The Sitwell Arms Hotel: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Went Christmas eve for the kids party. It was fantastic. D J was amazing and so was the pie and peas. Definitely go again next year.
Fantastic experience: A other fine visit to this beautiful establishment. Another full house for the Retros Band. Thanks for having us again. If you're looking a great night in a great venue with great people get yourselves to the Sitwell Arms.
Fantastic experience: Christmas Festive Lunch: I booked a table for 14 of my family. Overall we were all very happy with the food and service. 3 of us ordered the vegetarian menu, which was one of the nicest I've had in recent years, there was a good selection of vegetables and the mushroom wellington was very nice. The staff were attentive and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely be booking for next year.
Fantastic experience: Warm welcoming and friendly staff. Four of us had the Christmas meal, and it was very tasty ,well cooked, and worth every penny. We wasn't rushed or felt the need to order and move on. Thank you for a really good evening of drinks and food
Positive experience: I thought all the staff worked hard but my family wanted to give a special mention for James and Lewis who's efforts and customer service in the 'Wild Boar' area of the hotel extend well beyond the bar. And the kitchen staff that was turning out consistently good food during our stay.
Negative experience: Service was slow. Breakfast with Santa was expensive for what it was. Much better breakfast just around the corner and half the price too!
Negative experience: Oh my goodness, I have never spoken with anyone as rude as Joanne. I really can't believe that such a lovely place employs such an ill mannered person. Especially for Front of House. Disappointing and disgusting behaviour. I can tell you that I definitely will not be recommending the Sitwell Arms to anyone. Ever.
Positive experience: Had our Xmas outing here. Service great and food lovely. Well done
Fantastic experience: I cannot tell you how good this place is, and it's all about the people... A-MAY- ZING. We arrived mid lunch service (first day of festive lunch parties). It was very busy but we were acknowledged straight away, got checked in and lunched ourselves. Food was exceptional throughout our stay, brekkie, lunch and dinner. If I have reason to visit the area again, I know where I'll be stopping. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: I’m really lost for words for how amazing this place was After being seriously let down by a wedding we had planned originally at van dykes (horrible people to deal with),we had to bring our wedding forward and luckily the Sitwell arms were able to accomadate us From the very beginning after speaking to John, they were nothing but kind, thoughtful and understanding The wedding was amazing on the day and held together by Sharon who was so kind and did nothing but reassure us both all day constantly Everyone commented how lovely the food was (which it was)….my only regrets are the day being over and not being able to give 6 stars to the Sitwell arms They’ve left us (including our guests) with beautiful memories of such a perfect day…and we couldn’t thank them enough
Fantastic experience: I was there for a wedding do, the food was very nice, the drinks were reasonably priced too! The staff were very friendly, didn’t have a bad word to say about the place.
Negative experience: Got married here and the experience was awful. Food service was incredibly slow, guests spoken to poorly by staff, tried to close the bar early, staff complaining to us about various things all day. It was cheap but it was not cheerful. We raised an official complaint only to get told that we in fact did not experience what we described, essentially being gaslit into being told we had a positive experience. Tone deaf management, won't be returning even for an anniversary meal, real shame.
Positive experience: Lovely place for a wedding. Lovely staff. Easy parking. #aaabphotography
Negative experience: Didn’t even get our names right… We got married in June. It was a beautiful day, the ceremony was complete, pictures were done and we were about to have the big moment of being introduced for the first time as Mr and Mrs Severn. It’s a big moment. And out of nowhere, we get Mr and Mrs Stevens (and no, it’s not even remotely close). Instead of our guests remembering the good things about the day, we now get jokes about the wrong name. It’s THE thing people remember. That wasn’t the only mistake. They also served the wrong drinks, delayed the ceremony by 10 minutes as they didn't tell the photographer/my dad where to go, and tried to shut the bar 30 minutes early, which my husband had to persuade the staff to reopen. We raised these issues onto the Sitwell Arms team and tried to settle this internally. They took 6 weeks to reply and sent back a lacking response and excuse that most of the mistakes were because they were confirmed by email and not sent over to the right person. Honestly - this excuse and lack of communication is inexcusable. It’s a lovely venue, but if you're after attention to detail for your wedding, you should try somewhere else.
