Woughton Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Beware they always try to take extra 1 month payment if we want to cancel the membership. If we cancel the membership even on 2nd or 3rd of the month, they will still take the fee for the next month. So the 1 month notice is not really 1 month. Initially I tried to freeze my membership for 2 months, as I was not able to use the facility. But they didn't process it, saying they can only hold the fee for medical reasons with supporting documentations. All they care is your fee and they are good in getting that in one way or other.
Fantastic experience: Relaxing and purposeful
Fantastic experience: Ample parking and quiet cafe. I saw Dr Feelgood and Michael Schenker play here, not on the same night !
Fantastic experience: Love the staff at this gym.. always feel welcome and such great support to get fit ..they go above and beyond!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, bigger than it looks. Quiet, aircon, good music and a range of equipment
Positive experience: I was enjoying aquafit classes but suddenly the class has become too big. You have to be at correct depth for personal competence. Last two sessions were irritating due to insufficient space. It didn’t help that one person seemed incapable of staying own space.
Positive experience: My son does swimming lessons here, which he really enjoys. Lessons are one day a week & they also run through half terms, which is great. The kids can attend however many sessions it takes them to learn. The only downfall is that the group sizes are a bit too big, in my opinion. They run too many stage groups at one time. Sometimes, the pool gets split into 4 sections, and there can be up to 8 kids in a quartersection of the pool, which stifles their ability to really progress. I really think this needs rectifying at some point as the teacher is watching so many children its slowing down the short session. The lessons are only 25-minute sessions, which I think should be longer. However, the swimming coaches seem to be good & my son finds the lessons fun, which is great. The gym itself is quite small (I don't attend the gym, but I feel I can comment), but there's a lot of classes. They run all times and days too to suit a lot of people. The place is also generally very clean (minus when the kids have been in the changing rooms making a mess of it), but at all other times, the cleanliness is really good.
Positive experience: Excellent ambience in areas of swimming, aerobic classes & gym. Will put feedback on other classes as & when attending. Staff are brilliant and very helpful & knowledgeable. Only slight criticism is there are some gym members who seem to take two sets of dumbbells for weights training, hogging and that’s selfish & I think the staff should proactively discourage this practice. I am glad that the pool water is fairly warm and that’s a big plus, unlike other swimming pool at leisure centres.
Fantastic experience: Great centre and brilliant staff.
Positive experience: The facilities are great, although the amount of classes has gone down during acquisition by new owners. Now to mirror feedback from others, some of the reception staff need training. I also take my kids to swimming lessons( as well as using gym and my son using junior gym) & having complained to reception that some parents hoard kids’ shower area and that’s not in-line with safeguarding measures, he looked at me like I was stupid and said that there is nothing they can do. The chap proceeded to say that all parents are told this on induction( I never was) & that there is no way to emails. reminder to parents who might not be aware( a lie as we had comms form swimming club before). Some members of front desk team let the who facility down - this is easily fixed with some investment in training.
Negative experience: Staff have no understanding of hearing loss, and disabilities. Can never get booked in to classes. Toilets are an utter mess, dont flush, constant smell of sewage.
Negative experience: I went to take my baby swimming for the first time which should have been a lovely experience however on arrival we were met with an extremely rude male receptionist who found it appropriate to make comments under his breath about my mum using the wrong door ( an innocent mistake). He was extremely rude and just wasn’t a pleasant individual. A bit of friendly customer service and a friendly smile wouldn’t go a miss.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and a good variety of classes
Fantastic experience: Front of house is always very helpful, cheerful. All staff and facilities are great!
