Kingfisher Leisure Centre

Information about Kingfisher Leisure Centre
Our comment from FitFit UK about Kingfisher Leisure Centre:
Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Kingston Upon Thames offers a friendly atmosphere perfect for families and children. Many users appreciate the large swimming pool, which features a beach entry suitable for young children and a wave machine that adds to the fun. The centre also provides affordable family swim sessions and a gym equipped with essential exercise facilities and personal training options.
However, there are notable areas for improvement. Many visitors have reported issues with cleanliness in the changing rooms and some facilities, expressing disappointment over dirty environments and unhelpful staff experiences. Additionally, the pool can get quite crowded, particularly on weekends, often leading to long waits.
Despite these challenges, the Kingfisher Leisure Centre remains a popular choice for many due to its great location near local shops and parks. Families looking for a day of fun will find plenty of enjoyable activities for all ages, from swimming to fitness classes.
Kingfisher Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: It's been shut now for a year!!why? I used to swim there every day.. Now the residents of Kingston don't have a leisure centre because Kingston council would rather make money out of student accommodation Disgusting
Fantastic experience: Great place for family swim
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed coming here with my family and friends
Positive experience: Great but very busy
Negative experience: Unhelpful staff and poor management. Unclean facilities too.
Negative experience: The place is currently closed.
Positive experience: A good place two take the kids and good value for money Helpful staff very friendly .
Fantastic experience: I really like this Leisure centre. The gym is okay, a little on the small side but everything that a basic person needs. You can have a personal trainer included in the first month of subscription and for that period he will make you a schedule and follow you. On my experience they are very good and prepared :) SWIMMING POOL The most beautiful thing of this leisure centre is the swimming pool which I love. Is the best one between Wimbledon, new Malden and Kingston. So big with many lanes, 2 pools plus a beach where you can take small children. It has also games inside for them. Sometimes in the day (not sure if only weekend) they have 10 mins of waves which are a delight for all children and adults. The other small square pool is to have lessons for children or aerobics for elder people :) SPA Well this is a downside for me. Spa has the cold bucket for shower, and many steam rooms with different heat. In the room there is a fountain with cold water where you can put your feet and has colourful lights. I don’t like Sauna so for me it’s money wasted. It’s also a small place so I don’t feel like I’m paying the right amount of money, bu that’s just me.
Negative experience: Asked a few days ago if the were open today for swimming slides as I wanted to bring my daughter as a birthday present. Took the day off work me and had to pay to get here only to be told the pool was closed due to lack of lifeguards. My daughter is extremely sad and I am really annoyed, worst place I've been. Thank you so much for ruining my daughter's present guys.
Positive experience: We've been here a few times with our older two ages 6 and and 9 and decided to bring our 3 month old twins this time. The water is warmer than most pools we've been to and the pool is big enough to not feel crowded. The family changing rooms are a nice size but the whole place never feels clean. The toilets are always blocked and not flushed properly. Still doesn't stop us from visiting just be nice if they were inspected and cleaned more.
Fantastic experience: great clean leisure centre we could do with a leisure centre like kingfisher to replace the outdated latchmere leisure centre in Battersea
Fantastic experience: Both swimming pool and gym are great
Positive experience: 游泳池适合2到4岁的小朋友,有一些小朋友玩的玩具,学生放假的时候有波浪,按时间收费,要自己带锁,就是卫生差了一点
Positive experience: My boys love the wave machine. Bring your own padlock for lockers
Fantastic experience: Always like taking the grandchildren swimming.
Positive experience: I love swimming here - as it is quiet after 7pm. But I am frustrated by the customer service. - I try to ring to find out why a lesson is cancelled and no answer, the person on the desk is brutally rude, aggressive and not worth engaging with. I wish I could talk to anyone else!
Negative experience: Rubbish. Staff and place.. Gym opens after 8am on Saturday with wrong information on websides. No information from staff on entrance. Primitive Lazy cow on reception. Rubbish.
