Positive experience: One of the best PureGyms since the refurbishment. Huge amount of equipment including machines, racks and benches. Still has the usual PureGym issues of groups of school kids being allowed inside. One thing I would suggest is to isolate a section in the astroturf for sleds, the current section is just a free for all. It may even be as simple as having tramlines, but it avoids people using that area for stretching and warm-ups (given there is a huge room for that). Also consider getting a pendulum squat, I believe there is space and the cost is worth the number of people who may decide to switch memberships to use it.

Negative experience: Absolutely freezing cold in the winter, very humid in the summer. No air-conditioning or heating. Not the best place to enjoy your workout especially in the winter. Looking at previous reviews, I’m sure they will reply with standard copy-paste response .
Hi Lutfi, thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We have recently made slight changes to this area, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. By law, we have a requirement to provide a certain amount of fresh air based on occupancy levels, and our ventilation system increases and decreases at different times throughout the day and night, making sure we meet these requirements and provide good air movement around the gyms. These levels are based on size of the gym, and occupancy levels, and are regularly monitored. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Positive experience: Nice atmosphere, and convenient location, but hardly any machines. You spend half the evening waiting to get onto something. It’s a small gym anyway, bur they’ve decided to turn half of into studios, for classes. Classes that hardly anyone attends. If they got rid of one of the studios, and filled it with machines, it would be much better PS. Not convinced it has a heating system/air con. Whatever the temperature is outdoors, it’s the same in the gym

Negative experience: Pretty nice gym, but at 9am the changing rooms are absolutely filthy.

Negative experience: No reception and noone shows up when you ring the buzzer as per Pure Gym's guidance. Impossible to get some basic information. Waste of time.

Negative experience: I almost never write reviews but this time I feel like I have to. I bought a day pass just to have a quick workout, shower there and travel back home. First off, the rack part of the gym was a complete disaster. The dumbbells were absolutely disorganised and misplaced, the 28 kg dumbbells were placed on the 10kg dumbbells, and the same thing with several other weights which was so confusing. I understand this is gym etiquete from the people working out there, but the staff that was around could have placed all the dumbbells correctly. Secondly and most importantly, the changing rooms were DISGUSTING!!! I have never been in such a dirty gym changing room in my entire life!! It looked like the showers haven’t been cleaned in days and the changing room itself was also SUPER DIRTY (floor and benches). This to me is unacceptable and so anticlimactic, gyms forget you are also paying to be able to use the showers and toilets, not just the equipment. only positive note to me is that the equipment was new and it was quite nice. In conclusion, if you plan working out on this gym from time to time or it is conveniently located for a quick workout then it’s not too bad, but if you have to shower there after working out to go somewhere, or you just need to change before working out, I would definitely avoid this gym at all costs!

Negative experience: man its like a slaughterhouse in there, except people be lifting weights and pushing cables up and down. Its so warm, I felt doomsday was arriving tomorrow and dang man theres no etiquette no chivarly among the gym goers just putting weights and equipment anywhere where their eyes can see. Man yall staff needa be like "yo not on my watch! put that 10kg dumbbell where its supposed to be". but damn i guess they aint getting paid enough. just a fast lifestyle in the city i guess. Back home people put their dumbbells in the right place and dang that feel good for the heart and soul.

However we know that at busier times, weights are not always returned and our team complete regular re-sets of the gym. Negative experience: I think there is no Internet connection from the last 1 month and , the management don't care about it , when asked the manager they are also clueless. Please fix the Internet connection
Negative experience: (current member) Gym is quite dirty, more often than not there's no soap in the bathroom. There is zero airflow in the gym, it's like a sauna in here. Also the gym is often overcrowded anytime after 3pm. The only good thing about this gym is the location and the bring your buddy thing

We have recently made slight changes to the air conditioning, looking at improving energy efficiency. This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. Air conditioning is set according to gym size and it changes throughout the day to match occupancy levels to ensure the best air flow. With regards to the temperature in the gym, we use air conditioning units which heat the air when it drops below 17.5C, and cools the air when it goes higher than 21.5C, keeping the temperature within the gym at an acceptable level. This is regularly checked to ensure the units are operating as they should be across all of our gyms. If there are any issues we have processes in place to ensure that they are resolved as soon as possible. Our gyms are very popular and so can become busy especially at peak times, but this does fluctuate throughout the day and from day to day. To make the most of the space where possible, though, we are always looking to expand and improve our facilities. Positive experience: Nice selection of machines. Avoid evenings: too many people, too loud music and everybody shouting. Changing rooms are very small, sometimes difficult to find an empty locker

