The hotel features:

- Value for money with competitive pricing, making it an option for travelers and contractors.
- Spacious rooms that, while dated, offer a comfortable place to rest after a long day.
While many guests appreciate the low rates and good service, there are areas that need attention:

Britannia Wigan Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: it's alright. due to virus no food available not there fault. theres a pub across the rd that's closed to but the town is located a five minute drive away. plenty there. overall a good hotel for what money u have to pay.
Positive experience: Hotel in a good location. Start with the important info first.....the bar closese at 10.15/10.30 on a Saturday night ♂️. The outside looks quite modern and up to date, but thats all. The rooms are from the 1970s/80s but you have new carpet. Good for an overnight stop, when you have had a drink or 6....
Fantastic experience: Nice day polite staff.
Negative experience: Not open and shabby as well.
Negative experience: Refugee hotel - Draw your own conclusions… Try the Premier Inn across the road as an alternative for your stay in Standish. Our community will make you very welcome Kind regards A from a local resident
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs, dirty, not maintained and looks like a scene from a zombie movie. Seems to be housing immigrants which in its self isn't a problem but it means it more like a hostel with constant noise and loutish behaviour. You won't get a good nights sleep and will be woken up early by the traffic and building site at the rear! The pictures online are laughable, the place looks nothing like them! Knock it down and start again!
Positive experience: Rooms are adequate. Clean and roomy. Staff are excellent. Food however was poor, I only stayed one evening so may have been a bad day.
Negative experience: You end up taller when you leave and the rodents wear docs
Negative experience: thread bear carpets, smells aweful ,clueless staff ,filthy rooms and to add to it evicted without notice because rented out to home office for more money . nobody gives a explanation of any kind more than you have to leave by 11am in morning . ring head office and get nothing! terrible company with the correct reputation from reviews.
Positive experience: Good service. The hotel is not maintained well with creaky floors and paint peeling off in the bathroom. The showers don't work very well
Negative experience: Left in my room all night without a pass key to get in and out of my room the bath was dirty and there was a dirty cup that hadn't been cleaned .
Negative experience: Stayed here July 2nd- 4th and was very disappointed. The Hotel had seemingly just opened on that day yet gardens were overgrown with weeds cigarette butts all over outside the entrance, windows were filthy, outside windowsills hadn’t seen a cloth in years.Beer was like warm soup, food was below average and rooms very dark dingy & dated. Staff were very nice & very efficient
Positive experience: Hotel been renovated rooms comfortable, food very nice and plenty of it. All staff very friendly restaurant staff especially. Just need outside facelift and it wlll be great Only downfall smokers congregate at enterance
Fantastic experience: Good food drinks warm cos just opened cellar coolers just turned on fantastic staff clean rooms
Negative experience: Arrived and booked in, to be told that there was only twin rooms left, I booked a double, which I told the chap on reception, his reply, a coach load came in yesterday and booked up all the doubles, so I replied I booked on the Thursday (this was Saturday), and the reply again was ‘well we only have a twin’. Tried to shrug that off, and went to the room, was clean (ish) but the smell was awful, like it hasn’t been used or open for years, very musty! We thought it’s only for one night, and got changed and went to the bar. We were told it was table service only, so find a seat and they will come to you (was told this as we booked in), so we sat down, and the ageing barman ignored us 3 times so husband went up towards the bar to be told ‘be with you in a minute’, so he sat back down to be ignored again!! That was the straw that broke the camels back…….we got up, asked for a refund, and packed up and left!! Avoid this hotel at all costs!! Oh……and no food on, only blister sandwiches and no cans of pop, was told there’s a garage up the road!!! Terrible!!!
Negative experience: More of a hovel then a hotel!I went here to study for a couple of nights due to noisy neighbours. I had tried to contact the hotel in advance to ensure I had a quiet room but received no response. When I asked the women at the desk could I have a quiet room got told its only what's allocated. Got to my room which was semi clean but still not good, I understand its budget but no excuse for poor cleanliness and lack of service. Room was dusty and humid, toilet didn't flush as ball and chain kept breaking till I fixed it. I was then told restaurant and pool both closed with no explination. This is fine if you wish not to open during covid but should be on your website as its false advertising. I then got kept up all night by lads in the next room shouting and playing music till 6am with no staff around to care. Wifi was also terrible! Was supposed to stay another night but checked out early take my advice and go to the Premier Inn across the Rd and and avoid this place at all costs!