Negative experience: Desk Staff is so rough, they never respect customers.. Stink in bathrooms and changing clothes area.. They are not deserve any review options.. One of the worst.. __---
Fantastic experience: Just joined this gym and it's really nice and great quality machine's and plenty loose weights. Only issue is they don't have a water fountain in the main gym, although there's one outside the main gym but I think one should be inside Also so you don't have to keep going out for water. I'd definitely recommend this gym to others
Negative experience: Does not even deserve 1 star! My daughter has come out of a swimming class in tears after being threatened by a swim teacher. threatening a 10 year old to do as they are asked otherwise they will be kicked out of the lesson. My daughter has a phobia about water in her ears and her normal teacher would allow her to do things in stages to allow her to slowly get over her phobia. today had a replacement teacher and all progression is lost. My daughter does not want to go anymore and i am cancelling my membership. DONT BOTHER TAKING YOUR KIDS HERE FOR SWIM LESSONS!!! Woughton Leisure Center: If you would like this honest review deleted then get in touch with proof the member of staff has been sacked! THEY SHOULD NOT BE WORKING WITH KIDS!
Fantastic experience: We had Great! experience with Woughton Leisure Centre and especiall With Diane on reception She is the face of the business Helpful, cheerful and never complains when need to arrange two kids on different stages oppose to some of her colleagues Diana- to many years working for Leisure centre and climbing the ladder within it❤️
Negative experience: I didn't have a very good experience there, tonight was the last straw and I've canceled my membership. Staff at the front desk were often not very friendly. Classes often didn't start on time because there were constant issues with the audio systems. Had an instructor embarrass me in front of the entire class and accuse me of rolling my eyes at her when I was just tired and struggling, trying to get through the workout and it had nothing to do with her. Maybe ask someone if they're ok next time instead of assuming the worst. In my 30 years of going to the gym I never had any issues nor was ever treated so rudely until I came to this place.
Positive experience: Top notch gym but couldn’t see some crucial equipment. One of the best gyms i have still been to.
Positive experience: Facilities are top notch, no doubt. The staffs at the reception are so rude and unwelcoming. They need a serious training for the job :( very much disappointed with their behaviour. @management, train them now else you may lose a lot of good customers
Negative experience: Totally waste to talk with the receptionist.they should’ve have hired them, think wasting the money on them. No proper way of respond from the receptionist. Apart from that the gym equipment and the trainer are good
Fantastic experience: Great customer service. Nice clean pool. Thank you
Negative experience: Worst experience ever !! One of the female employees was very rude with us. She tell my little my brother to leave from the pool because he is not very good at swimming, but he was wearing Arm Bands Floats, and the manager allowed him to enter the first time, but we were surprised that she did not let him enter the second time ! Even though This policy wasn’t specify in the booking .
Fantastic experience: Nice warm swimming pool, good gyms friendly staff. Good prices
Negative experience: Great facility with poor customer service.
Fantastic experience: welcoming Staff , specially the Few Turkish ladies at Reception are very accommodating and well mannered
Positive experience: Great Les mills classes with brilliant instructors, loads of classes to choose from, if you are looking for Les mills, this is the gym for you.
Fantastic experience: Been a member since 1st May, and loving it. Wide variety of classes, both virtual and tutor led, great swimming classes, and particularly loving the the yoga, core and lbts classes, The spin studio is first class but best of all is the fab team at woughton, everyone is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble, The vibe of the place is perfect for me, no stuffiness or pretence like other clubs, highly recommend
Positive experience: Staff is good. Same charges for members and non-members for facilities not acceptable and hardly to get booking as they are booked by clubs. Badminton courts are not maintained with lights and all. Swimming pool is good.
Negative experience: Very poor management. The Swimm teachers are careless and look like they just are there to pass the day. My son did not improved nothing in 5 months of swimming and they always forgot to assess the students. I needed to remember them every time I feel my son is stuck in a level more than it should. Looking now to move. Because this is time and money thrown out of the window.
Positive experience: Siłownia, pływalnia, gry zespołowe.
Negative experience: never answers calls at reception.
Fantastic experience: The gym is fantastic, it’s as modern as you can get! Great environment
Positive experience: Very helpful staff overall, particularly Matilde. Recommend SmartStart for using the gym as a beginner like me. Minor quibbles - app payments for activities keep defaulting to credit cards only, despite me reporting this several times, plus really difficult to get a badminton court in the evenings as block booked or unavailable. Otherwise all good - glad we joined 1life!
