Coylumbridge Hotel: Opinions
Positive experience: Hotel public areas were pleasant, staff were friendly and the hotel was surrounded by forest. The only real downside was the sound proofing of bedrooms. We could easily hear conversations of neighbouring room, including their dog which barked during the night.
Fantastic experience: Great family friendly hotel that allows pets. Aviemore is a mecha for outdoor enthusiasts. Can't get tired of this destination
Positive experience: Would agree with others that the hotel Is definitely a bit dated and has seen better days, but is remarkably good value. It also has a free onsite gym, pool and sauna (which was a big draw for me) but these are only open for a couple of hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon/evening. I can’t comment on the breakfast but the dinner was just ok, I wasn’t expecting more in terms of quality for a buffet but more variety would have been nice. 2nd night I ate in town. The staff were very friendly and helpful and not only upgraded my room for free but also gave me loads of tips for local hikes and stargazing spots. In summary, had an excellent stay and you can’t beat this hotel In terms of value for the facilities you’re getting and the location for exploring the cairngorms. Would definitely stay again.
Positive experience: Good for kids and parents big soft play and mechanical dinosaurs outside! Rooms a bit dated but alright! Located just outside aviemore takes about 30 mins to walk to aviemore. Good access for cairngorms if ur skiing
Fantastic experience: Great hotel great service and a great pool i even learned how to swim with no lessons
Negative experience: Staff on duty at breakfast worked very hard as it was busy but still managed to be helpful and nice. (The female breakfast receptionist did an amazing job when there were very long queues). There was no hot water for showers in either of the rooms we booked. We thought it was a timing thing but it happened morning and evening. Spoke to reception after the first night and they said maintenance would take a look but the second night was just the same. We were told when we booked that the rooms were basic - and they were - but they were clean. But I would expect there to be warm showers. A cold shower is not pleasant after a day out on the mountains.
Negative experience: A hotel that’s been ran in to ground and still expects people to pay for the privilege. A first time short break skiing with the family, ruined. The rooms and corridors are in dire need of a face lift with furniture in tatters, stained carpets, grout missing from the majority of the floor tile which caused a cut to a foot in the bathroom, and 2 oil filled heaters to heat a cold room because the heating doesn’t work. All of the above was raised with management who was only willing to offer a 40% refund and a preferential rate on a return stay within the next year, after a months emails and phone calls to head office. This was once a fantastic family hotel, not anymore.
Negative experience: A bald middle aged man working at coffee (starbucks) stand was absolutely rude as he shouted derogatory and racist and non sensical allegations of stealing condiments from the stand. Would not recommend this hotel at all. Super disappointing.
Positive experience: Great value . a bit noisy with dogs barking and kids running wild but overall good stay
Positive experience: We had a lovely stay , pool was busy on our arrival day but managed to go in the next morning and it was nice. The lobby was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Breakfast was good, just wish the reception staff were a bit more informative about the dinner menu/cost how to book etc. we would come back
Positive experience: Didn't stay in the hotel, used the pool which has been totally revamped.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed our stay here , gorgeous place
Fantastic experience: Anyone who give this hotel a bad review are clearly all the Karen's of the world. For the price you really can not complain, great facilities, food is decent, entertainment. Not a bad word to say, will be back! I will be staying any time I am in this area. Close to aviemore village and 13 mins from resort.
Negative experience: This hotel has dropped its standards hugely from when it belonged to the Hilton group. It is well past its sell by date & requires a large renovation and it clearly short staffed. We arrived to find the receptionist could not fathom out how to check us in, we offered to go to the bar ( no offer of a complimentary drink for the inconvenience or the staff member approaching us to let us know we could now book in) instead we had to rejoin a half hour queue at the reception desk. Please be aware there are NO LIFTS in this hotel and the staircases are very very narrow. Normally we wouldn’t bother but there were just too many things to complain about. The Woodshed bar looks the part but it extremely cold, so wrap up warm ( there is a lovely open fireplace but there was insufficient wood to keep the bar area warm. The Woodshed bar was closed on day 2 due to a “gas problem” but no signage in reception to let the hotel guests know of this. Check your room key is active as you pass reception as it is very frustrating when you have a room furthest from reception and arrive to find your room key doesn’t work. The bath/shower temp was luke warm as were the radiators in the room at 19:30.. This hotel cannot compete with others in the area and my advice would be to look elsewhere and visit this hotel for a couple of hours if you want to entertain the kids.
Negative experience: After a tiring 3 hour drive, I was disappointed that I couldn't check in 11 minutes early and had to wait until 3pm. The room was tired, bath was chipped in several places, wash hand basin had been painted white and the paint was peeling. The worst night sleep ever, doors banging, people stomping about, children crying, dogs barking, people talking loudly, knocking on each other's doors to wake people up in the morning, then workmen bringing and banging scaffolding outside my room. I was going to highlight this at checkout but the person on reception didn't even make eye contact. Very disappointed on what used to be a lovely pleasant experience.
Fantastic experience: The room was rather small but everything else was great!! We were in the UK during the Christmas period and it was here that we felt the spirit of it. Family and pet friendly. Wonderful staff, great lobby and inhouse pub. Awesome location.
Negative experience: Lovely location and surroundings just a shame the hotel has became pretty run down. - First of all the line for check in was absolutely horrendous and only 2 staff were checking people in at a time. - The guy who served us was quite rude and asking my partner for Identification even though I had booked in myself. (Definitely don’t look under the age of 16) - and then proceeded to ask for his car registration. - Staff can’t crack a smile at anyone and look like they want to kill you. - The buffet is horrible and very overpriced. - The breakfast menu doubled in price for average food on NYD coming to about £30 each. - The women at the desk said there was no tickets left for the hogmanay party but then handed them out to other people? - Bar staff pretty rude swearing at my partner and waving a ‘No Cash’ sign in his face because he didn’t know you couldn’t pay with cash. - The women at the coffee bar didn’t look like she could tell the difference between a cup of coffee and a cup of tea. Looked at me like I had three heads when I was talking. - I got put in a disabled access room when neither me or my partner are disabled. I paid £170 for this room and barely step foot in it because it was filthy. The bathroom was basically a shower room and was grotty - didn’t use the shower because of how bad it was. - The carpet in the room was damp from the bathroom before we came in and walls were moist. - When complaining to reception in the morning the women at the desk couldn’t care less and didn’t seem like she was in a rush to pass the complaint on. - The double bed was two single beds pushed together and fell aside every time we moved. This was a lovely place growing up just adhame it has fell apart over the years with changed staff etc. Other than that I think the location is good and pretty close to centre. Thanks.
