Negative experience: Virgin active Hammerthmith branch is not only extremely dirty with certain trainers plain angry and showing it when you don’t pick them . I am training privately with Jhon which is amazing 3 times a weeks in Muay Thai preparing to go back to Thailand and train there. Paying through direct debit for 3 months of training with him so Virgin is making a Litle pot of money out of me … I train 6 days a week there (private 3 day) Today after my private class I was doing leg presses on the leg press machine as I have hip displasia which means that I miss a piece of bone on each side of my hips (my femur can dislocate) when a very odd, bit dirty and disheveled looking individual started gesticulating angrily while I was pressing the weight up . Could not hear him as I had my head phones on so had to lower the weights and take off my head phones. He started screaming saying I could not have my bag (which contains all my boxing gear , gloves , wraps, shin guards and many other pieces of equipment that I use to train with every day that this club does not have as jumping rope, neck flection tools, loop bands etc…discs… my water, vitamins The man went on a rant of a good 5 mins without presenting himself, not wearing a uniform or tag interrupting my workout in midair which means I could injure myself. What bothered me is that he said I’m not saying you are stealing anything and kept rambling stuttering in a very broken English. Worst part of it is that I have been training at this gym since last September and never so the guy which is probably why it is so dirty and neglected and most likely the reason why they are closing next month for good . This man’s name is Ivo Prochazka and apparently is the manager of the Hammerthmith virgin active branch . A real disgrace to the brand not only rude, off putting uncalled for but also putting the guests in danger of injury.
Negative experience: Been a member of virgin active for about 20 years. My home club is Wandsworth smugglers which is decent but still a bit dirty in the shower room. However I have been to many of the virgins in London. This one in Hammersmith is by far the dirtiest. The toilet cubicle had grease marks/dirt running down the side of the doors. The floors are super dirty too. The gym needs a general update. Yuk

Negative experience: terrible gym equipment and selection. towel shortage. Only redeeming quality was the acceptable pool. Virgin active had good, high quality gyms - but this is not one of them.

Negative experience: The Hammersmith gym itself is pretty outdated, changing rooms are usually dirty and full of mould. All gym equipments are very old and most of treadmills never work. Not value for money. The gym needs a full refurbishment, modernisation and new equipments. The Hammersmith gym is worse than the cheapest competitors. I raised these issues several times, but they don't take any actions. I just cancelled my membership at Virgin Hammersmith and joined Jetts Hammersmith- the best gym in the Hammersmith area (great vibe, modern and all equipments are new)

At present, the treadmills are all in full working order as they have just recently been serviced and the changing room hygiene is at the levels we require. Positive experience: The staff who work there are very kind however the actual weightlifting area needs some funiding put into it due to only having one squat rack, one flat bench press compared with Clapham and Wandsworth who have a minimum of two. I would advise not going during peak hours but great when it’s not busy.

Negative experience: The only reason I pay for Virgin Active is the pool but it has been closed for most of the days in September. I understand that it might be hard to find someone to replace but it’s been a month and it is enough time to hire someone… or at least they should give us proper timeline or hiring plan so that ppl can freeze their membership or not.

These courses are to bring in new Lifeguards, who if they pass their end-of-training test, we can employ and use across our pools · Several managers at Hammersmith, are Lifeguard trained and in addition to their current hours, are supporting to cover poolside and help keep the pool open (either before, during or after their shifts) · We have contacted other clubs, to see if their Lifeguards can support Hammersmith, to help prevent pool closures · We have reached out to all Lifeguards who work less than full time, to see if they can pick up any additional hours · We are working through an agreement with an Agency to call upon Lifeguards. However, they still need to pass our training (to ensure they are safe) and be able to provide a DBS check – this means even an Agency lifeguard can take 6 weeks before they can work on our poolsides so the results are not quite as immediate as we would have hoped Thanks again, we really appreciate your patience.

Negative experience: Dark and box like gym and terrible customer service! Got confirmed a free month due to overchargement, just to be cut off and harrast for payment after. They backpaddled and said they will pass me to collectors if i wont pay. Also there were reported locker break ins and staff refused to share CCTV.

