One Spa: Opinions
Positive experience: Some of the reviews on here had us worried but I’m pleased to say they’re being unnecessarily picky! This was a nice experience - great outdoor hydro pool and some interesting rooms in the thermal suite, although the hammam didn’t seem to be working. It feels well looked after contrary to some of the reviews, though it is quite old and I’m sure not as state of the art as some places. Felt like a treat though still a bit expensive for what it is.
Fantastic experience: Excellent taste, fresh aea food . Friendly climate .
Fantastic experience: Best spa in edinburgh, arguably the best in Scotland. Only downside is that it is sometimes quite busy.
Negative experience: A 3 star at best. Though still charges 5 star prices. signage on how to enter Spa and navigate your way very poor. Constantly asking staff/visitor ‘how do I get to ..’ etc etc Practically had to beg for a dressing gown - in any other spa I have attended it is a given that you have slippers, towel and gown as part of the use of the facilities ♀️. Showers were cold - ran water for at least 5 minutes to no avail - still stone cold. Swimsuit wringing machine was broken. On a positive here was a poly bag to put my soaking wet cossie in! In dressing area there was a definite controlled attempt to try and find an mirror Station with good lighting. Went to spa cafe at 4pm to be told it was now shut. If you want any refreshments between the hours of 4pm-10pm then you must go across the courtyard to the main hotel building. As I said previously, this is fine if you are paying 3 star prices. But completely unacceptable for £90 per person!! No view whatsoever from rooftop spa. I could accept this whole pitiful experience of I had paid £35-£40 per person. But £90 each is absolutely inexcusable! I shall never be back and will echo this to anybody who asks for my opinion!
Negative experience: My husband and I booked two massages today. The staff at the front desk is snooty and the spa is tired and needs a refresh. My husband's massage was good, mine was subpar. Not worth £370 we paid.
Negative experience: A shadow of its former self – avoid at all costs. I have been a member of OneSpa for many years, even back to when it first opened, and today I finally left for good. What was once an exclusive, upmarket sanctuary for members seeking relaxation has completely deteriorated, and I can no longer tolerate it. Over the past year or so, the spa has gone severely downhill. Despite repeated complaints from long-standing members, management has done absolutely nothing to address the issues. As a result, almost every member I know – some of whom were with OneSpa for nearly 20 years – have left, many choosing to go to far superior establishments like Gleneagles or the Balmoral. The clientele now is what has truly ruined the place, turning what was once a peaceful retreat into a noisy, unpleasant experience. The atmosphere at OneSpa now resembles a cheap leisure centre rather than a high-end members' club. The noise is horrendous, with large groups of guests, particularly groups of girls, screaming, shouting, and generally showing a complete lack of respect for the spa environment. This is especially bad in the sauna – a quiet area in theory – but not in practice. The constant barrage of noise completely destroys any chance of relaxation. What’s worse, many guests blatantly ignore basic hygiene standards, emerging from the sauna drenched in sweat and heading straight into the jacuzzi without showering. It is absolutely vile, and the staff seem either unwilling or unable to enforce even the most basic rules of cleanliness. To make matters worse, the spa is now full of people taking selfies and videos, even in the jacuzzi, which is supposed to be a space for unwinding, not social media stunts. The decline of OneSpa is truly heartbreaking. It used to be a haven where members respected one another and valued the space. Now, it feels like a free-for-all for hotel guests who couldn't care less about the rules, the atmosphere, or the experience of others. Management has had ample opportunity to fix these issues and return the spa to its former glory, but instead, they've ignored the concerns of loyal members. I handed back my wristband today, and frankly, it was a relief to finally free myself from the mess that OneSpa has become. Save yourself the disappointment – OneSpa is a disaster now, and you're far better off taking your membership elsewhere.
Positive experience: I attended for a Refresh Treatment and was paired with Fernanda. Fernando was perfect. She explained everything very well and despite English not being her 1st language, she spoke perfectly. She was courteous and mannerly and I felt completely at ease with her. She is obviously very experienced in what she does and is very professional. Fernando is a credit to One Spa and if I ever have the chance to go back, I would ask for her specifically. I felt amazing after my Refresh Treatment.
