We take great pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness at our venues, and we apologise that this fell short during your visit. Regarding the pool rules, the leisure attendant provided the correct guidance on both occasions. However, we understand that how these safety measures are communicated is important, and we’ll be passing this feedback to the management team to review and address. The safety rules are established by our health and safety team with the well-being of our customers as the top priority. We understand your concerns about the face masks steaming up. While it's true that both face masks and goggles can fog, face masks tend to steam up more easily due to exhalation through the nose, which reduces visibility. Goggles, with their slimmer design, are easier to adjust or remove when this happens, making them a safer option. In the pool we have designated areas for swimmers using armbands to ensure their safety. If swimmers move beyond these areas, it is the leisure attendant’s responsibility to guide them back to ensure a safe swimming experience for everyone. Thanks again for sharing your feedback.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. Please note the usual session swim time is 45 minutes, at quite times we are not as strict with the session time, however 2 hours considerably higher than normal swim session time. The pool is divided for safety reasons, swimmers using floatation aids such as armbands are not permitted to swim in deep water area. This rule has been set up for customer safety. I would like to apologise if you feel our staff were rude to you, this is something that is not acceptable and we will pass on your comment to our management team.

Hi Gail, sorry to hear about this negative experience. During the school holidays we have a higher customer demand and we hit the maximum bather numbers quickly. One of the downside of this inflatable is that although great fun for the kids the pool capacity is reduced for safety reasons during these sessions. We have had similar complaints from other customers about this and we are looking at ways to improve this process. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope this does not put you off visiting again in the future.

Hi Amanda, sorry to hear of the negative experience you had while visiting. Please note pre-booing was only required during lockdown. However on some occasions, we have to limit the numbers of swimmers using the pool at one time. Although frustration this is with customer safety in mind.

Hi Paul, the Splash out for Nowt swimming is a Fife-wide initiative available throughout the School holidays offering free swimming 9am to 5pm. Please note, this offer is subject to availability and opening times. Our pool closes during the day, if you visit our website you can download the pool timetable highlighting the swimming availability (see link below). Sorry you feel that East Sands is only a 2 star facility, we know the lunchtime closure is frustrating. These changes to opening times were due to budget pressures which meant it was not possible to maintain current levels of existing services. The reduction in hours also happened at several other leisure centres in Fife. These closures have been made at times quieter off-peak times as to have minimal impact on centre users.

Hi Leanne, At the time you visited it was incredibly busy, with unprecedented numbers of customers looking to attend the facilities. We had the maximum of 70 in the pool in each session, with over 100 people were waiting just before 2.00pm, because of these unusually high numbers we had no option to put a queue in place for access rather than just sending people away. We had a delayed inflatable session due in at 3.00pm, management had to assist the leisure attendants with setting up the pool inflatable to help get customers in the pool as soon as possible, unfortunately this meant that some customers were approaching reception looking for access who had not been waiting. We do not take payment until just before the session to prevent having to give refunds if they are unable to use the pool. On this occasion it sounds like you may have been one of the last ones into the session, the management team were under the impression that the pool was cleared at 3.15pm and then 4.30pm, we are not sure who told you it was time to leave, and we would like to apologise for this. The entry for these sessions is something we need to improve, and protocols will be in place to make the experience better before the Summer. Please understand that this experience is not the exception rather than the norm, we would hope this does not put you off visiting again in the future.

Like many pools in Fife and beyond, the demand especially during school holidays and weekends is high, we have a safe capacity set to ensure our lifeguards can monitor all bathers. Please do not let this incident put you off visiting again in the future.

Hi Alex, thank you for your feedback, we are sorry you feel East Sands is only a 1 star leisure centre. We appreciate your frustration about the festive closures, please note we have closed for 2 weeks over the festive period for quite a number of years now. We would have to politely disagree with your last sentence. We try our upmost to inform customers of these closures. The festive opening times were displayed in the leisure centre from the beginning of December. This information was also on our website, and social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. It was also emailed to Leisure Active members and those in our Learn to Swim programme. This information was also sent to local press. We could consider adding a further customer notice to the outside of the building next year, however this would not have helped with your wasted journey. We hope this frustrating experience does not put you off visiting in the future.

Our student policy may seem a little over complicated, but, we need to ensure the concession scheme is not used inappropriately and that people claiming the student discount are doing so legitimately. With regards our swim sessions, as you can appreciate, the centre is very popular and has to meet the needs of a wide range of users so we aim to ensure the pool is managed to allow all customers a fair amount of swim time and we don’t have to turn people away due to lack of capacity. As a charitable trust, we are committed to providing affordable, good quality, accessible sports and leisure facilities to suit all ages and abilities so that communities can enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits associated with physical activity. As a charitable trust, we do strive to deliver the best for our customers both in terms of facilities and customer experience and it is thanks to people like you, who choose to use us over private gyms, that we can continue to reinvest back into our centre for the benefit of the local community. Our gyms are all equipped with Technogym equipment – Technogym is a renowned supplier in the fitness industry - and East Sands Leisure Centre’s gym has very similar equipment to those in our other centres across Fife. As for our fitness class timetable, we currently offer 26 classes per week with a wide range of choice from yoga to triathlon training. We would love to have the opportunity to chat through your concerns and we invite you to speak with staff the next time you are in the centre who would be happy to discuss more fully with you what the centre has to offer.

Hi Fiona, thank you for your feedback and we are sorry your recent experience at East Sands Leisure Centre fell short of your expectations. We ensure that all our pool programmes are easily available on our website and at the time of your visit it was the aquarun session which is popular with families and young children – our receptionist probably assumed you were aware of this and that you were happy to make use of the pool under these circumstances – however, we will pass on your comments to staff to ensure customers are aware of the pool configuration before entering. I would suggest that you take a few minutes to review our website for the latest information on pool availability and other centre updates to avoid disappointment in the future. All our centres operate a rota of monitoring areas for cleanliness and I will pass on your comments regarding the toilet area to centre staff to avoid any shortfalls in the standards we expect. I hope your experience will not deter you from making use of trust facilities in the future.

Communal changing areas are common, the newest leisure facilities in Fife feature communal changing areas, these are especially helpful for families using our facilities. Privacy is available using the cubicles.

Sorry that the comment was missed, hygiene is something that we take very seriously, staff monitor all areas of the building regularly, if you see something that is not right please hygiene this to a member of staff and they will clean the area in question as soon as they can.
