Negative experience: Puregym Whitechapel needs to focus on ventilation and hygienic condition. Really smelly there, poor equipment!!!

This is both to control our energy usage, but also with a look to reduce our carbon footprint. By law, we have a requirement to provide a certain amount of fresh air based on occupancy levels, and our ventilation system increases and decreases at different times throughout the day and night, making sure we meet these requirements and provide good air movement around the gyms. These levels are based on size of the gym, and occupancy levels, and are regularly monitored. All member feedback is reviewed, and brought to the attention of our Facilities team, who regularly review any changes we make to our gym facilities and all feedback is taken into account when making any future changes. Negative experience: The gym itself is fine but all the toilets consistently look like the scene of a terrible, unspeakable crime

Negative experience: Decent gym equipment. Nice staff. But the cleanness of the place is really low. Toilets / shower are disgusting. Every time been there the toilet were unclean and half of the time not stocked.

Positive experience: Love it but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE turn the air conditioning on. When you’re going at 6pm and the gym is packed with no ventilation it’s unbearable

Positive experience: id say its a pretty decent gym, quite huge space with lots of equipments, i even paid 13 pounds for the first 3 months, that is very very cheap considering its a big gym, the only downside id say is that people there sometimes doesnt throw tissues into the bin and occasionally you'd see used tissues lying on the floor. not to mention theres always lots of people using the gym and you might have to wait some time. other than that, overall its a nice gym and the people working there are also very friendly and helpful

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of Pure Gym Whitechepal for a few months now, and I couldn't be happier! The gym is always clean and well-maintained, which makes for a pleasant workout environment. Negative experience: Toilets are disgusting. Always dirty or out of service. They need more toilets and they need some near the bathrooms. Having to go all the way downstairs for the toilet is inconvenient

Negative experience: The gym is generally well-equipped, with sufficient machines and weights to meet workout needs, and the atmosphere is decent. However, the men’s showers have a significant hygiene issue. There’s often a strong smell of urine, which makes using the showers an unpleasant experience. Management really needs to address this problem to ensure a clean and comfortable environment for all members.

Negative experience: Wanted to have a quick tour after coming home from work, there is no reception. You're supposed to push a button so someone comes to guide you, pushed it, waited about 5 minutes, repeated that twice, nobody came. They could have sold a membership, but apparently nobody cared.

Negative experience: I am utterly disappointed with my experience at PureGym Whitechapel, so much so that I would give it zero stars if I could. Recently, I made the mistake of leaving my locker unattended, containing valuable items such as my shoes, gymshark band, Nike hoodie, gloves, and even my Kylie Jenner lipstick. According to their policy, items should be kept for at least a week before disposal if unclaimed. However, the staff took it upon themselves to discard or potentially keep my belongings for personal use without adhering to their own guidelines. Adding insult to injury, the gym's cleanliness and organization are severely lacking. The facilities are consistently dirty, with toilets in a deplorable state. Instead of prioritizing hygiene and maintenance, it seems that staff are preoccupied with rummaging through lockers and disposing of or pilfering personal items. My overall experience at PureGym Whitechapel has been nothing short of terrible. I strongly advise anyone considering joining to steer clear of this establishment.
Fantastic experience: This is a review for a personal trainer, Lino Cardoso. I have been training with Lino on and off for a number of years. I keep following him around. Wherever he offers training, I go. From the beginning I realized his unique skill to find what you think is your limit and push you a bit further. This results in meteoric development. I mean it took me 3 months to develop skills that on video look tiring to normal people. His language is simple and straightforward. He accurately assessed my psychological mindset and gives me compassion and release from the pressure built up from my career. He is the real deal. I highly recommend Lino if you're serious about martial arts.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a proper cardio session, then do visit this PureGym and ask for PT Lino! He is an ex MMA fighter so you best believe the workouts are proper good! Finally a proper circuit class with weights, resistance bands etc...

Positive experience: Decent equipment but classes are only 30 mins long and several are canceled. Not a good gym if that's what you're into. Showers are poor water pressure and not temperature adjustable. No towel service. Budget gym.

Negative experience: Worst gym in the area not worth it too many machines out of order kids around running and seating on benches playing on phone. the other issue I don't know why didn't close the gym when the ceiling is leaking and taping the weight area too many people on 7 machines, disgraceful

Fantastic experience: I have been going to this gym for around 2 years now. Made friends with all the staff (Amrit is really kind and gives a lot of great tips!) and it is a good environment where you can easily connect with people. I've had no bad incidences since joining. Would recommend.

