Fantastic experience: I had an amazing time at this bouldering centre! The staff were absolutely wonderful, the space was beautiful, and the routes were fantastic. I really appreciated the variety – different hold sizes and types, and the problems weren’t just about pure strength, which made climbing much more fun and interesting. I’ve already visited seven different centres across the UK, and this one has definitely been my favourite so far thank you guys

Fantastic experience: This is a really great climbing gym. Friendly, helpful staff, clean, inclusive without being overbearing, and generally a nice place. The parking locally is ample, worst case being park somewhere in the retail park. I’ve never not had a spot very close. The problems themselves are in my opinion pretty unique compared to other places I’ve been. They are often low start OR low finish (love these ones), and feel pretty ruthless from the start, but there’s a great range in difficulty. Pricing is excellent, very much value for money. Genuinely no complaints.

Just visited for the first time with my wife, kids, my brother, and his son — and I can honestly say it’s one of the most fun things I’ve done in years! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly, helpful staff who made us feel completely at ease. After a quick and clear walkthrough of the rules, we were straight into the action. I’ll admit, years ago I thought this sort of thing wasn’t for me — it looked a bit boring. How wrong I was! I only wish I’d tried it sooner. We had an absolutely fantastic couple of hours, and the kids loved every minute of it. Needless to say, we’ll be back very soon! See you then, Dean

Fantastic experience: Booked my son into a mini FREEKs session (love the name) and my god it was so fun! We've done loads of kids classes / activities around York and this was easily one of the most fun! Hannah was brilliant with all the kids in the session and helped my newbie son with his climbing & confidence. We'll absolutely be back regularly!

Fantastic experience: This is a great centre for bouldering, with a wide range of grades and a great variety in hold types. The relatively lower walls in some sections totally avoid any fear of heights (or falling from them) and many of the climbs don't rely on height being an advantage. A great session for techniques all round. Update. Worth adding that the way they refresh problems is by colour so the new stuff is always spread around the centre, rather than focused on one spot like some places do. Which helps stop any one point becoming overcrowded. It's also a good location for absolute beginners with a selection of low level grades and teaching spots.

Positive experience: Never been before but bought a 1:1 hour lesson for my son's birthday (10). He's never done bouldering before and absolutely loved it. The guy instructing him was so supportive and encouraging, the staff were really helpful throughout. The centre itself itself is great (though I don't have much to compare it to, having not been to others). It's got loads of walls so looks to have almost endless options and challenges. They have loads of shoes that can be hired (£3) or you can bring your own. They also have plenty of options for how you want to do/pay for your bouldering. As is often the case with large warehouse style activities, it's pretty chilly inside, though not if you are actually participating based on the people taking jumpers off, and some in only their shorts! If you are spectating I suggest layering up! The tea was made from a kettle () and they have a small self-service coffee machine. They also sell a small range of snacks - I wouldn't call it a cafe but it's sufficient. Overall a really positive experience and I strongly suspect we will be back.

Positive experience: A good range of climbing walls with multiple climbs of varying difficulty. I find the handholds fairly rough, which hurts my hands after a while. It lacks a cafe, but does have a machine dispensing a selection of hot drinks and a chilled drinks cabinet.

Fantastic experience: awesome walls, and really lovely staff :) easily accessible from city centre, esp for any uni students studying at the King's Manor building (literally a direct 20 bus from theatre royal AKA 2 seconds from KM).

Fantastic experience: Spacious gym, well set - grades seemed reasonable. Coffee was good despite being from a machine. Board looked good although didn't try. Welcoming atmosphere which is a big plus. Only improvement would be a training area / warm up area.

Fantastic experience: Been climbing here three nights a week for about a year and a half. Great gym, great community. All the staff are super friendly, setting is good and varied, and you’ll always find someone to talk to if you want.

Seems it focuses on beginners and children to the detriment of usable facilities for more experienced climbers

Fantastic experience: I hadn't climbed in 20 years but out of weird luck my partner wanted to give it a try as it's local to us, I was relatively impressed but she was blown away! Staff are incredibly warm, welcoming and knowledgeable and the walls (seem to my untrained eye) very well laid out and very engaging to climb! I am kind of relieved as I invested a sizeable amount in shoes etc before hand

Fantastic experience: I wanted to try something new, so signed up for the adult beginner 'give it a go' class. Safe to say I'm hooked! The centre was easy to find and the facilities are clean and tidy. The equipment was good quality (shoe hire is included in the beginner class) and the atmosphere was great. The teacher was super friendly and encouraging - there was a small group of three of us and they took their time to go through everything thoroughly. They explained safety stuff, equipment, and techniques really well, and it was super fun! I felt like I was already getting more confident towards the end of the session. I had a great time and will def be coming back - thanks! :)

Fantastic experience: Fantastic climbing gym, I'm only a V0-V2 climber (font 3-5+) but there's plenty for every grade, my partner (7a+ climber) and I can spend all day there and not get bored. Lovely staff, well set climbs, super chill friendly vibe too. I only wish they had some comfy chairs/sofas to chill in after a climb as we'd happily stay longer for a decompress! (They also do incredible brownies!) *edit* they now have comfy sofas!

Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff, great student offer on Mondays (£5 session) and fun route setting here. Having been a regular at red goat, I can recommend freeklime as well, very different style of climbing here I felt but that's personal. If you're a climber definitely give this bouldering gym a go.

Positive experience: Really enjoyed my first time bouldering. Wasn't expecting no hat or harness but felt fairly comfortable to climb without them. I managed most of the easy routes. I was definitely getting a full body workout and was tired by the end of it. I was ok without chalk for my hands but I feel others would benefit from it. I saw others using it. Hired shoes were essential with grips and simple light design. Cafe there too but didn't try it.

Positive experience: Nice atmosphere. Not to busy. For someone who hasn't climbed for a long time it was a good reintroduction.

Positive experience: I absolutely love it here, has quickly become the highlight of my weekend every week! Chill atmosphere, nice grippy holds, so many interesting problems to solve, friendly staff, and 10/10 amazing music playlist. Also LOVE the Griptonite app which is fab for tracking progress, making it feel like a game / competition with yourself and for finding the perfect problems to match your ability! Just loses a star as the toilets could use a touch more TLC - just a little bit dusty + water streaked paintwork. Still overall fabulous though!

Fantastic experience: Good variety of boulder problems and some interesting holds I've not encountered before. The gym is actually a lot bigger than I was expecting, which made it feel less crowded. Shame the refreshments available are limited. The coffee is from a vending machine, but was actually really nice. Super friendly staff on arrival. Great place!

Positive experience: I know nothing about climbing so I can't give an informed view of the standard. Booked for sons 14th birthday. I was expecting the easiest climbs to be easier. The staff were friendly and helpful and the overall experience relaxed and pleasant. You can get coffee, soft drinks and snacks too

Fantastic experience: My 5 year old son attends the mini freaks classes. All the instructors are really friendly and help him overcome any confidence wobbles he has. Plus they play lots of games which he really enjoys and help him learn without realising it. Classes are good value. Class sizes are maximum 6, which is a good balance between personal tuition and friends to make. He's been several times and we'll continue to go

The staff were very sweet and supportive with her; walking her through the children's walls, safety, and giving us ideas for games with bean bags and gems.

Fantastic experience: First visit this summer holiday. Booked my 7 year old In for a Sunday morning lesson with “Rob”. Initial nerves were an issue but Rob soon had him relaxed, happy and enjoying various games & challenges. Really very clever set out lesson with my son learning and gaining confidence without even realising. On a personal level Rob was fantastic with my son, patient but firm, encouraging and helpful with him. Based on Rob alone for this I wanted to give a shout out and leave a review. Thanks Again

The staff were super friendly (thank you to Lucy), the music was great and the route setting is absolutely brilliant at all levels, they’ve really thought about how to make every problem enjoyable. The atmosphere generally was super friendly and welcoming and as relative newcomers to climbing we really appreciate that. We have climbed at other gyms in hull and york but you guys have gone straight to our number 1 spot, so thank you and we’re already looking forward to coming back!

Fantastic experience: I'm 66 years old and came to Freeklime (love the name!)with my daughter. It was my first time climbing and I LOVED it! Chris explained things to us, gave us tight fitting footwear, which is essential, did some demos, then left us to explore. He kept checking back with us and offered words of encouragement and advice. He was great. The level of difficulty is easy to follow because all the hand and foot holds are colour coded. I stuck with green and yellow because they were easier. We loved watching some experienced climbers achieve what looked like impossible manoeuvres. I'll definitely return.

Fantastic experience: The whole set up works, but what really stood out to me was how attentive the staff were to my 6 year old. Not only did they rebuild her confidence in climbing again, but they didn't miss an opportunity to positively reinforce when she was safely walking around.

Fantastic experience: My son aged 7 had a brilliant time here this morning (26/5/23). Chris gave him an induction and was very friendly and helpful. There was a great selection of climbing walls of varying difficulty and a nice, relaxed atmosphere. My son grew in confidence as the session went on and definitely wants to return to challenge himself even more next time.