Fantastic experience: Clean facilities and friendly, helpful staff
Positive experience: I was disappointed with the so called "changing village". It was not situated in a rural area and there was no village shop or pub. In fact it appeared to be not a village at all, but just a normal changing area such as you would find in any swimming pool. What a con.
Positive experience: Nice family swimming, good atmosphere, good like sea waves pleasant staff bit expensive bathing clothes. Generally good
Fantastic experience: Excelente piscina para toda la familia
Positive experience: Changing rooms always dirty
Negative experience: Went for a swim with my family at the weekend. Absolutely disgusted by the state of the pool changing rooms and the upstairs toilets (it was only 10am when we went). Is this place EVER cleaned ? I could barely bring myself to let my 3 year old have a pee in the upstairs toilet. Or get changed in the gross cubicles downstairs. It’s such a shame. The pool is ever so lovely for little ones. If they don’t catch some kind of disease...
Positive experience: Great for the kids
Negative experience: Some staff members here are very rude. Basically team messed up, I tried complaining to the manager who said he couldn't help me and told me there was nothing he could do.I escalated to senior management who then opted to reimburse me due to thier error! The arrogant manager from before didn't even apologise!
Fantastic experience: Great swim Not too busy
Positive experience: Visited on a Saturday with the tiny one. Had a fun for of hours in the pool, but no wave machine which was disappointing.
Negative experience: Brought my child for a swim on hot day. We and other families were turned away because they failed to have enough staff and lifeguards ready for such a busy day and were closing the pool to kids. Bit useless.
Fantastic experience: Great
Positive experience: Good poll for having fun not for swimming though the waves are amazing
Positive experience: Brilliant for young children! A beach like entrance with great fascilities. Our family love it!
Negative experience: Do not sign up to their children (baby to 6 years old) swimming classes. Especially the weekend swimming classes. The weekend swimming teachers are unprofessional and mostly chat amongst themselves and with the lifeguard instead of concentrating on the children’s swimming techniques or getting them to have fun. There are so many (around 10-14) children in the 1 30 mins class with only 2 teacher. The children can only do a max of 3-4 swims and the majority of time is waiting for their turn. The teachers doesn’t seem to be prepared on what to teach and just ‘wing’ it during the class. Not worth it. Experience for weekday classes are much better but for a family with both parents working full time, we can only do things in the weekend.
Positive experience: Good sized changing room facilities, pool wasn’t too busy, waves were on today which was great my children enjoyed it, don’t park in the cattle market car park though you’ll pay a literal arm.. £8.05 for 90 minutes today, park elsewhere but otherwise the swimming pool is great.
Positive experience: Poor service
Negative experience: Changing rooms for pool often filthy. All too frequently several showers are out of order.
Fantastic experience: Great leisure pool
Positive experience: Nice place but water are too cold in the winter. They don't warm them enough so maybe only during summertime.
Fantastic experience: Calm
Positive experience: This is a great local pool and the kids love the wave machine which, at the weekend, comes on about every half an hour The pool is heated, the showers are hot and the changing rooms are clean The pool is close to parking and all of the shops and restaurants Kingston has to offer The only down side to the pool (hence four stars) is the waiting to get into the pool It can get so busy (particularly at the weekend) that a queue forms to get into the pool which can be up to an hour's wait! Not much of a problem now that we know the drill and expect a wait, as we wander around Kingston until our wait is up (after we've paid and gained our bands of course ) There is also a nice little park right outside, so if the kids haven't expelled enough energy after swimming, the park will help there too
Negative experience: There are a few bad things about this place. One of them is that you have to buy a lock for about £5 or bring your own lock. Also, the swimming pool needs refurbishing. They should also add more private showers. Most of them are normal
Positive experience: Changing rooms were filthy but swimming pool was fun for kids
Positive experience: Shared facilities and don't forget the padlocks for locker Spas lovely
Positive experience: Good
Fantastic experience: It's a very nice place I came here last week it's so nice to go to and there is a wave machine there
Fantastic experience: Swim there 8 times a week. Nothing wrong with it.
