Royal Court Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: Beautiful as you walk in the hotel, but our rooms were not very good and very dated, some of the rooms near reception were noisy. Lovely gardens for a wedding, Had a meal in the hotel, not the best, frozen roast potatoes and beef bourginiontssted like tinned beef but the gammon was lovely , puddings seemed to start off with good selection but then went down to just 1 selection so others not replaced, lovely helpful waiter out of kitchen though and we had early seating.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to stay, great staff. It's definitely worth a visit.
Negative experience: We have recently returned from a stay at Royal Court Hotel Coventry, never again!! We arrived at the hotel on 7th March at approximately 7pm. We had been driving for 10 hours to get there as we live in the Highlands and we were very tired and were looking forward to relaxing in the superior double room I had booked for two nights. We walked through the pervading smell of weed outside the entrance and went to reception to check in where we were met by a very sullen young person on reception. No welcome, no eye contact, nothing, in fact she was bordering on being quite rude. We went to find our room. On entry we were hit by the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke, both the windows had been left wide open to hide the smell but both my husband and I started coughing. My husband suffers with chronic asthma and it became immediately clear we could not stay in that room. I went back to reception and asked to be moved. We were givena key to another room. On exiting I also noticed that the sink in the bathroom had a huge cracked across it! We went to our new room and wanted to watch tv for a while. My husband had to go back to reception 3 times before a remote control that worked was found. The room was not particularly clean, there were stains up the walls and the previous dogs dribble and marks on the mirrored wardrobes were still there. the bathroom had various human pubic hairs over the sides of the vanity unit! We were disgusted! It was filthy. There was cobwebs and black dust around the toilet, the beading on the wood was covered in dead skin and hair which had accumulated over time. The bathroom door was filthy and the whole room was in a state of disrepair with tiles missing, wooden veneer warped and bits broken off and missing. I cleaned the sides myself and decided to have a shower and go to bed as we were exhausted and I couldn't face going down the hall back to reception to speak to the unfriendly girl again. We decided we'd speak to somebody in the morning about the issues. The water from the shower flooded the bathroom floor despite my efforts to tuck the shower curtain into the bath but as the framework was split and broken the curtain just hung there. The water disappeared into a hole in the wall where the tiles had disintegrated and the rest of the water had to be soaked up with the towels as it was extremely slippery and dangerous. We got into bed hoping for a good night sleep. As we were dropping off the residents in the next room decided to run a bath. It was so loud it was as if the bath was in the room with us. The noise was unbelievable. The heavy fire doors on the rooms slammed shut until late as people came and went. It was a very disturbed night. We got up at 5am to leave for our dog show and because we were on such a tight schedule we didn't have time to wait for somebody to appear at reception to raise the issues about our room, so we decided to speak to somebody when we got back. On our return, we spoke to Yanish who was very sympathetic and very helpful. He asked us to leave it with him so we went and changed for dinner. He found us later and offered us another room upstairs but as my husband is unable to walk upstairs because if his chronic asthma we declined his offer. We were leaving the next morning and didn't want to pack up to move to another room for a third time. We decided to put up with what we had and asked Yanish if we could have some money refunded. As he could only offer us 10% he gave us the contact details for the customer services and said he'd support our complaint. We were relieved to pack up the next day and leave the hotel. I can't tell you how disappointed and angry we are. The room for two nights wasn't cheap and we'd travelled a long way to stay at that hotel. I have taken pictures of everything we encountered. We feel that the rooms were misrepresented and that we have been misled and sold a room which does not match up to what is being advertised. I cannot express how disgusted we were at the level of filth we experienced. Don't bother going there!!
Positive experience: Just spent 3 nights there.Rooms are a bit dated but clean and tidy. Staff are pleasant.Reasonable priced drinks in bar and a 3 course meal in the evening for only £12.50. You can't go wrong with this place.
Negative experience: Dreadful. Sadly wont stay here again. I had read the reviews and saw the website and I got the impression that it was an old failed hotel trying to do better. I know it was a budget price but with the pool etc I thought that the price reflected it trying to work towards better reviews, but sadly no, it is just cheap....so I feel foolish. I will explain... On arrival it is tatty, but also looks like and effort has been made. They need to do lines int he carpark. There is lots of parking but its still stressful as people park with tonns of space between making you worry there wont be enough space. The fore ground is nice, so clearly they only try to work hard for events. Look out the other side of the hotel and its a messy dump with junk laying around. The staff are suited and nice enough but I cant imagine how they keep moral up there with what is offered there. I booked purely so I cold use the pool at the end of the long day at Crufts. But it was always closed "due to maintenance" every evening and when i said something I was always told "it was open during the day!" what use is that when you dont hang round the hotel all day! And you wouldnt want to hang round this one! You also have to pay extra for the spa, they didnt tell me in advance that this was a daily issue....had I have booked the weeks entry, I would be furious! Room was big, but yet had a tiny shower! The type you get in a caravan. No holder for soap etc so you had to hold it whilst trying to clean. There was no space to bend over to put it on the floor and I am only a small size 8 person! No hook to hang the towel either! And whilst it was mostly clean there is a random step in the bathroom that had plenty of hair on it so that had not been cleaned....If there moved the wall in there the bathroom would be amazing and just a bit of thought would be nice...if only a staff member took a shower there they would soon know! Rooms had no decaff tea....only decaff coffee and Im very bored of having to ask for decaff tea when decaff coffee is always offered....they had no decaff breakfast tea in the whole hotel so I had to go and get some. I think its pretty basic to be honest. I will give some praise...the room was warm enough and the bed was comfy. Food. Aweful. I did the dinner bed and breakfast option. It was buffett which was great as I wanted food fast.... but it was awful. School dinner level. I know how much school dinner costs so there was no bargain to be had on the food for you, its shocking. Frozen veg!! Who uses frozen veg in a professional establishment these days! Food ran out my first day. Luckily that didnt happen again. Again, I applaud that the salad bar was actually nice, though not always an option I could eat. It was fresh. The main courses were very cheap food. It did improve as the days passed, or maybe my expectations lowered, but even Jamie Oliver made cheap school dinners nice, and dessert selections are just like Iceland frozen gateuxs and cut into tiny portions... Breakfast was ok. Bit bland, but it was the best part of the stay. I couldn't bring myself to ask if the eggs were free range. But they start breakfast later on the weekend so everyone is queuing to get in and done and to the event...I think the hotel should do a bit of research and open it early when there is an event that most of the residents are all attending...would 1 hour be the end of the world to make it a better guest experience? I wanted this hotel to be great as its a very grand old building and its massive and the lobby looks impressive. I am regularly up at the NEC and wanted a new hotel to be a great base....this is not it. Which is a shame. It is very convenient from the NED as only 18 mins drive to get there...