Negative experience: Broken toilet seat and window, dirty bathroom floor, carpet torn, no drinking water in rooms, bed uncomfortable, whining noise from outside room, grounds unkept, filthy door handles throughout main areas, bar cloesed, definitely won't be returning !!!!!!!
Negative experience: Rooms dated and smell damp. And no running hot water. Bar wasn't open and neither was the spa and pool. Granted the room was cheap but still. Won't be returning
Negative experience: initial appearance is that it looks a little run down, the car park at the front is not maintained and the rear looks like the ruins of berut, insode every part of the wooden floor creaks like a it belongs in a hammer horror film, beds uncomfortable not suitable for princesses, rooms far too hot, water pressure very low, rooms are dated, bathroom have been modernised but I think they forgot the rest,or blew the budget, there is a TV in the room but it is small and has been there since 1992, mobile phone signal is also very dire so bring a satellite phone in case of emergencie dont get me started on the free WiFi I had speeds faster when I was on dial up, I did a speed test and reached 47kbps, all in all this is fine if you want a cheap bed for the night . the only saving grace was the staff member Aaron , was very helpful throughout my stay
Negative experience: I was charged for a booking I had made in error and had already cancelled. Yet two days later my bank account indicated s charge of £35 !!!
Negative experience: NIGHTMARE! My partner and I arrived late on Wednesday evening after travelling hours to start key work jobs. Upon arrival we were informed there was no hot water but an engineer was in his way to fix it. We were also at reception for at least half an hour because our booking.com reservation had not come through on their system. We were advised to cancel that booking and pay direct, but, I wasnt happy to do that. So, we paid 2 nights for cash and kept the reservation for 9 nights from the 29th January. (We had modified the booking through booking.com that morning from 27th instead of the from the 29th). 23:30 and huge banging commenced and after an hour of what could only be described as an earthquake, we came out of our rooms to discover two hotel porters trying to smash down a fire door down with hammers brute force and we were told a guest had locked his belongings in the room. 01:00. The room was freezing. No heating and still no hot water. I'm going through my menstrual cycle and desperately needed a shower. We were told the manager would be in at 07:00 and a cleaner would be in at 08:00 so that we could be transferred to a room in a part of the hotel that was being heated by a separate heating system. Also, we had 2 single beds pushed together so it was really uncomfortable. The manager turned up at 08:30 and I approached her regarding our being moved to another room. Siobhan was aggressively defensive using sharp arm movements stating that the boiler system was put if their control, they couldn't move us to another room and we would not get a refund for the horrendous night we had!!!! I was almost in tears because not only had we travelled for hours to start work as keyworkers, I needed a shower and we had no-where to live! Siobhan said she was contacting head office for a refund for the night we were DEFINITELY not going to stay. After losing my cool and raising my voice in distress and incredulous disbelief, my partner and I walked over to the Premier Inn opposite and as we had gone over the previous evening to ensure they had availability, we booked in there. We were given a full refund. No apology. Billy and Aaron were good lads and we left them a tip for working under terrible conditions and under a terrible manager. They did get a room cleaned so that I could finally have a shower so although a good send off, not an ounce of a saving grace for a terrible stay.
Negative experience: Rm was clean, water was hot but no food was available. The plumbing gives an incessant tapping all night long so dont expect any sleep.
Positive experience: Second time Ive stayed there and it was OK. Staff were very nice and the room for ok. Only complaint I guess was that it was a little cold and I don't thijk the heating was on when I turned up the thermostat. However it was quite warm this morning. Free parking is a real boon and 24 hour front desk.
Negative experience: Awful, walked into the room and it stunk of weed, walked straight back out only gave us 50% refund and still fighting for the rest of the money back, its a dirty out dated Horrible place, i would rather sleep in my car
Negative experience: Disgusting walls and rude staff. Very run down and they refused to deal with a noisy neighbor
Fantastic experience: Hotel is a little dilapidated, however the room was clean and the staff were very good. What do you expect for 30 quid?
