Bannatyne Health Club and Spa: Opinions
Negative experience: My sister booked a spa day for two for Christmas for me through wowcher for bannatyne, I was so chuffed never had a gift like that before , tried to book for your manchester spa to be told we couldn't book manchester because my sister paid for a premium voucher and not standard , so she then as to change it to a standard booking so we could go to our local one manchester, we then book it for 26th March planning it as a day out and I then here it's closing down easter weekend, so I get concerned and phone a number of times and received a number of emails to confirm all is still OK and going ahead , I even rang today to triple check yep all OK, 3hrs later I then get a cancellation phone call hrs after they Confirmed all was OK, need I say I'm fumming and disappointed and will never book here again or recommend it to friends or family Debbie
Fantastic experience: Me and my husband had a lovely massage at the Bannatyne spa today. We chose this location due to the beautiful historic 1930's original pool in the basement. We were horrified to learn that the health club is about to close at the end of March 2024, and Kinrise the developer are going to fill the 1930's pool in with concrete and make it into offices. Manchester city council should be absolutely ashamed if they allow this to happen. It should remain open as a health club, to be enjoyed by all, it is one of the last 1930's pools which are open in the country, and possibly the only one in a purpose built office building. The buildings grade II listing attests to it's significance, and I can't actually believe the developers are allowed to commit this atrocity, all in the name of greed and profit.
Positive experience: We enjoyed our visit, but I admit I expected a bit more luxury from the spa/pool area. There were areas that could have benefited from a bit more regular cleaning, and the changing areas had several areas that needed maintenance. Our treatments were very good, and the staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Negative experience: It’s got facilities I like, sauna hot tub & pool. But the pool, which used to be a comfortable temperature, is now freezing cold. Considering the monthly cost it seems they’re cutting corners to save money… which is also evident in the cleanliness. I now go to the Y down the road which is a lot cleaner & has a lovely warm pool!
Positive experience: A bit worn out, but still functional in a good location.
Positive experience: Staff and spa treatment were lovely. The pool and facilities are very tired and need a lot of work. Paid £10 to use a towel and robe and the robes had holes in them, disappointing for the amount paid.
Positive experience: Friend bought me a spa day package, loved the place. Pool is a little old fashioned but I really liked it. Massage was lovely too
Positive experience: It's small. It's got everything you'd expect in a gym with a pool but it's in dire need of a makeover and the signage to navigate the place is useless. Might have expected a free towel to use on a spa day - not be having to pay extra for one. However, it was the best massage I've ever had. Francesca is a magician. All the staff were friendly too.
Fantastic experience: Nice atmosphere and friendly staff and great facilities. Massage treatment was really nice from worker Federica - she was very kind. Would come again
Negative experience: After a member of our organisation that came in for a spa day and come back in tears due to rude staff I doubt I be booking anyone else in here from our organisation and I will share this information to the 150 members really disappointing but thank you Francesca you was lovely
Positive experience: Is a good place to workout just a little bit old and need some keep up
Positive experience: Pool area felt dated but everywhere was really clean and the spa treatments were amazing!
Fantastic experience: Came through when the Whitworth street branch was closed for maintenance. Good gym has everything you need and plenty of space
Negative experience: One of the worst gym and spa I could ever join. The changing rooms are filthy dirty. The steam room and sauna also awful. Jacuzzi is dirty as well doesn’t do the job and steam room never works. Gym is only ok thing, has most equipment but nothing special. I felt waterside in Cheadle to join here, worst decision ever. Also leaving the gym isn’t simple you need to fill out 100 forms. But honestly the toilets and changing room is so filthy I’ve puked up when I saw someone had taken a poo on the floor and managed to miss the toilet. Previously I’ve seen all toilets in male section just flooded with excrement!! So disgusting and vile, never returned after I had puked up from how unhygienic and disgusting Bannatyne. Prices are appealing but the services are very much not. Would not recommend to a friend or foe.
