Our comment from FitFit UK about David Weir Leisure Centre:
The David Weir Leisure Centre in Carshalton is a community-focused facility offering a wide array of activities including gym sessions, athletics tracks, and sports courts. Visitors frequently commend the friendly staff, particularly in the reception and café, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
Among the highlights of the centre are:
- A diverse range of fitness equipment suitable for various workouts.
- Outdoor running track that is well-maintained.
- Facilities for children's gymnastics and other sports activities.
- A spacious cafe with affordable food and drink options.
However, some users have pointed out areas that need improvement:
- Parking can be a significant issue, especially during peak hours and local events.
- Several pieces of gym equipment, particularly cardio machines, are reported to be outdated or frequently out of order.
- Some areas, such as the bathrooms and certain gym machines, have been noted to require better cleanliness and maintenance.
Despite these concerns, many appreciate the overall value for the price and the opportunities for social and physical engagement at the centre. With potential for upgrades and improvements, the David Weir Leisure Centre continues to serve an important role in the local community.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
David Weir Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, especially in the cafe. Parking can be difficult at busy times.
Positive experience: Got everything you need for proper workouts, including outdoor running track. Cardio equipment is, however, outdated and broke here and there.
Positive experience: Been a member for a year and not seen any upgrades to the very old and rusty weights machines. Some parts have never been cleaned with accumulated dust and the bathrooms are consistently smelly and unclean. The gym priorities outsourcing events and group classes over its core competency as a gym and fitness centre. Hard to see where your membership fees go. Sad as the place has potential but is being managed in a run down state.
Positive experience: Overall not a bad gym for the price. Couple things I’d fix is the need for a direct debit upon sign up. As an international it made it hard to just get a single month of gym while I was there visiting family. Seemed to lack a fair bit of equipment but had enough to get by for sure. Overall friendly and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Reception staff are always friendly and welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Fun and friendly
Positive experience: Good location and some parking close by. Good equipment but staff are more interested in fraternising then actually doing their jobs.
Positive experience: Great venue for sports day!
Positive experience: Basic gym machines
Fantastic experience: The biggest problem is parking. During peak times you often don't get a space. You need to seek parking elsewhere which is hard because the council implemented a parking permits only parking to rip everyone off. It's a racquet. It's wrong. The "parking" problem was not addressed in the area and the council can fine visitors to resindents now during the day where there are mostly empty spaces.
Positive experience: Well spacious, just a bit run down, needs some refurbishment. Still good place to train
Fantastic experience: Circuits are great here on Sunday
Negative experience: Have been a member of the gym for 2 months now, there was cleaning equipment available a total of 1 time I attended the gym. One of The rowing machines has also been broken the whole time I have been a member. Staff inform there are no cleaning products as these are 'on order'. This is not sufficient for a gym facility. Currently 10 ppl around me none of which are able to clean any machines after or before use. Did covid not happen to everyone active?!
Positive experience: We have attended a number of sporting events at this centre. It appears well run, toilets are decent, cafe has a range of food and drink at decent prices and the indoor and outdoor Athletics facilities are good. Reception staff are helpful.
Negative experience: Very poor management skills, and certainly not professional at all the management!
Negative experience: Posted my review over a month ago and no one from Everyone Active has responded yet. 2 stars overall. Knocked off 1 star because the shower facilities are sub standard. Only one shower because the curtain only covers one. The curtain is mouldy. It blows towards you and sticks to you when you're in the shower. It hasn't been cleaned because I could see spiders and cob webs. I did not leave feeling clean. Knocked off 1 star because the gym facilities are basic and some of the machines are out of order. There's very limited equipment for the matt area - one roller, couldn't find any ab rollers, one ball, two bands. Knocked off 1 star because the cleanliness is low. Have 2 stars because the track and gymnasium facilities are good and there is a soft play area.
Fantastic experience: Excellent local authority run facility
Negative experience: 90 percent of the staff in there have not got a clue and have a chip on there shoulder. The gym is ok but westcroft everyone active is a much better place. Better gym better staff as they do more than just sit in the office all day playing games on there phone. If you live near the David weir then I guess it's convenient...if not don't go out your way to go there.
Fantastic experience: We hold birthday party there for 20 kids. They have cafe provide kids meal on very reasonable price, eating room huge. Staff extremely helpful! We had great time.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre including gym, café, small soft play and different sports halls. Friendly reception team. Large car park but space is not guaranteed as I think people park there and go elsewhere. I wonder if they will introduce a system to validate car park for leisure centre users only.