Fantastic experience: Full relax ,I did very nice times here
Positive experience: Really enjoyed our escape at one spa experience. Several different saunas and the rooftop hot pool was amazing!
Fantastic experience: One of the best Spas I have visited The rooftop outside hot pool is unbelievable Very well kept with lots of different rooms in the thermal suite Swiming Poo is very nice aswell Could do with a member of staff in the area to help you decipher what they all do
Fantastic experience: A bit pricey but totally worth the relaxing experience. Rooftop hot tub is a must!
Positive experience: Great during a week day evening when it’s not busy otherwise I could see why it wouldn’t be as nice during a busy day as the facilities are quite cramped. Some of the rooms are useless and outdated but the rooftop pool was nice. It’s definitely over priced when looking at what amenities its European counterparts are offering for the same price range but it’s the only option here.
Positive experience: Enjoyed myself. I think the facilities could do with updating. Felt a bit dated. Would still recommend.
Positive experience: My wife and I used the spa facilities yesterday. We both enjoyed using the thermal suite which has a variety of different experiences to try. The facilities are very good but I think they are beginning to look a bit tired. I may be being overly fussy and it wouldn’t put me off returning. We also had our own individual treatment sessions. I had an excellent massage from Fernanda. She really knew what she was doing and did a brilliant job of releasing a lot tension in my upper back and shoulders. If that is what you need I would highly recommend asking for her specifically. Overall very happy with our visit but felt the some of the facilities were beginning to look a bit tired in comparison to the marketing photos. However don’t let that put you off visiting.
Fantastic experience: I booked the ‘renew’ package and was seen to by Rosa. The expensive was extremely relaxing and to a very high standard, both the masseuse and the products used. Rosa had a fantastic knowledge of skin types and products and advised me on what to use in the future. I will book again next time I’m in Edinburgh.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful escape from reality in the OneSpa. The staff were polite and friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. The spa is clean and the facilities are excellent. A real treat.
Positive experience: Unfortunately the place was generally tired. No formal 'Spa' welcome. The tiles were cracked, doors were old and paint peeling, the pool was dirty and had a lot of limescale build up and the shower area had a strong egg smell. Bring your own water bottle as there is only the old steel water fountains with the nozzle and no cups available. 50 min treatment includes a 10 minute consultation. Overall, a very disappointing experience from what is advertised as 5 star. If the Spa is charging £95pp to use the facilities on top of treatment price then it is expected that the establishment funnels this money back into maintaining the spa facilities and ensuring that it is worthy of the '5 star' label. This would meet a 3 star at best. These concerns have been raised to the Spa manager.
Fantastic experience: Thoroughly enjoyed my inner beauty facial with Jemma! She took her time, adjusted her approach for my needs and skin, made sure I was all settled in, and I had a great experience. Absolutely worth a stop in while you’re traveling. Her massages and hair treatment were the extra touch.
Negative experience: Got a gift voucher so I used it to get me and a friend the Escape At One experience which included a bunch of different temp rooms like a Turkish bath. From the get go I thought it was a little stingy that the pool and sauna (escape at one) were not included if you booked a treatment (minimum 100 quid). The rooms were fine but the ambiance was generally sub par. The entrance to the spa was unpleasant, the rooms were underwhelming and effectively indistinguishable. The salt room in particular was pointless, no salt, no nothing. The 'shower' experience was extremely unpleasant and poorly explained, not suitable for anyone who has allergies or sensitivity to extreme temp changes or fragrance. The rock sauna had a sign telling you to put water on the rocks but there were no rocks. There were emergency signs next to the buttons for the heat and often interchangeable colours and poor signage across the board. The feel when you are in the spa is not calming or relaxing it is entirely too bright with little decoration. The flaps from the indoor to outdoor pool were gross, and the swan neck taps, water fountains and light fittings were rusty. You only got one towel which got wet very quickly and you had to walk quite a way to get another one. There was tepid water in the drinking fountains like in a high school and only cucumber water at the entrance. The only availbale shower near the thermal suite/escape at one rooms was closed leaving you with the 'experience' showers only. The rooftop view from the pool was pathetic and there were filthy pannels blocking the view of buildings and nothing else. The shampoo/conditioner etc were stingey on the pump, the flipflops were disgusting and uncomfortable and you did not get a robe unless you were going for a treatment despite spending 85-95 a head for escape at one. The skincare was strategically placed at the exit so that you could not benefit from using the products as you will have already reapplied your own skincare or makeup in the changing rooms, you had to bring your own as it was stingey on the amenities. The swimsuit dryer barely worked and the staff had to help us. Someone from maintenance came into the quiet relaxation room 5 times in the space of 10 minutes. The staff were lovely and very helpful I could not fault them. I would not pay money to go to one spa again, I have been to quite a few spas and this one was by far the worst and most expensive.