Negative experience: Stayed her many times over the years, at least twice a year, it's such a great place for kids, we have loved it, however, it seems to be going downhill again and was really disappointed at our stay over New year. Utter shambles it was, for a start the staff look like they want to either kill you or themselves, none of them can smile and are so extremely rude, except Lily Weston and the Glasweigion guy in the Woodshed. No-one seems to know anything when you ask, the woodshed staff just open when they feel like it. The food is extremely expensive for what you get. They ran out of Drink on hogmony, I was charged double for Breakfast, the Greek guy who over changed me then said, well nothing I can do about it now and shrugged his shoulders at me, he was also rude and needs to crack a smile. why work in Hospitality if you have zero customer service skills. If they overcharge you you need to put in a claim and it can take upto 3 weeks. Hogmony was chaos, short staffed, they never announced anything that was away to happen, they put out the Stovies 1st to the people who didn't buy Ceilidh tickets, they played Auld lang sign and told everyone to go on the dance floor the same time they lit the Fireworks so you had to pick what you wanted to do. They chap you up and tell you to get out your room bang on 10, check in is a complete nitemare be prepared for massive ques, they are extremely strict in the pool and I woke up in the Morning to water coming though the roof, my jewellery ruined my clothes soaking and my phone broke, all i was offered was a cup of rice for my phone. I'm definitely taking this further.
Positive experience: We have stayed here a few times now. It's a great hotel for families, with entertainment, a good breakfast buffet. The dinner is ok, bit of a random mix. Maybe be better if they just stick to a theme a night. Do Chinese one night, BBQ the next etc. but it's good enough and as someone who suffers from a dairy allergy, it was all written out what was dairy free so I knew what i could and couldn't have, and most of it I could which was great. The rooms could do with being revamped a bit but as we stay with dogs it's not a big deal. We love the convenience of the location, the friendly staff and the way it is so dog friendly. (Almost) everyone is happy to see the dogs there and comes to say hello to them . The pool is good and the facilities have been upgraded. For the price too on Aviemore you can't really go wrong.
Positive experience: This hotel is long overdue an overhaul and this year it was nice to see they’ve started it on some rooms. Worth a visit but don’t expect plush 4/5 star hotel. In terms of rooms/decor it’s likely only about a 3 star in my eyes. It’s dated but they seem to be improving things which will hopefully bring it up to the 4 star rating it has. Staff are lovely, pool is small and the lady who runs the pool does so with an iron fist and is sometimes over zealous. Can be a bit rude but not sure she entirely means too. Amazing setting, great breakfast but average rooms. This year our mattress was in dire need of replacing which affected our sleeping but the room itself was clean and tidy and had all the necessities you’d want. The entertainment is very cheesy but great for the kids. Nothing really much for the adults. Except for the New Year’s Eve party which was amazing last year. It is worth a visit but we are hoping next year they will have done a lot more to the place to bring it up to date. Children’s play areas are great and the arcades are brilliant for passing time. Not really that expensive either. Overall, worth a visit but don’t get your hopes to high. We use it as a base to chase the snow for the kids each winter. Ideal for skiing at Cairngorm mountain range or even just a visit to see the snow. Around 15 mins drive to the base camp ski resort which is 100% worth a visit. Local reindeer centre close by but not cheap and about an hours drive from Lecht Ski centre. Short drive into Aviemore town centre with everything you need in your stay. Tesco, restaurants, bars and an amazing fish and chips place. Also plenty of shops. Again….. worth a visit but don’t get your hopes up and don’t fall fowl of the lady who patrols the edge of the pool
Fantastic experience: We celebrated Christmas at this hotel, and it was truly magical! All the interiors have been beautifully renovated, combining a modern look with a cozy festive atmosphere. There were plenty of activities organized for children: meetings with Santa Claus, real live reindeer (which were the highlight of the evening), and various activities ranging from games to workshops. The live music added a special touch to the atmosphere, and the event program was perfectly planned. The festive dinner also deserves a mention: the dishes were delicious and refined, and the staff was very attentive. This is the perfect place for a family holiday celebration – fun for the kids, comfort for the adults, and festive cheer in every detail. We’ll definitely come back again!
Fantastic experience: We had a nice stay in this hotel, it has a very cozy atmosphere and it was clean. We booked room+breakfast and to be honest the breakfast wasn’t to my liking I wish there was more variety, the breakfast seems tailored for locals (beans, sausages, etc) But overall satisfied with the stay and would recommend it. The manager was kind enough to give us some directions about where to see highland cows nearby which we truly appreciate because it was on our list and we did manage to see them.
Positive experience: Overall a great stay and really good for the kids and for dogs. Food is good and all the staff are very friendly and attentive. The entertainment is fun with a lovely foyer for relaxing in and the pool is very well maintained and managed by excellent pool staff who are great with the kids and very helpful. Rooms need a bit of TLC a bit dated run down and the ones we were in smelt a little damp but overall a great stay.
Negative experience: Me and my family booked a 2 week holiday for this hotel for Christmas and it was very nice nice staff and nice people but on the first night the electrics went out this happened alot of time. We ordered food by the bar both burgers was pink and it was very expensive but the worker we told about the burger did talk to the cooks about the burgers he also did change them. The entertainment was good but they have danced to the same songs every day and the staff are quite nice people but last night at about 9 o'clock the back of the entertainment there is a white cover board looking thing and some of the entertainment workers kieran and Billy was making out for quite some time and it was very visible I don't not like this very much as there was alot of kids in there room.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous experience in December at Coylumbridge was had in December. Nice dog friendly hotel to enjoy the delights that Aviemore has to offer. Our 3 year old Labrador accompanied us and was made most welcome as well. He is used to sleeping in boot of 4x4 so it didn't incur extra charge...he might have wished he was inside with us though as it was a tad chilly -8 outside in the car park overnight! The staff are any organisations number 1 asset and they did the Brittania Group proud with everything that was asked of them. The Restaurant evening meal was delicious, especially so when only £25 for a 3 course meal! Breakfast was good as well, served buffet style with a vast choice. Only complaint would be that the piped music that is played continually throughout the public areas was a bit on the loud side for our taste...but then again we are oldies and only want peace and quiet ! All in all a delightful experience and we will certainly go back in the spring or summer.
Positive experience: You get what you pay for and find this hotel great value in a wonderful setting. Huge bar lounge and you can set off from the doorstep if you want a long walk/run to Loch Morlich or Lairig Ghru.
Negative experience: If your expectation is of a 4 star hotel then this is not the place for you. It is a run down and seedy roadside motel. It must be the on-site amenities that are making it 4-star as the quality is 1-2 star at best. There is not a single surface that isn't marked, scuffed, scratched, stained, or cracking. Even the coating on the sinks and baths are peeling. The gym sits across from the bar so you have an audience to watch you work out. The "food" at the buffet restaurant was disgusting: grey turkey meat, cheap plastic looking mac 'n' cheese, and very little selection. The beds were ok to sleep in, but this place is in dire need of a full refurbishment.
Fantastic experience: First time staying at Colyumbridge Hotel. Was only for one night and didn't spend much time in the hotel but of what we seen, the hotel was lovely and catered well for families. Room was nice and spacious, no complaints. Nice central hotel and not far from the town. Would stay again.
