PureGym Caerphilly

Negative experience: Such a shame to score 1 star for such a well stocked gym. Every time I visit the Caerphilly gym, there’s a class in the studio so I can’t do my own workouts (I’m not comfortable doing these on the downstairs open area). Also can’t ignore the downstairs workout class that blares music so loud I can’t hear my own. For future sessions, I’ll be visiting Llantrisant or one of the Cardiff ones

Fantastic experience: PureGym in Caerphilly is a great place to train helpful and friendly staff clean environment all the equipment that you need highly recommend

Negative experience: The gym is nice however despite there being several free weights bench press stations there is no facility to train on them alone safely as there are no safety bars available. I contacted the gym and suggested they install some safety bars to the front outside of the power racks as they have in other pure gyms facilities but they have said they will not at this time. I find this deplorably reckless particularly as the gyms 24/7 approach enables and encourages training alone. The bench press can and does regularly cause serious injury and there has even been examples of loss of life with the weight crushing and/or suffocating the victim. Please if you do use this gym do not bench press alone the consequences are not worth the risk or use a gym with a better approach to safety. Quest Gym near-by on the same estate and Team Rees Gym in Trecenydd do have this safety available for training alone.

Negative experience: I'd have expected more equipment, and the place is often quite busy. When it originally opened it was much cheaper, but then they jacked the price so it's even more expensive than Cardiff. Many people have also had a lot of carpark fines, so far I haven't. Decided to leave this gym, there are better ones for the money.

Positive experience: Great gym with everything you need. They’ve utilised the space really well and have packed in as much equipment as they can. It’s always very clean and the dumbbells are always in order, which is nice! The staff are all very friendly. However the PTs when they’re training themselves have a bit of a habit of ‘reserving’ equipment. They put all their stuff down on one of the platforms then go and warm up somewhere else for 15 minutes. Also all the people doing Olympic lifting is pretty annoying. It’s a Puregym, not the strength asylum, if you want to do that stuff, go join a gym that’s catered for it. People dropping 100kg barbells from above their head only bends the bars, knackers the bearings in them, ruins the floor, and makes incredibly loud banging that just annoys everyone.

Negative experience: I have received 2 parking tickets from Parking eye costing £170 with threatening letter for collection from Bailiffs it not paid in full the parking clearly states 00hrs to 00hrs but there is no way to appeal tried to contact Caerphilly gwm but no number available totally unbelievable Very expensive Gym stay !!!!!!!!!

Positive experience: Nice gym, however appears cheaper on the surface than other gyms but if you do classes and pay for yoga, zumba it soon adds up over the month!

Fantastic experience: My local convenient gym. Staff are wonderful and helpful. The whole are is cleaned and maintained very well. Only thing I would highly recommend to be looked into is a cleaning facility station we could use wipe down our equipment afterwards!

Positive experience: A very good gym for all abilities. All the equipment is brand new which is always great. Staff are lovely. Only criticisms would be the air con is non existent and there is no paper towels and wiping down stations. Other than that, for the price you can’t really go wrong.

Fantastic experience: Puregym Caerphilly...where do I start...joining in November was one of the most scary things for myself but as soon as I stepped foot in the gym, I felt comfortable. The people who work there are so friendly and make you feel at ease. All classes are brilliant but there's one for me that stands out the most and that's STEP...its my ultimate favourite...from learning different moves to the instructor Lucia...she is the best! She pushes you to keep going and her enthusiasm shines through her personality! I've also started having PTs with her which I am also thoroughly enjoying. Thanks Puregym Caerphilly, especially Lucia for helping me gain confidence in using a gym again!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, cheap friendly easily accessible and plenty of equipment. Things that could be improved: 1. Extra bikes as they only have two 2. Better water fountains, water comes out slow and not very cold and it's not filtered I believe.

