Everlast Gyms - Halifax: Opinions
Fantastic experience: There seems to have been a change of staff over the last few weeks and it’s definitely a positive change I have been going on and off for years and they are finally employing staff we care . They clean the place and obviously care about their jobs and the gym. Well done Michael and Lowen An asset to the company
Fantastic experience: Went with my partner who's a member and had a swim. Lovely pool hot showers.
Fantastic experience: Good gym and nice pool! Michael on reception is extremely helpful- sorted out the years up front memberships for me and my mum. Couldn’t have helped more! Efficient and would recommend you see him if you want the job done!
Positive experience: Great work out would recommend
Negative experience: I went online to sign up as a member filled all the online forms out then when I got to the bit asking for card details it said sorry we don't accept your card so I decided just just not bother as I am with a well known bank so shouldn't have been any issue ....I found another gym and singed up there instead....fast forward 2 months I'm now getting calls from everlast saying I owe them 2 months gym fees ....like what are they on down there it takes to seconds to look on the system see that the forms were never finalised and the customer has never walked into the gym to figure it out ...better not effect my credit score
Positive experience: Good gym but typical chain gym clientele, nobody reracks their weights. Plates are left all over the floor. I seen a guy the other day slamming his 7.5kg dumbbells onto the floor when he finished his set. There's just no need. I only go here for the pool, I lift weights at another gym where the members are more respectful!
Negative experience: Gym area not very big gets over crowded easily swimming pool looks run down broken tiles . Over priced gym there is much better in halifax
Negative experience: This gym is a scam let me tell you how they give is 15 pounds offer than we get stuck and when we want to cancel the membership they tell me to give 1 mouth notice before giving a mouth notice they cut my other mouths money for no reason and if the 1 year contract u can’t really cancel and they don’t tell you even if you go abroad for holidays they still cut your money and and 11 mouth say give us notice and they still cut the money for 12 mouths this is a trap I would not recommend any one go to this gym and final think half of the machines are out of order better going somewhere else
Negative experience: Always has a something broken, £30-40 membership, so expensive but lacks equipment and the equipment they do have is out of order too much. not worth the money
Negative experience: Staff and management have poor customer service and horrible attitudes. Not welcoming or receptive to feedback. Machines are outdated. Would not recommend
Negative experience: Lack of signage, there is an in body scan machine in the gym and no signage to say this is to be used by staff or a charge, staff member came who I believe is manager and demanded we pay £4 each for using this. Only when we pointed out it had been left logged in he said we don’t have to pay but said signs are at till away from the machine so no clear way of knowing this scan machine is charged for or for personal trainer use only. Be careful not to use this as there is a charge.
Fantastic experience: It's fabulous
Negative experience: Poor Management،poor Customer servise،poor Hygine.
Negative experience: Hygiene issues: I left this gym because they provide no paper towels or spray to wipe down the equipment in the main gym. I've complained about this previously and told it was the decision of the owner Mile Ashley. I tried various new gyms such as Valley view and Pure gym before joining a new gym... All these gyms offer paper towels and sprays to wipe down their bikes. Saving pennies on paper towels is daft given we know how vulnerable populations are affected by everyday infections.. Both of my parents are vulnerable and elderly I ended up catching several chest infections last year (possibly from the gym) and I had to limit my time with my mum who recently passed away. Secondly I have hyrdosis and sweat excessively so wiping it down with my towels didn't work and only transferred sweat from machine to another. I actually want the paper towels so I keep it clean for other users Overall on balance the classes are decent but the gym equipment is a bit tired and run down. I think with some tweaks it could be a three star. They do have a pool and decent classe even if the gym equipment and shows are run down. Overall it deserves a 2 star due to the hygiene issues.. The other local gyms I tried ALL provide paper towels to wipe down the equipment. What's the point of completing a health qualification only to ignore those practices? P.s. this isn't a pop at those who clean the gym who are working hard with the time and resource they have. They could just been doing it smarter by allowing gym users to help keep it clean. It's as if we've forgot to the lessons of the COVID lockdowns. Here we learned that encouraging good hygiene practices stop silent killers such as flu and meningitis. We shouldn't compromise by trying to save a few quid on paper towels when it risks lives...