Negative experience: I thought the gym was overcrowded and too small and smelly before but then I visited the pure gym in Liverpool Central and it just confirmed it to me. Liverpool pure gym has so much more space and the equiptment is more updated. Bristol pure gym is too small for the amount of people they have subscribed and the experience is just below what you should expect. It's OK I suppose but really I am looking for another gym.

Positive experience: Decent gym and it's pretty affordable. It's got all the basic machines you'd need, plus a solid area for free weights and something they call a "functional" area, which is alright. There's kinda limited space for how many people use it, but it's got the necessary equipment, just not everything you might want. Biggest problems are the AC, which breaks down a lot and never really gets fixed properly, and some machines that stay out of order for too long. But apart from those issues, the gym is good for what it offers at a low cost. I'd say it's worth checking out.

Negative experience: The staff are never anywhere to be found. In other gyms the staff are actively around the equipment and visable so people can ask questions... I had to book an induction to remember how to use the machines as no-one was around when I first joined and I thought the "start" buttons would start the machines but that is not the case. Even in the induction, the staff wanted to walk around and not use any equipment which is pointless... I had an induction at a gym 14 years ago and part of the induction was trying machines and making sure I understood how they worked so I was expecting this level of service when I had booked an induction with PureGym. There is NEVER any blue roll to wipe down equipment. I actually brought my own sweat towel in to wipe down machines before/after as it's not getting done as the gym stopped providing blue roll. My BIGGEST gripe, I had to go away for a month unexpectedly and came back and the gym had cut my lock off the locker and stolen my £90 pair of trainers. Again, THERE IS NO ONE AROUND IN THE GYM to ask what happend to my shoes. So now I have to save for more before I can exercise again.

Negative experience: weights are scattered everywhere. if the staff could take an hour just to put the weights in the right spots it would be so so so much better. To add, if you want to try and put stuff in the correct place it will be taken up by incorrect equipment which makes the problem worse, so do not tell me it is my responsibility as i try and there will be incorrect dumbbells i’m every spot, therefore i am forced to place it elsewhere, making the problem worse. it may seem petty but i am fed up of finding a 12kg dumbbell in the 32 or finding a £20kg plate next to the machine leg press on the other side of the gym

Positive experience: There are 3 leaks in the ceiling dripping into the gym the anti sweat grips on the pull up bars make it uncomfortable to use and the majority of the weights are in the wrong position

Positive experience: I'd love to give this gym 4 stars. I absolutely love the classes and the trainers. But the women's toilets/changing rooms have not been properly cleaned for months. The sanitary bins have been overflowing and not emptied which has created an awful smell. And there is almost never toilet roll. I've seen trainers come in and do a "check" but nothing has been done to sort it out.

Negative experience: If I could give no stars I would, but I'll give it one cos it's in a convenient location. It's too hot, the equipment is crowded, nobody puts their equipment away, the staff simply do not care what is going on in the gym. Today there was a student event on, great idea to get young people interested in getting fit but there's no need to be blasting awful music for everyone who's already paying for a membership, so loud you can hear it over your own head phones on full volume. Completely ruined my work out. Could be great as it's in an ideal location but it's generally awfully run.

Fantastic experience: All PTs that work at this gym are really devoted to their job, so it's always nice to work out there. If you like cycling, the best group class is the SPIN with Will - great energy, great choice of music, always fun and challenging enough to feel exhausted. Before joining the class I didn't think I would enjoy it but thanks to Will spin is now my favourite cardio workout, which I do every week.

Negative experience: Don't get me wrong, the staff and PTs are truly lovely and I have enjoyed training here for years now. However, two really serious problems are prompting me to leave this review: 1) the free weights area is utter chaos, with weight plates and dumbbells all over the place - surely something can be done to improve member etiquette? 2) the air conditioning system is either broken or stopped to save money; this, combined with the absence of open windows or fans, is a killer in summer months, and it's probably outright dangerous when people are training hard. Happy to amend or remove this review when steps are taken!

