Fantastic experience: An excellent combination of martial arts techniques, self-defence and teaching core values such as respect. We can’t sing their praises highly enough. They really care, and look at the child as a whole, with frequent check-ins to determine progress at home and implement other techniques if needed. Exactly what my 6 year old needed to improve focus and challenging behaviours when we were at a loss as to what else to try.

Negative experience: This place is a proper mcdojo at best just stay away. No one should feel pressured to sign a contract like they tried me. They will try to push out free lessons which you only do 1 of and if they hand out belts every week like hot cakes that's a sign. The more money you pay the quicker you'll become a black belt just stay away from the disgusting mcdojo business take your kids elsewhere they learn absolutely nothing compared to other martial artists of the same level. Even a yellow belt else where can best a so called black belt from castle. I was almost conned around 5 years ago and still it's the same take your kids and yourselves elsewhere where

Negative experience: Our son initially enjoyed the lessons here. However we were soon pressured into signing up for an incredibly expensive 3 year contract after which they guaranteed that he would be a black belt. Our son was sad to end the lessons but we were left feeling very uncomfortable by the whole situation. It would have meant we committed a five year old to three years of martial arts and we’d have been committed to about £4,000 of costs. The lessons were good but before you entertain signing up make sure you ask about the long term fees/costs as it will almost certainly make you look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I can thoroughly recommend Castle Martial arts to anyone, this is more than just a martial arts dojo, if you want your child to learn respect, life lessons and discipline alongside how to defend themselves this is the place to come. It’s about supporting your fellow students and community, doing and being your best and recognising that failure is a part of life, to coin a phrase “It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.”

Fantastic experience: Honestly, I've been attending Castle Martial Arts for a long time and it is fantastic! The instructors are very kind and also highly trained, I've had an amazing time here and learned a lot, including life skills and self defence! My child struggles with listening and his behaviour, since starting at castle martial arts I have seen a huge difference in him. His instructor always takes on board the struggles my son is having at home and works with him to overcome these through his lessons.

Fantastic experience: I haven't had any personal experience of martial arts so when my son said he wanted to do it, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm so glad I enrolled him at Castle Martial Arts. He sometimes lacks confidence and gets anxious, his instructor has been brilliant with him. They take a really personalised approach and I feel like they really care about his development. It's not just about learning moves on the mats, they have a whole leadership programme focussed on developing life skills that children (and adults) can use in their everyday lives. I highly recommend Castle Martial Arts!

Negative experience: It's a scam you have to pay so much money for just 30 minutes of training I've been going there for a year and I barely saw any improvements you cant really learn that much just 30 minutes twice a week.

Fantastic experience: Our soon who is 4 has been attending castle martial arts now for over a year. The teachers there have been fantastic always spending the time to get to know the individual children and encouraging them to reach their full potential. He absolutely loves going every week and has made some amazing progress just recently. His confidence has come on leaps and bounds since starting martial arts and I can’t recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: This is our 5 year old Grace at the start of her amazing 4 year journey that has took her from a 6 week school activity getting her first belt to her black belt and now just 1 year away from her 2nd degree black belt. Hard to believe that she is now sparing and ground fighting with children of all ages and adults when as a toddler she would have seizures and stop breathing when she felt pain. And who knows what will happen in the year leading towards her next black belt, passing her assistant trainer course or even maybe a place on the demo team, one thing she desperately wants to achieve . We are so proud of Grace in all she has done while at castle martial arts and we cannot thank her teachers enough that have helped her over the years. I would recommended Castle to anyone wanting to take up martial arts and they always take time with each student getting the best out of their students.

My boys have learned many things including life skills, discipline, respect for others, self respect, confidence and self defense to name a few. The instructor's at Castle are very friendly and have huge amounts of patience with their students. My boys thoroughly enjoy their classes and look forward to their lessons every week. I cannot thank Castle enough for what they have done for my boys!