Positive experience: Same issue as others with debt collection. Most gyms just let you cancel debit and naturally your membership fizzles out. Woughton did call me to explain their terms and conditions (i.e. SMALLPRINT) but how does this help me when I now need to ask DFC to drop additional charges and accept my cancelation. The lady sounded condescending and smug, too. Update* It is not 30 days notice if those 30 days fall within your next payment date. DFC made me pay Feb (late) and March as well as £15 or threatened to send the case to debt collectors. This gym is despicable at a time when people are struggling to make ends meet. We will never be back. Update 2: Raj from Woughton called me to help. He did not understand the additional month charge and contacted the DFC to make them refund. I appreciated his HELP AND explanation. DFC are the scumbags. Woughton just prefers not to chase members for membership etc so uses DFC. DFC then overcharges to make easy money from everyone.
Negative experience: Avoid.... staff are incompetent. Tried cancelling my membership and it turns out they have tried to collect one more payment, which they were unable to... instead of a phone call to communicate what had happened they have sent my details straight to a debt collector who have slammed £15 on the balance and will add more charges every 7 days.... Quite disgusted by this service - the facilities are rubbish, ended up paying and not using, deffinatly did not get anywhere near my value for money and now extra charges? Deffo Avoid this one!
Negative experience: Not good swimming trainers
Fantastic experience: Great got swimming, to find a spot for releveling, always need to call them and get it scheduled, aside from that, excellent centre.
Negative experience: I had a direct debit come out of my account so I didn't have sufficient funds to pay the monthly membership fee, instead of them attempting to collect again or notifying me that the payment has failed they just stuck on a £15 late payment fee and sent it to debt collectors immediately. LOL. So I had an email from debt collectors for £30. Mad. I cancelled the membership.
Fantastic experience: They let me smoke cali war heads in the bath and let me listen to Collie Buddz on the PA System JA JANOOOOO
Negative experience: If there is a zero score, I would have given them this. They are filled with very incompetent employees! You get told different things during signing up and it becomes your problem when you need to cancel. They don’t ever pick their calls either. My doctor asked me to stop going to the gym and I sent an email to cancel since September ( which was what I was told by the guy at the desk on the day I join) and I haven’t heard from anyone till date but rather, I have been getting email of late payment adding £15 each time. The guy at the DFC ( direct debit centre) mentioned it doesn’t matter what you e been told, it is about what it is in the terms and conditions. Very incompetent set of people! Do not go there, they are very disorganised and not capable of managing their organisation well. They make their customers scape goats of their incompetencies. Zero customer relations…..
Fantastic experience: Facilities were clean, pool was warm and quiet, staff friendly. Showers were even warm! I was a bit surprised by a unisex changing room (with stalls) but I had a lovely first swim and look forward to going back.
Fantastic experience: We attended Durga Puja celebrations here organised by MK Ananda Club. The leisure centre is set in a beautiful open location in Leadenhall. The facilities are clean and maintained well. The centre has ample parking spaces and from the number of people I saw around, I believe it's a popular place for swimming and other leisure activities.
Negative experience: The was vomit in the pool
Negative experience: There was vomit in the pool
Negative experience: Badminton or other indoor sports are never available. Swimming pool is covered in a layer of debris and filth at the bottom. Don’t monitor their website so that when you fill out cancellation they still charge you and then try and debt collect. Completely overpriced gym with not much to offer. Poor customer service and bad attitude staff. Stay away. Better off going to a pure gym or similar.
Positive experience: chill experience
Negative experience: My things got stolen from the swimming area. Wallet, phone everything. Not a safe place to go.
Fantastic experience: A low price for the facilities you receive. I recommend this place.
Fantastic experience: Great swimming facility and coaches. Very well managed premises and services
Fantastic experience: Great gym, since the renovation it’s been great, also swimming facilities and a lovely little italian cafe.
Fantastic experience: Woughton Leisure Centre. Good experience and plenty activities for all the family members!
Fantastic experience: The gym classes are great. Very clean and professional. Not to busy too if you go in the mornings. Staff are friendly too.
Fantastic experience: Went for a scalextric exhibition and it was great. The leisure centre staff were very welcoming
Fantastic experience: Great induction from trainer Mark. Nice gym, pool and loads of classes available. Recommended.