Positive experience: We was 5 mins late to our appointment then we have to walk 6 mins to actually get there, we felt rushed not prioritised and was abit unprofessional, we wasn’t made aware to bring any other piece of clothing either. We was left in a room with no locker key, no robes or clear instructions what to do next. When Fianlly arriving into the steam room and sauna (main changing room) as we was benifiting from using these facilities everyone was coming in and using it as a drying room to dry their sweaty clothes from the gym. We wasn’t offered any water or refreshments after the treatments either.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommended place as I enjoyed my swim, sauna and steam. I m not big a guy who do weight lifting as gym equipment is more than enough for my need.
Positive experience: Great staff, somw equipment a little run down
Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym, great facilities, could do with more machines to save waiting times but makes up for it with amazing spa facilities and excellent fitness classes included in the membership!
Positive experience: I have used this location today for the first time, although I have enrolled with Bannatyne in another location several months back. I did sort of promise to leave a review of the pool and spa area, which were the premises I have visited and enjoyed very much overall, and that is why I would like to see aspects of it that I really value improved. On a positive note, I really liked that there was so much to choose from in the spa area, including the saunas and steam chambers in the ladies changing rooms. As for what I would like to see changed, that would be for starters, the addition of a lane for active swimming separated from the more recreational swimmers, which I am told never existed in this location, but exists in other Bannatyne gyms, and really helps with keeping to a straight line and avoiding collisions with other users of the swimming pool. In addition to this, when I used the jacuzzi, I could smell what seemed to be higher than the ideal amount of chlorine in the water, which caused my eyes to burn. This never happened to me on the other gym location, so hopefully the composition of the water can be rectified to stop this undesired effect, whilst remaining effectively disinfected.
Positive experience: Very nice gym and spa facilities however a lot of maintenance is required. I believe this place will be closing at the end of this year so they are not bothering to spend additional money on the current upkeep.
Positive experience: We went for our Spa day treat today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had 3 treatments which were expertly carried out by the girls . We used the sauna and pool afterwards . The foot and facial and back massage was really wonderful . Thanks to the staff , particularly Saleema for the experience . Happy to recommend
Negative experience: I arrived just 10 minutes late on my spa treatment today. As a result they knocked off this time which I don’t think was fair. The masseuse were brilliant though. No slippers, bathrobe or towels were provided they said I had to rent those items which was an inconvenience. After paying top money for a spa and beauty treatment day out I believe they should have provided complimentary drinks at least.
Positive experience: Spa area a little dated and needs some TLC. The treatments however were brilliant. Wouldn't hesitate to return for treatments.
Positive experience: Used to be great when Chepstow was open and the gym was mostly frequented by professionals split over 3 sites. Seems like they are targeting a lot of students now and it's often crowded and messy.
Positive experience: Bad Hygiene standards! a Real Shame as I just moved there cancelling Pure Gym and thought I was going up market a bit with a 'SPA'. They don't encourage anyone to use a Hand Towel to place on the equipment, and hardly ever see anyone wiping the kit after! WHY are the hygiene standards so Poor!? It really is quite Gross, wiping up pools of sweat before you can use the equipment and NOT helped by the ineffective Air-Con. I have put off going in the Spa area, just because of how dirty/unhygienic the Gym area is allowed to be. And the Staff (even after telling them numerous times) NEVER go in there and tell people - just DO IT A few times - YES both will be a bit embarrassed, but at least then people will change their Bad Habits (London Bannatynes don't have this problem!) SUGGESTION: regularly ask people when coming in, do they need a sweat towel, they they have to consciously say NO, or even but them - which should be on display to make a point. #GymManagement - get on it!
Negative experience: This is the worst gym in Manchester. The gym itself is rubbish but the actual gym goers are just bizarre. Dodgy lads asking customers if they've 'seen a phone' over and over again and harassing people in the spa. Staff useless. Don't join this gym unless you want to feel like you're going to get shanked at any second.