Positive experience: Decent stay. Would go again. Request to stay in the newer building where ut warner. Good value for money. Nice and polite staff. Good facilties and local amenities.
Fantastic experience: Went this weekend for a poker festival. Stayed all weekend at the hotel & the rooms were lovely & clean, bed was very comfortable. Staff very friendly too. Breakfast was buffet style & I couldn't fault it at all. Lots off choice. Didn't eat anything else in the main restaurant but had a couple of bar meals that were nice. Outside is pleasant too with a lovely seating area looking over the grounds. Overall a lovely hotel
Fantastic experience: So far everything looks good, but when they're busy you probably cannot find a space for your car, because there the car park isn't marked and that's why some people are leaving their cars how they can at that time
Fantastic experience: Nice room except eave of roof easy to hit your head which i done no sign to say beware. Quilt not big enough for size of bed. Couldn't shower as I couldn't get in bath.
Fantastic experience: This is a lovely hotel. Clean and spacious. Food is ok, don’t expect too much and you’ll be ok. The grounds are lovely. Staff are helpful and friendly. Our sink in the room was blocked and reported each day of our stay (3) but it was not unblocked, we were told that maintenance didn’t work on those days. Very bad I think. Rooms are not cleaned daily. So you need towels and hot drink top ups then reception will gladly supply. They hold functions here and people were filling the reception area but something needs to be sorted for H&S as guests found this difficult to pass with drinks to go to their rooms. It needs a keep clear gangway. A few teething problems but hopefully they will take note of people’s reviews and rectify them
Positive experience: I love this place! I highly recommend this hotel for a short stay in Coventry. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for a comfortable, relaxing spot with a beautiful view to unwind over the weekend. While I didn’t try the food or drinks, I truly enjoyed the atmosphere. Plus, it’s affordable and conveniently located, making it an excellent option for a hassle-free getaway.
Positive experience: It served my purpose. I had to ask for a toilet roll. They said rooms cleaned every 4 days, more like every 4 weeks. I bought my own toilet roll in the end. I had to ask for fresh towels and fresh bed linen. Not great.
Positive experience: Room nice except for bathroom sink was blocked was reported and was not put right. Food was ok but opening times 2 out of 3 nights restaurant wasn't ready to open
Fantastic experience: Had a wonderful stay . The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the facilities were excellent, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. Highly recommend…
Positive experience: Room shabby and damp peeling paint on wall. Receptionist couldn't have been less welcoming. Constant doors slamming. Not a great experience.
Fantastic experience: I love this place its my happy place, nice gym swimming pool, jacuzzi steam room sauna, sunbed. and the staff, are lovely people, so welcoming and friendly
Fantastic experience: 5 stars is for Katarzyna, who went above and beyond to find and return lost property to me. Great service. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: I had made the trip for London to the royal court Hotel as I was on a training course for work situated in Solihull and due to prices we decided to stay a little further out. I actually could not fault the service by all staff I encountered during my stay. I would like to highlight some excellent service by the housekeeping staff Kate and her team were incredibly helpful I realised on my route home that I was missing my apple AirPods, for someone like me who suffers with anxiety and finds traveling stressful without my AirPods it was devastating. I called the hotel the next day and spoke to Kate who confirmed they had been handed in, she was kind enough to take my number so I could forward her my address and posted them the same day, I cannot thank Kate and her staff enough for the help they gave me.
Fantastic experience: A really good value stay in what I can describe as a bit of British heritage nestled in Coventry. Royal Court Hotel Coventry must have been the place to be in it's day with grand conference rooms and halls. It is a really nice thatch cottage style building with a larger new wing built on extension. My only negative is if you occasionally suffer from allergies like me the rooms carpet could do with a clean. If you can excuse the above I had a pretty flawless stay for a short notice on peak short stay booking. 5 stars well deserved!!! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Fantastic experience: Honest review: Dated for two nights having just stayed at the hilton hampton in Sheffield and honestly superior room we have is amazing. Really great value for money. We ventured to the restaurant on Saturday but it was so busy we decided not to. Also the bar was immensely busy but there were events on. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely amazing, couldn't fault. And the chap who checked us in was a really lovely guy. No for the down side: Doors Constantly banging in the hallway and yes we know it's the staff as we can hear them and I also know they have a job to do. But when your shattered from working and travelling all week and you get a lie in on one day, and it's interrupted by perpetual banging doors it's definitely frustrating. The lift is terrifying as it rattles so muxh you think you're going to fall Overall though, truly fabulous place that doesn't deserve the rubbish rating it gets. Will definitely be back
Negative experience: Just come back from here. One night entertainment was great Tina Turner Tribute!! As to the cold hotel, dated, run down, expensive drinks, worst nights sleep we have ever had!! Lumpy 2 singles put crossways to make a king size! Horrendous!! Heating on at 6pm!! Food worse than school. Fantastic looking place but very scruffy inside!! Never again!!