Negative experience: WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Joined Woughton leisure centre MK in Dec and cancelled it within 3 days as they did not were not providing the services (badminton court booking) they were offering. I cancelled the membership within 14 days notice period however they still deducted the payment via direct debit. I called them and asked for the refund in around 27th Dec and they confirmed that refund processed and you will receive the refund within 14 days. I called them again around 19th Jan and asked about the refunds. Receptionist mentioned that she will check with her manager and get back to me. I am still waiting for my refund and call back!!
Negative experience: My daughter had to miss her class due to isolation and they wouldn’t even replace her class. I can understand if we missed due to our commitments but this was not our fault. There is no provision if you have to miss because you are following government guidelines. Just a waste!!!!
Negative experience: Extremely so bad experience after you confirm and manage my time for my 3 old year boy with reception confirmation and my son ready to start and suddenly they said sorry itts suppose to be tomorrow, I don't recommend it at all such bad experience to my little one and wasting time and they blaming each other with bad excuse, soo unprofessional
Positive experience: I have to be honest. £25 a month for a top spec gym AND 1 hour of free badminton during the day EVERY DAY is the best deal going. If it works for you then it's incredible. This is not INCORRECT!!! BADMINTON IS NO LONGER FREE. Which makes the gym an average deal. What a shame.
Fantastic experience: Walking netball brilliant
Fantastic experience: Lovely place to enjoy a coffee with friends after the gym.
Negative experience: This has been the worst leisure centre I have signed up to so far. The whole membership is a lie. All inclusive use and you cannot even book a court for badminton. False sale for a 6 month contract. Swimming pool always busy and you have to go outside sociable times. Gym lacks a lot of equipment and it's a constant struggle to modify workouts. Had I known this I would have never signed up myself and 3 other friends. Think twice before you do. Soon as I'm out of contract I'm gone.
Negative experience: I wanted to book a swim online and there is no option for a senior citizen to book. I was surprised. I called them on the phone and there was no answer. Eventually I went there myself to try my luck BUT they still could not give me a senior citizens price. Can 1 life please let us know what is their position for serving senior citizens?
Fantastic experience: Always go its my local pool limited numbers but always good
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, new top-spec gym, classes, swimming, and all included in the membership!
Positive experience: It's ok
Fantastic experience: A great gym! Been going there for years!! Friendly staff , great service and a great variety of things to do there. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and nice gym
Negative experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Good facilities and good staff
Fantastic experience: Closed at the moment. Tier 4
Fantastic experience: Really nice badminton courts
Fantastic experience: Great balance with current COVID restrictions. Restrictions didn't impact on gym time and classes. I imagine during busier times it could be frustrating, with the class size reductions, if you cannot book a slot. They are really trying their best for us. Thank you and well done.
Positive experience: Seeing how a Gym runs things post Covid-reopening was interesting. The cleaning, as well as by the staff, was left primarily to the custom. This gave it a sense of community. wiping down your own weights or equipment has a real team feel. This also gave me, a new customer, a sense of comfort as I felt everything was fully sanitised before I tried to use it. It's a shame the place closes for deep clean during the day time between 11 and 5 as I'd definitely prefer to go during the day time. And also the pool has yet to be opened. But the weights were fully stacked and nothing felt missing due to covid. also there was plenty of taped off areas and markers to remind people where to go. The toilets are currently out of service meaning only one is available upstairs behind the reception. All in all had a fine time. I've been twice now and will continue to do so.
Negative experience: I WARN ANYONE THAT WANTS TO CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP WITH 1LIFE GYM. SOON AS YOU CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP IT GETS SENT TO DEBIT FINANCE COLLECTION AGENCY SO YOU END UP PAYING IN THE LONG RUN. AS SOON AS I CANCELLED I HAD NO ONE TO COMMUNICATE WITH AT 1LIFE ONLY THE DEBT COLLECTORS AGENCY .PLUS SOON AS I CANCELED IT I WAS TAKEN STRAIGHT OFF ANY CLASS BOOKINGS EVEN THO THEY SAID I HAD A MONTH OF USAGE STILL AT 1LIFE. I COULD GO ON AND ON AS THERE IS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT THIS GYM BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME.
