Fantastic experience: Joe and the team at Woolwich Weightlifting have been consistently incredible! Joe has been professional, thoughtful and targeted in his advice and coaching, and I've seen huge progress over the last two months alone. He also brings really positive energy and is a real delight to train with!
Fantastic experience: Joe and the rest of the coaching team at Woolwich Weightlifting have helped me achieve more in the last year than I even thought possible. They're friendly and supportive, and create a motivating atmosphere that is still easily accessible to newcomers of all shapes and sizes. The new Thursday night beginners/technique sessions are incredibly useful, "Super Saturdays" are great fun, and the club is hilariously well connected to public transport. What more could you want from a weightlifting club?

I would recommend Woolwich weightlifting to anyone who is looking to be part of a friendly and supportive club with amazing coaches As a beginner, the learn to lift course was so helpful. There is a great programme of sessions every week & also the new Thursday sessions that focus on technique are a great addition.

If you want to challenge yourself, meet some fabulous lifters, AND get stronger (with a focus on good technique), this is the place to be.

The class will get you strong, teach/improve your lifting technique, and you'll make friends at the same time. Joe's also great for personal training sessions focused on Oly lifting. Get down to the gym if you can.
Fantastic experience: I had a great experience training here. In just a few sessions my technique improved massively. The atmosphere was really comfortable and welcoming for newcomers and the coaches were extremely friendly and supportive which really helped with my confidence in learning. There was always plenty of parking outside as well as clean, well maintained facilities and equipment. Would highly recommend to anyone regardless of age, weight or skill!

He teaches the techniques based on you ability and through guidance, he helps you to build yourself into a stronger person giving you a sense of pride and strength. And a hunger for more. Fantastic experience: Been working with Joe to get me match fit for the Clipper endurance yacht race and learning a bit of weightlifting along the way. Seeing some great results in strength and stamina without compromising on flexibility. Joe listens to what you want to achieve, is an endless fount of Netflix recommendations, and will push you to hit - and exceed - your goals.

Fantastic experience: I trained regularly with Woolwich weightlifting before I moved away from London and loved every minute. Such encouragement from Joe and all the members just to do your best. No judgement, everyone is welcome. Great coaching too. Coach Joe really cares about his members and it shows. It’s easy to overthink every lift. Joe helped me focus on one thing at a time and gave me confidence to push myself more than I would have done without him. Totally recommend this club
Fantastic experience: I decided to do the foundation course with Joe after being recommended by so many people; with this come high expectations and Joe doesn’t disappoint. Being brand new to OWL Joe was very patient with me and broke everything down so I was able to pick up ques easier and quicker. Over the scheduled sessions Joe taught me the different types of lifts and by the end of the course I felt confident in each of them; lifting weight I never thought I would be able to. Even if OWL is not something you want to do full time, this foundation course is a great opportunity to learn good technique to add these lifts into your workouts. Plus, it’s really fun! Woolwich Weightlifting Club is easily accessible, I come in on the DLR to Woolwich Arsenal and its less than a 5 min walk from the station. Joe himself is a top guy, funny, kind and makes what can be a potentially tough hour, extremely enjoyable. Highly Recommend!
Fantastic experience: Couldn’t recommend the club more! Joe and the entire group are always pushing and cheering for the next big lifts. The atmosphere is simply next level, the equipment is top notch and Joe is such a great coach (and like somebody else said, he’s definitely the one for Netflix recommendations). My form and strength have improved massively since joining, even though Joe’s had to help me work around some injuries and niggles along the way.

Joe has coached me from a complete novice through his excellent & comprehensive Olympic Lifting foundation course through to his Weightlifting Club. He combines that unique skillset of distilling complex skills into easily comprehensible movements whilst continuing to break your own beliefs about what you can achieve. Excellent parking & extremely close proximity to central transport links (DLR & Crossrail) has meant that anybody can integrate Woolwich Weightlifting alongside the working week. Coach Joe has fostered a true community amongst the Weightlifting Club, all of whom are the first to celebrate your milestones! Highly highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: Incredible coach, club and group! I can’t recommend Joe enough as a coach - his patience, support and motivation are second to none. He has a unique way of pushing you to get the best of you while building your strength week by week. The Weightlifting Foundation course is a must to learn the proper technique and skills but Joe manages to break down each technical lift and explain each thoroughly before adding them together. It’s been a lifechanging journey to date and I’m amazed at how my strength has grown in a relatively short period of time. Highly recommend!!!!
Fantastic experience: Great Olympic lifting club, perfect for beginnings looking to try a new sport through to experienced lifters looking to keep pushing themselves and compete in competitions. Joe is a fantastic coach who is really invested in ensuring everyone gets the most out of their sessions and has an obvious passion for weightlifting, bringing a huge amount of enthusiasm to each session. I started lifting with the club and following Joe's programme a couple of years ago and have become completely hooked. There is a great group of members and Joe has created a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Going to the club is often the highlight of my day!
Fantastic experience: Joe is a knowledgeable and patient coach excellent for those needing beginner support through to more high level coaching. Joe was able to use my CrossFit background in order to get the most out of me within Weightlifting. Sessions never seem rushed so you get your moneys worth! Free parking at the gym is always a plus too. I look forward to more fun and challenging sessions.