Negative experience: I was allocated a room which stank of cigarette smoke this nessitated a return to reception. Another room was provided which had been refurbished this room was cosey with a large TV. Had to get three replacement key cards which was a real pain. The hotel lacked atmosphere so I did stop in the bar and ate elsewhere. Good value but a lot whole on the drive didn't do my car any good. Would I stop here again no.
Fantastic experience: I've stayed here previously and since then there has been a refurbishment program. It's been transformed both in the public areas and the rooms. I had an executive double room which was really spacious, perfectly clean and with a very warm and stylish decor. The service is absolutely excellent, Baljt the manager is such a friendly and helpful person. Highly recommended, great value and a really good experience all round.
Negative experience: The chef serving the meat on the carvery seriously needs to mind his business making very patronising judgemental remarks to me about what I did for work. Not sure what business it is of his what I do for work. He didn’t seem to be talking to anybody else in this manner I felt very singled out. Left me feeling very uncomfortable & I actually cut my trip short as I didn’t feel comfortable dining there anymore. Very helpful kind manager though & lovely rooms. Just a shame your staff have to let you down & make guests feel like this.
Fantastic experience: Lovely setting, basic but nice rooms, food good, entertainment fab
Positive experience: Hotel was as expected from a Britannia hotel just needed a little love to be brought up to date beautiful building in beautiful grounds staff were helpful but the que for the bar was a little frustrating, I enjoyed the food, the pool and sauna were lovely, Elvis tribute was fantastic very entertaining, and a big thank you to the housekeeping staff who did a fabulous job with a smile ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ clean room and bathroom with crisp clean white sheets and towels.
Fantastic experience: Granted there is a lot off bad reviews about this place but from my own personal experience staying here all of last week the value for money is unbelievable.. Your not paying for the Hilton so you should have relevant expectations. First of all the staff are beautiful people and the service throughout the hotel and health club was top class.. any minor issues in my week were dealt with immediately and in a very professional manner.. The gym is decent.. full body work out no problem and the health club was ten pound for an all access week pass.. class! The steam room is up there with the best I have been in anywhere.. The location off the hotel was right up my street also.. 5 minutes Uber from the city centre but hidden away on the outskirts off the city with lovely woodland walks all around.. very peaceful in and around the hotel. The breakfast buffet was also great value for money and always loaded with options even at the end off service.. My only negative would be to avoid the dinner food.. as much as the service was again great the food was diabolical however the reception team will point you in the direction off nice restaurants that won’t be much difference in paying for the hotel food. If I ever need to stay in Coventry again there’s no doubt this will be my house!
Negative experience: Went there for afternoon tea, don’t bother. Treat you badly and don’t care. First off food was stale, and put us where the swimming pool was at the start expecting us to have our afternoon tea there. Treated us like second class citizens, prioritising a beefing before us. Fork and knife had dust on it, and made us wait for a long time. Go to coome abbey if you want a nice afternoon tea, not this place. Don’t recommend.
Negative experience: Husband wife and daughter. Went on a caladonian trip - hotel was pretty good and food was great unfortunately on the first night we arrived we went for evening meal I had one inch of an half of lager, 10 minutes later I started feeling confused and sick. I ended up being in A&E after being in spiked. I emailed Brittania a few days later but got n response . I was very poorly - and would not like that to happen to me ever again . The rest of the trips was pretty good - even tho I felt groggy
Fantastic experience: Stayed here for 2 nights just after Christmas, excellent hotel, clean, lovely decor, lovely staff, gorgeous food, would love to come back.
Fantastic experience: We had the most wonderful 3 day stay here over New years! The food was absolutely incredible fresh flavours and the best roast we have ever had. The staff was outstanding professional cheerful and always ready to help. The location itself is beautiful though it could use a little tlc in some areas. Overall, we had an amazing time and can wait to return in the summertime!
Negative experience: Awful. Firstly I locked our door and when I returned after ten minutes by chance as I forgot something our door had been left wide open by a cleaner who was on the next floor and had left our door wide open with all our belongings in the room. When questioned she denied this. I was also disturbed whilst asleep at 12am at night by the fire alarm going off in our room and the room opposite only. The pillows were also uncomfortable and we had to sleep without them. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. The spa was also in a really poor condition and there was excessive amount of water collected on the floor of the sauna and in the spa itself. We were also charged a separate £8 to use the spa despite being guests for two nights this isn’t the case in any other hotel I’ve stayed at. Not to mention the stench in the steam room. The dinner was also very poor and very basic with no taste whatsoever.
Fantastic experience: Perfect for a great stay. The staff are very friendly and polite nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are spotless and the food is spot on, would visit again, without a doubt.
Negative experience: Arrived 3 30pm no heating rooms freezing, heating is put o at 5.30 to 11.00 and in the day 7.00am to 10.30 God help us all on Christmas day. No blankets single duvet on a double bed, only 45 mins to eat your meals as 5 coaches in and a small dining room our breakfast sitting 7.30am.
Negative experience: The hotel withheld the fact that there was a Christmas event going on during my stay. The doors and walls are extremely thin therefore I was kept up until 4am with screaming and door slamming. The decor was lacklustre and dated. Basic amenities. Reception staff weren’t helpful and almost came across bored at work
Positive experience: Went here for my 21st birthday in 1986! Back then it was the dogs. Family stayed recently and said it was a bit dated and tired. And a bit pricey given so many more modern options in town centre and local apartments/student accommodation. Also charged £7 a day for WiFi (per person!) which is ludicrous in this day and age. Fond memories of it being the place to go in the 80’s but feels past its sell by date now sadly.