Fantastic experience: I had a great inner relax calm treatment from Elizabeth today. She was amazing and I'm looking forward to my next treatment in a couple of week.
Negative experience: Probably the most expensive and least enjoyable massage treatment I've ever tried. The treatment was supposed to be 1h and 20 m, but only lasted 1 h and 10 m. I told the therapist that I had tension in my lower back but she didn't massage this area at all. Rather, she spent the first 40 min gently applying oil and moisturizer and then spent 30 min on a "scalp massage" that was closer to hair pulling than actual massage. Not exactly painful but also not relaxing. And the worst thing is that my scalp became incredibly itchy after the treatment. Not sure what she had applied to it, but it was so uncomfortable and didn't stop until I washed my hair later. The therapist was friendly but kept telling me to book a longer treatment which was slightly off-putting. Needless to say, I'm not exactly enticed to do that.
Negative experience: We've enjoyed previous visits here but found that robes are now only for paying guests... we paid for the spa! You've made a two tier system now and the whole wearing a robe thing is part of the pampering you expect from a spa. Instead we have carry around extra towels like peasants and struggle to arrange them on the heated areas. Rethink this decision. To claim it is for sustainability is mad when every other person there had a robe!
Positive experience: Personal lockers are broken and constantly need staff to open, Men's changing room floor never gets cleaned, fibrous dirty floor, not great on your feet to walk into unclean floor that would two mins to mop-up every other hour if that. Reception staff are good.
Fantastic experience: I was so tired from the jet lagged and I have a great massage by the therapist Louise at One Spa! Her techniques was great and she really make me rejuvenated and my muscle relaxed! Highly recommended !
Fantastic experience: Gorgeous spa in a really unique location with lots of nice rooms and lovely little details, the steam room is probably a little too hot (so watch out for that!), but really nice to relax while out and about in Edinburgh.
Negative experience: Not worth it for the price. Was dirty and overcrowded. There was also someone vaping in the swimming pool. The pink salt room steam was also not working.
Negative experience: Very basic for the price (as a hotel resident, I had the discounted rate...paying the full rate would have been ridiculous). Saunas are great, jacuzzi and relaxation rooms are good, but the other experience rooms are poor. But the biggest problem, as others have said, is the smell in the thermal spa area; sweaty feet at best, grim toilet smells at worst. As a regular spa goer, the overall sensory experience is everything and this needs some attention to make it deserving of the price.
Negative experience: For the price that I paid, I expected more than there was to offer. It was cramped, 2 of the "experience" rooms were not working and the rock salt cave was a complete disappointment (which was said by many others when I was there). Our time slot was for 3hours and we left within 1.5hours.
Positive experience: Disappointing for the price. Very busy on a Saturday and not as clean/refreshing as I had expected. Many rooms full of people and didn’t smell great as you’d expect a spa would.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, feels clean. Sauna’s nice and big but glass walled onto busy hallway which isn’t very relaxing. Most of the other facilities - salt room, tepidarium, Laconium etc are a bit gimmicky and unremarkable. The outdoor pool was my favourite part but the view is a bit bleak. Felt really busy when we went, basically a queue for the steam room, hardly any room in the outdoor pool at 3pm on a Thursday. For £80 per person I’d say it wasn’t worth it, more of a £40 experience. Felt a bit let down as it was meant to be a big treat.
