Sevenoaks Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: it's not clean, some machines have half inch thick layer of dust on it. No to mention the shower walls with patches of brownish slime, seriously it's gross.
Negative experience: Feel quite bad managed, booked personal training session a week advance, when attended no one show up. The receptionists are quite helpful!
Positive experience: Friendly staff, clean facilities and reasonably easy to use app for booking
Fantastic experience: Took my boy to the roller disco which he really enjoyed. He done ok for his second time.
Fantastic experience: Lovely food
Positive experience: Friendly staff, user friendly booking system and a good 25 metre pool.
Fantastic experience: Just love the classes I go to all the teachers are excellent. Good friendly atmosphere . Swimming pool and gym are excellent.
Negative experience: The staff at this environment are unwelcoming and don’t treat other staff members with respect or dignity as some boys/men employees like to flirt with the girls/women and ruin there chances of staying in the job because they kindly and respectfully reject them, I have also been told by other members of Sevenoaks that an employee who use to be a lifeguard and has now been promoted has taken part in PG activities in the children swimming pool. Keep your kids safe from applying to this job and using the swimming pool after knowing this information.
Positive experience: An average everyone active experience. Layout is quite confusing not a criticism but is not the most clear. Place is generally clean and nice to be in. I specifically went to gym , gym is good has enough equipment. If you’re into weight lifting it could do with a couple extra machines. Didn’t go during rush hour but wouldn’t recommend. The layout of half the gym downstairs is unusual but kinda cool can’t complain. Overall an average mediocre everyone active gym. Nice atmosphere was really hoping for sauna and steam room considering the size of establishment though.
Positive experience: I come here for swimming. Compared to other leisure centres that I go to, this one is different in that you are charged to use the lockers (only 25p but I’ve never come across chargeable lockers anywhere). Parking is also now chargeable, even on a Sunday evening. Customer service wise, staff didn’t even look up or acknowledge me when I walked in. I hoped they would look my way because not being from Sevenoaks, I wanted to ask how do I scan my phone to enter the facility. They also made an announcement at 1955 to say the centre was closing in 5 mins. I panicked because I was using the shower at this point and knew I’d never be ready in 5 mins. Then I realised there were quite a few more people and that the staff just wanted us out asap. The pool is nice and so are the showers and so I would go back for a swim.
Positive experience: 2.5 stars with great location.
Negative experience: Poor time keeping and rude staff who were disinterested in any queries. When we book the badminton courts either they are not ready on time or in one instance had water spilled on it. No one came to help as they were short staffed. Appalling!
Fantastic experience: A lovely swimming pool with a very clean change room. I booked a swim slot on the Everyone Active app. There is a slow, medium and fast lane. If you park in the parking lot outside then you get 2 hours free parking by entering your vehicle registration number on the machine inside the leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Great Aqua Zumba with Kat Henry. Lovely to see Jane at reception. Water was pleasantly warm - Hooray
Negative experience: Wouldn't recommend. Changed my membership from concession to adult even though I proved I fit the concession membership criteria with a birth certificate. The app timetable didn't match what actually was happening at the leisure centre.
Negative experience: Swimming pool closed since last Sunday afternoon with no repair schedule in place, swim sessions are simply cancelled and no compensation plan in place for swim memberships. No alternative swimming pools offered either. Extremely poor customer service.
Negative experience: I don't know why staff , can't tell u the truth about the swimming pool, I have rung a few times to ask about the pool and was told that someone will ring me to tell me if they were opening or not , as I have a membership, as a membership I can't use, look on website and said they were closed (Tuesday ) so didn't go for my swim then later on went to have a look to see if there was a update and they said they were open ... so probably could have gone ...I have look on my app to do with swimming and they are close again... and again no phone call...what the point of paying for a membership and u can't use it...,
Negative experience: We visited the leisure centre recently. Reception looks welcoming but reception staff seemed quite vacant and very disorganised when making enquiries and trying to get tickets. We live in Bromley and travelled to this leisure centre as not been since senico or whatever they were called bankrupted it. Sadly we won't be returning in a hurry. They charge for each pool separately which seems unreasonable especially as the pool had only a few people swimming. This is strictly monitored by the life guards who seem to enjoy their over enthusiastic stance and stamping their authority. I think everyone in the large pool was approached about whether or not they had paid. Strictly 1 hour time slots to the second. You will be asked to leave even if, as like us, there was only around 10 people across two pools. The main pool is absolutely freezing. I could not get in it past my waist. On asking what the temperature was I was told about 27'c ish. The changing rooms, although reasonably clean were absolutely hyperthermic. The usual, obligatory leisure centre notice on the showers about 'recent' issues with temperature were there and look like a permanent feature. We tried using a changing cubic by the shower but changed to another as it had no door whatsoever. We moved to the cubical next to it which had no lock. The free hairdryer was very nice. Overall we found the main pool and changing rooms freezing cold as too was the reception staff and life guards welcoming. Hopefully the new company will improve things but sadly we won't be coming back.
