PureGym Banbury Cross Retail Park - Upgrade Complete!

Fantastic experience: I joined PureGym in April and honestly felt out of my depth at first. The gym seemed intimidating—full of confident people who clearly knew what they were doing—while I had no idea where to start. But from my very first introductory session with Chris, I was made to feel welcome, and joining turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Fast forward eight months, I’ve lost nearly two stone, my fitness level is the best it’s been since I left school several decades ago, and I’ve discovered a confidence in the gym that I never thought possible. At 52 years old, I’m doing deadlifts (who even am I?) and am genuinely addicted to working out. The classes are a standout feature for me—varied, challenging, and fun. Some of my favourites are run by Chris, Steph, Freddie, and Connor—they all bring so much energy and encouragement to their sessions. Chris deserves a special shout-out for his kindness, patience, and support. As I mentioned, he was the first person I met when I joined and I genuinely think it's down to him that I went back! He's the sort of instructor who celebrates every milestone, no matter how small, and is always focused on proper form which is so important. It's down to him that I'm deadlifting (which makes me feel like a total badass!) and his classes are a must-try if you want a good laugh while also pushing yourself to achieve things you didn’t think were possible. I’ve even made “gym friends,” whoop whoop! The community here is so positive and motivating—it’s been a game-changer for me. If you’re nervous about joining or just starting out, trust me, just sign up and ask for Chris. You won't regret it....

Fantastic experience: Loads of classes with great instructors. Freddie and Chris in particular do interesting routines and are very helpful and friendly. Just off to circuits with Chris right now :)

Fantastic experience: Very well structured sessions where consideration is given to the ability of the participants with alternative exercise provided where needed to cater for specific people. Lessons are run very professionally, on-time and to an expected format.

Negative experience: Got kicked out for wearing crocs :(

Positive experience: Excellent gym and great value for money. Only marked down for lack of certain facilities (but prices reflects that).

Negative experience: 28/06/24 5am. Really unkinde staff. Awoid at all cost. If I would have the power.... Would shot that place down for good and didn't let that person ever work for providing service for people more than cleaning toilets in hospital after patients with Diarrhea

Negative experience: Update : got some emails from the management team and THEY BROKE INTO IT , shocker I know … also 4 weeks in without my items and lame excuses as to why they cut ONLY my locker like aaa you’re not allowed to lock it over night and the most recent excuse is that they had to do some work and that they’ve cut 2-4 lockers but the reality is that only mine and someone else had it locked and the other one it’s still locked to this day . They could have left a note on the locker that they had to cut it and to call someone or something like that , or leave a note to remove my items before they cut it but they didn’t and decided to do it this way. Also just a funny mention, they didn’t use to have lockers in the changing room and this was my complaint in a review that I left months ago and now they’ve changed that with the “renovation” and as a thank you for a good improvement ideea they do that to me anyway …. Cancelled my membership and will not be collecting my stuff , they can keep them … Just be careful if you join this gym and dealing with these ppl . Bought a new padlock from PureGym and used it to lock my stuff , 2 days later someone broken into the locker , everything is gone padlock and all , locker is empty… well done I’ll be going there again , NOT !!!! Rejoined after 2 months tough they’ve changed some stuff maybe some new equipment but … NAH !!!! Just slapped some paint on the walls and moved some stuff around … pathetic.

Negative experience: The renovations have been a nightmare and you would think as an act of good will for putting up with it that pure gym would offer at least months free membership but no! Expecting members to try and work out in a building site for the last 2 months! To crown it off the useless water fountain was out of order so the only place to get water was the toilet sink no offer of bottled water while their getting it fixed etc. The new lay out is pretty bad as the upstairs is now really cramped, its is good that they’ve got some new rigs installed and invested in new weights etc but overall it’s not great!

Negative experience: Will be cancelling my membership and telling others to do the same !! New renovations are horrible, no room for weights and all resistance machines are cramped into a corner, far too many unused cardio machines with excessive space left empty in an attempt to make the gym more appealing to people who don’t want to actually work out. Has ruined the entire purpose of the gym, anywhere with a treadmill now has equal value

Positive experience: Class was good, though the gym is currently undergoing some construction, so was a little confusing where the class actually was initially. Busy place when I went.

Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, classes and amazing staff. Always a friendly atmosphere and cleanliness is 10/10. Highly recommend and suitable for all ages. After not being in a gym for almost 15 years, I was wary about joining a gym but Pure Gym Banbury have made it a great experience

Fantastic experience: Enjoy going to PureGym, the instructor's are all very competent and friendly. The classes are good but can feel at times rebetative. The gym has a wide range of equipment. Changing room is kept clean but I think the showers could do with an update also the vanity area .

