Negative experience: I've been going to these gyms for half a year and I'll say ... Dirt and stench ,in the sauna stinks terribly, the jacuzzi is cold, Lockers in the changing room are dirty, the pool is full of people, the grandparents are offended, the equipment often doesn't work, they increased the subscription fee by 10 but nothing has changed, once I pointed out the lockers in the changing room were very dirty but unfortunately no one listened to my complaint because the second time it was the same... Renovation and cleaning staff are needed. Terrible experience I stoped walking there

Negative experience: Stuff very friendly and helpful but It's dirty, the lockers in the changing rooms are dirty and dusty, and the sauna stinks, the showers are also in serious need of renovation. I think that this money could clean it up better and do a renovation.

Positive experience: Gym staff excellent. Wish they'd enforce customers cleaning equipment after use. So many leave pools of smelly sweat on equipment! It is vile. Please put signs on each machine, send out emails, post on SM.

Positive experience: In general I am happy with the gym, the swimming pool, and the staff. One member of staff (the lady with the green hair, a DM I think) has been especially helpful in finding answers to my various questions. Instead of saying something inaccurate, she actually says things like "I am not sure but I will find out" and she comes back with precise answer. Also, she has credibility as she works out regularly in the gym so she knows what it feels like to be a member. One thing that is annoying is that the gym doesn't have a vibrating machine. When I asked why not, the answers that I got from various PT were very unsatisfied such as "the equipment that we use doesn't make a vibrating plate". Surely it's possible to acquire a vibrating plate from another manufacturer. Some of the vibrating plates are actually registered on the MHRA as medical devices (like the one in Pure Gym) so not getting one is not great customer service and a bit inconsistent with the well being moto. Another problem, is that sometimes the floor gets quite dirty in the changing room especially on Saturday with all the kids. Otherwise, I like that the gym has plenty of natural light on the first floor, it's great to work out. I also like the fact that the classes are for all the ages. This is a very inclusive gym and I hope it stays this way.

Positive experience: Bywam w Nuffield, kiedy jestem w Edynburgu. Siłowni przydałby się remont odświeżający, ale poza tym nie mam się do czego przyczepić :) Obsługa jest przesympatyczna, uśmiechnięta i zawsze chętna do pomocy. Dbają o czystość sprzętu, pomagają w jego poprawnym użytkowaniu. Sama wyposażenie też spełnia wszystkie standardy.

Positive experience: Me and my wife have been going here with membership for most of this year now, 2025. We are more than happy with the facilities. The staff are always on hand to fix any issues immediately. Occasionally when classes are on the pool is exclusively used by the class that is being run. That said, prior notice is available of these times. Gym machines are cleaned on a regular basis. I would said if found to be dirty it is because the member prior had not cleaned it properly when finished.

Negative experience: Filthy, cracked tiles and abysmal facilities for the price. The Marriott or Sheraton is much nicer for the price you pay. Staff are not trained in dealing with people with neurodivergence issues.

Negative experience: updating my review to ask that you not turn all the machines off in the cardio room at 9.35pm. also having your staff with their coats on stood at the entrance at 9.50pm looks incredibly unprofessional. don’t advertise that you close at 10pm and then make members feel awkward for still being in there at 9.40.

Positive experience: It’s okay, in need of a little TLC in areas, fresh coat of paint and repairs. Classes are good, spa is okay, jacuzzi is cold. Steam room is great! Good selection of weights and equipment. Staff are nice and helpful