Negative experience: They are all about lies whilst selling membership; when you learn the truth, cancellation is a nightmare !! so run wn you can and stay away
Negative experience: Rude and aggressive staff at the reception. When I had an issue to discuss the manager on duty did not seem to care much. When I wanted to complain about the issue the other staff members were whispering to each other. Very unprofessional staff. Been a member for couple of years and the staff member behaviour has been hit and miss. The App is never updated and opening timings are erratic. Don't understand why they have to close the gym early at 6:30PM. The equipment is old and dated. Out of 5 treadmills which are at least 10 years old only 1 or 2 work at any given time. People have to be in the queue for their turn for almost all the equipment. Terrible gym. Avoid.
Negative experience: Very poor in responding to queries. Put an application for son’s swimming lessons to go on waiting list. No response to emails as well.. been more than a year.
Negative experience: Please be very careful while you take family membership. I had a very bad experience to book badminton court.
Negative experience: Worst customer care I have ever come across. Could go on but better just stay away from this establishment
Positive experience: Been a member here for about three years. The range of classes and times offered makes it easier to keep fit around real life. The trainers are dedicated and really motivating. There is a nice little seating area with a cafe.
Negative experience: Classes are great, but gym is awful. Cancellation is horrific, they make it as difficult as possible and then mess you around with accounts and disabling membership. My advice: join an honest gym with easy cancellation policy like lot of newer gyms in MK. They may not have Woughton's timetable but at least you can cancel easily and online.
Fantastic experience: Great classes and facilities! Also the new manager is
Fantastic experience: Love this pool, always clean, and very close too where I live, also a good price too get in!
Negative experience: I signed up for 3 months but was signed up for 12 months without my consent and without even signing anything! When I complained about this they informed me I could cancel any time so long as I gave 30 days notice. Which I done. I also called to inform them of this which they said was fine and just to be sure I stopped my direct debit. This morning I received a text from a debt collector saying my account was overdue and that I need to pay them.. I'm so angry right now. I would avoid this place as they will screw you over!
Negative experience: This is the most annoying & unorganised leisure centre in Mk.showers for swimmers are so cold & very slow.they never wanted to replace them.my self have emailed & tell them face to face about these issues but never got an answer yet.but gym shower rooms are fabulous.dont send ur children this placejust waisting money
Negative experience: My son enjoyed swimming lessons and the coaches are nice but he is not making progress due to a neverending waiting list to move up. Manager very dismissive and patronising when asked for more information about the waiting time. We'll go to a different pool now.
Positive experience: Gym & classes areas are superb. But the changing rooms are very small and not enough showers. No shampoo etc provided, which is unexpected given the price. Staff have all been friendly & the café is good (wish it was open for breakfast when I finish swimming about 7.30 though!) However, the place really falls down on the wet side. I was only shown the pool, briefly, from the viewing gallery, on my tour. I now understand why. Changing room like a school one. Tiny cubicles, tiny lockers, 4 weak showers. All communal. No hairdryers. One mirror. Pool is very shallow at shallow end - I keep grazing my foot on the pool floor. No sauna, no steam, no jacuzzi. Just a bog standard, very small, council swimming pool from the 1980s. Really, really needs updating.
Negative experience: only good for gym and adult swim, i took my child out of the swimming lessons i will not recommend - incompetent swimming coaches, poor toilets, shabby changing rooms - also they have too many problems with their system, and are always sending harassing emails to pay this and that
Positive experience: Good choice of les Mills classes
Positive experience: It's okay
Fantastic experience: Modern and fresh. Went for a kids party and was amazing service. Great bouncy castle obstacle course
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, new facilities and refurbished rooms. Big enough car park.
Fantastic experience: Great fitness centre, hym could be beyter but lots of classes
Negative experience: Not very clean changing rooms. Hardly any usable lockers. Staff not very helpful.
Positive experience: Nice leisure centre
Positive experience: Lovely ladies at reception!
Fantastic experience: I love it
Positive experience: Excellent classes and studios! Could use more showers/toilets.