Negative experience: This is the worst spa I’ve ever been to, don’t waste your time. I saved a lot of money to get this for a friends 18th birthday and it has been really disappointing for the both of us. Parking in the multi-storey car park is very expensive (it’s the nearest parking to the spa). The receptionists are unbelievably rude and clearly did not want to interact with anyone. The pool is outdated and gross and there is no signage on any doors making it very hard to get around the place. We were 10 minutes late for our treatments due to traffic and no spaces in the multi-storey and so were denied 2 out of our 3 treatments when there was more than enough time for 2 at least. They also tried to charge us nearly £40 for two “spa bags” that consisted of a towel, a robe and some flimsy flip flops that we had to give back when done with. I would have brought my own towel if I’d have been told.
Negative experience: If you pay to come here prepare for a masterpiece in the art of wasting money. If you've ever dreamed of experiencing a "spa" that defies all logic, this is your golden ticket. Calling this place a spa is like calling a bike a spaceship – both equally misleading. You're paying £200 for the privilege of entering the Twilight Zone. Want a towel or robe? That'll be £8 each, plus a £20 deposit for your existential crisis starter pack. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by staff performing their rendition of "Arguing in the Workplace: The Musical." Then, meet our lovely staff guide who's taken "robotic" to a whole new level. Smiles, conversations, and eye contact sold separately. After navigating a maze of aged, musty changing rooms, you'll find yourself in the heart of the "spa" area. Prepare to be enchanted by an ambiance that rivals the grandeur of a dilapidated public pool – truly a next-level experience in relaxation. After a whopping ten minutes of this sidesplitting spectacle, I made a swift getaway to the Edwardian Hotel Spa nearby. It's the kind of place that makes you believe in sanity again. In conclusion, if you enjoy comedy of the tragic kind, this place is a must-visit. Aspiring business owners, take notes on what NOT to do. Kudos for setting new standards in "how not to spa”.
Negative experience: The gym has potential but there’s plenty to change. 1. It is very crowded from the start at 6am. 2. Not enough equipment especially the press benches. The stretch area is tiny. 3. filly locker room and showers. Often no soap. 4. Way too short opening hours. It should be at least 6am - 11pm Mo-Fr, and 7am to 9pm on the weekends. 5. Sauna is a joke. The temp around 60C. I understand the energy prices are high but maybe implementing shorter operational hours snd have it right with temps above 90C. 6. Also, I noticed people are not taking showers after sauna. They jump straight into the pool. What can change? I think the price is too low. I remember 8 years ago the price was exactly the same £32/month. I would double the price to at least £60-70 a month which would reduce the crowd and save on cleaning. The cleaning should be on higher standard, the locker room should have better ventilation (sometimes it stinks so badly). Opening hours extended to 11pm. Maybe some good coffee at waiting room.
Negative experience: Visited today for the first time since Covid. Sadly I think it's gone downhill - maintenance has been ignored and everywhere needs repainting. Some funny smells. And the pool was particularly cold.
Negative experience: Terrible service and very unclean. I don’t think they even changed their cloth on the massage bed. Not very friendly staff as well.
Fantastic experience: Great afternoon. Excellent massage. Good value for the money. The only negative is it is beginning to look a bit tired.
Negative experience: Booked a spa day here for today, about two months ago. Had a phone call this morning asking if we could arrive an hour earlier, no reason given but wasn’t the most polite on the phone. Arrived at the venue and the receptionist on the main desk was really friendly, (male, didn’t get his name) and he led us downstairs to the spa and said we would be waiting to be shown to the changing room. Two girls then arrived quite some time later, who asked us to take a seat, and we were left waiting for almost ten minutes. We were then led to the treatment room, which was nicely set up. When the treatments began, it was obvious the two girls were having a conversation, meaning it was a huge distraction. Back massage was fine, but my hair was fairly knotty and the lady doing the scalp massage was just pulling at my hair and rubbing her fingers across my scalp and it was painful! The foot massage was ok but mediocre. The treatments were poor because of the talking, and the wheeling around of the chairs. They also kept stopping the treatment when the conversation picked up. They then told us we could use the facilities, and hadn’t acknowledged we hadn’t been shown around, and had to ask. The pool was good, however off putting to some with the gym being in full view above. Had to wait for the jacuzzi as it was being cleaned, so this was ok. Used the relaxation room last and this was just an empty room with some music, as you could hear the PT shouting moves through the wall. Wouldn’t return, should be a gym or a spa. No facilities for water other than badly working fountains, no cafe or anywhere else to find a drink. Felt like a gym and should probably stay that way.