Positive experience: Nice room, beds were comfortable. Tired shower, not much pressure. Little bits here and there showing neglect, nothing major. Limited access to pool facilities, currently no changing rooms! Also, erratic opening times. Staff were a mixture of helpful and unfriendly, some good experiences and some not. Bar closed at about 10pm one evening because "sometimes we close earlier if it's not busy"
Fantastic experience: Decent hotel near Aviemore. Reasonable prices, nice bar area. Very good and easy access to Aviemore and lots of walks.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place staff very helpful. Great for children, has soft play, animated dinosaurs in the grounds a big hit with my 3ry old nephew
Fantastic experience: We had a fabulous meal here. Food was amazing and good portions. Great choices on the menu, even for the fussiest eaters amongst us
Positive experience: Excellent hotel for the price. Rooms clean. Lots to do and keep entertained. Family friendly with the hotel putting on activities daily for kids. 2 pools in the building with sauna attached. Situated in wood and 10 minutes drive from a beached loch at Morlich which I highly recommend a visit.
Negative experience: The food was very basic and only just OK. The staff were rude and their Call Centre staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. See comments below. This is a copy of the email I sent Britannia Hotels and have still been totally ignored and had no reply :- "Prior to plastering this all over Social Media and the local press I wanted to give you the opportunity to respond to me positively. Last week I has due to stay at Coylumbridge Hotel with a group of friends and I was the organiser and the person paying. Unfortunately a couple of days prior to this I had a Massive Cardiac Arrest. My son who was part of the group rang your Call Centre to amend the booking to be told by some thoughtless, couldn't care less, un-empathetic moron that they couldn't do anything without speaking to the person who had made the booking i.e. Me. Can you imagine how he felt ? His father lying in Intensive Care in hospital being told they couldn't help . Having spent 25 years in Customer Service with a major UK Bank I firmly believe that you have a serious internal issue ! This is NOT a call for compensation but an opportunity for you to do something positive to make sure this does not happen to anyone else. Yours Sincerely Dave" I have still not received a response and was told by the other members of the group that the Hotel wasn't very nice at all anyway. The staff were rude and the food was very average ! They would not recommend staying at this Hotel and I certainly will never be booking any of Britannia Hotels in the UK again.
Positive experience: Booked for two nights, stayed for one. We had a wee dog with us so they gave us the worst room in the hotel I think. The room was clean enough but really dated and the carpet was really worn. Didn't walk about in barefoot just incase. I didn't want to stay two nights and booked a nicer place somewhere else. This hotel needs totally renovated . I would give it a 3 star at the most. Definitely not a 4 star hotel
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed our stay. First thought of our room was a little dated but it was perfectly fine and comfortable for the family. Really enjoyed a last min booking at the pool too. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Would go back.
Positive experience: Amazing what a great holiday. Staff so friendly and lovely scenery just bits and here that need a big update. The rooms are not in the best shape as a secure lock was missing a bit cut out of the wall mold on the window sill. Beds so comfy yea and coffee overall great experience
Positive experience: Amazing place to stay. It's an old hotel but We had an amazing time with my husband and kids I was a bit moody before I went there but honestly the place makes me calm. Full of nature, you can take long walks in a quiet and peaceful place, Of course, you can not find a perfect place. There were some issues like shortages of stuff we stayed 4 days I saw one waitress running everywhere day and night I felt sorry for her, we don't leave our plates on the table we tidy and put them back where they belonged to help her out a little. Just try to ignore those rude stuff. And you will be okay. You welcome
Negative experience: We're on holiday in the area and wanted to use their leisure facilities as advertised on the website. They don't tell you the opening times though and instead ask you to phone a premium rate phone number, which is annoying in the first place. Even more annoying was that when I phoned, they kept me on hold for 8 minutes then hung up. Absolute scam artists. What sort of hotel only has a premium rate phone number instead of just a normal landline? I would never stay here, as it's clearly the sort of business that will try to rip you off at every possible opportunity.
Positive experience: Hotel had everything we wanted from our short stay. Rooms a little dated but adequate. Buffet evening meal not fabulous but hadn’t booked elsewhere so made it work. Breakfast much better. Would return
Negative experience: plenty of parking round the back as I noticed the front was always full. What an absolutely stunning location for a hotel and in the perfect place for hikes and walks. Plus activities within walking distance. On first entrance to the hotel it took over 30mins to check in due to the numerous coach loads coming in! Initially and for a long time after speaking to people in the queue there was only one staff member on the reception and around 10mins of me arriving another staff member helped with check ins. There’s no lift in the hotel and it wasn’t initially easy to find the second floor. Once I did it was up a tiny fire escape stair case. First opinion of the room was ok, bit outdated and then noticed the dirty cups and spoons. Plus hairs all over the bed and there was even a nail in the bath tub! Disgusting! I couldn’t get the heating to work as there’s no thermostats and no knobs on the old radiator. When I went to ask for a heater the woman on reception was a bit sarcastic with me as she told me to turn the radiator up and I asked how and she said with the dial on the side to which I said there isn’t any and she almost went to tell me to look again when another staff member said some rooms don’t have them and have to have portable heaters put in the room. 40mins later a portable oil radiator was brought to my room. The following day I went to work and came back to find a mini oil radiator had also been put into my room. Breakfast was ok, buffet style and always lots of seats and food available. I didn’t dine in the restaurant as it’s a set buffet menu each night. I couldn’t eat off of the bar menu (personal allergies and tastes) but I did grab a drink on my first night there and found the tables to be low with high seats so you couldn’t get your legs under. I did eat at the Woodshed on two evenings as unless you have transport you can’t get food as it’s so remote. The woodshed is located just outside and it’s absolutely beautiful. Wooden log cabin with a wooden walkway - although it needed more lighting on the walk to it from the hotel as there’s a long tree root sticking out which can catch you off guard! The inside of the woodshed is beautifully done and has a pool table. The menu is limited to pizza and nachos and there’s only 3 pizza options available. They were ok and sufficed. I did use the swimming pool and sauna… you have to book a slot for one hour in order to use it and if the hotel is busy then you’ll struggle to get in. You’ll also need a pound coin for the lockers. I was fortunate I got the entire place to myself one evening and was pure bliss. The place was clean, however, I feel you need the showers separated by a curtain or something for those that want privacy when bathing. Besides the one sarcastic receptionist I found all staff to be friendly and welcoming.
Positive experience: I stayed here after walking through from Braemar; it's not your standard howff for hikers but it served well enough. My room was clean, well appointed, but a bit cramped and slightly rattly. Like a five star portacabin. (But the public spaces are great, find yourself a huge sofa and park yourself there)The hotel itself sprawls all over the place, you expect to get lost though I found myself around OK. It's maybe more a family oriented hotel, there's activities for kids, a "show" at night. Pool and spa, though unfortunately the sauna was shut when I was there. You have to book dinner ahead, and breakfast is an extra £15. Probably a better option is the two bars, really nice and they do food. You need to book the pool too. So you need to plan your stay a bit. I think it's not quite up to 4 star standard, it's a bit understaffed, all the same it's great value for money cheaper than some hostels on the night, and the location is fantastic.
Negative experience: Really poor! Would avoid! Bathrooms were dirty and mold visible, hair from previous guest not cleaned up. Rooms very basic and tired. Pool was only open morning and evenings for a short time and you need to book with very limited spaces, this was only advised on checking in. Don't go expecting to swim or use the sauna!! Why is it closed during the day? Staff unable/unwilling to assist.
