Welcome to the Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club, a charming hotel located in the beautiful surroundings of Ulverston, United Kingdom. Guests appreciate the stunning location by the river, which offers picturesque views and a tranquil atmosphere.
Many visitors have highlighted the hotel's excellent leisure facilities, including a well-maintained gym, swimming pool, sauna, and spa. Positive experiences also extend to the staff, consistently described as friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Reviewers note the helpfulness of the reception team and the hospitality of the restaurant staff, which significantly enhances their overall experience.
However, reviews point out that the hotel is in need of a refresh. While the room sizes are generally spacious and the views lovely, many guests have pointed out that the decor and furniture appear dated, and some furnishings show signs of wear and tear. Although the food received mostly positive comments, several guests mentioned that the breakfast and evening meal service could be improved, especially regarding consistency and quality.

Whitewater Hotel & Leisure Club: Opinions
Negative experience: So we were booked in for 5 nights. We left after 3 as we couldn't take much more. I've never been on holiday, where I have not felt relaxed. Room was disgusting. Spa area was under par. Limited menu...I would have to have eaten the same thing for all meals. Went down for dinner and the music was enough to make us cry....no ambience and depression. Come on it's Christmas! I expected a relaxing before Christmas break, but ended up so stressed. Christmas decorations dated and poor. So disappointing...2 nights wasted. Have never done a review like it.....should have been driving home today, but still crying and upset having to come home early.
Positive experience: We had a very enjoyable stay .food good, spacious and clean room .The hotel is a bit tired and dated but the staff more than make up for that.very friendly and helpful in a relaxed non”trained”way .it was clear they had good working relationship and worked as a team .would go again
Fantastic experience: Lovely place, spotlessly clean and gorgeous food..
Fantastic experience: Stayed for a weekend break. Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings next to the river. Room was large with a beautiful view out of the window. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed our evening meal. The food was lovely too. We used the spa facilities which were great. Will stay again
Positive experience: It's a good place, but the wifi is DREADFUL. We stayed there twice in 2 years, and both times, it was horrendous.
Fantastic experience: Loved my stay here staff very friendly and welcoming, I loved the gym and spa, Beautiful atmosphere and views
Negative experience: I stayed here in August 2024. The website has a picture of a room with 3 single beds which I had booked only to be told there were no rooms with 3 beds and I would have to share a double bed with my 6ft son. I travelled from Romford Essex to be met with this. Which was an instant let down for my son. The window of that room did not shut properly leaving a gap at the top and we attempted sleep with roaring sounds of the water outside. Beautiful but not when you need to sleep or value your security. The mini bar fridge was locked so we had no fridge access for 3 nights. Thank goodness none of us were diabetic. The staff seemed to lack knowledge of the local area and when asking about the local steam train I was met with a very pleasant response oh we are All new here and don’t know. This place is not what it is advertised to be which was my greatest concern, not a problem at all if it was marketed as 2 stars with up to date photos online so please be wary before booking and don’t be drawn in by the prices. The best thing going for it is access to a swimming pool.
Positive experience: Lovely location in beautiful surroundings Hotel is very dated decor wise, could really do with a bit of an update especially the bedrooms, leisure facilities were lovely, we used the gym, pool and steam room and all were clean and a lovely treat after a long drive.
Fantastic experience: A lovely relaxing gem of a hotel. Wonderful cosy rooms, very comfortable bed and fluffy pillows, nice breakfast and impeccable spa and leisure facilities.
Fantastic experience: Good swimming and gym facilities. Friendly people.
