Our comment from FitFit UK about The Beach Hotel:

The Beach Hotel, located in the heart of Minehead, offers a prime location right on the seafront, making it an ideal spot for those looking to explore the beach and local attractions.

Guests have praised the friendly and helpful staff, many of whom come from the nearby YMCA, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The rooms are noted for being clean, spacious, and comfortable, with stunning views of the sea.

The hotel's restaurant serves a fantastic breakfast with a variety of options, and many have raved about the quality of the food served throughout the day. From well-prepared meals to tasty treats like the 'famous beach fish pie', the dining experience generally earns positive reviews.

However, some guests have reported issues with parking availability and occasionally slow service during busy hours, as well as a few inconsistent experiences with certain menu items. Additionally, traffic noise can be a concern for light sleepers.

Overall, The Beach Hotel stands out for its charming location, excellent breakfast, and commitment to service, making it a highly recommended choice for visitors to Minehead.

The Beach Hotel: Opinions

Fantastic experience: This hotel couldn’t be in a better location, it’s right outside the station, on the seafront and a short walk into the centre. Only problem is the parking, there is a handful of free spaces to the side of the hotel which get filled up quick. You can either park in the pay and display at the station or you can park on a residential road for free a couple streets away from the hotel. The hotel partners with the YMCA which is next to the hotel so the people that work in the hotel are from the YMCA which is brilliant and all the staff were great. The room was spacious and clean and the whole hotel was clean and well decorated. We didn’t have an evening meal here but we had breakfast. There is plenty of choice for breakfast and it was cooked well. I would happily stay here again.

Positive experience: I arranged a meet up with an old friend and put families on Sunday 9th November. We all fancied something more than fish & chips and decided to try here. Everything was accessible (superb as at least four of us had requirements). There were nine of us including children and they were just cooking for a table of twelve, the head chef was off/out and an apprentice chef was in the kitchen. We were seated on a lovely table by the waiting team and we were quite happy to have some drinks and wait. The food was fantastic! Really well prepared, beautiful tasting and good portions of quality food, for a very reasonable price. I'll definitely be going back and recommending this place. The young lady apprentice chef did really well! (The female waiting team seemed happier and more efficient than their male counterparts.) For the venues benefit. ***We accidentally seemed to have ordered an extra meal or ended up with one on the bill, it came out a good fifteen to twenty minutes after everything else and when we told the male server that there must be a mix up, (older and balding gent, for ID purposes) he shrugged and said "Well, you've got it now!?” in quite a condescending tone... Not very professional at all and being a former hospitality management/owner, I would have given a little courtesy of at least looking into it. Especially as the order was originally hand written. Not to mention the fact that we spent £200 for lunch. I do see that he is mentioned in quite a few other reviews too. Such a shame when some people don't live up the the name of "Hospitality".

Fantastic experience: Can't fault the food, stay or service. But not easy to sleep with the main road traffic. If your a light sleeper take this into account.

Fantastic experience: All round great hotel, clean rooms, great food, dog friendly. I'd definitely stay again Ideally located over the road from the beach. Staff are friendly and can't do enough for you.

Fantastic experience: I visited the restaurant at The Beach Hotel with my son over the weekend. He has some severe allergies and rarely gets to eat away from home. The staff were absolutely wonderful and ensured he was safe and happy the whole time. The chef prepared him a meal separately to ensure it was safe. Both the lovely woman who served us and the chef came over to ensure we were doing ok and he was happy. It made his day. Thank you. This was the weekend of the 20th July, the woman with the roman army tattoo and the chef with a marvellous moustache are absolute heroes.

Fantastic experience: This hotel is the quintessential country hotel. Friendly. Rooms are good. Comes with what you need. There's a bar and a restaurant that does a great breakfast. It was about noisy outside until about 10.30pm. In summer you'll need the window open. My room had a great bay view.