Positive experience: Good and spacious environment
Positive experience: Good gym but elevator has been out of service for MOST OF THE YEAR!! Really difficult to get up to the cafeteria if you have mobility issues. I’ve asked on numerous occasions when it’s likely to be fixed-been told they are waiting on parts. UPDATE: ELEVATOR HAS FINALLY BEEN FIXED! YAAAAAY!!
Fantastic experience: I’m using this place for last two months. It’s very clean and the staff there was very friendly. The trainer is really friendly.
Positive experience: Clean well kept Needs more hurdles kept out and equipment and available. Better hifi needed in the bottom gym with the weightlifting area. Nice reception staff, very polity and helpful
Positive experience: My daughter does gymnastics here. Carole and her team made children very proud of their weekly achievements. My daughter loves the instructors and they do their best for the children. Thank you team!
Fantastic experience: Recently joined the gym here nice gym but at the reception am greeted by a gentleman called Elliott who is all ways super friendly and all ways have a smile on his face fantastic bloke would highly recommend this place
Positive experience: Good gym
Positive experience: Very good Yoga, Pilates, and Zumba fitness classes. Haven't used the gym yet.
Fantastic experience: The staff are 10/10! Reception staff are especially helpful and friendly. I’m used to other sports clubs where you feel like you are wasting the staff time with silly questions but at the David Weir they always make you feel welcome. Such a friendly feel from the public here too. The track has a great surface and the gym is small but never seems busy and has everything you need. Iv been a member of David Lloyds, Virgin Actives, and worked in leisure for many companies but David Weir is my favourite!
Positive experience: It has a very big sports court that can host sports day for schools, however, it does not have enough space for students to seat that has a shelter, which may cause the students to have a heatstroke. There are limited amount of vending machines, should include more outside of the building to make I easier for the students to access.
Fantastic experience:
Fantastic experience: Loved it. Also had an in-house mart to get food. Made the experience worth it.
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: My knowledge and experience about this will remain great being the first track I trained as far back as in 2003. Good maintenance
Negative experience: Frequently does not open up on time. Supposed to open at 7am but staff Consistently turn up late. Waited for over an hour on one occasion, gave up and went home.
Positive experience: Attended district sports, nice venue with good seating. Toilets are also available.
Positive experience: Showing its age, and becoming a bit neglected. Otherwise an excellent venue and easy to get to via public transport.
Positive experience: Refresh & energetic by activities Vibe
Positive experience: Nice burgers but when my friend ordered adult chicken nuggets she literally just got three. Tek her for ediot . THEY CAN LITERALLY EAT A pussay
Positive experience: We visited the Softplay and it was fun. The centre itself seems a little run down. I can't comment on the other facilities
Negative experience: Car park too small for the size of the place especially with football fields next door and parking wardens issuing tickets. Indoor events unsuitable for any spectators.
Fantastic experience: David weir leisure center is a community facility offering various recreational activities, such as swimming, fitness classes, sports courts, and children's play areas. It promotes physical well-being and social interaction, catering to diverse interests and age groups.
Negative experience: Staff are brilliant but there is no parking available for people that actually be use the centre. Due to street parking restrictions parents use the car in park to park while they go to the nearby nursery, staff and patients at St Heliers use it which in means muggins who po ays an be annual fee to use David Weir can't be attend the class that he has paid for
Fantastic experience: Really good outdoor track and a good selection of weights and cardio equipment. Works well for us :-)
Positive experience: Halls were large enough for parties. Gym is rather small
Positive experience: Parking was an issue, and soft play simply too smal, everything else was good
Positive experience: My granddaughter had a friend birthday party there in the softball area & loved it
Fantastic experience: Its the best in the area. Lot of space to do a wonderful workout.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities for a KS1 sporting event.
Positive experience: No spectators allowed for students sports day
Positive experience: More classes during day would be great
Fantastic experience: When younger i used to use the gym regularly but now go to Dr referral classes which i can highly recommend. Eve Pam and Elona are the girls i have most contact with they are lovely encouraging helpful understanding i haven't enough praise for these ladies...over the yrs this place has changed my life both physically and mentally
Positive experience: Was here for Sports Day with my school. Very good facilities and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: Muy buenas instalaciones, la pista de atletismo es de alta calidad cubriendo todas las regulaciones para la práctica del atletismo.