Positive experience: Great staff, very friendly, great location at the base of Windermere, hotel could do with sprucing up a little, the gym is great and quiet and the wife says the massage she had was lovely
Negative experience: My wife, 2 daughters and I stayed in a family room for 1 night. Pulling up in the car park, the hotel is impressively imposing and looks to be well established. Walking in to check in around 18:30 after a long drive down from Scotland, we were welcomed by a mildly interested front of house. We checked in, and enquired into food options, were given details of the on-site restaurant and bar, and shown menus on the adjacent wall. We were strongly advised to book the restaurant promptly should we decide upon there for an evening meal, which we did. Needn't have worried, my family were 1 of 3 tables in use in the restaurant with 14 empty. Our waiter was young but professional, however we were advised we had to order and collect drinks at the bar, table service was not available in the restaurant?? And we got charged a service fee?? That said the evening meals we had were nice and worth the asking price. The bedroom was very tired, worn out all over. The lighting was lacking and it was a very dark room. The mattresses and pillows were very uncomfortable and none of us had a good night's sleep, not on the double nor the 2 single beds. The leatherette desk chair was severely worn with material missing on the seat. The only good point was the background noise of the whitewater just outside. The bathroom again was tired, the bath panel was damaged and hanging off, the silicone sealant in need of redoing. The following morning we made use of the pool and spa facilities before breakfast. This is a nice feature of the hotel and a plus. However again front of house in the spa seemed disinterested in our presence and happy to pass over towels and let us go on our way. The pool was initially cold but we soon adjusted to the temperature. The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were great. Breakfast afterwards was awful. It's self serve, bar special requests for eggs. The poached eggs were very good to be fair. The presentation was sad, and the food was not of good quality, a real let down for us after a previous 10 nights spent in different hotels and B&Bs, this was really disappointing. The crockery, cutlery and milk jug on the table were all dirty, not as if they had just been used, but that they just hadn't been cleaned properly, no attention to detail. The croissants were all burnt, the bacon was not edible (and I love bacon even on a bad day). We stopped shortly after leaving to get food elsewhere on the road. The location of the hotel is stunning, it has potential to be a fantastic hotel, sited on the river Leven just South of Lake Windermere. Close enough to the action and sights of Lake Windermere, but far enough away that it's more relaxing and peaceful. However it needs a lot of love, from it's staff, the decor, and the food, before we'd entertain returning.
Positive experience: Nice setting the outside bar area could do with a lick of paint , friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Went here for a spa and dine. It was really relaxing. The treatments were superb. Afternoon tea with home made cakes and warm scones. Great day and great value. See you soon
Fantastic experience: Lovely service at Whitewater Spa and Hotel. I accidentally booked a room with three single beds for my family, but the hotel kindly upgraded us to a room with a double bed for my wife and me. The restaurant and spa facilities were also very nice.
Positive experience: Needs updating but great location and service. Had a superior room but it wasn't. Mattresses were awful our backs are killing us. Dust and muck on bathroom floor. At breakfast noticed plates cups and glasses were not very clean. Pool area needs supervising people vaping on poolside and running about made it a bit dangerous. Also changing rooms filthy at busy times. But like I say great location could be amazing.
Positive experience: Great night's stay. Family room was perfect. The pool was great for a relaxing swim with the kids. The food was ok in the downstairs bar, but limited choice. All in all beautiful location & highly recommended for a night's stay.
Fantastic experience: The room was SUPER nice, amazing views, the pool/sauna/spa all very clean and well maintain, the employees were super attentive when we needed help finding the closest A&E. Recommended for couples and families!
Negative experience: Not the best..... We stayed at Whitewater Hotel at the weekend. This was a night away for me and my wife to relax without the children. We arrived around 1:00pm. We knew we were early but just wanted to enquire about using the pool etc. We were met with a young girl who looked like she would rather be anywhere else in the world than sat behind her desk. We gave are names and we met with you are 100% to early to check in. We obviously knew this. She was rude and gave us our room number but said the room wouldn't be ready for a good few hours, but we needed the room number to use the pool. The pool staff were lovely and the pool itself was lovely and clean. Heading back to reception we then checked in. The room number was completely different to the one we were given but I suppose that didn't really matter. Just seemed odd. The room was lovely and clean but very dated and not much in the way of a shower, just a little trickle. We booked in for our evening meal. I ordered the Mussels and Sirloin. The mussels arrived, ALL 6 OF THE IN THE BOWL. no finger bowl. This was really disappointing. I have had mussels in many restaurants and they are usually overflowing. Not a great start. The steak was absolutely spot on, full of flavour and cooked to perfection and to finish was the most perfect cheese board. The waiting on staff were all lovely and the service was prompt. When we came to check out we were met with the same young girl as the previous morning. When I mentioned about the mussels she said she would pass the message on.... and that was that. No offer of anything else. Just asked for the £125 for the meal. She really didn't have much of a clue and quite frankly didn't want to be at that desk. Very poor. I wouldn't hurry back to this hotel and wouldn't really recommend it. Some front of house training may be a good shout.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel for families or small groups. Great hospitality and service was exceptionally high. The rooms were spacious and well maintained, highly recommend it.
Positive experience: The hotel looking a little tired and the afternoon tea was not up to usual standard
Fantastic experience: A wonderful hotel ,staff excellent, rooms clean ,spacious.Comfortable, bed 5 stars. The pool great size, gym 5stars,sauna clean fluffy towels as you enter the spa 5stars
Fantastic experience: excellent location lovely leisure centre and swimming pool very nice breakfast
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing stay. This is one of the oldest hotels in here. Breakfast was a typical English breakfast. The view from the rooms were extremely picturesque. There is a waterfall just beneath the hotel. There is a beautiful riverside walk.
