Nuffield Health Bishop's Stortford Fitness & Wellbeing Gym

Negative experience: Very poor quality swimming facilities. More than just dated but actually falling apart. There are hundreds of lockers but lots are broken and then only 3 changing rooms so if you don’t like getting naked in front of strangers you’ve had it. There is rust everywhere, worse than the locks on my garden gate, the ceiling is grubby and drips on you in the shower and the showers are tiny so you have to hang you stuff outside. Decor is a bit cheap looking, mostly a cheap ugly laminate. Obviously not invested a penny since it opened. My local council gym and pool which is half the price is fantastic so I won’t be joining Nuffield. The only plus is the steam room and the staff who are really lovely.

Plenty of lockers available for storage. Great deals being advertised from time to time. Overall friendly atmosphere, highly recommend.

Negative experience: Imagine paying like £50 upwards for membership when they can't even fix the aircon and have working drinking water taps in the mens changing rooms..embarrassing. i used the Nuffield by Moorgate and that is leagues above this...

Negative experience: Went and saw a physio on the 11th July, still awaiting for my exercises to be emailed to me, even though i have called now 8 x and being told , yes were get them to you. Make your own mind up how this place is. update,. got my exercises after 6 weeks, constantly calling and be promised that someone will get back to me, then i get a demand for payment, so i ask to speak to a manger to discuss it, sorry they are busy, will get one to call you back, thats was 3 weeks ago, now got a demand for 2 visits, and still not spoke tot he manager, i only went there once... DO NOT USE THIS PLACE..shocking.

Negative experience: I was very surprised with the services provided from Keeva. She was so unfriendly and disrespectful and very intimidating to us. We tried to explain to her our reason by we had to leave the things in the locker and she only shouted to us and called apparently her supervisor to tell us the same. Also right after she pushed to my daughter to take a picture saying that she must do it for safety reasons. We felt harrassed because that procedure was taken right after what happened with the lockers. After that, I came alone and she glanced at me and laughed. This is very disappointing after having always nice experience with many of your member of staff. First time ever I have a discrimination treatment in my life .

Negative experience: I went to Bishop Stortford site and, my experience was horrible with Keeva. She approached to me by raising her voice, and with so much angry issues, just to enjoy the cafeteria of the gym as I was not allowed to. Beyond that, she treated my sister who is a member verg discriminatory, saying that she must take a picture by raising her voice, because of safety of the gym. My sister answered that better in another day, and she insisted that she has to do it now otherwise, she will be banned. Apart from that, we only left 10 minutes in the lockers and then we came back, just to do some groceries on the high street. Then, she again, rose her voice to my mother saying how dare she left her things in the locker, and ran to find another person to put her stuff out. That was the worse experience I ever had in the gym The name of the guy is something like Colin. Beyond that, my sister was told that she has to wear a bracelet, and she felt harrased by him, she feels so scared to come alone, cuz noone else has to weat that bracelet in the gym. if she doesnt wear it, that guy comes very quickly violent to say to her, that she needs to leave. My sister is under age, and that is not the right service to provide to family who tries to enjoy your facilities. Also, they told that they do not have with official claim papers for customers. My sister felt that she was treated very unfairly. On general, we are very happy with this gym we are customers for almost 4 months now. And we recommended more than 10 people to become customers.

Fantastic experience: Recently started to go to Nuffield Bishops Stortford. What can I say, friendly staff, great equipment and 2hrs free parking too Would certainly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a decent sized gym with great equipment.

