Fantastic experience: Bannatyne’s is a really great gym. What I particularly like is the fact that, unlike many of the local gyms, it has a pool in which you can do lane swimming. The gym has excellently maintained kit and plenty of it so, apart from the busiest times, you’ll always have access to something. I can’t talk about the classes as I never attended any but they always seem well attended so must be pretty good if you’re into classes. Finally the reception lounge is great if you want to relax before dashing off with a good selection of drinks and plenty of seating. Price wise you get what you pay for and it is fairly costly but if you go regularly enough they it’s worth every penny. My last comment is the only problem and that’s parking as many drivers don’t seem to be able to park their vehicles properly but not a massive issue really.

Positive experience: Previously a member of this Rotherham club a few years prior. Shame it's no longer open until 10pm on weekends (wasn't pointed out when joining). Can get busy at times as I imagine a lot of gyms can. Plenty of equipment and obviously access to the pool also.

Fantastic experience: Initially I was reluctant to join as I found it daunting. However I have been going a good few weeks now and as a wheelchair user, my experience is a very positive one. There's a large family changing area with large accessible showers also I lift for the gym area and a disabled toilet on that level too. Staff are warm and welcoming. It's always clean and the other gym users are all friendly. The pool has a few small steps with railings which if you have wobbly legs like me just go down on your bottom. I would say it's definitely worth the membership fee.

Negative experience: Don’t bother wasting your money. £50 a month for what is essentially a normal leisure centre with a swimming pool and steam room. Equipment is tired and outdated. Busy unless you go really late in the evening. Hasn’t been updated in at least 10 years since I last left because it was so average. Just an average gym. Not worth the premium price tag it demands. Go to PureGym or similar instead

Positive experience: Staff are fair enough, facilities are good for my personal usage, the classes I have been to have been fun, high tempo and engaging. The only downside I've found to Bannatynes is the lack of variety of classes in the evening, there are a number of classes I would love that are only on during the day in the week when I work and there's a real repetition of classes that are on around 6pm when I tend to go (excessive combat and attack).

Negative experience: This place is disappointing! It’s long past its best and in desperate need of investment and refurbishing. The weight area is very limited, pure gym/jd/everlast are much better equipped for half the price. Far too many cardio machines and empty studios taking up space. The changing rooms while clean are well worn. The pool is ok but nothing special, virgin active have much better facilities for similar price. This needs a full refit to modernise.

Negative experience: This used to be a good gym, sadly they don’t use the floor space well and ratio of cardio machines to weights is ridiculous. The climbing frame in the middle of the room is just pointless & pretty much unusable, needs replaced with another wire system & benches. To top it off, some bright spark began offering cheap memberships to school kids so now you just spend most of your time waiting for some teenager to finish on tick-tock as he clearly has no interest in training before you can use a machine. The senior manager / membership lady’s attitude also stinks, she wants a lesson in customer service.

Negative experience: Wish I could give 0. Be careful with the 3 month contract and deals they have. I signed up on a 3 month contract with an online offer that claimed the first month was half price as it was half way done. I paid half of August as per the deal, paid September, gave notice of my cancellation and the beginning of October and was even told by staff, I could use the gym until 2nd of November as that’s when I will have paid up until, and the cancellation would be in effect from. I then paid October, noticed on my banking app they had scheduled a payment to come out for November. When I questioned this they said the contract was 3 full months and that the half payment didn’t count? The rude lady on the phone did nothing but tell me I should’ve read the T’s and C’s more clearly. THEN they said until I’d payed for November, they would not process my cancellation so if I didn’t pay it quickly I’d be paying for December too. Absolute daylight robbery. I was only working in the area temporarily but I will never use Bannatynes again, the gym and other facilities are bang average too. Essentially, I signed up on a 3 month contract, they robbed a 4th payment out of me and when I challenged them, they threatened to take a 5th. Don’t sign up.