Negative experience: Wouldn’t recommend. The staff allow other members to bully you, follow you and verbally abuse you.
Positive experience: Old and dated machines, the pool has broken tiles but they’re charging the same price as somewhere like “jd gym” which is new, had better facilities and equipment.
Negative experience: I take my baby here for swimming lessons but seriously considering requesting to move to a different pool. It seems like every other week at the minute it's freezing - my baby comes out shivering like mad by the end. The showers here are horrific so getting in at the end to try and warm up is an absolute mission. You press it, it stays on for about 6 seconds (no im not exaggerating. I've timed it.) Some stay on for even less!!!! Who in the world can shower themself and a baby in 6 seconds?! They're also old, filthy, pipes are really loud. Some don't have doors on. The changing rooms have air con plus fans on blast. I fully get if you're coming in from the gym you're warm so a bit of air con is maybe needed, but also consider that you have a pool so people coming into the changing room are cold and wet. We don't want blasting with cold air. Considering you are a venue that runs baby swimming lessons you have a heck of a lot to improve on.
Fantastic experience: Didn't go went to sports direct above it but looked good through the door as I went past eating a McDonald's
Fantastic experience: Great gym good vibe in there. Very clean, pool and steam room are spot on. Amazing staff too, Luke, Jake,Molly and Aimee helped me out so much, 5 star for me
Negative experience: I was thinking about joining this gym again used to come years ago and it was lovely, especially the spa area with Sauna. Thanks for all these honest reviews, I'm now going to look elsewhere and stay clear.
Negative experience: After paying for 2 months rolling I Signed up for a year and after the 1st week I went and there were no showers to use that's great after a workout and not the sauna has bee out of action for over 2 weeks. This is ridiculous and the main reason I chose this gym.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Negative experience: Save yourself before signing up to this gym. Service is horrible and they only care about robbing your money, they will place promotional offers not making it clear it will then put you into a 12 month rolling contract at a ridiculous price the only way you can get out of this ‘contract’ is to provide your personal details such as a proof of address that you have moved/ p60 or a doctors note which you shouldn’t need to provide to a gym. The equipment is old so do yourself a favour and move to PureGym 2 minutes down the road which has great service, new equipment and aren’t desperate to steal your money and can cancel your membership without having to explain your personal circumstances. I’m guessing Everlast will reply to this review trying to save themselves however whatever excuse is written isn’t valid.
Fantastic experience: Great value for money xx
Fantastic experience: Great facilities including steam room and swimming. Great team of staff.
Negative experience: I went for a swim and the water was very cold just not good enough.
Fantastic experience: Great for overall fitness, steam room and pool
Fantastic experience: Wonderful venue for lunch, the menu doesn’t disappoint. They’re famous for their Fish Pie
Negative experience: Rude, disinterested staff No rules in pool so just a massive free for all Some unkind members in the pool, no staff present to see behaviour. Filthy changing rooms and showers Dated equipment.
Positive experience: Good facility’s but really messy gym.
Fantastic experience: Loving it great choice of machines and facilities
Negative experience: Worst gym ever.
Positive experience: A wonderful gym to workout.
Positive experience: I thank the staff on the way out from a decent session and the literal response from the reception staff was 'who does that?' It was a one-time thing but it's stuck with me ever since. There's also a really awkward space where a Jacuzzi should be. It's an OK gym really, shame about that receptionist - I was gobsmacked. The rest of the staff seem lovely.
Fantastic experience: Clean, well equipped and maintained
Positive experience: Decent gym but there's often issues like showers not working, toilet out of order, swimming facilities including sauna out of order. Hard to get full moneys worth. Being tied down to a contract isn't great either but staff are always keeping busy looking after the gym
Fantastic experience: Luke was a real pleasure at the front and helped loads
Fantastic experience: Really enjoying training at this gym! I’m so glad I swapped. The team are great
Fantastic experience: Great gym & friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Very good gym, best in area staff very helpful an knowledgeable
Fantastic experience: Decent gym with really good equipment. Good atmosphere & the staff are very friendly & helpful. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym extremely clean all the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful always a happy atmosphere and a welcome face behind the counter ready to help with any issues been a happy member for 4+ years and will be remaining ! Big up Halifax Everlast
Fantastic experience: Very pleased with my recent membership. Friendly and helping staff. Good facilities.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time at Halifax Everlast gym. Staff were helpful and gym was immaculate. With a stylish and sleek design. Well worth joining up.