Negative experience: The whole stay started off bad. The person at the front desk wasn't very welcoming. Then we found the radiator not working in the room and having to rely on a small electric heater with a smell of burning. The mattress felt like I was laying on a wooden floor, it felt like it was bruising my spine while lying there. Barely got any sleep, and woke up with a very sore back and struggled to move. There was rubbish left over from the last guests and the cups were dirty. There weren't enough Powerpoints for charging phones etc.
Negative experience: Rip off parking. Poorly lit and surfaced car park run by external agent. No signage at entrance t/ exit o hotel or entry to venue we attended. Noone in reception. Allegedly a sign there - but no guidance to it. Manager must get a cut of fines they issue as he did not want to discuss fine issued after attending event.stated it was eventually holders responsibility to inform guests - outrageous! And website actually states free parking. A scam. No answer to Britannia Hotel customer service line either - shocking organisation. Do not use this hotel for any event as all guests will fall foul of this scam
Fantastic experience: The room was big, with nice clean linen and the bed was very comfortable. Exceptional value for money. I would definitely stay again.
Negative experience: The Staff were not very polite (except for a black girl who worked in the dinning room who was very pleasant always had a smile on her face. One member of staff in dinning room was most rude to my friend when she asked where was the macornie cheese was he shout at her you've got your meal get and sit down your only entitled to one meal my friend said "I'm asking for my friend here he bluntly pointed out where it was but it did not look like macornie cheese. My friend was so up set. Later one of my friends who finds it difficult to walk far wanted the toilet so I took him and I stood in corridor waiting for him to come out, I thought what unearthe is that smell in the corridor URINE. Our bedroom was cold radiator was barely warm I was on maximum towel rail in bathroom was cold did not work, plug in sink did not fit. All they were worried about was putting new large TV's in bedrooms instead of looking after the customer. Points out of 10 I would give it -20
Negative experience: Staff are the only redeeming feature of this hotel. Hotel is dated, and absolutely freezing throughout. Food is not nice; I would search for somewhere better.
Negative experience: If there was an option to put 0 stars, I would have used it. I stayed here in 2018 and it was a nice hotel, clean and in a good location. BUT when I arrived today the service was shocking, staff clearly didn’t want to be there. I went to my room which absolutely wreaked of cigarette smoke. In a non smoking room, it smelled like someone was smoking 60 a day in there. I asked to change rooms and the second room I was given had an overwhelming smell of wet dog. The bed sheets were all torn and covered in some sort of black dust. The bar was only open in a private function room, so when I went to buy a bottle of water I had to enter the private function. They had no bottles of water and instead could only give me a glass of warm and metallic tasting tap water. I’m not normally one to complain, but this hotel was absolutely awful and I ended up leaving and booking into somewhere else for triple the price, money which I could not afford to waste a month before Christmas. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Fantastic experience: Clean and quiet. The hotel is pretty big. For the price, the breakfast was good, pretty basic cooked breakfast items and cereals. The room was spacious, the radiator put out enough heat to keep the room pretty toasty, my only real complaint, the shower pressure wasn’t very good. In fairness, I was on the second floor and I imagine that’s quite some way for a pump to work, but the shower was only just powerful enough to jet water out on only one of the head settings. I feel like this isn’t a major issue, but as far as showers go, pretty lackluster. Oh, also, breakfast is £9.99 per day and room WiFi isn’t included. £7 per day for WiFi, the gym is also not free, £4 per session.
Positive experience: Room 159 was adequately sized but some things need to be brought to the Hotel's attention! The bathroom needs some urgent maintenance. The cold water flow to the bath and shower was not much more than a trickle, making it scalding hot when trying to wash hair. Reception was told about this and we think someone came to 'fix' it as it was ok for a while but then turned to scalding again! Come on! Surely the hotel can provide a better quality toilet roll! It was dire! If we are to come again next year then we will bring our own if it doesn't change as it was the worst ever. The sheets and pillowcase was horribly scratchy and not nice and soft. Can you please check why water constantly drips onto the window sill, it rained solidly for 2 nights so kept us awake! Have a look to see if there's a blocked gutter above as that could be the cause! Food very poor quality, was either too salty or tasteless. Not enough staff running the bar in the Ballroom on a Saturday night...unbelievable!
Fantastic experience: Great hotel breakfast very nice but could do with a overall in places ie painting
Negative experience: I booked 2 rooms 2 of my friends sforget there ID they said I would get a refund and called them up they declined my refund and said I never showed but made them go home refused to give the room so they got given a room of free pay Reception was rude when I asked them for my money back
Negative experience: Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. A Premier Inn is nicer. I will start with the positive - staff are friendly and the barman was a laugh. The front of the hotel looks nice. Now the room... first room we were given wasn't even made. Bed was slept in and dirty and there was a cup of tea on the side. We were given another room that had a used condom wrapper on the floor, there was no toilet roll and the picture in the room had mould on it. Doors to the wardrobe were broken. There is no plug next to the bed for your phone to charge, the WiFi you have to pay for if you want it in your room and there isn't any food available, not even snacks, so we went to bed hungry. I wouldn't ever stay here again, it's old fashioned and the place is dirty. The food was not nice either. Glad it was just for one night!
Negative experience: Clean basic rooms and pleasant staff, however no phone signal and charging £7 a day per device for slow WiFi in 2024 is backwards and an obvious cash grab.
Negative experience: It is disgraceful of a hotel! I was a guest for a week; on the first day at the check, the receptionist took my booking reference and confirmed the booking through my email. I asked her if she needed my ID. She said no....my car was rented under my own name, not via email, and they didn't ask for the reg number or my name, so they could see this car was a guest of the hotel...so a few weeks later, I received a parking charge of 100 pounds via a letter from the hotel parking management, giving me the right to appeal, but only, if the fine is not paid! Meanwhile, the hotel proceeded to fine the enterprise car rental company, and they took the 100 pounds from my bank account, cutting me from the option to appeal! I asked the office why they took my money that QUICK; they said they paid straight away once the fine was issued, which is unfair. Apart from the parking issue, my room wasn't cleaned for 5 days, there was no sign available for the door handle, says please clean my room; I was busy all day long in a different town, so every eve I was expecting to see the clean room, but no, then I asked the reception why is that, they said I had to let them know I want my room cleaned??? Ok, I said please do, and guess what...they didn't clean it again! Apart from I realized breakfast wasn't included at the place, and toilet paper is the cheapest crap, I had to buy a different one, so it can be helpful to :D I do not recommend this hotel!