Negative experience: **Please read because my experience was horrendous** My wedding was called off 6 weeks before due to my Canadian partners visa issues and we split up . We had paid a LOT more than just the deposit (full amount was due 4 weeks before). I explained the situation and cancelled the whole wedding. I was told ANY money paid was none refundable, not just the deposit. So if I’d just put the deposit down I wouldn’t have lost the rest of the money. I had hair and make up trial booked with them and after explaining my situation I assumed that this would be cancelled too. But to add salt to the wound, they actually phoned me on the trail hair and make up day to ask where I was. Obviously I was extremely upset and asked Karen (the person assigned to our wedding) and she actually said it was her fault and she was sorry and that she “could lose her job for this mistake”. I was sympathetic to her but also asked for a manager to speak to. I hope their phone calls are recorded, as should be, as I taking this matter further to court. After asking to speak to a manger, I was told they were unavailable, and it was Karen (who was in my complaint anyway so should not have been the one to respond) who responded by email to say they would issue me a free meal as compensation. I found the whole experience of cancelling my wedding very traumatic, I never got a phone call from a manager (which I requested) Overall, I would avoid this place! If you are planning a wedding, please go elsewhere. They are simply immoral, unsympathetic and the workers clearly try to get away with inflicting upset and pain and suffering. I am taking them to court to get my money back (minus deposit as I understand that) as well as for pain and suffering for not cancelling everything and me having calls for aspects that should have been cancelled. Also for not having any opportunity to speak to a manager when I requested this and simply having Karen, the main person who my complaint was about, been the only person to message me. My guess is she either didn’t tell management about it, or the management just told her to respond. Either way is disgraceful
Fantastic experience: Can't thank Karen and Sharon enough for everything they did for our wedding. The service was brilliant along with the food and great hospitality. The day / evening went 100% better than what I had imagined. The rooms was amazing and very comfy beds. Breakfast was delicious all the running about Sharon did on the day to ensure the day went as smooth as possible was amazing all the staff need praising , I would highly recommend the Sitwell venue and all the staff to anybody booking a wedding. If you want your perfect day this is the place to get it. Thank you again everyone ❤️
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs if you have a family member with a hidden disability!!! My family member was belittled by the manager Yes the manager for taking a while to understand the menu. Then (I am not a child) was given a kids meal and was told to "put up with it" as I looked like a child. Then I was served cold roast potatoes that were smothered in a bad way with un-melted butter. Then was served an undercooked chicken and was again to "Get over it". Furthermore this was a wedding in witch they were yelling in the kitchen throughout the speeches. In regards to the rooms they were nice enough but smelt old, musky and of beer that had clearly previously been spilt. All the surfaces were sticky. We were very sad as we were led to believe we could walk around the lovely grounds shown on the images but we were not allowed. I will never be returning and advise you never to go there unless as a last resort. But even then prepare for the worst.
Negative experience: We have just returned home from a two night stay. We were in room 8. I'm not sure if it's certain rooms for people that book through Buy A Gift or not, but the room we were allocated was poor. It was raining on the day we arrived and was cold. When I walked into the room, there was no heating on and so I checked at reception and was told that they would let me know. Apparently, it was thought to come on with a timer. I never got an answer, but when we went for dinner in the restaurant, we noticed that there was no heating on then, and there was no heating at all in the hotel during the time we stayed. The room. The lighting was poor, especially near the dressing table. Something of ours rolled off behind the draws, and when pulled out to retrieve the item, there were wrappers and rubbish from previous guests. I couldn't ring through to reception as the telephone didn't work. The most important issue was the double bed. It was extremely uncomfortable. We both had a bad back in the morning. I lifted the mattress to reveal that two of the base units of the bed were bowed, and the mattress wasn't much better. As we were there for two nights only, I took the duvet off the single bed, which was comfortable, and laid it on the mattress for extra cushioning. The double bed needs to be replaced. It's what you are mainly paying for as a guest, and so we didn't sleep well.. The bathroom tap was loose, and the shaver light was out. On a positive note, the room was a good size and well laid out. The shower was nice and hot. The complimentary showers gel and soap were a nice touch. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the food in the restaurant. It was nice and quiet when we stayed, but it's late September.
Positive experience: Great venue for a big party or wedding (as the reason I was there)
Positive experience: Hotel was nice.Room was clean but let down by really light curtains,it was light in the room all night despite the blinds and curtains. Also it was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever "not" slept in,such a disappointment, would definitely change the mattress!. Bedding was nice. Only bonus was a nice breakfast .