This is due to a staff shortage with our supplier. Occasionally, we have to close the main pool if the lifeguard is on duty and there's no back-up due to staff sickness.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member for many years now. The pool, steam and sauna are great. The gym is well-equipped and staff are friendly. Special shout-out to Demi and Angel who have gone out of their way to be super-helpful and kind. Personal trainer Ross Hanbury is also brilliant - highly recommended!

Negative experience: The worst virgin Active I've been.. dissapointed.I came only because our jacuzzi in Kensington High street is not working. I have a guest aswell and we are badly needed a relaxation . The girl in the desk at 1st is nice ,and Im really pleased UNtil out of spill conversation I mentioned the towel is quite small having told that I came from Kensington branch. She told me I can go back there if I'm not happy??? Seriously?? I love virgin active doesn't matter how small it is. Its just spill of word and im in my usual tone.and I am super embarrassed infront of my guest. If you have cctv you could play with sound and check I am telling the truth. I dont usually rate person poor ratings but this is not acceptable not only as member but as a person. I'm really EMBARRASSED in front of my friend. We all have day that is not great I would accept and she have a job to keep to earn. I just cannot accept this rudeness not only as a member but as a person.

We appreciate club phone lines might get a bit busier than usual, therefore we have our Central Support Team available on 020 7717 9000. The phone lines are open from 8:30 am to 6pm during weekdays and from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, from 10am to 2pm on Sundays.
Negative experience: After eight years of membership excess billing is finally driving me out. Sad to go, but it’s gotten completely unreasonable. Watch your wallet.
Negative experience: The weight room is mediocre and dirty. Many dumbell weights have been missing for over 2 years. Have complained on the app many times and no answer. The benches are old and some gym equipment is too. Awful gym. I hear the gym instructors don't get paid some months. Terrible!!! Only saving grace is the swimming pool and the steam & sauna. Just cancelled my membership Shame

Positive experience: Overall a good gym with all the usual machines, weights, pool and spa area. I particularly like the steam room, with its led-lit celining and relaxing atmosphere. In a slightly older building so a fair share of stairs, corners to turn and different areas within the changing rooms which can be a little confusing till you get used to it. One of the better gyms serving the Hammersmith area, though, not in my top ranking of Virgin Active gyms as it feels less modern than some of the others.

Positive experience: I had not realised just how much I missed being able to swim and really focus on exercise. I love Walking and Cycling and have done masses of both since 23rd March 2020. When I am doing either I am practising Mindfulness, so mood boosting anyway. However today, to do my best version of Swimming up/down lengths if a Pool was heaven. I know I will feel my muscles later, as I felt them whilst swimming, but so I should. I could have a Shower; I only have a Bath at home. I could use Hair Straighteners; I do not own any at home. You can't hear smiles when you swim, but I was smiling internally & through every pore. Frederico the Lifeguard was charming; I apologised that I'm not that fast, but he was complimentary about my "Style" or lack of. Anne Marie in the Dressing Rooms asked me how I found the Water Pressure & Temperature? So professional. The Receptionist and 2 PT's at Reception when I arrived were so welcoming and polite. When I left there were 3 at Reception, all very busy. I said Thank You, I meant it. Maybe you can see a Smile through a Mask, because I saw the Receptionist positively glow as I thanked him. You had no Comment Book for me to say how happy today has made me. I did not realise how a looong Winter coupled with Lockdown #3, can really numb you down. Thank you VA Hammersmith Road. You have helped so much today.

Positive experience: Edit: Back to normal opening hours and weekends which is excellent. Main issue is the gym floor now, many machines not been looked after well, some still need adjusting, servicing. Still room for improvements, use to be better 2years ago, lets hope they can improve after the covid.

Negative experience: Machines full of dust, needs more cleaning and they tie you up with joining fee and cancellation in advance. The staff are nice, the PT sessions are not worth it and the lessons are very repetitive. My favourite part is the pool which is quite small but is alright. Overall is not worth the money.