Negative experience: Ah, Nuffield Health, the gym where dreams go to die... or at least where they slip on dirty floors and trip over broken doors. Let's start with the basics: lockers are keyless (and not in the fancy digital way), floors look like they’ve hosted a mud wrestling championship, and the sauna? Oh, it’s giving off the unique aroma of rotten tuna blended with haunted gym socks. Delicious. Walking into this place feels like entering a dystopian fitness novel. The turnstiles at the entrance are as dependable as a soap opera romance—always broken. You’ll stand there awkwardly while the receptionist pretends they’re hacking the Pentagon, only to press a single button like it’s their life’s work. Then there’s the staff... or should I say, the cast of a low-budget horror movie. There’s a lurking homunculus with blue hair, shaped like a human if a squash had opinions. This cryptid appears out of nowhere, sending any shred of optimism you had flying faster than your gym towel. And how could I forget the manager? Picture this: a 5'5" individual rocking boyshort hair and a permanent scowl, strutting around in black jeans and boots like a gym-themed dictator. Honestly, I’m pretty sure my membership price hike coincided with their reign of terror. Let’s not gloss over the vibe here. This gym is a walking, wheezing example of post-lockdown burnout. Every fourth member seems to be either one step away from a medical intervention or has aged so rapidly they might’ve seen the Jurassic era firsthand. It’s like a retirement home for bad decisions. To add insult to injury, they’ve shut off the air conditioning (because why not?), filled the jacuzzi with pebbles (for that DIY pond aesthetic), and—brace yourself—increased my bill by £10/month. Apparently, less is more... if you're talking about facilities, not money. The once-serious trainers? Gone. The elite athletes? Ghosted. What remains is a gym held together by duct tape, despair, and the faint smell of crushed dreams. Bottom line? I was willing to ignore the missing jacuzzi as long as the price stayed the same. But now, with fewer facilities, more issues, and higher costs, this gym feels like a bad investment—and I’m seriously weighing my options (unlike their broken scale, which definitely isn’t). So, dear Nuffield Health, thank you for teaching me that fitness isn’t just about working out; it’s also about enduring existential crises and the smell of rotten tuna.

Negative experience: Disappointing that the pool is completely closed to accomodate huge aqua classes rather than having the pool open for lane swimmers and smaller aqua classes more frequently. Win win.

Negative experience: Small gym, small sauna, small steam room, low temperatures. Pool always busy. looks like a day care for old people.

Negative experience: In need of complete renovation. Many cubicles, lockers, sinks, driers, spa pools, and machines are broken / not working, windows broken, holes in wall etc. Not as clean as it use to be either, changing rooms and sink areas filthy, filthy machines, posers taking selfies, kids running round screaming most of the time in pool area, adult only areas not adhered too (changing rooms) and generally its just a stressful and unpleasant place to be. Even the front desk staff need a good lesson in professionalism! Not a patch on Fountain Park. It's really gone downhill the last couple of years, so have decided to move gyms.

Negative experience: Terrible treatments - forced me to pay 49£ and sending debt collectors for an appointment they didn't even confirm and could not even pick up the phone to check why I did not attend or reschedule - tried to liaise with their site manager & customer service and it was the same poor handling - worst experience with an organization for a while - avoid unless you want to be robbed.

Negative experience: Today you announced that Helen Flannigan would no longer have a Zumba class at Chesser .This woman is a club institution, been there since the start.Please remember many of the older members have supported the club for years,year in year out,Does it matter that her classes aren't always full?At least we can get into.them without booking 8 days ahead at 7am in the morning. Think on,Nuffield.

Negative experience: It’s ok. Only one bench press. Overall a bit tired and could use an upgrade in areas. My main complaint is that they NEVER use the air con so it’s absolutely roasting. Especially in the summer, they said it was because it was controlled by head office which is just nonsense. And even if that were true - contact your head office and get it turned on.

Fantastic experience: Overall great gym and service from staff. It is very popular with the older generation (respectfully). Only niggles.....often lots of football chat in the mornings...all harmless but does get repetitive. Also, if your body conscious this might not be the gym for you....it is very liberal in the changing area for want of a better term :-)

Positive experience: Very pleasant staff. Enjoy the pool and steam room. The gym is good too. Changing rooms are a little dated and tired though adequate , good showers too.

Fantastic experience: Dott. MATTHEWS change my life. After more than 6 months with weekly review by gp and 2 letter of waiting list from NHS dermatologist department meet him has been a blessed . I was suffering with a severe skin issue and the treatment he gave me has been the only one working . Professional, kind and honest he explain to me in a simple way I can understand. He focus on the issue and find the right step to follow. I will never thank him enough . Highly advice the clinic and all the professionists working there .