Negative experience: Just had a very bad experience. Ordered drinks (waitress acted very surprised when we asked for a diet lemonade - shook her head like we were mad). Then ordered food and was told it would take a while, but when we asked how long told 20 mins. This was fine, and quite reasonable. We then watched several tables who had ordered after us get served. After 40 mins I asked a waiter (he had a bald head and spoke broken English, for the venue's benefit) how much longer we should wait and he threw his hands in the air and said "I don't know"... I pointed out we'd been waiting a long time and he went off to the kitchen to "check". He came back and said "3 minutes", after over 5 mins and seeing another table that ordered 20 mins after us get served I spoke to the waitress, who took our order, at the bar. They were shocked and when they checked they said our order had been given to someone else ages ago. So the bald headed waiter had clearly lied. I told him he had a poor attitude and he came round from behind bar and I had to keep an eye on him as he looked livid and the waitress told him to "leave it". I offered to pay for the drinks and they accepted! The waitress did apologise, but such a poor service. It's not cheap there, so whether this is a community venue or not there's no excuse.

Positive experience: Only ate food, was brilliant!

Negative experience: The Café was superb, excellent coffee and cakes. I’ve marked it down as there was only one staff member to take the orders, take payments , wait on tables, and make all the coffees and look after cafe guests. This seems an unreasonable responsibility to place on one person and resulted in long wait times as the poor server was rushed off her feet. She nevertheless took care over each order, our coffee was excellent, but please get more staff!

Positive experience: Great little overnight stay right in the centre and on the seafront in Minehead. Restaurant was not open in the evenings, but options available in town just a few minutes walk from the hotel - and breakfast was very good. Spacious room and very friendly and good service. Good value - does the job well.

Positive experience: Great weekend, in a reasonably priced and homely hotel. The room was large, with a huge double bed and a wonderful view of the seafront. We had breakfast on two mornings, one full English and one bacon roll. The food is outstanding, with great cooking, ingredients, and attention to detail.

Fantastic experience: Great food . Amazing service. I did not stay in the hotel ,just ate in the restaurant.

Andy Shepherd 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: The hotel is in a great location with fantastic views from our room. The staff were excellent, so friendly and helpful - we couldn't have asked for more. The highlight of the stay was the breakfasts - the vegetarian option (the garden breakfast) was outstanding. None of the plastic imitation bacon or sage and onion stuffing sausages - no. It was crushed avocado (well seasoned and with a hint of chilli) on toast, with roasted peppers, grilled halloumi, roast tomatoes and mushrooms and a perfectly poached egg. The full 'English' was even better (for me ;-) ). Whilst the room was a little 'tired', it is after all an old building, it was huge, with a comfy sofa, nice furnishings and a comfy king sized bed. A proper cafetiere and real coffee, along with fresh milk in a little milk bottle. So in summary, although not the most stylish of hotels, the price was reasonable, it was very comfortable, the staff were excellent and the food outstanding. We loved it and will definitely be back. We also loved the fact that this is a social enterprise hotel, giving opportunities for young people to learn and earn. PS, there's even a decent gym, if you're so minded, to help work off the breakfast!

Ross Ford 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Food and service was excellent. But staff need to be a bit more up on allergies

Fantastic experience: I visited here today (25/11/23) with a friend for lunch, and thought the restaurant/pub was welcoming and cosy. The staff were friendly and immediately let us know that the kitchen is an apprentice kitchen, and so food may take a little while, up to 30 minutes - this was reiterated to us 3 different times, and each time the staff member checked we were happy with this. The drinks we ordered arrived quickly, and the food wasn’t far behind. Overall the food was tasty and big portions, which is always welcome - and fairly priced in my opinion! I would definitely recommend the venue for a lunch, the menu has plenty of options. I can’t comment on rooms in the hotel, as I didn’t use one. What I would like to comment on is an incident with another customer that has shocked me, and I must stress not because of the way the staff responded - how they dealt with it was perfect. But on the off chance that the vile excuse of a man or any of his party are reading this with the intention of making their own review, read on. The man in question was sat at a table with 6 other of his party, they all received their food and had clearly gone through a few drinks as empty glasses littered the table. They accepted their food happily enough, no grumbles could be heard. However about 10 mins into their meal, when most of this party had scarfed down their food I might add, big man decided he had an issue with how long they’d waited for their food, and preceded to shout and bellow at the kitchen staff and waiting staff about his annoyance at this. Apparently they’d booked a table for 12.30 and had been seated promptly, but had waited quite some time for their food. Presumably they had been given the same warning about food taking a while as my table had, but evidently decided they weren’t happy with this. What ensued during this outburst is nothing short of embarrassing for this individual. He continued to shout and scream at the staff, refusing to accept apology or restrain himself. He leapt out of his seat, swearing and shouting and refusing to pay for his meal. His family/the rest of his party followed suit, and grabbed their jackets at all walked out. How shameful. If you are reading this, you should be utterly ashamed and embarrassed about how you conducted yourself today. I have no doubt you are a bully and a narcissist at home and I pity your family and friends that have to deal with you, if that’s how you treat complete strangers. What a pathetic way to act. Being unhappy about slow service and having a bit of a grumble is one thing, but to launch into a completely unprovoked tirade of verbal abuse and shouting is frankly unhinged. Well done to the staff who dealt with it and moved on with their day, it’s unacceptable that you should have to put up with such abuse in your place of work.