Fantastic experience: Went into one spa cafe today for lunch and received excellent and friendly service from Mateja.
Negative experience: Went there wanting to book a big appointments for me and my partner and they even didn’t say hi or spoke to me . There were 2 girls in reception and they looked panicky but customer service belongs to 0 ! Feel quite disappointed.
Fantastic experience: One Spa by Sheraton hotel is the best spa facilities in Edinburgh, with an outside pool jacuzzi and around 10 different sauna rooms, suit definitely every relaxing desire. Easy access and located just in front of the castle it makes a popular choice to escape the infamous winter season of Scotland, even just for one day.
Fantastic experience: Relaxation at its best. The roof top infinity pool is dreamy
Fantastic experience: Great environment, good service and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Fa-bu-lous. Best spa I've ever been to! You do pay for it though!
Fantastic experience: Just one word. SUPERB. Four family members had massages here as part of a Holiday celebration. Each of us felt very at ease and were well looked after by the very professional staff. Thank you One Spa & Staff!
Fantastic experience: This place is amazing ! The enternal warm pool/ Jacuzzi was so relaxing and fun . All the facilities were clean and beautiful and I felt rejuvenated after the visit , so mission accomplished!
Fantastic experience: Bit expensive for 3 hours but it is amazing
Fantastic experience: What a lovely morning spent soaking, steaming and lounging my cares away. Bliss.
Fantastic experience: Great quiet area to relax and rejuvenate
Fantastic experience: Very good
Fantastic experience: I had the most relaxing massage and facial with Emma today. Emma was so brilliant- taking the time to get to know my skin goals and tailoring the experience to ensure that I left feeling calm, relaxed and re-energised. Highly recommend! Thanks so much
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely stay at westerwood in Cumbernauld, the spa treatment couldn’t fault it 5ish off bliss hotel was lovely and so was the food defo go back
Fantastic experience: Absolute phenomenal day with friends! We started with having lunch and bubbles in the hotel. The food and service was fantastic! We then went to One spa for a treatment. Vanessa was my therapist and she was brilliant, took all my preferences on board, got rid of all the knots in my back and had great chat which made things a lot less awkward. If you ever get a treatment there I would definitely recommend her. We then moved upstairs to the thermal pool, sauna and steam rooms. The whole experience was extremely relaxing which was needed after a hard week at work. The only thing a little off putting was the number of people on their phones in the sauna but nothing can really be done about this.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience and really friendly staff. Had a wonderful time in the many different saunas and steam rooms. Very clean facilities. One thing I will say is I think it's really quite horrendous to make reception staff stand all day in a place that's meant to be promoting health. It's not 1952 anymore and standing all day is bad for joints and causes lower back tension and potential spinal and postural issues. It makes literally no difference to the experience for the customer.
Fantastic experience: Perfect!
Positive experience: A few of the sauna rooms were very very low temperature so they didn't really offer anything. The ice machine was also broken. The rest of the spa was good though.
Fantastic experience: This spa is amazing. It has many different rooms with therapies and an amazing indoor/outdoor hot tub
Fantastic experience: My favourite spa! It has a variety of rooms: saunas/luminarium/hammam/steam room and my new favourite, the rock salt room, song with tropical showers and the outdoor hydropool. Treatments are always fantastic here too. Showers use ESPA shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and changing facilities have hair dryers, straighteners and curling tongs.
Fantastic experience: Amazing spa treatments...so relaxing and professional from start to finish!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant spa, enjoyed 3 hours in all the pools and sauna rooms. Super clean and worth it for the outside pool alone.
Fantastic experience: Visited a few times and not been disappointed. This time, we went for a spa package and it is excellent value for money. Myself and wife came here as part of our honeymoon. We both had an excellent and relaxing time.
Fantastic experience: One of the nicest spas we have visited. There are a lot of facilities to use in the spa to relax, from various saunas, steam rooms, experience showers and a wonderful rooftop hydrapool. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: Staff very friendly facilities were awesome however if it wasn't for the outside hydropool I would say it's abit over priced
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed our time at One Spa, the staff were so helpful.
