DW Sports Fitness - Halifax

Negative experience: Reviewing on behalf of my Ukranian refugee guest who has just visited the gym and returned to say that she had caught another gym user trying to take photos of her rear whilst using equipment and performing squats. Is this normal behaviour at your gym? It should be a safe place for all to use without the fear of intimidation and being photographed.

Negative experience: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!! I have been trying my hardest to cancel my membership, because when I signed up, I was completely able bodied, and now I am not. Since signing up, I’m now pregnant and have seriously hurt my back to the point that I can hardly move. They have every excuse under the sun as to why I can’t cancel my membership and have no empathy whatsoever. I then cancelled my direct debit, but they went and set it back up again and took my money!! They are impossible to get hold of, their telephone number doesn’t work, they don’t reply to their Facebook messages or emails. This gym is run by a bunch of cowboys that don’t care about anything but their deep pockets!

Positive experience: It's got all the machines and spaces that I need - great to have a pool onsite too- with none of the usual problems of gyms. The music isn't too annoying. Other punters mostly put their weights back on the rack. It's rare that I'd have to wait for a machine because somebody's using it as a convenient seat for playing with their phone. Staff actually want to help. I haven't yet noticed many creepy blokes leering at female customers. I'm very happy overall. The switch from DW to Everlast was mostly painless.

Negative experience: Most of the classes cancelled. Cut back on yoga & Pilates classes unfortunately.

Fantastic experience: I was a member of this gym for years only leaving because I moved away.I was really unsure about being in a gym but was helped by the lovely staff, I even had some 1:1 work to help me along my way.The group sessions were ace, really motivating.Would highly recommend it!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming to DW for a couple of years now... the staff have always helped and show me how to work the machines or answer any of my questions, they’ve always made me feel comfortable and I think that’s really important. I love going in the steam room and especially the swimming pool... no other gym in Halifax has one- so this is a massive plus for DW. This year I’ve recently started going to the classes and my goodness... they are absolutely fantastic... I wish I’d tried them sooner...! The atmosphere is always spot on... I’ve made some friends along the way too! They’ve recently taken on a new manager and he’s absolutely spot on and I think DW will absolutely thrive under his reign! Sometimes after classes a group of ladies sit and have a coffee in the cafe area and if you need a bit of company... I think this gym would be perfect for you... especially if you like a coffee from Starbucks. It’s a really good gym... but don’t just take my word for it... go down and have a look at the constant improvements and lovely atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Well first off what a welcome! The staff are very friendly and welcoming and we’re happy to help with any questions I had. The facilities are stupendous and perfect if you want to catch the 4.20 train to gainsvile. If you’re looking for a great gym with great staff and great facilities look no further than DW Halifax.

Negative experience: Visited the gym on the 11th January 2020 not been to this gym in 5 years and I was shocked. Nothing had changed weights missing and badly worn all the benches are torn and tatty and on entering the steam room it was mouldy and the roof was badly damaged. And they are wanting £35 per month .joke I will definitely not be going there avoid.pure gym is far better.

Fantastic experience: Excellent gym, helpful staff. Tom explained thoroughly my membership details and helped me further when I couldn’t log on to the app to book classes. Everyone friendly and approachable. Surprised by the negative reviews on here as I’m extremely happy with my membership. The shop upstairs is great with nice staff and a great range of clothing.

Negative experience: BEWARE! Shocking place, terrible staff!

Negative experience: Pool is nice enough, good jacuzzi and sauna and gym is not to bad . What really lets it down is very unhelpful staff bordering on rude, restrictive hours and fact that they starting to close down areas to early so they can go home. By 9.20 pm sauna it’s switched off, jacuzzi closed and cleaner is staring at u in changing room waiting for u to leave. For the price they are charging I would expect better service or at least to be left in peace

Negative experience: Run-down equipment, dirty changing rooms, broken lockers and rude staff.

Fantastic experience: Love comeing here training at this gym,my partner andy trains here too has a swimming pool, Hot tub ,steam room.

Negative experience: An old gym that needs a renovation. It’s not changed since it’s days as a JJB gym, whilst the equipment is ok the rest of the facilities are very tired. Staff are ok but not particularly customer oriented. Could be great but isn’t.

Negative experience: Benches smell like absolute gooch, they never wipe down the gym. Gross.

Fantastic experience: Visited the shop to buy some running shoes and insoles. 2 members of the staff sorted me out and made sure I got the right shoes for my feet Great service. And cheaper than I was expecting too

Negative experience: I have been a member of the gym for 6 months now and have unfortunately had to complain on 2 occasions. On both occasions I have found the manager very unhelpful and uncompromising in her 'we are always right' attitude. I am now contacting head office to try to resolve the issue, but don't have much confidence in the matter being resolved. I wish I had read some reviews before taking out a year'smembership.

Negative experience: Usual problem with DW - I told them I was leaving and then tried to say I had to keep paying them for an extra month because I had to give them notice (which is just simply wrong). I refused to pay and they sent about half a dozen threatening letters from lawyers telling me I would have to pay all their costs. I replied and explained they were wrong in law and I looked forward to seeing them in court. Funnily enough, eventually the letters stopped coming and I heard nothing else. The gym staff may be nice but the company is run by a bunch of bullies and sharks who you wouldn't buy a second hand car from. I'd avoid them.

Positive experience: Expensive, small gym. Decent sized shop.

Fantastic experience: I like that everything is under one roof, I can gym, swim, do classes and use the steam room all for a reasonable price. Off peak is good value. I travel 2 to 3 months a year, I like that I am able to suspend my membership while I am away (for £5.00 per month). Staff are a quite young, they would benefit from a little customer care training such as acknowledging you as you leave, being more present in the gym.

Negative experience: Horrible gym. Unhelpful staff. Stinky showers, Blocked toilets. One day wifi didnt work staff members blaimed it on the rain lmao haha

Negative experience: Halifax dw is absolutely rubbish. The air con doesn't work, no staff on the shop floor, showers stink like there's open sewage works, there are no windows but other than that it's an ok gym, nothing special. Not really worth the money u pay.

Negative experience: Signed a six month contract, charged me 7 months as did not advise I had to give a months notice. Threatened with debt collection agency & extra fees if I did not pay. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AS THEYVE DONE THIS TO EVERYONE IVE SPOKEN TO & SOME PEOPLE I KNOW HAVE AN ADVERSE CREDIT HISTORY NOW BECAUSE OF THIS AVOID

Negative experience: Worst sales staff, tried to sell me a running shoe 2 sizes too big but assured me it would be okay with an insole

Positive experience: Halifax dw gym is brilliant for staff being very helpful an friendly, great equipment and quite a nice located gym, only downfall if there is one is the showers being no seperate showers but apart from thats its excellent

Positive experience: One of the better gyms in Halifax, really decent equipment most of which is never too busy apart from free weights which isn't usually too bad either, certainly not as bad as other gyms I've been too. Pretty nice pool which is always empty which is great for me, probably a bit short on length (I think 18m), but also has nice steam room and hot tub. Only been to one or two classes as they seem to be in abundance in normal working hours and then filled up super fast for peak slots such as spin class at 7pm but when I went pretty good.

Positive experience: It's a good, basic, affordable facility with pleasant staff. Have been a member for over 3 years and it's the most cost-effective facility within my travelling distance. Only problem is routine maintenance - stuff like unusable lockers seem to take forever to fix.