Negative experience: Castle Martial Arts is a rip off and a sales based organisation. They apply many selling tactics to get you to part with your money. I called them to find out about karate lessons and the prices. They said they had 'bundles' and I had to come and choose one. That's not true. There weren't any bundles just beginner, intermediate and advanced for the same thing. I tried to make an appointment to come and try it out with them and they gave one to me that was a month away claiming that they were super busy and couldn't give me an earlier appointment. When I went there, a whole month later, their game started. They asked me to come before the lesson started and we saw a boy doing amazing tricks with a plastic sword and it impressed us. Then, just before the lesson began, we were taken outside of the room for a 'chat' which ended up being a sales pitch. They wanted me to tell them why I wanted to do karate (I said I wanted to be fit, de-stress and have fun) and then, the sales pitch was arranged on what I had said. Then, I was also given a 100 pound discount that was apparently only available in that month. The person also did 10 minutes of training with me in which they put a great emphasis on how fun it was and how relaxing and healthy it was (targeting your needs). It was all lovely and rosy, the person was very friendly and we had a great chat- then I asked about the fees and times. Each session is 30 minutes and they charge 699 pounds for training up until a yellow belt. I didn't like the 30 minute sessions times (I've done martial arts in other places with much longer sessions and cheaper prices plus 30 minutes is basically the amount of time it takes to do a proper warm up). The person's explanation for this was that 'doing things in short bursts of time makes it stick in your memory' but I don't see how that would work. To improve at any sport requires as much time as possible spent practising. 30 minutes session times is ridiculous, many other places offer sessions between 50-90 minutes. Then I challenged the person on the prices as I thought they were far too expensive, especially as the sessions were so short. The person was clearly unhappy about this question and tried to clear the other people that were in the room out so they wouldn't hear our conversation. They said that they do 'more' than other places as they teach a mixture of martial arts and self defence. How much self defence and martial arts can you learn in 30 minutes anyway??? Personally, I found this excuse pathetic. The person wanted me to sign the contract and pay the 99 pound deposit there and then. I nearly did (which would have been a terrible mistake) but then I decided I wanted more time to think on it, especially because the martial arts classes I used to got to were much cheaper and the sessions were way longer. The yearly insurance was 30 pounds along with 5 pounds per session which sums to 20 pounds a month. While castle martial arts asked me to pay 100 pounds per month for five months with a 99 pound deposit which makes it 25 pound a session. It's ridiculous. When I got home I phoned up another martial arts centre near me and asked them their prices and they told me straight away that I would pay 24 pounds of insurance and 26 pounds a month for one hour weekly sessions. That is much more reasonable and cheap than Castle Martial Arts. Be careful about the information you give them. They always try to relate to you and your situation. Don't let them lure you into paying ridiculously high prices that aren't even worth the time that each session lasts. After I left I pondered on the whole situation and I felt so shocked that people could try and trick people out of their money in such a way. Most importantly, there were only around 4 people in the class that day and one of them was the instructor's son. So they weren't really as busy as they claimed to be. So why did I have to wait so long for an appointment in the first place then? I would give 0 stars to this place if I could. 1 star is being generous.

Fantastic experience: It is a fantastic martial arts academy where you are always made to feel welcome. Starting martial arts has helped me gain so much confidence in myself, not only my ability to defend myself but also in day to day life. Everyone is so friendly and supportive, it's like a second home to me with greatest martial arts instructors one could possibly have. I would recommend to everyone wanting more confidence, fitness, happiness or social circle.

They are inclusive of everyone of every culture and gender and treat everyone with mutual respect. I have grown in fitness and confidence and really enjoy training, even the hard stuff!

When he first started he had no confidence he wouldn’t even go on to the mats but now his confidence and grown so much at home and at school and martial arts has played a big part in him gaining his confidence. The staff always listen when I have something to say and always try there best to help however they can. I have no faults to say my son absolutely loves going. I would definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: I've been training with Castle for just over three years, I achieved my black belt in may. I have met some of the best people and made new and interesting friends. Last year I decided this is what I want to do for my career and joined the certified instructor training course. I have some of the best martial arts instructors in the country teaching me. And the best of mentor's. My life has definitely changed for the better. I'm fitter, stronger, confident, I have goals and ambition, and most of all I'm proud to be part of the Castle family.

Fantastic experience: As a parent, I find the teaching and support the instructors show to my children invaluable. All of the instructors are fantastic role models, friendly, polite and helpful showing what can be achieved through the application of respect, discipline, perseverance and all round good attitude. Its not just about getting the technique right it's about improving self confidence, composure, self-discipline and of course overall fitness. Benefits from this include better overall health and balance as well as an improved sense of their psychological well-being. Castle does not promote aggression but helps to teach the self defence required by kids of today and adults alike. Equipment including mouth guards, face protection, headgear and padding with a safe floor provides the added reassurance that my kids safety is paramount. Aswell as providing a fun atmosphere for my kids they've made friends that will last a lifetime. Castle Martial Arts is much more than that, it's also like a 2nd family to myself and my boys! Would highly recommend.