Positive experience: Ours was a "special" trip. We ordered an 'executive room' with a WALK IN SHOWER. Booking was worrying, we never got a confirmation, despite 2/3 emails and phone calls. (This turned out to be because of a wrongly written email address at their end) The room did NOThave a walk in shower. The hotel is served by 2 lifts to cope with a sloping site. With little or no signage finding your way around is very tricky, when even staff are unsure. We obviously said we were not happy and were swapped rooms to another executive room with a walk in shower. Well that is if a 9 /10 inch step in was walk in. Food and service was good, though the same soup on all 3 nights was disappointing. The staff did all try to be helpful, and it appeared that many were fairly new to the hotel. We paid a fee of £250 per night for dinner bed and breakfast, so not inexpensive. I asked for a reduction and was offered £25. I asked if that was per night, it was not. Future guests should be aware that this hotel is going through a transitional phase, I believe it will improve when these issues are resolved.
Positive experience: The front staff was a bit rude and I didn't feel welcomed. The hotel is located in the south end of the lake, room is old and require renovation but it was clean.
Fantastic experience: We spent 3 nights at this lovely old-fashioned hotel. Nicely located for our trips out walking and sightseeing - including a trip to the nearby steam train station, a cruise across lake Windermere and a vist to the motor museum (walking distance from the hotel). The hotel has an old world feel that compliments its history of being a former mill and guests benefit from two restaurants (limited menu range but delicious food nonetheless), a bar, comfortable rooms and access to the Cascades where you get complimentary use the swimming pool, spa, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The staff were friendly and helpful (I asked for and got a desk fan as the rooms do not benefit from air-conditioning). Parking is free and there's lots of it! I really can't fault this place (my followers will know how picky I can be!). The hotel's age and olde worlde charm is one of many of its great features. You should try it.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place and extreme value for money you wouldn’t get a travel inn for much less then what we paid for this stay. Been a few time now and will always check here first
Positive experience: Lovely accessible room ? From reception DOWN 10 STEPS to the lift up to 2nd floor! Along 3 small corridors navigating doors on the way to 5 STEPS DOWN to room 210. The room is nice with bath and step in shower. Staff gave me a very strange look when I asked how the ACCESSIBLE room was down STEPS !!!!! ? Breakfast was good staff helpful but be warned if intentions are to have an evening meal allow for a long wait. Bar service not good, asked for fruit in a raspberry gin was told the kitchen was closed so would a slice of lemon or lime do ? Would we stay again? Definitely NOT.
Fantastic experience: Just a single night stay, but loved it. Lovely view from the room, down the river. So peaceful, just the birds and the water. Had small pizzas for dinner which tasted excellent, and a mojito cocktail, also delicious! Staff were helpful and well informed.
Fantastic experience: Excellent hotel, location, swimming pool! The restaurant offers great food and service as well as the bar. I would highly recommend it.
Positive experience: Great location, spacious restaurant and spacious outdoor table arrangement. Good food. The only negative is that individual staff lacking work commitments in restaurant. Long wait for dessert to order. Not enough light we had in our room.
Positive experience: This place has the potential to be stunning, it's location is beautiful but the hotel is now looking dated And requires a revamp, I visit here regularly and just hope money gets spent on it
Positive experience: Booked through CLC, the apartments are lovely and have everything you need for a relaxing break. The only downside is the nearest supermarket is 10 mins drive away and is not the cheapest. The sofas are not very comfortable. There was also some confusion over the price for the use of the leisure facilities across the road. For the record it should be £65 for the week per unit regardless of who's in the unit. Thankfully a very helpful gent at the spa managed to sort this for us.
Positive experience: Enjoyable stay in our timeshare apartment. I noticed a marked improvement with staff and facilities. Nice to see the Dolly Blue bar open and selling food again, albeit only at the weekend. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic experience: Great clean and huge room and ensuite. Staff all friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was lovely and they kept the buffet full. Blonde young lady and red/ginger haired young man very efficient and helpful. We ate dinner twice in the downstairs pub, sitting outside overlooking the river. Barman, I think his name is Graham, is really down to earth and friendly. Highly recommend the Tapas. All food was great and great service from everyone. Thank you for a lovely 3 days in your beautiful hotel
Positive experience: Visited for the restaurant, as very few pubs in the area. Had a selection of tapas dishes, which was actually pretty good, and not too expensive. Service was a bit impersonal by a 12 year old wage slave, but it's not her fault. Location is first rate, although bizarrely we were not allowed to eat outside, where the view is actually at!