Negative experience: Appalling and unprofessional attitude from the receptionist/duty manager. Hotel looks abandoned from the outside As I live locally, pre-Covid I regularly used the pool in the leisure centre. I was on a walk with my wife and, as we were passing, I decided to pop in and enquire as to when it would reopen. On approaching the front entrance, many negatives became apparent. Garden areas and planters full of dead plants or overgry with weeds and was a large dumpster-style bin open at the front door. My first thoughts questioned if it was even open again until I say the great and many Covid warning signs plastering the from automatic doors. Very welcoming so far. Upon entry I noticed three women in the lobby eating lunch. I thought they were guests until one (who's badge read Sian) actually came round to the reception desk. I asked Sian politely if the Leisure centre was open yet and if not, when would it be? Had it not been her response I honestly would not be writing this review. She said 'I have no idea. No-one tells me anything around here'. A little taken aback by her abrupt and unprofessional response a simple query, I left immediately. I later found out that she was the duty manager for the hotel and if this is how she responds to the public making a simple enquiry I question how she responds to paying guests. Given that that there were three cars in the car-park and the staff are having lunch in the lobby suggests that they had precious little else to do. As a customer service manager for over twenty-five years for three national companies and two global brands, I would have accepted a response of 'Sorry, not yet, but our website will give you details of when it's opening/I can take your number and contact you when we know more' in response to such a basic inquiry from a member of the public. Honestly, Britannia, this is poor. It's very, very poor. If you've any hope of rebuilding your trade post-covid, I suggest you read the reviews on this site and act accordingly.
Negative experience: Booked 4 rooms for overnight stay whilst travelling between Inverness and Brighton. Should have carried on after seeing how run down, dilapidated and overgrown it was on the outside. Rooms smelt of stale cigarettes, sinks blocked, toilet stained, bedlinen dirty, net curtains filthy, furniture had evidence of food crumbs and windowsills had dead flies and dust. Public areas i.e: stairs/doors/lobby/floors clearly had not been cleaned- overall very shocking especially at this current time during Coronavirus pandemic. Serious risk to public health and no duty of care from Britannia Hotels to either customers or their staff. Shameful.
Negative experience: We had two nights stay, the first night was very noisy, doors banging people knocking on doors, moving around the corrodors and talking loudly. We had a twin room which was fine, beds were a bit hard but the bedding was nice and clean. The reception staff where nice and apologised for the first night.we didn't view the whole hotel, but it was adequate for a budget hotel! Great price! Would stay again :)
Fantastic experience: We are milkman and this hotel as done us proud.from the cleaners too the managers top staff. Recommend this place to anyone
Negative experience: One of the worst hotels i have been in. The beds are awful. There was somebody elses rubbish underneath the bed and the shower was dirty.
Positive experience: Noisy traffic even with windows closed and very outdated furniture but good staff on hand with some updated furniture and double glazed windows would be a nice hotel
Negative experience: Dated property, with a complete lack of cleanliness. Bed sheets burnt with cigarette marks, curtains falling down. Just appalling!!! One level below a hostel.
Positive experience: Nice place, bathroom could do with being a bit better, but on the whole good
Negative experience: Dreadful place. My parents stayed here. Horrible, dated, not very clean. When the virus struck it was quick to sack its workers and kick them out of their rooms. They should knock it down and build affordable housing on it. This offers nothing to the community and I always feel sorry for the coach parties forces to stop there.
Positive experience: Run down and unloved from outside. Did not improve inside. Looks like an unlocked workings mens club. Mainly contractors stay here as it is cheap. I don't mind scruffy but basic cleaning is a must. No evidence of dusting or wiping of surfaces even during a pandemic. Very creaky floors in room and corridors can affect enjoyment. Pictures on website a few decades old. OK for cheap stay while away working. I can ignore dust and stains but would not allow my family to stay here.
