job. Would 100% recommend a treatment here!

Fantastic experience: Really smart room with french doors overlooking the river. Great bar area and seating with restaurant very well laid out. Staff very helpful and all in all a very pleasant stay. Would highly recommend.

Negative experience: We went to lion quays to celebrate my friends birthday and our Christmas treat … got there they gave us our robes which were threadbare and my friend but her phone in her pocket and it fell out big hole ! The changing rooms stank of drain … We got changed and went in the thermal suite it was cold the lights were not on in the pool so my friend stubbed her toe quite bad. I made my way to reception to say that the thermal suite was cold and she said yes we will sort it 3 or 4 times I asked for the manager to come she eventually came and said yes we’ve been having problems with the thermal suite and offered us another day so we can come back. By this point we hadn’t even tried the other facilities … we made out way to the relaxation room it was cold then we went for dinner as soon as we walked in you could feel the cold hit you it’s not great when your walking round in dressing gowns and swimwear the dinner was just ok and we had to ask for the prosseco. The whole place was freezing and it really ruined our experience I’ve tried 6-7 times to get in contact when I do they say oh it’s been sent to the relevant person now unless she’s inundated with complaints I still haven’t heard a thing she promised to email back that day 9th January still not heard a thing … not a good experience and not good aftercare … I will be getting in contact again until we get a resolution we were not the only ones complaining that day !

Negative experience: The spa and pool are not in the hotel. They are 600yrds away. We drove (check Google satellite view). There’s nothing relaxing about that. The spa lunch and lobby and cafe are 1/10 (the Parma ham had gone grey and even the table water was a reused bottle with the sticky label peeled off). The spa itself is very good aside from the 4/10 changing facilities (run down golf course vibe). The hotel is below a premier inn standard (including the refurbed room which we were in- though it had a nice tv and Alexa). We wanted to cancel on arrival but weren’t allowed. We were comped a drink but really on an anniversary they should’ve let us cut our losses. It’s not as advertised. The restaurant food was as good as a pub with a pub vibe. All in all given that the spa lunch is so poor I wouldn’t recommend for a spa day either which is a shame as the spa is genuinely good and the main pool is too. Would ideally not come back but made the most of being here. The local town is run down too. And the a road it’s beside feels and sounds like a motorway but you can’t hear it indoors. Go somewhere else. Owners- consider investing all the hotel money into the spa. Upgrade the reception, changing facilities, restaurant and cafe. Make the thing that’s nearly good, excellent. You can’t fix the hotel.

Fantastic experience: Spent a night at the hotel around the Christmas period. Had dinner at the waterside restaurant where we greeted by John Cartwright who I believe is one of the managers there. His service towards us was outstanding! Very helpful and accommodating and went above and beyond to make our dinner night with friends extra special. Keep up the great work John and his team. Looking forward to the next time we fly over from the US to come dine here again. Also, the food and drink was fantastic! Hats off to the chef and their team.

Fantastic experience: The Lion Quays is made up of three main buildings running alongside the canal.First of all the carpark is huge with a drop-off point by the hotel.The first building is the SPA,the pool,the wonderful Ash cafe and the Indian restaurant. The second building is the dining room, the lounge bar and the wedding venue with views overlooking the canal.The third building is the HOTEL itself with a reception area but no actual lounge to chill out.It does have a lift. The receptionist was very good and went through everything with us.Our hotel room was nicely decorated with everything we needed including a little balcony which overlooked the newly fitted decking,the terrace and the canal.The bathroom was a bit tight but ok but it did have a dodgy soap dispenser.Plenty of wardrobe space with a large t.v. on the wall. That evening we took the short walk to the WATERSIDE Dining area,the walkway is undercover.We were a little early so we sat in the wonderful lounge and chilled out,had a drink,great choice at the bar.The restaurant is huge,very busy but really nice with plenty of staff.We were shown to our table,we ordered and the food took no time at all considering they were so busy.The service was excellent and so was the food.Later on we moved back to the lounge and the comfy seats .The SPA area has it's own reception and well staffed.The changing rooms are good with small cubicles if you so wish with free lockers all round.The POOL itself is amazing to see with proper swimming lanes if you need them.No children allowed in after 4 o clock.The pool is slightly on the cool side so you need to keep moving and also if you don't swim there's no hand rails around the pool to help you.We also found The pool to be a bit deep so be aware of that.The jacuzzi is a little small but cosy and the one steam room could do with a good clean out.The other steam room was great but you don't need long in there.Next morning we had the buffet BREAKFAST, there's a great choice of everything from cereals,juices,hot food and porridge if you'd like it.We really enjoyed the whole weekend.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful resorts, old buildings or ban converted into beautiful resorts in lovely surroundings, each room has a lovely views, our rooms had canal views and farm views. Relaxing spa and treatment rooms available on extra cost . I just enjoyed in swimming pool , sauna and steam . Hydronic pool was big enough for 6 people. Breakfast was okey. There wasn’t Vegetarian or vegan options for breakfast. Tea and coffee served from the machine which was quite disappointing . Service was good and prompt. Provided warm milk for cereal on demand. Dinner was good and plenty of vegetarian options . Overall average experience with food but still enjoyable.

Negative experience: I would not recommend this hotel unfortunately. We booked a suite with dinner bed and breakfast. On arrival the suite was unavailable and we were instead allocated room 124. We walked in and straight out. It was a disgrace. Curtains hanging off and shower floor tiles full of mould. Back at reception we were given room 309 which was better but was badged as being controlled by Alexa. No instructions for it though and nothing you could guess seemed to have any devices enabled. The soap dispensers had writing rubbed off so you didn’t know what they were. There was no shampoo, the shower tiles were again mouldy, the tissues box was empty. Then on to the sleep experience which was the worst I have ever had in a hotel. The bed was two singles joined to make a large double but the mattresses were different. One softer and one hard. I ended up on the harder mattress and was woken by the beading around the edge where the join was. Pillows were flat and lumpy so no support resulting me being awake from 4am until 6:50. On speaking to the reception in the morning it seems there is no manager available to offer me a refund on the room. Having said all that the food in the restaurant was nice.

Positive experience: Looking very tired and in need of a refurb. Patio doors wouldn't open, the bathroom wouldn't pass the 4 in a bed standard. Mosaic tiles in the base of the shower were loose and in need or regrouting. The staff were amazing and very helpful, nothing was too much. The food was OK but the steak was overpriced and very thin. Beautiful building, lovely location but a bit disappointed and probably won't go back.

Positive experience: The reception area, corridors and rooms really need updating. Our shower tiling in particular was very tired. The balcony furniture needs to be replaced but the view of the canal was lovely. The staff however male up for the shortcomings of the hotel. The breakfast was really lovely and the bar area and restaurant are nicely decorated. The bar staff were busy but unflappable and did an amazing job getting drinks and making cocktails for Christmas party guests.

Fantastic experience: We stayed overnight for a wedding at Lion Quays with our 2 year old son. He loved exploring the grounds (not much entertainment for him aside from rabbits & ducks, but he entertained himself!) The breakfast buffet was great, all attending staff were helpful and accommodating, our room was clean and the cot provided was good, and the event was a great success. Thank you!