Negative experience: Not many adult lanes for swimming. During the weekend they use the swimming lanes for kid classes so we ended up more than 6 adults in one lane .
Negative experience: Signed up for membership to the gym and pool, however the lanes are constantly in use for private swimming lessons. The system to access the gym and spa facilities is a absolutely antiquated and long... The gym is minimal and overcrowded. As a result cancels the membership during the 14 day cooling off period.
Fantastic experience: Great for small children when it's not too busy.
Positive experience: Could do with updating & a good clean
Negative experience: One star is even too much for this place! The gym is small and old. The building itself is dirty, changing room is even worse and staff are not very useful. Here they care you to pay money only and don’t offer any service to their costumers! Overall I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Positive experience: Good experience. Some of the changing areas were looking a little worse for wear with showers not working, doors being broken and walls being dirty. Great pool though and relatively quiet for this time of day (Sunday late morning).
Negative experience: Went to swim with my friend and her baby and was told we couldn't swim because there wasnt enough lifeguards and it would of been ok to swim if we didnt have a baby with us. Found this quite strange ... we had to find something else to do that day.....
Fantastic experience: Big swimming pool and have regular classes for members and non members
Negative experience: This is horrible gym. Staff and manager are unprofessional. never again. I advise against.
Positive experience: Not enough lockers. Also, could improve the food offering for afterwards
Negative experience: Dirty changing rooms. Smell of urine.
Positive experience: Was good to swim.
Positive experience: Ok
Positive experience: Has all you would expect
Negative experience: Very poor service, unprofessional staff and inefficient management. Shockingly unfriendly to service user Decided to leave. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone
Positive experience: Convenient but you have to bear the constant screaming of children and 1000db despacito from the zumba class.
Fantastic experience: Good for family
Fantastic experience: Nice pool
Positive experience: I use the swimming pool, which usually has 4-5 lanes in the mornings
Positive experience: Confusing locker system and not much swimming water.
Negative experience: Signed up for a baby and med pilates, only to be told when I showed up that it was cancelled... "Didn't I read the flyer that said they were refurbishing?" No!..... And it would have been great if the lady selling me the ticket the day before would have known! Got baby ready in the morning and rushed out for absolutely no bloody reason... Am not impressed!
Negative experience: Worst gym in Kingston rude staff bad customer service dirty equipment always broken sauna and steam room is aways colder than it should be even no they have spent stuiped money trying to put it right changing rooms need doing up big time dirty and smells
Positive experience: Very friendly staff
Positive experience: Good cost. But showers need work
Fantastic experience: Amazing trainers in the gym. Also they have a lovely pool for kids.
Negative experience: I'd like to report a very unfortunate incident we had on 29th of June evening. We arrived at the center and went to take a swim as usual before using health suite facilities. 3 of the lanes were closed for lessons, leaving 2 lanes only for swimming, being a casual swimmer we took the medium lane. Into 10-15 mins of our swimming, some guy decided to jump into the pool from side, trying timed swimming episodes in the medium lane. Went ahead and started complaining about how we swimmed slower than himself and should move to spow lane, which we could not as the lane was simply used by beginners. He then went ahead and complained to one of your employees(guy with long blonde hair), which came around in an absolute rude manner, trying to dictate us to move to other lane. Still kept our polite and told the lane was simply too slow for us, and it is not our problem if a guy wants to break world records in the only available.medium lane. When we told him about, he went ahead in a further embarrassing manner, trying to put a lane sign to the kids swimming side, shouting and whistling us insisting to move. We swimmed for further 15 mins and on our way out I went to talk with him about his.manners and how he acted wrong taking sides with somebody, almost dictating other people to leave. The employee then started to act in a not-caring way, making disgusting manners and racial remarks not looking at us whilst talking and not shaking our hand in an almost overseeing manner. We felt really stressed and horrified seeing this kind of treatment in such a diverse place as Kingston, and feel absolutely broken as we are long members of your health centre, and never even had the thought that an employee could see in himself to treat people from different races in this manner. I hope you take this seriously and take necessary action against this employee. We see our community as one and can never tolerate such action to anyone including ourselves. We also.would like to mention in the event we don't get the necessary response, we will be taking this with our solicitor, making sure it don't go unnoticed.
