Royal Free Recreation Club - Hampstead: Opinions
Fantastic experience: First time visit this centre and I love it so much, NHS staff at this centre r very friendly and helpful , also guy sitting next to the main entrance he's really gentleman,
Fantastic experience: Two great dance fitness classes to attend if you want to get a good workout and have fun. Cordi's Bolly X at 11am on Sundays and Val's Latin-based class at 6.30pm on Mondays. In both classes you "follow" the teacher rather than spending a lot of time learning routines - challenging at times but also good for your brain!
Fantastic experience: I was sent here for cardiology rehabilitation. Perfect settling with professional guidance
Negative experience: Don’t make the mistake I did by signing up too quickly. This gym is a letdown for anyone serious about training. The equipment is not great (mostly aging Precor, bad ROM, good luck doing a complete pulldown without it hitting the top). The leg press is laughably small—wobbly and clearly not built for adults. The space is cramped. There’s no Wi-Fi. You even have to pay to fill a water bottle. They’re definitely trying, but you’ll want to road test it first before committing. Membership is relatively expensive (no join fee, but still overpriced for what you get). I’ve never had to improvise this much just to get a decent workout. It honestly feels like the space was designed to be unaccommodating. The tiny stretch area is constantly blocked by trainers and their clients, and the side zone isn’t even long enough for a full plank. The rowers face each other awkwardly, which makes even cardio feel self-conscious. So I can’t warm-up without fighting for space (or not getting the option at all), and the workout itself becomes a compromise no matter what. On the plus side, the staff are friendly and the windows do open—but that’s about it.
Fantastic experience: For the membership fee I pay to use this gym- it is absolutely gorgeous place. Has all equipments running properly and a group of staff taking care of everything very well
Positive experience: Decent gym but for £35pm NHS there should be a lower price without the use of the pool which I don’t use.
Fantastic experience: Very good environment. Staff friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Cleaning staff Tony is super friendly, the staff are helpful.
Fantastic experience: It’s a good gym with great people, Jordan is absolutely helpful, works hard and is always providing cheer!
Fantastic experience: Love Pickleball sessions there. Hall is brand new and staff friendly. Convenient central location
Fantastic experience: Very good place to train. Friendly and helpful people.
Positive experience: As a member of the Royal Free staff, I have been using the pool at the Rec Club for over ten years and I really value it. It's small but it's often very quiet in the evenings, which I also value - great to unwind in after a days work. The staff in the club are very competent and genuinely friendly, which goes a long way. Prices are still very good compared to big clubs. I'm not a gym user but I know people who use that facility and they are happy too!
Fantastic experience: The staff here are great and friendly
Fantastic experience: A great place with all the facilities I need for fitness and a great team who are always friendly and helpful!
Fantastic experience: Love this gym! Great staff super welcoming and friendly and amazing welcoming culture. Worth training here for the community alone.
Fantastic experience: Affordable gym and pool for the price. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great place to workout. I believe that there is everything you need and at a very good price. The staff is super friendly and nice! They are always available to spear tips about how to improve your workout as well as a nice chat. I have been attending this gym for over 5 years now and I am still very happy about it. Totally recommend it!
Fantastic experience: This place is cheap and cheerful. Just joined as a member but the gym is lovely and the pool is good too! The staff at reception are always happy to help. Looking forward to trying out the personal training!
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff. I go here because it's close to home
Fantastic experience: A very good gym and an excellent NHS Cardio gym.
Negative experience: Brrr - last night minus 2C and still no heating working in pool changing rooms .
Fantastic experience: Great place to rent. Friendly staff. All clean.
Fantastic experience: Greate Experience
Fantastic experience: The Yoga is absolutely wonderful. The room is peaceful and spacious. Very close to transport links. Charli is the most amazing teacher. She explains every move so clearly you don’t even have to look up. If you are a beginner she makes you feel very welcome. You won’t get a better teacher.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym!
Fantastic experience: Terrific facility and a gem in the community. So grateful to have this place
Fantastic experience: Well equipped and excellent service by staff
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Oky
Fantastic experience: Fabulous gym
Fantastic experience: Nice place.
Positive experience: For me personally. It's a good well kept gym and hygienic pool. However. The pool changing area is a little small and claustrophobic. A critique depends what you want from a fitness place. This pool is very convenient. But I miss the space, glass toof and light that you get at Swiss Cottage Pool. But that's my personal preference.