Negative experience: The gym smells terrible and there is no blue paper or wipe available to clean equipment. So 4 days after this review I got this email from pure gym: Please be aware that the monthly price of PureGym Bristol Union Gate is increasing from Tuesday 20th June, meaning you will no longer be able to access this gym. Let's hope this is coincidence.

PureGym prides itself on being able to offer state of the art fitness facilities to our members in a safe and welcoming environment. We developed industry-leading cleaning and hygiene protocols to help keep our members and employees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, however, with the reduced risk and in line with the Government’s ending of legal restrictions, we have decided to remove self-cleaning stations in our gyms, which will also support our sustainability objectives by reducing our paper towel waste. We’re proud to say that many of the protocols implemented during lockdown, such as frequent and regular cleaning, and improvements to our air ventilation systems, will continue to be a core part of our TrainSafe Commitment. Negative experience: It's now nearly two months since the disabled toilet and shower were closed. The only other facilities are up two flights of stairs without any disability access. Utterly disgraceful.

Negative experience: Good location, weird layout and poor staffing. Changing rooms are several staircases away, and neither men’s nor women’s toilets had toilet paper. Accessible toilet was out of order. Nowhere you can get sanitary products either, and nowhere gender neutral which in bristol especially is important and avoids uncomfortable encounters for everyone. On top of this, it’s never staffed and it’s not clear when it will be or who to contact, so in the end we had to go to Poundland to buy our own toilet paper which is insane when you’re paying this much a month! Entrance cylinders are claustrophobic. Machines are fine and do the job, it’s a puregym.

Positive experience: I rarely write reviews, but this gym has been somewhat of a disappointment so I want to share some of my thoughts. I previously went to PureGym Brislington, which in my opinion is a much better gym, even though it's smaller. Here are some of the things that make me consider changing gyms again: 1) It's absolutely packed. I usually come in the late evening, around 9 PM and at that time there is over 130 people in the gym. There are not enough weights for such a crowd, so you will inevitably need to wait for a bit before almost every exercise. I was once curious and checked the website at 1 am to find out there were still 30 people at the gym at that time - I get that this is what you get with such a central location, but there must be something that can be done to reduce the waiting times. 2) This is a weird one, but the gym is just really... dark? The ceiling lights are honestly quite dim and there isn't quite enough of them. In comparison to the Brislington gym which has proper long fluorescent lights, this branch just feels way too moody and not as comfortable. I don't understand why they would design it like this, because it feels like proper light levels should be one of the first things you think of when designing a commercial space like this. 3) There are no dedicated spaces to put away weights. I don't understand why there aren't weight racks next to where they're actually needed, e.g. the squat and deadlift stations. Because there isn't a good place to put plates away, people end up just chucking them wherever or leaving them on bars and walking away. 4) There is no blue roll/sanitiser station or at least I couldn't find one when I needed it. This means there is no way to wipe the equipment before/after use, which I don't mind that much, but it is not very sanitary nonetheless. Overall, if you're only looking for cardio equipment then you're probably good, because there is loads of it and it doesn't seem to be in high demand. However if you want to lift weights, prepare for long wait times and messy lifting stations. You can still get a solid workout in, but it will take longer than you might expect.

Positive experience: It's in the centre of Bristol, and that's the good bit of it as it's on my way home from the office. Bad bits. - Team. M.I.A. If they exist, nobody knows where to find them. - Crowded. Mostly by boys with more testosterone in their veins than grey matter in their skulls. - Equipment. Cheap, bad planned in terms of what's available, and since it's crowded it's almost impossible to use any at certain hours. - It's not even cheap.

Negative experience: Always too busy. Too many members.If you read the owners replies on here they don't really address the problems they have. They just say what a popular gym they have and go at another time like 3am, etc. Too many muppets hogging machines playing on their phones pretending to rest between sets. Weights area is untidy with everything left on the floor and mixed up on the racks. Not a good gym if you have a routine of using machines. Always seems to be many broken machines with out of order signs on them.

Negative experience: Despite claiming to be “24 hour gym”, they locked me inside until 3am for reasons unknown. They CAN and will lock your possessions between midnight and 3 am. Note that this is only mentioned in the small print and it is by no means the only surprise to be found there.