Fantastic experience: The hotel facilities are good. The hotel looks more beautiful than the pictures, a nice water body adjacent to the hotel enhances the overall experience. The staff is polite.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely lovely place to stay, spa was nice , services really was amazing, reception staff go above for the customer.
Positive experience: All perfect but no pub in walking distance and poor breakfast service and selection of foods
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel, yes a little dated but the staff here are really friendly and the views of the Leven is outstanding. The restaurant is good, with a quality breakfast and a fine dining evening meal. Shout out to Greg and Danielle, they have excellent customer service.
Fantastic experience: Hotel, staff and food lovely. 2 night stay with my daughter and a few treatments in the spa. Lovely countryside too.
Positive experience: Just dropped in for a drink so can't comment on the rooms, but lovely location and seemed like a pleasant place with great views along the river.
Fantastic experience: Perfectly placed to access the steam railway, motor museum, aquarium and lake Windermere. A few minutes from Cartmel (buy some of their famous sticky toffee pudding), and the Damson Dene Hotel which is home to a miniature village. The Stan Laurel pub in Ulverston is a lovely place and the pub grub is fab. Whitewater Hotel Guests have access to the pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room in the adjacent spa. We swam and hot tubbed every morning. It was bliss. The rooms were lovely, as were the staff. Would be booked up again in a heartbeat. A fabulous hotel in a great place.
Fantastic experience: Perfect. All good. No issues, friendly staff in the hotel in the restaurant and in the bar as well. From 5 star ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐: 6 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
Positive experience: Enjoyed our stay here overall. The location and room was lovely. It did get a little hot on the nights and we had no visible way to turn the heating down but other than that it was a nice clean spacious room with a nice view. Great use of spa facilities including the pool which again was clean and well equipped. My only gripe was the food. The breakfast was lovely however the evening meal was a let down. Bland risotto and the burger was dry. £15 for a kids meal of chicken nuggets and chips and you get nicer ones from the supermarket. I would stay in the hotel again but I would skip the restaurant.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel with helpful staff. Bit limited menu but burger was nice. Close to local attractions in the lakes
Negative experience: Lovely looking hotel Food is very basic ,staff weren't very friendly definitely didn't make us feel welcome. They didn't clean our room or replace used towels And our room was cold There is slot of room for improvements
Fantastic experience: lovely place good buffett breakfast. room was Nice and fairly clean and comfortable but just view of the car park.we took our dog too not too expensive for him at 10 pounds a night. used the pool which was nice but fairly small
Positive experience: I spend my working days baking and serving afternoon teas so my brother and I decided to bring my mum for Afternoon Tea as an early Mother's Day treat......this would also be a change for me to be eating one instead of serving one. We were brought our tea (no hot water) in two not very big pots (there were four of us) which had pretty much gone by the time our food arrived about 20 minutes later. When the food arrived I asked for some hot water, and one small pot was brought, just enough to make a weak top up each. The sandwiches and scones (served warm - lovely) were very nice but the cakes were very disappointing. The coffee cake was seriously lacking coffee, the Victoria sponge was mediocre, the brownie was very stodgy and the cheesecakes were in such small shot glasses that the teaspoon provided didn't even fit.....we had to use the end of the teaspoon handles to get to the bottom. Disappointing!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved our stay, Thankyou Location good, food nice ,staff could not been better they were exemplary We shall come again but have a executive room so we over look the river
Positive experience: Lovely place very nice staff spa was great bit far to walk to nearest pub but lovely anyway .
Fantastic experience: This hotel and Spa is amazing. The hotel itself is quite dated but clean and tidy and everything is where it should be. The 4 poster bedroom which I stayed in was beautiful, with stunning views over the river. The only problem I have is with the staff, at breakfast they were too busy concentrating on the wrong things, there was no butter on our table, no wholemeal bread left and all of the breakfast items were undercooked and appeared boiled (who boils sausages and bacon?) We asked for butter and we was told they would bring some to the table, but they never did so i had to go to another empty table to steal it from there. (They seem very protective over the butter). They also had run out of Strawberry Jam and there was no milk on our table. The staff appeared to be really struggling with the concepts of work and customer service. The spa facilities are beautiful and clean, the staff at the spa were much friendlier than the hotel staff and seemed interested in the customers which was nice. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, and I would return but the hotel needs to pay close attention to the quality of staff it hires or it will result in less lenient reviews by others.