Negative experience: It's like the staff don't care about you. You are there to be processed and that's it. Certainly didn't feel like a guest. Room was OK, but tatty and old. Breakfast was a buffet style and the food certainly wasn't cooked within love or pride. Currently been waiting in a queue to get a pint at the bar, very slow service. Bartender left to serve some food! Reminds me of a military base to be honest. Difference being I was paid to be on those.
Positive experience: What a quirky little resort! First the pros: 1) Quite possibly the quietest hotel we've ever stayed in. You didn't hear through the walls or the doors opening and closing in the halls. We slept great 2) Fun and quirky atmosphere with 90's arcade games, a pool, live music, and an adventure park across the parking lot 3) We had two separate reservations because we decided to extend our stay and we were upgraded both times 4) Some of the staff were quite friendly (especially the main worer in the restaurant who seemed to live there) 5) Our rooms were roomier than expected 6) The sauna was lovely and the gym is adequate 7) Great location with easy access to Aviemore, the ski lift and great hiking trails. Lots to do! Cons: 1) Very outdated, falling apart and I need of serious renovation 2) Many of the staff were unfriendly, incapable of cracking a smile, and seemed to be hostages. 3) They seemed to be short staffed 4) The food was mediocre 5) The pool "jacuzzi" was a brisky 30 degrees 6) The hotel main areas and rooms were not clean I know these cons aren't great but with a great location and a reasonable price plus a fun, quirky bounce back to the 80's or 90's, we would definitely stay here again.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience from 16th-20th Sep 24. What a team! Great clean room, well stocked with beverages, plenty more at hand at reception, friendly, proffesional service at reception. The food was superb, plenty of choice, catering for all tastes, the vegetarian butternut squash curry was class...so tasty, and the homemade soups....wow, best I've Ever tasted! Esp thanks to CHRISTIAN, PATHOS, CASPER....Thanxs guys....excellent customer service! FAULTLESS EXPERIENCE. And the grounds...well maintained! You are all a credit to the hospitality Industry.
Positive experience: Overall, you get what you pay for and this is a cheap hotel. In more detail: Staff at reception were welcoming. There was no queue when I arrived though I can see how there could easily be a big queue at busy times. I had a courtyard twin room (by myself). The annex is accessed from reception via a weird arcade. The building has clearly been built as cheaply as possible with some very poor workmanship on display. The corridor and room were also very warm for no apparent reason. The bed was extremely lumpy, I can't understand how a bed even gets that lumpy. The walls were very thin and whenever someone walked past or opened a door nearly it sounded like they were trying to break into my room - not good when travelling as a solo female. The tap in the bathroom was too low to fit the kettle or a water bottle under it. The shower was ok. I didn't eat in the restaurant or use the pool so can't comment on that. I did like the animatronic dinosaurs outside. I slept well but I think that was in spite of the room rather than because of it. As it's the only cheap hotel for many miles around, I would probably stay there again but I can't recommend it to anyone else unless you really can't afford anything better.
Fantastic experience: Staff were amazing, helped out with every request, yes the rooms are a bit dated but the service and the location more than make up for that
Negative experience: Don’t stay here the beds are so awful, pure wire coat hangers sticking into your side, no padding, thin walls. This place is stuck somewhere in the 90s and hasn’t been improved since. The food is pretty average. Average age of the human here is 60 to 80 years old. It has an arcade that reminded me of being a kid, but it feels a little cursed as you can see from the video. Run while you can!!!
Negative experience: On a motorcycle traveling home from John o groat's to york £79 for room plus £13.50 breakfast. Efficient but not friendly on check in. The coffee machine at breakfast, only one working. in poor condition . Worst latte I've ever had. A large hotel with high turnover, this shows . The smaller hotels were much friendlier with better service . Would I stay here again, only if there was nothing else.
Positive experience: Definitely time the sanitiser was removed. This is 2024 not 2020 and alcohol sanitizer does not kill a virus anyway. Smacks of project fear.
Positive experience: Room I stayed in was basic, no decor, bland walls as if it was an after thought. The rest of the hotel was actually nice
Fantastic experience: What a wonderful stay, we got a free upgrade to the grantown suite. It was beautiful, what a surprise. So lucky and grateful. Staff were super, breakfast was first class. Thanks so much
Negative experience: Second time here a year later and forgot I said I wouldn’t come back. It was cheapest in the area, travelling with my 2 young kids, and sadly there’s a reason for it. The rooms are run down, beds very uncomfortable and lumpy/ flat, I was tempted to do the iron bed mites test but I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I knew!! Blood stain on a bed sheet. Just gross. The bathrooms run down, paint peeling off the radiator, the fan had thick dust on it, it all just feels a bit dirty. Can not fault the excellent location. The kids love the dinosaurs at the front of the hotel and the park. I didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food.
Negative experience: Well where to start the first room we got was hiding in the hotel behind the arcade and down a long hallway as we opened the door we said (this looks lovely) but we said that from a distance as we looked about we realized that the room had an echo because of the bare walls we looked on the floor. The carpet was not Hoovered, the bathroom lock wasn't working the tap was dirty and the bathrooms had been damaged. They couldn't be bothered tucking the bed sheet, the bed sheet was stained. The bed mattress was so worn in that you could touch the bed frame through the mattress sooo we went back to see if we could get another room and we did. So we're happy that we got that, we went to the next room, dust everywhere again, didn't bother tucking in the sheets again. Lock on the bathroom wasn't working and the TV was hanging off the wall with 2 screws missing kettle wasn't cleaned or checked as still had water in it as we already had to change room once we said f it Soo I'm writing this review to say come here for the day out with the kids but don't spend the night as when we came in this morning we heard people already complain about the room (DO NOT SPEND THE NIGHT HERE). As someone who cleans for work for it to be sold to people still dirty is a joke.