Positive experience: We were very sad as we were led to believe we could walk around the lovely grounds shown on the images, however on arrival it transpired this area was solely for the wedding parties who had booked out the space. The hotel was fully booked and busy and very noisy until the early hours of the morning. I realise the visit would have been different with a midweek booking! The staff in the pub however were fantastic- they could not do enough for us and the other guests!
Positive experience: My room was tiny right at the top of the stairs. Stained carpet and a minute bathroom where the shower flooded the floor. I asked for extra towels due to the flooding but they never appeared. But the worse thing was the little brown message left in my toilet I found when lifting the lid for the first time, I won't post that photo. The twin room other family members had was huge and very nice. The Wedding Planner and the staff were superb throughout the day....1st class for the wedding we attended. Breakfast was average.
Fantastic experience: We saw they were offering 50% off mains throughout August and it drew us in. I’m so glad we went. Staff care about your experience and the food was amazing. And I mean AMAZING. They have all the pub classics: pie, mixed grill, T-bone steaks, burgers… so much to choose from and all HOMEMADE! They have a big beer garden on the back and inside it’s a really nice relaxed pub vibe. Even full price great value. They were charging £14 for pie & chips with super generous portions. We will absolutely be back! So glad we discovered this place!
Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of assisting with photographing a wedding at the Sitwell Arms, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The couple chose the cosy, intimate room at the front, which was perfect for their small wedding. Even with the smaller setting, we were able to capture some truly stunning photos. Just around the corner from the venue, we found some fantastic spots that provided the perfect backdrop for those wow-factor shots. The couple was absolutely amazing to work with, and the photos turned out epic! I look forward to working at the Sitwell Arms again for future events. Best regards, Rachael
Fantastic experience: Love this place for food with friends. Staff lovely.
Fantastic experience: My daughter had her wedding here on 27th July, One of the best days of my life, Food , staff, how the place was set out, the feel good factor was perfect. The rooms are out standing.. Very good breakfast the next day.. THANK YOU Sit Well Arms for making it very special for every one .....
Positive experience: This hotel is well located. The food is Great Unfortunately room 12 double bed has an issue . The left landside has broken springs and therefore has a dip that I found uncomfortable. So we used bothe the spare single bed and the right handside of the bed. The room was large and fine. Plenty of space for 2 adults.
Fantastic experience: We recently stayed for our wedding anniversary and booked the dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The four poster room (17) was lovely, very clean, nice comfortable bed with pretty drapes and bedding and plenty of tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was also spotless and the room had ample hanging space for clothes. The meal in the restaurant was lovely and there was plenty of it and a wide selection. We could barely manage the delicious Eton mess sundae. Staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The breakfast was very good and filling. plenty of buffet items as well as the full breakfast and tea or coffee. A lovely nostalgic stay!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel, staff were very friendly & helpful, they couldn’t do enough for us at my daughter’s wedding. They made the day so easy & relaxed couldn’t fault them on anything thank you so much for making her day perfect, would highly recommend this wedding venue & staff
Fantastic experience: Well it’s taken me a while to write this review because I honestly don’t think there’s the words to say how amazing Sitwell is. We had our wedding on the 28th July 2024 and it was absolutely perfect, from the minute we met with Karen there was no stress Karen took over and did the most incredible job she truly went above and beyond and we will be forever grateful. On the day Sharon our MC was impeccable she kept the day flowing and is just the most genuine person I’ve ever met. Every member of staff at the Sitwell are amazing and made our day and stay the best it could have ever been. We can’t wait to return and we highly recommend Sitwell for weddings, birthday or just an over night stay it truly is amazing and where dreams come true. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Mr & Mrs Wootton.
Fantastic experience: Nice venue, good location, large outdoor area. Just a really decent place to go...
