Golden Lane Sport & Fitness: Opinions
Negative experience: Don’t bother, no one knows nothing, no one sees nothing. And to think I was going to bring my child here you better off somewhere else
Negative experience: Website has no price information on it. You have to send all your personal data before you get to know costs, presumably so they can call you to hard sell.
Fantastic experience: Nice place, quiet, friendly staff
Negative experience: Quite simply the worst run swimming pool I have ever used. Repeatedly cancelling morning sessions. Repeatedly promising refunds that never arrive. Then deleting morning sessions altogether. Switched to evening sessions to find them, without warning, cordoning off 5 metres for an unannounced session (it’s only a 20m pool to start with!) It’s a beautiful historic pool being run very very badly. Oh yeah, and their HQ doesn’t respond to complaints. I am sad to say I’m defecting to the nearby Ironmonger Public Baths.
Fantastic experience: Really hope this place gets the local support they need to keep it going and to make general improvements - e.g showers. The staff are really sweet, always trying their best, it’s just quite annoying when the swimming schedule is changed so often or cancelled last minute (I think because of staffing issues) - especially when I’ve taken the time to block off a few hours of my day. Also - as we’re approaching summer time would be great to extend the swimming hours and have some continuity with this schedule please instead of such sporadic timings. Thank you
Negative experience: Very very very bad customer service. Was trying to book a lane in the pool, for 10 lessons, and was messed about and gaslit by staff including Scarlett Hayward. This is not how to treat a professional seeking to PAY for a service.
Negative experience: Expensive membership fee Limited opening hours Rude and useless staff Trash in every aspect Only good thing is close to my flat
Negative experience: Impossible to find and the address provided is not correct
Negative experience: Bathroom / Shower facilities are poor. This deserves 0/0 No towels on offer and the water machine does not work. Gym equipment is ok.
Positive experience: Being near the gym and amenities is good but what is going on with the staff? In the gym you'll barely see anybody from the centre their to help or advise. The only good thing is that I can get a residents discount!
Negative experience: Proper council
Negative experience: My swimming booking was canceled 10 minutrs before the starting. It was 8am in the morning, and I had to turn back home. Terrible service.
Negative experience: No time table for swimming phone number just goes to a robot no help no useful imformation took me 20 minutes to log onto the website just for it to not let me book anything worst website
Fantastic experience: Great little sports centre
Negative experience: Centre closed on day of my badminton booking due to staff absence. No warning given. No refund made. No communication.
Negative experience: The person in charge is always sick on Sundays seems that this person doesn’t want to work on Sundays. Clearly Hangover for the night before !! . It’s been like this for the past month … Bad management !! irresponsible, you guys are making people spend money in transportation for me and my friends. Come on !! A little respect with the members time !!!
Negative experience: Thieves! They cancelled a tennis court booking I had made and I am still chasing the refund more than 2 months later. Appalling customer service: allegedly only Rhonda handles refunds and she happens to never be at work. Read Google reviews of the parent company “Fusion Lifestyle” (in Montague Close) and you’ll see nobody ever gets a refund from these people! Avoid!!
Negative experience: I don't recommend this pool because it's always gets cancelled when it's closed they don't call or message you and they don't give your money back
Negative experience: Building roof leaks like a sieve, dirty & tired.
Positive experience: Great pool, only problem is the heat on the poolside
Negative experience: Tried going for a swim session -- website frezees through registration of a new member, app freezes too, no one at the centre picks up the phone. All together making it impossible to join.
Negative experience: The sooner someone efficient takes over this gym, the better. The raw material isn't too bad - the swimming pool, and weights room are okay if basic. But the whole place is demoralised and depressing. Staff are mixed - some good, some bad - but seem untrained. On the day of writing, for example, two staff let me through for a swim and I changed, only to find that the pool was closed. I was the only punter. On another occasion I was summarily given a charge on the website which meant that I couldn't book through the website for ages. Not that that would have made that much difference as the website is like a relic from the early days of the internet. No wonder Fusion is failing. Given its location it could be an ace boutique gym. PLEASE - someone rescue the Golden Lane gym and bring it back to full potential.