Positive experience: Loved when I was a member but they make it very hard for you to leave! Not great customer service unfortunately. But the hot tub was fab!
Negative experience: As we got there a woman was in tears telling us she had had the worst experience ever, was shown around the spa which I can only explain as it’s like something out of a horror movie. Atmosphere was extremely awkward, people watching you from the gym while you’re swimming, member of staff balling her eyes out in the changing room on the phone to people when there is signs everywhere saying no phones. Treatments were great but the experience it self wasn’t worth the money.
Fantastic experience: OK so I've checked this place out online as I'm looking to change my gym and go for state of the art technogym technology I like that they had add ons ie treatments as there is a spa hotel etc and discount for members so very tempted as I love my Thai treatments I googled directions as I needed to know if Bannatyne had their own car park and the distance I need to travel as I'm not very keen on town commute so let's see will ring up to see if there's a car park attached xx
Positive experience: Had a spa day today with my partner. The changing rooms were very clean and spacious, plenty of showers and lockers. We hired towels and robes. We both had treatments, I had a facial with Rebecca who was really nice and left my skin feeling amazing! The pool is a bit outdated compared to other spas but it is clean
Negative experience: The male locker room is filthy and poorly maintained. There is mould absolutely everywhere: shower heads, shower cabins, floors, swimming pool. Strings of spiders nets and dust hanging at every step. Swimming pool area is filthy as well, and I honestly do not understand people who come here for a spa experience. I will be changing this gym probably very soon.
Positive experience: Had a really good experience overall the staff are polite & helpful and the facilities are great the only downside to the place is there is no parking ...cost me £22 to park my car in the local NCP
Negative experience: My friend was member of this gym ,he give one month notice but the charge him extra money, gym is not very clean and member of staff not very polite. I don't recommend this gym to every one
Negative experience: I heard reports that the staff in this gym are very racist and I witnessed it first hand. I watched a customer ( a black woman) buy headphones from the front desk, she came back 5 mins later saying they were not working can they check and charge it. The man at the front desk ignored her first then said no. She then asked for a refund which he also tried to refuse but she stood her ground and eventually he was forced to help her because she was adamant. I went to work out 45 mins later I came back and she was still waiting for a refund. I bumped into her months later and found out she was banned from every Bannatyne in the U.K because of this incident. As a witness to a lot of it I can say this woman was treated so unfairly, its disgraceful that things like this can still happen.
Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. appalling I have been a member for over 10 years I left my rucksack in the locker last night and have gone back today and they have not only emptied it but I had to pay £10.00 to get my things back. My mum passed away last year and unfortunately I have my muns dog who can't be left due to my circumstances I will not be able to go to the gym very soon the response is appalling so unhelpful no consideration. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. Quay Street, Manchester.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities great staff very helpful
Positive experience: My partner booked a spa day for my birthday. We got a phone call morning of to say our spa treatments had been cancelled due to staff sickness but said we could come and use the spa facilities and rebook another day for treatments. But we got a phone call 8mins later saying they could do our treatments that day just at a later time. Which we did, so that was good we didn’t have to rebook. The spa itself was very relaxing, lots of candles, quiet and calming. The ladies in the spa room, were kind and friendly. Both me and my partner were allowed in same treatment room which helped with my anxiety. Both Elemis welcome touch facial and mini Swedish back and leg massage were thorough and relaxing, for someone who’s never been to the spa before, Id definitely visit this spa again, and the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were perfect for after our treatments, would fully recommend. Only thing I would change is the pool area and the front of the building needs some work to make it look a bit more modern, but the old stain window and the paintings in the pool area gives it a nice touch.