Fantastic experience: Very clean site, staff is nice and well trained, they always showed me different exercises and offered me nutritional advices. Pool is warm and you can do hot/cold therapy (they have a shower close to the sauna, and you can use it as a hack to improuve your cardiovascular circulation). I can't wait to try all their classes, definetely one of my best 68£ spent

Fantastic experience: I have been a member in Nuffield Health Bishop’s Stortford for over 2 years, and I love it there. It has the best facilities in town, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, well equipped gym, class studio, changing room, shower facilities, lockers, cafe, or even a beauty salon. Staff are friendly there and are always ready to help. Members covered wide range of age and are always nice to each other, it’s easy to meet new friends there and form a community. It also provides lots of different classes, Yoga, Pilates, Body Balance, Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Attack, Body Steps, group cycle, Aqua aerobic or even dance class, ballet fit and Zumba, from stretching to high intensity exercises, there must have something to suit everyone. I have compared the classes variety to other gyms, and I can say Nuffield is one of the gyms which provide the most exercise classes. Class instructors are professional and friendly, there are always options in class workouts which suit everyone fitness level. They also have many personal trainers who can help you with your personal training goals. Ever since I have become a member, both my physical and mental wellbeing have greatly improved. I would definitely recommend Nuffield Health to anyone. I rate it 10/10.

Negative experience: Absolutely do not go! It’s like joining a sect and you cannot leave… I signed a contract and of course I gave notice to leave. However they decided to ignore it and I now received an email from collectors asking me for the payment of months I didn’t use as I relocate to another country!

Negative experience: Expensive, bad service and unreasonable contract with a lot of obligations as user and unreasonably less obligations in return from their side.

Negative experience: The staff are great, but everything is broken - It looks like they are running it into the ground to close it down. The place needs serious investment to bring it up to the standard of other gyms in the town… which all cost much less than this one.

Positive experience: I’m starting to suspect the other reviews on here are a sneaky ploy to stop it getting busy :) Honest review, it’s not the newest equipment with revolutionary kit but has absolutely everything you need, staff were friendly and it’s generally clean and tidy throughout. The pool area, sauna and steam room were decent. By far the best gym in Stortford with a pool and most definitely not the worst Nuffield I’ve visited. Happily signed a 12 month contract today

Positive experience: Doesnt have much of leg machines, just lots of arm. When I asked about physiotherapist as they offer there, they provided me with personal trainer who is incompetent. And asked why do I even need a physio. I had C section and have diastasis recti. Thats why! And he told me to do crunches and dradlifts. I was shocked. They ask for 50 pound a month from me. Could not provide physio thats Why I went there. Then I closed my membership and went to hospital. Also prices is very high. 48 pound off peak. i can go until 3.40. Cant go after work. And another is 12 month contract for 50 and you can come whenever.

Positive experience: The gym is friendly, the staff are fantastic and the location is clean and tidy and the facilities are well equipped with a nice pool. However, as mentioned some of the cardio equipment is old and I mean really old (i mean they have 1st generation IPod chargers on the machines, thats how old they are lol) with many machines out of service. The running machines dont seem to have adequate or any shock absorbsion springs (or maybe they have just worn down) so its like jumping on concrete when using them. Its a shame because the facilities are good and they are a reputable brand, plus the staff are great. The equipment just needs an uplift and a lot of people I spoke to at the gym are leaving because of this issue.

Negative experience: Half the facilities don't work, the steam room is mouldy, old and out of action, screaming kids, poor service and a jacuzzi that is freezing cold, is not my ideal of a relaxing environment

Negative experience: I just had a bad experience with them recently. They were closed for months because of the pandemic and subscription was suspended. Then on 5th of August they charged me with the monthly payment. They did not send any notification about re-opening and welcoming me back. Neither prior, nor after taking my money. I made a complaint and ask for cancelling membership and direct debit. They told me that could only happen from 1st of October. I told them that was ridiculous and that I have cancelled direct debit already. I saw them taking the monthly fee on 6th of August, while they must have been open for days by then. Anyway, no answer since then.

Negative experience: In 2 month I will finish my year contract and I will go to another gym, al the equipment is old and doesn't work properly, dont have proper maintenance. Bikes, only 1 work properly of 6/7, runing belt 2 of 12 etc.. In someone the health rate doesn't work, in other ones the intensity etc.. Avoid this gym, the only good place is the swiming pool and its overbooked. Bye soon.