Fantastic experience: Had our intimate wedding in the ledger room. It was the most amazing day. Karen our wonderful wedding coordinator was incredible not only on the day but throughout the whole planning process. I personally stayed over night in a wonderful room. Before spending the night in the bridal sweet which was breath taking. Not only was our wedding meal amazing we also had a meal at Sitwell arms which we highly recommend. The chips are to die for! If you get a chance to try afternoon tea again it is incredible. Both days the breakfast was extremely tasty. It’s a lovely environment and all of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Fantastic experience: We got married a couple of days ago in the Sitwell Suite and it was an amazing day. Booking, organising and preparing the day was made very simple of as stress free as it could be. The wedding planner, coordinator and rest of the staff were absolutely amazing. They fulfilled every requested we had and made sure the day went to plan with out any issues (if there was any, we didn't notice). Throughout the day and night, all of the staff were very friendly and did everything they could for us. We were evening allowed to bring our pooch in for the ceremony and photos! Towards the end of the night, there was only a handful of us left still drinking and enjoying the music and at no point, did the staff make us feel we needed to hurry up because they wanted to pack up, but continued to provide the service they would as if there was a 100 people still in the room. The following morning, we didn't make it for breakfast (We overlaid!) but a member of staff gave us a call on the hotel room phone to see if we were coming down. We thought that was a really nice gesture. For anyone considering Sitwell for their wedding, I'd highly recommend it. Yes, there are some negative reviews from people on here. Mistakes can be made at times as everyone is human, but in our experience with them, they do everything they can to try and minimise these. Thank you to all the team for giving us the greatest day ever!
Fantastic experience: Nice hotel, lovely food and nice staff.
Negative experience: Please see attached screenshots for full review. Absolutely appalling service.
Fantastic experience: We had the red letter day experience which included a night away with 3 course meal and full English breakfast. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff and service was amazing and friendly especially the server on the night for our meal in the wild boar restaurant. The food was amazing. Definitely worth the money. Lots of pub classics to choose from. Would definitely recommend
Fantastic experience: Came for a small family meal. The food was amazing!!! The team were friendly and atmosphere was perfect. We’ll definitely come back!
Fantastic experience: We stopped at Sitwell Arms because we were going to visit Renishaw Hall. We booked two nights with dinner and were really happy with the quality and value. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the bar and dining staff. Fantastic hotel.
Positive experience: We recently got married here and it was a beautiful day. Rooms were great and staff were all lovely. There were a few mistakes in our wedding, the incorrect song was played for my bridal entrance which was upsetting after months of planning, the table plan said Mrs & Mrs instead of Mr & Mrs and had a guest missing. We also upgraded for champagne breakfast in bed but there was no champagne. It might seem like minor things, but it’s something that you would expect a venue to get right.
Negative experience: The hotel is a lovely building and focuses mainly on weddings. If you are not part of the wedding party it's actually not a good place to stay. It is extremely busy and noisy when an event is happening and many people checked out due to the noise. The single bedroom was in need of updating. It has cracks in the wall /ceiling and wires to the TV dangling etc. It was basic. The alcohol is expensive too. They have a gym and beauty room. Lizzy who works there is wonderful and does make up lashes etc....theres a petrol station open 24hrs over the road that sells pretty much everything if you've forgotten something , it's handy. Following the complaint made to the manager as was forced to check out at 1:30am with a few other families due to the noise , it's been 4 days with four phone calls and an email with zero response from the manager. The receptionist told me we should have expected noise as they're a wedding party venue. Absolutely disgusting.
Positive experience: Haven't been recently just parked nearby to go on a walk. Went several years ago everything was ok.
Fantastic experience: Came for 2 night stay using a gifted voucher. Room clean and spacious staff friendly and food very good Only downside was room next door being renovated and noise started at 8 .30 am did not spoil our stay though and these things have to be carried out at some time
Positive experience: Booked a one night stay here including dinner and breakfast to have a nice break away from home and we both had an enjoyable stay. The service for dinner was outstanding and our meals very delicious. The rooms are showing signs of age and definitely could do with updating and the bed was probably the most uncomfortable part of our stay which fortunately didn't spoil our visit. Breakfast was very nice with a normal selection of continental choices as a serve yourself buffet along with freshly cooked options like full English ordered at your table. Overall a good experience only mildly let down by the room/bed feeling tired and worn.
Fantastic experience: Stayed overnight last night after attending our friends wedding. What an amazing day and everything ran so smoothly. The sit down meal and the evening buffet were exceptional and the staff worked their socks off all day. Special shout out to Laura who was so lovely and friendly. Room was a little tired looking but very clean and comfortable. Slept well even though it was a late night and we lost an hour during the night due to the clocks going forward. Would have been nice if breakfast could have been extended for an hour just to save having to get up so early!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely warm and friendly place wonderful food and drink, amazing service, will call again.