Negative experience: Honestly one of the poorest experiences I've had with a gym/spa. The only shining light in this place is the reception staff who seem genuinely lovely and want to help whenever you ring. I joined last year due to it's central location and pool area. Upon visiting, it transpired the pool area is really dated and looks like it hasn't had a good overhaul in a while. Whilst using the sauna and jacuzzi over multiple visits it became clear that the gym had turned down the heat on both as many were complaining about this and neither feeled particularly warm. This area was also shut down not long after I joined, and no offer of a discount on membership was sent out, which my previous gym made sure to do when facilities were out of action. To cap that, they then hiked the price of the membership the next month. A lot of the equipment is quite old and there were pieces that just had 'We're working on fixing this' signs on for several weeks when visiting. Classes such as the yoga I tired were nice enough but you had to be quick off the mark to get in, as due to the size of the class rooms there were few spaces available. The spa area was again shut down because tiles had fallen off and I was told they had hut someone. It then re-opened only to close again due to glass in the pool. Again, no discount or voucher. To top it off was the spa experience. Bought for me by my boyfriend in February, I expected to able to book in anytime between Monday - Friday up to 8pm as per the voucher. Instead, when trying to book, I was repeatedly met with the same option of 15.30/16.30 on the odd day here and there. I gave up in May and rang for a refund, only to be refused. I then emailed and went in to the gym, and was met with a very snooty blonde manager who proceeded to tell me I would have to squeeze it in and there would still be no refund despite the hugely limited options. Finally, I rang again to ask for a refund and I was told they had taken on another spa staff member and that there was different availability. And so I had the massage which was nice enough, but not enough to offset the several month long waiting time. The following week I get a call asking where I was and why I hadn't shown up to my appointment. When I explained I had the massage the week before they questioned why I had double-booked. I hadn't and told them so, and left it at that. Well before this point I'd decided to move to a new gym and cancelled my direct debit on 24/04/23. On May 9th, I received a call saying I needed to make that months payment to finish up the account. And I paid over the phone. And yet still, I am receiving calls and texts into June saying my account is in arrears and I need to make the final payment. Considering I haven't had a membership since late April, and only entered the gym in May once for a voucher booked massage, this is highly unlikely. A real disappointment all round. I wouldn't waste your £32 on this gym when there are plenty of other options within walking distance.
Negative experience: I’ve been to this spa many times and always enjoyed it however when I came back this time the girl who completed my treatments was shocking! The massage lasted around 10 minutes not working on any on my knots. I then had to sit there for half hour with a mask on my face whilst it sounded like she was on her phone. The scalp massage felt like a 3 year old was playing with my hair. Spoken to the manager and she said she would ring me but never heard back. Very disappointing wouldn’t recommend.
Fantastic experience: Just had a day pass. Great facilities wish I lived closer as membership would be great
Negative experience: I'm sorry to have to come to this, but after more than a month with the machine broken and without any change I have to write this review, I hope you really fix the problem, because what you pay in this gym is not little
Positive experience: First time there.staff lovely and helpful.enjoyed our treatments and use of all the facilities.will be going again.
Fantastic experience: Didn't use the pool but had lovely massage and facial done by Francesca. Will be back again
Negative experience: Very run down essentially a leisure centre with some treatment rooms. Only 4 sunbeds to sit on not a place to spend a day.