Negative experience: So today I received a parking fine from Gallagher retail park parking eye for parking on site. The terms state the allowed time is 00hrs 00minutes!!!! A 53minute stay has now cost me £60 simply for parking to use the gym!!!! Surely this needs to be addressed by PureGym as it's an absolutely shocking outcome for a customer

Fantastic experience: Really happy having signed up to this gym; the range of equipment is great & there are always plenty of machines available. The staff are friendly & helpful & unless you go during the unstaffed hours there are always plenty of trainers around. The other gym goers are friendly, everyone seems to keep themselves to themselves. As a bigger person trying to improve my fitness I have never felt judged or looked down on at all. It’s a safe & pleasant space to work on yourself in. Always spotlessly clean & the changing areas are large, clean, well equipped with showers, hairdryers, large lockers & a separate changing room. The 24/7 access is excellent for people with busy schedules & the live figures in the app really help to plan your visit. The only thing I would improve on which is just a personal issue is it would be nice to have a station near the equipment to wipe down after use. But that’s minor & most people bring their own towels. Great monthly price for the access provided & the equipment available.

Positive experience: Great gym, but need to sort out female cleaners just walking in the male changing rooms when you are showering or changing, this is just not right.

Fantastic experience: I love this place. It's inclusive, friendly and non judgemental. The PT's are fabulous young people, highly motivated, helpful and know their stuff. I'm not a gym person, but I love the classes especially LBT/Bodytone with Lewis, Step/Burn it with Lucia and Combat with Steve. Lots of other classes with other great PT's, which suit all ages and abilities. All of the PT's are so encouraging and reassuring and help you reach your full potential by looking for progression rather than perfection. I definitely recommend Puregym Caerphilly. Thank you for helping me increase my fitness and to go down a dress size.

Positive experience: Kept clean, decent price for membership and the staff are helpful. The classes look cool and the gym is segmented pretty well and well designed. Locker rooms are spacious and nice. The app is very helpful to get you started with the machines and book classes, and also it's very useful to see how many people are currently in the gym to plan accordingly. I like that it's open 24hrs, and it feels safe. The lat pulldown machine upstairs is always broken which can be annoying and the prices for one offs are ridiculous. Easy access to the gym and there are lockers dotted around the gym for those who just want to keep their stuff conveniently close to the door. Most machines have guides on them so any experience level can confidently work out and there are workout guides on the app. Overall I'm so glad a PureGym has finally come to Caerphilly.

Negative experience: The equipment is very good and there is plenty of choice there, however the air con is non-existent/doesn’t work. I thought they just didn’t switch it on because it wasn’t warm enough outside when it first opened but I’ve never seen it on. It’s borderline uncomfortable to work out in and even the council gym I used to use had proper air con. There is no cleaning stations to wipe the kit down before/after use either.

Fantastic experience: Great gym! Amazing staff and PTs, No judging/shaming. Gym and surrounding areas are spotless. 6 of us all go and think that PureGym is the best gym in the area

Positive experience: bit small, and the cleaners always neglect to clean the showers

Positive experience: Nice gym. But where are the paper towels and spray to clean kit after use. Benches covered in other peoples sweat isn’t appealing. Cool, apart from that though.

Negative experience: Decent size but can feel over busy at peak times. Also the air conditioning never seems to be on which, pop an extra pound on the price and keep your customers cool!

Fantastic experience: My daughters were asked by a passer-by to see if her daughter was still inside. They knew the girl so one of my daughters used her pin and they went in. A few days later, my daughter (whose pin was used) , had her account suspended. She was a bit miffed at the time, but I've nothing against the gym for it. In fact, it's reassuring to know their cctv is actually active and being monitored! I've just posted really, to make others aware that there are cameras being watched on site for safety :-)

Positive experience: Great new gym, very clean and has alot of variety of machines and free weights. Staff are friendly and helpful if you need them. My go to gym

Positive experience: a decent gym. Tends to get very busy late afternoon early evening. Mornings are much quieter. Staff very good

Positive experience: The gym is quite nice for the price, the membership deal at the moment is quite a great deal. The staff seem decently friendly and their kit is in good order. I find there is a limited quantity of certain pieces of gym kit + the bathrooms are a bit small and limited.

Fantastic experience: Loved it amazing place highly recommend and...is 24 hours! Good locker space, nice showers. Equipment is great and easy to use. What more can I say! Give it a try!
