Our comment from FitFit UK about Bingham Arena:
Bingham Arena is a modern leisure centre located in Nottingham, UK, with a bright, welcoming atmosphere that makes it a popular choice among locals. The facility features a clean swimming pool that maintains a comfortable temperature, along with a well-stocked gym that offers a variety of exercise machines to cater to different fitness needs. Users have remarked on the friendly and helpful staff, which contributes to a sense of community within the centre.
However, there are some areas for improvement. Many visitors have noted that during peak hours, the gym can become quite crowded, leading to waits for equipment. Additionally, there have been recurring issues with the cleanliness of changing rooms and facilities, such as leaking toilets and malfunctioning showers. Users have also pointed out that certain equipment, particularly in the gym, requires better maintenance and servicing.
Despite these challenges, the overall experience at Bingham Arena is seen positively by many, with great classes and a variety of amenities, including free parking for the first three hours. The centre serves coffee and offers a welcoming environment for families and fitness enthusiasts alike. While improvements are needed in the management of busy times and maintenance issues, many users appreciate the centre's modern facilities and dedicated staff.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
Bingham Arena: Opinions
Negative experience: Was my first gym and i went there for over 2years but it had limitations, be ready to wait 30min for bench press or squat racks during peek times and gym changing room bathrooms are often in need of repair/maintenance for long periods. Only machines that are good are the ham curl and leg ext but gym staff are very nice and earnt them a second star
Positive experience: Great leisure centre, the classes are good the sports instructors are excellent in the classes. The whole place has a friendly and welcoming feel amongst members. The reason for 3 stars is a friendly ask to those who can, please can you clean the changing rooms (female) a bit more, top up the toilet rolls, top up the soap, fix the leaking roof, and shattered glass in the gym window. I would also like to see the toilets generally working rather than signs about using down stairs, and what would be nice is that although the equipment in the gym is heavily used ... please can you service it better so that it works - particularly the bikes, and please don't just get rid of them, mend them would be nice. Also, ask the receptionists to be more accommodating and smiley (this doesn't apply to all). Thanks very much.
Negative experience: The place is dirty and unhygienic. There is only one hand drier working in the ladies toilets. There's often no soap or loo roll. That's if the toilets are even working. When it rains the ladies toilets are often closed, something to do with the drains? Whenit rains there are buckets everywhere catching the leaks from the roof. The air conditioning has been broken in the studios since around May, which made classes unbearable and I had to reduce how often I attended. No offer of compensation was given to members when requested. It would have been nice to have had membership fees reduced until the air con was fixed, but no. It still isn't fixed and it's December and membership fees are going up! Turnstiles often are not working and neither is the app. I keep getting strikes for not attending classes that I was only on the wait list for, but somehow the app marks me as absent. Classes are always full. I never use the gym anymore as I'm often stood around waiting to get on equipment as there's not enough. The only reason I'm still a member is that the gym is the only one close to me.
Fantastic experience: i love that bingham finally has a proper, modern leisure centre. i mainly use the pool and it's always clean and a decent temperature. the whole place feels new and bright, which makes a big difference compared to some of the older gyms around. the gym floor seems well-stocked with equipment, and the changing rooms are kept very tidy. my only gripe is that it can get genuinely rammed after 5 pm on weekdays and the weekends are often chaos, especially with the swimming lessons. you definitely need to book your session in advance, but if you go off-peak, it’s brilliant. we’re lucky to have this facility in bingham!
Positive experience: Clean friendly Just a shame you can no longer just turn up to swim or take the grandchildren its all classes or lanes
Fantastic experience: Nice
Fantastic experience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’m new to the area and recently joined as a member. I’ve now used both the gym and swimming pool several times, at different days and times, and I think it’s only fair to add some balance to a few of the less positive reviews. The reception staff have always been exceptionally friendly and helpful — it’s worth remembering that politeness works both ways. The whole facility is spotless, and I regularly see staff cleaning throughout the day. The pool temperature is just right, the showers are warm, and everything is well maintained. The gym is a great size with all the equipment I could possibly need. Yes, it can get busy at peak times, but that just adds to the positive, energetic atmosphere. The background music is a nice touch too. Overall, this is an excellent leisure centre and fantastic value for money. Visit with confidence and enjoy! Andy
Positive experience: Good leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Six lanes swimming pool, great gym, coffee shop, Jubilee Hall for activities and a big carpark (free for 3 hrs). Good arena with friendly staff. For playing batminton, have to go to leisure centre.