Negative experience: I don't like writing bad reviews but this Bannatynes is not the best. On my last visit there was a lot of rubbish on the locker room floor. The pool side had muddy foot prints and the occasional plaster. Just generally looks unclean. The pool is a really odd shape so when it's very busy, you end up swimming really short laps in human soup. The gym area gets extremely busy. It was hard to get your turn for the equipment and you had to really squeeze in for some mat time. 2 stars are for the reasonable priced membership and the nice reception staff
Positive experience: Great staff, but facilities could do with a refresh
Negative experience: Spa day really wasn’t great, the facility’s were ok but quite dirty and not well kept up with. It was the treatments that were bad, went into the room and the room wasn’t ready for me with a therapists phone hid under my towel on the bed, didn’t really ask many questions about the treatment and the massage was literally 10 minutes long rather than 30 and didn’t even work on my knots at all, did completely different movements on either side of my back and her necklace kept scraping on my back. facial wasn’t Elemis routine and missed out half the products which should be in the Elemis facial, Treatment room was right next to the reception and the staff were definitely not attempting to be quite. left really disappointed and like I still needed a massage
Fantastic experience: Really good gym. I miss being a member here. Only downside is one squat rack... Besides this, it has everything you need. Plenty of cardio machines. Heavy dumbbells. Spacious gym. Friendly members. Best part is free access to the pool, steam room and sauna. Very few gyms offer this at the price this one does. I made a lot of gains in this gym and achieved the best shape of my life here. There is a pure gym just around the corner. I would recommend this one. Enjoy!
Fantastic experience: Clean and amazing to workout in for all the things they offer the price is OK.
Negative experience: The manager's style was not excellent. I hope you see my topic
Positive experience: Excellent place to relax, unwind and keep fit nice staff at both venues
Negative experience: I cancelled my membership due to inadequate facilities and bad maintenance. The corridors leading to the changing room and the pool have a strong odour. The changing room itself lacks a functioning ventilation system, hence it is always humid and wet with still water on the floor that never evaporates. In the pool area people walk in their slippers without using a protective cover, which violates the rules. Just ask for a tour of the facilities before joining and figure out yourself.
Negative experience: I used to be a member at this gym up until 2016 but rejoined again recently and sadly it's gone down hill quite a lot. In the 6 weeks I've been back the spa area has been so dirty and rarely cleaned. Pools of mouldy water and plasters sitting in the same place for days isn't okay. I have seen the manager of the gym cleaning the spar area himself so somehting is wrong, the chap clearly needs support. As well as this, I presume as a cost cutting measure, the steam room has only been properly operational for 2 or 3 days between Christmas and New year which COINCIDENTALLY was when a regional / senior manager was on site doing an inspection. Normally the steam room is tepid with minimal steam. I'd complained in the past to staff to raise the temperature of the steam room but it's fallen on dead ears: Staff member number 1 said it was fine and then when I politely challenged this he said, he shouldn't be telling me but, I should put water on the thermostat at the back of the steam room. Staff member number 2 said Albas oil being used in the steam room was causing blockages (!!) I politely called bull5h1t and he said the manager had told staff to say this and the steam room had been turned down a few degrees. Today, staff member number 3 said he can't do anything, I should report it to the manager. Other gym members in the steam room at the time said nothing gets done when issues are reported to staff which is why I'm resorting to posting this feedback here and also raising it centrally as a complaint with Bannatynes. This isn't the only problem at this gym, staff do not challenge disrespectful members who sit shaving or exfoliating or EATING leaving pure filth in the steam room and sauna. When I've raised these things happening at the time nothing has been done. I was told in confidence that staff are on minimum wage and don't see they're paid enough to deal with any friction. This gym will be rid of its decent members if things are not fixed ASAP. I'm on the brink of leaving this gym as I know are other members. On a positive note, the manager is friendly and seems nice and the staff also are polite enough but the services and the gym itself isn't good.
Fantastic experience: 31 quid a month Absolutely value for money Top place Nice staff and always being cleaned round the clock.
Negative experience: Horrible gym , most of the machine don’t work, not worth the money , cancelled my membership but still got charged , horrible customer service , avoid avoid avoid
Negative experience: Booked a spa treatment 4 weeks in advance, as there was no prior availability. Treatment was cancelled the night before due to operational issues. Understandable, so tried to rebook. No more availability for the next 4 weeks. Called for refund 10 times in the next two weeks, each time being assured someone from the spa team would contact me to initiate my request. Two months on from my original booking, finally received my refund.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted , they are scamming people , I just went to the gym for once and they change me for one month and I cancelled my direct debit straight away within the first month but I got charged again and now they have increased it to £54 , I have emailed them that I wanted to cancel my membership and that I have also cancelled my direct debit , but they are ignoring me completely, scammers , avoid it
Fantastic experience: A pleasent gym where usually you will always find free weights or a machine to use, with a decent amount of fitness variety. The showers and changing room has improved, and the swimming pool and spa have been renovated to great effect. An enjoyable gym and one that had been my regular for a few years.