Positive experience: Due to Covid-19 the opening hours are severely reduced, it's closed on the weekends, and Monday-Friday close at 8pm :(
Positive experience: The weight section leaves a bit to be desired. There is only one squat rack, no power rack and the plates aren't of great quality - but on the other hand there is plenty of space to deadlift, OHP, do rows etc. I still like the gym though because it's generally not too busy (at non-peak times) and in all my interactions with the staff they have been brilliant. Can't comment on the classes as I've never done one but the changing rooms, pool, sauna and jacuzzi etc. are all very good in my opinion.
Positive experience: Really great facilities, very clean & staff are super attentive. The steam room and Suana can get busier in the evenings. The womens changing room is kept very clean, with virgin staff around maintaining the standards. The changing room is equipped with ghd hairdryer, ghd straighteners & lotions, ear buds & cleanser. The clientel, however can be uptight, finding things to complain about from other people or seeming to have an issue with loads of things. Other than this, it's a great place to get in shape and relax your mind and body.

Negative experience: The gym itself is ok, the staff are nice, it’s a bit dirty and the classes are generally good. Problem with the management is that they don’t really communicate when you want to cancel, and continue to try and send you to debt collectors without any explanation. I would probably avoid joining based on this
Negative experience: I was told to go to this gym as the Ladbroke Grove one's steam room was broken yet again. One word, Grim. I enjoyed talking to there customer service team for an excruciating half an hour, to be fair they refunded my for the week the steam room was broken but I told them this was not the solution I was looking for. Over all a very poor experience.
Negative experience: The dust in the gym is unbearable especially on the equipments. The ladies toilets always dirty. The gym is in serious need for overall renovation.
Negative experience: The gym is so filthy most of the times dust everywhere on the machines on the mats on the floor full of dust. The worst part the mangers walk around the gym and do not bother to notice the filth on the machines. The AC was not working most of the summer!!!! Very badly managed gym. Equipments are Not do great compared to other virgin gyms. The ladies toilets are always dirty and smelly. The tap waters always leaking water. Tissue boxes are empty most of the time. I am like the above gentleman i have a great PT that’s what’s keeping me in that dirty gym otherwise it’s waste of money joining with them !!!

Positive experience: Good club with excellent facilities. Continual changes in management and staff means little continuity in ways things are done and little responsibility for long standing maintenance issues. With more improvements in management I would recommend joining. If slack management doesn't bother you then this club may be for you. Cleanliness has recently become an issue (December 2019). The changing room floor is often covered in fluff and dust and don't have a long coat as it will come out of the locker covered in dust or dirt. The steam room often smells of stale water and the sauna also needs a good deep clean. The water areas, the pool and jacuzzi appear to be fine, but the dry areas need attention. When issues raised with management they can be dismissive and defensive. Waiting for yet another general manager to complain to!
Positive experience: Pretty run down gym with just about ok equipment. The changing rooms are tired and often dirty. I train here because I get a discount through work. If I didn't there is no way I would go here.
Negative experience: Useless staff manager is worst. The Spa is actually cold. It's been 2 months and still not fixed. Had pt lessons staff cant find it. Listen to the bad reviews and save your money
Negative experience: Location is good. Pool is ok although frequent issues with sauna and steam room. To top it all off i called to cancel my membership and then find out 3 months later found out they didn’t cancel and i had been charged £200. They just hid behind a contract clause and never gave my money back. This is how they thank a customer for 3 years!
Positive experience: As far as Virgin gyms go, this one languishes considerably. They have a pool which is a nice touch for a gym so central bit very frustratingly it is a 20 meter pool which... Just falls short of expectations one would generally have. Club is old and could use a face lift quite badly. Staff can be in a foul mood most times so don't bother asking for help.

Negative experience: Machines are not cleaned enough during peak use times and are generally grimy, not seeing a deep clean for a very long time (this is both bikes and elliptical machines). Same for some of the doors and walls throughout main gym. Rest of the gym and changing rooms are in average condition.