Negative experience: Do not email this place for a massage: They said they had space for me and my pregnant wife after back and forth emails over afew days then rudely rang me and then hung up after they told me they have no space because we didn’t book online plus they knew we were only in Edinburgh afew short days.
Fantastic experience: Great way to spend afternoon! During our visit place wasn't crowded, and we were able to experience each sauna by ourselves. Even though it was raining on the day we could use outside pool.
Fantastic experience: I love this spa. Customer experience is fantastic.
Fantastic experience: Been here many times and love the place. So relaxing and kept very clean. Also extremely helpful friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Positive experience: The Escape at One is a wonderful treat. Some of the spas were not functioning as they should (not warm enough), but an engineer was on site and fixing it.
Fantastic experience: Staff was really friendly, everything was amazing and relaxing.
Fantastic experience: This exceeded my expectations!! Went again last week - Birthday Treat. As before, last time. Excelled again. Decadent luxury.
Fantastic experience: Total bliss! Most relaxed I've ever been! Loved the outdoor hydro pool and the thermal suite. Proper luxury and not too peopley
Fantastic experience: My partner and I love coming here! The outdoor hydro pool and experience showers with different settings for water scents, temperature, and so on, are amazing
Fantastic experience: I would visit Edinburgh to come here again. The staff were very helpful and kind especially as I hadn’t been to a spa before. The thermo suite and the pools were fantastic. Thank you for a great experience!
Positive experience: Experience was great, price is a bit high
Fantastic experience: Very nice spy, with roof top thermal pool
Fantastic experience: Love it!!! Worth the money. Definitely a unique experience.
Fantastic experience: Rooftop jacuzzi always a joy, very nice thermal suite
Fantastic experience: The one spa was very comfortable and relaxing, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere which added to the overall experience of my visit. The spa offers a range of high quality products that would leave you feel refreshed. One Spa at the Sheraton hotel is a great place to visit if you're looking for a luxurious and relaxing spa experience.
Fantastic experience: Superb facilities. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Edinburgh
Fantastic experience: A great spa. Plenty of different treatment rooms and pools. The outdoor pool is a nice experience. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Left feeling very relaxed. Would definitely visit again. Reasonably priced also.
Negative experience: Refused to honour a voucher, despite many businesses including the one we work for being understanding of covid times and that some people are really struggling and also can’t afford this luxury other wise, several people clubbed together to buy it as a sentimental gift, it cost £120 - very pricey! Big money businesses can often be extremely selfish.
Fantastic experience: Lovey atmosphere and attentive staff. Great tea and scones!
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and not overcrowded at all, so plenty of opportunity to use everything. Towels, robes, slippers, toiletries and hairdryers/straighteners included, just take your swimming costume!
Fantastic experience: Most wonderful, relaxing spa experience I've had. Incredible facilities. Quite expensive but I thought it was worth it. Will visit again.
Fantastic experience: The experience was outstanding and great value for money, the masseuse Shona gave a wonderful happy ending
Fantastic experience: The most iconic spa in the city. The standout feature is undoubtedly the pool, especially the outside one which offers an incredible view of the city. It's a truly beautiful spot to relax and unwind, and it's no surprise that it's one of the most popular attractions at the spa. In addition to the pool, the spa offers a wide range of treatments that are of excellent quality. I, personally, have had great experiences with their massages which were very relaxing and rejuvenating.