Negative experience: Would give zero if I could. Worst experience with a gym I’ve ever had. Choose Virgin if you can. The toilets are always blocked. The changing room floor is never cleaned- so they don’t want you to use talc. No one checks water temperature so it isn’t as they tell you it will be. This club is in no way child friendly. They go as far as staff telling children to get out of the pool, over riding the parents decision, depending on the day. Some days rules apply, others they obviously don’t care. Don’t believe what they tell you at sign up. They don’t clean Yoga mats, they’re rude to people who want to get water out of the tanks, very unhelpful, unwelcoming. Never anyone around to help - they prefer to sit around talking than actually do their job. Absolute rubbish. Definitely better off at Virgin! I could go on about how diabolical this place is.
Positive experience: The reception staff were certainly friendly, and the wristband entrance, locker, and equipment logging system is fantastic. On my first visit it took a bit of exploring to find everything, but I managed using common sense. The spa facilities, I.e pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room, is very reasonable. There are 3 lanes, slow, fast, and general which is double the size of the other lanes. Overall the facilities do look a little warn in places at present, and there are a few things like the swimming costume dryer missing off the wall. However, everything looked clean. You don’t get towels as you enter here. The gym facilities looked good, cardio equipment with technology built in for example. Some degree of tiredness noted again, things like dust build up in the built in air blowers on the cardio equipment, but overall looks good. They are very strict at having all members out at closing tome, 20:00 in my case. I forgot to keep an eye on time and the first I knew it was at 19:59 when the lights were being switched off. Maybe an announcement at 19:45 would be good so people can make their way to get changed? More than anything, so staff get away on time. They have their own cafe, which appeared to offer everything you’d need. Hot drinks, smoothies, even alcohol. My overall impression is that this is a good gym, but somewhat of a standard one similar to a leisure centre, not as premium as I thought £50 a month might have got but better than the budget gyms like The Gym Group. I’ll give Barnsley a go next for comparison, although it’s on the same payment tier, it’s classed as a ‘spa’. Thanks again to the lovely staff at reception who did a great job at welcoming everyone, and even going out of their way to say goodbye.
Negative experience: Awful customer service, phoned up on Saturday and specifically asked if we can buy 2 day passes. The lady confirmed yes just turn up anytime. Drive 30min on Sunday to be told they don’t do day passes without a member. Lost 2 potentially members only wanted to try before joining.
Fantastic experience: Great classes and gym
Positive experience: Good facilities. Unfortunately the pool temperature is very cold and several members are leaving because its not warm enough. Kids at the swimming class have had a few tears because of the water and left the class.
Negative experience: Make sure you read your contract, set reminders for end dates, and don’t expect any goodwill in the customer service offered here. I obtained a 3 month membership due to a temporary change in my place of work. This has come to an end and I have joined a different gym, but Bannatyne’s continued to take payment. Why someone would sign a 3 month contract with a view to continue it after, I will never know. I asked the team, in the day they took payment, whether they could assist I securing a refund given I am no longer in the area and have paid for a different gym. I was told no, meaning I have donated £60 to this huge company without anything possible in return. Clearly the company’s current model is to gain as much money as possible no matter how much it irritates members, even if it ensures no further custom from that member.
Fantastic experience: We had a spar day here. Treatmentments were a true delight! Definitely be back.

Positive experience: In general, the whole place is a little 'tired', gym equipment is adequate, pool, sauna and steam ok but I wouldn't class it as luxurious and certainly wouldn't pay the monthly fee. Been on a few day passes to try it at £15 a time but they've now increased it to £25 for a day pass so I definitely won't be going again. Quite under-whelming tbh

Disappointing off peak membership no longer includes weekends. Been a member since it opened but as I only really go swimming will have to consider Hellaby Hall just down the road which is considerably cheaper
Negative experience: On the behalf of my father: The receptionist on the phone wasn't really helpful or understanding, she was pretty rude and unsupportive of my situation. I believe her name was Mandy (not entirely sure). She also hung up on me as I was asking her questions. This is just one of many bad encounters I've had with the staff but just brushed it off until now. While the facilities are the best I've experienced in Rotherham, my personal experience with the staff doesn't match the standards of the gym itself.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic all round. Gym has great equipment, pool is fab and the jacuzzi/steam room/sauna are all well kept and clean as are the changing rooms. The cafe is brilliant too. They've made amazing changes for covid and it feels very safe whilst still being able to make the most of your membership. Will be very glad when it goes back to pre-covid though! Book classes early as they get filled quick.