Sometimes busy machines probably you need to wait long time to do an exercise . The disadvantage of joining that gym: - very small - they not upgrade their machines (very old) - crazy busy especially in lunch hour - a few staff to help - most classes fully booked - sometimes very dirty especially lockers room area - sometimes young people shouting - bathroom not big enough -over price -no free parking - very bad communication with staff especially if you want to leave them The Advantage are: -swimming pool, spa, Sonam and steam room available -very nice big swimming pool - towels available for free - personal trainer available - most fantastic place to work and train - you can access to other virgin active
Negative experience: Feels run down, dirty shower and pool area, steam room not hot enough and smells bad. Shampoo dispensers are hit and miss , the chairs in the pool area are FILTHY, I’ll bet they never get cleaned. For the amount they charge there is no excuse not to get the basics right.
Positive experience: Fully equipped but not nicely maintained. Summer especially, very stuffy there. Shower always does not replenish soap and shampoo. And also, please install water fountain upstairs, we need that desperately.
Negative experience: Needs a significant refurb. Many amenities are here, but the building is unloved, and the pictures on the walls of all the other swanky franchises around the world just make this one look really past it. The swimming pool area in particular looks like a community pool from the 70s. The showers need a lot of work, and waste a huge amount of water at present (not environmentally-friendly at all) but the company is so slow to respond to constructive suggestions of even the basic need for change, it is all rather depressing. Nothing has changed in my two years there except the replacement of less than a third of awful soap dispensers in the showers.

Positive experience: Great gym! Only complaint is that the soap dispensers in the men's always seem to be empty.
Positive experience: Great Club. Nice facilities, really good classes specially Body attack and Hydro in my opinion. I am new to the club and I am really enjoying so far. The only downside might be the high cost on guests passes.

Positive experience: Great gym. Some awesome classes like Sara on Tuesday evening for pilates or Sylvia on Friday evening for body conditioning or Nicole on Thursday evening for Nova. The gym is clean and located close to the tube.

Negative experience: I am changing my review, this club is becoming very filthy, the loo and changing room always full of dirty towels, out of date machine and staff that don't seem to care
Negative experience: Expected more, but not worth the money and aggressive pushy sales completely put me off.
Positive experience: It's not worth the price, otherwise decent facilities. Pool is not bad.
Fantastic experience: Great gym - clean, friendly staff and not too crowded.
Positive experience: A bit of perspective needed on some of the negative reviews - the gym is OK, but nowhere near as nice as the Chiswick VA (the normal one, not the classic) and Moorgate VA which are clearly far superior, but the same price. Whereas the Acton VA has simply disgusting changing facilities. Best value to be found in alternative VAs as mentioned above. To the manager, visit the gyms above and I hope you will agree this is a fair and honest assesment.
Positive experience: They need a big clean! It looks a bit shoddy for the price you pay but the staff is super friendly and it isnt very busy
Negative experience: Very expensive for what it has to offer. Small gym with limited weights and equipment area. On top of that the equipment they do have is old. I've been to budget gyms with more modern and better equipment. I think they can only get away with charging this price because there isn't much competition in Hammersmith?

Fantastic experience: The staff are friendly and extremely helpful which creates a great atmosphere. The people manning the front desk, the personal trainers, the locker room attendants, etc., are so cheerful and courteous that using the facility is always an uplifting experience.

Negative experience: Hammersmith gym very poor attitude of staff, very dirty, it feels like a 24 hour gym not a corporate gym. Standards have drop over the last 9 months it is a disgrace now.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy this club very much! Have recently moved to another area, but still keep attending this one as didn't manage to find an equal replacement. I do mainly group classes (bodypump, bodystep, yoga) and would say that instructors are highly professional and charismatic, which is right what I need for a good workout. Also very happy with the spa complex, especially pleased with the jacuzzi tub. Only after trying to switch to another club started to notice and value such things as presence of body lotion, tissues, hair straightener and always sufficent place in locker room. Also from time to time they have promotions and offer you to bring your friends free of charge, used that several times.