Positive experience: Slippy floors n a big mirror facing reception desk n any male going past to their lockers which were more suitable. The big mirror should be on the opposite wall. Didn't feel secluded enough
Fantastic experience: Went there for a Valentines / wedding anniversary stay. Good value, excellent hotel, clean tidy with lovely interior and exterior. Room was spacious and well presented with a fantastic river view. Food was excellent, always tasty but this was probably one of the best meals we have had there. Staff were really friendly, approachable and extremely helpfull, big shout out to GRACE on reception, GREG on hospitality and particularly to WESLEY from cascades spar- all above and beyond. We have been to the Whitewater several times before and will definitely be going back.
Positive experience: Me and my partner stayed there for two nights. The location of the hotel is amazing right by the river, and no, you can’t hear it at night so there’s no issue with that. The restaurant seemed very pricey, but the food was really nice so it did make up. Staff overall were very friendly, and responded issues quickly. The rooms were satisfactory. It was all tidy apart from a half eaten protein bar I found next to my bed. During our first night at around 4am the paining fell off the wall, and woke up both of us. We reported this to reception and it got fixed when we came back. Overall the stay was lovely, but it’s a shame that my note of “please make it extra special as it’s for our anniversary “ didn’t get noticed, and that swan loveheart towl wasn’t there.
Fantastic experience: Really don't understand some of the reviews here. The only thing I could say is that the rooms are a little tired but spotlessly clean and comfortable, apart from that the value for money here is amazing. Staff in the restaurant are great, limited vegan options but the Mushroom Risotto was excellent, you can also get a packed lunch sorted if you can't make breakfast which starts at 8am. That's an ok time for tourists but not those working away, the packed lunch was great and sorted out by Claire on reception. In the evening you can use the Gym, Pool, Sauna, Steam room as well which I made full use of, what's not to love.
Thank you for your review Ian, we look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater when your next in the area. Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: After seeing some of the other reviews this hotel had, we had lowered expectations for our stay. Turns out this was completely unfounded - our stay was amazing! From start to end, all hotel staff couldn't do enough for us, while continuously being approachable and friendly. The location is beautiful, the hotel decor uses local materials and reflects the history (personally we didn't find the decor dated or needing modernising, not everything has to be sleek and modern, we loved the wooden beams and deepset windowsills!), and the food was gorgeous. Having the leisure centre access included was a wonderful bonus we enjoyed utilising. All round this hotel has everything we could have wanted and more for a stay in the Lake District. We're already planning our next trip here!
Thank You for your review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel. Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: It's staff are friendly and helpful, but the place could do with about £250000 spending on a refurbishment in the main areas
Fantastic experience: What a lovely hotel loctated in a very quiet village just off a590. Janet was lovely on reception, very helpful and always happy and smiley... the manager was polite and helpful when seeing him passing. Outstanding service from breakfast and evening staff, especially Gemma, Kyle and everybody else working. Thank you Whitewater hotel!
Fantastic experience: Another lovely stay. Meals exceptional and I can’t complement all of the staff that we’re working this weekend. Everyone was friendly, helpful and went above and beyond. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Absolutely lovely time here. We booked 3 day stay just after Christmas as it was bliss. Room was huge, so was the ensuite, shower and a separate bath. Big balcony as well. Staff are incredible!! Such attention to detail and the food is lovely. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater in the future. Kind Regards Claire Reception Manager
Positive experience: Its looking tired! Everything closes on 2nd, the pub was closed even before new year's eve!!! Could be an amazing venue. The best part is the view of the river crashing under the bridge in front...
Thank you for your review. The bar was not closed on New Years Eve, if you can contact me on 01539531133 I can discuss this further with you. Kind Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience once again , all the family didnt want to go home. Attention to detail, especially from Claire, head reception, is so personal nothing too much trouble. Rooms amazing, food great the spa and pool welcoming strongly recomend anyone to stay.truly outstanding.Graham, jen and girls.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you all enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater in the future. Claire Reception Manager
Positive experience: For a last minute booking it was extremely helpful, as our previously booked hotel was out of service due to the snow. The rooms were relatively comfy but got too hot especially at night. They had complementary cookies and teas on the side bench of the room, which was lovely. The view from our window was very pretty especially in the morning, so the location from an aesthetics point of view was quite nice with all the melting snow. The distance from the hotel to other areas was quite far and not in-walking distance, so vehicle travel will be a must if you stay here. The complimentary breakfast was OK, would be better if it was in a buffet format rather than order-format. The service was alright, the receptionists were always very kind to us. The restaurant server had a bit of a quirk the first night we were around, but the bar staff were very sweet especially ordering something quick for me to eat after the lunch cooking period had finished. Additionally, the wait-time for dinner was extremely long and it took about 50 minutes for food to come out after we had initially ordered it and it was about 25 minutes for dessert. Would recommend for a short-stay but go elsewhere for dinner especially.