Negative experience: Run down changing rooms Missing locker doors Dirty floors Dirty shower area Members clearing their noses and throats in shower and spitting out in showers cubicles … really disgusting!!! Needs to stop ..!!

Negative experience: My wife has come back after being to Nuffield at Chesser. She went for a swim, and when trying to retrieve her towel, found it was no longer there. She had placed her wash bag over the towel, so it appears it was stolen. Supposedly, according to a staff member, this is the third incident recently where this has happened. However, what is worse is the way she was treated by the staff. When she told them what happened, she received no help in terms of being given anything to use to dry herself. She asked if she could get anything, and eventually (and reluctantly) was given some blue roll to use. Minimal effort was made to come up with a solution. To have your towel stolen at Nuffield is poor, to then be treated in this way is really unacceptable. It's been interesting to see the development of Nuffield recently. No longer can you lower weights loudly on platforms which are designed for this, the heated jacuzzi(s) have been closed due to their expense. Yet, membership has not reduced. You would assume a concerted effort would be made to make sure staff are professional (which you would like to think would include empathy), and maybe could lend a towel from the physio room to someone who has just had their own towel taken and is soaking wet. I sent in a complaint to Nuffield, and received a reply saying they would like to set up a phone call to discuss further. However, after providing them with a time, I heard no further response. Hopefully this review can prepare others for what to expect.

Negative experience: Consistently dirty, mouldy & dilapidated changing rooms, showers, toilets & sauna area. The gym is okay. New photo a few weeks on.. still dirty, disgusting & mouldy. *Edit 2 Day 245 of disgusting, dirty & mouldy changing rooms. Now there is dried in blood or food in another of the cubicles.

Fantastic experience: Comprehensive gym with swimming pool, jacuzzi,steam room and sauna. Also has a cafe

Positive experience: Great classes and nice spa facilities, but shockingly terrible air quality. It's suffocating inside and apparently nothing can be done about that. Imagine that using a fan at the gym is the proposed solution! Some people like working out in a stuffy sauna, so this place is for them.

Negative experience: Unfortunately going down hill. First the spa was closed temporarily then closed permanently due to rising energy costs. This is then followed by another price increase due to rising energy costs. I feel this is now an excuse. Services have become poorer. Gym equipment that is out of service is usually not fixed for a long time. One treadmill was out of action for 7 weeks! Shower doors etc need fixed but haven’t been. Not great

Negative experience: Used to be pretty good pre-covid, but it's obviously been mismanaged for the last couple of years. There are a half dozen better gyms in Edinburgh. Combine the state of the place with their shady business practices, and I'd never go back to a Nuffield. If you need to cancel a membership, make sure to get everything in writing because the admin side of things is shockingly inept too, and they'll do all they can to rob you.

Negative experience: Joined this gym and at first everything was fine, good decent equipment plenty classes etc. Things went down hill from there, first they closed the cafe, then they shut the spas temporarily and now permanently. You would think as a business you would want to keep all facilities open rather than risk lots of lost revenue through people leaving, personally know quite a few people cancelling contracts. Could have been good but poor decisions have spoiled it.

Negative experience: Very much going downhill. Good facilities in general and quality gym equipment however there are regularly issues with cleanliness and today we were informed that the spa pools will be closed permanently.

Negative experience: Have used this gym before. Up visiting my Mum for Christmas. Facilities are great. Used their sauna and when I returned to my towel it had been taken. Told the lifeguard who said I should go into the mens changing room and see if I can find who has it. Looked around but couldn’t identify my towel. Could have easily been a lady that picked it up. Returned to the lifeguard who called reception and said they didn’t have towels on site and couldn’t help me. Was told my best bet was to wait around the showers and see if I spotted who had taken it… Was pretty angry about being told while I’m dripping wet in only swim shorts that they can’t offer any assistance. Originally I only wanted them to provide a towel and I wasn’t bothered about losing a towel. Following the poor customer service I called the manager after leaving as I wanted to be offered compensation for the bad service. Was told all they can offer is an apology. Never experienced such bad customer service in my life. They said the reason they don’t have towels on site is people kept stealing them so was a bit shocked they have passed that problem onto their customers. The only option I was left with was either steal someone else’s towel or sit around until I was dry and leave. I drip dried and got out of there!