Positive experience: Good gym at a low price. The gym has all the basic machines that you could need as well as a great area for loose weights and what they call a "functional" area which is also pretty good I guess. It has a mid to lacking amount of space compared to the number of users but all the equipment you need, maybe not everything you could want. The main issues are the AC system, that seems to break a lot and that they never seem to be able to fix, as well some machines being broken for rather prolonged periods. However other than those two gripes the gym does exactly what it's supposed to at a very reasonable price, would recommend.

Negative experience: Terribly crowded, unable to ever do the exercise/machine that you actually want to do, instead it’s more of a case of you’ll have to do what’s available because of the crazy demand for the equipment. Yes I’m aware that you can check how many people are in the gym before you go using the app however it’s always ridiculously busy whether you try early morning, 6pm or night time. Avoid if you’re aiming to achieve a goal as you won’t be able to do the exercises you want to. Also very smelly and blue roll and cleaning products usually run out!

Negative experience: Honestly a pretty good gym, classes are great and the staff are very friendly. However, a lot of the machines (cardio + resistance) have been out-of-device for a few months. Makes things even more difficult in an already popular/crowded gym.

Negative experience: Very likely will be switching gym unfortunately. The gym has become uncomfortably warm for running the past couple of weeks. A large number of the treadmills have been broken for a while now as well. Also bike exercise classes' music is far too loud (in my opinion). It's a shame that the bike class is joined to the main room as it makes the main room far too loud.

Negative experience: Overcrowded. There equipments broken down for 6 months. When this combined with insufficient equipment and overly populated gym, the workout becomes nightmare. The worst is though they turned down the ventilation system to save from energy bills and gym become so stuffy and smelly. Update (18/02/2023): none of the broken machines got repaired yet and on top of it the water fountain is broken more than two weeks now. I am in the gym right now and I would say the gym is occupied up to it’s 10% capacity yet it smells and the air feels so stuffy as the ventilation is not working properly in effort to save from energy bills. Update (25/02/2023): None of the machines got fixed. Water fountain is still broken. The air in the gym still stinks. On top of these, internet is gone too today ♂️ Update (04/03/2023): water fountain and the equipment is now repaired. Ventilation system back to normal again. Took 8 months but glad the gym is back to normal now. Update (18/03/2023): three more machines are broken now and the ventilation is not working for almost a week. It seems they can not keep things running normally more than a week! Update (24/12/2024): it was announced that the gym will be open until 16:00 but the assistant manager started to tell people leave at 15:30. When I told him that the notice on the door says 16:00. He said that was coming from the higher management and it is miscommunication and he is the manger in te gym. He insisted for me and other people leave when I told him that I will be gone by 16:00 but don’t want to leave early he said “this is getting serious now” and continued with “I am going now but if you are still here when I come back you will have a problem”. Way to treat a customer who asked them to stick with their schedule.

Positive experience: Unorganized dumbbells and weights in the gym are a big problem, you will spend half of your time looking for the weights!! Gym management needs to figure it out!

Positive experience: Four stars as I love PureGym in general, but I’m not a huge fan of this specific PureGym. It’s quite small, always quite busy, and the changing rooms are tiny and up on another floor. I always go to the Eastgate one over this one if I can help it.

Positive experience: Great commercial gym. Has all matrix machines, but a good variety and a good amount. Has recently been updated with many new squat racks and a few new machines. However can become way too busy during rushour. Those times should be avoided.

Positive experience: For what you pay, it's 'decent'. Nothing more, nothing less. You will always have to wait or do something else to use a piece of kit that you want (that isn't cardio), at least when it gets a bit busy, as the gym isn't the largest in physical space, but there are often too many people at the gym. Lack of space to do stretches with an exercise mat, mainly as the dedicated space is always taken for classes. Too many people hogging weights, sitting on machines for significant periods of time doing nothing but using their phones, etc. I've seen reviews from weights fanatics that claim that there's not enough space and equipment for weights in comparison to treadmills and other cardio equipment. I often run at the start of my workout and the treadmills are also very often mostly taken, leaving you with one left that no one wants to use (eg. Facing the wall). People often don't clean up with wipes after they use the equipment, which is pretty gross. Again, for what you pay, it's okay, but I am thinking of changing gyms as it's just not the best.