Negative experience: Equipments (machine) are not enough, there's no even a chair for decline press u need yo use the chair/stool for abs/core,, the gym is for burning fats not for a body building, boring gym due to the lack of machines, payment method is direct debit(it's not good/hope they will change) they don't send a message thru email or sms if they're not open or they will close early, if there's other gym that near in my place i would love to transfer... i will suggest if you have a car (i don't have a car) go to other gym like pure gym... everyone active gym is 1/10 for me...i pay £35 every month(they take it direct into my debit card/bad payment method) and yet i don't use swimming pool or even the basketball gym, same amount of payment to the others who use all the facilities... that's why my friends go to pure gym that gym is way better than everyone active sevenoaks...everyone gym is way faaaarrrrr and behind, from their payment method till to the machines that they have, even the accessories of the machines are not enough... i don't recommend this gym at all...
Negative experience: Gym is okay, if poorly laid out, but I seem to spend half my time there clearing up weightlifting equipment that other members are too lazy/stupid to re-rack. Recent incidents include: 100kg+ barbells left on the floor, bumper plates mixed up with regular plates, 3 different plate sizes on one rack, collars on smith machines, collars between plates on racks, 120kg plates left abandoned on the leg press, and an 80kg barbell left on the bench press. Does Puregym have this problem?
Negative experience: I phoned the centre to ask a question relating to opening times. The person who answered was curt, failed to understand my question and then accused me of not listening to her. Hardly ideal for a new management company.
Fantastic experience: A perfect place for playing
Negative experience: We booked a badminton session at 8:30pm this evening and had a terrible experience with the reception staff. There was blaring music playing on the speakers and it was interfering with the game. We reached out to the reception (manned by Emma and a yoga instructor) and requested that the volume be turned down, and we were shocked to get a really rude response. They came back with "the music doesnt bother me", "it is part of the center policy to play the music" and got confrontational about it and even asked us to "go play somewhere else". When we came up a second time to ask, she came back with "how much time do you have left on your slot?" and then reduced the volume a bit and got really petty at the end of our slot. The staff seem to be on a power trip and are unfortunately turning away people who want to support the community center.
Fantastic experience: Great local Lesuire centre. Usally clean facilities and staff are friendly and helpful.
Positive experience: It was one of the hottest days of the year when we decided to visit the pool, and it was certainly a perfect choice. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the water was a heavenly cool respite from the heat. The poolside area and changing rooms were also just the right temperature. If you live in Sevenoaks, it’s important to take advantage of and support your local pool, or you may risk losing it. Don’t wait until it’s too late – get a swim in while you still can.
Positive experience: Clean, good value. Kids enjoyed the leaning pool
Positive experience: Tried calling to cancel a class .. 2 hrs ago and still no answer !@@@ the website should be set up to let u cancel on line very frustrating
Positive experience: Good value, equipment could do with regular TLC - not all are Internet connected to track your performance or log into distractive entertainment. But all classes included and usually easy to get around as not overly busy.
Fantastic experience: great spin and grit classes friendly trainers free parking
Fantastic experience: Ever since the opening of a certain gym franchise nearby, the leisure centre has been super quiet. As much as it makes it more comfortable having less people to wait on machines and weights, this place deserves a little more love from the community in these times. They've lost so much members and its painful to see. Wishing for more members to come
Negative experience: Helpful staff and kind patrons, but the centre needs updating to 21st century. Attended a birthday party , roller disco - nothing like disco and a broken coffee machine. Overall a great place just left to go to waste.