Fantastic experience: Come here for a friend's birthday, very nice place, very friendly staff, we ended up renting the house in the grounds instead of struggling to get home. What can I say....the house was unreal, made a good night an even better night.
Positive experience: we visited at 12:50pm on thursday, 25% off only on certain dishes. the fish batter was not really crispy. the mixed grill was good.
Positive experience: Great staff and an outstanding breakfast, restaurant food was great aswell.. Only downside was slightly outdated rooms and very uncomfortable bed..
Negative experience: Went here for a mothers day meal, ordered the drinks for 4 people and only 3 turned up, the music was far too loud and had to ask 3 times for it to be turned down we pre booked meals and it still took over 30min for the starter to come out, this wasn't the best, we was hoping the mains would be better we were very wrong, when we was asked about how the food was and the man asked us to be honest so we were it was more like a microwave meal a female waitress told us we were wrong and that they don't even have microwave (which I find very had to believe) she then proceeded to tell us we were wrong as they hadn't had any other complaints and that it was the same chef that cooked everything, we were then charged wrong they added extra drinks to our bill when I asked to be checked it took 4 people to do so, not sure if it was intimidating tactics bit it didn't work this same lady did apologise but then proceeded to tell us we were still wrong we will not be returning it was also rather cold in the building as there was no heating on!!!
Negative experience: We received a gift voucher for afternoon tea, which was a value of £45. We were served with 6 under filled squares of white bread, a scone each, some other sweets and a cup of tea. Nowhere near the value we were hoping for, there are many other places provide better so please shop around.
Fantastic experience: Visited yesterday and had a great time! Food was amazing in the lounge bar
Fantastic experience: Excellent food, we took advantage of the 50% off mains deal and visited 3 times ina short period. Food and service was excellent.
Fantastic experience: We took my mum and her friend to the Sitwell Arms for her birthday meal. The food was absolutely fabulous. Everything was delicious. The service from the staff was impeccable. We had a lovely evening and would definitely visit again. Thank you to Joanne and the team for looking after us all.
Fantastic experience: We got married here on the 13th January, and the whole day was perfect Karen was amazing making sure everything happened as it should without a hitch we had an absolute blast and I wouldn't change a thing we used the recommended suppliers and they were all so helpful and really listened to what we wanted, the Renishaw suite and the honeymoon suite were also absolutely brilliant really gorgeous rooms! I really don't think we could have asked for anymore! Thank you so much to everyone for making our ay so special and memorable!
Fantastic experience: We had a great experience at the Sitwell. From the first booking e mail to check out all the team were very friendly and efficient and the room was spacious and clean. We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant and breakfast which was delicious.
Fantastic experience: We are staying at the Sitwell Arms for the weekend as a birthday gift. Plenty car parking, comfortable, very clean room. Three course dinner at The Wild Boar was delicious, very good selection for vegetarians. Breakfast, again very good selection of buffet and hot served items. All staff are friendly and very helpful and courteous. Will definitely return for another stay.
Positive experience: Went to a family wedding didn't go outside weather wasn't good but found the place warm charming staff were very friendly.. breakfast was nice . Wasn't a lot for coeliac s but still nice.
Negative experience: Went for a meal last night, we were asked by the female member of staff what drinks we would like even before we had sat down. I ordered a meal I had back in September that I had really enjoyed Cajun cod burger. When it arrived it was nothing like what I had before. The cod was barely there and was over seasoned with the spices so didn't taste the cod. There was 2 big onion rings on the top of the burger to hide the size of the cod. Previously it was a decent size piece of cod. The lady when I complained insinuated that I was mistaken and tried to make out that I couldn't of had it before. I was told by her that it was the same chef so couldn't have been different. She made me feel so uncomfortable. When we were paying she pointed out when I said the meal wouldn't of been worth full price as we had 50% offer . She said it was the same price as having a McDonald's. Also my husband had the Whitby whopper which in our opinion was no way near a whopper size more a standard size.
Fantastic experience: Hi, we've been today for my mums birthday. I've forgot the name of the barman but he was fantastic and really helpful. A real asset to the pub and a total pleasure to be served by. Food was great too so yeah, we'll be definatly back here... Great place
Fantastic experience: Lounge currently not open but the bar area has improved tremendously. Good food and service at a fair price.