Negative experience: It is way to hot, it can be -1 outside and hot inside. I remember I join the gym in summer and thought it was to hot and thought it would get better in winter but it hasn’t. I guess the reason is the manager want to be in a warm workplace even if for that has to ruin the workout of hundreds. It would be a nicer place to workout if it wasn’t hot and they could save money.

Positive experience: It's nice and runs 24/7 it also has a lot of equipment. It's however lacking in some minor but specific equipments like punching bags and certain equipment for a workouts. Still a really good gym by all accounts

Negative experience: I gave you 5* exactly a year ago but it just got bad to 1*. The toilets by the lockers are ALWAYS full of water on the floor and bad smelling (most probably from the pipes), the soap dispensers in some of them are broken. The lockers on the floor are often dirty inside and many of them have a broken locker. I sent you an email requesting if you could add some LBT and Bodytone classes in the morning at 7/7:30am and extend ABS classes, no response. I sent a chaser - still nothing. Today I went to a class at 9am and guess what, the PT did not turn up lol I stayed there alone and just excersised myself. The fact that you give me a no-show because I did not turn up to the class where there are still 10spots available is a joke, yet it is okay for the PT not to turn up when there is just one person coming. I guess you do that to block to book classes for a week so that even less people turn up = no effort for you. Absolutely awful experience. It was so much better when Giampaolo was the manager, the PTs were friendly, motivated, chatty. Currently, if you see any PTs there they are only on their phones, looking absolutely demotivated. It became a sad place. There is only one lady from that previous era but I bet she will leave soon as well. As soon as I will get into my routine and will be more motivated to travel, I will definitely change the gym

Positive experience: Puregym in Whitechapel makes an exception for the Christmas holidays. Christmas is a Christian celebration. So if you are not a Christian, you will experience a closure imposed on a gym which is supposedly open 24 hours a day. So I won't be able to train for 4 days because tomorrow I start at 9 am. It pisses me off!!!
Positive experience: I’ve been going for a while now and I enjoy my time there the changing rooms are also very clean. however, 9 times out of 10 the gym is WAY too warm making me feel like I’m going to pass out during or after a workout. It makes me want to leave as fast as possible to get cool air from outside, this gym also doesn’t have any Wi-Fi what’s another negative.

Negative experience: Good sized gym which is not too busy outside of peak hours. However, it has had no working WiFi for months and frequently feels like it is not air conditioned at all. Edit: today I came into the gym and it was so warm that me and my partner were sweating before we even started working out! Please use the air-conditioning PureGym! Removed a star due to the frequency extremely hot and stagnant air in the gym, dysfunctional wifi and no hand sanitiser.

Fantastic experience: Only been to this branch a few times, but every time it’s been a good experience. Always clean, staff are friendly and respectful, and never have to wait ages for kit. Definitely somewhere to go if you like to get your head down and workout quietly, with just as much as opportunity to be social. Also shoutout to Shane and Rosie for great classes!

Negative experience: I went to this gym early this morning as it gets busier later on. I went to do some good exercise and get weights done. ALL the weights are in different places 50s are on 10 and 8s are on 50! Some shelves are empty, some are on the floor?! WTH??? what a mess! Some weights run to different fields. When was last time it got sorted?? ♂️ it says on the mirror“Please return your weights to their home” what part of basic English people don’t understand?? I came to lift low weights but after sorting and putting them in there right home I managed to complete my workout for the day. Please guys after using them put them in right place, why make life difficult for others?? Thanks

Negative experience: My class at my gym was canceled therefore decided to check out other classes on nearby gyms. One that I always attend was on so booked it and decided to give it a try. Trainer was way off the times rushing not allowing the correct time for each exercise, worst when it came to switching sides. One side would always be half the time. Didn’t feel like a workout and although trainer was late for class the class also finished early. Safe to say this will be the 1st and last time attending classes at this location.

Fantastic experience: Humble people, great 0lace to workout
Negative experience: Been here quite a lot now. Never once have the dumbells been placed in nearly a correct order. The 44s are where the 8s should be etc, you'll be very lucky to find a pair as it's a total mess. I've been first thing in the morning, midday and late at night. Both dead and busy. Just shows the staff don't really care about it.

Negative experience: Showers not working for last 3 weeks!!!