Negative experience: Dirty, run down, hair coming out of the bath plug, sink dirty. My double bed was two twin beds put together not worth the money. If you get it for £20 a night then it would be ok
Positive experience: Standard cheap hotel but they let you take your dog in which is great
Negative experience: On entering into the reception area noticed the carpet dirty & grubby. Booked ourselves in & after walking through double doors we came upon a gym before turning right towards our room. The smell of cannabis was overwhelming & got worse as we went nearer to our room. Went to reception to I from them of this & also to request towels and we had 1 hand towel & 1 bath towel for 2 adults. Girl on reception apologised but offered no alternative or suggestion to rectify the cannabis problem. The bathroom is in desperate need of refurbishment & definitely a good clean !!!! Pubic hairs on bath,in bath & on the toilet. The room, hotel in general is grubby. We unfortunately had to stay a second might as we had personal reasons to be in the area & was shocked to find out the smell of cannabis was even worse on arriving back at hotel for @ 6pm & realised the the occupants were in the room opposite ours & they continued to leave back & forth from their room with a loud banging door late into the night. Thought that if we informed staff of situation that something would be done but NOTHING !!!!
Negative experience: Highly functional. Most things you would need but dated atmosphere and surroundings.
Positive experience: Somewhat shabby hotel, but v.good price and excellent meals. Would not hesitate to stay again. Left a hard drive in room, rang and arranged to pick up on late night drive two days later. It was wrapped and ready at 2am for me. Staff excellent.
Negative experience: Awful Staff weren’t at all hospitable, the room was not what was expected and bathroom was dirty. Worth spending more to find a better place.
Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, the staff was very friendly, thanks
Positive experience: Food not too good and someone had been smoking in the bedroom as the smell was in all the fabric and soft furnishings. Otherwise it was fine
Negative experience: I wish I'd stayed home. Coming to visit the family of my other half should've been a rather simple procedure. Sure, I didn't pay much for the hotel, so I wasn't expecting top of the line stuff. However, what I did get was no less than an absolute *#*%show. Let's start at the beginning. Walking into the hotel from the cold was a welcome experience, as was check in. Nice, easy, simple. We get to our room and I'm sure an igloo caught in a blizzard would be warmer. Shrugging it off and turning on the heating I didn't think much of it. So I turned my attention to getting into bed for a well deserved rest. Or at least that's what I thought I'd be doing. Aside from falling between the two single mattresses and the room neighbours throwing what sounds like bricks at 4 in the morning was the start of what was due to be an absolute nightmare. Getting up from a sleepless night, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and went about my day. Getting back at the hotel was another step in the wrong direction as upon returning to the room, we heard even more yelling and screaming going from 6pm until the early hours of the morning along with the sound of police sirens ensuring this was going to be another sleepless night. Thinking enough was enough I went downstairs at 3 in the morning and demanded a room change. Which I must admit the staff were all too happy to provide. Moving everything to the second roon wasn't too much hassle,, however it soon came to my attention that we were now lacking in hot water, so cold showers in the middle of December it is then. Other than that,, the room was nice. The only other issues we encountered during our 4 night stay was dogs running up and down the hall barking, and other guests trying to gain access to my room. I would say you get what you pay for, but if you're thinking about staying here you'd be better off asking them to pay you.
Positive experience: The hotel ok but the television could be better as the size of picture could be alot bigger. The mens toilet near reception needs a dam good clean especially the walls and floor in corners.
Negative experience: In desperate need of renovation/update. Staff are very good. Food mostly ok, but tonight I went to the pub because the menu was dreadful. Pasta, gammon steak which was only fit for renewing the soles of my shoes, and cod goujouns. WTF. Pity because the previous night was really nice.
Positive experience: Function room good besides finding a spider in my empty wine glass when I got a bottle which was horrendous because I hate spiders. Good size function room, nice bar staff. Stayed there most of the night. Boyfriend has to purchase a room so we could get a few bottles of wine in the actual hotel bar which was scandalous.
Negative experience: On plus side ,Very cheap beer ,but unfortunately the rooms were not cleaned, too many hairs in the bathroom we even found underwear left on the floor (not ours)
Fantastic experience: Business mens evening meal, staff charming and professional, food was very good, excellent service in every aspect.