Fantastic experience: Bought this experience for my mum & dad for their birthday treat. They loved it, pleased with their experience and would go again and have a tip. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Visited for a spa, lovely big pool, sauna and steam room, spa lovely, nice massage and facial, didn't use the gym
Positive experience: Men's changing rooms need a good clean!
Negative experience: Gym closed without any notice to it's members! Not even bothered to send email Duncan? Horrific!
Positive experience: Visited for a spa day bought as a present. The treatment area and staff were lovely, and the head/back massage were very relaxing. But as this is a city centre location, its not quite the spa experience of one in the countryside. Gym and pool were also good and very clean. But I wouldn't recommend a gym session and treatment on the same day in this venue
Fantastic experience: I'm a member here and also disabled. Every member of staff I've met has been lovely. The facilities are fabulous and everywhere is kept immaculately clean. Got to mention Carly because she's the legend that helps me with my walker and she's beyond lovely!
Fantastic experience: My daughter and I had a head and body massage. It was superb. The receptionist was v helpful. I would highly recommend this health spa.
Fantastic experience: I went to the gym and pool a few times. The gym has many different machines, and the pool is well maintained. The changing rooms and showers (for women) were clean. No complains there. To be picky I wish the pool was deeper as it’s only 1.20m and you can’t really dive. I didn’t know that before signing up.
Negative experience: changing rooms are always filthy, spa & pool not much better, why I don't go anymore. staff don't seem to know how to clean... or care. so much broken and never gets fixed. complain to staff and you just get excuses. might go back if things change but I doubt it ! Needs to be open late at weekends as well as during the week.
Negative experience: Went today with a friend as a birthday present the treatments were lovely but the place itself swimming pool changing rooms and steam rooms ect we're dirty and in need of repairs my friend had her treatment at 12.30 mine was at 2 so sat waiting as did not want to use the dirty facilities also got charged for dressing gown and flip flops everywhere eles there free will not be going again and would not recommend got 2 stars cause treatment was verygood
Positive experience: Booked a spa day as a gift for my friends birthday. We had our treatments done by Holly and Naia (sorry if the spellings are wrong) They we’re extremely professional, attentive and friendly. The treatments we had were amazing! I’d recommend them to anyone! However, the pool was cold and there was black mould on the tiles! The whole pool area was quite poorly maintained and incredibly dated. The changing rooms were quite dingy and there was a lot of damp. Every member of staff were really accommodating and lovely, if this place was just given a little bit of an update and some TLC I’d be back every weekend.
Negative experience: You burn more calories while trying to cancel your subscription than you do actually exercising.
Positive experience: Went to have some spa treatments and it was great! Would definitely return.
Negative experience: Do not join this gym. The staff in Manchester are prejudice and treat you really badly and dismissive. Please get the extra tenner and join a gym where you are valued as a member.
Positive experience: Primarily joined for the pool, slightly disappointed. Pool is an unusual shape, but very nice to swim in… When you can. Unfortunately it’s always packed, I think largely because the spa guests are allowed in at all times, even if you go late at night or at lunch (my office is a 5 minute work, which is why I joined) it’s packed with people having fun and relaxing in the middle of the pool. I realise I sound v grumpy but it’s just frustrating when it’s like that every time you visit. It’s v rare to go at a time when you can do lengths without being interrupted for more than 10 minutes. I really wish they’d have times for just members or regulate how many people are in there. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely gym other than that! The gym itself is really great, definitely recommend that, has lots of equipment. If you just want the gym for an occasional swim, would recommend, but not if you’re joining primarily for the pool.
