Spirit Health Club Maidenhead Windsor: Opinions
Negative experience: Place has improved. Re fit in bar Area no sky as yet ...
Negative experience: Anyone know they going to reopen?
Negative experience: Avoid Avoid Avoid - I can't emphaise this enough, as other reviewers have stated, I attended this gym for a trial session with my partner, paid for said trial session then got hit with a parking eye fine - even though I was a paying customer - the gym mentioned nothing about parking, and were no help when trying to appeal the parking fine. I have since learnt many colleagues and others have been hit with the same parking fine. Parking fines aside, it is also the most basic of gyms, fine for cardio but little weights machines/ free weights - I had more at my school gym.
Negative experience: Still no indication of when they plan to reopen, if at all. Would be nice to think they were trying but if they are then they're not telling the members. Update : four weeks tomorrow since they posted on their FB page that they were still 'working through the regulations' and despite several people asking for updates they have not responded. Hopeless.
Positive experience: Small
Negative experience: Spirit Health Club is situated just off the A404 in Maidenhead, within the Holiday Inn hotel. The health club features a swimming pool, gym, weights and sauna. The pool, on our visit, had far too much chlorine in it, resulting in a rash. The pool side wasn't overally clean, lots of small stones, and the toilets and showers, both mens and womens weren't clean by any stands on our visit. Overall, wasn't impressed with our visit and won't be returning any time soon!
Fantastic experience: Good experience
Negative experience: As many others have said, the manager is rude and the place is dirty. The staff treat it like their own social club. My friend had items stolen from his locker months ago and nothing was done. If you dare complain you just get rolled eyes and the staff then criticise you in their Staff WhatsApp group chat, which some of the staff then share screenshots of with friends who are their members in the evenings!! That was my last straw.
Negative experience: Review from a dissatisfied customer who has recently terminated membership. Over the past couple of years Spirit Health Club’s service offering has declined dramatically. Appalling handling of a compliant has resulted in me seeking an alternative gym and provider to give £500 per year to. Facilities There has been no investment in any gym equipment for as long as I can remember, the highlight being a whiteboard going up but nothing to get regular gym goers excited. Equipment breaks and is often out of order for weeks on end. The equipment is old, rusty and filthy. The showers are dirty with old used plasters and empty shower gel bottles an ever-present sight. The showers break frequently. The steam room is regularly out of use. The pool temperature is often cold and uninviting to swim in. The Jacuzzi is frequently out of use. Dirty Towels are left in the changing room. Worn dirty pants left on the side in the changing room. Lockers always broken meaning trying to find a working one is a challenge. The water dispenser is always leaking and often broken – sort of important if you’re working out. Hygiene It’s well known that no deep clean is ever carried out on the gym equipment at Spirit. You will on occasion see a member of the Spirit team walking round with a feather duster going over the equipment which obviously won’t do much. Over the last few months it’s got progressively worse as well. Last week at the club I observed dead flies on the gym floor which hadn’t moved in over 3 days. Yuck. The dirty pants is obviously absolutely revolting. Management and staff Upon entry to the club you’re often greeted by an empty desk with an unlocked computer displaying members personal details. I have raised concerns about GDPR/Security breaches with the Manager but with no response to this I can only assume that the personal information of the club’s members isn’t seen as important. On the rare occasion that the reception desk is manned, staff are browsing the internet which is all the more frustrating when you enter the changing rooms and there’s dirty towels lying all over the place. The current Manager doesn’t seem interested in listening to member feedback. When you do provide feedback via the Facebook page your comments are removed and your permissions to post on the page revoked. If the post isn’t visible, there’s not a problem right? I have asked for an escalation path for my recent complaint as feedback hasn’t been addressed and the manager has ignored that request. You will hardly see Spirit staff in the gym itself providing guidance to members. The amount of members leaving the club must be far outweighing the number of new joiners. When I advised that I was cancelling my membership I wasn’t asked why and if there was anything they could do to retain me as a customer. One less vocal customer to deal with perhaps! Weak Management is unfortunately running the club into the ground. Avoid.
Negative experience: I went for a trial session. Its a basic but ok for it's price. However there wasn't a machine in the car park so didn't pay for parking. Got a fine which i then refused to pay because I was a paying customer and there wasn't a machine. They took it to court. I paid cash so didn't have any evidence. I lost and it cost £175. £175 for a £5 trial session. Avoid.
Fantastic experience: Okay
Positive experience: Very disappointed from the moment I went in. The whole set up doesn’t have a feeling of being relaxed. The pool was busy with classes so trying to swim & avoid others was very difficult so we gave up & went in the jacuzzi, well that was a waste of time as there was no pressure. The changing room floors were very wet & people had left their towels on the floor trying to mop it up. No toilet paper in cubicle, quite a few of the lockers don’t work. Really don’t think I would go back.
Negative experience: Submitted my details on their website as no one was answering the phone number advised, no one got in contact, but am recieving spam emails and texts from them on a weekly basis.
Negative experience: Useful facility as part of a hotel. Open to guests and non guests with membership. Overall needs a refurb and deep clean. Think it was good in the day but needs TLC.
Negative experience: Overpriced, small pool and gym, rude manager.
Negative experience: Do not use this gym. I was charged a £60 car parking fine in spite of registering my vehicle with reception.
Negative experience: Very cold swimming pool- too cold recently for my young children to enjoy unfortunately.
Positive experience: Not bad , staff are friendly but showers could do with tweaking as some are cold There are only two mats after the change round in the weights room instead of 3 .
Negative experience: Positives are that the gym staff are very friendly and helpful and are doing their best considering the state of the gym, it’s cheap and close to home, other members are friendly. Negatives, outdated equipment, showers are either not working or running cold. Roof leaks, carpets are stained from previous leaks and generally grubby. The lockers are unsafe and although the management are aware of recent thefts, nothing has been done to deter possible future thefts and as the sign states “not our responsibility” Could be so much better with a little effort from the management.
Fantastic experience: good place
Positive experience: Quiet gym with easy parking. Friendly staff. Not the most up-to-date equipment but they serve their purpose well. Nice pool, jacuzzi is ok but on a fixed timer. Steam Room and sauna are good. Classes are a nightmare to get on.
Positive experience: Friendly staff, limited equipment but does the job. Good value for money. Good parking facilities (ensure you register your car reg, now they have a eyepatking system)
Fantastic experience: I've been going to this gym for nearly 2 years, the equipment, the facilities and the excellent, friendly, hard working and knowledgeable staff are reasons why I keep coming back.
Fantastic experience: Lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and a beautiful pool.
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool, well equipped gym and friendly staff. The mother and baby sessions are a great way to spend a morning.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of most local health clubs in the past 30 years and the Spirit Health Club at Maidenhead Holiday Inn is by far the best - exceptionally friendly staff and atmosphere, free car parking, great sauna and steam room, good Pilates classes especially the Friday evening one, lovely warm pool (time it right and you'll even have it all to yourself - but avoid Happy Hour!) The Spirit Health Club is truly my 'Me Time' Love it! Suzy Kirkwood