Negative experience: Been taking my two kids here for swimming lessons for over 5 months now, weekly lessons, twice a month you’re guaranteed their lessons will get cancelled on the day- no prior notice, just under an hour before they’re due to begin in most cases. The swimming lessons aren’t managed very well at all! None of the children in that class have moved up a stage, no updates from swimming instructors on when either, when lessons got cancelled they used to issue refunds without any issues until Rhonda started managing and it all fell apart. Weeks and weeks go by without any refunds, no reply to emails, no reply to phone calls, given the runaround by staff who all have a different spin on things when you finally get through! If you go in there’s apparently no managers available, does this Rhonda even exist?! We get told she’s the only one that can issue refunds yet she never seems to be in, never replies to emails calls etc… Absolute shambles. Completely mismanaged. Other parents whose children attend swim lessons seem to be having the exact same issues too, and the funny thing is, they admit to other people having the same problems yet do absolutely nothing to solve them! 3 weeks and counting and still getting absolutely nowhere. Any other business triggers refunds automatically without people having to nag them to death! Cancel your memberships and move elsewhere like i’ve done, save yourselves the hassle of dealing with non existent managers, and swim lessons that don’t seem to advance. Contact your bank for assistance they were great in dealing with them directly.
Negative experience: The lifeguard is pretty rude to swimmers, but otherwise an OK pool.
Positive experience: Staff were friendly Lights weren't working in the changing rooms had to use are mobile phone torches Changing facilities were not great for family with young children Numbers were controlled not too many people in the pool One pool no separate pool for babies
Negative experience: First time attending this leisure centre and I really wish I could go back in time and book somewhere else. I booked for a family swim but unfortunately my partner wasn't able to come into the pool as there's literally nowhere to park! The place is in such a horrible location and you wouldn't even find it unless you ask people walking by. It is in the middle of an estate with loads of flats around it. There's steps to get down to it which is not ideal when you have a pram. We were late due to not being able to find it so instead of having 50 minutes in the pool we had about 20 minutes which made my kids really upset. For the actual leisure centre itself, upon arrival, we were told by the receptionist that the lights in the female changing room wasn't working so we walked into darkness and I am talking serious darkness. No light what's so ever. I have never seen darkness like that before. Imagine changing yourself, and 3 small children in complete darkness! not the one! they didn't even try to come up with a solution or even offer some money back for the inconvenience which I think is so wrong. It was just another thing on the list to ruin the experience. The actual pool itself was semi warm and the changing room which is the only positive I can say. It's fair to say that we won't be going back again as we didn't enjoy our family day and was such a waste of time and money. (Oh and also I had to pay for my 6 month old and 2 year old and 6 month old nephew. I'm not sure why they wasn't free like everywhere else. Online says juniors and doesn't give you the option to add in infants like everywhere else. It should come up as 'discount 5'. I had to call up first and the receptionist wasn't even sure himself and then just said maybe it's because of the area and they don't get anybody under junior year and the babies and 2 year old are classed as juniors. lol)
Fantastic experience: lovely pool and staff
Negative experience: Despite being a member, I've had no email updates over the lockdown period at all. Apparently they are open again, but never answer the phone, and despite an answerphone message stating all calls will be returned within 24 hours, none of my messages over the last three weeks have been answered. I'd have thought gyms would be trying to retain members in what must be challenging times. Even more challenging with lazy unresponsive staff like the team they appear to have.
Positive experience: Great value for money. Very helpful staff.
Positive experience: I like the pool
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Always swim here. So relaxing! Always clean (unless you come immediately after swimming school).
Positive experience: Had great time can't wait to do it again
Positive experience: It was good but the pools changing rooms could have been much neater
Positive experience: Basic sports facility. Lacks some essential machines at the gym although it’s been renovated recently. Pool could use some very serious cleaning and opening times are quite limited. Staff is very friendly and the price is quite affordable specially for central london.