Negative experience: We’ve been visiting this hotel for two decades, and it was always our go-to for summer and winter trips to Aviemore, but this will be our last visit. The positives : the bar still has live music in the evenings and it’s a pleasant place to spend a couple of hours. Let’s face it, there’s nothing else to do in Aviemore after 7pm. Bar pricing is OK too. That’s where positives ends I’m afraid. Britannia Hotels have run the hotel into the ground. When it was a Hilton property it was obviously an older building but felt comfortable, welcoming and the staff were good. Not now. Some staff are OK, others (the younger locals mostly) are useless. Britannia clearly do zero customer service training. The communal areas beyond the lounge are filthy, worn out, and in need of total refurbishment. They have an insane policy of “no check ins until after 3pm” even when the rooms have been vacated and cleaned much earlier, this means there’s a long, slow queue when check in opens and everybody is there simultaneously. They seem to take great delight enforcing this ridiculous policy despite being a crazy way to run a hotel. I’ve stayed in 100s of hotels for work, and have never, ever been unable to check in on arrival, even when I’m slightly early. They will allocate the room, program the key but absolutely will not give you the key until sometime after 3pm, so no joy checking in earlier then heading out for the afternoon. Apparently this is due to housekeeping staff, but they were already leaving the building well before so no idea where this concept comes from… Regardless of all this check in time excitement, make sure you get there before the 2 or 3 inevitable bus trips arrive or you’ll tear your hair out waiting. The room we had was mostly clean, not Premier Inn clean and fresh, but no fleas or bugs (unlike some other recent reviews). Smell was musty and stale though. Beds very uncomfortable. The room was bland and tired. I remember the Hilton rooms having some character but now it’s more like a 60s seaside B&B. There is no air conditioning and no obvious way to regulate the temperature in the room. The housekeeping team forgot to replace our towels, so I picked up the room phone to call housekeeping only to discover it wasn’t connected! No cable, nothing - like an Ikea prop…. Why even bother?! The Woodshed bar is closed except Fri & Sat. The Fun House arcade is a rip off with lots of broken machines. Pool is only open until 7pm - Aviemore is an outdoors place - you’re doing stuff during the day, so closing the pool at the time you’ll be back at the hotel is just weird. The hotel used to have a little bistro/restaurant that was quite cosy, but now it looks like the seats for the Starbucks concession. Speaking of which : “We’ve bean waiting for you” (sic) - never saw a single staff member there, so clearly they haven’t been. Sad to say we’ll not be staying here again, and it makes me actually sad because we’ve got lots of happy memories staying in Aviemore at this hotel over the years. If Britannia management are reading this - it’s disgraceful how bad you’ve let this place become. Staff could maybe have made a difference. The old staff that is. Not Z**. He can’t. First impressions are so vitally important. Apparently nobody told Z** this.
Negative experience: Coylumbridge Hotel During my stay at Coylumbridge Aviemore Hotel on 12/8/2024, I encountered both positive and negative aspects. The check-in process was smooth, and the front desk staff were welcoming and professional. However, the experience at the hotel’s swimming pool was disappointing, with the staff displaying rude behaviour in front of our children, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional.
Negative experience: The moment I walked in the room the smell of wet dog and mould and BO was horrible got told this was an upgrade from the small double with no window and got this!! we’ve been on the road for 2 days and wanted a refresher a hot shower and nice cosy bed I’d be honest I’d rather bath in a lake and sleep on a bus stop I can’t stop itching it’s gross but I’m a saver so I’ll stay here but please stay away update we got another room after complaining they didn’t want to know at first but after some minutes they came to see it themselves and couldn’t be sorry enough and we have a beautiful room so can’t fault them for that. all we wanted was a nice cosy room and we got it in the end
Negative experience: This hotel is in a great location and the foyer area is nice and first impressions were good. However, to check in we had to wait a ridiculous amount of time. Not that many people in the queue ahead of us but by the time we were seen a huge line had formed. No apology for the wait when we got to the desk and there was a manager hiding in the back when she really needed to be out in front helping out. The room was clean and the bathroom was nice. However, a queen size bed (smaller than double) is not suitable for 2 adults to share. The room was also quite run down and there was no decoration at all to make it seem more homely. Very uncomfortable nights sleep and also quite a lot of noise from the corridor. Our keys stopped working after a day and the receptionist was quite sarcastic when we asked for them to be reprogrammed. We enquired about eating in the restaurant and again the receptionist was unhelpful to the point that we just decided to eat elsewhere. Overall was not impressed with this hotel at all. What a shame as it has good potential and is in a great location.
Positive experience: Rooms are very dated, small and basic for the price. Premier inn does it better. Evening buffet had poor quality food and not worth the money. Some very odd rules and restrictions for the leasure centre, like they wouldn't allow my 6ft 3inch, 16 year old in the pool without an adult being in the water with him. The staff were all very friendly. Overall, disappointed, as had been to this hotel previously and had fond memories.
Positive experience: A very good family hotel. Room cleaning during a 4 night stay was lacking. Bathroom wall had a couple of hairs and some stains that were not cleaned before our stay. Staff were generally friendly and helpful. Room doors need a quieter when they close as they slam. Plenty of things to do for children of all ages. Great location!!!
Negative experience: Location is great Have been coming here since a very young child, great facilities for kids as the reason for a visit this time with my daughter and niece. Disappointed with the fun house not being open past 6pm, seems early given the time of year. Thankfully we had nice weather so got use of the park. Football pitch and tennis court locked out as well which seemed strange given time of year. Hotel in general was rather run down. Room was a fine size although bathroom a bit grotty, handle hanging off the door, shower head barely hanging on. No lift service for the family rooms so not easy getting up floors with a pram and young kids. On site pub (woodshed) didn’t even open. As I say not the purpose of the trip but always a good option for later in the evening so was disappointed to say the least. In general for the price for one night was £195 with breakfast. Outrageous. A family member got the same deal on itison for £79 and I’m not even sure they got a great deal to be honest. Really disheartened as have loved this place growing up but will probably be my last visit.
Positive experience: We were travelling up to the north of Scotland and decided to do an overnight to get a break from driving. Had a look and this hotel appeared to be the most ideal in price and location. Upon arrival , the hotel grounds are lovely and well presented. Good parking facilities with overflow parking to the rear of the hotel. We checked in around 5/5.30 and there was a bit of a Que , however it went down quick. Alaksandra (I think) checked us in and was kind enough to offer to upgrade our room free of charge. The room it’s self was good for the price , just your standard double bed , bath and tv. Rooms are a bit dated but as I said it suited us well as we weren’t travelling for luxury. The room was clean and the bed fairly comfy.Included in our stay we had dinner and breakfast. The dinner was a buffet style , the waitress at the restaurant was super friendly. The food itself was your standard buffet consisting of meats , potato’s , chips , veg and soup. I did notice that if we didn’t have this included in our stay with was around £22 per person , personally I wouldn’t suggest it was value for money and alternative options could have been more appealing. Would be ideal for young families as under 3s go free. On the grounds of the hotel there are lots of other facilities , the pool , kids softplay , arcade ,bars and the actual grounds are nice to walk around. Although me and my partner were travelling ourself I could see us coming back with the kids as there is a lot for them to do and the area is ideal for adventuring in the Cairngorms or playing in the hotel with the facilities. This place has lots of great potential and is what you make of it. Staff 10/10 so nice and welcoming
Negative experience: This property is very old and needs upgrades. It does not have air conditioning and no lift. We are senior citizens and we were allotted rooms on second floor inspite of request for ground floor. There was no signage regarding stairs, after reaching first floor we found that stairs were not going to second floor, we had to bring luggage to ground floor then we found stairs for second floor. In our room we were being disturbed by loud music in lobby till 10:30 pm. I will advise everyone to avoid this hotel.
Negative experience: Most expensive yet worst place we've stayed on our holiday. Room not made up properly: twin beds pushed together that we had to separate ourselves, sheets didn't fit the beds, duvet covers on inside out, only 1 bedside lamp for the two beds yet broken bedside lamps litter the hall which, along with the abandoned laundry carts made it feel like it was the abandoned wing of the hotel.