Negative experience: Having been a member for 9 years at this health club I am disappointed that when i come to cancel my membership they have asked for another months payment ! I did try to get in touch during the closure due to Covid 19 but no they still want the payment shows the respect payed to members of 9 years plus !!!! . The tone and way it has been dealt with is very poor , you might have thought out of decency and 9 years as a member could have been left believe it or not the amount is £13.84 as already payed to freeze account £30 . Having looked around there are Gyms in the area offering better service and genuinely care about the members would advise all to avoid this heath club . DOES NOT DESERVE THE ONE STAR I HAVE TO GIVE !!!!!

Positive experience: Like many other say just to busy....nothing wrong with the place or facilities just to many students who anyone who goes gym regularly know take ages between sets and talk..only real time it's not that busy is around 11am-1pm. I get more people more profits but u can't complete a full workout or do targeted workouts as can't get on the equipment and by the time it's free your no longer anobolic

Positive experience: I really missed my trips to Bannatynes over lockdown, so am really happy they're open again. I just wanted to commend them for their covid measures. Mandatory mask wearing (except whilst you exercise), temperature taken on entry, plenty of cleaning stations and distancing measures. After I've seen a lot of shops/restaurants take half measures, it's really pleasing to see Bannatynes take it seriously. Only reason this isn't 5 stars is that they've needed an upgrade to the weights area for quite some time. They obviously know how many members they have and in my mind should have a weights room sufficient to service the numbers wanting to use it. Too often I have to wait around for someone to finish, which is a bit annoying for £45 a month. other than that, it's great!

Fantastic experience: Been a member for a few years now. Has some great, challenging classes and the gym us bang up to date. Particularly like the open access to virtual classes so can fit in around varied work pattern and family.
Fantastic experience: At this gym you pay for what you get, and I mean top quality! People see it as expensive but if you take full advantage of the included classes and use the gym and the spa and pool then it really is great value for money. The facility is clean and high spec with all the latest equipment, staff are friendly, i dont use the café but it is always popular and full of customers who go for social meets. If only I could persuade my friends and family to go here too then I would have someone to work out with, oh well. Great gym and a great place to just chill, relax and also blow of some steam. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Although today I brought my family and had the worst experience with stafff, cleanliness and welcoming. This despite the fact that I came with a 17 month old and his mother who is 6.5 months pregnant. Sort it out.
Negative experience: I've been a member at many different gyms and this is the most expensive and worst I've been to. No choice as it's only decent one in the area. It's small and always busy, never get on half the stuff even first thing in a morning. It's way too warm! Most of the other gym users are the rude stuck up self loving think they are something type.
Positive experience: Good gym only reason I believe it should only get 3 star is because of how expensive the gym is you expect exceptional service and this isn't happening also the sauna seems to be regularly too cold or too hot and IF they sorted this I would most definitely recommend

Fantastic experience: Have your child taught to swim at bannatynes small groups our 4 yr old after 16 lessons is able to swim full now into crawl on 2nd lesson of this swam length all but a couple yards. All thanks to tuition from Jo
Negative experience: I think they need to re-evaluate the opening hours as a lot of the younger male gym staff think its appropriate to kick gym users out 25minute earlier than closing just so they can bunk off early (This happened to me and 6 other gym users last on 21/3/2018). Either dont sell memberships saying you stay open till 10:30pm or get staff in that actually care about customers. Having said that the gym would be 5 star as its facilities are second to none but I cant look past my earlier comments.

Negative experience: Expensive membership. No sockets near mirrors for straighteners. Some reception staff can be in cliques and, some days, can be totally ignorant unless you're in the in-crowd. Showers need updating, car park is too small, pool can be cold, gym staff are good but never available because they're always doing personal training sessions.