Fantastic experience: Really friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Fantastic class programme with great instructors. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: We visited the pool on the hottest day of the year and it was perfect. The staff were friendly, the water was blissfully cool and the poolside area and changing rooms were just the right temperature too. However, the pool was very quiet. We had a lane to ourselves. Nice for us, but leisure centres across the country are under threat post pandemic. So come on Sevenoaks, use your local pool or you may lose it. Just saying …
Fantastic experience: A great leisure centre in the heart of Sevenoaks with a fully equipped modern gym, a lovely 25m pool (plus a training pool for youngsters), a sports hall, a wide range of exercise classes asvwell as extra activities such as a weekly roller disco. Full membership gives you free access to the centre and classes, including free parking for 2 hours and free lockers. The only minor issue is that many classes are bookable online 7 days in advance but are often full within 5 minutes of the system opening at 6am!
Negative experience: Swimming pool is outdated. Compared to others such as tunbridge. Sevenoaks pool needs some serious money spent to improve. A disappointing experience.
Negative experience: Whole centre seems very poorly managed. Cleanliness around pool and changing areas leaves a lot to be desired and shoe covers are rarely available. Childrens swimming lessons feel overcrowded and restricted to a small area of the pool instructors often absent with lessons cancelled at short notice. Considering Sevenoaks was recently voted one of the best places to live in the south east the leisure centre leaves a lot to be desired,
Fantastic experience: It's the place to be early in the morning. In the pool or in a class it definitely wakes you up.
Negative experience: Have tried to come swimming twice and both times been turned away as the teaching pool was closed. No indication on the website either time. Second time we called ahead to make sure it was open and was told it was, paid for parking and when we got inside was told the teaching pool was closed again. Customer service was awful both times. Such a disappointment.
Negative experience: Very poor customer service, and they never keep to committed Pool times on the website and incredibly filthy in changing room make sure you take flip-flops
Negative experience: Very poor service pool raised to 1 meter so you cannot swim without touching floor. Changing area covered in mud as no one cleaning people allowed to walk into the pool area with outside shoes on. When questioned the depth of the pool was told it was not there problem. Definitely not returning to swim here
Positive experience: This is just a review of the gym, I haven't used the pool. The gym is OK. Cardio equipment is smart with touchscreens and TV built in, but don't seem that well maintained - a few things are out of order, some of the bikes are very squeaky and the TV isn't connected on several of the machines. There are plenty of machines that work OK however. I do like that the cardio machines are in a big window so you can look outside. There are mats for stretching on which are unfortunately very dirty and also right in the middle of the walkway through the gym. I haven't used them, but there are also quite a few weights machines, plus free weights downstairs, also classes which I haven't tried. There are signs up in the car park and locker room saying thieves are operating so I keep my stuff with me in the gym and haven't had any problems. Some of the clientele don't give off the best vibe, and I've seen receptionists get shouted at for no reason, but I guess that's just what a basic gym like this is like. The staff on the front desk are helpful and polite but always seem a bit stressed. The lady who did my gym induction was very friendly and welcoming. It was good they were able to fit me in with no notice, as at the front desk they said it's better to call ahead. If you want to do an ad-hoc monthly membership you have to fill out a paper form every time, which takes like 10 minutes and seems like a waste of time for both you and the staff. There's also fairly often a queue at the front desk. In terms of how busy the gym is, for cardio it's never been so busy that I couldn't get a treadmill or a bike. At opening first thing in the morning it's fairly quiet, and in the early afternoon on a weekday it's very quiet. Evenings seem to be a fair bit busier. At £50 a month for the gym it seems really overpriced. It's not really any better than Puregyms I've used at 1/4 the price. You have to get a membership that includes the pool even if you're never going to use the pool, which is ridiculous. We're not talking a nice health club pool with a sauna etc that you might just go for a dip in anyway, it's a full leisure centre pool in another part of the building, which you'd only visit if you were going for a proper swim, and is only open to the public at certain times. I'm aware that health clubs with pools are way more expensive. I'm just saying that this is basically a very expensive basic gym with a cheap puregym vibe, plus a mandatory pool membership that a lot of people will never use and is probably driving up the price unnecessarily. It's the only real option in Sevenoaks for a normal gym so I guess they take advantage of that with the pricing. You can also pay per visit at around £12 which is OK to try it out but obviously not reasonable if you're coming often. One other random comment, the website is infuriating to use. It's really hard to find basic information and text is completely superfluously animated, appearing on the page really slowly as you're scrolling down. Needs a rethink. Overall it's fine and I wouldn't tell people to stay away if they want to use the gym, it's just not particularly great. Three stars might seem harsh, would have been 4 if it wasn't overpriced.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities!