Negative experience: This is a big hotel and seems old. For such a big hotel, I would put down following points to review - 1. Family rooms are situated on first floor and there are no lifts. I have seen so many young families struggling to lift and carry their young ones in pram along side luggage..! I myself had a few bags for our week long Scotland holiday and it seems very strange for such a big and busy hotel not to add lifts to access family rooms. 2. Rooms are very old fashioned and small. Hardly any space to move for a a family room..! 3. The bathroom specially the bath is a joke..! The shower ... sorry or should I say - a pole with a flat head and as much as only 9 holes allows some water to trickle down..! 4. The bar staff are so arrogant (specifically the male staff on 27th July late evening), that when you order some food and pay, and ask them roughly how long would it take for the food to arrive, the just shake there heads and raise their shoulders and hands saying we don't know...! Overall, expected a bit too much looking at a the size of the hotel and considering it's been there for years based on historic photos you have..! I guess it being located at a prime spot - centre of all Scotland in Aviemore, they should seriously think to upgrade and improve..!
Fantastic experience: We was staying for few nights and we enjoyed. At the beginning Yana upgraded our room for free. Room warm, clean, water in the shower hot( not always you can get this and power was amazing), bed was comfortable. I slept well and no weird smells. Clean and no extra noises from other rooms. Swimming pool lovely and water warm, inside warm and comfortable. Staff polite and helpful. We enjoyed food. Reasonable price and if you have kids a lot you can do. Highly recommended ❤️
Positive experience: Double room turned out to be a 4ft bed against a wall. No food after 8.30pm. Very noisy and busy with wedding parties. Breakfast was good.
Fantastic experience: Myself husband and 8 year old granddaughter stayed for 4nights. Buffet meal had a good selection and was really nice, restaurant staff were really good, Caitlin is a cheery, bubbly young woman, Giselle has an infectious smile, and Christiano was so kind. Rooms are a bit dated but you are never in the room for a length of time, beds were clean and comfortable. Room was clean. Sadly my husband had a fall out side the hotel his own doing, staff immediately came to our aid and did everything they could to assist me, reception staff looked after my granddaughter as she was so distressed. Staff helped me get my husband to our room, they were professional , calm, helpful and showed genuine concern for all our safety. An amazing bit thank you to Emily, Lily, Juan Carlos, Mihai, Delia, and Amdneea, without all your support I would have struggled. Thank you coylumbridge I will certainly be returning.
Negative experience: AWFUL EXPERIENCE, LEFT AT 1.30AM!!! This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in EVER!!! Disgustingly dirty rooms and bathrooms, clueless staff, freezing cold and then unbearably roasting hot rooms, feral teenagers/children running and screaming in hallways lap after lap tapping on doors, a flooded carpark entrance and walkways, dimly lit paths, tired dated ripped furniture everywhere and a staff more useless than the faulty towers crew!! On arrival we were met by a woman with the WORST understanding of Scottish/English language and who was to busy going through her preprogrammed offers that she didn't even answer any of our questions that we actually needed answers for! Had no idea what a clothes horse or drying rack was, asked someone else in office who suggested we use the ironing board, explained there was zero soace to set it up and he shrugged his shoulders! We basically gave up and went to our rooms, what a joy that was. Dust everywhere, pubes on bathroom surfaces and beds, disgusting mildew smell and freezing cold! Then after being in our disgusting room we ask about how to adjust temperature to be told all radiators are turned off in summer so there was nothing they could do to warm it up. Enquired as to what the attatchement was on the taps and to wether we were ok drinking the tap water due to it and she had no clue and said explicitly that there was no attachment on the tap! I googled the product and it was a water filter attachment, absolutely clueless!!!! On our way back to our room we were passed by sniggering feral children/teenagers who were having a joyous time playing postie knock on doors and tearing along the corridors at full pelt near knocking over an elderly couple and shouting obscenities. Later we heard the screech of the drunk mother as she screamed at them to come to bed at 1am, yes the noise continued until 1am! By this point we had had enough of the now roasting hot room, full of midges because the window was open to cool it and the drunken feral screams so we packed up and left at 1.30am with our two children aged 10 and 11. Never in our lives have we experienced this bad a hotel, seriously AVOID AT ALL COSTS, pay the little extra and go to Premier Inn or MacDonalds instead.
Positive experience: Pleasantly surprised after reading reviews. Nice room and bathroom. Fan supplied. Buffet breakfast very good. Nice location with ample parking.
Negative experience: We were lucky to arrive when checkin queues was minimal, however found other families had wait a long time to check in. We booked a family room which had 2 double beds. The room it’s self was very out dated, dusty and cold. Phoned reception to find out heating system is switched off for summer, but was provided with electric heater. We had workmen outside our window putting up scaffolding all of Saturday morning, which wasn’t ideal. Would have been grateful to be informed about this before being woken up with the noise. However, the swimming pool facilities was a good bounce with an added flume for the kids. Breakfast was good quality and a variety of cold and hot options for everyone. Saturday night entertainment, was a solo singer which was a great surprise and unexpected. These added touches definitely helps you forget about the undesirable outdated rooms you have to return to.
Negative experience: The worst holiday experience I've ever had. I booked a room at this hotel online. The listing said queen size bed, I paid extra for that room based on the bed. Upon arrival, we were given keys to the room, neither of which worked. After getting the keys fixed, we got in there to find a small double bed, and thick dust on all of the surfaces, the bed was not much larger than a single bed. I complained to the receptionist, who told me that because I booked through a third party site, they couldn't do anything about it. He informed me that I would need to pay extra to upgrade to a family room, but that the family room only has a small double bed anyway, and that single and small double are the only bed sizes available in the entire hotel. So I contacted the website I booked with, who advised me they would get a refund if we booked another hotel, this was after two hours of the customer support trying to contact the hotel, with nobody at the hotel answering the call. After five hours of driving, two hours of trying to resolve the issues - we were forced to pay for a different hotel. Put our bags back in the car, and drive another half an hour to another hotel. Today, five days after we were supposed to stay there, the website emailed me to tell me the hotel has refused a refund. So we were charged full price for a falsely advertised room which we were unable to sleep in. This is nothing short of robbery, an absolute scam. The hotel is horrible, the rooms are disgusting, the staff are unhelpful. Please book literally anywhere other than here if you intend to visit the area. I've never had such an awful holiday experience.
Positive experience: Room was farrrrr too hot. My child had to sleep in the car as he couldn't cool down. Was contemplating leaving the whole time. Only complaint, everything else was to be expected.
Negative experience: Fun house is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 80% of the machines are out of order. Hotel has zero atmosphere and is like a ghost town. The resort just looks tired and is in desperate need of refurbishment Such a shame as this used to be a wonderful resort when it was ran by Hilton.
Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed stay here. Sits in wonderful surroundings very close to Aviemore, very popular for families so quiet noisy in the evening when we were there. Rooms very nice with very comfy bed. Breakfast and evening meal buffet was excellent with a huge selection. Planning on returning in the autumn as enjoyed so much.
Positive experience: Beautiful hotel but has a weird smell in the rooms. Perhaps because it's closed most of the time and no ventilation. But overall good.