Fantastic experience: Great practice hall, changing rooms recently nicely refurbished
Positive experience: The staff here are great and friendly. The actual gym/work out room is very small on the second floor and tends to be filled with campers hoarding the squat rack and benchs. There is a pool though and the changing facilities are well maintained.
Positive experience: Daves retirement
Fantastic experience: Had my physiotherapy session here.very friendly kind and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Great staff. No fuss gym . Love it.
Fantastic experience: As always a pleasure to be there, good facilities, stress free, excellent staff manners and very convenient
Fantastic experience: Lovely gym.. friendly staffs :)
Fantastic experience: I got my vaccine really high here
Fantastic experience: Great experience having my 2nd jab here. Staff so friendly and it’s amazing for such a repetitive mundane job. I am not pro or against vaccinations or a fan of NHS or not. Credit when credit is due. I feel really grateful to all the staff here with their warm and sunny smiles. I thought I should drop a review as I am waiting at the sitting area waiting to be released. The place is clean and the whole operation is very smooth. The only problem is that there are limited spaces on the streets for parking.
Fantastic experience: Vax
Fantastic experience: Walk in vaccination, I've got my second jab here. Super nice staff!
Fantastic experience: Came here for vaccination. Everything was perfectly smooth. Thanks all you generous volunteers!
Negative experience: Average as far as I could tell. Looks like it was designed to be used by royal free staff.
Fantastic experience: VERY NICE COVID TEAM SO HELPFUL AND KIND VERY CLEAN
Negative experience: only went for a covid jab
Fantastic experience: Place where you get jabbed
Fantastic experience: Had my vaccination there. Very well organised.
Fantastic experience: Get yer free anti covid jabs here!! whilst they're on offer (book through your GP)
Fantastic experience: Super efficient vaccination centre.
Positive experience: Easy to get to in good condition and amazing well set up for the vaccine roll out
Fantastic experience: Its being used as a vaccination hub at mo. I went for this and grateful to all those involved. In the progress to get this covid jab to all of us that need it.
Fantastic experience: Being used as a covid vaccination hub so no fitness facilities available at present.
Fantastic experience: No crowds, plenty of space
Fantastic experience: Excellent pool for children's swim lessons
Positive experience: Great value for money (especially for NHS staff) has a fully equipped gym and pool. And offered classes for all kind of activities from spinning to ballet! It's not a posh kind of gym but it has everything you need and it's the cheapest gym i've found within zone 2!!
Positive experience: Good introduction to the gym. Facilities are a high standard.
Positive experience: Reasonable gym for the price you pay with swimming pool facilities too. Staff unfortunately lack customer service skills and etiquette on how to speak to their paying members. Opening times still haven't been updated online. Times advertised on website and on REC's leaflets differ.
Fantastic experience:
Positive experience: I have been coming here for years and while facilities are decent the staff can be neglectful and complacent at times. If I use the badminton nets they expect me to put them away and rarely help. The same applies if I use the netball posts. Sometimes when I teach children to swim in their pool adults are in there and are not informed that it is unavailable to them causing issues which keep repeating.
Fantastic experience: A very good archery club indeed, welcoming members and very low fees.
Fantastic experience: I enjoy playing badminton here
Fantastic experience: The refurb is fantastic. All new machines. The new functional training area is class, with the return of a heavy bag, which I was gutted left for a while. Reasonably priced, and usually fairly quiet. I do avoid peak times though, as quite small. Handy it has a pool too!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, awesome sports centre and friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great studio facilities and range of classes. Friendly and welcoming staff members.
Positive experience: 40 pounds a month to go month to month. A small gym to be sure, but quiet and not very busy 95% of the time. There are about a dozen cardio machines, and enough machines to work most muscles groups.
Fantastic experience: Great for physio.
Positive experience: Small gym but super new equipment and friendly atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: I have a great specialist experience registered nurse with 20 yrs + name Tina Theophilus kind, caring and professional who is excellent with the Older Person,Cardiac Rehab Improves fitness, Breathing, Mobility and all people i recommend this class as user and ex-nurse.
Fantastic experience: Expensive but good facilities!
Negative experience: Its okay
Fantastic experience: I literally live there everyday after work
Negative experience: Dirty, very small, no profesional, very smelly. Very Rude staff
Positive experience: Always quiet.
Positive experience: Not too busy, not a great selection of equipment
Negative experience: Dirty, crowded, overpriced, tiny gym with old uncomfortable equipment. Aggressive, threatening guys. Staff members who watch your session on CCTV and then make comment on your lifting, trying to sell you personal training. No trials, so they can extort £40 from you for the first month.
