Horizon Academy BJJ

Fantastic experience: My son trains in Bristol but we spend a lot of time in Devon as have a holiday home here. He was missing training so we took him to Horizon Academy today. He really enjoyed it and was made to feel very welcome, thank you. I would definitely recommend it

The coach teaches very systemically that even the experienced student and the beginner both attain value. Something special is here. Keep it up

Fantastic experience: I have just started taking my son here and it's already the best thing for him. He's going to be 6 in September so with the PowerPups and the class is small enough to be well managed and big enough for everyone to get involved. The instructor is so lovely with them and so down to earth and seems to be great. My son is so happy and is already looking forward to next week x

Fantastic experience: A really welcoming, friendly club for anyone who wants to learn BJJ. Zak is a great teacher and the community he has built at the club is friendly and helpful. Everyone is there to learn, have fun and help each other improve. Would recommend to anyone wanting to learn BJJ.

Fantastic experience: Amazing club. It has a really welcoming atmosphere and excellent teaching. I started at horizon 2 months ago, I am 29 and had never done any grappling sports before joining. I had no cardio and was really out of shape. Everyone there took time to help and teach me. The facilities are great and have everything you could want. Zak's teaching is awesome and perfect for people of all levels. Aki is also a great coach and has lots of superb advice for me as a beginner. This is a very well run and club and I'm very glad I took a chance and joined. It's great fun and amazing for your general health and wellbeing. Zuko is also amazing!

Fantastic experience: Joe Rogan brought me into Jiu Jitsu while Zak, Aki, and all the friendly students at Horizon convinced me to stay. One of the best decisions I've made in my life. Not only will you learn self-defence in a welcoming environment, you'll also improve valuable traits -- such as confidence and humility -- to improve your daily life. Horizon Academy feels like a home away from home.

Fantastic experience: Couldn't recommend this academy enough. Going back to martial arts after a prolonged break wasn't going to be easy but Coaches Zak and Aki made my return seamless. They care not only for their students BJJ skill, but also their wider fitness, physical health and mental wellbeing - which is not always the case with sports coaching. I can't thank them enough for making me feel welcome and cared for!

Fantastic experience: The self defence classes for women that Horizon offer are brilliant. Zak & Aki are great trainers and go at a speed that is comfortable for all. Everyone in the class is friendly and approachable, it's a judge-free environment. I'd thoroughly recommend Horizon.

The rest of the reviews will tell you all you need to know; coach Zak is truly excellent at what he does, Aki is a treasure, I would die for Zuko, and the students are helpful and friendly. Fantastic experience: Came here cause I'm at work based training in Exeter, straight off the bat this place is friendly and accommodating. Aki spoke to me like I was a old friend catching up, Zak the coach was treating me like I'm a long time student. The place is clean, nice, friendly and the jujitsu is great. Fantastic experience: Going back to horizon after lockdown has been a long wait because I absolutely love training here. If you want to surround yourself with positive, friendly, good people and learn something healthy in a fun and safe environment I don't think there's a better place to be.

Fantastic experience: Great club. Coach is very helpful and appears to genuinely enjoy what he does. Just finished with my free taster week. Now going to join as a full member. They have classes running almost every day/evening which is a real benefit if your work/life balance is sometimes scrambled. Club has a relaxed, friendly vibe but the Coach is keen to improve you and teach you the knowledge. Coach is also happy to discuss real world applications not just the sport / rulebook based applications. They also do BJJ focused fitness, strength & conditioning classes also; which is a real benefit. Regular social activities planned throughout the year, such as beach parties, so it's more social than some other clubs. Come join in the fun! IMO one of the best clubs in the South West.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic BJJ school: The coach really knows his stuff and provides great technical detail. He's also really helpful when you don't quite get a move - super one-on-one support! On top of that, there's plenty of drilling time and at the end of every session you get free rolling time. Everyone is really friendly, hard working, and willing to work with you, so whether you wanna go technical or go hard, you'll get a chance to train the way you want to. Beginner-friendly as well as a great place to train for experienced BJJers - 100% recommended!

Fantastic experience: This is a great place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, everyone is really friendly and the Coach delivers a nice balance between technical bits, drilling and free play. Overall it's a relaxed environment and a great place to meet new friends and burn a few calories too. I highly recommend them.