Positive experience: Very nice gym, one thing I will say is a punching bag or two would be a great addition to the gym

Fantastic experience: Been a member a month now, being disabled, the fact from car to pool is 2min is fantastic, no stairs. Great pool.. Love it..

Positive experience: Nice bright gym area. Changing rooms are not the best but the gym equipment is good and there’s plenty of cardio equipment which is newish and well kept. If you want to see what bad gym management and appalling customer service is try David Lloyd.

Fantastic experience: Recently joined and have used pool/steam/sauna/jacuzzi excellent facilities. Everywhere is clean, the staff are friendly great customer service. I have a yoga class booked next week and hope to use gym after an induction. The gym is big with lots of varied machines.

Fantastic experience: If I could give 10 stars I would! I booked to come for a session on classpass, but the morning of my baby was teething and I reluctantly had to call and cancel. Classpass are RUTHELESS with cancellations so I was already stressed about that + the stress of a sick baby, but when I called up I was immediately put at ease by the amazing receptionist, Emma. She was so lovely, so understanding, and said I could come in tomorrow if it suited me. Gyms are notoriously quite intimidating places, but the customer service here was so great that you'd find it hard to not feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. I was given a full tour by the lovely duty manager, then had a swim and shower that felt like I'd had a day the spa. Honestly, I was having a really bad week and the simple acts of kindness at this place just completely turned it around. Great people, great gym. Would 10000% reccomend.

Fantastic experience: I have been blown away by how friendly and helpful the staff and clientèle are. The kindness and community is so refreshing. Everything is always clean and all the services are first class. Cannot rate the Chesser branch enough

Negative experience: AWFUL, SNOBBERY and UNFRIENDLY people and lifeguard. AWFUL experience. Do not go here if you have more than one child. Not child friendly at all and not understanding of having young children and adults wanting to swim while also able to watch and look after children. Complained to the manager and receptionist. The lifeguard has no social skills and met with passive aggressive behaviour by lifeguard and will never return to swim at this boring, snobby and unfriendly pool. You go to swim to relax and enjoy time with children, it is not a time to be made to feel un relaxed and not welcome.

Negative experience: Have only been a few times but have found the tiles around the jacuzzi and swimming pool so slippy and finally I slipped and broke my arm. I think the slimy water from the jacuzzi bubbles over on to the tiles and makes it treacherous to walk on.. Wont be going back anytime soon .

Fantastic experience: First impressions and seems a great place. staff are helpful and friendly all facilities were clean and tidy. I did notice the shower rooms was abit smelly at first BUT after a swim there were cleaners in cleaning. Just thought I would write this review because there's alot of negative reviews for this place.

Negative experience: Would have preferred zero star but not an option. After 19 years my husband ended his contract, visited using a guess pass 2 members of staff offered a new deal on signing up told couldn't have it total incompetence at all levels

Negative experience: Average gym, terrible customer service and seems the purposefully make it difficult to cancel even if you pay the extra for a month rolling contract. would not recommend

Positive experience: Gym area is good with modern equipment and plenty of benches. It’s also never really overly busy like some gyms. Pool is good but the sauna / jacuzzi / steam room is showing it’s age so that knocks a star off.

Fantastic experience: Ian Fisher the Operations Manager is always very helpful and takes on board issues members may have pertaining to the gym. Anna Reilly personal trainer is also fantastic at both giving advice regarding fitness/ training and keeping the general gym area clean and tidy. Gosha the life guard and the female cleaner who works 5 evenings a week are also brilliant, and work very hard for the benefit of members at the gym.

Negative experience: Was told one thing over the phone then a different thing in person when I was cancelling. I wouldn’t of had to pay an extra month if the person on the phone told me the correct info. Obviously annoyed with the end of contract bs and won’t be coming back ever then.