Fantastic experience: Joined last month and have been really impressed so far. Great price for the area for membership and the options available are great. Mainly use the swimming pool, which is always well set out with lanes. The gym is small, but there are an adequate amount of machines available and is not too busy when I have visited. Staff are friendly and the free towels for members are an added bonus!
Positive experience: Idk
Negative experience: I go here to swim because it's my nearest option. The staff are lazy and bored and you get some crazies in the pool with zero hygiene. One regular guy blows his nose into the pool repeatedly. Gross. But if you are desperate...
Positive experience: Bit unhygienic but friendly staff and ok pool
Fantastic experience: I play netball here with Powerplay who book the two netball courts out and unfortunately left my shirt behind. I called after 9pm and the lady who answered was polite, sympathetic and courteous. She went above and beyond to help me and I can't fault their service!
Fantastic experience: Great place to be and staff extra friendly!
Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and all around good gym.
Positive experience: Good place to go work out, good workers, make you feel welcomed
Fantastic experience: I use the centre mainly for the badminton court. Staff are friendly and the diversity of facilities offer excellent value for the monthly fee.
Negative experience: Not very hygienic. They are not giving towels. It is for 1 pound. But pool is very nice.
Negative experience: Had a terrible experience booking a court hire over the phone. Worst customer service ever. I tried to explain that I couldn't register as a new customer as their system returned with an error message. The girl over the phone said I need to register in person in order to book a court. I told her you need to get someone to take a look at this system error and she replied it'll take longer to get someone to fix and look at than registering in person at the centre. We were going in circles and this was just pathetic. Surely you can have alternative ways for your customers to book a court. You will lose so many future customers at the rate you are going.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Nice relaxed and friendly staff.
Negative experience: Mainly use the swimming pool. Facilities ok as such. Changing room: could do with a more regular cleaning. Staff communication: appaling. Efforts need to be made. Managers keep on changing. No one really seems in charge
Fantastic experience: Friday Islamic prayers
Negative experience: Like most sport centers could be good if pool was bigger and we'll kept. Also rather expensive for swimming pool size should be 2 pound a session.
Fantastic experience: Friendly, accomodating, good value, not busy, great tennis
Positive experience: Very good swim pool and cleaner
Fantastic experience: if you need a place to pray (muslims) there is dhur prayer here 1.30pm mon- thurs and Friday (jumuah) prayer - closed during school holidays...
Positive experience: Linen delivery
Negative experience: Very unfriendly, unpleasant staff!!
Negative experience: Good pool but gym is substandard. Nice staff but poorly managed... equipment is old and not quickly replaced if broken. Often no soap or no towels in the showers or cups to drink from. Changing rooms are unbearably hot in the summer. Not even worth the money as a cheap option
Positive experience: nice local sport centre
Positive experience: Some of the staff are quite cold. Other are very welcoming. It isn't loke Virgin gym or any other fancy sport centres. But for what is worth it is actually more than Ok. The swimming pool and classes are the strong points, the actual gym leave a bit to disappointed as the equipment are a bit too basic
Fantastic experience: One of the worst gyms I've been to and overpriced
Positive experience: Friendly staff and cheap prices for a good experience!
Positive experience: just called them to enquire about their offers, when the high pitched screeching from a microphone or other device, started off, couldn't hear her and she apologised and I cut off.....actually, when i rang back, they said I could have a free 'trial swim' and let me attend today....I believe miracles do happen !
Positive experience: The changing rooms can be horrifically hot and now-n-then they run out of the basics like toilet roll and shower gel but all-in-all a tidy, nice place with nice people that is quiet enough but not so quiet they'll close down
Fantastic experience: Cheap swimming, 5 pounds only, very few people in the evenings (don't know about the day)
Positive experience: Very good value for money memberships, however facilities are fairly limited. Recommended for anyone without a high budget who lives or works locally
Positive experience: Small but not busy sometimes the pool is empty
Positive experience: Great place for workout during your office hours. Not too crowded. Small compared to other fusion gyms but adequate.