Fantastic experience: Good gym, helpful staff members!
Negative experience: Worst gym you could join, free weight section is too small, steam room is out of order on a regular basis, swimming pool is ok but small, jacuzzi been removed and replaced with a couple of sun loungers which is totally bizarre. I was tied into a 12 month membership without knowing. If you are wanting to cancel your membership due to an injury, illness etc you will need some sort of proof from the hospital or doctor, even when you do provide everlast with proof they will still delay your cancellation. Worst gym in halifax.
Fantastic experience: It is really good gym and swim steam rooom and good staff to help u there
Positive experience: Wouldn't say the best gym in halifax but its not too bad either.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous staff. Always there to help and correct any technical errors . Classes included in membership are diverse and yet still feel personal. The facilities are great and still kept to a reasonable standard even during busy times
Positive experience: The gym has a steam room and a swimming pool, which are functional but about a third of the showers are usually out of order and the ones that work you have no control over the temperature or where the shower head is pointing. The locks on the majority of the shower doors are broken so everyone just hangs their towel over the door to show which cubicles are occupied. The steam room has had a good run recently in terms of weeks without being out of order but while it always seems to be steamy, it isn't hot. The place used to have jacuzzi too but when the area was closed for 'improvements', it reopened minus the jacuzzi. There are about 5 benches in the dumbbell areas which are always busy when i go first thing in a morning. While in the past i have seen quite a few broken resistance machines, they seem to be keeping up to things a little better recently. The staff are friendly enough but don't expect to see them on the gym floor or fix any facilities problems quickly. I get the impression that most problems are beyond their control.
Positive experience: Lots of machines out of order or not working. Showers need major refurb
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Staff helpful, approachable great gym!
Positive experience: Nice swiming pool but shower and pool mostly dirty
Positive experience: Equipment regularly broken and not repaired, poor facilities which keep reducing with no impact on member price
Positive experience: Its a good gym but an be very busy at certain times. Waiting for machines is certain during these times. Pool is always busy and hard to swim in. There are soin classes on and other classes but as I don't use any of them I cannot comment. Not as good as other gym's I've used but still a good gym.
Fantastic experience: Staff really good and always approachable for advice Especially Elliot does make time for you. It's a good gym to get fit
Negative experience: Terrible customer service. Visiting from overseas. Waited 5 mins before the manager even looked up at me and acknowledged I was waiting. Paid the day rate and then asked to buy a padlock. As a service industry this business/Josh needs more training in simple customer service skills. The manager Josh had no desire to help solve a problem so I ended up getting a refund and leaving. Won’t be returning!
Negative experience: Terrible gym Rammed, weights everywhere Not even close to enough equipment Trap you with there memberships, there's plenty more gyms in Halifax,do not sign a contract to this one
Negative experience: The pool is regularly closed and when it is open it's far too busy to be able to swim comfortably. The jacuzzi was often closed too and now they've removed it and replaced it with 2 deck chairs. Many of the lockers are broken and the staff don't listen to complaints.
Negative experience: Poor. Can't get out of contracts despite the way it's worded on website. Aircon broke months ago and still waiting to be fixed, in meantime gym is unbearable and you can barely face the changing rooms in the heat. Got rid of the hot tub. Also can't take friends anymore but still same price. Huge crack in pool ceiling too.
Negative experience: Addition: can’t get changed without children watching you as they not have taken over the changing rooms due to swimming. Showers are broken and dirty. I go here for the classes, jacuzzi and swimming. Classes have never returned to pre pandemic levels and seem very limited, times terrible for someone working a 9-5 job. Jacuzzi been filled in recently and replaced with 2 sun loungers!!!! Why Swimming pool seems to be taken over at weekend by children! So don’t think I will be going here much longer!