Negative experience: Still the shower of the male locker room is not fixed. Been over two weeks. The generic responses from PG is getting quite boring.
Negative experience: For the past 6 months me and my friends(teenagers) have been going to this gym, the equipment is quite good but gym can get quite packed. HOWEVER, we were recently kicked out and had our memberships terminated, as well as refused our right to appeal. This was due to me and my friends, who are college wrestlers, going into a studio room, which was empty save one worker. We asked her if its alright if we wrestle in here, which he said of course we can as we weren’t disturbing anyone. We wanted to make sure we had permission before we done anything. However, the next night we get emails of terminated memberships due to wrestling not being allowed. My friend went back to the gym to tell them we were given permission, where he was rudely told they don’t care. IMPORTANT NOTE: the whole time we were there, there was a high pitched asain worker who would always harrass us just because we’re teenagers. He definitely disliked us and I’m sure he was behind our unjust membership revoke. If ur not a huge adult, I don’t recommend this gym where workers bully you.

Negative experience: Equipment in the gym is good, disregarding the fact that the hygiene is bad, staff don’t wipe down equipment properly and there are stains left on benches after other gym members leave, locker rooms are not safe due to the extreme heat and bad smell, items aren’t safe and are normally stolen as there is no supervision or even cameras, toilets are not clean at all, normally wet floor, bad smell as always and the toilet paper is dirty. I hope the staff members would be a-bit more helpful in the gym, especially when asked for assistance, a male staff member, (looked Asian) which I asked for help during bench press ignored me to help another female member which was completely unacceptable and made me uncomfortable, I recommend other gyms due to this behaviour.

Negative experience: Been user and lover of puregym for over 3 years, having used a number of different puregym all around london. Can honestly say that this is the worst one I’ve been to. There is virtually no ventilation, the air is stuffy, smelling stale and sweaty. It’s so incredibly dark, you can barely see the other side of the gym, making it feel like an incredibly claustrophobic and demotivating environment - the changing rooms have better lighting despite being below ground level. Phone service is also shockingly bad as soon as you enter the main training area, and the wifi doesn’t work. Also have a squat rack / cage on padded floor which just doesn’t work if you’re deadlifting or squatting, and could be quite dangerous. Only have one water fountain also, which is right at the front of the gym, which is honestly just a pain to fill up water. Wouldn’t recommend. The only reason for the two stars is as it’s technically a usable gym with working equipment.

Negative experience: Cheap(ish), but not very cheeful! A dingy basement gym in Whitechapel with no ventilation: smelly, hot, and busy. Equipment is okay but the free-weight area is small and the range of weights rather slim. If you were really keen, and on a budget, you might be able to put up with all of this. After one month, I decided life is too short and cancelled my membership which, by the way, is easier said than done...there is no simple way to do this via the website/app and the most straightforward thing to do is cancel the direct debit. A couple of days after cancelling, I received an email saying the gym was closed for maintenance (plumbing). A quick scan of other reviews shows that this is a recurring issue. Honestly, you'll have a better time buying a skipping rope and doing push-ups in the park. Save yourself £30 a month.

Negative experience: Gym is okay but the lockers in the locker room need to be looked at.. they weren’t locking for me and I tried a few different ones, as did some other people (we all have different padlocks, this isn’t the problem) but when I raised it to a member of staff he brushed it off to the fact that it just must be my padlock as the issue. I use the same padlock at multiple other PureGyms with no issues so don’t see why I should need to buy any other one just for the Whitechapel gym when the chances of having the same issue is very high. Atleast there should be a memo out warning people as the chances of theft in the locker rooms is quite high.

Positive experience: Everything is ALMOST perfect...except for the air conditioning/temperature regulation. It is far too stuffy and it always seems like the AC isn't turned up high enough, or just that there is poor air circulation. As an experiment, I went to PureGym Limehouse for my previous cardio session and also checked out PureGym Canary Wharf quite recently... both were significantly cooler! As the days have been getting warmer, the Whitechapel branch has sadly become unsuitable for really intense cardio sessions. Kindly turn up the AC! Other than this, it is a fantastic gym and ticks all the boxes :) Thanks!

Fantastic experience: Superb atmosphere, friendly and very helpful staff, amazing classes. The instructors are so helpful and friendly. The Tuesday classes with Giampaolo was so good with lots of information about stretch and the main workout. The Vasillis bodytone class was amazing. He is always my favourite, his word "Bravo" always give us a kick. Wednesday Masaki LBT class was amazing.Love working with you guys as always.

Negative experience: As many others have noted, this gym is VERY frequently closed “ due to an on site maintenance issue”. They email to say it’s closed, and stress we can use a different PureGym location so we don’t have to miss a workout due to the issue. So I walk the extra 15 minutes to PureGym Aldgate, only to find it doesn’t open on the weekends. I check, and it turns out all other nearby locations are also closed on weekends. The nearest location is another 21 minutes walk away, and at this point I won’t have the time to get there, workout and get home. I am paying for a 24/7 gym and have now missed several workouts in the past couple of months because of this. The only suitable solution is a refund.