I do about 10 classes a week and its fun the teachers are mr lee mr chan mrs betts and mr wragg master sheehan and mr sheehan you should come because you get 30 days free the places are intake abbeydale and ecclesall. you can have loads of fun, learn self defence and get really fit at the same time. i cant wate to become a black belt have fun

Fantastic experience: I started at Castle Martial Arts as a student back in 2004 and I stayed until a few months after receiving my 3rd degree black belt in 2013. I have also been through their CIT (certified instructor training) programme which was and still is the most life changing thing I've ever done, and then subsequently worked and taught for Castle for several years until my departure in 2013. I eventually left to set up my own martial arts academy back in Clitheroe, Lancashire where my family are which is now doing very well. . I went from having a dead end job and no direction in life to having a career I adore and a life I look forward to waking up too every day. I wouldn't have been able to achieve any of this if it wasn't for my time at Castle and I will always be super grateful for that. The instructors are constantly evolving and trying to get better and as a result the general standard of the academy also constantly evolves and gets better. Whatever your reason for starting martial arts, I can't recommend enough giving Castle a go. . Thanks for the memories!! :-)

Fantastic experience: Considering? Then commit at Castle.. At thirty-eight, a career change and growing young family I found myself questioning my fitness, my future and my goals. Having held a passion for martial arts since a young boy and practicing different styles up until being twenty-three. Disappointingly always failing to fully commit my time, energy and mind due to a career as a chef, I realised now was the time. I contacted Castle and they rang me straight back. Mr Wragg asked me down to meet up and look around my first impressions of the venue were clean, tidy and organised and the centre didn’t have a daunting negative feel about the place like some schools do. Friendly and genuine I sat a almost interview like one to one with Mr Wragg professional but reassuringly relaxed at the same time. We then set my first training session and I couldn’t wait. Mr Lee leads the classes and does a exceptional job in doing so, having experienced quite a few Schools in the past Castle is a Class above the rest theirs no segregation between skill set or fitness level. Mr Lee’s patience, continuity and attitude are second to none. Castles philosophy is part of every class you attend reinforcing why your there and helping you retain focus on your goals and targets. Communication between Castle and student is far beyond anything of past experience and you really are made to feel part of a team. I started back on the 11th of February and I think within two weeks my eldest daughter of six was sat in the same room meeting with Mr Wragg and a week after my second eldest four years was too. I firmly believe it is important for Children to experience a martial art for all the life skills it can teach that school cannot, it helped me and my Children are loving it. I attend with my girls one session a week and a adult class the other, but what is brilliant is the flexibility once you’re on the leadership course to attend to suit. Its great training with your children but also getting a little of your own time too. Results…. obviously everybody is different, but I have found since starting at Castle I am happier within myself, I don’t need to drink alcohol to relax, happier at home, more focused at work and overall fitter. It has even encouraged me to start cycling to work. I could mention loads more positives and if your thinking yeah what’s the cons? I can honestly say there aren’t any. JB

Fantastic experience: My son has been going to Castle Martial Arts for about 4 years now and he absolutely loves ever minute of it. There is a real family feel with talented, enthusiastic instructors who put everything into their students, teaching them physical, emotional, social and general life skills as well as discipline which continues at home. As a result of attending Castle my, now 13 year old, son is working towards his 2nd degree black belt, has a 6 pack to die for and has learned skills I never thought possible. He makes me burst with pride every day and I am eternally grateful to Castle for everything they have taught him. I can highly recommend the academy.

Fantastic experience: Our son started at Castle martial arts when he was 3years old, it greatly imrpoved his concentration at school and he loved his instructor and going to class. Not long after Having my second child I joined too, firstly to help lose weight and secondly because training as a family was amazing. Because Castle martial arts is very family orientated as soon as my daughter was old enough she joined too. They make you feel extremely comfortable and encourage training as a family because they know from experience families will train for longer. My children and I have been training there for 7 years and it's the best thing we have ever done, both for my confidence and fitness and my children's confidence and learning about commitment. The instructors there are extremely dedicated to helping you to improve and do better ever time, they make you feel welcome and at home and are such a positive group for my children to be around. We couldn't ask for a better martial arts academy.

The structure of the classes inspired me to join in too and I can't praise everyone enough. Thank you to all the instructors and leadship team for making us feel like we've been there forever.