Positive experience: Lovely day watch the boys do their thing. Some exciting races
Positive experience: Kids having School sports day.
Fantastic experience: Good place need to redo the indoor sprint area
Fantastic experience: the facilities are great, and the track is so much fun :D
Fantastic experience: Great place for athletics events. Did facilities and friendly people. Only issue can be parking when other events are taking place.
Fantastic experience: Incredible gym!!!! Massive improvements made and new kit
Positive experience: Great exercises
Fantastic experience: Great sports centre. Superb Athletics facilities
Fantastic experience: I only went here for a PCR test so I cant comment on the actual centre and services offered
Fantastic experience: Loved it very friendly like I'd never been away
Positive experience: Was there for an indoor athletics meeting. It appears that the staff don't appear to be too bothered in enforcing the Covid face covering rule. The café was "rammed" at times
Positive experience: I love Sarah's Zumba class
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Positive experience: Sutton and District athletics club is brilliant, great coaches. My daughter loves attending.
Fantastic experience: Ever since I've been doing classes (Yoga, Pilates, etc...), they've been gliding out.
Negative experience: Was and still is a good gym, if you can get parked and use it. They put in parking restrictions around the local area so what happens now is residents who don't want to pay for permits, nurses/doctors from St Helier and parents/staff from the nursery next to it just park in the car park. This means you pay for a membership to use the gym and car park but just cannot get parked. I contacted Everyone Active and they basically said they have to wait for Sutton Council to give them the money to put some gates in for members. Am considering cancelling and going to Pulse at Carshalton college as it is open earlier and has a gated member swipe car park, yes its a bit more expensive but if I am paying cheaper for David Weir and cannot use it then its not cheaper is it. They also clearly don't want this to become common knowledge for fear of scaring off new members as I posted asking if they were going to do something about it on Facebook and someone quickly deleted it.
Positive experience: Ok
Positive experience: Nice
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Very tidy and professional
Fantastic experience: Sports day on the field/track for Tweedale Primary School
Fantastic experience: The kids go here for gymnastics in the morning and the instructors on Saturday morning are brilliant!!! Would highly recommend these classes for the children. Beware of the lack of parking especially when football is on and while the covid test centre is taking up half of the car park
Positive experience: A friendly place to exercise. I can not give it 5 stars because of the lact of parking. When the football is being played on the field next to it, they use the car park. So there isn't any parking spaces for the actual people using the centre.
Fantastic experience: Great for running and kids camps .. gym is good too
Fantastic experience: Really nice to use, able to take my time and complete what I needed to do.
Fantastic experience: Lovely leisure centre
Fantastic experience: Saw our foster son access the cycling on Thursdays
Positive experience: Very good getting back to excercise under excellent conditions. The only problem is parking with Covid tent taking up most of parking area.
Fantastic experience: Been going to this gym for a couple of years now and I'll never stop going there. Staff are always polite. And there are also plenty of equipment to use.
Fantastic experience: I train here and it is fun
Positive experience: Very good cycling session
Negative experience: Not very clean the hall floor where I practised Pilates. Now a bit better because of the covid maybe. Good price but now long wait list for all classes and half of the capacity because of current pandemic
Fantastic experience: Fantastic social distancing, had to book gym. Plenty of room, but only half the machines usable
Fantastic experience: First time playing there. Top Mark's from me.
Fantastic experience: William - Physio excellent recommend
Fantastic experience: Really nice place to have fun and play football and run!
Positive experience: Good for parties
Positive experience: Good Athletics track.
Fantastic experience: Good environment and too clean amenities!!
Fantastic experience: I love this place. My daughter trains here. Everyone is just so helpful and friendly all the time. I would live to know what makes them so happy every day.
Negative experience: Soft play was okay although paretns and children from gymnastics came in before their class. Doubt they had paid to use it. And they most of them took their socks off which is unhygienic and goes against the rules on the wall. Was also chucked out 30 mins early as they had made and error with bookings.
Fantastic experience: Excellent modern stadium.
Fantastic experience: Good size running track. Good facilities. Only thing is be careful where you park as the council give tickets there and are £55.
Negative experience: Always no one answer the phone
Positive experience: A 7 minute walk from St Helier station or there is parking on site. The leisure centre caters for everyone. It is home to a running track and full athletics provisions. On the first floor is a lovely cafe which is good value for money. The whole centre is clean and well maintained.
Fantastic experience: Amazing support from the David Weir Leisure Centre in Sutton for #SHMACF. Saturday 22nd June.