Negative experience: Need more equipment

Positive experience: The classes do not last the expected time showing they should, they are always shorter for example if a class states 45 minutes it will last 25 minutes. Classes are not made harder throughout the class. Especially on circuit classes there are only 3 rounds, 4 rounds would be better to ensure i feel like I’ve properly worked out.

Fantastic experience: Just smashed LBT with Gemma tonight, great class and Gemma jumped in for Yoga as Katy was poorly, nothing was too much for Gemma to step in and it was great! Great asset to Pure Gym Gemma thank you

Fantastic experience: Great gym, friend staff and PTs, something for everyone and it's always clean. For me I go a bit randomly in a day and there is always space and equipment and where someone may be using it, people are generally friendly.

Negative experience: The gym is in desperate need of an upgrade. Alot of the equipment is old and there aren't alot of bars and ropes for the cable machines, lucky to find any, and thats early hours of the morning. It's the only Puregym within many miles from me, and the other which is in Buckingham is even worse. They spent money doing one of the three gyms out in Reading recently that I go to, and that didn't even need doing, had everything. Should have spent the money doing the Banbury one as unfair that you pay the same price but get poor quality old machines, no privacy in the workout area like the other gyms have and not as much choice of equipment. The only good thing is that the cleaners do a great job.

Positive experience: PureGym Banbury is very busy. If you want to do cardio you will get on the machines. Weights however, I have to go late at night to get on them.

Fantastic experience: Good facilities! But even better staff! Catia is one of the fitness coaches,that will make sure, you're reaching your fitness goal. She's down to earth. Very knowledgeable. An absolute energy ball and you can see,she loves helping people to better themselves. A thumbs up from me.

Negative experience: Very crowded and congested. Only found a treadmill free. All racks were busy.

Negative experience: This gym never has hot water for showers i have been here for more than a year and it never has hot water at least tell us that there is not hot water but no time and time again there “boiler” is broken. Im scared that i will get ill and have to go hospital but if i do are you guys gonna pay for that?

Negative experience: Tripped on a treadmill today. The treadmill worked for about three minutes and stopped by it’s self out of sudden. Photo of the error message attached. Tried to confront the manager (Tobi?), he did not want to talk to me while standing at the treadmill and tried to convince me to go to his office. I asked him to to continue our conversation where we were - he simply ignored me and walked off. No offer to fill in an accident report, no apologies. Would appreciate an area manager to contact me.

Negative experience: Worst gym ever! Freezing cold showers, no warning, no apology and no refund! Avoid!!!!

Positive experience: Clean and tidy and all the equipment one would expect, except a couple of full height punch bags and a women-specific toilet! A cycle shed right outside the door is another plus. Keep those hand sanitiser dispensers topped up though please!

Positive experience: A nice spacious gym with lots of equipment and easy access parking! I go here whenever i am visiting family, the classes are great but is a shame the timetable has been reduced. I wish the staff asked people to wipe down the equipment also.

Negative experience: Bardzo słaby sprzęt, brak wielu maszyn.

Negative experience: Be very carefull when you want to stop your membership. Apparently they have a policy that you have to cancel the membership with 4 working days before expiration. Otherwise they will take your money. It happened to me, and when I asked for refund they refused to give me the money back, even I haven't visited the gym for 2 weeks before cancellation. Thieves, every company with common sense whould have refunded the money, not so "pure" if you ask me.

Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and basic, but easy to use equipment. Very good for a budget-friendly, LGBT inclusive and 24hr gym.

Positive experience: Strange gym with a very odd set up across two floors and no lockers in the changing room so you leave your bag and on the side when you shower or you go onto the gym floor in your towel to collect your belongings from the locker

Hopefully when they email me about the new course I can became an be of the trainer to help people to lose weight or get fit or gain mussels ! Positive experience: It’s suitable enough for what I want to achieve from using a gym. Lots of positives - main one being the price. Great value for money. It’s never too busy at the time I go. The app which clocks sessions is great and helps motivation. Enough equipment and space to always get a good workout. Areas for improvement - a sled and ropes would be great additions. Having a barbell upstairs and DBs up to 20kg so they can be incorporated in with a KB workout. These are just conveniences for me and understand this may not be feasible. A lot of the areas have heavy amounts of dust - particularly platform area. Could do with a deep clean. But it doesn’t bother me too much. I’m more than happy with my membership there and competent in using the gym. I think as a whole, beginners could be better supported. There’s a lot of staff with their clients and giving them their full attention (which is how it should be). However, I think many members get missed and may not continue their fitness journey as they don’t get the required attention they need. All in all, very happy with what is received for the price.