Fantastic experience: Perfect para toda la familia, mis hijas y yo nos divertimos muchisimo. Accesible en cuanto a precios.
Negative experience: Its a good place for kids, staffs are good too but all the lifegaurds are very rude. If you dont care about customer service then its a good place but dont expect to get a good customer service here.
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Great martial arts club there on Saturdays at 1pm - (Kung fu, kickboxing, self defence, fitness and lots of fun for kids and adults plus whole families go there). Staff friendly. Swimming pool and gym. Some areas have been refurbished.
Negative experience: I read the reviews before we went regarding the staff and how rude and interested the are when it comes to customers but we still went. And yes we experienced an awful experience I went with my 3 children aged 13 10 and 1 I'm also 7 months pregnant. I asked to take the buggy down stairs to the changing room between the to girls they said yes. Got the kids sorted into the pool buggy on the side to then be asked to get out and move the buggy upstairs a lifeguard said she would move it for me to a locker. Then another lifeguard said I need to move it upstairs in my swim wear even though I'm wet and have a 1 year old on me I said I couldn't, so she called the so called deputy manager that asked me to get out the pool again called me a liar and said I should leave the baby with my 13 year old soon with the baby and move the buggy by then my partner came to the pool to join us.Craig then again called me a liar infront if my children for saying I was by myself which I was. His behaviour as a so called deputy manager was disgraceful so I asked for a refund he said no gave me the mangers email I emailed him to no reply the staff are awful and untrained and look like they need a shake up and good revamp on the staff.Especially CRAIG
Positive experience: The adult lane swimming slot is now shared (during term time) with junior swimming, reducing the adult lanes to 3/6 (often resulting in 3-5 people sharing a swimming lane). Recently, the pool has been very overcrowded during these sessions, resulting in an incident today where a very arrogant swimmer throwing his toys out of the pram and demanding his own lane (as he has done on many occasions) and the lifeguard giving into his temper tantrum, further crowding the existing lanes. Kingfisher should either extend the pools hours on a Tuesday/Wednesday or open a first come, first serve lane service for those who think they are Micheal Phelps so ordinary swimmers do not need to put up with snobbish hissy fits from so called, self proclaimed "elite swimmers"
Positive experience: We mainly use the pool which is ok if you choose the right time, otherwise it can be pretty busy. The changing rooms need more TLC, as we've often found them a little dirty. Part of that will be down to users, but if they looked and felt nice I'm sure they'd be treated better. The children's pool could do with a few more features too. I feel like there's so much space there, which isn't being used effectively. I've been to smaller swimming pools with more features, like lazy rivers, slides, diving boards etc. Just an OK pool.
Positive experience: I have very mixed feelings about this place, sometimes you get there and the staff have zero interest in serving customers and other times you get there and the same staff give the best service and actually are happy to help. The swimming facilities are great and the my 3 girls love it, I have a daughter with Down Syndrome and the beach area is perfect for her to get in and play independently as she likes to be a big girl, as this is the only pool near by with a beach area. It's pretty much the only pool we can attend.
Fantastic experience: Good gym with plenty of free weights and machines. Pool with wave machine for the kids. It was state of the art in the 80's and has aged ok
Fantastic experience: Fun place to swim with your kids, always have one adult per child though, I made the mistake of taking both of mine there with just me looking after them but when the wave machine turns on I regretted that.