Fantastic experience: We had a meal just a couple of days ago and it was prepared, presented and excellent to eat. The young lady, we had as a server, was attentive, very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. In fact we have made reservations in a few days time to have another meal ...looking forward to it!!
Fantastic experience: Visit to Wild Boar Lounge Bar - 4 adults, 2 children, lunchtime 29th Dec. We were served by James who provided excellent service even though he was extremely busy. He was very helpful explaining drinks and with children's menu. He kept us informed as to what was happening re our orders. The food was excellent for all of us and the whole lunchtime was an excellent experience. Would definitely recommend. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place fantastic staff, just flawless, food at wedding meal was lovely aswell. Perfect event
Negative experience: Went for the 80s night, the night was missold, as there was a change of menu and service without prior warning or chance to cancel for a refund. Was not informed about change of food, which was over salted, which was a struggle to eat. Emailed a complaint with no response as it was very disappointing for the price.
Positive experience: Stellar service from those staffing an aging building. From the moment of arrival, we were treated exceptionally; perfect knowledge of the parties, easy transitions from rooms to events, wonderful and helpful staff at the bar and function rooms, and a genuinely perfect breakfast the following morning. What lets the Sitwell Arms down, however, is the grave difficulty of keeping up with the modernisation of such a beautiful building. Along with its guests, the lesser-used rooms host mold, moths, dipping floors, flaking walls, and for some neighbouring rooms, an evacuation due to water leaking in from above - which would likely explain the low water pressure in the shower. I cannot recommend the function rooms here highly enough, however; the management have clearly - and rightly - focused their ministrations on making the ceremonial rooms as beautiful as possible, for both events and for posterity. Family and wedding suites on the ground floor have clearly seen more TLC, so partners tying the knot here can rest assured you'll be looked after. My advice? Marry here - sleep your guests elsewhere.
Positive experience: Family wedding there ..the meal for such a posh place was not up to scratch ..the bar prices were extortionate, (I'd pre load at home if u want to get drunk .or take out a loan) some of staff were snooty too...
Fantastic experience: Did not stay at the hotel went for Christmas Dinner. Really organised service Really good atmosphere would recommend it
Positive experience: Pleasant staff, good food and surroundings. Had an enjoyable time.
Negative experience: The hotel felt very empty, chilly, and not welcoming. Our room was fine, but to get to the restaurant we had to go through unlit, cold, rooms. The restaurant menu promised online and in our room was very different to that offered. Breakfast was a sorry affair, and although there was just one other couple, it took ages to be served (20 minutes to get a boiled egg?). For £125 a night B&B it wasn't what we expected. Sorry, but I can't recommend this place, and won't be returning.
Fantastic experience: Treated like royalty. The setting is beautiful, the rooms luxurious and spotless, the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our special day.
Fantastic experience: We had afternoon tea at The Sitwell Arms. The choice of sandwiches was lovely, they had no problem accommodating our dietary requests. The cakes and scones were very good. The staff were friendly and attentive. Their lunch menu looked nice so we’ll definitely go again and have a meal!
Positive experience: The pie, chips and peas we had at our Xmas works do (80's night) wasn't very nice, overpriced and made 5 of us ill. It was different to the menu we were given.
Fantastic experience: Treated my sister to a cream tea. Was so easy to book. Simple to find easy to park too. We were a little early but soon shown to our seats. The whole experience well worth the drive. Lovely friendly attentive staff, no waiting around. Great feel, to the place. Didn’t stay over however on what we saw would highly recommend, nice clean neat place, fabulous loo’s too. Thank you for a lovely experience.
Fantastic experience: Stayed here for one night. Had evening meal added to the stay. Staff were very polite and it seemed like they did everything they could to provide an enjoyable stay. The room was clean and tidy. Towels, soap, shampoo and shower gel were provided. Bathroom was clean. Tea and coffee were also provided Beds were on the firm side Room was warm and roomy. Evening meal was awesome. I had mixed grill, my partner had pan-fried chicken, both were very tasty and large portions. Sticky toffee pudding and custard for me, chefs cheesecake for my partner. Breakfast was equally awesome, croissants, pan and chocolate, cereals, toast, orange juice, full English breakfast,, tea and coffee. To be honest, the only minor downside was, no usb charger points in the wall sockets. Other than that, 5 star rating from me.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed my stay here, can't remember how much I paid but I don't think it was more than £80. room was clean with plenty of facilities. Breakfast was top end of what I would pay but it was made to order and fresh not one of these horrible buffets so was worth what I paid. my friend got married at the hotel and they did a great job. Both meals provided in the package were tasty and good portions. All the staff very friendly.
