Wetherby Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Abhorrent behaviour from staff. Beyond rude. Would highly recommend that you avoid this leisure centre.
Fantastic experience: Recently joined after leaving an expensive private gym / pool facility. Staff are extremely helpful and polite. Facilities are excellent. Gym equipment and set up is superb. Pool and changing rooms are kept really clean. Joined on the Black Friday deal. Unbeatable value and better equipment than my previous gym.
Positive experience: Clean and welcoming. Recently refurbished but still a bit old fashioned. Friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Gran gimnasio con todo lo que necesites... Desde pileta hasta clases de lo que quieras, en un ambiente limpio y cordial!
Negative experience: Staff were rude not professional at all!! We booked small children pool however They booked us in wrong long pool lane for my kids 3 and 5 year old who can not swim and they insisted that it’s suitable for them we found it’s was dangerous we left pool immediately! When we explained and tried speak with the receptionist and duty manger they were not listening to our concerns that our children can’t swim we booked a small pool not a long one! They said it’s our fault we should know which pool we book that’s not right we asked for small pool for kids and if the small pool were CLOSED we should of been told but instead they booked us wrong pool and put our kids in danger the manager she over reacted!!
Positive experience: I love my local pool and am missing it. Please hurry and open up.
Negative experience: The gym is in the basement and spread across a few connecting rooms. There are mirrors on the walls, so you can see around and behind you, which is better than staring at a blank wall when you're on the treadmill, etc. It is well-equipped for a small, old council gym (better than Fearnville, for example). The air con seemed to me to be at the wrong end of the gym - near the entrance with the weights, when it would be more use over the cardio equipment. The changing facilities are for both swimming and the gym, so the floors are wet, and unfortunately also dirty, old and cold; plus the showers aren't hot, so I would skip that if I go again - it was basically a race to get dry and clothes on as fast as possible. I used a Hussle pass, but swimming times here are really limited - the timetable is full of classes, kids' lessons and "staff training" (an empty pool). Strangely, the receptionist asked to see ID when I gave my Hussle code - never had that before and no idea why she needed it (?). If you're buying one-off swim/gym sessions, buying through Hussle is a lot cheaper (the council's crazy logic).
Positive experience: A bit of TLC needed but overall good. I use the pool, no complaints there and the staff is always helpful.
Positive experience: It’s a local authority-run leisure centre so don’t expect anything flashy. The changing rooms always look tired, but they’re kept pretty clean. Swimming lessons are always running to time and the teachers and staff are all great. Parking is never a problem (apart from on Saturday mornings if there’s football on!).
Negative experience: The manager should be fired they have no clue or common sence how to run a leisure centre. 1. Maybe one day before I die, they will fix the drinks machine. And maybe stock it with drinks that are not designed to kill you slowly 2. Hopefully, someone will have common sense to turn the heaters off in the gym. One side is cold, and the other is like an oven. 3. If I was called Alan Carr, I could maybe deal with working out to "It's raining men. 4. There is no wifi signal in most parts of the gym. A wifi extender costs around £25. 5. There's a lot of equipment that doesn't get used. No sign of a proper bench, the most recognised equipment in any gym. 6. My little girl doesn't need to see a grey old man's willy 2 feet in front of her when going into changing rooms. 7. Nobody wants to wait in a queue to sign into the gym 8. Why have a gym staff in the gym not doing nothing? Just stood there thinking why have I got this job. Let them go around the gym giving tips, wipe some equipment down, and help and inspire people. 9. Secure expensive bike sheds with a £2 lock on it. 10. Parents and their kids have to walk on the road to get to their car.
Positive experience: Staff lovely. Main pool great. Could do with a sign to take shoes off before going into changing rooms that would help. And a sign to have a shower before entering pool
Fantastic experience: Great classes, very welcoming staff.
Positive experience: Swimming, football, + nice walk by the river, then into town for Lunch, brilliant
Fantastic experience: I am loving going to Aqua gold, but unfortunately it is closing for 4: weeks it having a makeover.
Positive experience: Went swimming with my toddler and husband at the weekend. It's now dated and could do with upgrading. The changing rooms needed cleaning. Surprised that there was no family changing area. The pool itself was fine.
Negative experience: Good selection of toys for the kids to play with in the pool. Could do with modernisation, changing rooms dated. Quite pricey for a council run pool in my opinion and the lady on reception didn't seem happy to be working on a Sunday!
Negative experience: I recently visited this leisure center and overall, the swimming pool was enjoyable. However, I was very disappointed to find that the women’s changing room was invaded by young boys, not just one or two, but several! It felt intrusive and inappropriate as it is a private space for females.
Positive experience: Had a recent face lift and some new equipment but nothing major. It needs a better gym, better changing facilities and something similar to the one at holt park
Positive experience: Dated Pool built in 1976...... But clean pool, welcoming Staff.
Fantastic experience: Nice workout followed by a lovely ♂️
Fantastic experience: Does everything a leisure centre should and the staff are great.