Negative experience: We attended this hotel for a wedding. They charged us £60 for parking our car in the car park. Within the car park there wasn't any lighting, so we didn't see any signage saying that the parking needed to be paid for. When we called the hotel to complain, they said that as wedding guests, we didn't need to pay for parking but should have given our car registration number at reception - however, there wasn't anyone at reception when we arrived. We had to find the function room ourselves as there wasn't anyone around. I have no idea how anyone is meant to know the process of parking, especially when we couldn't see any signage, and there wasn't any staff around. DO NOT book this hotel for events or functions, as all of your guests will get parking tickets for using the car park - complete nightmare and ruins a party completely.
Fantastic experience: Stopped here for a night. My goodness what an absolute treasure. The staff couldn't do enough for you. The food was lovely. The rooms were clean. There's not really much more you could ask for! The decor and the gardens are absolutely beautiful too!!
Negative experience: I have been a member of the gym here in the past before I moved away. I also stayed here a couple of times. I recently came back to pick up a friend that was staying there and to my utter disgust, I was given a parking fine. Never before had I ever had to pay for parking or register a number plate etc. I came to collect my friend and waited in the car for 20 minutes and I never left the vehicle. I did not go inside, so was unaware that I had to pay anything or register anything in order to simply collect someone. Then… after saying the name of the person staying at the hotel that I was there to collect in my appeal, it was still rejected due to “insufficient evidence”. Is that not what you have CCTV for? I have now raised a secondary appeal and provided their booking reference to prove that I was there to collect a particular person. I now consider the case closed and every bit of respect I had for this hotel has gone straight out of the window. I would be giving 0 starts if I could.
Fantastic experience: Always take my boy swimming. Staff are really friendly and always make him feel welcome.
Positive experience: Booked a room at The Royal Court Hotel for a short break, didn't see all the poor reviews until afterwards (unlike me). Essentially it is a rather sad hotel/conference centre/spa, in this review I am only reviewing the hotel. Our room had obviously benefitted from a recent refresh with new paint, The bathroom had not been used. The furniture wasn't chipped or marked, the bed seemed new and was comfortable and the carpet clean and not worn. This said the towels were TINY, the sink plug didn't work and although maintenance came the following day it was a bodge that didn't work. There were no pods for the coffee machine on our arrival I had to get those myself. The cushion covers were stained and there was a recent ring mark on the bedside table. Now for the negatives! The bars consistently ran out of wine and draught beer and for the entire period there was virtually no ice save when a guest went and bought three bags of ice for the hotel!! The entertainment - two tribute acts were put in a relatively small room meaning that not everyone who wanted to watch them could. That may have been a blessed relief as they were dire. The food at best was basic and limited in range and the Sunday evening meal was very poor indeed. For breakfast there was a choice of 'English' or 'Continental', I could find all the ingredients for the English, but unless yoghurt and tinned fruit constitutes Continental there was none for any of the three mornings. Lastly the service was patchy some staff very helpful some others were off hand and not very obliging. Finally there was no information either in reception or in the room about local attractions or places of interest.
Negative experience: Staff are helpful, or at least they try. Great location. That’s where he positives stop. Really bad smell in the first room we were given, the room we ended up getting at least didn’t have the cobwebs or the smell. Shower wasn’t working properly. Asked for extra pillows 4 times and got them the next day which was laughable after being told they’d been delivered to our room 2 times and they hadn’t. Wouldn’t stay here again.
Negative experience: Very uncomfortable beds… Wouldn’t recommend a long stay here what so ever! No WiFi £7 for a day! One 1 device
Negative experience: Truly, a mixed bag. Let’s start with the good: the staff are very welcoming and friendly, and the hotel is set within lovely grounds. The bad: strong smell of dampness (everywhere), the lift experience can only be described as a rollercoaster, the gym stinks of urine, unpleasant hooligans wandering around the hotel looking like they are up to no good, shower curtain thrown on the bathroom floor…dare I go on? If you are in desperate need of a hotel - it is acceptable (only due to the friendliness of the staff). If you are looking for a pleasant stay somewhere - avoid it at all costs!!
Fantastic experience: Nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent, and the rooms and whole place of spotlessly clean.
Fantastic experience: Stopped for I night on way to Torquay the room was first class meals were great staff very friendly and the gardens were beautiful
Fantastic experience: Good prices, very polite stuff, lovely swimming pool with saunas and jacuzzi
Fantastic experience: We loved our stay. Well worth the price and the three course meal at £14 was well worth what we paid. The rooms were lovely and the beds were comfortable. The grounds were fantastic. Commute to NEC arena only 30 mins.
Fantastic experience: When I visited Coventry I stumbled upon the Royal Court Hotel (Reminds you of the Court of Owls from Batman). I really enjoyed my stay here, it had that old English manor vibe, the staff were professional and helpful and it had the manor hotel feel when you enter. Equipped with the swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room, made me enjoy my stay here so much more, the rooms were quaint and cosy and a huge swivel TV inside. Overall if you visit Coventry this is where you should stay, I highly recommend it.