Positive experience: Don't take room 27, I could hear people peeing in adjacent rooms. Awful experience being woken in the night by this unsavoury noise
Positive experience: 6 of us came for a meal & it was half price. I honestly wouldn't have been happy paying full price for my meal, quite disappointed after my friends had had lunch there a few weeks previous said it was lovely.
Fantastic experience: Had my sons wedding there & from minute 1 the staff were attentive, polite & knowledgeable. The service was fantastic & the food was outstanding
Fantastic experience: stayed for the Beaujolais evening, everything was excellent and the food delicious ! special menu with lovely execution and fab service, will stay again !
Negative experience: Just been here for dinner with my Sister and Brother . Service was good and food was fine . When paying , the bill stated that we had been charged for four starters ... I asked why ? . My sister had the Camembert £3.25 I was told by the owner that my sister had requested bread and olives and was charged £5.75 for this ( which was a starter on the menu in it`s own right , my Sister DID NOT ask for bread and olives... I was offered the price of the Camembert .. I refused , I wanted the price of the olives and bread starter that we had been charged for and NOT got . She gave me a £5 note ( which was the note that my Sister gave them as a tip ) .. I still feel wronged . I had a booking as well on Wednesday which I cancelled . To the server with dark hair ... you know your job and you agreed there was a wrong done here ... To the owner learn from this lady and dont fob your guests off when a mistake ( your mistake )has been made . My Sister was in tears ! What a shame ... good bye Sitwell Arms !
Negative experience: I gave a 3 star mainly for the following reasons. Bar staff lady in cocktail bar was clearly not happy to serve people drinks last night. Looked so unhappy and stressed. Staff at breakfast looked extremely stressed and clearly again not enough staff to serve as took 20 mins just to get served. Breakfast was very poor for £15 ! Premier inn can do double size for less money. In a nutshell you need to employ more staff at busy times. Fully booked and not enough staff on at key times. Room was ok. Clean. Lady in reception was lovely.
Positive experience: Attended a wedding there. Staff behind bar a bit later at times.Food was excellent.Rooms ok
Fantastic experience: Partner and I had an evening meal here. Was greeted by friendly staff, not rushed at the bar when having a pre dinner drink. Food was outstanding. Was not rushed or felt bothered by anyone.
Negative experience: *BE CAREFUL* If you cancel you don't get a penny back. My wedding was due August 2020 and of cause covid hit, we then had to postpone... then postpone again due to the covid measures as who wants to get married wearing a mask? Was charges an extra £1000 for that which is fair enough not a problem but then we decided to cancel the wedding and wait until life was as back to normal as could be. All in all we lost around £5,000 because they couldn't refund us anything!!! Then infact stated they'd CHARGE US if the date & time wasn't taken by someone else The lady on the phone spoke to me disgustingly, absolutely no thought of why I'd be upset. We saved and worked really hard to book this place and lost it all. I'd love to know where the big amount of money went too really! Wish I'd never chosen this place it's put us completely off now I should of known really as I was replied to immediately at the beginning, once majority was paid I heard next to nothing from them what so ever. Covid wasn't my fault nor the venues but I also know big venues like this have insurance and I should of been given some kind of refund.
Positive experience: Recently had our wedding here and it was absolutely brilliant. My wife was looked after really well all through the day and the service and meal went so smoothly. Karen did a great job in helping us plan right up to the big day.
Fantastic experience: We have eaten at the Sitwell Arms prior to our visit on Saturday 30th September and have always found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. On this occasion it was busier than normal but the staff in the bar/lounge restaurant still gave excellent service and the food was equally as good. The staff are all young but do a very good job and should be rewarded for this. The guys who served our table went above and beyond, they were pleasant and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely be eating at the Sitwell in the near future.
Positive experience: Lovely setting for a wedding but the rooms need a lot of work. Shower so hot that you could not stand under it for long and when you tried to adjust it , it went stone cold, plus the water hardly came out. Breakfast was bulk standard.
Fantastic experience: Lunch in the Lounge Bar. Excellent service and food. Tables laid out very nice, everying spotless. Easy parking and access. We were on a tight time schedule and waiter was very accomodating taking our order promptly. Good choice of menu for a lounge bar.