Positive experience: Used to be a member here a few years back but it seems to have gone down hill since. Visited a couple of times recently with friends but don't think we'll be back. It's fine but for the money you get much better facilities elsewhere. Very disappointing that there are no cold shower options for when you come out of any of the saunas, other than the rain storm drizzle shower which isn't very refreshing at all. The ice fountain ran out during our visit so there was no way to cool down, unless you walk all the way out of the thermal suite, past the pool and down to the changing room to the showers there, but it's not practical to go all that way every time between sauna sessions, kind of defeats the purpose. The salt sauna in the thermal site was broken both of the last times we visited in the last year. Just not worth £75 a visit.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place, very clean and friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: It's a beautiful place with nice people
Fantastic experience: Have been a member at one spa for nearly 2 months with an Aqua membership and I really have no regrets joining. I invested in this membership because there weren't any options in the city that matched the facilities that they have here and I have autoimmune disorders and find it helps a lot. My general wellbeing has improved since using the facilities on a regular basis. I most often come in the morning and it really is such a great start to the day but coming at night is beautiful and a great way to to wind down. The staff are always lovely and courteous and are on hand for any query you have. Sometimes the hydropool is closed but in my experience it is open more often than not and we are at the mercy of the Scottish weather so it is understandable. I think the only improvement I would suggest is perhaps an update to showering facilities and little touches but overall I am so glad I decided to go for a membership.
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience!!!
Positive experience: Nice facility with a great central location, however the hydropool was a bit cold and two of the experience rooms were broken during our visit
Negative experience: Gift Card Cannot Be Used - Disappointing Experience. I purchased a gift card for my partner in Jan 2020. Due to the pandemic, this gift card cannot be used then. Therefore, I contacted OneSpa in 2020 for a refund. In reply, they promised me this gift card will be automatically extended and can be used at any time. Therefore, we dropped the refund request and kept the gift card. Last Saturday, we would like to book a spa with the gift car. However, the store manager Claire told us it expired last year and cannot be used. After multiple communications, no refund, no compensation, whatsoever. It is obvious they cannot keep their word. Funny enough, they also blamed their own system. I would suggest DO NOT purchase gift cards from this company if you do not want to lose your money.
Positive experience: Lovely although not as hot as I would have liked.
Negative experience: The water in jaccuzi is much colder than it used to be. There's no bin for a wet towels in the pool area and no fresh towels so you have to carry them from /to changing room. The proper shower in a spa area on construction for a over a year. Most of steam rooms are useless and not popular because there are are cold.Only the Cristal room have always people.
Positive experience: Fantastic facilities, especially the outdoor pool and various saunas. I had a massage which was okay but I’ve had better. Cafe was incredibly overpriced though, I was charged £5 for a small supermarket smoothie and only realised once I’d finished it that it was out of date..
Fantastic experience: Slightly overpriced for a day pass but a beautiful facility. Men size flip flops would be welcome by those who aren't a size 5. The dark relaxation room would be improved with an additional lounger so that 2 couples could relax there. All in all had a great time!
Fantastic experience: Very relaxing. Hydropool is great. Did get busy later on, but we had used all the facilities we wanted to.
Positive experience: Wife and I do this place every year so it must be good if we keep coming back. Only gripe is that it’s obviously priced to keep the “experience” from being too busy and they will charge you if you lose the tag, which seems rather ridiculous given the price of entry. I’m sure the tags all turn up eventually…
Fantastic experience: Couples massage experience is the best I've ever had and the thermal spa after is a dream. The thermal spa is worth going to on its own!
Fantastic experience: My daughter and I both visited this beautiful spa in Edinburgh, we both had different treatments. There is a range if treatments available. The staff are terrific and the ambience is very relaxing. I would recommend to anyone for a lovely pause in their busy lives.
Fantastic experience: Not one for spas normally but thoroughly enjoyed my couple of hours there and on a busy Friday afternoon/early too!
Positive experience: I got this as a gift and it was a lovely relaxing experience with great facilities including the thermal suite and well equipped gym. Staff were very helpful and resolved an issue very quickly for me. However, it is very expensive at £75pp for the 3 hour experience. Definitely a special occasion event and not something you can do regularly at these prices.
Fantastic experience: Impressive selection of thermal rooms. The outdoor jacuzzi offers nice sky view at night, but don't except view on the city. We will be back
Fantastic experience: A great place to unwind and recharge
Fantastic experience: Enjoy relax in spa and love it for h-pool outside.. worth go there
Fantastic experience: Wonderful experience and incredibly relaxing. Can get a bit busy at times and the hot sauna is a bit small. Steam room was incredible. Outdoor jet pool is incredibly relaxing. Look at membership or getting a treatment as day visit price is a bit expensive.