Negative experience: Poor experience! Came here to use the last swim session (Lane swim, Friday evening 8 - 8.45pm) I arrived at 8.15 and went to pay and said that they had already cashed up! So it was really nice of them to let me in for free. Realising I hadn't any money for my locker they said that couldn't give me any change because they had cashed up!! They did offer me a bag to put my things in and leave at poolside. To be honest I felt uncomfortable doing that and I had trouble understanding why they simply couldn't give me a pound. The conversation did get a bit heated and they shown me a poster saying that they dont except verbal, threatening or abuse!! Don't think they liked my views or opinions!! In hindsight I probably did overeat!! From what I could see everything else looked good. Drinks and snack machines, changing area clean and showers worked and we're good. Pool was at a comfortable temperature.
Positive experience: Parking a bit tight for space when it is busy
Positive experience: This is your 90's old-school sports centre so don't expect anything fancy. I find it invokes nostalgia! Everything works well and staff seem friendly. I like it as it's small, not rammed full of people and has everything you need- pool, gym, and limited classes. Weights area is tiny and presents somewhat of a safety hazard- too small an area for the amount of equipment in the space. You can just about manage a deadlift in the space. The gym floor could do with expansion but I don't think it's in the pipeline.
Negative experience: Only one 12kg dumbbell
Positive experience: Nice swimming pool. Bit outdated, could do with redecorating and water was cold but overall it served its purpose
Positive experience: We went to the pool. The pool itself was fine, if a little worn and could do with a deep clean, the water was really cold, the changing rooms after were even colder, so no relief there. The saving grace was the free hair driers, so at least the kids didn't have to go outside with wet hair. When paying there was clearly 1 extra adult who hadn't paid, so who was watching, we weren't advised of any viewing area, so after 3/4hr sitting on pool side watching, was shown to the viewing area. This was really out of the way. Could some benches not be put in?! All in all a little disappointed but the kids had fun and that's the main thing.
Fantastic experience: Good place
Fantastic experience: Great staff and equipment
Fantastic experience: Been going swimming since reopen Absolutely fantastic Very clean and easy Staff couldn't be more helpful Fabulous
Negative experience: Gym is poor now and the equipment needs a big upgrade. Changing rooms really need an upgrade, they feel so dirty. A lot of the other Bodyline/Leeds City Leisure Centres are in a lot better shape. The staff are really good to be fair.
Negative experience: Leisure centre has seen better days, the gym is lacking space, equipment plus it's quite expensive for what you get compared to gym chains in cities that are half the price and double the spec. The music playlist is outdated and not very motivating music, with the changing room (unmodernised for over 30 years) blasting out adverts at you. They do everything to extract more money out of you and very unhelpful if you forget your card (they claim to be unable to search on their system which they can do). So many better facilities out there that actually look after and treat their customers with respect (have now cancelled my membership as a result).
Positive experience: So far, so good. Helpful receptionists, lovely venue. Changing rooms could do with a make over. Aqua aerobics with Jane is amazing. Free weeks pass was great I worked out what I did and didn't want to do class wise.
Positive experience: Ok , but needs to improve on accessibility
Fantastic experience: Back in Weth visiting parents for 1 month so just using the gym while I’m here. Friendly and helpful staff. When I explained they mentioned there was a deal on for 30 quid for the month which was perfect for me and saved a lot of money. The gym is well kitted out but it’s not a massive space. Other gym goers friendly and polite. The changing rooms haven’t changed in 20 years but they’re clean enough and everything works well. The toilets are clean and modern. They keep the gym nice and cool. Overall, fantastic experience.
Negative experience: There was a drowning child and the life guard laughed at it
Fantastic experience: Great day at weatherby food festival, with live music great cocktails and a choice of beers not to mention the fantastic choice of street foods and local food stalls. If you do read this then it finishes on Sunday 8th. I believe the music goes on till quite late.
Negative experience: Outdated equipment not maintained properly showers smell bad floors dirty. closed for most national holidays and closes early on saturdays.
Negative experience: Don't they ever answer the bloody phone?
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, great facilities!
Negative experience: RUDE staff, I attended the gym a few times and brought my partner to join with me. When I joined a week earlier, the receptionist asked if I had been to a Leeds City Council gym before and I said yes and she signed me up without an induction (did no search of my name, didn't ask for proof). I then brought my partner who was 'served' by the rudest lady i've ever encountered (after she ignored us and chatted to another member of staff for approx ten minutes) and told him she needed proof of his membership with another gym (why wasn't I asked for this when I came a week earlier?) he then said he would book on for an induction and she signed and told him the next induction wasn't for two weeks. I think she just wanted rid of us. I have cancelled my membership and will definitely not be recommending to others. Back to Pure Gym who care about their clients for me!
Positive experience: Tom you need to toughen up about or join a spa. The facilities provided aren't perfect but they're alright considering the age of the building etc. I like WLC.
Positive experience: Not a great gym, opening and closing times aren't suitable for someone who works nights. It's freezing outside of the showers and pool.
Fantastic experience: We are blessed with such a large swimming pool, here in such a small town. There's also a small gym, and an upstairs area for group aerobics and so on. There is full wheelchair access to the swimming pool, including poolside changing room and a pool hoist for both pools. The disabled changing room is far too hot though! The staff are excellent - highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: I go swimming on a Saturday morning and it's never too busy, its nice and clean and the showers are lovely and warm.
Positive experience: Good local leisure centre, relatively clean and tidy. Helpful staff although coffee machine is extortionate. Work strange opening times over bank holiday periods with all services generally closed. Easy access to check opening the times through the Leeds leisure services web site
Positive experience: Small gym but has the majority of what you need, the pool is okay but is slightly outdated
