Negative experience: Staff are fantastic but spa area and changing rooms are dated and filthy. After catching another eye infection for the third time after using the swimming pool and listening to other members say they have had the same issues before I emailed a complaint to the gym and head office but no reply. I am no longer a member there because of the above

Positive experience: I’ve been a member for years, the amazing and dedicated staff team has been what has kept me there all this time. Sadly, the place is dated, and the changing rooms are falling apart. The gym is basic basic, with few machines, that look like they are from the 90s. A refurb has been ‘on its way’ for the last 3 years and never happens. Classes are amazing quality- but extremely limited, there is only 3 that are after typical working hours. The rest are aqua, during the day. So many people have left due to the decline of the facilities, lockers broken and hanging off the walls, 3 kettlebells in total, ceiling tiles missing and limescale everywhere. It could be amazing but it is neglected by the higher ups. However the team are brilliant, Haydn in particular always goes above and beyond and has a smile for everyone, Nothing is too much trouble 5* staff. But the state of the place makes it 3*

Positive experience: Staff are really welcoming and friendly, well kept gym equipment, pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, changing rooms could use some new lockers. Not a huge place but decent overall.

Negative experience: Sort out the changing rooms Sort it out Leisure Club members may accept this but as a Hotel Guest this is absolutely disgraceful!

Positive experience: I wasn't sure about joining this gym after reading sobre of the negative reviews. Me and my partner have been using the gym since October and we are very satisfied. The pool area is nice and the water is always at the right temperature. We used to swim in Everyone Active but the water was freezing...in both Hemel and Harpenden. The gym area is not massive but just perfect for us. It's got all the machines and weights that we need for our workouts. Also the staff is great. Very professional young people doing a fantastic job. I know the showers / changing area looks a bit dated, but we've been told that they will be refurbished soon.

Negative experience: Really disappointed in the state of the changing rooms Staff have been saying for months / years now they will be upgraded but not happening and they are getting worse Over flowing sanitary bins in the ladies toilets is what prompted me to post this as so disgusting The showers are rusty, locks are broken, floors tiles are stained dirty, ceiling tiles are water damaged, corner shelves in the showers broken, the men’s are even worse - so vile- I unfortunately know this as 2 days a week at least they swop the men’s and women’s round- then the women don’t even have sanitary bins Not good enough and I expect goes against many health and safety standards And then they have the cheek to want to charge you for use of a towel ‍♀️

Fantastic experience: My wife has been using the spirit health and fitness centre since 2012 and finds if perfect for her.

Positive experience: The staff are great, very friendly and helpful. But the facilities are in desperate need of renovation. The gym equipment needs updating, needs a leg press . Some of the equipment does not work well. The changing rooms need updating. There is plenty of space in there but the layout is inefficient. I will keep going here as it's a nice, friendly relaxing atmosphere. But I do hope they update the gym equipment soon. Looking forward to changing this to a 5/5 review.

Fantastic experience: This is a great spot for a recharge if people don’t hog the jacuzzi, pool is a great size for teaching kids or a relaxing swim

Positive experience: The staff where very friendly! The facilities themselves are definitely outdated. Overall from changing rooms could do with more modern facilities. The sauna was at a good temperature, the steam room had a lingering unpleasant smell. It would be improved with menthol etc instead. The pool area all needs updating. Overall it’s ok to visit if you are staying at the hotel. Overall satisfactory gym for its size. 3/5***

Positive experience: Nice small gym but desperately in need of the makeover they keep promising

Negative experience: Friendly staff, clean towels on arrival, lock for one of the lockers, sounds all good? But why the 2 stars? Well, my partner and I used the swimming pool, sauna, stream room and the jacuzzi. All were OK, but not great. The swimming pool had what looked like green mould/moss around the edges under water. But the water was nice and toasty, plus it wasn't overly busy with the book in system. The steam and sauna rooms were once again OK, but not great. It just looks like there is little to no attempt to clean the build up of limescale. This just makes things look dirty. There is a shower located in between the 2, the scale in this area is somewhat shocking. In the locker rooms, the showers look like they have never seen any sort of anti limescale treatment at all. Just makes you feel slightly dirty after you showered. Overall the place was OK, but not great. Hence the 2 stars. Could be better with a load of elbow grease and a routine of anti scale treatment.

Positive experience: Highly functional Gym with Pool, Sauna and Jacuzzi. Quite small but has a number of cross-trainers, treadmills, a rowing machine, weights and free weights area, so a lot is packed in. The decor could do with updating but it's a really good value alternative to a day at the Spa and I believe much cheaper than most gym memberships

Negative experience: Used to be good but now equipment often breaking down, both air & pool temperatures have been turned down making it chilly, hardly any lockers available, place needs refurbishment urgently, way too expensive for what it now is.

Positive experience: I have used this place on and off for many years. Rarely busy and lacking in facilities, but the basics are there and they have the hottest hot tub in town. Needs to reduce membership costs to compete with the more modern gyms in town. However it is refreshing to train without all the "love Island wannabee selfie w**kers".

Negative experience: Place needs cleaning urgently!! Scummy dirt line (bio film) all around the pool, Men’s changing room is minging, limescale on shower heads. All possible lurking places for legionella so if you’ve felt ill after using the facilities then thats prob the cause. The mens changing room is very cold and ac/ahu blowing out cold air. The supply and extract grilles are covered in “fluff” and dirt. Only god knows when the ducting was cleaned. Another good place for bugs etc to hide!! The Mens showers look like they’ve been repaired by a six year old. Water sprays out of every joint even though someone’s had a go with the ptfe. 1st shower I tried to adjust the spray head and it all came away in my hand. Lots of lockers either don’t work or people are taking the keys home and using the locker as their own private one. Only gave it one star as there’s nothing lower. The prices they charge for membership should allow them to refurbish or at the very least employ a decent cleaner and handyman

Positive experience: Gym good, quite at times. Swimming pool good for kids too. Got a hot jacuzzi and hot steam room and hot sauna.

Fantastic experience: The health club is good when the classes are actually on. hotel tends to cancel classes at last minute if rooms are needed for meeting which is not good for people who are paying nearly 500 pounds for membership