Negative experience: Really disappointed with the children’s swimming lessons. My child is stuck on a level for a year now without any support or action from the teacher. The progress on the app is good to track however when my child moves up in the %, two weeks later he’ll be moved down in %. This has been happening constantly and differs from lesson to lesson, he will have an item marked as completed, then next week back to good/fair. How could that be?! You shouldn’t progress if someone is not ready. This is demotivating for a young child who tries their best to move onto next stage. We have complained before as my daughter was in the same situation and so are other parents I know. Many dropped out due to this, as it seems we are paying for a service that is not received. If a child struggles, the teacher should help them overcome any obstacles. This is not the case here. Do not recommend and will be looking at different options for my child.
Negative experience: Everything is always broken: Machines, showers, turnstiles, toilets, bottle station, air-con. For the expensive membership I pay, I expect so much better. They need to hire actual cleaners instead of relying on the staff with other duties. Saw someone shaving at the sink the other day and a full 24 hours later the sink was still covered in hair. Also if you go near sunset make sure you take sunglasses with you! Got “high-tech” machines that let you watch TV/youtube etc but they’re not connected to the internet so it’s a complete waste of time. They also face the boring plain wall so that’s just perfect. The gym has a couple tvs dotted about but none of them are in view of any equipment. Whoever designed the showers made the floor level so the water barely drains away and becomes a puddle of sludgy hairy water.
Negative experience: Please put 4 proper hairdryers back in
Negative experience: rude management
Negative experience: Very dirty place, especially the swimming pool. The floors are not cleaned or prepared for the next day. There’s hair everywhere and yellow stains on the walls. Overall, it doesn’t look hygienic at all. When using public facilities like this, I would expect higher cleanliness standards. The showers at the pool and the floors are honestly dirty.
Negative experience: Very disappointed - still only one hairdryer in the swimming changing room. Air conditioning still not working in the studios making 20 20 20 class very difficult to do - the large portable fans brought in were very noisy - making it hard to hear the instructor - and not very effective.
Positive experience: Go swimming there regularly. Moden clean facilities. Staff friendly and helpful
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to use all exercise machines and facilities to keep you fit and healthy.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic building run by fantastic staff. Gym has everything you could ever need.
Fantastic experience: excellent swimming instructors
Negative experience: Let down, waste of time for little ones,he had one go then was told rudely that he wasn’t allowed to go on again because he struggled (it was his first time) wasn’t allowed to swim past a certain way ,the bit he could swim was crowded small pool was closed. The pool was freezing.poor manors from lifeguard, not returning not recommending.poor experience
Fantastic experience: Excellant facilities. Monthly memberships available or pay as you go. Serves coffee. Swimsuits for sale at a good price. Helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: Came here with my grandson for a swimming lesson. Really nice place with good facilities
Negative experience: Cancelled my membership and direct debit as instructed, I even received an email confirmation that my membership was ending from Lex leisure. Another direct debit was set up on my account without my knowledge and took another months payment for a membership the following month! Spoke to Lex leisure they informed me that they had closed my account, but someone at Bingham arena had ignored the closure note on my membership and had opened a new account in my name, issued a new membership number and proceeded to take another £46.50 out my account the following month! Why and who was this new account opened for, certainly wasn’t me? Not good!
Negative experience: Rude front desk staff. Dirty showers and changing rooms full of hair. Toilet cubicles with blocked toilets. It was a penance being a member. Thankfully I am no longer. Terrible management. They really should treat their members with more respect.
Positive experience: Difficult to book classes as there is a waiting list. Swimming times quite restricted. Better to join a gym that does not offer swimming classes that you can use the pool whenever. If you are not a gym bunny save your money on the membership. Nice clean facilities. An induction should be booked at time of membership to ensure people go.
Negative experience: Wasted alot of money on this centre. It's not made good use of the space and overcrowded. Have to wait to get onto things. Can never get in classes
Negative experience: Whoever designed the building made a big mistake. From the outside you think wow its huge. However for some ridiculous reason the actual gym is confined into a small area. They've wasted so much space in the building. Even the reception area is too big. The gym has a lack of equipment and too many people. For the price it's not a great deal. It doesn't even have any plate loaded machines. Every workout was frustrating waiting for something. Also the changing rooms are dirty. Left after 1 month.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff.
Positive experience: Brand new arena which is modern and new, but really too small to cope with gym and swim demand for the area.
Negative experience: Appalling, incompetent and rude reception staff and manager. Tried to bring son, checked in advance on phone and told fine, arrived to be told no. Avoid avoid avoid Bingham.