Negative experience: It’s closed down for “unexpected maintenance issues” all the time, three times in the past month at least - and the worst part is they don’t even tell you to stop you from going all the way! Truly atrocious customer service, avoid

Positive experience: The gym is wonderful. Great equipment and friendly staff. It can get a bit crowded throughout the day but that's every gym. Only drawback is the ongoing plumbing issue in the last four months that causes the gym to be shut for a day or two. Really disappointing when you get notified about the closure and have to be relocated to Shoreditch or Aldgate for that duration. Hope they get it fixed soon or I may have to change my gym altogether.

Negative experience: Worst gym ever. Manager is a disgrace. The workers dont even know how to speak english. Tiny gym for a place like whitechapel. Hardly any equipments. The workers are a joke as well, they will never help you.

Negative experience: Rusty equipment,really small space and the floor is constantly shaking from the trains running underneath and also the air circulation isn’t great and finally the machines move around a lot and feel quite cheap compared to other gyms

Negative experience: one of the worst gyms I seen I London very expensive for what they are offering , I paid plus to use the body composition I never use it every time I try it's says retry retry switch it off madness . ones i paid for drink they charged me without giving me drink , small gym plenty people , 1 pulldown machine u have to queue 30 hour to use it . ventiltetion very poor

We are retaining key elements of our TrainSafe protocols including an enhanced cleaning regime, contactless entry, guidance on respecting personal space and our equipment will retain good distancing. Negative experience: Small area for so many people.. Too expensive for what they offer and the location which is ( Whitechapel). I saw a guy in the gym without a t shirt and no one was there to tell him something ( staff) The "automatic door"..on weekends for a reason doesn't work..I saw that problem with many other people as well...so it's not automatic and you have to push it (when I saw it first time I thought it was closed) The barcode from the app doesn't work properly and I can't use it anymore and I have to use my password .. The app not good as well. And the worst thing for are the quality of the people that they are not have a towel for the exercises/machines so even if they are sweating are still using them and nobody is using the sanitaser or the hand cleaning. First time I visit a gym and it's rule number one to have a towel..if I could give 0 stars I would ...

Negative experience: The ventilation apparently doesn't work, the air quality it's poor, you can feel the humidity, its stressful. I pay premium to enjoy extra services but the weight machine doesn't work frlm one week ago and the water refill service doesn't work neither. Very dissatisfied

We pump over 2,000 litres of fresh air into our gyms every second though our ventilation systems. This helps to dilute airborne virus particles and ensure members have clean fresh air to workout. Staff do undertake regular maintenance checks and work hard with our equipment providers to ensure that our equipment is fixed as soon as possible, if any should be broken. We are equally as disappointed when this happens and sometimes need to wait on engineers but will have all equipment in full working order as soon as is safely possible. Positive experience: It's fine, toilets and equipment should be cleaned more often.
Negative experience: Not an hygienic gym. Despite the team saying that protocols of hygiene have been improved, you can't wash your hands in this gym as there is no hand disinfectant. No hand disinfectant in the toilet, no hand disinfectant near ANY sink. Everybody just go to the toilet and then put their hands everywhere... Sadly, I thought it was a one time thing but, I came several times in a few months and haven't seeing any change. I hope it will soon be resolved. Best.

Fantastic experience: Been coming here since it opened. Small compared to other PureGyms in the borough, however you have all the equipment you need for a good workout. This gym is very clean compared to the others and weights are always re-racked and can be easily found. Great staff and management.

Fantastic experience: Very small Puregym but I like it , and above ground which makes a nice change from the usual set up. The studio isn't sound proof so when a class is on it's a bit noisy

Positive experience: Clean and well equipped gym with enough bench/squat places that you dont have to wait too long in peak times. Typical commercial gym music, bring headphones. For central london cheap.

Positive experience: Great gym. Can get a bit busy from time to time but all in all, a good atmosphere. Great range of machines, great functional area space and good range of cardio machines

Positive experience: One of the smaller Puregym's I've been too, and above ground which makes a nice change from the usual set up. The time I went just after work mid week it was very, very busy, and it was a struggle to get on the equipment I wanted to use. The cardio studio isn't sound insulated and so when a class is on it's a bit annoying.

We’re afraid it's true, our gyms simply are very popular and so can become busy especially at peak times, but this does fluctuate throughout the day and from day to day.