Negative experience: Rooms are so outdated. All hardware in the bathroom is old to the point it feels been there since 80s. Beds are very hard, suppose it's hard to match everyone's liking on this, but I could feel springs through sheets. Also, extremely creaky and noisy beds. Imagine sounds you get from any activities. Breakfast was decent, although coffee could be better thinking we paid I think £20 per person and you get instant coffee. So probably better of head down to town. Kids activities are plentiful and very good from soft play to free outdoor playground so 5 stars there. Pool it self is very good, but the fact that you only get 1h its little bit short for family. I'd say you want 1.5-2h. Location is amazing.
Negative experience: Owners and management of this place should be ashamed. Dated and grim. A sad buffet, marketed as 'mouth-watering dishes and grand buffets'. Nothing more than some died out oven food. Stay elsewhere unless you're looking for a hostel style experience.
Positive experience: The rooms look very old, beds are super squeaky and uncomfortable better take your own pillows you have to book a slot for swimming pool and it's only for one hour. The beautiful pool is very clean and warm it has kids water slides. Slots are too short. Food was delicious and many to choose from. Check in starts at 4pm fun room (soft play) and pool last entrance 5pm closed from 6pm. Staff was amazing, very helpful but those little rules of timing are awful. An amazing dinosaurs !!! Beautiful walks and a river nearby.
Positive experience: Booked hotel for s special birthday, staff forget to put bottle of wine in room which was requested in advance. . Twin room with a little dog . Room very basic, duvets thin and needs replaced .Foòd in restaurant overpriced and very basic, although the service from Christian the waiter was good . Food in the bar was much better, although the barman needs a personality transplant !! This hotel seems to be so large that its lost its identity. Confusing themes ? Roman statues out on lawn, crossbow feature on outside wall. Plastic plants hanging from the hanging baskets . Dinosaurs on the lawn .. ?? Maybe sticking to a traditional Scottish theme would help promote the beautiful Highlands that its situated in ..
Positive experience: Service at the bar was dire. Barman made it very obvious he did not want to be there. Very grumpy, impolite everything was a huge effort for him. However. Realising that as well as tending bar he was supposed to take food orders and serve food which is a bit much to expect of one person. Does not however excuse his attitude to customers who are paying his wages. If you do not want to deal with the public get out of hospitality, owners maybe employ more staff. Very inflexible with everything. From food to cancellation of a room. No give on either. Disappointing.
Negative experience: Enjoy your stay if you don't want coffee, a comfy bed, water pressure or a quie lt getaway. Forget breakfast. Apparently only large groups are able to enjoy the buffet. Nothing about this hotel was anything like as described on the website or in the photos. Even had an employee slam the cash drawer shut in response to me asking if they could still make a coffee after over hearing him tell the person in front of me, extremely rudely, 'we will open tomorrow' after being told at check in that coffee is served until the bar closes, 'just grab a bartender and they are happy to help' It was early enough in the evening that the bar was most certainly still open. AND to follow up, the coffee stand still wasn't open when we left the hotel the following morning at 930. There are plenty of other places to stay if you're looking to enjoy the area. Skip this one. It's not worth it. Maybe in the 90s it was.
Fantastic experience: We had an amazing time at Coylumbridge Hotel. I had put a note on our booking saying we were coming for our daughters 6th birthday weekend and when we arrived we got a lovely upgrade to a 2 bed family room which was great and they had decorated our daughters room with balloons, chocolates, a card and a voucher for free entry to the soft play and mini golf. The next morning at breakfast the staff arrived with chocolate cake and ice cream and sang happy birthday, they really made her feel like a princess. The facilities are great with so much to keep kids entertained. The service from staff was wonderful. Yes the rooms are rather dated but they were clean and beds were comfortable and had everything we needed, the rooms were extremely warm with the nice weather but fans were provided. We will most definitely be coming back.
Negative experience: We got the small double room and the room itself was okay, with two single beds pulled together to make one double bed. The issue was the sound insulation and the floor noise. We couldn’t sleep much as there were always individuals walking past our room which constantly initiated creeking noise throughout the room. Moreover, there was a blockage somewhere in the drainage which kept on making loud noises every time we turned the tap on. All in all, the facilities need upgrading, but I understand it won’t be done anytime soon as they have a steady stream of retired tourists in tour buses visiting the place without having alternate options.
Positive experience: A less than budget room (courtyard room with a mattress that has seen better days, no space to move, a blackout curtain too small, no decorations, door handle falling off, old mirror, toiletries just for 1), not helpful reception (rushed, never mentioned back parking and access to room to avoid a long walk) no food after 20.30. At least breakfast was decent. Definitely NOT value for money.
Negative experience: Great location,,, has lots of potential but needs a major revamp… smells horrible in lobby areas.. The smell hits you as soon as you enter the lobby and you realise you have made a mistake!! Rooms are shabby.. our room was burning hot on a warm day with heating set on full.. could not sleep all night.. beds are saggy and you feel the springs.. pool timings too restrictive.. will definitely not be coming back.. which is a shame as it’s a great location.. They have lots of activities on site but can’t get the basics right
Fantastic experience: had my reservations about my reservation after reading the reviews on here. I paid £66 on a last minute deal for a windowless room in the annexe and a breakfast. On arrival I had to queue up for about 15 minutes to check in but I was upgraded to a huge double room complete with window in the main hotel. The room was extremely clean. The bed, huge and comfortable and the pillows amazing! And various packets of free biscuits were also supplied. I went down to the pool and got in straight away and was surprised to find there was also a sauna. I had a beer and a quite reasonably priced pizza in the outside bar which was great with a Swiss chalet vibe to it. The staff were all really lovely and very helpful. The dinosaurs are a nice touch and are quite remarkable! The breakfast the following morning was the nicest buffet breakfast I have had in a very long time. I really cannot fault this hotel at all and it was the best hotel I have stayed in in quite a while.
Positive experience: Where to start, We have booked through Expedia we booked a dog friendly room cos we took our two girls with us. The room was stated as a queen bed, the bed where two single ones put together with two single mattress of a very questionable quality. The hotel is in a stunning position the staff is ok not incredibly friendly, and the room we were given didn’t reflect the pictures on the Expedia website, I understand is not the hotels fault even tho as a hotel been advertise on an external website I personally would check that the descriptions given are accurate. I will never book a double room cos the British beds are very small so we always go for queen or king size beds when booking a hotel. The sheets didn’t fitted the bed so I ended up with no sheet during the night and also the mattress cover didn’t fitted the mattress. The bathroom is ok, functional, but they don’t clean it either, meaning that I will remain with the poop attached on the WC for 3 days cos they don’t provide you with a toilet brush either. When this morning I pointed out the poor quality of the mattress and the issue with the linens been too short for the bed , the lady at the reception told me she would speak to the cleaners and sort it out. This was 8.30 this morning we came back at 14.30 room wasn’t done and on the floor in front of our room where some linens. When I asked what time the room will be ready, they said they would’t do the room. I just wanted to point out this is a Hotel that classifies 4 stars. Unreal. All night the light outside our room was flashing from under the door. A bit of a nightmare. They say they are dog friendly I say they tollerate dogs. With 5 dogs we take them often in dog friendly hotels and they are allowed also in the restaurants of those places. Here you have to get your food from the restaurant and sit at the reception. Anyway the hotel per-se is nice a part of those details that could be rectified and make it a more pleasant stay. PS we were about to book the suite and didn’t because it stated double bed. Now I have been told that dogs wouldn’t be allowed in the suite by the receptionist, that should be perhaps be specified. I am so disappointed with this place was supposed to be a nice weekend away to rest and here I am making my own bed, unbelievable. I won’t bother spending another holiday here I would have left but all the dogs friendly hotels near by are fully booked. I will complain to Expedia too for the lack of informations, we might have some higher expectations then other people that staid here, but when we go away we like to rest even if briefly, having to do my own bed and clean the toilet when in a hotel is not something I am looking forward too. When I complained to the receptionist this afternoon and asked if I could be given a rebound I have been told not got today cos it was passed 2pm but if you go on Expedia website it states 3pm. Maybe they should start communicating with each other in order to don’t distress customers . I have also been told by the receptionist that it is stated on their website that they don’t do the rooms up We looked and couldn’t find it anywhere. I think they should write it in capital Letters on the home page cos I would have never booked if I knew I had to make my own room. Is not a self catering place is a “4 star” hotel.