Negative experience: Well there isn't an option for no stars so I have to give it on but that is extremely generous. It is possibly the worst hotel and most disappointing hotel I have used for a very long time. No housekeeping for a 2 night stay, tiny towels with nowhere to hang them. Food in the bar was lousy and breakfast was very poor quality. Simply awful. Yet it could and should be absolutely wonderful. It's such a great building with great grounds it just needs time TLC and staff that care about food in the kitchens. Oh and a bar manager that knows how to keep beer and a GM that can run a hotel.
Positive experience: Room was nice and clean, I was staying on the top floor and at the end of the corridor there was a fire escape door held open with a bottle left by staff. So you can go and smoke without walking all the way down the stairs which was very nice. The food was disappointing however, you’re only allowed to have one main in a help yourself restaurant? Which makes absolutely zero sense and I only realised this after being told off, which wasn’t pleasant. The mains weren’t even good you had a lil bit gammon, some lasagna or a salmon fish cake which was tiny. The bar is severely understaffed, on lady serving drinks with up-to 15 people waiting to be served at a time. All in all great room, nice diy smoking area on the top floor, terrible service with the food and drink.
Negative experience: I literally don't know how this hotel is still open. I stayed with a colleague for a work event and I wish I'd have slept in the car to be honest. My room was dirty, the shower didn't drain and was roughly 1 square foot in diameter which made the questionable floating brown specs even harder to escape when trying to clean off the smell that clung to me from the room. There were holes in the walls and doors and the heating was on full blast in the room with no way to turn it off. Meanwhile downstairs there was an inch if water hidden in the carpet of the bar area and the toilets next to the bar had urinals with no flush mechanism attached meaning the urine smell wafted around the public spaces nearby. Food was absolutely average at best with things like veg being bulk bought and frozen. My colleague had it worse though finding a literal pile of old sick in the corner of her room that hadn't been cleaned. I'd avoid here at all costs... just to be clear.
Negative experience: A grand hotel that needs attention. Old fashioned. There is plenty of parking space. I wanted a room with a shower and was given one with only a bath. I didn't use it. I'm not going there again
Negative experience: The worst hotel that I have ever visited, my room smells, food disgusting, service = 0. Garden looks very nice, I should have brought my tent and pack some sandwiches. If you are staying here soon, then trust me - bring the tent.
Positive experience: The reception staff were lovely on arrival although didn't explain how everything worked to start with which lead to difficulty later (ie food allowance). The bar staff in the evening really need some cheering up or people skills. They all looked dejected and were quite grumpy at the fact they had to do paperwork for the stuff I had to order. The bar food was really poor and was expensive for how poor it was. Like the burger at £16.95 that I've had better burgers from McDonald's. The breakfast on the other hand was absolutely amazing with a great range of everything. The staff in the buffet area were polite and very quick to help. The rooms were OK but basic and very cold, even with the heater on. If you are there for longer than one night, room doesn't get cleaned. You have to go to reception to get extra, coffee/tea etc and towels, which is a touch annoying.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel. Got a bit of character about it. Loads of space in the bedroom. Bedroom looks nice, though bed wasn't the most comfy, it was sound for a short term stay though. There's also an iron, hairdryer and even a trouser press in the room. There's a swimming pool, gym, and jacuzzi on site. There's also a sauna and steam room, though one is currently awaiting repair. These are £4 per person to visit, but worth it! Plenty of parking. Just need to type in registration number so you don't get a parking ticket. We didn't eat food at the hotel, so I can't comment on that, but plenty of people were in the breakfast room in the morning when we walked past. The grounds look lovely, and there are fish in the water outside!
Fantastic experience: The Royal Court has improved. I enjoyed my stay. I lovely deep bath, thick carpet, comfortable bed and quiet at night. The drinks were a good price. The evening meal was excellent. It was the best soup I have ever tasted. Staff were attentive. The place was reasonably busy. The grounds are lovely. For the price I could not complain. Thanks.
Negative experience: We were quite happy to travel from London to Coventry on the 6th of September to attend a friend's wedding at the hotel. We were given a room with a shower space so small i could barely get in. Complained about the shower space and the room was changed to a better one. Breakfast was good. Sunday morning was terrible as about eight cars were broken into at the car park and valuables stolen. Terrible place to park in the hotel car park. The hotel charges £7 a day for wifi, connection was impossible upstairs. Seems as breaking into cars is a daily occurence and management is not bothered. Will not be coming back, not safe.
Negative experience: Honestly, if I could have given no stars or negative stars I really would have. I have to say having travelled a lot this has to be one of the worst places I've ever had to stay and especially since it's really not cheap. Surly check in staff to start with where they proceeded to try and give me room with bath only - no shower. So that was swapped, no info on where to get breakfast etc. I was swapped to room with shower and when I got up I did wonder why there was a blower and an abandoned towel outside my room but went in anyway. The room had a definite odour really quite strong so the window was opened. I went to the toilet and once flushed, it would make a significant banging noise for up to 10mins after. All the furniture in the room was extremely cheap and far too big for the room, the bathroom floor wasn't clean, behind the taps had a serious build up of dirt too. I went out to dinner with some colleagues and the reason for the air blower became apparent - the carpet in my room as actually soaking wet in large patches. I mean wet enough when I put my foot down that the water came through my toes!! I was already undressed by this point or I'd have demanded another change of room. They clearly knew there was a problem with that room but proceeded to let it out. The mattress has seem significantly better days too. Next morning I was greated by a cold shower followed by the the worst breakfast I've had in a hotel. No where near enough seating for the volume of people staying, tables not cleared meaning many of us had to sit as dirty tables. I've never had scrambled eggs that tasted of literally nothing before. The cooked breakfast was just as bad - I mean how can you make hash browns that bad!! I wasn't alone in my issues - one colleagues found sewing needles all over the floor - clearly not vacummed and a terrible mattress, another colleagues has a corridor that had clearly not been cleaned in some time. We also witnessed another guest trying to get some improvements for his 2 weeks work stay - almost having to barter with the manager to get basics. Very poor Wifi Audacity to try and charge £4 for the gym and pool to guests. We declined, given the state of the place overall it was probably a blessing. Check out lady was lovely - and taking the brunt of complaints she has little control over. In summary DO NOT STAY HERE
Positive experience: The room was large and clean with a large flat screen tv. The bathroom needs to be updated as cannot stand shower curtains.....so not nice. The grounds are lovely. Service at bar was very slow and food was OK but nothing spectacular. The breakfast was great. Everything cooked to perfection, plenty of choice. All in all not a bad place to stay.