Negative experience: Hotel is tired and in need of an update staff friendly and helpful food was good but the bathroom was in a desperate need for a overall taps were stiff and would not turn on flooring had lifted due to a water leak only left 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel told reception and they were very swift in getting more to us beds comfortable gave one star as would not want to stop more than one night
Negative experience: Website says restaurant open every day for lunch and dinner. Brochure in guests rooms says restaurant open every day for lunch and dinner. This is a lie! Restaurant is open for breakfast only. Staff said restaurant only open for dinner if "We have coach parties in." This despite the hotel being busy. Stay at the Premier Inn opposite. They don't lie to their customers and the attached pub does serve dinner every day. Their breakfast is cheaper, too.
Positive experience: Value for money. Bit dated and in need of a facelift but worth what l paid for the room. Full of contractors. Nice pub over the road for inexpensive meals. Staff helpful and willing to please. Bed for the night whilst working away. Get here early to find a space in the car park as it is full of white vans most evenings.
Negative experience: Arrived after a long day travelling with a late flight, numerous trains and a taxi to get to what I would call a shambles of a hotel. We were grated at around 1am by a lovely staff member working the front desk who was by far the best thing about the entire catastrophe. We booked in and headed to our room via the elevator. If your not a fan of elevators I wouldn’t go in. I swear I thought it would drop at any minute, it made a massive thud when it reached the floor we needed. When we got to our room we were surprised to see a sofa and two armchairs as well as a “king size bed” we may as well of been on a wooden plank as it would have been more comfortable. You couldn’t move a hair without loud noises coming from the bed, not only that but it was two single beds pushed together to make a double bed. I’ve seen this in other hotels I know it’s common, but when the two single beds both have a hard side wooden frame now stuck in the middle of what is by the “duty manager” accord a king size bed it makes it just a tad more uncomfortable. After trying to make a bad situation good we knew not much could be done from the time it was. We came across holes and large noticeable marks along the walls with the bathroom light near blowing up in my partners face, and the toilet not flushing while heading to what would be a tortuous night of sleep. Half an hour went past when I’d had enough there was no way anyone should sleep on what they call a normal bed. I headed to Reception to speak to someone and was told by the lovely woman worker that checked us in that they don’t offer any other sort of bed other than what we got and that if we want she could offer us a refund. We were staying for two nights as we arrived early Saturday morning at 1am so we couldn’t find another hotel to take us as of the time. She was very apologetic and I felt as if she understood my stress and anger of the situation. She took down all my complicates and made sure that I would be contacted by either the manager himself or the duty manager working that day. After finally getting some sleep we woke up to no word of any managers. We waited it out till around 11am and went to reception to ask to speak to the manager where we were greeted by what was supposedly the duty manager. I explained we were meant to be contacted by a manager about our complaints from the night/early morning before and were told that we would be offered a refund on our next night we were meant to be staying. She very appropriately stopped me by talking over me telling me I was told wrong and that we were not getting a refund on anything and that our room was put at a “discounted rate just for us” apparently being a “suite” after a slightly heated argument I was given the email of the manager and was told to contact him directly if I wished to take it any further. After being quite rudely spoke to my a “duty manager” we were told that we would need to be “packed up and gone” by 12:30 as that was check out. I completely understood it was the time of check out but felt it was but across in a very narcissistic way. After rushing to find somewhere else to stay we find a room in the holiday inn which is what I would call heaven on earth. We went to hand in our key card and was told she had spoke to her manager and he gave her a code for a refund on the second night we were meant to be staying. I found out that the claims of “free WiFi” is only available in the lobby and if you want to bring pets or use the pool it’s an extra charge which wasn’t clearly advertised at all. Definitely wouldn’t go near such a place again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Spend a few more quid on a hotel that cares and knows what customer service is.
Positive experience: Been passed it in car looks okay from out side for an over night stay
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff that where great and being a smoker you can smoke in the room
Negative experience: Low cost, no frills, very basic.