Fantastic experience: Coffee fair. It would help if the young women would not use there phones until they have finished with the machines.
Positive experience: Enjoyed both pilates followed by multifitness class. Then a chat with friends afterwards with a lovely coffee
Positive experience: Lovely modern facilities, clean and well maintained. Pool is lovely and warm. Much nicer compared to Cotgrave and Rushcliffe. Only quibble is there seems to be a lot of unused space. Where are the sports courts?
Positive experience: Great social event
Negative experience: Good equipment in the gym but far too small for how busy the area is.
Negative experience: Have cancelled my membership for swimming. Doesn't really open early enough to swim before work if you work Monday to Friday. Can't swim after work because of schools and lessons. Not upset by the schools but then only option is too late doing other parent stuff. Main reason for cancelling is the cleanliness of the changing rooms and showers. Filthy all the time. Full of rubbish and hair. Nobody cleans anything. All tables, floors and windows are disgusting. Don't want to use the place at all.
Fantastic experience: Great place. Fab classes, well maintained gym, and super swimming pool. Friendly, professional staff.
Negative experience: Was not enjoying going so tried to cancel my membership, had to call up and was told I had to pay another month, when I asked if I could avoid it was told that I could and they would do that now so I cancelled my direct debit. Fast forward and they still charge me for the next month and slap another 20 quid on because I cancelled my direct debit without any warning.
Negative experience: Very disappointed. 1.unisex pool changing room ( no consideration for someone who might gone through abuse, or who is watching your todler having a shower!). 2. Cleanliness of changing room very questionable and showers are nonexistent, unless you call a dust spray a shower. 3. Although lanes are wide, it's very crowded, for slow Lane as advertised for someone who likes to keep distance, it is imposible due to so many people in 1 Lane. Constantly behind someone and yet someone is touching your feet behind you. For the price they charge would definitely not recommend.
Negative experience: I've encountered repeated issues with my QR code ID when attending classes at Bingham Arena.Despite scanning it diligently, there have been occasions where it hasn't registered, resulting in restrictions on my ability to book classes. Even when I've been placed on the waiting list and availability opens up, I'm unable to book through the app and must resort to manual booking via email because I have an Android phone. Upon seeking assistance, the past three restrictions were resolved after polite and detailed explanations. However, the fourth restriction has persisted for over a week. On May 7, 2024 at 8:30 pm after my body pump class, I visited the reception and was assured by the staff that the issue had been resolved. Yet, the following day, I encountered the same problem. Frustrated by the ongoing issue, I reached out for assistance once more. Unfortunately, the response from Rachel was dismissive and unhelpful. Despite providing evidence of previous restrictions, I was met with insistence that there was no fault with the system. Feeling unheard and disregarded, I expressed my frustration, only to be labeled as rude. I got angry because you won't listen and cutting me off! LISTEN!!!! I want to be heard and understood! Not you are insisting that there is nothing wrong with your system because obviously there is ! As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with respect and understanding. The attitude displayed by the staff does not align with the excellent customer service demonstrated by the manager during a recent virtual body pump experience. The manager's proactive approach and genuine concern for customer satisfaction were commendable. Having worked in customer service for 20 years in the UK, Dubai, and the whole South East Asia, I understand the importance of empathy and attentiveness. It is disheartening to be made to feel like the problem when all I seek is a resolution to a recurring issue. It is essential to remember that people don't become upset without reason. I have been very patient with you guys & enduring restrictions on my bookings four times is not acceptable! The past week, It's disheartening to repeatedly hear that only the manager can resolve this, especially when it should be within the capability of any member. While conversing with Rachel, I made sure to take screenshots as evidence. This was so I could demonstrate the situation accurately when speaking with her in person. Interestingly, shortly after our conversation, the restriction was miraculously lifted. Transparency and accountability are vital for fostering trust and resolving issues effectively. Constructive feedback allows businesses to improve and provide better service to their customers. I hope for improvement in the future and request the opportunity to discuss this matter further with the manager.
Negative experience: A modern community leisure centre with no sports courts is just ridiculous. Like many have already said, there is so much wasted space! A tiny gym for the size of building and the quality of machinery is sub par. The pool changing rooms do often smell like service station toilets and the changing room cubes are not regularly cleaned! There is no sauna or cold plunge, just the basic 25m and kiddies pool. Lane swimming is not well managed. It’s very obvious when a slow swimmer is in the fast lane. People may not be aware of the lane segregation by ability, it is not sign posted nor is the direction of swim. I wanted a swim monthly membership so I could swim train for an event with the flexibility to cancel, but no such membership exists. I have to pay the full flexi membership £45 per month just to swim! Even though not using the gym facilities. Other gym options offer so much more and are much better value. This leisure centre offers me convenience and is a short 5 minute walk away! It is such a shame, it could have been so much more!