Fantastic experience: It was a lovely venue. To attend my daughters wedding. It was a amazing day. Beautiful pond. Lovely arch garden to take photo.
Positive experience: Attended a wedding reception, lovely venue , staff were pleasant, the bride and groom looked amazing, it was a good night .
Fantastic experience: The booking process was quick and easy, and the staff were very understanding when we suddenly needed to amend the date. We had purchased a 3-course dinner, bed and breakfast with Buyagift. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed by a very polite receptionist who accommodated our needs. Our meal was simply superb. The steak was cooked to perfection, the starters were delicious and the salted caramel tart was on another level -kudos to the chef! Again, the staff were very pleasant and accommodating-a special mention should go to Tom and Jake who were the perfect hosts. The beds were really comfortable and the room very clean. Breakfast was served fresh and with a smile. Beautiful stay overall
Positive experience: Large roadside establishment with, I presume, a rich history. Dog friendly. Clean and spacious internally. No hand pulled beers and I thought the price was a bit steep: over £17 for 2 pints (bright beer and lager) and 2 large Cokes). Ample parking and beer garden.
Positive experience: 3 of us stayed for one night in July before a family funeral nearby. Lovely welcome and clean modern, airy rooms. One at far end of ground floor had view of bush and patchy WiFi but was otherwise fine. The other on first floor nearer reception had side view and good WiFi. Bed was a little firm for me but I travel with a mattress topper because of joint issues, so that helped. The others slept well. Website photos show grounds and a lake but that must be reserved for event guests as we could not access those areas, although there’s a lovely fish pond near reception. Best memories are of our dinner and breakfast. The food was excellent (and we received a discount as one of us had a birthday). Service was friendly and efficient, catering effortlessly with food intolerances for one of our party. The staff we met during our stay were Jane, James, Jake and Jo. There must also be a great chef and a great background team, cleaners etc. We send you all our thanks for a pleasant stay.
Positive experience: Did not stay over here, so I can not comment about rooms, but staff appears pleasant enough - invited to an evening wedding bash. Pet hates - people dancing on the dance floor sloshing drink all over and smokers/vapours congregating at the entrance forming a distasteful cloud both displayed here.
Negative experience: your hotel was fantastic, your area was fantastic, I can’t understand why hotel owners giving you a management, you don’t know anything about hotels, Me and my wife checked in 3pm and directly get out and backed 11:36, you can check what happened to us, your hotels was closed, no entry, No reception, We were asked to please let us in, no one there, we were your guests, it was terrible staying in my life, beautiful hotel, 2grade hotel, but management is terrible, please don’t ask to your customers to give you any reviews, I had many issues when I was checking in and out, This hotel only focused on wedding and birthday parties, you can’t stay at this hotel with confidence. Zere Zero Zero …. Mines. You can try and see what’s about hotel and what about management….
Negative experience: Came for a wedding the room decorations was beautiful, the bedrooms where clean and tidy, hotel is outdated and makes it look dirty. Was a shame about the staff, was very rude and faces like slapped arses, when buying Drink a woman took far too long to take my payment I almost walked off I understand may have been a technical problem but no apologies or update just walking around like headless chickens. Had breakfast and was seated to a rude bar wench you get at a local pub was greeted with "Are you ready to order yet?" With a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp, why was she so angry all I wanted was a breakfast I paid for with my young children, which was over fried food and a boiled egg that wasn't cooked like how do you get a boiled egg wrong ? when leaving I got asked how was my stay I replied with ok, because it was. At least I had somewhere to stay during this wedding.
Positive experience: I enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable.Breakfast was good.better if we could have more.I enjoyed it. I would go again.
Positive experience: Lovely venue for a wedding but the rooms were very average, we had a view of a bush! Bathroom was in need of some TLC, apart from a couple of staff the customer service left a lot to be desired. Food was very good, couldn't fault it. Absolutely no Internet or phone signal despite hotel wifi. The grounds are lovely, it's a shame some things let it down.
Positive experience: Very nice 2 course lunch time meal at a very reasonable price. The young man who served us couldn't have been more helpful. It's been awhile since we have been, but it will not be in future. Definitely one to return to very soon.
Positive experience: Didn't stay here but went to a wedding reception here afternoon tea and evening bbq, all very nice food/service was good nice surroundings