Fantastic experience: Relaxing spa day, brilliant treatment by Rebecca. Highly recommended.
Positive experience: Was part of a mum and daughter day. Booked the spa and 5 mini treatments each. No parking nearby Had to pay for towels and robe No choice of treatments, just a package, very disappointing. Pool a bit cold. Nice to have a sauna and steam room within changing areas if you didn't want to mix. Wouldn't go back
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym really amazing feeling when you done your workouts
Positive experience: Spa day was nice but place is dated and needs renovating, dissappinting when compared with the bannatyne health club in Burry st Edmunds
Positive experience: Great staff. Towels and robes are ratty, old, and had holes in them. Needs some refurbishments inside.
Negative experience: Have to cancel a month in advance, not highlighted when you join the gym with no joining fee. I feel misled as that breaks ASA advertising standards. I plan on filing a report to the ASA if they don’t cancel the DD. I strongly encourage other people to do this as well. Update: I have gotten back my money after complaining to the ASA.
Fantastic experience: Massive thanks to Jordy on reception, who completed sorted out a two week back-and-forth I was experiencing over a stolen towel in about 5 minutes. Besides that one incident, Quay Street is a lovely gym with a great pool, and it's staff like Jordy that make all the difference.
Positive experience: Upon signing up, the receptionist was quite unwelcoming, and rude. Didn't explain much about how the gym works or anything as such really. Other than that the gym is fairly small, but wonderful swimming pool facilities..
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy being a member of Bannatynes and feel like £30pm is a bargain for the facilities you get. The only downside is how busy it can get at times but I guess this can't be helped.
Negative experience: Old, outdated facilities. Pool area, jacuzzi and changing room are always dirty and have a terrible smell. I have brought up these issues to the management , but the manager in charge on the day (Andreas) was pretty aggressive and threatened to cancel my membership as that’s the best they can do. AVOID.
Negative experience: The worst gym and health club in the UK. The staff are so rude and force customers to give money to them. It’s totally the fraud and never recommend to everyone!
Positive experience: I really enjoyed my spa experience here with my sister. The head massage was amazing and my skin feels out of this world after my facial ! Would definitely recommend
Fantastic experience: Had the most amazing day here. It was a spa day treat. We used the gym, pool and ended with fantastic treatments. Definitely go again
Positive experience: Really relaxing however men's changing rooms need a deep clean.
Positive experience: Nice space and clean facilities. I do like the variety on the equipment too
Negative experience: Had a spa day booked for 4 months and they cancelled 5 hours before which was very disappointing. No compensation offered just that they could rebook us in 3 months!
Negative experience: About the gym itself I don’t have much to say it’s good , the permits are decent for what you pay and the staff is nice . NOW WHATS ANNOYING, is I’ve cancelled my direct debit one day after paying my monthly membership. I said to myself “ I will pay it go this month and then not come anymore “ be aware that I could cancel before paying again . And you guys keep insisting that I need to pay another month as notice of my leaving?? Also they didn’t let me use the gym for the month I’ve paid just because my direct debit wasn’t active . Be aware that I’ve paid it regardless of having direct debit or no I’ve paid that month and wasn’t allowed to use the gym . For that reason I’m not coming back or paying anything else . You don’t let me use the facilities on a month I’ve paid without activating a direct debit again but now you want money for my last month ???
Positive experience: Really nice spa day, my only gripe would be there wasn't enough water stations where you could get a cup of water. If I had known would have taken a water bottle with me.
Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the spa and my first facial was interesting. My wife informed me that it was a good one though. Staff were awesome.
Fantastic experience: I booked a spa day for my sisters hendo and only after paying, did I read the reviews.....I was seriously worried Well I shouldn't have been. Everywhere was clean, it wasnt as dated as other reviews made out. The jacuzzi was lovely and warm, the pool area well lit. Everyone was lovely and professional and very welcoming. The treatments were amazing and the staff were very informative of what products they used and why. Overall we had a lovely day and id defo come back. Dont let the bad reviews put you off as it was nothing like they said