Positive experience: 20m swimming pool, gym and tennis courts.
Fantastic experience: Coool
Fantastic experience: New clean nice
Fantastic experience: Perhaps not as flash as many fitness centres but absolute value for money especially if you work or live in the City. The Young at Heart scheme helps older people keep fit and healthy and there is a good programme of activities which take place here. The trainers are very encouraging too.
Positive experience: Small but good facilities, clean and friendly staff. Very good value membership.
Negative experience: A lot of crap. Small, no squat racks, one small little barbell with only around 50kg max of free weights to apply. Avoid this gym if you want to go for some weight training, boring environment. On top of that no one knows how to train, you make any sort of noise you get stared at. I thought my work gym was bad, but this just tops it all off!
Positive experience: Plenty of indoor and outdoor sports to do : gym, swimming pool, badminton, tennis, table tennis, boxing, fitness classes... Friendly staff
Positive experience: Came here to swim. They provide clean towels to use which is handy.
Fantastic experience: The gym at Golden Lane is really good, nice size good equipment and the fitness instructors have good knowledge and always happy to help. The tennis courts are a added bonus as it is the only place in the square mile to play tennis. The classes and class instructors are amazing and will get you working no matter what the class is and how long it is. All the staff are friendly and approachable and are always happy to help with any question.
Fantastic experience: Good gym, was with them for 2 years, great, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Unexpected centre - hidden away in Golden Lane Estate -swimming pool, tennis courts, gym, studios. Would recommend if you are in the area.
Fantastic experience: Amazing!
Positive experience: Good price and they have a pool and lovely classes.
Positive experience: Hidden gem of small but well kept facilities (based on gymnastics classes for kids and tennis courts).
Positive experience: I've been to this centre several times. There are various activities, so you can find whatever you need. I started pilates classes and I am pleased with the attitude of the trainers. They are very helpful and thorough. Most importantly, the training rooms are comfortable and clean.
Positive experience: Have been going here for around 3 years. Good facilities and great price considering the location. Changing rooms and showers are a little shabby. Now doing a swim only membership which is around £35/month.
Fantastic experience: I love this gym. Everyone is so friendly and ready to help/show you new moves (if you like). The equipment is good, although the gym is small, it never seems too busy. The classes are great and some last 30mins, which is great for me for a lunch hour. There are also 30 minutes high intensity classes during the day, which really do make you sweat and the push you. They also do yoga and pilates, which isn't my kind of thing, but I went once and it was really good, a lot harder than I thought it would be. They also have a pool, tennis courts and run outside sessions. A great all round gym and brilliant value for money! I saved a packet changing from another, larger, corporate gym down the road...
Fantastic experience: 10 minutes walk from Moorgate and the pool was near empty after work - friendly staff on the front desk as well.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful and pleasant staff. Nice refurbishment job, a good pool and changing area, gym is well equipped and had a member of staff on hand if you need any help. The whole place is exceptionally clean and the view out to the estate is pleasant.
Fantastic experience: A really five star place.
Negative experience: Facilities very poor, boring place, staff at the reception incompetent.. Asked for memberships and was being told that using the pool would be £56 a month.. Had a pretty good laugh that day. Considering that I am paying £10 in the gym I am using now (The Gym), I would not be paying more than £15-£20 per month for using their pool. It just doesnt worth more than that.
Negative experience: Beware thieves operate in this gym I had my locker broken into and my wallet, money and car keys stolen. That was 6 weeks ago. Despite being asked daily AND chased by the police the gym have so far refused to hand over the CCTV footage to the police Why would they withhold footage that could pinpoint the culprit? seems very curious! I'm significantly out of pocket (had to change car locks etc) and all the gym has done is ignore me and brush the incident under the carpet. Go elsewhere.