Positive experience: Decent range of equipment, no where near as busy as pure gym (which is a great thing). Great monthly price. Good pool and steam room- unfortunately they have just filled in their jacuzzi (huge shame as always was popular). Goodness knows why but they have turned off their air conditioning which makes it extremely uncomfortable to work out - please turn them back on. The two small portable AC units are useless for a gym this size.
Negative experience: My first and probably last month as a member. Facilities are good for the price, but the pool is absolute carnage in the evenings. Large groups of men are being allowed to gather in the pool and engage in dangerous and anti-social behaviour. Staff regularly visit the poolside, but seem to accept this and say nothing. It's almost impossible to swim properly and certainly not a suitable environment for children or families.
Positive experience: Like a well known brand of woodstain it does exactly what it says on the tin. There are free weights (the prison yard) which are always popular. There are treadmills, recumbent bikes, rowers, elliptical machines and cross trainers. All the other usual machines are there too. There's a studio (much quieter) and a spin room. The pool is a decent size. A steam room and sun loungers (a tad pointless unless you want to perv on the swimmers. This replaced the jacuzzi). Now the down side. The equipment is dated, the showers are noisy and extremely tired. The jacuzzi has been replaced with the "perv seats" (the members appropriately named area) and even though all the machines are supplied by technogym you cannot use the QR code to log your workout. Have use a personal trainer at the gym, George Luty, for the last 4 months. Very patient and very friendly. Knowledgeable and understanding too.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic swimming and 1-2-1 SEN lessons
Positive experience: Busy and often cluttered gym space. Has mostly what you need for a good workout. Spa closed more often than open these days. Could be much better if it was maintained nicely and wasn't so crowded.
Positive experience: The gym is very averag, it needs more space for deadlifts also platform needs changing, one squat rack between maybe 30 people at a time. Pool and steam are great but only when open which is like 2 times a week.
Fantastic experience: Top gym
Negative experience: This place is shambolic , the staff are rude not helpful and are clearly just there to sit around and do nothing , jacuzzi shut and steam room stinks , all staff need replacing
Fantastic experience: Love my classes
Positive experience: Decent gym. Fairly busy when I go at 6am. Good facilities
Positive experience: Looking a bit grubby, Mike Ashley needs to spend some of his vast fortune on it.
Negative experience: Everlast are worse than DW. Lots of promises but the place is falling to bits. Ironically everything was working on open weekend but then closed again. They promised some form of cash back as the spa and steam room haven’t been in action since October. Sometimes they get bodged repairs and open them for a couple of days, then close again. Do not join here, lots of promises but as there is only the gym open, places like Puregym are considerably cheaper. I’m cancelling my membership tomorrow.
Positive experience: Steam room and jacuzzi often out-of order and steam room needs total refurb. Otherwise gym equipment and cleanliness in great. Update - recent refurb useless, jacuzzi removed and just covered with sitting area. Why??? 1 star review for the refurb.
Negative experience: Everything is broken all the time. Joined for swimming pool, spa and steamroom, one of the 3 have been broken throughout last 3.5 months, 1 month entire pool area closed including showers, at the moment it's spa and steam room. Fixing anything takes month or two. When poolside is finally open teenage lads just run riot making it unbearable to try and actually swim or chill out. Cancelled my membership but have to pay for 3 months yet. Its a joke how badly this place is ran. It's a shame as its only place with pool in Halifax right now. You pay a lot to have this extra feature but its non existent and complaints are ignored totally.
Negative experience: Absolutley terrible
Negative experience: Since Everlast took over, I cannot recommend this place to anyone. If you see reviews of closed poolside/steam room/ hot tub that is still closed today. Showers are not working very often and if they are cold water only, or it working fine but something else is not etc.. there has been few mornings when arriving to gym, I had to turn around and go home, or call every morning to ask what is working or available today, few months later this getting exhausting waste of my money, min 3 months notice required, should have left last year as I doubt there will be any changes on the path and customer care gym has now
Negative experience: Would give zero stars if I could. Please just don’t use. I can’t say strongly enough not to use these facilities. Quality of site is awful, customer service is horrific and you’ll end up paying a fortune if you want to cancel. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Does get busy around 5pm but staff are always friendly and equipment is well kept
Negative experience: This gym has gone downhill since Everlast took over. Poolside has been having issues for months now. Jacuzzi remained closed for months. The steam room and pool were closed for the most of December. An ideal time to maybe give the tiles in the steam room a clean (covered in black marks) however that would be asking too much. Bare minimum done to sort issues if they are even sorted. Poolside is again currently closed due to a broken boiler which is going be replaced in an undisclosed timeframe. Total and utter shambles.