Fantastic experience: Lovely receptionist checked us in dark hair n glasses was a pleasure the room is big and beer went down well after work cheers
Negative experience: Dirty bathroom, which was not cleaned by staff curly black hairs in bath ripped duvet covers, carpet stained dead spiders in corners of room
Positive experience: Nice staff Gorgeous Rooms Very affordable
Fantastic experience: staff very friendly enjoy sauna and jacuzzi food lovely thanks to cheff and thank you to all staff we enjoyed our stay we will come again
Negative experience: Awful hotel smelly and dirty even after a change of room ... Very disappointed as it was a gift including a visit to Liverpool with National Holidays NEVER again
Positive experience: Expensive compared to other barbers that are close by. You do get a decent hair cut if your prepared to wait a while
Negative experience: AVOID AVOID AVOID Overnight stay with National Holidays with my Daughter and Two Granddaughters (one aged 16, one aged 5.) First room allocated to us was unsuitable as had a double bed and bunk beds and was in the part of the hotel which was very very hot and humid. Changed to 2 twin rooms but unfortunately one had no bedding or bath towels so had to wait for these to be provided. Food was overcooked so missed evening meal and went to the Hungry Horse across the road instead. Breakfast was also overcooked. Resteraunt staff not very obliging. Hotel not very clean
Negative experience: Needs up dated windows won't shut on ground floor ripe pickings for burglers
Negative experience: Stayed last weekend, staff friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, lacked in cleanliness and toilet didn't flush properly. Overall hotel had tired decor, breakfast limited choice, cooked breakfast was cremated and machine drinks not great.
Positive experience: Value hotel. Had a stop over here, enjoyed using the pool and sauna before hitting the road.
Negative experience: Hard beds, could do with a good clean. We couldn't eat in the restaurant because there was a coach in, which they knew about and there wouldn't be enough food, there was only two of us, so we were sent over the road to a pub. Staff not very helpful.
Fantastic experience: A good budget hotel. The building and surrounds are tired and dated. It is not luxury. Do not book here if you want something shiny. If you expect a 5 start experience for this price you will be very disappointed. If you expect a budget 3 star experience for a budget 3 star price you will be happy
Positive experience: cheap clean hotel so out dated.breafast was good.on arrival was signed in no leaflet no communication about the hotel had to find were eating area was bar had no cans off coke for drink u had to go to reception for one.
Negative experience: We stayed in room 208 and the temperature was beyond hot (33 degree C) The problem is that the heating and pipes for the swimming pool water runs under the floor which made our room extremely hot. The heat made for a very uncomfortable sleep. The staff were friendly, attentive and fetched us a fan after we complained on the second day..., however the temperature only dropped to 28 degrees, because you cannot open the windows to let the heat escape. The bath/shower was clean, but it only had 2 options, scolding or cold. I opted for cold and stood in the hot room to dry... no towel needed as the heat dried me in seconds (no joke the room is like a sauna) There was something very dodgy on one of the lamp shades, looked liked dried blood. (Judge for yourself, I took a picture) Also, the wiring for the room was exposed and was hastily covered up with a bedside table, I'm fairly certain this is a building regulation violation but meh if the place goes up in flames it might actually be cooler... If you want to experience Britannia Wigan Hotel, simply sleep in your oven at home. Still it was only £40 a night.
Positive experience: Very friendly staff, quite outdated decor and rooms but good value for money
Negative experience: Arrived at 6pm as part of a coach party, food was dry and tasteless and to drink the choice was tea, coffee or water, no soft drinks or juice available unless you brought it from the bar, bedroom was basic with 2 towels for 4 of us so had to ask for more, the bunk beds were very rickety and not comfortable ,breakfast was however not bad but the mushrooms and scrambled eggs were tasteless
Negative experience: Worse hotel ever stayed in, food was terrible
Negative experience: Didn't dislike it, can't go wrong at forty quid for the night, big rooms, WiFi n TV can be iffy, place is just tired and needs money spending, grounds are awful, weedseverywhere, staff are neither here nor there, disinterested at best, watchtge bar prices as they change constantly
Fantastic experience: Had a great time yet again we use this hotel to go racing at Chester and Haycock
Negative experience: Had creaking pipes and the sound of dripping in my room from 6 am, reported to the front desk on leaving but they didn't seem interested. Also their was little to no wife signal in my room and it also blocked both my own data being used and my phone had no signal so was on emergency calls only. Room itself was lovely and the evening receptionist was very helpful as I arrived after the restaurant closed and she explained where to eat locally or that they accepted takeaway deliveries to the front desk to eat in your room. Easy parking which was free.