Thank you for your review.
Fantastic experience: Customer service was fantastic when asking about what time the pool closes, thank you Isaac for your wonderful customer service
Thank you for your review. I will be sure to pass the comments on to Isaac. Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Amazing hotel, friendly staff, lovely room, will be back again… food and leisure facilities were fab
Thank You for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel. Regards Claire Reception Manager
Positive experience: Beautiful hotel in stunning location. We had a beautiful room that was so comfortable. The leisure centre was great. Good choice of breakfasts, and did in the restaurant is very good. The one downfall- the lift was out of order and we were on the 3rd floor.
Thank you for your lovely review of The Whitewater Hotel. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future. Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel and staff . Great location at the edge of the lakes and great spa facilities
Fantastic experience: Came for the weekend to take part in the xmas fayre and stayed the night. The atmosphere was brilliant, we got given a hospitality drink for holding a stall we were looked after. Our evening meal was amazing and I can definitely recommend the honey combe cheese cake. If there there was one criticism would just be the bathroom could definitely do with a revamp but all in all lovely and I'll be back Thank you for your hospitality
Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed the Christmas Fayre and the Honeycombe Cheesecake. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel in the future. Kind Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: I stayed here a few days a go with work. The staff are a credit to you, food was well presented and tasted great. Well done to all Great location,
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel. Kind Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Great hotel, couldn't fault it! Yes the decor is a bit old fashioned BUT the service from staff (Janet on reception and staff on the restaurant) was spot on, the food was fab and the location was great! Lovely lil hotel, well worth a visit.
Thank You for your review. I will ensure this is passed on to the team. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel and Spa. Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Lovely location. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Pool and Spa are great
Thank you for your lovely review. Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Just had a lovely stay, everything was perfect. The spa experience and afternoon tea was amazing and excellent value for money. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable we stayed in a family room which was lovely and warm. The facilities at the pool are lovely with a gym, pool, sauna couldn't ask for anything more. Will definatley visit again.
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Whitewater in the future.
Positive experience: Me and my partner were both shocked at the way the owner of the hotel was scolding and talking down to the receptionist in a very condescending way and very loudly at that, when we were booking out. I firstly thought this woman, who appeared disabled, hobbling around with a stick or walking stick was a very obnoxious rude customer or a member of the public giving the receptionist abuse, but we shortly found out to our horror that she was the owner of the hotel ! As with other comments made from other customers who had stayed at, The Whitewater Hotel, we can relate to their comments, water pressure low, hotel needs a little updating, but it was the amount of tatty chairs that caught our eye. If they can't afford nice tidy chairs then the best idea I think would put them in places less noticeable, not in the foyer or being the first chairs noticeable in the lounge areas. The most important mention here though was the rudeness from the owner of the hotel in front of the public or even if it's out of the public eye, is disgusting and staff shouldn't accept it's very very wrong!
Good Morning, this is Claire the Reception Manager. I am really sorry that your stay with us wasn't what you had hoped for. Please call me direct on 01539531133 so I can discuss this with you further.
Fantastic experience: A great location, close to a lot of activities that can be done with the kids… Lakes Aquarium, Steam Railway and Lakeside for boat cruises … Lovely staff at the hotel that provided me with everything I needed for my kids and hotel room was fine… only downside was that our family room didn’t have a view of the river, but other than that everything was amazing!
Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed you stay at The Whitewater Hotel.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel with a bar open to the public and outside you can see the river leven, there's also a road bridge over the river and the force of the water goin under was amazing just after a big rain storm
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel in the future.
Positive experience: Lovely spa, had a great time with the mud rasul, the afternoon tea and the hot tub!
Thank you for your lovely review.