Fantastic experience: Great pool and venue
Fantastic experience: Amazing building
Positive experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: Fabulous! Well thought out leisure centre Love the seating next to the pool and the reception area. The swimming lessons are well organised and learning content is great
Negative experience: The staff and swimming pools are 5 star what is zero stars is the freezing of their membership policy. My daughter broke her leg at the start of the month but they aren't willing to freeze the membership until the 1st of the following month. Disgraceful when it's related to an injury.
Fantastic experience: Grey facilities, reasonable prices
Fantastic experience: A modern, clean gym with top facilities. On the pricey side of things but they’re my favourite in the area!
Fantastic experience: Was in a show there and thought it was great. Shame that whoever designed it didn't think about theatre being used there, but the place looks great
Negative experience: Definitely doesn't worth what they charge. Be aware that you won't be allowed to use studios even if there's no class, not even for a quick strech. (And you won't be informed before you sign up) I've seen a previously comment mentioning the changing room smells strange - well, strange is not the word. It stinks! There's no maintenance on the changing room extractor fan as you will notice hearing that wasp noise whenever you're there. Gym is usually busy and there's no many options of equipments... But...if you have some free time at 12, then the pool seems to be a good option ! (The 10 pound fee to enroll is probably due the high rate of people giving up at their first month)
Positive experience: Great facilities. The Panto was excellent, the seating is AWFUL.
Fantastic experience: A very nice leasure centre
Negative experience: Fraudsters, expensive membership and will charge you for an extra month after you cancel with an additional £10 sign up fee. despite it's size the place is made up of only a gym and a swimming pool, the gym has mediocre equipment and is very busy, the people do not rerack their weights as there isn't much room to put them, the dumbells are uncomfortable to hold and noone cleans equipment after use. the changing rooms smell strange. there aren't any sports facilities (ie squash, badminton), do not sign up here, go somewhere with less scummy business practices
Fantastic experience: friendly smiling staff, love the tea/ coffee and buns
Negative experience: It’s an alright gym don’t get me wrong. But in terms of payment, there are massive fees for missed payment which I was notified with an email in my spam, then changed greatly, not even a phone call which could have been sorted day.of, a disgusting way to do business and drain money from peoples accounts. There are other gyms closer to Nottingham which don’t pull this, I suggest you go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Local Leisure Centre. Friendly Staff. Great Instructors. Lots of classes.
Fantastic experience: Superb facilities. Kids enjoyed their swim time here. Would definitely recommend using it
Positive experience: Nice new Pool, Clean Facilities. I don’t think the anti-clockwise strategy in the lane swim is great, it makes the water wave in a particular way. My Advice, from 1st time coming, would be Remember to bring a £1 Coin for the Lockers
Fantastic experience: Very shiny and new, with helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Great new facility. Tidy and clean. Bright and spacious. Pool and cafe are great
Positive experience: Seats are too high in the pool viewing area but other than that great
Positive experience: Could've done so much better! The utilisation of space is a bug bear for me, there is so much unused space and as it took so long to finally open you'd think the amount of building mistakes could've been rectified.. the council and Lex Leisure definitely missed a trick here. Otherwise there are positives, the cafe, the hall and heat on poolside .
Fantastic experience: Great gym and friendly staff.
Negative experience: Took my little one for swimming. Had a proper meltdown so didn't use the swimming pool and went back home. Told lady at the reception, all i got was maybe next time. No refund offered or other alternative option. Partner rang back to speak to a manager, manager wasn't available, took his details. Haven't heard from them since then!
Negative experience: the staff were very cold and rude, tried to go to the gym but I didn’t have physical ID (nowhere says you need ID). Tried to show them an online but they wouldn’t accept it. No apology
Negative experience: Went in for information, but none available on swim times for the public, or on facilities they have in the pool. Just get direct to google if you want know anything, as they believe everything is obvious. I would of thought staff would be more informative on what they have to offer and have information to hand, it has been open about a month now if not more, not like they have not had time to get this information sorted out.
Negative experience: Pure greed, not worth the price.
Negative experience: No squash courts, ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: this is a new leisure center in Bingham, open in 2022 August
