Nuffield Health Guiseley Fitness & Wellbeing Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: A great gym, really enjoyed the steam and sauna. Staff are very friendly, particularly Millie who goes above and beyond to ensure members are comfortable and welcome.
Fantastic experience: a wonderful gym, staff are very welcoming especially Millie Kelly. would recommend to everyone
Fantastic experience: Always a great atmosphere and lovely staff who are willing to help out whenever you need it, especially Millie.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Nuffield Health Guisley. Such a welcoming environment and even better staff. Had nothing but positive experiences when interacting with the ladies at reception and duty managers Shauna and Lily also cafe make a fantastic coffee.
Fantastic experience: Hi, my name is Bernadette (using my husbands account). I have tried a few Nuffield gym branches, in my experience Guiseley is the best. The range of classes and availability is excellent. The Nuffield team are all super nice, welcoming and helpful, and the club is kept very clean and tidy. I have mainly attended Bodypump classes, 3 times a week with Lesley for a few years now. Having tried other classes and instructors at various branches, Lesley is without doubt the very best instructor that Nuffield has. She is extremely experienced, clear and concise with her instruction. Lesley is very helpful and mindful in adapting the class for your personal requirements, abilities or injuries. Whilst (gently) encouraging you to push your comfort slightly, and improve your weights and range wherever possible. It helps that Bodypumps music track is also very good, keeps you engaged and gets your toes tapping! Because the class is so well adaptable to each person, the attendees are of all ages and stages. There is no pressure whatsoever to hit any targets of any kind. Every person uses a different set of weights, or none at all! Take a break if needed. There is zero expectation or judgement. I'm in my late 40's now, and when I first started a few years ago I was on the very lightest to no weight range. I am now somewhere near the top end and I've never felt fitter or stronger. I could not recommend the club, the class, or Lesley highly enough.
Negative experience: Increasingly poor membership experience. After many years of membership today was the final straw. Waited patiently for a running machine as all taken or ‘out of order’, only to be asked to vacate it halfway through workout as “there is a class starting soon”. Classes that the same people block book in advance and you can never get on. On top of constant price increases, I’ve had enough. This gym has survived due to lack of local competition, but that is starting to change.
Negative experience: As of today's date approximately 10% of the machines are out of order and some have been like this for over 4 weeks now. Can provide photos if required! This is not a cheap membership club either. There's a real opportunity in this area for another gym chain to open. (Looks like it's happening now with PureGym opening a gym shortly on Guiseley retail park!)
Negative experience: An extremely poorly run gym, poor management, rude staff at reception, so many machines out of order, pool regularly out of order, yet they increase the membership fee year on year. Nuffield senior management really need to investigate this poorly run gym. Whenever you call the gym no one seems to answer. Unfortunately I'm a member by necessity and not by choice due to no local gyms with a pool where I reside. As am I writing this review I've been on hold for 15 mins and no answer. Shockingly poor.
Negative experience: Poor membership management with constant equipment breakdowns and unbothered onsite managers. Negligent on H&S requirements for underage children.
Negative experience: Had a week's trial at Wakefield Nuffield where the staff were great and very helpful. Had 2 days left on the trial and was staying closer to this one (cat sitting) and asked to transfer over the last 2 days. Cannot transfer. Disappointing.
Negative experience: If it wasn't for the pool I would cancel my membership. There has been a large reduction in Spin classes which means it's impossible to get on any of the few left. I have a programme for the gym, can't get on equipment for groups chatting and looking at phones. The gym hasn't recovered since covid and nobody seems bothered.
Negative experience: Over priced for what it offers.
Negative experience: Used to be decent, now its like a school playground full of groups of young teenagers treating the gym like a youth club and hogging equipment. Rubbish.
Negative experience: Really busy. In need of a refurb. Very expensive to have groups of kids having a 30 minute chat around a weights bench so you can't get on it. Lockers always locked, some locked open so can't be used. Poolside has areas of rot with areas out of bounds due to not being fixed. The fact that the front door was stuck open for two months over Christmas sums it up.
Negative experience: Not worth the money at all, gym has more members than it can hold, meaning it’s difficult to have a good workout. Gym layout is diabolical, why have empty studio rooms when you could put more machinery in? No rules about gym etiquette meaning people just sit on machinery looking at phones, leave weights out, big groups of teenagers stood on the same machine so you can’t use it. SORT IT OUT, FOR £80 A MONTH IT SHOULD BE A VERY GOOD GYM…. ALSO STOP GIVING OUT YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DISCOUNT, THE GYM IS TOO BUSY
Negative experience: So many disappointed members. Pool temp fluctuations steam room often does not work . Machines out of order in gym Local school uses facilities in afternoon not a chance of getting on anything Reception staff are just cannon fodder for poor management who are miserable and don’t take any feedback on board and now in 10 weeks have turned up late to open up leaving all 6.30am members stood outside in all weathers . Shame no competition in area as this gym does not deserve its status and is in desperate needs of a good clean also.
Fantastic experience: Came her for the first time (as part of my multi gym access) and I must say it’s probably one the best gyms I’ve been too. Ben was really approachable and showed me around the gym. Friendly, clean and warm atmosphere. Will be back soon. Thank you for being so welcoming!
Fantastic experience: Great machines and staff
Positive experience: Great facilities….but no free towels…outrageous!!
Negative experience: Not a family gym as advertised. Gym and swim times for juniors are during the working day, not great for working parents. Swimming pool is viewed as a leisure pool, expect to be scowled at if you want to swim crawl. Policies change as frequently as the wind and no one has a clear understanding of what the policies are. As a result I joined Cookridge Hall, the difference is stark, much more family oriented, friendlier, a better functional fitness set up and a larger gym floor.