Fantastic experience: Excellent location breakfast was great the first 4 days then went very down hill on our last day breakfast order was taken for 2 poached eggs which were hard boiled toast they served was burned crust sadly
Positive experience: Beautiful location and setting. Had a room with a river view. Unfortunately couldnt see much because the windows needed cleaning inside and outside ( throughout hotel). Room and hotel is somewhat tired / dated and in need of refurbishment. Bath panel hanging loose from bath. Poor water pressure for shower. Took 4 mins for water to run hot in the shower. Good evening meal though breakfast was disappointing. Reinforced why we usually go abroad when you get better for the money
Negative experience: Staff were friendly on arrival, reception looked amazing, however when we got in the room it was disappointing, the bathroom shower barely worked and leaked all over the floor, the bathroom cabinets were hanging off the walls. The electrical items were out of date for testing. Our window would not shut as the wood at the top of the sash window was broken. The view was beautiful and listening to the river was very relaxing. We decided to use the spa and was told someone in reception would provide towels, there was no one in reception to speak to. But when they finally came back they was very helpful. Pool was freezing and the whole place needs a refurb as things are old and falling apart. For the money we paid for bed and breakfast, it really wasn’t worth it. Breakfast was pleasant and there was a few choices. The location of this hotel is stunning however it would need a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to standard, especially for the price they are charging.
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel in a beautiful location made even more special because of the staff. The room overlooked the river, restaurant food really good and worth the price tag. Staff, friendly, quick and nothing too much trouble... A real credit to the hotel and just made the whole experience amazing
Thank you for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Whitewater Hotel in the future.
Positive experience: We’ve stayed here for two nights and had a great time. Our room was a bit outdated but an overall experience was good. The spa facilities were great (although the pool temperature could be a bit higher) and included in price. Breakfast is really good. The only thing I could really complain about is water pressure in a shower. It was very weak.
Negative experience: Sadly this is one to avoid. The hotel is currently up-for-sale and evidently the owners are spending little if anything on upkeep. The staff, (whilst nice enough), have lost heart and doubtless feel insecure about their future and have no interest in things. The place feels dead/soulless. The food is 'reasonable' but again, costs are being cut; breakfast for instance is very limited, with things like pastries only being put out if asked for. Automatically adding a 10% service charge to the bill (without mentioning it) is one thing, but then watching you unwittingly tip 10% in addition was a bit rich! My fault maybe for not checking. Maintenance in 'minimal' and rooms are all very dated. Décor is tatty, bathroom fittings have been patched up to hold as best as they can, toilet roll holders hanging from the wall, grout missing from tiles, and the exterior of the building is being equally ignored. The adjacent 'spa & leisure club' is getting equally grim. The pool seems clean enough, but the poolside is dirty as are the changing rooms and the roof seems to have leaks that need addressing. Furniture is worn and the mattress we had in our room was battered... two deep impressions where the springs were collapsed. It's a real shame as clearly, back in the 80's and 90's this must have been quite the place. Hopefully somebody will buy it and pump the necessary funds into it and give the place a new lease of life and provide some meaningful employment for the locals. For the time being... book elsewhere.
Positive experience: Hotel quiet and no real atmosphere, staff dressed in casual clothing, dull and dingy Surrounding . Room clean and tidy, good size, evening meal let down with a very fatty lamb chops, complained with no joy. Breakfast overdone and dry but staff very friendly. Spa hot tub only some working but ok in general. Nice products in bathroom and good selection of beverages and biscuits in the room.
Positive experience: Fantastic place and value, staff very professional and friendly and for a vegetarian wonderful food. Things I would Improve on if it was my hotel We came for our anniversary as stated on the email a card/a few chocs in the room or a plate with happy anniversary on the plate after our meal would of made it special or staff acknowledging it as we arrived also. Outside of spa need painting and inside the pool area the rain was coming in at the side of my lounger i put my towel down to absorb the puddle forming. There was no availability for a treatment (staff shortage) but should be providing treatments into the evening. Room could do with a fridge and pelmets re attaching and the windows woke us as they rattled when windy. In the main eating area which was lovely the curtains just need taking down and ironing Also availability of cocktails would increase profit All simple inexpensive touches
Fantastic experience: We stayed here for a birthday weekend I planned for my girlfriend. The bedroom on the third floor was superb, with balcony overlooking the river below. Good sized room nicely decorated and kept clean. With t.v. coffee and tea making facilities and complimentary biscuits. There was a good sized wardrobe and plenty of drawers to unpack into. The room had hairdryer, iron, ironing board and a trouser press. We didn't unfortunately have time to use the pool and spa facilities, however they were easily accessed via second floor over a walkway between buildings, and were kept very clean. There were two bars that we used Dollys bar downstairs with riverside seating was perfect for evening drinks in the sun, and the main bar also with access to a terrace overlooking the river. A good slection of wines, beers and spirits, our jug of Pimms went down a treat. The restaurant served food that was beautifully cooked and perfectly presented, and an extensive wine list to accompany a superb menu.
