JD Gyms Liverpool South

Positive experience: Overall the facilities are good . Machines are what you've seen before. Plenty of cables around and free weights and benches. There's a nice amount of space. Couple of bags and lots of cardio kit. It's missing a plated log press and heavier dumbells , aside from that it's got most you need really . Right , the dumbells are dumped anywhere on the racks . The clips on the cables are constantly moved . People stand 30cm in front of you as you're mid shoulder press facing the mirrors. Sadly it's not clean and there's a real funky smell in the changing rooms , this is my biggest gripe . Always bottles lying around and sometimes in the same place you saw them last . The sauna is a tight squeeze but consistent temperature. Great potential that gym though.

Negative experience: Not enough equipment for everyone. Not enough ropes and vbars for the cables also not enough dumbells all I do is walk round looking for 12kg dumbells n there's none there. Must be one set of 12kg dumbells between everyone also asked about 5times if they can get more equipment and it doesn't look like the staff are bothered

Negative experience: Full of gangs of annoying skinny teenagers and plays some terrible urban garbage that no person wants to hear. Gyms gone down a lot recently and they need to lower the amount of memberships they're allowing.

Negative experience: Some tramp stole my jumper in the women’s changing rooms, I had to cover myself with a towel all the way home. Don’t ever leave your things unattended, it wasn’t on sight for 15 minutes and then gone.

Fantastic experience: I go to the zumba classes. Absolutely brilliant you get a good work out and it's so much fun

Fantastic experience: Love the gym but there is always chewing gum left not cleaned up in the accessible shower of a night

Positive experience: Downside is to many teenagers hogging machines in selfie groups rather than use them, and members leaving plastic bottles etc in shower area. Otherwise decent cheap as chips gym.

Strangely it was fully working when management visited a week ago, it's now of again

I have been off the gym for 2 years after having 2 babies and was so nervous about starting a new gym and attending classes, but everyone was so Friendly and I loved the class. Its a Hard class but that's what you pay for! Thanks Jack!

Fantastic experience: Joined when it was icy to your their treadmills after trying the Widnes gym. The south Liverpool one is much bigger and the air conditioning is much more effective. Great range of weights and machines too.

Positive experience: This is a large, clean and well-equipped gym. The staff are friendly and helpful. The ladies changing rooms are spotless. However, people use the sauna in their underwear and even dry their sweaty gym stuff in there while they get dressed which I think is very weird and extremely unhygienic. Imagine expecting people to breathe humid air filled with the stench and microscopic bacteria from your exercise gear. Apparently in the men's, it's even worse for it and they also throw water on the leccy heater too. Come on guys, we aren't in Finland, use those well rounded heads.

Fantastic experience: One if the best JD gyms that I've been to. Very clean, very big and lots of different rooms for your choice of exercise. Changing rooms also very clean

Positive experience: I'm a regular user of JD Gyms and although it is often very busy and there can be a shortage of equipment and space. Lovely atmosphere and everyone just gets on with their own thing. Always clean and well maintained

Fantastic experience: Since resisting from X4Less the gym is a completely new fit out. All equipment is now upto date. Showers & lockers are plentiful and clean. Very spacious, & my partner visits several of the free classes which are well supervised. As a senior citizen, my only reluctant comment is that no discount is offered, unlike X4Less as most of us attend non peak times.

Fantastic experience: It was at JD SWIM, were I was took my grand daughter swimming this place is spotless and the staff were great and the baby's loved the session as did grandad if you get the chance to book your baby's in this place you shouldn't be disappointed

Negative experience: Cons: Member count: The amount of members are growing dramatically weekly. What was once a nice gym with a good flow is now turned into a gym that has more members than it can handle. From 4 till 7 PM you will wait around 10 mins for a machine. Parking Though there is plenty of parking, there is no surveillance and people park anywhere they want. I’m disabled and the disabled bays are always taken by people who don’t have a badge. People double park constantly, people constantly park at front of the entrance. Nothing is done about it. Male toilets: Needs to be cleaner, as it’s heavily used. Broken machines: Takes AGES to get a machine fixed. One machine took over 3 months to be fixed. Lack of equipment: There is not much equipment sadly. Gym etiquette: Terms and conditions state you can’t film in the gym but people do and nothing is done about it. It says you must put your weights back and people don’t and nothing is done about it. No point having terms and conditions if they’re aren’t to be followed. Pros: Spacious gym, with OK equipment. The equipment at this gym is certainly not the best I have seen at JD gyms. The cardio equipment is however really good, and clean. Staff: Very nice staff, helpful!

Fantastic experience: Good facilities and very spacious, £19.99 a month however can be upgraded to £25 a month and then you are able to use any JD Gym anywhere.

Fantastic experience: Good to experience the gym if your a newbie or a seasonal member.maybe some benches outside the changing area to sit on now the gym is 24hrs or something better to put large bags in at night.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym with plenty of facilities, including free weights, machines, spin studio and a normal studio. It’s a great atmosphere to be in, with the black and green colour scheme (unlike X4L’s awful yellow). Staff are always on hand to assist and are a pleasure to interact with. Cleaning stations and hand sanitiser are abundantly available throughout the gym. The only suggestions I could make for improvement are the repetitive songs that don’t really encourage working out. Also the layout could be improved, as there doesn’t seem to be any logic to where machines are placed, a leg machine could be placed right next to a chest machine for example. Overall though, it’s a fantastic place to be and a major improvement over the former Xercise4Less gym. Excellent job guys.

Fantastic experience: Very good spacious gym with plenty of equipment. Only downside is that it's not 24 hour like the one in Widnes.. really hope they look at doing this!

Positive experience: Update Feb 22 - aircon been in for months so that's all good. Still very good for machines, free weights etc. Back to highly recommended again now :) Update 20th July- down to 3 stars as lack of Aircon this last month or so is a killer. Been promised multiple times that Aircon is going in (why they ever though fans would be sufficient is beyond me). Way, way too hot and stuffy to have a good workout. Smaller rooms do have Aircon so are much better. Much improved from previous Xercise4less. Loads of free weights and equipment. Lots more slightly unusual machines. Cardio has plenty of machines too. Very highly specced for the money. Lots more here than belle vale (which itself is pretty good). Highly recommended!