Positive experience: We stayed here a week ago and it is the ideal location for a short stay in Minehead. The hotel is right on the seafront and our room had a great view of this. The room is basic but functional and comes with amenities such as a hair-dryer and towels. Service was quite slow but very friendly. Breakfast is included with every room and we both ordered the full English breakfast and it was lovely! Definitely would recommend. You can eat between 8-10am.

Negative experience: The last two times my partner and I have tried to eat here we've left without ordering. On the first occasion we were told that our order would be taken "when I have time". We left immediately! Second occasion (always give someone a second chance) it was order at the bar. Has to be better right? Wrong! Waited while one poor girl dealt with two groups in front of me while two other members of staff stood around watching and did nothing to help. I gave up after 10 minutes. The front of house service here is atrocious.

Negative experience: On a day trip on the Waverley, (a great day out btw), I stopped off at The Beach Café, part of the Beach Hotel, Minehead for lunch with two friends, as the menu looked inviting. Our drinks and food order were taken. As the barrel needed changing for the beer my friend ordered, there was a bit of a wait - understandable. When that arrived, the staff member noticed that I still hadn't had the soda water I ordered 10 minutes prior. She brought over a small bottle of sparkling water. When I said that I had ordered soda water, she said, "we haven't got any, and it's the same thing anyway." She seemed uninterested when I said that sparkling water and soda water are not the same. FYI, soda water has bicarbonate of soda added so that the fizz lasts longer than sparkling water. Needless to say, the bottle of sparkling water went as flat as tap water within minutes. Never mind, ay. At least the food would be along shortly. Two hits: the moules and the fish and chips. Hot and delicious. One dreadful miss; the £14.25 "Famous Beach Fish Pie. Cod, Salmon & Prawns. Puff pastry and the Koffman Chip. " Don't worry, there's more than one chip. I'm assuming that Koffman is referring to Pierre Koffman and his method of cooking chips. The chips were particularly good. However, what arrived with them was so dreadful that I couldn't eat it. The cod - if it was cod - was grey in colour, in very small pieces, and so overcooked it was hard and chewy. The prawns were nowhere to be found. The 4 small cubes of salmon were no better. The puff pastry "looks like a pillow on top," the staff member described. What it was hiding was a thin butter and cream sauce with onions and peas. It's more of a fish soup and not a good one. It tasted no better than the grey "cod." As no one came to check if the food was ok, my friends ate their food and I ate the chips, leaving the grey overcooked cod no prawns and 3 of the salmon cubes together with the "pillow" and thin butter cream onion peas sauce behind. After a complaint about my food, when we went to pay, my meal was not charged for. Update: at 2.30 am the next day, I woke with stomach cramps and nausea. Probably not as a result of the chips that came with the "fish pie" or my microwaved ready meal I ate that evening at 9.30pm.

Positive experience: Great location! Close to the strand at the beach, West Somerset Railway, and the main shopping district. Rooms are small, old, and dirty. In the three nights we spent here there was never any room cleaning or services, the shower water alternated between hot and cold, you have to order your breakfast the night before, and breakfast tables are preassigned by room. All subpar by American standards.

Stella Jales 2 years ago

Positive experience: The hotel employs YMCA people to give them experience in the hotel trade. Rooms and hotel were clean. Cereals and a cooked breakfast are included everyday. The hotel is in a good position on the sea front and next to the station.

Fantastic experience: Had 3 nights and obtained a very good rate per night. Double room was clean and spacious. Complimentary items were more than most hotels offer including liquid soap and moisturizer in the bathroom. Lashings of hot water for bath or shower. The breakfast, although not a fan of pre ordering was exceptional. The rooms could really do with blackout curtains or blinds. It's not a fully modernised, bland chain hotel that's ultra sleek but we enjoyed our 3 nights there and would return.