Negative experience: The worst gym in my life. They just have 3 machines for squats in which people do chest and dead lift as well. Lol I always have to wait atleast half an hour to get the machine here. I changed my time from evening to morning then to afternoon it’s the same. I came at 11 today and it’s 12 pm already I did not get the machine. Who wants to workout when the reaction of your pre workout is already gone. Never join this gym. Atleast 1000 people come here daily and still they have such a small amount of machines to accommodate. I am gonna cancel my membership now.

Negative experience: I know gyms are supposed to over-subscribe, but just been at 7pm on a Monday and it was so busy you'd have been waiting for every piece of equipment - turned around and went straight home

Positive experience: The gym is clean, has everything you need, a good variety of equipment, vending machines and well-maintained changing/showering facilities. Unfortunately though, the staff don't seem to enforce the rules, so expect to see weights on the floor everywhere and to spend 10 minutes before your set tidying up after the last person who used it. Additionally, the machines/cardio area takes up a good 60% of the floor space with another 20% going to studios. This leaves you with a pretty cramped free weights area and only 3 squat racks, 2 benches and 2 deadlift platforms along with the expected smith machines and a really decent variety of dumbbells. Overall, I would recommend this gym and still enjoy coming here myself: the membership doesn't break the bank, and most workouts will leave you satisfied, but it's far from ideal. Sometimes it gets frustrating to work out here on the regular.

Positive experience: The gym is nice, clean and in a very good location. However, there are too many treadmills/ elliptical machines that are not as frequently used as other weight lifting equipment. For example, there are only 2 bench presses which are almost always full but the treadmills/ elliptical machines are around 20%-25% full every time I go there (because there is just too many of them). The same is true for the leg machines, which are almost always full, the cables etc etc. The gym should consider removing some treadmills and using the space for other equipment which is in higher demand.

Positive experience: Don't bother going in the afternoon way to busy. I've been to 5 puregyms and this is by far the most over subscribed. However the kit is still top notch and I get good workouts in without being bother. Staff are lovely. Would love a hack squat machine tho.

Negative experience: The union gate gym has great facilities, friendly staff and good equipment. Unfortunately many members in the gym leave weights lying around or in the wrong place. It also seems that a majority of members don't bother to clean any equipment. The last time I used the gym it was difficult to find the weights I wanted as none were returned to the correct location and nothing was cleaned. This is a real shame as it could be a great gym!

Fantastic experience: Visited here about midnight on Monday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at the space. It offered huge a huge open area with tons of equipment. For anybody looking for cardio, weights, or functional. There were maybe 10 people in the gym at this time. We were also able to contact somebody to get our belongings out of the changing room as we mistakingly left them in there after 12 not realising that the changing rooms, were locked from 12 to 5, so this was a lucky escape.

Positive experience: Its a good sized place. However some of the equipment needs ro be renewed and the layout is a bit confusing in terms of where the changing rooms are. They need more arrows and signs. I was lost on my first day.

On the equipment issue, staff do regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers and facilities team to ensure that if there are any issues they are resolved as soon as possible. We are equally disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers or specific resources to resolve the issue but will have everything back up-and-running as soon as if safely possible. In terms of the layout and signage, please speak to the branch staff locally on this and they can assist further with suggestions such as these. We hope your time with us continues to be positive! Negative experience: music always too loud, especially when cycling and studio classes are competing to yell at their groups.
Fantastic experience: Back at the gym, definitely help relieve stress levels, helps you feel happier getting some strength back, and better sleep, and price is pretty cheap.

Fantastic experience: Ahhh union gate in the centre very lively and an electrical gym I'll be back soon you guys ;) Pros: Friendly staff and people Clean and hygienic gym Good quality equipment is decent Student Friendly good for students Electrical this gym is always lively and energizing. JAHREL IS A LEGEND Cons: Can be cold sometimes idk it's a con for me I dislike the cold it takes longer to warm up when it's cold Very busy during peak times and get can get crowded sometimes. Prices can change sometimes for this gym cause it's in the centre. Unlike the one in Lawrence hill which is huge this gym is a medium sized gym. (Not to big not to small). See ya soon.