Fantastic experience: Well equipped gym, lots of classes to choose from

Negative experience: Takes too long to repair important parts of the spa gym facilities - 3 months plus repairing the jacuzzi and still not working properly, 2 weeks plus repairing the sauna and now 1 week with no ligts in the steam room. Surely this is poor service to its users paying a high monthly cost for a place with dwindling facilties. Nuffield get your act together and thing about your customers.

Negative experience: SCAM GYM. Be careful, is almost impossible to cancel the subscription.

Negative experience: AVOID! Many machines are broken or do not work properly: heart rate, unable to change intensity, etc... There are only a couple of leg machines and if you want to use them you will always have to wait as there's always someone using it. The swimming pool is a joke... The membership is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and you have to stay with them for a YEAR. You can not cancel your membership (unless you lose your job and you prove it, that's what I was told...) Even heard employees not being happy working in that gym. Totally not recommend it.

Negative experience: Do NOT go there. The only thing they care about is taking money from your account on the 1st day of the month. Bad customer service.

Negative experience: Be aware of their ridiculous membership cancellation policy! Even if you cancel it before the month ends due to the circumstancies which do not depend on you and which require an immediate cancellation, you are still going to be charged for the next month when you will not be using the club not even once. However this is not what they tell you when you join the club. They are only interested in taking your money and do not know what good customer service is. Gym and pool are quite average as well. Would not recommend.

Negative experience: I joined this gym in 2001 when it first opened before it was run by Nuffield. It has gotten progressively worse each year since then. Every repair is done cheaply and it shows. Equipment is old and some machines don't work well if at all.The Sauna/Steam room rarely work well either and again are tired and in poor condition. I quit my membership after 18 years this year as I finally gave up asking for things to be improved but oddly enough they are quick to phone you if you are late paying your fees. I now go to a contract free gym much nicer and cheaper

Negative experience: always something broken, sauna and steam room are out of order probably 50% of the time I visit... reminds me of fawlty towers... The latest ailment is that the handle on the door of the sauna has been hanging on by a thread, no handle on the inside of the door so you can pull it shut. For the past two weeks - come on guys - do you want me to bring a screwdriver down and sort it out???

Negative experience: I've been a member of Nuffield Health Bishops Stortford for the best part of 10 years and I have to say the place is looking really tired. Many of the machines are faulty e.g. rowing, bikes etc. The water fountains are mere trickles. Paper towels aren't refilled. There is always some sort of issue with either the sauna/jacuzzi/steam room. Staff are friendly, but most are focused on PT so don't expect anyone to come around and give you tips if you aren't exercising properly. The best thing about this place is the proximity to the station and town centre, apart from that it is very average. Their saving grace is that there is a clear lack of competition in Stortford from the likes of Virgin, David Lloyd etc. If any of them opened up here, I would have thought there would be a mass exodus!

Positive experience: Very well equipped gym and pool. Friendly staff. Gets quite busy but no trouble getting on the machines. Prices a bit steep though.

Negative experience: Very dirty facilities (steam room floor looks like it has never been cleaned, tiles marked with blue sports from water dripping from blue ceiling can only be due to never being cleaned over a very long time). You can write your name on the grime on the shower room tiles. Sauna door is so dirty you can see the scale as you look out. Hume equipment if faulty or worn takes an absolute age to be fixed even if reported. Reception staff mainly ok except for the one particularly anal young lady..... Computer says no/healthy and safety won't allow it kind. Management no better. Find somewhere else, take it from me well, my boyfriend, he's been a member there for 15yrs out of convenience but enough is enough, membership has been cancelled..

Positive experience: I went for a trial today. Very friendly and helpful staff. Facilities were modern and clean, the facility was much larger than you would have expected. Swimming pool was quite shallow, but other than this, I thought it was a fantastic centre.

Positive experience: Pleasant staff. Neat facilities. Loads of treadmills! Zumba classes and other classes body pump etc Swimming pool is full of kids between 3pm and 5pm! You pay £1 for towels.