Positive experience: Nice gym, with good equipment, the classes that they offer are amazing, they have excellent class instructors. however lockers and equipment are not always clean. The membership is based in 12 month contact which you will not be able to exit at least you have a reallocation. You need to be very carefully when you cancel your membership because they can continue charging the gym's fees after its cancellation. Such as my case, that they continue charging me the membership fee and I did not notice until now, I did email them complaining about this matter and I am still waiting for an answer.

Positive experience: The gym is nice, with good equipment and is always kept clean. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are nice to have as well and the staff are always friendly. However the pool is small and is often full of kids. If you are planning do any actual swimming there is only one small lane that fills up quickly. I have read people complaining that its not family friendly but i don't find this be true. Having said that it's a gym, it's not meant to be kid friendly. If you want to teach your kid to swim, take them to a public pool.

Negative experience: Poor and aggressive communications with gym staff. Otherwise great selection of gym equipment.

Fantastic experience: Great range of services, good kit on the gym floor, excellent physio service, there always seem to be cleaners keeping the place nice, and all round the staff are lovely.

Fantastic experience: Excellent brand new technogym equipment on the gym. It's very nice place and swimming pool is fantastic!

Negative experience: You need to take your own weights to body pump as there isn't enough small weights. People take 2 and 3 sets of small weight so in sufficient for other members.

Fantastic experience: Was in Edinburgh on business and was based 5min from the Gym, used it every day. The staff are super helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Credit where it’s due and it’s definitely due here. Cheers Guys

Positive experience: The facilities are reasonable for the price and if you are an adult living within the vicinity it might be worth it. That being said, I don't think the place is particularly family friendly. There are times when large parts of the pool are shut off for lessons leaving your child only a quarter of the pool which is filled with other customers (usually OAPs). As the purpose of taking your child to a pool is usually to teach them to swim, it prevents you from doing this in a meaningful way. If you take your child into the lanes (even if they are fully capable of keeping up), you will be met with the lifeguard barking at you to get out. It seems as if everytime we go, the lifeguard enforces yet another pendantic rule of something we cannot do (e.g. I have to physically be in the spa when my child goes in it.)

Negative experience: Rubbish gym, old equipment, some of the equipment doesnt work, the staff are a joke (very unfriendly and dont seem to take things seriously + incompetent), the gym is dirty ie dust on tops of equipment and I will add they only cleaned this one day before they had an inspection. Waste of money. Im only paying as Im locked into a contract otherwise I would love to spend my money at a better gym.

Negative experience: Worst run gym I've came across in a while. Equipment out of use for considerable periods of time and some of the staff only interested in chatting to/up members. OAPs /retirees seem to think they own the gym and moan constantly about children in the swimming pool despite children being allowed to use the pool at certain times. Not family friendly.

Positive experience: Very good facilities but misses out on luxury touches expected for membership price eg conditioner in showers or free towels.

Negative experience: Avoid membership at all costs!! The jacuzzi and sauna are continually out of working order and it always takes several days to fix. Management and other staff are never friendly nor professional and the Personal Trainers have no interest in giving any help unless they are paid for a private session. Complete waste of money. I am now a member at Bannantynes and find it far superior in every regard.

Negative experience: Faulty boiler and equipment and they don’t seem to want to invest in a new boiler so the hot water for the pool and showers is often not working. Botch job repairs seems to be how the like to do it. Locker keys are also broken and lockers are stiff to open or close. Has a lot of potential with some investment.

Negative experience: Poor customer service. Expensive.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with loads of facilities. The staff are great especially the reception staff... There is one young lady their with dark hair always wears a jacket... she is always upbeat with a great smile for all clients when they come in. Great value for money. And money does not always come into the equation when you need to stay healthy and fit. Keep up the great work Nuffield *****

Positive experience: Plenty parking spaces now .

Positive experience: Fair place with plenty squeezed into a compact building. Beware though the gym is over subscribed so at peak times certain areas may become unusable such as issues getting on equipment in gym or pool too full. Just use the function on Google maps which shows you the peak footfall times and avoid them accordingly. Other that that issue it's clean a day tidy with no major issues.

Fantastic experience: Really helpful staff. Always just there when you need them, it's the people here that make this a really great place to get healthier.