Fantastic experience: Busy on bars, slow service due to only 1 person serving many people. Clean room, good value price.
Negative experience: DANGEROUS! DO NOT STAY HERE! This hotel is shocking, our vehicle was broken into and I've heard multiple others experienced the same. It's in a very dangerous area, I was warned to not walk my dog as there are men lurking in the bushes at night outside the hotel. Some man opened our room doors in the morning with no warning to check the fire doors?? The cleaners are playing loud music in the corridors in the morning. I honestly never stayed at a worse hotel than this. Nevermind the horrible smell inside. This hotel should close down.
Negative experience: very old fashioned, from paper check in to no free wi-fi, rooms a bit tired and could do with a modernisation. The staff however were fine. I ate the 3 course Carvery meal, but it was like something from the 70's or 80's with some very odd choices available and although edible wouldn't have it again.
Positive experience: Attended a wedding and spent two nights. Customer service is excellent. Loved my 2nd room as fuses blew off in 1st room. Hotel needs to do something about the car park. At least three cars were broken into; one I saw had its rear glass completely smashed. Valuables, drinks, laptops stolen. It was a sad ending on Sunday morning.
Positive experience: This hotel is worth the price we paid on line for the rooms. The hotel itself is in a good location. The rooms were a bit tired, but they were clean and tidy. Staff were polite and courteous. The breakfast was adequate, but let down by some of the selection and other parts being overcooked. Parking is free to guests providing you register on arrival.
Positive experience: Nearly a good hotel. Rooms a tad shabby but spacious and clean enough. Quite a lot of make do and mend but given the room rates are relatively low, it’s tolerable. Basics like making the lights come on when you press the light switches we had to work out for ourselves because there’s no maintenance staff at the weekend… But the thing that really lets the place down is staff training, or lack thereof. Not sure why you’d need to teach people to say please and thank you but it goes a long way in a hospitality business. Gently reminding them that being brusque with guests is a no-no might pay dividends too. The place is vast so keeping it tidy and decorated must be like painting the Forth bridge. I’ll give them a pass on the lapses in decor. But if they hired someone from Hilton, IHG or even Premier Inn to retrain EVERYBODY, they could improve out of all recognition.
Fantastic experience: Dear Royal Court Hotel Team, I wanted to take a moment to express our sincere appreciation for the wonderful stay we had at your hotel recently. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Royal Court Hotel and will definitely be looking forward to visiting again soon. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating throughout our stay, making us feel welcome and comfortable at all times. A special mention goes to Manish, who was truly exceptional and went out of his way to assist us whenever we needed it. His dedication and professionalism made a great impression on us. The only small criticism we have is that we would have liked our rooms to be cleaned every day. However, we understand that this may be due to current policies or circumstances. Overall, while the hotel may not be a 5-star property, we found it to be very good for the price you pay. The value and service provided were commendable, and we left with fond memories of our stay. Thank you once again for your hospitality. We look forward to our next visit
Positive experience: Pros - Very clean - Very cheap - Lots of facilities - Beautiful grounds Cons - Found the odd makeup stain on a couple of things, but seemed v clean nonetheless - No plugs by the bed - Pillows were too hard, like sleeping on a sack of flour
Positive experience: Very good hotel with very clean rooms. Took up the excellent two day relaxing break deal. Made good use of the swimming pool gym
Positive experience: Very good value @ 44ukp ,WiFi only available free in the lobby so @7 pound a day ,that was the catch. Free parking .
Negative experience: Hotel was okay, was only using it for one night due to a local tournament. Annoyingly the hotel issued me a parking charge two days later, I have checked my details and car was correctly registered. Accepted this may be an error so sent the appeal with proof of stay etc. Declined due to apparently lack of evidence although amazingly willing to drop the fine to £20. Seems like they are just scamming money out of people as the appeal process then closes and they know nobody will bother with the ombudsman over £20.. shame really as will be visiting Coventry fairly regular now and am going to have to avoid this hotel. Stop working with scamming companies like parking eye or better yet actually be helpful when people call up to check the registration was right. Would not recommend.
Positive experience: This hotel must have been a great posh conference center back in the days. The reception area and the front garden were gorgeous and looked very prestigious. The whole building was made very carefully back in the days but now seems outdated and there are a lot of things that need some work done. The decoration took us to anotger era which was pleasant however if the building was well maintained it could become an excellent place. We were amazed by the breakfast room whixh had this massive wooden area with the buffee. Great pice of work!! However as the rest of the hotel was not maontained well. The food was okey but nothing to stand out. It was a gteat gesture and cudos to the hotel as the staff were offered breakfast. I would appreciate if they were using the atfaf room ir if they came to the dining area with normal clothes rather than their uniform. The staff were ever so nice and professional. Overall value for money.