Positive experience: Overall facility is good, however the sauna is a let down. Very rarely hot enough
Negative experience: Too many members for this size gym and especially pool. The pool only has two lanes, one of which is constantly booked for kids classes every day of the week. The pool is always crowded and therefore unsuitable for any sort of training. If you are lucky to go when both lanes are open you will find that noone cares about the slow and fast signs. Older/slower people paddle along and there is no staff to reinforce any order and make sure slow swimmers are in the slow lane. The gym is just as crowded as the pool.
Negative experience: Staff are great from cleaners to management. However there is a lack of new equipment in the gym for the price you pay. Too many members for a gym of that size. Equipment not put away by other gym members, people constantly on the phones taking 5 minutes between sets as they check social media. Therefore having to queue for equipment.
Positive experience: **Updated Review** I spoke with the manager of the gym who confirmed the issues I had experieced were not the norm and steps have been taken to address and resolve them which is positive. The gym pool, sauna and steam room are great and beat any similar facilities in locations nearby. The gym equipment is solid but some kit is usually out of order when I visit. I hope that this will change. Staff seem friendly, particularly the manager was approachable and eager to resolve any issues I had
Negative experience: awful
Negative experience: Not family friendly. Unfriendly reception staff, pool only open for kids during week whilst they are at school!
Fantastic experience: I joined Nuffield recently and already I’m loving it. I’ve been swimming a few times now and love the pool and the freedom to go any time I want without having to book. I took part in a Tai Chi class and can safely say I’m already in love with the art form and have booked quite a few other classes to try. And today I had my personal program with Abi, which I was very nervous about, but I can honestly say I didn’t need to be nervous at all, thanks to Abi, it was hands down best gym experience I’ve ever had! Abi was brilliant, she was friendly, supportive and encouraging, she took me around the gym and set up a really great program for me to follow using equipment and areas of the gym I wouldn’t have dreamed of trying out on my own, she really boosted my confidence and made the experience a fun one. Thank you, Abi! X
Positive experience: I like Nuffield Guiseley: I joined this gym for its pool + classes. I then found out that I can take children under 5 free of charge to the pool with me (in specific family swim time slots), which suits me very well. The class variety is great, the instructors are very helpful whenever you need some advice, and the overall atmosphere is nice and friendly. I am also pleased to see that there are many elderly people attending classes or just working out in the gym, which to me is quite inspirational. The facilities are also regularly cleaned, which is reassuring. -1 star due to the fact that the changing room feels cold after swimming; the pool water is sometimes cold; and the car park is usually very busy. I do presume that non-gym people park there, so would be good if this could be addressed in order to secure spaces for actual members. Overall, a happy member and will continue with Nuffield Guiseley for the time being.
Fantastic experience: The gym is a friendly and great place to go to get yourself fitter. Staff go the extra mile and the overall level and standard of facilities is excellent. Always feel welcome - I’m no gym bunny so pleased to see people of all ages and fitness levels.
Negative experience: I joined up used the pool which was cold, like an outdoor pool.i informed staff who told me the heater wasn't working. No signs to say this.very difficult to get parked. No one answers the lreception phone. cancelled my membership within the cooling off period and cannot get my twenty pounds activation fee back, still wait ing after a month.
Negative experience: READ IF YOU ARE MILITARY PERSONNEL. This is the first of many, multi-site reviews i will be leaving. Nuffield Guisley offer a ‘corporate rate’ for serving Military personnel. This was sold to me under the guise that it could be ‘frozen’ during expected periods of unavailability at ANYTIME prior to the 18th of any month. The only requirement on a 12 month agreement is that to end the agreement, regardless of any suspension, 12 complete months need to have been paid for. According to Richard Beaumont, this is not the case and when Nuffield Guisley decide that they want to take your money when they re-activate your membership, any refund of that amount is totally subjective to what-ever Guisley kingpin Mr Beaumont wants to do, or doesn’t want to do in this case. This is a gym that markets itself as ‘for you and not for profit’. This membership is not suitable for those who cannot regularly attend and even with MOD corporate, expect to pay £50 PM for the privilege of nothing much. If Nuffield want to offer MOD staff a package, it needs to be restriction free with regards to suspending when work takes priority. If the above isn’t irritating enough, Guisley management decide when they want to respond to emails or calls.. or even if they want to respond at all blaming mis-communications on junior level staff. In a nutshell, Guisley has some lovely guys and i’ve plenty of good things to say about the hard working reception girls who take all the flack for senior management, who consequently are generally always un-available due to being a big deal elsewhere. Guisley is a gym that promotes ‘good health’ yet for almost a decade, couldn’t / wouldnt fix the air-conditioning which ultimately during workouts had the effect of an asthmatic kitten breathing on your face on a 35 degree day.. Incase anyone reading this hasn’t figured, most of the management team haven’t got a clue. So many more people now are opting for other local gyms in otley / ilkley etc that are better value for money (minus a tiny pool) at around £30pm. People are leaving this place in droves, they don’t even pay their PT staff all that well that work their backsides off. To conclude: IGNORANT / ARROGANT MANAGEMENT WILL IGNORE EMAILS / REQUESTS MANAGEMENT WILL LIE TO COVER THEMSELVES POOR VALUE FOR MONEY POOR COMPLAINTS PROCESS AND HANDLING VERY DIFFICULT TO GET A REFUND EQUIPMENT IS OFTEN BROKEN WILL LIE TO GAIN NEW MEMBERS / MIS-INFORM Guys, do yourself a favour and look for a gym elsewhere..
Negative experience: Good facilities, the (male) PTs were mostly very unfriendly and treated me like ****.
Positive experience: No pec deck
Fantastic experience: Best gym I've ever been to Classes are great, staff are helpful and enthusiastic