Positive experience: Nice hotel room very nice large plenty of space food and bars really good staff very helpful and professional
Negative experience: Unfortunately we cancelled our booking after seeing the room!
Negative experience: Dont waste your money going here, if I could give lower than 1 star I would.
Positive experience: The rooms arnt that nice to look at but have some really good memories
Negative experience: Disgusting rooms dirty and under manager is not in the right job
Negative experience: Filthy hotel. Pet hair on ‘clean’ bed sheets. Fluff and pubic hair in corners of the bathroom. Shavings of someone’s beard behind the sink. Had pet hair all over my socks from the dirty carpet. Old and dated. Needs burning down!
Negative experience: Poo on the floor. If someone is alergic to dogs or animals in general I recommend staying for a week and think of a ways to die.
Negative experience: Expensive. £94 for one night with no breakfast. Told gym and pool shut at 5:30 on Saturday evening so we couldn't use it as at my brother's 50th birthday celebration in afternoon. Water poured down wall using shower, bath water ran so slow and loudly that a bath wasn't an option either. Grille missing from hand wash basin so if I'd dropped anything smaller than a golf ball it would have gone down drain.
Positive experience: Wigan, as a place has very limited activities and Britannia hotel is probably one reasonable option to stay near wrightington hospital. Building is quite old and needs a total revamp.
Negative experience: Friendly receptionist and catering staff made to feel welcome ,however my husband and I couldn't sleep in one of the single beds they put together to make a large double so my husband got the uncomfortable bed on the second night after I got no sleep .we left home one night early for a comfortable bed.bathroom had not been cleaned properly in months , shame as staff could all do better for them selves.
Negative experience: Awful place. DO NOT STAY HERE. I'm sure they have bed mites too. Very uncomfortable beds and very loud and outdated.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic, they don't try to charge you for extra work that doesn't need doing. They tell you exactly what's wrong and charge a decent price.
Fantastic experience: I work here so im a little biased but the staff are Amazing, we work hard to please the customers and to fix any issues that may arise during your stay, i hope you look past the fact i work here and give us a try im sure you will be happy with your stay, we also have a leisure facility for a small charge, hope this has helped :-)
Negative experience: Had some problems with lights and cleanliness but it was ok
Positive experience: Hotel and staff was great but had bad back as the bed was really hard good do with new mattress
Positive experience: Love the hotel. Very modern and extremely clean . The staff were warm and friendly. We only stayed one night but would recommend a second visit
Positive experience: Another Britannia hotel. Needs updating showing age. Some in our bus party went to carvery at pub over the road as they did not like what was on offer. Breakfast OK.
Fantastic experience: Was alright for a one night stay.. Pool area is not as clean though and it's not included in the room booking.. staff were friendly to accommodate room changes during last minute without charging us extra.. WiFi signal was not strong and the mobile signal was pretty poor as well..
Negative experience: Wallpaper peeling and room smells mouldy. The double bed was just two singles. No Wi-Fi in the rooms. Bed sheets and towels were old and thin. I won't be coming back.
Positive experience: This hotel needs a revamp as it has tired looking
Positive experience: Great food and staff were pleasant and helpful. The only downside was the bathroom which needs TLC and perhaps a deeper clean. The rooms were clean and sheets fresh. Would stay again and great value for money.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, basic menu, we use it as a stop over on our drive from Devon to Perth.
Positive experience: I always thought the Britannia Hotels were a bit of a posh place to stay. Turns out this one isn't. But for the pricetag of £39 a night you shouldn't really expect much. The bed itself was pretty poor, I did get a fairly good kip on it though. The TV didn't work... There was wallpaper peeling off by the bedroom door... There looked like there was a hole in the bath, good job I had a shower... If you want to buy any drinks at the bar with your card you need to order, go to reception, pay there then take the receipt back to the bar... I think the price definitely reflects the quality of room. I just needed to go to sleep and that's what I did.