Negative experience: Location wise this place is good in relation to CBS arena an Coventry City centre, however that's where the good things end. Arrived at the hotel just after 6 pm woth no one around apart from the 4 people in our group the first 3 us checked in fine, while checking in a coach load of people made their way into the hotel an barged inform of me who was the last of our group to check in. This then made my check in from 2 mins to 25 minutes because reception staff were more concerned about the coach party. I finally got to my room which was relatively clean an looked to be one of the rooms that had been updated over the last 12 months, however mattress on the bed left a lot to be desired an had clearly not been changed this century. Our group had to dash off as we were at the CBS for an event that had already started an need to get there ASAP, so didn't have time to check everything out. We got back to our rooms at around 4am an I needed to charge my phone only to discover that the bedside sockets were old round 3 pin plugs from the 1950s on there was only one other socket in the room that the fan was plugged into. The next we had problems with was maids, at 8.15 in the morning the maids were banging on people's door wanting to clean rooms when checkout wasn't until 11am so I was woken up after only 3 an half hours sleep with a 3 hrs journey home ahead of me, one of our party the maid actually came into their room at 8 while they were still sound asleep in bed. So would I stay here again or recommend this place, absolutely never in a million years would I nor would i recommend anyone stay here. I hope this helps anyone thinking of booking this place.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic hotel. Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Would not hesitate to come back again.
Positive experience: We have stayed at this hotel twice in the past 5 weeks, on the first stay we were so happy with the value for money. We paid around £50 or there about, for their top teir room, WiFi was free and breakfast was super cheap (I think it was around £6) I agree with some of the comments about the hotel being outdated but to be honest we felt it was 100% worth what we paid. 0 complaints at all. We stayed last night and noticed that the prices had gone up by quite a lot. Their twin room (2 single beds) was £65 (this same room was £40 a few weeks ago) and WiFi was no longer free. Breakfast had also gone up by £3 per person. There were weddings going on in the hotel, so not sure if they inflated the prices as a result of this but got to be honest I don't think this hotel is nice enough to be commanding that much for their rooms. This would have been our new go to hotel when we are in Coventry but I just don't think the standard is high enough to pay that much. We stayed in Stratford Upon Avon the night before and paid £200 a night , but the hotel reflected the cost. So this isn't a case of me not being willing to pay out, I just have to feel that the price reflects the room and hotel, I just don't feel this does sadly. In short, this hotel is good if you don't have massively high expectations, staff are polite and helpful but you're not going to be wowed by anything in any way. I personally wouldn't pay more than £50 to stay here.
Negative experience: Room was very tired, however it was clean, food was not good ate out on our 4 day stay, they seem to cater for bus tours and ethnic weddings, not my cup of tea. Won't use again even if it was cheap.
Fantastic experience: Came here on a coach trip for two nights and I was absolutely surprised by the change in the hotel from the year before. The room was beautifully decorated and refurbished - bathroom was very clean and there was a bath mat provided. Shower was brilliant - best shower I've had in a hotel!! My only suggestion would be to install a handrail to grip whilst climbing over the bath into shower. Breakfast was really good and staff were friendly and helpful. Full marks to the manager who ensured all guests were treated as VIP's.
Fantastic experience: Me and my sister went to the hotel for 3days it was lovely the room was spotless had everything you needed and the food was nice definitely go back the staff made you welcome
Fantastic experience: Bathrooms could be updated .Towels changed daily. The staff went out of there way and beyond to help with the issues. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: Stayed in a ground floor room .I had to request a remote control, which was delivered soon after requesting, but I was unable to get the tv on. I phone reception and asked if someone could show me how to do it ,to be told I'd have to wait until the following morning for maintenance. I told her I was going home tomorrow and it was no good for me and surely a staff member could come and show me how to use it. So, as a disabled single traveller, I was confined to my room for the evening with my phone for company. The hotel and grounds were beautiful. I had stayed here before and had no problems.
Fantastic experience: Chose this hotel for two nights as we attended a family funeral locally. Ignored the bad reviews as they are often misleading. We were welcomed warmly by Manish, who was extremely helpful and a joy to deal with! We found everything very acceptable and will stay there again. Remember you are not buying the place, for the price we paid you would find it extremely difficult to find better. Thanks to all.
Positive experience: Really great value. Nice property. The rudest check-in ever. The receptionist demand my car's plate number. After 3 hour drive, I needed to use the toilet. Let me set my bags down. I could go back to the car park and get my plate number. The guy was very aggressive about getting my car's plate number. I had to be the one to de-escalate. He kept saying, "this is for my safety". Only after promising to have it within 15 minutes did I get my key. Also the welcome email after booking was rude. So it's properly a management issue too. Room was spacious. Pillows were way too large. Ground were great. Only 10 minute drive from the City Center.
Negative experience: No wardrobe, no hanging space, no hooks, no glasses, no hairdryer and so on. At least the room was clean and had character. Reception staff not available at check in. Serving staff just hanging around. The saving grace of this hotel was the chef, nothing was too much trouble and his food was really good. Alcohol prices were also very good.
Positive experience: Stayed at the hotel as part of a package trip with UK breakaways. Quite clear the hotel is under renovation as the rooms are quite dated. Doors need silencers as they do slam. Wifi pricing is atrocious at £7 and the normal wifi doesn’t even work. Food is okay but needs improvements
Positive experience: Beautiful hotel currently being refurbished. Very helpful staff. Good basic buffet food with 4 choices of mains at dinner.
Negative experience: Hotel looks stunning from the outside however the room was unkempt, broken door handles one of the windows didn’t close properly & the bathroom was tiny the shower didn’t work properly and the floor we stayed on stuck of weed! The food wasn’t very nice so we checked out a day earlier very disappointed.
Negative experience: Worst ever hotel ive stayed in.... the food on offer and the quality of the food was shocking!!! Bar food, was right out of a freezer and tasted horrible... out of 12 of us that stayed there not one person ate all there food. Next evening we had there set meal... exactly same quality rubbish... I did have a 16" hair that was in my soup and when i mentioned it... the waitress had seen it floating around the room and couldnt catch it!! Then i ripped a brand new pair of trousers on one of the seats that had a sharp piece of metal on it... the manager said it was my fault for getting up so quick!! Do not do what we thought and think the reviews were false...There not this is the very worst hotel in the UK... DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