Negative experience: Review Date: 21st June 2023: I haven't used this place since Everyone Active took it over, probably 2 or 3 months ago. I don't like the fact that they expect everyone to find out about what they offer through a Smartphone (which I don't have) or computer. In the not too distant past the Centre (under Sencio, who ran it previously) would provide a leaflet to let you know what the swim times were and posters within the Centre let you know about the classes they offered and I think what the swim times were. When I enquired I was told that they don't let people pay in cash for say, one off swims - another example of service providers passing their costs on to their users. I can't imagine that Everyone Active is offering anything much different from that of Sencio in the way of activities and I was told - but don't know for myself - that the time available for swims is limited to only one hour now - before the Covid outbreak you could have spent all say, Sunday morning and afternoon in the pool should you have so wished.
Positive experience: I enjoy the early morning classes and the variety of fitness equipment. The instructors and trainers are great. Needs improvement: The monitors of the rowing machines need fixing. The receptionist could occasionally try and squeeze out a smile/hello.
Negative experience: Pools are freezing cold and miserable to swim in. The kids are eager to swim but put off by the icebergs floating past! The teaching pool feels more like a prison camp with no natural light anymore. Toddler pool is also closed now. The changing area is unpleasant and run down with broken locks on doors and smelly full nappy bins. Go to the larkfield or tonbridge pools. They at least seem to care and are a lot warmer.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with excellent facilities. Great value for money! Important to support local places like this.
Negative experience: Says shuts at 1800 when it shuts at 1600 on Sunday, update , not hard
Negative experience: Rude receptionist who is incompetent doing anything, don't understand how she has a job also spoke to me while having her mask as a neck warmer
Positive experience: Class was kept to 45 minute maximum to allow 15 minutes to clean the equipment. With only 5 people allowed per class it was easy to social distance. Well thought out to provide that extra comfort and safety that is required for the older gym users
Fantastic experience: Thank you!
Negative experience: I rang the pool before to confirm the giant inflatables were going to be out as per the website, 11.30am -12.30am. The idea was to keep two grandchildren entertained for a hour or so. When we got into the pool the staff said they are too short staffed to put the inflatables up. It seems other families had been told the same thing and were not too impressed. Disappointing
Positive experience: It could be so much more but for lack of imagination and, I suspect, funding. Typical privately run under-resourced community sports hub and screams out for a change. Counsellors - Get rid of Scencio and find a worthwhile partner with new ideas and ambition.
Negative experience: Gym is very oversold on the number of people using it compared to the equipment, have tried coming peak and off peak times and still find myself only left with the treadmill and the odd weights machine. i do think it would be a good idea if the member of staff in the gym does walk around to prevent people hogging machines.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant gym and the staff are really friendly and more than happy to help
Fantastic experience: My local!
Negative experience: Poor quality
Negative experience: Sevenoaks leisure centre is running on hope... so sad. Every time I visit I am let down one way or another. Today, due to the website not being updated to out of term time, I turned up 2 hrs early for swimming.. waited 2 hrs which isnt easy with a 2 year old only to be told by reception that the toddler pool is closed due to something being wrong with the water quality and they don’t know when it will be back up and running!! Surely in this day and age and the fact that every other centre near the area never has these issues, this should not happen! The toddler pool hasn’t even been open that long due to a refurbishment which didn’t update the facility whatsoever. Just save yourself the hassle and either go to tonbrige, Bromley or tandrige.. they know how to run a centre properly. I even asked to use the gym out of membership a few times a week and was told that would be £10 a session!! Haha Lastly the main pool is too cold for toddlers, my child just shivers the whole time.. hence the toddler pool/small sheep dip by the look of it.
Positive experience: not enough parking and small gym space sometimes you have to wait for equipment.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and great instructors
Negative experience: It used to be an okay gym but since the refurbishment there's fewer pieces of equipment and floor mats the end result means more hanging around waiting for people to finish so that the kit can be used. It's definitely a case now of style over substance.
Fantastic experience: New gym is fab
Positive experience: Nice place, clean and friendly.
Negative experience: Came here to swim. Never again. Filthy pool changing area and toilet. Stank of babies nappies and floor was completely wet and muddy with hair everywhere. The pool only uses rope as Lane dividers instead of proper ones and as someone trying to train it just makes it a bit more annoying. Very old feel and look to this centre. And you have to pay parking too. Can’t actually think of anything good to say....
Fantastic experience: Staff and instructors are very friendly and helpful, facilities are wide ranging and well used.
Positive experience: good facilities- sports hall is a bit old now though