Positive experience: It's a 2 and half rounded up to a 3 star. Location amazing. Pet friendly big whoop. The main let down was the mattresses in the room, now we did say it was uncomfortable and the staff gave us a mattress topper which did help just not enough. Change them and it could easily be a 3/4 star review.
Fantastic experience: Just back from an amazing weekend spent at this hotel. I was a wee bit worried when booking as I'd seen so many negative reviews. This hotel is amazing especially if you have younger kids. There is so much to do including the pool, 2 games rooms, large play park, soft play and animatronic dinosaurs in the car park. Both nights we were there they had activities for the children including a clown. The room was clean and well maintained and if anything a wee bit on the warm side. Staff were all helpful and pleasant. Although we didn't have a meal in the evening we ate at the breakfast buffet two mornings and both times it was great with a large selection of both hot and cold items. A special shout to Andriy (excuse the spelling) who has worked there for 10 years. He was always warm and friendly and enjoyed speaking with customers. On finding out it was my daughters birthday during our stay. He went out of his way to make it even more special and memorable. Many thanks. We will definitely return
Positive experience: Not been here for years and it has changed. The restaurant , food was probably the best but looks luxury however the rooms are very dirty. There are broken windows, chipped surfaces, squeaky beds and more. It is in a nice area and has good facilities like the pool and arcade. I would maybe stay here again. Would however wish for a better room.
Fantastic experience: I last stayed here in December 2018 and decided to book again on 25/03/2023 for 1 night as a stopover visiting family whilst travelling down South. There were three of us and we checked in at 930pm. The hotel looked as good as last time when we pulled up. There were a few folk in the lounge as we walked to reception. We were attended to straight away and we received complementary room upgrades (Rooms 214 and 215). Our rooms were clean, tidy and modern. We didn't have dinner or breakfast so I can't comment on that although I did use the gym. There are less machines than I remembered but they were in good working order. The pool was closed for maintenance so I couldn't use it. The hotel seemed very quiet but I was very pleased with the facilities and would definitely come back again.
Positive experience: We booked in for 2 nights but only stayed 1 night. When we arrived we were told we had been upgraded to a family room we thought great. When we arrived in the room it was very dated, toilet didnt flush , maintance came to fix we had to wait in room till he fixed it, he kept talking to himself and moaning. The food is very expensive, lots of children running around bar area when people were trying to walk with drinks. The beds were very uncomfortable, noisy everytime you moved so we left early .
Fantastic experience: Nice Hotel. Really friendly helpful staff. Loads of room to park my truck. Had to leave early so wouldn't have made breakfast but was offered a lunch bag to take with me instead. Thanks again for a great stay.
Positive experience: Need to organise reception better. Its the first point of contact but lets the hotel down. Train staff and have more on at check-in time. Nice leisure facilities which helped. Breakfast was very good but bar food was very under whelming.
Positive experience: Dinner B&B for one night ,Staff are friendly and helpful but low on numbers ,whole hotel seems to be short on numbers .Our room was upgraded to a family room. The double beds are small . Low lighting in the room which i hate I do not like straining to read a book .WiFi works ok in the bedroom. The voucher entitled us to two drinks at the bar .Dinner is a buffet with a veg stir fry ,a stew ,fish and roast pork . There is a very attractive salad bar .Ice cream or a cake for a sweet .Food was fine . We did not look at the other facilities . The place looks tired and needs a makeover .however if you have kids it is ideal with a pool and it is not an expensive hotel
Fantastic experience: We stayed here during the kids school break and had a lovely time! The location is ideal, perfect for walks with the dogs, and a short distance away from Aviemore, Landmark and the Wildlife park. We stayed in a room which had bunk beds, which was deffo worth it! There was lots to do for the kids too, who loved the pool and the funhouse. The reviews are a bit mixed, but we loved it! The staff at the pool were so kind and accommodating especially when the VR machine stopped working, and everyone we met was lovely. a few staff in particular really made our stay. Vlad in the restaurant was very courteous and accommodating. Alex at the bar was efficient and friendly, and Sarah and Tetiana at reception were so nice and helpful to our kids, especially when they kept asking for change for the arcades. Will def come back here.
Fantastic experience: Great hotel. Very kid and dog friendly. Pool fab. Staff all really nice. Room, got free upgrade to family room. Beds have toppers, so nice and comfy, extra pillows in room. TV in room, plus Kettle. Rooms nice and warm, as was hotel. Lovely lounge and bar areas. Located in the most beautiful surroundings, just outside of Aviemore. Great beer selection from Cairngorm Brewery, on tap and bottled. Breakfast buffet good, as was the evening. On site resturant also good. It is a great place, where the staff could not be nicer. Ignore any negative reviews, stay at this hotel, it win't disapoint.
Positive experience: The staff were exceptionally helpful but the hotel itself is definitely in need of investment and not at all like it was when I stayed here 5 years ago. Back then I thought it was a bit posh, now I’d say it’s more like Butlins. I’d booked a small room so didn’t have high expectations and was grateful I could take my dog and very happy to find myself in a disabled room which was spacious and had a window. However, it seemed every dog in the hotel was in this corridor so you can imagine the grumbles at other dogs constantly passing. The rooms are also right next to an amusement arcade which was noisy all night (even at 2am when clearly no one is using it). The room needed a window open all the time to prevent it being too hot, even after I turned the radiator off, crazy given it was snowing outside. I was told it would only be cleaned once, not an issue, but it was never actually cleaned. The bathroom also had a very hot radiator which couldn’t be turned off under a mirror which meant anytime I used the mirror I caught myself on it. Food options are limited as there’s only availability Friday and Saturday night in the bar unless you’re flush with money and able to afford £25 for the buffet in the restaurant. The pool was lovely but it’s small so can be difficult to swim laps as it can be busy but having a sauna was great. It’s has limited opening hours and you need to book too. I could have scored this really low but the staff were very helpful and it’s great it’s dog friendly. However I won’t be staying here when I come up to aviemore next year.