Negative experience: The hotel staff was not friendly at all. They failed to make a well done egg twice. Ordered a lemonade but got a sparkling water instead and the staff insisted it was a lemonade. Hotel lift was not working had to go a couple of floors to get to our room. When we went out for activities wanted to call hotel to make dinner reservations but for a whole hour they did not answer calls. Staff was generally cold and not helpful in any way. Had one of my worst hotel experiences here. Not even third world countries give such service.
Positive experience: If you book via groupon beware. We were put into to 3 rooms before being able to have a hot shower and not even offered a complementary drink for all the upheaval. The dinner option states a main meal, I understand meal to mean s couple of courses but no. You get a main course and that is it. Very misleading...Staff were generally friendly and helpful but all seemed a little lacklustre. For a special birthday celebration it was a little disappointing.
Negative experience: We paid 190 pound for a double room....and although the building and the area are stunning....the room was not..on arrival i found a load of hair on the table..a cigarette in the chair...the shower coming of the wall..the bath filthy. ..they sent Dane to clean the room..and i told him about cable ties holding curtains on and the chair with wonky legs...we went for dinner and had to wait so very long for dinner...menu was quite sparse....the serving staff were unclean and scruffy...food was okay though.Dane did arrange that we werent billed for dinner as a sorry about the room for which we were grateful...Breakfast was a massive disappointment....i was expecting a continental breakfast...nonexistant....no hams, cheeses, or anything that anyone would expect for the price paid....blackpool bnb brekkies at top rate prices...not good. The staff apart from reception lady and lad called Dane.....were slow..sullen and unkempt. I would like to praise Dane though...he was really good at his job all the while seemingly doing everybody else's jobs as well...poor lad was run off his feet....so yeah in summary...not worth the money that the beauty of the outside makes it look like.... We made the best of it all though in the jacuzzi..pool and saunas.
Fantastic experience: This is our second visit to the Whitewater hotel. Great location, Excellent breakfast. Spacious family room. The pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi was so relaxing after a long walk in the beautiful countryside. We will return soon.
Positive experience: The best thing about this hotel is the staff. The two ladies who work the reception and the waiting staff are a credit to the hotel and I really hope their employers appreciate everything they do.
Thank you for your reply. I will ensure this is passed on to the team. Regards Claire Reception Manager
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel and location with very friendly and helpful staff. They even made the extra effort for a birthday with a card and some chocolates in the room when we arrived. Will definitely be returning!.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place with first class check in from the girls on reception. Was thinking of not reviewing as would love to keep this place a secret just for us
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic place, reception was very efficient and polite, lovely interior. Bar staff very good and friendly, room was massive and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and evening meal were very good. Would 100% recommend this place.
Fantastic experience: We broke down right next to this hotel at the weekend as luck would have it and no recovery was available until the morning. The night porter was able to sort us with 3 (very reasonably priced) rooms at 2:00am and we had an incredibly comfortable night’s sleep as well as a fantastic cooked breakfast. We feel VERY lucky that we didn’t make it to the Travelodge on the M6
Negative experience: This was our 4th time staying at the whitewater and it was not good. Nothing was open in the hotel apart from the upstairs bar. We appeared to be the only guests in the hotel but on 3 occasions had to go walking around for someone to help us. I've complained direct to the hotel with more issues I haven't mentioned but they haven't got the courtesy to respond to me! Very bad hotel and would not recommend.
Positive experience: Got a last minute room for £158 for two nights which i thought was very reasonable but couldnt get into the restaurant and no other restaurants or pubs anywere near this place so had to walk down a sketchy road in pitch black to nearest petrol station to get somthing to eat.. two single beds in room which was a good job because the beds are waaay too narrow for a medium sized person so i butted both together... the radiator went all the way round the room and was on full blast with no option of turning it down so i had to leave the windows open for the two days as i was way to hot and uncomfortable! The breakfast that was included was superb the best bit about the stay by far.. my only regret is forgetting my swimware and not using the pool facilities!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hotel with amazing views. Big spacious room with. Staff are really friendly & helpful. Had 2 breakfast & 1 evening meal. Food was outstanding with a great choice for breakfast. We used Cascades Leisure Centre several times over our wknd stay. Making the most of the gym, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi at no extra cost. We'd definately stay again.
Fantastic experience: Spent two nights here and had a lovely break. We loved everything about the hotel, The Gym and Spa was one of the best we have come across. The staff couldn't be any more helpful and friendly than they were. We really enjoyed the food, both the evening meal and breakfast. We have booked another stay in May 2023 for my Birthday. I would really recommend a stay here.