Positive experience: Looking for new gym/swim/classes option to change from another sport centre I've got. Investigate the website - not enough information, not completed, misleading, no pictures. Not even completed packages description. I've decide to visit. What a surprise! Swimming pool a bit dated but spacious, newly refurbished changing rooms and the biggest surprised - the wellness with usual steam room and sauna, and on the top of it salt chamber, infrared sauna and heated lunges! Gym - looks neat and clean, not massively big... In general I think really good place and really good value for money of the membership. Very competitive, visit and have a look :)
Positive experience: Good pool and friendly staff
Positive experience: The wave machine is great fun and plenty of space for lane swimming in the evenings. The changing rooms and loos could really do with a revamp.
Positive experience: Friendly staff and lots you do but no parking facilities!!!
Positive experience: I've only used the swimming pool at the weekend. Great for kids as there's plenty of apparatus for them to play with, plus wave machine and 'beach area'. Can be very busy, but they operate timed sessions during peak times and the wait is not usually more than about 10 minutes. If you arrive before 11am, normally it's fine. Pool is clean without being too heavy with chlorine. Main pool suitable for kids 2yrs and up but younger are permitted. Changing rooms are spacious and there are family cubicles and free-to-use hairdryers. Cleanliness about par for a public swimming pool. They have overshoes available. Warm showers available but bring your own soap.
Negative experience: Water was cold, the changing room unacceptable freezing.
Fantastic experience: ALOT BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. THE OUTSIDE LOOKS BROKEN AND DIRTY BUT THE INSIDE IS GREAT. MY KIDS LOVED IT.
Positive experience: Good pool, shower & change area a bit exposed / chilly.
Negative experience: The gym is ok but if your under 16 your not allowed in until a certain time which is ridiculous, because apparently it’s for our own safety for a worker to make sure we’re doing it properly when the workers are either not there or on their phones
Negative experience: Swimming: I have recently been swimming here at Kingfisher after reading the very good reviews however my experience was not as good as theirs were. First of all, the changing rooms were DISGUSTING. I walked into one of the family changing rooms and I found a USED nappy. I went into a different changing room and found another USED nappy outside of my door! I thought that it wasn’t anything too bad then I went into the pool. It was absolutely horrible. I found flakey green things in the water, weird black spots, raisins and plasters! I understand some people may have caused this and you can’t do anything, but I wasn’t happy with with my experience. We had decided to get out of the pool after only half an our as the water tasted of blood. Although the wave machine was fun, I suggest you clean the pool frequently! We then went to shower, a few of the showers failed to work, so it meant we had to wait for others to finish. Overall, I think that the Swimming Pool needs a better clean.
Fantastic experience: Good
Negative experience: Higyne needs to improve a Looooot in bathrooms and changing rooms. Actually everywhere
Negative experience: I was very impressed because it has a gym and a swimming pool as well.
Positive experience: Pool is good but let down by changing rooms not being the cleanest, no changing facilities for small children. You need your own padlock but lock needs to be pretty thin.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym facilities and health suite and swimming facilities...
Positive experience: Basic public pool that needs a refurb. Visited kingfisher for the first time in 20 years on Saturday with my family. The facilities here are ok with a pool, gym, cafe etc. There is parking very close - we parked in the cattle market car park - right next to kingfisher. Disappointing that the pool was due to close at 6.30 when the website claimed 8pm, therefore we only had about 45 mins in the pool. Kids enjoyed themselves but none of the fountains were working and the kids pool was closed, meaning my 10 month old child was shivering after 10 minutes in the adult pool. Changing rooms seemed clean and the pool was well kept but a bit cold. The building and facilities have changed little in 20 years and it's really showing in my opinion, especially the pool area. Website is poor and shows inaccurate visitor information.
Negative experience: Cold water, unfriendly staff, not very clean
Fantastic experience: Nice