Positive experience: Hubby and I stopped for a Sunday dinner, after reading, it says it is the best. It was nice but not the best ever unfortunately, the beef was fatty and chewy, the cauliflower cheese had too much mustard and the roast potatoes had big chunks of peppercorns on them. The service was lovely and the staff were very helpful.

Positive experience: Only stopped for food. Its a bit dated and feels a bit like your in some kind of old shop with all the double fire doors, but it's clean. Service was good. Menu (we went luch time) is what you'd expect in a tourist area catering to families. Had the pulled pork brioche bun and it was stunning! Should have ordered 2! Reasonably priced and right next to the vintage rail Centre.

Positive experience: Nice little hotel, ideally located, great views of the harbour, reasonably priced. The hotel was clean but not (CLEAN) dirt in the bath tub and skirting boards dusty, main room was fresh, bed exceptionally comfortable, Bathroom was very dated (60s/70s) small bath, Hot water was plentiful shower feed from taps (not electric) fairly powerful flow. Windows were old style sash Windows, single glazed, could hear plenty of traffic throughout the night and early morning (front of Building. Breakfast-this is pre order the night before and have to say possibly one of the best hotel full Englishes I have had, it was absolutely delicious. Nice little touch on arrival ice bucket with a bottle of water & fresh milk. Would stay here again just based on the Breakfast but opt for a room to the rear.

The food looked lovely and a bit pricey I ordered flat bread with vegan foods and took some of the bits I cannot eat off. Hoping to get hummus and flatbread with peppers but it came filled with tomatoes mushrooms and balsamic all of which wasn't on the menu. I wasn't consulted with the changes or given a reduction to my price. As also unable to eat them ingredients. Not the best for anyone who has food allergies.

Fantastic experience: Well worth a visit to the hotel cafe for brunch / lunch or just a coffee. Service was very quick and friendly & the food was great. You can sit in the main dining area or at the front of the building with large glass windows and people watch. Vegan & vegetarian options & gluten free bread available. Very dog friendly with dog biscuits for four-legged visitors. A small amount of parking is available next to the building, but there is also a public carpark a minute's walk away. It's an apprentice-run social enterprise, so you are supporting a really worthwhile business with your visit. The Tourist Information Office and local Museum adjoin the hotel & are also worth a visit.

Positive experience: I stayed here for a night and the service was nice, the people amazing and the view from the room stunning . The room was a bit small and the bathroom not very clean (the tube had some hair from previous people who had a bath there) The food in the breakfast was delicious and the personal really amazing. However perhaps would be nice to improve the calamari recipe because the tempura is not very good and was quite oily and too much lime in mine (there was lots of lime everywhere). However I do recommend the place because the good things are really good and you'll have a nice experience.

Negative experience: Firstly, where do I start? The cheesy chips were £8.50 and absolutely revolting. The “cheese” was drowning the chips titanic-style and was a sauce? I was expecting grated cheese on some chips but received a gargantuan quantity of cheese sauce. To extend, the “cheese” sauce tasted diabolical. It was a blend of fish and sm*gma and upset my internal organs at first whiff. The sauce must have been a quick and lazy choice which was supposed to be clever by the chefs but it was definitely leftover disgusting fish pie. No one wants to go to the beach and order cheesy chips and the cheese tastes like sp*nk. Do better Beach Hotel because I will never be coming back. Emphasis on come just like your disgusting cheese sauce. Thanks.

Fantastic experience: Dropped in for a coffee as people have said that the food & drinks are good there. To our surprise it was dog friendly so we were able to sit inside. The drinks were nice. The staff were lovely. Service was good.

Positive experience: Popped in after a long, seemingly endless bus journey from Taunton, on a rainy and miserable day The mocha was nice AND hot, and the service, for once, fast. But as always, good Not many people around, which is my preference. I know that having dogs in bars, restaurants, etc is almost de rigeur nowadays, but not for those of us who have allergic reactions, particularly when you have asthma as well..... Back on my "visit again" list.

Fantastic experience: The staff were polite friendly and professional. As a family it can be tricky finding somewhere with good food atmosphere and family(incl dog) friendly. Nothing was too much bother for them. The food was simply fantastic and it's fantastic that they support the apprentices and give them fantastic hands on experience