Positive experience: One of the few gyms that tie you in to a 3-month contract. Facilities are good & the mngt team try their best, but you do get the impression that the Head Office have a policy of spending as little money as possible on maintenance & repairs. This attitude, especially during the pandemic, could turn off a number of loyal customers.
Negative experience: Really struggling to stay positive about this Gym, currently no pool, no spa and no hot water and when I went BOTH male toilet cubicles were out of order. I joined for the pool but I've been able to use it a handful of times. I think that's why they tie you in contract wise, it used to be a premium gym but sadly its fall apart.
Negative experience: Pool closed again jacuzzi still broken it's 2/3 weeks now no offer of reduced payment getting worse
Negative experience: This place is as bad as it can be. Photos from yesterday: no hot water, toilets out of order (!!!), swimming pool closed, jacuzzi closed, steam room closed. What the hell am I paying 35 quid a month for?
Negative experience: Appalling service. Newly joined gym and cold showers on two occasions. On my last visit the showers are now closed! What am I paying for? Tried calling to complain and no luck as customer service is appalling. Stay far away from this trash.
Fantastic experience: Much better than when it was DW. The place is much cleaner, better lay out and better equipment. Glad I returned to give the place another chance
Fantastic experience: Everything is broken!
Negative experience: Unhappy with standards I only joined this gym (Halifax) a couple of months ago and am so glad it’s on the option where you don’t give much notice because I think I will be leaving soon. I heard many members saying it had gone down hill since the previous owners had it but until two weeks ago was fairly satisfied. The spa has been out of action for nearly 2 weeks with no known date given for when it will be fixed and no refund offered. Also there is a faulty light in the pool area that flashes on and off. Again it must have been that way 2 weeks now and I’m sure it could be seizure inducing for someone. I have complained to desk staff about both these issues and all I get is “it’s up to head office, we can’t do anything about it.” Well Head Office, read this and do something before I tweet my 10k followers on Twitter.
Negative experience: Totally disgusting with misrepresentation provided from everlast which has now caused me to be £170 would not recommend this gym....so please anyone thinking of joining read terms & conditions ♀️
Fantastic experience: Good helpfull wecome from staff, goog facilities
Fantastic experience: The staff are very welcoming, professional and personable. Especially Rob and Steph who couldn't help enough.
Positive experience: Great little gym could do with a few more group classes in an evening and a couple more racks though
Fantastic experience: Was my first day today and it was great lovely pool, friendly staff, had a show day the day before it was clean ,warm pool, showers working and glad I joined, loved it and can't wait to try the gym it didn't look 2 busy. I was very impressed
Positive experience: The gyms gone down hill from when it was DW, fewer machines and dont repair machines on time, overall gym is ok with steamroom, jacuzzi and swimming pool
Positive experience: The facilities are good especially the gym, but the management is poor. The gym is managed really well and maintained to a good, clean standard but the pool area is a different story. The jacuzzi burns your eyes and makes you cough your lungs up and I’ve never once seen a staff member check it. The pool is oddly murky and again I’ve never seen a staff member check the ph levels or anything along them lines throughout the day. The steam room is covered in weird stains. But the staff are nice and friendly just a bit of a downgrade in management since the change from DW.
Fantastic experience: A1 gym brilliant
Negative experience: Absolute Rip off. The price label clearly states £20, ( See attached picture), however they have charged £22.99. As I'd bought other items on the receipt I didn't notice until I got home. I also noticed that the one and only changing room was not Covid19 safe as it was filty full of cobwebs, hair, dust, and fluff everywhere in my opinion it hadnot been cleaned all week, I will be returning for my refund of £2.99 however I wonder how many other people get ripped off every day !!!!! BEWARE
Fantastic experience: Nice swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Very nice
